There are no words for how incredible this tour was. I had high expectations and a lot of excitement for this trip and I was nervous I was setting myself up for disappointment, but no such thing. Richard reached out several times ahead of the trip to help us prep and ensure we had what we needed. When we arrived, the tour accomodated our arrival time to Uganda. We had an incredible experience at every park. Veronica was an amazing guide sharing her love of Uganda and passion in what she does. Sam, our driver, he kept us safe and entertained especially on those long drives. We saw everything we were hoping to and more and were able to experience some of the culture. The accommodations were great and the food was excellent. I cannot recommend this tour and this tour company more. We were told that Mukisa means blessing, and that they were. Thank you for making a memory to never forget.

Mukisa Safari Tour scheduled an amazing trip and Richard our contact was very quick with responses and helpful but our guide Veronica and our driver Sam were what made the trip all what we could hope it could be. Sam got us from place to place safely, had a good sense of humor, and gave us some tidbits along the way. He also introduced me to the chili oil there which was perfect to add to our food. Veronica was so knowledgable, caring, and you can tell loves her country and job. We met another couple at one of the lodges that said all companies are the same but we have to disagree. This company, the people , and the activities made it a trip of a lifetime. Starting off seeing rhinos the first day was just the beginning. Make sure you get to the top of Murchison Falls because that is breathtaking. The weather was hot but up there with the mist helped cool things off. By the end of day two the only thing we didn't see in the big five was the lion which was fine as you do the lion trekking in Queen Elizabeth's National Park. I would recommend everyone spend the extra money for the lion trekking as we went off the road and got to see things no one else got to see such as lion cubs and a leopard that used the car to get some shade. You go on two river boats but honestly the second one was so much better seeing animals. So many babies, and variety. The chimpanzee and gorilla trekking is why we went but the whole trip was truly noteworthy. The drives are long and bumpy but enjoy the people and the time to reflect. When we had a health issue everyone was helpful and responsive. Veronica was very communicative every step of the way and if things got changed or needed taken care of she was there explaining what and why. Out of all the companies out there I think you will be very happy with Mukisa.

Enchanted Uganda Safaris Lt…

Epic trip. Had to take one shot at an African Safari incase can’t go again. After lot of research chose Uganda because that is the only place where in addition to the big 5 you can do mountain gorilla trekking. Saw huge number of elephants on land and water, hippos in huge colonies and even 3 grazing at night in our resort grounds. Saw leopard climbing down tree as well as pride of lions in close proximity. Saw a number of white rhinos giraffes huge herds of water buffalos, Nile crocodiles in addition to multitude of birds. The chimpanzee trek was a good preparation for the ultimate gorilla trek in biwindi impenetrable forest. The people of Uganda are very very courteous and polite. Our tour guide Bosco and driver Vince tried hard to make the trip memorable and were very attentive to our needs. Strongly recommend .

Everything from start to finish was great. I first reached out to Bosco, the owner on WhatsApp and he was very helpful in answering all my questions and reassured me about the trip. Bosco was also our guide and driver for my 14-day safari. He was a fun, informative guide and driver. Bosco did a great job of selecting comfortable accommodations and food even though it was a budget trip. I got to see elephants, giraffes, lions, chimps, gorillas, and many more! Also, I got to experience some local culture as well, eating local foods and seeing how locals make a living. I felt like I really got my moneys worth on this trip going through a local operator. Bosco was very accommodating stopping for breaks, photos, shopping, atms, etc. I highly recommend anyone going to Uganda choose Enchanted Uganda Safari and Bosco.

We did get to see everything on the tour. We just wished the itenerary was more clear, driving took up 3 of our 7 days. It’s way too long to be sitting in cars for entire days. Also the car had not been maintained enough as it broke down. Plus we ran out of gas. Next was the mid-range level of hotels. We stayed at 4 hotels two which were pretty nice but the other two were quite dismal. The food was ok. Was all included but all similar food which we thought was Uganda way? Our last night we went on our own to a nice restaurant around the corner and the food was fantastic. So then I think our tour just cheaper out on food. Breakfasts at the hotels were lovely. The gorillas were amazing the absolute main feature CB of the tour

The tour also provided the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Uganda from the amazing countryside landscape to the fascinating people that live there. I have traveled in several other African countries on previous safaris and adding this tour to my resume allowed me to have a more total experience when is comes to enjoying all that Africa has to offer in terms of its rare animals and stunning environments.

Not really knowing what to expect on this adventure, we were happy we chose this itinerary. It was fast pace but with enough time to rest between events. What a unique experience to see the gorillas and chimps in their natural habitat. The trekking guides took great care of us, gave us the information and support we need for a successful trek. We never felt unsafe during our treks. Our Devine African Safari private guide; Emma was fantastic, professional and personable. He made sure we were where we needed to be on time, thought ahead to ensure trip details went accordingly, gave us useful information throughout the trip, and overall was just a pleasure to have guide us. Travel distance from Entebbe to the trekking location is quite far but the scenery is unique and something to behold. Stopping at the Equator for photos and lunch at a local spot was a nice treat. The people of Uganda were very pleasant, calm, and inviting. We would definitely recommend this trip, Devine African Safari, and Emma to future travelers.

The Gorilla Experience was amazing, but the overall trip was quite poorly planned. It resulted in us travelling on the bus for8-10 hours a day, often arriving at the camp site only an hour before it was dark. If I had known that this was going to be the case, I would have just flown to Uganda and gone straight to the Gorilla Park! Also our guide was not very good- very little information was given so I felt quite disconnected from the countries.

The tour was good but a lot of space for improvement . Lunch menu could be reviewed. Some times the Facilities in the camping sites were not working no flash or no hot water . Long driving hours , some times longer than mentioned in the trip notes. Out of the 16 days we had 5 full days of driving. So 11 days out of which the arrival and departure days. If you book in advance an activity you will be charged much more. In my case the golden monkeys was charged 180 usd and locally it was 100 usd. An other traveler booked in advance the ballon but she was not charged more . So there is some ambiguity in the pricing …. If you are Australian you would be privileged… as regards pricing . This is what I have understood. I am well traveled and it is the first time I see such ambiguity in the price of pre booked activities.

This was a MEMORABLE trip! All 3 staff, Heston, Westinghouse and Alois, were 5 star in every way. I'm my opinion, a better more upscale hotel would be a good start to thus trip. I found the Kenya Comfort Hotel to be seriously lacking. For the amazing day at Maasi Mara, please include the price of the jeep in the tour. There is no way we could have seen what we saw if we had been in the big bus. Please also upgrade the bus to include an electronic ice chest. We all purchased beverages that needed to be chilled, and ice was almost impossible to find. Finally, the tents are old, heavy and difficult to assemble. Please consider a tent upgrade for the future.

Had a fabulous and unforgetable camping adventure. Very well organised with our amazing tour guide, cook and driver. In our 60's we were the oldest couple, but as long as you're fit you can do this. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

The travel and tourism industry in Uganda contributes around 9% of Uganda’s GDP (2011) according to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). The WTTC ranked Uganda 88th out of 181 countries worldwide in terms of relative contribution of tourism to the economy (2011). This figure was set to rise by 4.2% in 2012. The WTTC estimates that the sector accounts for 7.9% of total employment in the country with around 522,500 jobs both directly and indirectly linked to tourism. This figure is set to rise with the growing industry (2011). The country received 946,000 visitors in 2010 and visitor exports accounted for 22.6%.

Tourism is a growing industry in Uganda and is centred on Uganda’s wildlife and landscapes. The Uganda Tourism Board, which promotes tourism to Uganda, the Uganda Wildlife Authority, which manages the national parks and wildlife, and the Ministry for Tourism, Trade and Industry are the key public bodies in the sector.  The Ministry announced development of regulations for tour guides, ecotourism development, hotels and restaurants. Uganda is home of the source of the Nile and the northern shore of one of the most famous lakes in Africa, Lake Victoria. The country is also famed for its primates and many safari holidays are focused on trekking and spotting this kind of wildlife. Other big game and big cat safaris are also popular. Given the interest in wildlife holidays ecotourism is a burgeoning sector as is luxury travel and safaris. The main focus of tourism marketing is on western travellers with cultural tourism aimed at both individual travellers and family groups.  

Investment in the travel and tourism sector in 2011 was UGX494.5bn, constituting 4.8% of total investment.  This was expected to rise by 3.1% in 2012, and then continue to rise by 6.1% pa over the following ten years, reaching UGX922.2bn by 2022.

Frequently asked Covid-19 related questions in Uganda

Considering the growing pandemic situation worldwide,The Republic of Uganda has laid out some strict protocols for all its travellers who are entering Uganda and also for those who are exiting the country. We have summarized the rules and regulations imposed on the travellers as FAQs (frequently asked questions) for you to plan your travel in a better way.

Do I need a negative COVID-19 certificate to enter the country?

All travellers (Including children) irrespective of vaccination status or country of origin are required to with a negative PCR test which is done 72 hours before travel, and will be required to undergo mandatory screening and carry out a PCR test at their own cost at all points of entry including Entebbe International airport. This new measure will be effective from September 3rd, 2021. The PCR test in the airport will cost USD 65 - USD 100. Test results will take up to 4 hours. Travellers have the option of waiting at the testing site for their results or checking into a designated hotel at their own expense.

Do children also need a negative COVID-19 certificate?

Until 3 September children aged three and under are exempt when accompanying parents arrive with a negative test certificate.However, from 3 September all travellers including children aged three and under will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 test certificate on arrival and additionally undergo PCR testing (at their own expense) on arrival.

Do I need a negative COVID-19 test certificate while departing Uganda even when my destination country does not require it?

Yes, an authentic and valid negative COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test certificate issued within 72 hours from the time of sample collection to the time of boarding the aircraft even if the country the passenger is going to does not require it. This is to protect the airport workers, airline workers and other passengers in the aircraft.

What are the travel restrictions on those who are travelling to Uganda?

As of 3 September 2021 new COVID-19 measures are in place at all points of entry including Entebbe International Airport. All arriving passengers are required to provide a negative COVID-19 test certificate issued no more than 72 hours before boarding the aircraft to Uganda or crossing land borders. Foreign nationals without a valid negative test certificate will be denied entry. Until 3 September children aged three and under are exempt when accompanying parents arrive with a negative test certificate.

Travellers from the United Kingdom, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and the United States who enter Uganda before 3 September are also required to undergo PCR testing at the border at their own expense, including at Entebbe International Airport. This applies unless they have received their full COVID-19 vaccination, can provide evidence of this and show no COVID-19 symptoms.

From 3 September all travellers (including children aged three and under), irrespective of country of origin or vaccination status, will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 test certificate on arrival and additionally undergo PCR testing (at their own expense) on arrival at all points of entry including at Entebbe International Airport.

The cost of the PCR test on arrival is $65. Passengers who arrive by air will be taken from the airport to a nearby testing site. Test results will take up to 4 hours. Travellers have the option of waiting at the testing site for their results or checking into a designated hotel at their own expense. Adults over the age of 18 who test positive will be taken to a Ministry of Health designated COVID-19 isolation facility. Children under 18 who test positive will be allowed to undergo home quarantine with their parents or guardian.

From 20 August 2021 passengers who have been in India in the previous 14 days are permitted entry into Uganda and are also subject to the measures above.

Passengers arriving or departing from Entebbe International Airport can only be picked up or dropped off by a maximum of two people, including the driver, in order to avoid crowding.

Vehicles with more than the authorised number of people will not be allowed access to the airport.

You should not use the NHS testing service to get a test in order to facilitate your travel to another country. Some airlines have refused to allow passengers who have used NHS tests to travel. You should arrange to take a private test.

If Vaccinated, can I travel to Uganda without Covid test/upon arrival?

All travellers (Including children) irrespective of vaccination status or country of origin are required to with a negative PCR test which is done 72 hours before travel, and will be required to undergo mandatory screening and carry out a PCR test at their own cost at all points of entry including Entebbe International airport.

What is the process of screening on Arrival?

Arriving passengers will be subject to temperature checks and will be screened for infectious diseases by the Port Health authorities. If passengers show signs or symptoms of any infectious disease they will be taken by ambulance to a local isolation centre to undergo a COVID-19 test at their own cost. Test results will be returned within 24 to 48 hours; passengers will be expected to remain at the isolation centre until the test results are returned.

What is the process of screening on Departure?

Departing passengers are required to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate, issued no more than 72 hours before travel. The 72 hours begins on the day the sample is collected for testing. Children aged three and under are exempt when accompanying parents have a negative test certificate. Departing passengers will be required to wear a face mask inside the terminal and will be subject to temperature checks. Social distancing will also be in place and only passengers with valid tickets and airport officials will be allowed into the terminal building. Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least 4 hours before departure.

Where can I get tests done in Uganda ?

Below is the list of private laboratories that are assessed and certified to support the Ministry of health at port of entry in Uganda: - MBN laboratory - Medipal International Hospital - Test and Fly Laboratory - Case Hospital Kampala - Lancet Laboratories - ANCA Biotech Laboratories - City Medicals - TesXpress (now called Safari Lab) - ATCG Laboratories - MAIA Group Labs - Same Day COVID-19 Labs

Is prior appointment required?

Yes, prior appointment is required. You can share your travel plans and required documents with your travel consultant and they will make an appointment for the requested date and time.

How much does the test PCR cost and how long will it take to get the results?

The RT PCR test costs 65 USD per person for results between 12-24 hours and 100 USD per person for results within 3 hours.

Can we get a Rapid test? If yes, How much and where?

Yes Rapid Antigen tests are available at all hospitals outlined by the Ministry of Health. The cost for these tests is 120 USD per person.

How will I get my certificate?

You will have to provide a working contact number/email ID while giving the sample, so that the hospital can contact you when you need to collect your results (Online/Offline). Below is the screenshot of a sample certificate issued at one of the Ministry approved hospital and is for reference purpose only:

When and where should you get the tests done?

Daily Tasks

1. Collect payment for transportation and accommodations from customer.

2. Converse with customer to determine destination, mode of transportation, travel dates, financial considerations, and accommodations required.

3. Compute cost of travel and accommodations, using calculator, computer, carrier tariff books, and hotel rate books, or quote package tour's costs.

4. Book transportation and hotel reservations, using computer terminal or telephone.

5. Plan, describe, arrange, and sell itinerary tour packages and promotional travel incentives offered by various travel carriers.

6. Provide customer with brochures and publications containing travel information, such as local customs, points of interest, or foreign country regulations.

7. Print or request transportation carrier tickets, using computer printer system or system link to travel carrier.

JOB DETAILS: Company Description Tio Tours and Travel is a leading travel company dedicated to providing seamless and exceptional travel experiences. We are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Travel Consultants to join our team. If you are passionate about the travel industry and possess strong organizational skills, we want to hear from you.

Role Description This is a full-time on-site role located in Kampala for a Travel Consultant at TIO Tours And Travel. The Travel Consultant will be responsible for creating travel itineraries for clients, researching destinations, and booking reservations. They will provide exceptional customer service and ensure that all arrangements are seamless, affordable, and tailored to client preferences. The Travel Consultant will also ensure that clients have all necessary documentation and information, such as visas, travel insurance, and health requirements.

Qualifications • Experience working in a travel agency or a similar role in the hospitality industry • Knowledge of travel destinations, visas, travel insurance, and health requirements • Excellent communication skills and exceptional customer service • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks and priorities • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and booking systems • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field
