Check Out This Modified Tata Safari Storme By DC Northeast
This customised Tata Safari Storme features a lot of sporty mods on the exterior, while the interior has been given a premium makeover
Tata Safari is one of the most iconic SUVs in the Indian car market, and a lot of hearts were broken when the vehicle was discontinued back in 2019. Even though Tata has brought the ‘Safari’ back in a new avatar, fans of the original still prefer the older, body-on-frame model due to its rugged nature.
Although the old Tata Safari was an extremely handsome SUV, with plenty of old-school charm, there are a lot of people who take the aftermarket route to enhance its looks! Here, we have a modified Tata Safari Storme, from Assam, which has been extensively modified by DC Northeast . The pictures were shared online by the owner, Dr. Saurav Deori Bharali .
The exterior of this modified Tata Safari Storme features a lot of changes. The SUV gets a custom front grille, with honeycomb mesh, along with a new, rather flashy, front bumper. The chrome slat at the end of the bonnet has been replaced by a carbon fibre unit, and a hood scoop has been added as well. The front bumper also gets integrated LED DRLs, and a DC badge can be seen on the bottom right corner of the front grille.
We also see blacked-out side steps and red guard strips just below the doors at the sides of the SUV. At the rear, the chrome strip on the tailgate has been replaced by a carbon fibre strip, and the Tata logo has been replaced by a DC badge. The rear bumper is custom as well, featuring a faux bash plate (finished in silver), flanked by a fake exhaust vent on either side.
The interior of the vehicle is also quite eye-catchy, featuring red leather upholstery. Behind both first row seats, an entertainment screen and a folding tray have been added. Faux wood has been used on the trays, as well as on the doors, to give the cabin an upmarket and premium feel.
DC Design is perhaps one of the most famous car customisation brands in India. Its owner, Dilip Chhabria, has recently been in the news a lot, with allegations of car financing and forgery scams against him.

Check out these 8 outstanding modified Tata Safari SUVs
First launched in 1998, the Tata Safari can be heralded as the first-ever Indian SUV. In spite of a pretty lacklustre sales performance (average monthly sale between July-December 2018 - 521 units), the 7-seat SUV enjoys a dedicated set of followers across the country, and even in some international markets where it is sold. Over the years, Safari has seen various upgrades and presently comes across as a well-sorted option for those looking for an affordable but sufficiently rugged SUV. Here is a look at some stunning examples of the Tata Safari. While some of these feature aftermarket upgrades, others have been customised in-house by Tata Motors - 8 outstanding modified Tata Safari SUVs.

The ORVMs have been painted black to achieve a bolder look, while the roof carries a luggage carrier and a LED light bar.
On the inside, this Tata Safari features a 2-DIN touchscreen infotainment unit, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), GPS-guided navigation, water-resistant seat covers, rubber mats, car care kit, and an air freshener. Tata Safari Dicor modified into a 6×6 SUV is a head turner
Tata Safari is an iconic name and Tata brought the SUV back to life its new avatar few years ago. The current generation Safari is performing well for Tata but, there is still a large community in India who loves the old-gen Safari. We have seen several modification videos of Tata Safari on the internet however, here we have a video of a Tata Safari Dicor that is like no other Safaris that you have seen so far. It is probably the first and only Tata Safari in the country to be modified into a 6×6 SUV.
The video has been uploaded by Auto Addictionn by prdp on their YouTube channel. The owner of this Safari Dicor always wanted a 6×6 SUV in his garage. He was inspired by the Hummer 6×6 that was available on sale internationally. The owner had a Tata Safari and liked the SUV so much that he decided to modify it into a 6×6 SUV. For this project, the SUV was extended to accommodate the third set of wheels. This was not done using regular metal sheets. He got in touch with several local workshops but none of them agreed to do the job. He then took the car to a workshop in Punjab where they modified it.
Also read: Coming soon: Tata Safari Dark Edition
For this project, they bought another SUV and used the rear section of the second Safari to ensure uniformity. From the front, the car looks stock and there are no changes at all. The SUV looks like any other stock Safari Dicor. As we move to the side, you notice that this SUV is longer than usual and it also has an extra set of wheels at the rear. This was modified to look like a 6×6 SUV but, it is actually a 4×6 SUV. The third set of wheels are placed there just for the looks. As they used another Tata Safari to modify this Safari, extending the frame, chassis and body panels were not that big of an issue.
The finished product was also looking neat because of the same rear. Even from the rear, the tailgate, spare wheel, and bumper were all the same as a regular Safari Dicor SUV. As this Safari is longer than any other Safari in the country, it also offers more space. The original Safari was a three-row SUV with side-facing bench seats for rear passengers. In this SUV, the newly added extended portion gets a long couch installed. There is so much space in the boot that people can actually sleep in it. The fabrication work done on this SUV looks very neat and it does not look odd as well.
The owner mentions that he does not take the SUV out on the road for obvious reasons. The SUV will definitely attract a lot of attention from general public and police. Vlogger even drives the SUV and mentions that it feels extremely long and one has to be careful while making a turn. The interior of this SUV remains stock otherwise. The owner has spent almost Rs 8-12 lakh for this modification.

When it comes to car modifications, sometimes it is not necessary for an enthusiast to spend lakhs of Rupees on performance or aesthetic modifications to make their vehicle unique. A lot of times, that distinctiveness can be achieved with just some minor mods. Recently, a prime example of such subtle modifications completely changing the appearance of a vehicle has been shared online. In this particular video, a Tata Safari Dark Edition was subtly modified with some paint and other changes to make it look even more menacing than it already was.
Tata Safari Dark Edition Modifications
The video of these simple modifications done on a Tata Safari Dark Edition has been shared on YouTube by ETU Studio on their channel. It starts off with the owner of the shop introducing the Safari Dark Edition, which had come to their shop for the application of paint protection film and some other minor aesthetic mods. The video shows the shop owner observing the car after it came to their shop with the owner of the car.

During the initial observation, the owner of the shop finds that there were some minor dents on the vehicle. He then explained to the owner that they will be removing those dents and repainting the panels. After this, he adds they will be painting all of the matte plastic parts like the lower front and rear bumpers along with side claddings in high gloss black. He states that doing this will tie the whole car into one color and will enhance the Dark Edition appearance.
Painting Process
Next up in the video, the presenter shows the vehicle in the paint booth. He adds that they will also be painting the alloy wheels of the car in high gloss black. From the factory, Tata Motors offered the pre-facelift Dark Edition Safari with gunmetal grey-colored alloy wheels. The presenter also mentioned that despite the vehicle not being too old, the red factory-painted calipers were chipped, and paint was peeling off, so they will be painting them in red color as well.
Polishing and PPF
Finally, after all of the painting process was completed, the car went into the detailing shop. The presenter added that the car was then fully polished with polishing compound and rotary polisher machines by their expert technicians. In the video, it can be noted that the car gets a mirror-like polish. After this process, the application of paint protection film starts on the car.
The technicians start cutting the PPF to the size of each individual panel and apply them using a solution. They remove all the bubbles and finish off the process. For those unaware, paint protection films are transparent plastic films applied to painted panels of vehicles to protect them from rock chips and other damaging elements like bird droppings and hard water stains.
Owner’s Reaction
Lastly, after all the processes were completed, the finished Tata Safari Dark Edition was shown to its owner. And soon after seeing the vehicle in person, the owner stated that the results have come better than he anticipated. He added that painting the matte plastic parts in high gloss black and repainting the calipers in red with gloss black alloy wheels has completely changed the look of the vehicle.

If Tata Safari was a track car, this is how it would look. (Photo Courtesy: Instagram/bimbledesigns)
A Tata Safari SUV built to set lap times on a race track? As off-beat as it may sound, it does look rather interesting in this render.
One of the most successful SUVs in the Indian car market, the Tata Safari recently made a comeback with its all-new design and looks. Based on Tata’s IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy, the new Safari sported an eyeball-grabbing modern design. While Tata got a lot of appreciation for the design, many independent designers reimagined the SUV digitally giving it a new flair. Now, the SUV has been digitally redesigned as a track-only vehicle by bimbledesigns.
While the overall profile of the Safari has not been tweaked much, the artist has introduced some changes in the re-designed vehicle. A 6.2L Hemi V8 supercharged engine borrowed from Jeep Trackhawk has replaced the original engine of the Safari in this customized concept SUV named Safari ST 2021 track only concept
Painted in matte silver colour, this redesigned Safari features a black stripe running through the body. There's also a bug Safari labelling on the sides, which gives a sporty feel to the vehicle. The grille design hasn't been changed but the Tata badge at the front has been blacked out. There's a scoop on the bonnet for facilitating ventilation for the massive engine.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Bimble Designs (@bimbledesigns)
The bumper now has smoother lines to ensure the SUV is able to cut through the air smoothly. The headlamps on the original Safari have been removed from this digitally designed version. On the sides, there are huge wheel arches that house the track tyres from Toyo. The vehicle also gets new all-black alloys. While the ground clearance of the Tata Safari has been lowered, the stance looks impressively enhanced.
The list of changes continues to the back. While the LED taillamps on the original Safari haven’t been changed, there are additional lights placed in the lower reflector. The plastic pieces connecting both the tail lamps have been blacked out along with the Tata logo. There's ST branding sitting on the lower end of the door.
Also Watch:
While the original Tata Safari comes with a 2.0-litre Kyrotec diesel engine with a maximum output of 170 PS of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque, this redesigned SUV gets a 6.2-litre V-8 engine giving it a punch of power. The engine offering can produce 707 bhp and can go from 0 to 60 in 2.2 seconds.

2000 km in 4 days with my new Tata Safari facelift: 10 Pros & 7 Cons
Had the Nexon EV Prime previously and currently own the Nexon EV Max, alongside the new Safari.
BHPian shashankw839 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.
I am also a fellow Safari Accomplished Plus owner. I have recently purchased the car. I have been a strong EV enthusiast but there are no options in 7-seater cars in EVs so decided to pick up the Safari. I have owned the Nexon EV Prime before but my experience was not good and also now have the Nexon EV Max which has certain niggles too and I am waiting for a proper resolution still. I have owned tons of cars from different brands so far but love to support our brands and want them to succeed. However, I must sadly say that the customer service approach from our local brands particularly Tata and Mahindra is not up to the mark for sure. I’ll list some pros and cons I found with my car after driving it for 2000 in 4 days recently.
Tata Safari facelift Pros:
- The car is solidly built. The LR platform outshines on the highways. The car eats up the miles in comfort.
- Seating comfort for 7 passengers is quite good. I have the 7 seater configuration and 6 adults and 1 kid could travel without feeling cramped for space. The last row is usable by adults too.
- Cameras are crisp and clear in the daytime and are okay in the nighttime. The parking guidelines are accurate. The 360-degree camera and front and back sensors are a boon to handle the bulky size of the vehicle.
- The JBL music system is simply awesome. It’s too good for the car at this price point. The infotainment screen is crisp and Android Auto and Apple carplay being wireless is a very good feature.
- The car has ample charging sockets for all occupants. The utility part of the car is neatly done.
- Seats are super comfortable for all occupants. Just the right amount of cushion and ergonomics for everyone. Seat ventilation is a bonus.
- I am simply blown away by the suspension setup on the car. I have used luxury cars with 2x and 3x the price of the safari and they would also unsettle on some bad road conditions when driven with full load. However, the safari is rock solid on bad roads. The suspension setup is very impressive.
- The electronic power steering is light to drive and does not cause any fatigue. The driving position is perfect for my liking and I could do almost 500+ kms a day on an avg for 4 days straight without getting tired.
- The engine is very well refined and noise levels are well isolated from the cabin. A commendable job has been done to make the cabin experience smooth on the new version.
- The engine is very efficient as well. At lower three-digit speeds constantly, I could extract 13-15 km/l mileage with a full load which is very good.
Tata Safari facelift Cons:
- The legacy of cons remains and they need to be sorted by Tata ASAP for the product to succeed. The first and foremost is the fit and finish of the car. There are uneven panel gaps all over the cabin and on the exterior.
- The paint finish is not up to the mark at all places on the car. The fitment of plastic parts in the interior is not correct in many parts of the car. This causes some rattles when travelling.
- The biggest hit-and-miss is Adas functions. In 4 days of travel, I got ADAS sensor malfunction warnings around 6 times. Adaptive cruise control would become unavailable when the sensor used to go mad. Lane keep assist is not active and the lane departure warning is very late in responding. Collision assist also does not work well and is very late to warn even when sensitivity is set to the highest level. Overall ADAS calibration is not up to the mark. The only thing that I found working correctly was the rear cross-traffic alert.
- The OE tyres provided with the cars are hard. The lower trims get Bridgestones while the top trim gets MRFs with an odd size. The size 245/55 R19 is very odd and if you end up damaging one of your tyres, it is very hard to find a tyre of this size easily. I have upgraded my tyres to Pirelli Pzeros and they have made a huge difference to the car and its handling.
- There are hardly any accessories available for the car with TML. The floor mats they provided do not match and they say it might take some months for the mats to arrive. So the car gets dirty easily.
- As I said the cons continue and so another big issue is the lack of knowledge of the model with TML technicians. I took the car 2 times to the dealership so far and both times did not have a great experience. First, it was for the number plate fitment and the person there started fitting the plate right in front of the Adas sensor and was not even aware that he was going to block the radar. Fortunately, another technician was available who could understand what I was saying and then repositioned the plate. The second time the fog light was making noise and was loose and the technician mentioned that the full bumper needed to be taken down while it was just a matter of removing one cover from the wheel arch.
- The headlights on the car are not good at all for highway conditions. The throw is not bright enough and neither it is long enough. The spread is ok but the throw is hardly 150-200 feet even on a high beam. Tata needs to provide better headlights for sure for safety reasons. I had to drive very cautiously at night due to the bad headlights.
Overall, it is a great car and Tata has come a long way with its improvements, however, they need to solve the niggles and basic customer service issues asap to give the owners a better experience. The issues with ADAS need to be solved on priority because they are related to safety.

- Tata Safari got a new life in October last year with a heavily redesigned touch and fresh features.
Tata Motors launched the new Safari SUV in India in October last year with a wide range of updates. New TFT cluster with maps
The new Tata Safari SUV comes with a fully digital instrument cluster, which is a common feature in many modern cars. Four types of voice commands
Voice command functionality is not a novelty anymore in modern cars. The new Tata Safari comes with an audio package that comes paired with Alexa, in addition to the native built-in voice commands, Siri and Google commands as well.
Powered tailgate opening
Tata Motors has introduced a powered tailgate, which comes with six different levels of adjustable opening height. This ensures convenience for Safari owners of different heights. The powered tailgate of the new Safari comes with four different access options, including the remote key, dashboard button, and exterior and interior buttons on the tailgate.

- Tata Safari Red Dark Edition showcased – Top highlights
Pawan Mudaliar
Tata Motors launched the Dark Editions of the Harrier and Safari alongside their facelift versions in India in October 2023. But now, at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024, the automaker has showcased the Red Dark Edition of its three-row flagship SUV. Expected to be launched soon in the upcoming months, this special edition of the Safari will be sold along with standard variants. In this article, we will pen down all the highlights of the Safari Red Dark Edition.
Upfront, the Red Dark Edition of the Safari gets horizontal red inserts near the LED headlamps and a Tata logo finished in black. In profile, the front and rear brake callipers along with the Safari badging on the front doors are now painted red. At the rear, the only change is the red-painted Safari badging on the tailgate. Apart from this, the SUV remains identical to its Dark Edition.
Tata Motors has continued the same red and black theme inside the SUV. The dashboard now comes wrapped in an all-black interior theme with red accents and the Dark badging all around. The door handles and the grab handles on the centre console are also painted red complemented with red seat upholstery and red ambient light. Further, the panoramic sunroof gets red ambient lighting around it. In addition to this, the Safari Red Dark Edition will get all the features that Tata offers on the top-spec variant of the Safari.
Engine and powertrain
Under the hood, the Safari Red Edition will continue with the same 2.0-litre diesel engine that you get with the standard Safari. This engine is tuned to produce 170bhp and 350Nm of torque, sending power to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed torque converter.
