Finally got him after refusing to get him early and regretting to do so because I couldn't find him for 3 months.

Overall he's a well made toy. A bit too much black though as all of his details get kinda washed out unless you keep your Ironhide under bright lights. He could have benefited from some silver paint here and there.

I used one of the methods on this thread to keep his back and doors together nice and tight. Now his chest doesn't stay in the extreme "V" shape any more and no longer flops around. (why is this not included in the instructions?)

I probably won't transform him too much as I like keeping my figs in bot mode and plus Ironhide kicks @$$ with his double barrel arm cannons.

Great figure and the last to complete my autobot 5 and probably one of the best lookin movie figs I own'

wavelength Avatar

got primes big stick today. i am so glad that i decided not to get that voyager megatron in toymaster and went to argos on a whim instead.

truck- s'okay, but it seems a bit elongated, but that is gm's fault not ironhides. doesn't look particularly great with or without the cannons. he looks to thin without the cannons and only the missile gun looks gun as a tank, and even themn you have to subspace the missiles.

bot- well he looks better with guns, so it is truck with guns then. i have actually put one of the dcon symbols intended for mp starscreams wing on his left front door. the waist fits fine with mine, and he is a nice robot, though his boots are kind of funky. at least it is easy to click the heels down into a better position. though i do not like how the chestplate does not lock or even rest anywhere near his head.

overall- yeah i likes him. unless it decide to get tc and leader brawl (and if i can find them at reatail, yeah right) i only have cheaper figs to get on my list. get him.

SPLIT LIP Avatar

Just got him today. I'm very impressed.

I tried Shin Densetsu's door method, and it popped out a couple of times but is fine now. The detail is amazing and I love the colours. Vehicle mode it top notch too.

One of the truck halves on his shoulder is loose, so is the door hinge.

QuinJester Avatar

No. His hips are designed to combine so that they lock flush at the base but at a ~10-15 degree angle at the upper torso, much like barricade. It's just how the toy is made.

NGW Avatar

Lord Of Tetris

I've had it since early June, and I'm still wondering…

Is there any way to "fully" collapse his waist? Right now his upper chest is sort of leaning forwards…maybe 10 degrees. It's not much, and I don't see how his waist could lock any more securely…Have I been mistransforming him all this time?

MnemonicSyntax Avatar

MnemonicSyntax

My sister picked up Ironhide for me the other day, and the joint that allows the bumper to fold down apparently broke, making so where the two halfs don't stay together at all, so when I spin the top around the 180 degrees to either mode, the circular part splits open, as there is already a split down the middle anyway. The split also doesn't allow the peg to stay into the hole firmly in robot mode, and it just flops backwards instead of locking it into place.

Anyone else have this issue, or heard of it? I'd take photos, but my sister took him back home with her so she can return him to the store for a second Ironhide.

I don't think I broke it, but if I did, that seems kind of shoddy in regards to the plastic not holding up well during transformation.

nYcet824 Avatar

wow nice review and thanks for putting the transformation sequence even tough its kinda hard to tell but other then that, great review and awesome figure!

Katamari Prime Avatar

Katamari Prime

An impressive figure, if a tad hard to get to stand up at first. useful auto morph feature makes this a standout, and in certain lighting and posing, you get the sense form the profile that he is as old as the profile says.

a person Avatar

He is mine now but I am let down, he just gets so boring after you transform him a couple of times 7/10.

Drew Avatar

One slight thing i noticed, or at least wished, is that if you look inside the shoulder swivels, right below the vehicle hood, is a screw that appears to serve no purpose other than holding one side of the pin that holds the spring and teal joint together. I really wish that this was able to twist, so that the grill sections actually faced inward more, basically so that wheelwells were more visible from the front of Ironhide's torso. Something about the extra hinge on the doors makes me wish it were so, because this bad boy would look even more movie appropriate if those shoulders were not only able to act as armor, but twist in a bit and look exactly like the film variant.

jokerswild Avatar

got any pix?

Shin Densetsu Avatar

Shin Densetsu

Guys, after reading through the numerous pages in this thread on how to secure the doors in robot mode, I figured out another VERY SIMPLE way to do it that happens to be very SECURE too!

First transform him into robot mode. Do NOT FOLD the doors yet . Now look at the bottom of the folding back doors. There are pegs there. The bottom ones are the ones that you should be paying attention to. Look at the windshield. Now, fold the doors just a bit more than 90 degrees, making sure the pegs are beneath the top part of the windshield.

VOILA! One of the back hinge frames, and the windshield secure the doors to the back, making it hard to pop out of place. The tension of the springs aid in this, and Ironhide retains a 'v' chest, as well as better range of vision.

It looks great, has yet to pop out of position and once you do this, seriously it does not feel like it will pop out unintentionally. Aesthetically and structurally pleasing. Hope this helps everyone!

jokerswild Not a bad figure at all i only have a few gripes with him mainly the head has the light piping back end but the eyes are filled in with black plastic so the light piping is USELESS

Actually, they're straight light-piping, all the way through. It's just that since they're cast in that smokey dark blue plastic, they hardly let any light through at all. I have to shine a super-white LED behind it to make it glow even noticeably.

Not a bad figure at all i only have a few gripes with him mainly the head has the light piping back end but the eyes are filled in with black plastic so the light piping is USELESS and the other is if you look at him on a level pose his head is covered by the chest centerpiece… other than that great figure… still think ratchet owns him but i love this fig

Drake Avatar

Picked up Ironhide today. He's pretty awsome. Only problem I have is the legs are a little loose. Last one Target had left.

Sol Fury Avatar

SPLIT LIP What's the repaint version look like?

Far as I know, he's the only one of the first four Voyagers who doesn't have a repaint in the pipeline yet. Certainly nothing was shown at Botcon, either on the futures panel, at the Hasbro booth or on the tour (where we saw Evac for the first time)

Roanstalker I meant that the head seems a bit hard to get out unless you push you thumb under it and push it up. Is that what your supposed to do?

When you fold the windshield down onto his back, it levers his head out somewhat, enough that you can get a good hold of it without difficulty.

Roanstalker Avatar

Roanstalker

Ah got it. Thanks.

LightningZERO I guess it's up to everyone's preference Does Ironhide have a repaint version?

What's the repaint version look like?

Product information

Product description.

With the war finally over, IRONHIDE is free to return to the simple, easy life he knew before. Captain Lennox has been kind enough to lend him some space in his barn to store the crates containing his weapon collection, and S7 has been more than happy to indulge him in experimental weaponry. Lennox and IRONHIDE spend their weekends in the most remote places they can get to, blasting boulders and small hills into atoms, and trading war stories. He watches over Lennoxs family while the human soldier is away on duty, and in return, Lennox keeps the old AUTOBOT warrior in perfect condition.

Ironhide (Voyager-class)

Ironhide (Voyager-class)

Review by EVA_Unit_4A

The Autobots have been searching long and hard for the AllSpark Cube since their leader, Optimus Prime, desperately cast it into space to prevent Megatron from getting his metallic claws on it and bringing a new order of domination and suffering to the already-demolished planet of Cybertron. Before then, both Autobots and Decepticons waged a long war against each other for possession of the Cube. Ironhide quickly rose through the ranks over the millennia to become one of Prime’s best warriors; eventually rising to become one of his senior officers as weapons specialist. Honed by his experience from the loss of friends and colleagues over time, he developed a shield of caution and awareness about him that would lead to a path of distrust and caution about the smallest things on the battlefield- where sneak attacks were the norm in a civilization that constantly shifted its physical appearance. Yet Ironhide remained ever-loyally by Prime’s side when a signal was received from a distant planet by one of their scouts that a clue had been found to the location of the Cube. Hard-landing on the planet (Earth), he narrowly escaped detection from a small family of intelligent natives and quickly assumed the appearance of one of their all-terrain vehicles- a black GMC TopKick pickup truck. He would find many oddities on this new world that would test his trigger fingers- including the primitive, aggressive, & undisciplined nature of humans. But later on, he would once more prove how skilled and powerful he was against the Decepticons- this time, in the defense of humans, in the Mission City battle. Ironhide stands 26’ (8.7m) tall in his upright robot mode, and is armed with two large cannons- one covering each of his forearms. He also has a set of micro-missile launchers embedded in his knuckles. For his trip to Earth, he studied many of its languages through a planet-wide information network, and so he is fluent in English. Ironhide’s voice (as well as that of Decepticon Barricade) is performed by the well-respected & experienced voice-actor Jess Harnell .

Ironhide (Voyager-class)

Ironhide’s vehicle mode (back) is that of a real medium-sized GMC TopKick ™ C4500 4x4 pickup truck, designed by General Motors Corporation ™ and manufactured by Monroe Truck Equipment ™ (aka MTE). Though slightly less well-known than the Daimler-Chrysler Dodge Ram™, the TopKick is a versatile and powerful vehicle design that is able to be adapted to many different roles- some examples I’ve read state commercial-grade pickup trucks, medium cargo trucks, and tow trucks. For its appearance in “Transformers”, several small modifications were made to the prop vehicle(s) used for Ironhide’s disguised form, specifically:

  • customized 20” aluminum black-painted wheels to fit new 40” tires
  • removal of a pair of the back wheels (giving the truck four wheels instead of the standard six)
  • new extended-height chrome smokestacks behind the cab
  • horizontal stainless steel step tubes
  • customized front & rear bumpers with powder-coat texture
  • a powerful 16,000lbs winch on the front bumper
  • Road Armor ™ reinforced front and rear bumpers installed
  • raised Autobot symbol on the tailgate

(What the hell did I just write-!? I have absolutely no clue what most of that means! I’m no truck expert! ) In anticipation of the marketing scramble surrounding the release of the first live-action film featuring the legendary Transformers, MTE announced that they would be producing a limited-run line of GMC TopKick 4500s specifically customized to look just like Ironhide’s vehicle form from the movie! (Here- read the small article for yourself.)

Autobot Ironhide- vehicle mode (front)

This Voyager-class toy of Ironhide also differs slightly from the real vehicle in several ways:

  • The tall, vertical side-view mirrors on the doors were condensed down to smaller PVC square shapes; most likely because they might catch on things like hair, clothes, etc. and break off.
  • The extended smokestacks directly against the back of the cab were cut down to just the height of the roof (*whew!* More on this later... )
  • Instead of those... “horizontal stainless steel step tubes”(?)... that you stand on to get into the cab beneath the four doors, Ironhide’s large metallic-blue arm cannons hang there instead, looking like giant cylindrical gas tanks like you might find on a semi-truck… like Optimus Prime ! However, removing them reveals the small arms hidden underneath, though they look more like they're part of the suspension system for the forward wheels or part of the transmission. From all angles, this is the largest break in the illusion for the vehicle mode. ( Well… except when you flip him over, that is! )

But other than that, this is a spot-on match to the real TopKick- shortened, wide nose with molded Road Armor ™-branded bumper, large 4-door cab with semi-transparent blue-tinted windows, and equally-sized truck bed with top cover! As mentioned above, if you look at the tailgate door in back (which does not open), you can see the Autobot symbol molded in between those gears! All four free-turning ABS wheels are not marked but do have appropriately-detailed tire tread & rim patterns. Also the red GMC trademark is molded on the front grille, and the “4 x 4” trademark symbol is stamped just under the smokestacks on either side. Oddly, the headlights are also that matching semi-trans. blue, but they’ve been painted over with silver. Curious... Also, the five cab lights on the roof were painted blue to match the ones on the real vehicle seen in the movie.

‘Automorph Technology’ is a new special feature that is fairly exclusive to the 2007 movie figures. What Automorph does is when one specific section moves, there is an internal system of gears and levers which moves another part in the same region. ( Although, I’m sure a similar function has presented itself in the other lines from the various anime -inspired series. I do know for certain that the huge “ Transformers Galaxy Force ” Primus figure had such function(s) in his back armor, leg weapon units, and chest/head. ) In the Voyager-class Ironhide, there are two Automorph functions:

  • The nose/door sections are spring-loaded just under the front bumper; when separating them to expose the head, they spring open and just hang there. ( I have doubts that this is an Automorph feature, but I’ll mention it anyways just in case... )
  • When flipping the two halves of Ironhide’s feet out (themselves connected by gears to each other), a panel on the front of his legs (the cover of the truck bed) slides down and sideways. At the same time, triangular pieces behind the legs/under the truck bed slide downwards, which causes the spring-loaded rear wheels to shift diagonally up and back.

Autobot Ironhide- robot mode (front)

Ironhide’s robot mode (back) is covered in sharp corners, intricate detail, and power covered in a lot of black. This is a drastic and significant change in style and function from the usually solid, blocky appearance of the Transformers since their debut in 1986. And yet, some of the TopKick’s features are still visible- such as the halved nose and front doors which rest lightly in the chest/over the shoulders, the top of the cab on his back (which hides the windshield and rear window), and the rear wheels and sides of the truck bed on the back/outside of his lower legs. Having the vehicle mode’s hood/front-half featured prominently on the upper torso is a signature design dating all the way back to the G1 Autobots from 1984 who all had this; though some Autobots over the decades have broken away from this. However, all of the Autobots seen in the 2007 film are no different and share this tradition with their predecessors. Ironhide’s head looks like its lacking color- with small highlights of gold- but this is because his eyes aren’t all that bright. They used that same muted transparent-blue plastic on the back of his head so that- when light shown through- his eyes would light up. However, the color of the plastic prevents anything from showing, so they end up just blending into the surrounding black ABS. ( I can’t even get a clear picture of his eyes glowing; they’re so dark! ) Bummer, that. If they’d only gone with a lighter shade of blue… Some physically-distinguishing details, however- like his blended horns and wide, rounded nose- carry through; evoking the image of a bull’s head!

Any pictures taken of him make him look extremely complicated; I know- I was equally intimidated before I first changed him too! But this is the testament to the awesome work Hasbro did in designing this Voyager-class toy. His legs demonstrate this quite well. The colors used on Ironhide- specifically, well... black- help distort what moves and what doesn’t, such as separation lines between parts. Most of that is surface detail, not movable parts. Trust me. Because of the complexity of the CGI character seen in the movie, some details had to be sacrificed. Specifically, the three toes on each foot have been molded into a single piece on each, but the sculpting shows that the toes are still there. ( I haven’t gotten a clear image of the back of his feet, so I can’t confirm how accurate they are from the film... ) Indeed, one of the fairly major details also lost is his overall body shape- in the film, he is actually slightly shorter than fellow Autobot Ratchet- featuring a bulkier, wider upper torso & arms with an overall muscled body shape. Here, that has been cast aside with smallish arms and an average-sized torso, but it isn’t a problem in the slightest as far as function goes. Ironhide is fairly flexible with a wide range of motion in the shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees; with limited range of motion in the head and wrists. Snap joints are present only in the shoulders (one axis), and hips (one). His feet aren’t designed with posing in mind even though they do flex when transforming him; if you tried to move them for posing, the Automorph feature would suddenly kick into reverse. The truck nose/doors hovering over his shoulders do flex a little with the springs in them, but I’ll get to that later on...

Autobot Ironhide- robot mode (cannons detail)

During the film, Ironhide seems to really love those big cannons attached to his arms, deploying them at the slightest irritation with his trigger-happy attitude- even willing to wipe-out Sam’s pet Chihuahua (which Ironhide called “…a rodent infestation!”) when it marked him! But, he is also proud of his weapons- upon first meeting Sam and Mikaela Banes ( the “right girl” I mentioned earlier ), he whipped them out and pointed them right in their faces, “You feelin’ lucky, punk ?” “ Easy , Ironhide…” warned Optimus Prime. “Just kidding! I just wanted to show him my cannons.”

Autobot Ironhide- robot mode (right cannon detail)

Talk about “ arm -aments”, eh!? Eh? No? Well, howsabout "sidearms"? (* crickets chirping *) Oh, come on - that second one was funny ! Ch-- whatever… In the film, there are no real hand-held weapons- most of them seem to unfold out from the forearms to replace the hands. But I think that Ironhide’s cannons unfold out from somewhere above his arms in his bulky shoulders, and then attach themselves to his forearms. According to the special-effects company Industrial Light and Magic , each of Ironhide’s cannons had more than the much-publicized 10,000 parts that the robots themselves had! ( I read from one individual that they reminded him of exposed jet engines… which I completely agree with! ) Alas, there are not such a dramatic number of parts in the paired cannons on Ironhide’s arms. They do not extend, they do not collapse in on themselves, they do not spin on their arm attachment joints, and they most-certainly do not glow! The right cannon is indeed differently sculpted from the left cannon, but both are simplified versions of the weapons seen on-screen. The right has four free-sliding black switches around its circumference, and four narrow barrels at its end that are not present in the film version. The left is similar in general appearance, but differs in function because it contains four long ABS missiles running the length of it. There isn’t any way to fire them...

Autobot Ironhide- robot mode (cannons merged, detail)

...unless you take the left cannon off of Ironhide’s arm, and attach it to the right cannon! This doesn’t happen in the movie (one shoots energy blasts, the other one shoots big cannon rounds), but it does make for an interesting ‘safety device’ that I haven’t seen before- preventing the missiles from accidentally firing. ( C’mon- we’ve all done that at some time or other, right...? ) A latch on the left section holds the two together, though I find fitting them together the greater challenge. Now, when each black switch on the right weapon is slid forward, the associated missile in the front (left) section fires! These are pressure-released missile as opposed to spring-loaded, so how far they go depends on how much you push on the trigger. ( This a growing trend in scaled toy weapons across the US; as it is both cheaper and safer this way as opposed to depending on ‘uncontrollable’ spring-loaded designs. ) Sweetness… Though molded into his fists (and painted in pictures on the box art), the micro-missiles in his knuckles do not fire. A cool place to put them, but understandable why they did this- you’d loose them sooooooo easily...!

While Hasbro can certainly be credited with the enormous task of transforming the immensely-complex CGI characters used in the 2007 movie (which- on average- contained 10,000 components per robot ), it should be noted that these are not just straight transitions either. While Ironhide’s head, arms, and legs all hide in roughly the same places in the toy, the process by which he transforms is different, resulting in a slightly different look from his CGI counterpart. Though extremely simplified compared to the movie versions’, the only break in the two cannons is either the four barrels in the right, and the four missiles in the left. (The far-simpler Fast Action Battlers Ironhide series’ figure features a single spring-launching missile which fires from only the left cannon.) How the cab nose mounts to his chest is also different; the two halves actually attach directly to Ironhide’s shoulders in the film. However I should point out that, so-far as I can tell, the Voyager-class Ironhide seems to be the closest to his on-screen counterpart as far as how he changes and what his robot mode looks like compared to the others in the Voyager-class - Autobot Ratchet , and Decepticons Blackout and Starscream . There is one thing about my specific toy that I should mention. There is a minor manufacturing flaw in the waist joint that prevents the upper and lower torsos from snapping together correctly. The plastic warped a bit, and the hole into which the blue tab is supposed to snap into was made incomplete. So whenever I pick Ironhide up, he flops over at the waist! ( I haven’t heard anyone else experience this, so it may just be me. I’ve tried to get a replacement through an exchange, but I’ve gotten no response from Hasbro on this matter. )

What the Instructions * Don’t * Tell You

[ fanfare sounds ]

The Voyager-class Ironhide set, unfortunately, has five marks in this frustrating category:

  • As part of his Automorph feature(s) in the legs, his feet are geared together internally, and move at the same time that the wheels and truck bed cover do. However, what the instructions don’t tell you is that when you’re changing him, you have to move them at the same time yourself or else the small teeth on the gears will skip, and they will become unsynchronized! Do this too much and eventually the gears will become stripped! What you need to do is pull down equally on both halves at the same time, though you can/should put a little more pressure on his foot section rather than the heel section.
  • What happens to the roof, windshield, and rear window after he’s changed? The instructions give no answer to this, and you are expected to just leave them hanging off the back. Each of those three sections has arms with joints, so they must do something ! I had to guess at what needed to be done, and find examples of what others have done online. And there’s no proper answer in the movie since [they] change differently! All I can suggest is: 1) slide the roof up-and-away from the windshield as much as possible 2) slip the rear window (smokestacks pointing downwards ) inside against the front bumper/parallel to the windshield 3) carefully slide the roof back down over it. Nothing will lock in place, and the roof will jut out a bit diagonally away from the body. Also, if forced, the windshield is designed to pop-off. (I have e-mailed Hasbro regarding this, but received no answer even three weeks later.)
  • The very first step mentioned in the instructions (and rightly so!) is to flip down that forward bumper. But beware-! If you just think it flips down unchallenged, don't force it! The bumper actually fits over two pegs in the top of the nose section... very tightly. This is a wiggle game you have to play with the bumper and nose sections- gently lift the two sections at the same time that you pull down on the bumper. (it may be of use to undo the back doors first to that the nose section can wiggle around a little more, and not break when it suddenly comes apart.)
  • These truck nose/shoulder guards sections are really the most baffling and- sometimes- frustrating! In the film, on the box art, and even in the instructions, Ironhide’s shoulder guards are shown as positioned horizontally directly over his arms. Now, because (in the movie) they are mounted onto his arms, when he moves his arms they move as well. As mentioned above, this is not the case with this toy, as they are attached via small blue arms w/ springs just behind the truck grill. But this makes no sense at all for the toy! If positioned horizontally, they interfere with how you position the arms! First of all, in order to position them horizontally, keep pulling out/down on the nose section until they snap into place. You still swing the back doors around like normal for this. But, I have seen many examples online of collectors leaving the shoulder units diagonally hanging in the air without snapping them in place. (They can’t snap into place diagonally anyways; it’s impossible.) Initially I posed him with them horizontally, but after seeing the images online and remembering what I had seen in the theater, I switched to the diagonal version. The Fast Action Battlers version (mentioned above) would seem to confirm the diagonal positioning, even though it’s design is significantly simplified from the Voyager-class toy.
  • ‘Anomaly #5’ ( heh ) is dependant on ‘#4’ above. If the shoulder guards are placed diagonally, then there isn’t really an issue. However, if the shoulders are placed horizontally as indicated on-screen and on box art, then there’s a problem. The pointed central chest guard (painted metallic blue) folds up after the torso has been twisted around, and then a black panel folds up to cover the space between the chest and head. But, if the shoulder panels are to be placed horizontally, the thin panel just hangs in mid-air like that, prone to drooping over time with gravity or if you accidentally press down on it. The chest guard itself also does not snap or lock into place. Nothing can be done about it that I can find, but it is really annoying.

But the instructions don’t tell you any of this...

CGI character- Ironhide

I was one of the people who liked this new style for the Cybertronians’; it was something different and unique from the ‘simplified’ blocky armor of the past, and gave them a very organic, non-human-designed feel. They reminded of what an artists’ interpretation of a Transformer might look like instead. Has anyone here seen futurist Syd Mead ’s work on the anime series “ Mobile Suit Turn-A Gundam ”? There’s a good example right there of a controversial-yet-different interpretation of a popular brand! About a year before “ Transformers ” came out, I got a sneak-peek at a leaked prototype image of [what would come to be known as] Ironhide before I instructed myself to avoid all future spoilers until I had seen it. (A year of hell, to be sure!) I knew then that these toys would be special. And they are, for the most part. A lot of people say that this movie was made strictly for the sake of selling toys (or in director Michael Bay’s case, promoting [or kissing-up to] the US military). That’s a hell of an expensive advertisement, don’t ‘cha think!? I never looked at it that way, nor do I look at the toys as made cater to the promotion of brands like GMC, Hummer, Xbox, or even Mountain Dew. These are things that we see in everyday life. What better place for a robot to hide than in plain sight!? That’s the whole point of Transformers - that you can’t immediately recognize them! Do you really think that futuristic [or even alien] robots who can change shape are going to expose themselves- even to their enemies- by dressing up as a light blue-and-yellow sports car?! No! Ya know what? Just go out and get the Voyager-class Autobot Ironhide- he’s great!

Ironhide doesn't always see eye to eye with Optimus, despite their friendship. He's perhaps the more practical of the two, and a little more trigger happy, so he can be more willing to push the Autobot code to the limit if he thinks it will get the job done faster.

He has more weapons than a smaller third-world country , and he may or may not have blown up a planet with said weapons. His various weapons systems range from machine guns to Gatling missile launchers to his trusty cannons. He has also given other Autobots weapon systems.

Defiance prequel comic [ ].

Before the war, Ironhide served as a Captain in the Cybertronian Defense Forces. In this role he seemed to serve a post between Lord Protector Megatron and Commander Starscream (see notes). He attended planetary security meetings and led ground troops against an invading alien species, but generally was uninvolved with rise of Optimus Prime and the betrayal of Megatron. Defiance issue 1 But hearing Megatron speak of conquest at the tower in Trypticon he couldn't reconcile these words with his own conscience. Defiance issue 3

He began to wander, looking for answers, and in his muddled state ended up inside the Autobots' defense perimeter under the guns of his own former troops. He convinced them of his peaceful intent and petitioned to join Optimus' group to defend the innocent. When the Nemesis began to take shape, Ironhide was the one who suggested refitting an older transport craft instead of spending the extra time to build a new ship from scratch. Defiance issue 4

During the war, Ironhide ran training missions for the younger Autobot recruits. These missions would often have the recruits thrown into the sharp end: one, involving Signal Flare , Strongarm and Skyblast , abruptly turned into a raid on a Decepticon base and rescuing a prisoner. He also developed skills at resisting psychic interrogation techniques. Transformers Comic issue 5

He would later be one of three Autobots who tried to prevent Megatron from reaching the All Spark . They hadn't, however, expected for Brawl to be demented enough to set off a foldspace warhead at pointblank range - a weapon that warped everyone to different parts of the galaxy. Transformers Comic issue 2

After spending some time planet-hopping, Ironhide detected Ratchet 's homing signal and headed for it. En route, he was captured by an alien spacecraft, one that appeared to belong to immense entities that created the All Spark and wanted it back. Ironhide, shrugging off a psychic probe, worked out these entities were an illusion - the ship was a derelict that had been salvaged by a group of aquatic aliens who wanted to find & exploit the All Spark. Ironhide removed their ability to do so by taking the derelict's device that tracked down All Spark energy. While he then went on his way, he was left wondering what race had originally owned this vessel and what their connection to the All Spark was... Transformers Comic issue 5

After meeting up with Ratchet, the two began searching for Jazz. They found he was the prisoner of a living, predatory planet; Ironhide reasoned with the planet to let their friend go (i.e. shot it repeatedly with his slag-off great cannon) and they took him back to Cybertron with them. Following the Mission City battle, he worked with a US Special Forces team to track down Scorponok . The Decepticon led them into a trap and took control of Ironhide's motor functions, causing him to attack the humans. They attempted to fight back - oh, you know those sabot rounds that are supposed to harm Transformers? They had no effect. Luckily, one of the soldiers was able to sever Scorponok's connection before he killed them all, and Ironhide killed the Decepticon the old-fashioned way; brutally. Transformers Comic issue 8

But he made up for it by keeping the Decepticons distracted while Ratchet finally took out the All Spark. Transformers Comic issue 13

He was stationed near a refugee shelter in Savannah following the liberation of America. When Decepticons attacked the shelter, a position with no strategic value, Ironhide suspected it was a trap—which it was, an attempt to keep the Autobots in a position where a manipulated NATO could kill them all. Transformers Comic issue 14 Ironhide showed annoyance that the humans couldn't see the Autobots were just trying to help, and he replied with a curt "fine" when he was ordered not to return fire on any human tanks. Movie-littlegirl&ironhide-film-pool

He's a different kind of tooth fairy. He's the one that knocks your teeth out so the other one can pay you for them

Responding to Bumblebee 's call for assistance, Ironhide and the other Autobots under Optimus Prime's direct command came to Earth, with the old soldier landing in a suburban pool. As he climbed out of the water, a little human girl asked him if he was the tooth fairy before he quickly hid behind some trees when the child's parents exited the house. He scanned their GMC Topkick truck and transformed, leaving the residence. He linked up with Jazz and Ratchet , and they proceeded to the rendezvous point, where they met up with Optimus and Bumblebee. After meeting Sam Witwicky and Mikaela Banes , Ironhide displayed an eagerness to show off his cannons , and made a classic Clint Eastwood impression to show it by saying "You feeling lucky, punk?" (which earned him an instant reproof from Optimus).

Movie Ironhide introduction

Ironhide introducing himself to Sam

Going to the Witwicky residence, Ironhide had some gross liquid released upon him by a "rodent" (actually Sam's chihuahua) named Mojo . Ironhide said "He's leaked lubricants all over my foot!" Then Sam said "He peed on you? Bad Mojo! BAD Mojo!" Ironhide then said "Yeah, BAD Mojo!" as he aimed his blasters at the dog. This unpleasant situation was made worse by Sam Witwicky 's frantic refusal to shoot it. Ironhide relented, despite the fact that it could've caused rust. He also suggested terminating the parents , as they were interfering with Sam's search for Captain Witwicky 's glasses . Ironhide says "The parents are very irritating." While Ratchet said "Yeah, yeah, yeah." Ironhide then said "Can I take them out?" Optimus reminded him that they didn't harm humans, what was with him, and scolded his weapons expert, to which Ironhide meekly responded "Well, I'm just saying that we could, it's an option."

Movie Ironhide threatens Mojo

Ironhide threatens Mojo.

After Sam, Mikaela and his parents were captured by Sector Seven , Ironhide got a real good chance to show off his cannons when he and the other Autobots totally outclassed the S7 agents by instantly disarming them of their weapons, then rescuing the boy and his girl. Unfortunately, their escape was to be short-lived, as Bumblebee was captured by the mysterious agents after saving Sam and Mikaela's lives. The next morning, when Optimus Prime was pondering their next move, Ironhide asked why they had to save the humans, prompting Prime to go into one of his long speeches about freedom and sacrifice, concluding that the humans need not pay for the mistakes of Cybertron-kind, and if need be, he would destroy the All Spark by fusing it with his own spark. Inspired by his words, Ironhide debated no further, and the Autobots set out for the location of the All Spark, Hoover Dam . Halfway there, to their surprise, they saw Bumblebee leading a convoy of Sector Seven assault vehicles, so Ironhide and the rest of the Autobots joined the unit.

Ironhide using his guns to propel himself

During the final battle at Mission City , Ironhide realized that the F-22 Raptor that appeared to be providing Captain Lennox's troops with air cover was in fact Starscream . Ordering the others to take cover, Ironhide and Bumblebee lifted a discarded truck full of Furby toys to protect the humans against Starscream's strafing run. It worked, but the explosion threw Ironhide back and crippled Bumblebee. Soon afterwards, Devastator attacked, forcing Ironhide to do several somersaults to avoid the Decepticon's missiles, thus totally scaring the crap out of a lady sitting in the middle of the street.

Ironhide towards the end of the movie

Ironhide and Ratchet took it upon themselves to protect Sam from Starscream and Blackout as he made his way to a rooftop where he could pass the All Spark to a military helicopter. Unfortunately, Starscream blocked off Sam's path, prompting the Autobot guardians to engage the more powerful Decepticon immediately. After taking several missiles in the gut, Ironhide implored Sam to keep running.

After the destruction of Megatron and the All Spark, Ironhide somberly cradled the body of the fallen Jazz while Ratchet informed Optimus Prime that there was nothing they could do. Ironhide then gave Captain Lennox a ride home and spent the remainder of the day observing Sam and Mikaela making out on the hood of Bumblebee, who was in vehicle mode. Transformers (film)

Autobot campaign [ ].

Ironhide arrived on Earth alongside the other Autobots upon Bumblebee's call. As Sector Seven forces closed in on them, Jazz was given the task of drawing the human authorities' attention away from the others. When Jazz soon found himself trapped by both human agents and Decepticons, Ironhide was sent to rescue him (without, Prime ordered him, another incident like that on Kaiba-5 ), a task that ended with his tangling with a Mixmaster unit in a construction lot.

A brief aside with Optimus Prime during the rescue revealed Ironhide's actions may have resulted in the destruction of a small planet at one point. Ironhide maintained that it was going to blow up anyway . Wondering how he became an Autobot in the first place.

In Mission City , Ironhide once again was called to the rescue, as Bumblebee was trapped by a massive swarm of Energon drones activated by the All Spark . Ironhide waded into the thick of them and destroyed every last one. Shortly afterwards, he responded to Jazz's S.O.S. call because he was being pinned down by Brawl ... but was too late; the warrior had been killed by the evil Decepticon. Enraged at the death of his best friend, Ironhide engaged the tank, smashing through the backup drone-units before finally taking down Brawl himself. Transformers The Game

Decepticon campaign [ ]

As the Decepticons closed in on the All Spark within Mission City, Blackout was tasked with bringing down the mighty Ironhide. Ironhide's powerful cannons, force shielding and hordes of backup drones made this fight incredibly difficult for Blackout, but the mammoth Decepticon was finally able to take Ironhide out. As Brawl "Tears the City Apart" because of orders from Megatron, Ironhide attempts to kill Brawl. They get into a huge fight, both equally strong. But in the end Brawl fires one last devastating shot, leaving a robotic corpse lying in the center of Tranquility. Brawl's final words to Ironhide were, "Aww, you don't want to play no more?" Then Brawl took off, continuing to look for Bumblebee and/or Starscream. Ironhide is THE only boss in the game to have hints to attacks. He says many quotes like, "I've been ichin' for a fight!" (which he unleashes a volley of punches), "I'm sending you to the scrap heap" (upon which he jumps up and pounds the ground, immobilizing him for a few seconds), and "You're messing with the wrong Autobot!" (upon which he transforms and donuts, firing missiles the whole time). Transformers Autobots/Decepticons

Movie MonroeTopkickIronhideEdition

The Ironhide truck

As reported at Edmunds and The Monroe Times , Monroe Truck Equipment , in association with Hasbro, released a GMC TopKick 4500 Ironhide special edition featuring most of the modifications made to the Ironhide vehicle props used in the movie, with the only difference being that the truck will retain its stock orange running lights (the movie used blue) and the large stock side view mirrors. You can find one of the ten built @IronhideIsBack

Sadly, installing a grumpy trigger-happy alien robot and deadly high-tech weaponry into the works is not part of the included modifications.

  • In the initial draft of the movie, Ironhide was not present among the Autobot cast. However, he would have been replaced by female Autobot Arcee in later drafts and the subsequent final script.
  • In the movie, Ironhide's guns alone have 10,000 CGI parts each . Yet this was somehow passed over in the Academy Awards for talking polar bears and shape shifting Daemons .
  • There is actually a large scar over Ironhide's right eye. Also, in some shots while he's in alt-mode, his right orange running light appears to have the same scarring.
  • While he was scaring the crap out of that girl, Ironhide is actually "winking" at her right before he left.
  • His left ankle appears to be broken when he is getting out of the pool, having a bit more give than the right.
  • Closer examination of the finished movie reveals that Ironhide was indeed hanging on to Demolisher's lower wheel, and he blew it out — which eventually caused the giant Decepticon to fall over and crash.
  • It is possible that Ironhide's cannons are in fact, multiple weapons in one shell. In other words, he might be able to reconfigure his cannons to fire various types of rounds, given how those guns seem to be constantly transforming, as if Ironhide can't decide which round to fire.
  • In the first movie, if you look real closely after he exited the pool, he has a faceplate and his game model during cut scenes also has a faceplate.
  • In the Revenge of the Fallen game, after you kill someone online as Ironhide, he shouts "I am Ironhide!".
  • As Generation One Colors Ironhide in Xbox or PS3, he has yellow on his armor, but it goes somewhere because his vehicle form has only yellow lights.
  • Also, Ironhide's line "Do you feel lucky, punk?" is a reference to the film Dirty Harry . The was a similar reference made by a character named Stanley Yelnats, played by Shia LaBeouf in the movie Holes when he said to another character, "I feel lucky".
  • This is likely because his death scene was at a very pivotal moment in the story, and served to emphasize Sentinel's treachery; the connection that the audience likely felt with the character after he had survived two prior movies was more than enough for the impact to sink in. In contrast, Jazz's death was at a less pivotal moment in the story, and he had only been around for the duration of one film, back when there were only five known Autobots on Earth; he was also the only Autobot in the first film to die, and thus the writers could afford to bring attention to his death because of how few characters there were.

IRONHIDE 2

Concept art for Ironhide as he appears in DOTM .

  • In Dark of the Moon , he is also shown to have two high-power guns that sit on his back, replacing the ones he lost in Egypt, though they are never used in the movie due to him being told by the Dreads to drop them during their "Mexican standoff". They are used in the game, however, and are referred to as "Heavy Iron".
  • Ironhide's death suggests that the war on Cybertron involved chemical and/or biological warfare, as he was killed with cosmic rust .
  • Ironhide was quite sturdy and heavy, ramming the Dreads' head-on. Not only did he emerge from the collision completely unscathed, the Dreads lost their balance and needed to recover for a short time from the crash.
  • The third movie was the first time Ironhide was seen on screen in close quarters combat. All other times, he simply used his cannons to fight on the front lines.
  • Not surprisingly, in Dark of the Moon , Ironhide retains his integrated weapons alongside his Heavy Iron 2.0 MechTech rifles.
  • In the first film, when Mojo pees on his leg, he says it'll rust. In Dark of the Moon , it is referenced as he rusts away when he dies.
  • In the Dark of the Moon game, Ironhide seems to have fun in destroying cars and other things (not to mention two houses and a few million Decepticons). Optimus contacts him after some damage until he is so annoyed, that he simply tells him that he has to explain it to the human later. Ironhide didn't really seem to care.
  • Total on-screen transformations: Six.

Isaakievskaya Ploshchad (St. Isaac's Square)

St. Isaac's Square has long been one of the main public spaces of St. Petersburg. Some of the greatest works of Russian architecture of the 19th and 20th centuries are located here, including St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Mariinsky Palace, the Hotel Astoria and the Hotel Angleterre. Also, because of the location of the city's Legislative Assembly within the Mariinsky Palace, it has the unofficial status as the main administrative area of St. Petersburg.

The history of this square began in the 1730s and 40s. The area was originally assigned for trading, with a marina planned on the Moyka, warehouses along Bolshaya Gostinaya Ulitsa, and stalls selling salt along Voznesensky Prospekt. However, in the 1760s more grandiose structures began to appear in the area. On the south side of the square the Palace of Field Marshal Ivan Chernyshev was built beyond the Moyka River. On the north side, St. Isaac's Cathedral was reconstructed to designs by Antonio Rinaldi - this was the third cathedral in the area, the first having been adapted from one of the original warehouses. In fact, the "eternal construction" of St. Isaac's Square lasted around one hundred consecutive years.

In 1796, after the death of Catherine II, Emperor Paul ordered the transfer of all the marble from the project to the construction of the Mikhailovsky Castle. As a result St. Isaac's Cathedral was finished with clay brick and the unimpressive structure was received poorly. In 1816, Alexander I commissioned Auguste de Montferrand to erect a new temple. Forty years later the temple was complete. Urban legend has it that Montferrand predicted he would die soon after the temple was complete and deliberately dragged out the construction. This, in the end, is exactly what happened. However, the time and effort shows through, and St. Isaac's Cathedral is the fourth tallest cathedral in the world after the Basilica of St. Peter in Rome, St. Paul's Cathedral in London, and St. Mary's Cathedral in Florence.

In 1839-1844, Russian court architect Andrey Stackenshneider was commissioned by Nicolas I to build the magnificent Mariinsky Palace for his daughter Maria. At the same time, the Blue Bridge spanning the Moyka was extended to 99 meters, making it the widest bridge in St. Petersburg. A large portion of the bridge is incorporated within St. Isaac's Square and can go unnoticed. In the years 1856-1859, an equestrian monument to Nicholas I was erected in the center of the square. The statue's engineering is unique due to the fact that the rearing horse's feet are the only two points of support for the entire sculpture.

In the beginning of the 20th century, the diverse architectural ensemble of St. Isaac's Square began to be filled with new styles. In the south-eastern side of the square, the Hotel Astoria, an excellent example of St. Petersburg Art Nouveau, was built by the architect Fyodor Lidval. At around the same time on the opposite side of the square a new German Embassy was designed by the distinguished German architect and industrial designer Peter Behrens. This building's muscular neoclassicism was widely criticized at the time, but proved a prototype for what became the official architectural style of the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin (the building was also purportedly greatly admired by Adolf Hitler).

In 1923 the square was renamed after one of the first Soviet diplomats, Vaclav Vorovsky, assassinated that year by a White emigre terrorist at the Conference of Lausanne, but in 1944 it returned to its historic name. During the Siege of Leningrad, a kitchen garden was laid out in the center of the square where vegetables were grown to feed the inhabitants of the war-torn city.

It is important to note that during its existence St. Isaac's Square has repeatedly been victim to St. Petersburg floods, as its location is close to the narrowest part of the Neva River. At such times, St. Isaac's Cathedral often became an island in a sea of water. Consequently in 1971, on the Moyka Embankment next to the Blue Bridge a "scale of Neptune" was installed - an obelisk that records the levels of major urban floods.

Today, the colonnade of St. Isaac's Cathedral offers a superb panoramic view of the square and all of downtown St. Petersburg.
