Don't miss UK shoegaze pioneers RIDE with special guests MERCURY REV  at Forum Melbourne  this August.

RIDE ’s reunion in 2014 meant that for long-time fans of the beloved group, they were about to get a brand-new era from the band who had been responsible for one of the most important waves of British music through the ‘80s and ‘90s.

Forming in Oxford, England in 1988, RIDE set the blueprint for the shoegaze scene with the release of their landmark debut album Nowhere  - a timeless classic that inspired a wave of shoegaze bands to follow in years to come.

Armed with their stellar seventh studio album, INTERPLAY , this is RIDE’S third album since reforming in 2014, having now been together longer in their current second phase than their original iteration as 90’s shoegaze pioneers. Their music has remained nothing short of exciting - on this album chaotic guitars meet excellently produced synths and melodies, as threads of psychedelic folk and electronic music weave together with ease.

Joining RIDE  on this epic return to Australia/NZ is beloved indie/psych rock group MERCURY REV .

Shoegaze trailblazers ride announce australian tour this august.

Ride

Ride, the British band that epitomized the shoegaze movement of the late '80s and early '90s, is heading down under for a run of dates.

In August, shoegazers in Australia and New Zealand will have the chance to see the genre’s pioneers live and loud. In support of their latest album, Interplay, Ride will be bringing their enormous pedal boards on tour with American indie psych-rock icons Mercury Rev.

Ride – ‘Vapour Trail’

Released in 1990 following early EPs Ride , Play and Fall,  Ride’s jangly, reverb-heavy full-length debut marked a pivotal entry into the pantheon of essential shoegaze records – alongside My Bloody Valentine ‘s Loveless and Slowdive ‘s Souvlaki – with its blend of psychedelic and noise-pop influences. The album also contains arguably the band’s most beloved song, lead single ‘Vapour Trail’.

Ride went on to release three more albums in their first incarnation – 1992’s Going Blank Again, 1994’s Carnival of Light and 1996’s Tarantula – before disbanding. They returned in 2014, releasing fifth album Weather Diaries in 2017 and most recent record This Is Not A Safe Place in 2019, touring Australia in support of the latter.

Ride Announce Australian & New Zealand Tour For November & December Celebrating 30 Years Of  Nowhere By Playing It In Full

UK shoegaze pioneers,  Ride , will tour Australia and New Zealand this November, celebrating the 30th Anniversary of their debut full length album, Nowhere , by playing it in full for their fans!

Originally released in October 1990,  Nowhere  is been called one of the ‘greatest albums of the shoegaze genre’ by AllMusic and a ‘Masterpiece’ by Rolling Stone. It has also featured in Top Albums of the 90’s and Top Albums Of All Time by Pitchfork and Spin respectively as well as the legendary reference book, ‘ 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die .’

Featuring the bands biggest song,  Vapour Trail , Nowhere is the blueprint for an entire sub-genre.

Ride were dubbed ’shoe-gazers’ by the British music press for their shy disposition and head down, focused concentration on their guitar pedals when playing live. Little did anyone expect the term to go on and create a new genre that would become one of the most enduring over the coming decades! Combining the trembling distortion laid down by earlier influences like The Smiths, My Bloody Valentine and the Brit-pop invasion with more direct and simpler melodies and ethereal vocals, Ride created a sound that was one of hopeless optimism.

Their early live shows created a buzz not seen in years. With guitars and sound the focus over the late 80’s theatrics that by then were dead and buried, the band achieved a following in six months that other bands took six years to reach. A string of EP’s released in quick succession set the scene for their debut full length, Nowhere , to drop in late 1990 to blanket critical appreciation. It was full of angst but it was ecstatic. It was hypnotic but it was raw and it made them one of the biggest UK bands of the 90’s.

They spent most of ’91 on the road which included their first visit to Australia. Over the next half a decade, Ride were in their element. Each release building on the one before it and growing their global fanbase to exponential levels that put them ahead of their contemporaries by a country mile. Opening for Oasis in 1995 to their biggest crowd to date proved to be one of their last shows and soon after the release of 96’s  Tarantula , domestic bliss took over and the band went on an extended hiatus for almost two decades!

Ride reformed in 2014 and released their first album in 21 years called  ‘Weather Diaries ‘ in 2017, which received critical and commercial acclaim. They followed it up in 2019 with ‘ This Is Not A Safe Place’  which saw the band embracing their new found creativity and rejuvenated dynamic. The album landed at #7 in the UK, their highest chart position in 25 years!

Ride are currently working on new material but until then make sure you get to one of the shows for a timely reminder of just how brilliant, how different, how influential, and how fundamental Ride were to what has since followed!

TOUR DATES Tuesday, November 29: The Gov,  Adelaide Wednesday, November 30: The Forum,  Melbourne Thursday, December 1: Enmore Theatre,  Sydney Friday, December 2: Princess Theatre,  Brisbane Sunday, December 4: Freo Social,  Perth Tuesday, December 6: Studio, Auckland

Ride Announce Australia And New Zealand Tour

They’ll be joined by Mercury Rev in August.

Ride

Ride (Andrew Briscoe)

More Ride

UK shoegaze icons Ride have announced they’ll be touring Australia and New Zealand this August, promoting their seventh album Interplay.

The six-show tour will hit most Aussie capital cities – Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth – and close out in Auckland. Joining them for all shows will be Mercury Rev .

Ride reformed in 2014 after a famous split in the mid-’90s. Since their return to the industry, they’ve released three albums, and have been together longer in this stint than their pre-split phase.

Beginning in England in 1988, the Nowhere artists were pioneers of the shoegaze genre, mixing indie and rock in an ethereal style. They’ve retained their unique sound over the years, with their latest album proving it.

Ride is also renowned for their on-stage chemistry, as The Music reviewer Andy Hazel said of their 2022 show in Melbourne: “Singer and guitarist Mark Gardener ’s floppy fringe may be long gone, and eternal foil Andy Bell may be hiding stage right under a baseball cap that spends most of the night tilted toward the neck of his guitar, but the opening squall of feedback that announces Seagull is like an electric shock that sends us back to 1990.

“Everything sounds bigger and better than everything else. As the band launches into Kaleidoscope , it becomes apparent that there is some kind of dark magic here that goes beyond fidelity. It’s not just the crowd willing the band to be good or the subtle backing tracks augmenting the songs; it is the songs themselves. Even after being drenched in distortion and cranked to eleven, these are delicate immaculately-written tunes. Songs that could have been played on acoustic guitars in English folk clubs in the early 1970s.”

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

Gardener previously told The Music that Ride’s reunion feels like “a second chance.” He explained: “The lives that we’ve had are a lot to do with Ride. That’s how people are going to remember us: we’re always gonna be those guys who were in that band Ride.”

Pre-sale tickets for Ride’s tour go on sale on May 15, 9am local time. General sale begins May 17, 9am local time. Tickets are expected to be priced from $99-$129 and can be found here .

The British shoegaze legends finally return

The reformation of Ride was one of the most exciting music stories of the past half-decade or so for indie rock lovers.

Now Australian fans can rejoice, with news that the band will return to our country for the first time since the early-90s.

Since the release of their debut album Nowhere in 1990, Ride have been one of the most revered exponents of the shoegaze genre, doing their part in developing the sound that typified a lot of 90s indie rock.

The band will have their sixth album, This Is Not A Safe Place , out this August, just two weeks before they land on our soil.

But no doubt they’ll dig deep into their catalogue to pull out classic from throughout their illustrious career.

They are one of the most influential bands of the 80s and 90s and their music sounds just as stunning now as it ever did.

We’ve been waiting a long time to see Ride live, now it’s finally happening again.

The likes of Glide, Screamfeeder, Undeground Lovers, Hummingbirds and Caligula supported on the band's last tour back in July of 1992, it remains to be seen who'll get the call up all these years on.

Ride play the following shows on their Australian tour. Tickets are on sale from Thursday 2 May.

Saturday 31 August – Astor Theatre, Perth Wednesday 4 September – The Tivoli, Brisbane Thursday 5 September – Forum Theatre, Melbourne Friday 6 September – Enmore Theatre, Sydney

Along with acts such as My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, and Slowdive, the British experimental pop group Ride helped lay the framework for the shoegaze genre. They are noted for layering sounds into complicated and lush mosaics, while maintaining a strong presence of pop sensibilities.

Ride formed in Oxford, England in 1988 and consisted of members Andy Bell, Laurence Colbert, Mark Gardener, and Steve Queralt. Before the group’s formation Bell and Garderner were involved in musical theatre at Cheney School in Oxford, but eventually went on to study art and design at North Oxfordshire located in Banbury. They met fellow student Colbert there and recruited him to be the band’s drummer. Queralt (who was in the reggae/pop band the Spiderbacks with Bell) became the group’s bassist. The members shared a love for 60s psychedelic rock bands like the Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd and the Byrds as well as 80s noise-pop acts such as Spaceman 3 and Sonic Youth; however, Ride reportedly owes it’s existence to The Smiths (one of their performances was a life-altering experience for Bell).

Ride recorded their first demo in 1988, which consisted of the songs “Chelsea Girls” and “Drive Blind”. Jim Reid, the lead singer of the Jesus & Mary Chain heard the demo and impressed by the group’s sound past it on to his manager Alan McGee. Less than a year later McGee signed the band to Creation Records. Ride proved to be one of the labels most promising acts. Within 9 months the band had recorded and released 3 EPs “Ride”, “Play”, and “Fall” all which entered the UK Top 75.

On 15 October 1990, Ride released their studio debut “Nowhere”. The album included all of tracks on their “Fall” EP as well as an additional 4 newly recorded songs. It was a commercial and critical landmark for the group, going silver in the UK and rising to No. 11 on the charts. The album has been recognized as an essential record of the shoegaze genre (a label the band often rejects) and likewise one of the greatest albums of the 90s. One of the album’s songs “Vapour Trail” has left a strong impression on popular culture as well. It appeared at No.145 on Pitchfork’s Top 200 Tracks and was also mentioned in the book “Perks of Being a Wallflower”.

Due to the hype created from their studio debut, fans were eager to hear a new recording form the band. Ride answered their audience’s demand with their 1991 EP “Today Forever”. As “Nowhere” established the group as noise-rock heroes “Today Forever” acted as an erasure for that title and saw the group headed towards a more pop oriented direction. Despite the change in sound the EP did well commercially and critically and was followed by a near-instantly sold out tour of Japan.

The band toured excessively around this time and the strain it placed on the members started to show; however, they returned with another ecstatically reviewed and commercially accepted album “Going Blank Again”. This was followed by more touring, this time alongside the brit-pop group the Charlatans.

Around the time of the recording of their 3rd album “Carnival of Light” the band was self-reportedly delving into extreme indulgence and treated their music on a secondary level. Inevitably the album received harsh reactions from both critics and the band themselves. Their next album “Tarantula” did not do much better. The band was starting to implode at this point, stemmed largely by disagreements between Bell and Gardner. The writing on the album was split between the 2 musicians, with Bell accounting for most of the material. The album struggled on the charts and was dismissed by critics, eventually being dropped by its label within 1 week of sales.

Roughly 6 years after the band’s demise they appeared in a Sonic Youth documentary and played a 20 minute jam session for the film, which was later released in 2002 as “Coming up for Air”. In November of 2014 the band announced that they would be reuniting and released a string of tour dates including gigs in Glasgow, Manchester, Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, and New York.

Live reviews

Back together and ready to perform Nowhere in full Ride split this effectively acting as their own support. The first set opens with an epic Leave Them All Behind lasting close on 15 minutes. The sound is superb and they sound like a band who have played together continuously for 25 years not one who have had a hiatus. Gardener and Bell play off each other while Colbert's drumming sets the pace with Queralt's bass. From this it's straight into Like A Daydream and a trawl through the non Nowhere backcatalogue, which sounds surprisingly fresh and actually better than I remember it sounding on record - making me want to go back and revisit it a bit more. Gardener's voice is strong and the guitar work, as you would expect, superb.

A brief intermission and change of backdrop to the iconic cover and it's straight to Nowhere. What we get is a stunning interpretation of the album. Given there's not a weak track on the album it makes for a blissful 45 to 50 minutes. Nowhere finished we cut into Taste, Here And Now and Nowhere before a blistering encore of the classics Drive Blind and Chelsea Girl. Drive Blind featuring an extraordinary breakdown in the middle in a squall of guitars and feedback with dramatic lighting - it sounds and feels like the soundtrack to the end of the world.

This sounds and feels like a band relaxed and at the top of their game.

While it was common in the day to lump Ride in with other members of the pre-Oasis Britpop scene like The Stone Roses or Slowdive, this Oxford quartet seemed happy to do their own thing. Embracing a less-immediate, more sprawling art rock sound that gave them more in common with 4AD bands, Ride were just as likely to kick into 15 minutes of swirling, psychedelic guitars as anything.

Seeing Ride live is to realize that guitarist Mark Gardener and bassist Andy Bell are not only gifted musicians, but also able to blend their voices in deceptively smooth harmonies. The band plays louder than one might expect from their airier sound on record, although for fans of shoegaze that's nothing unexpected. The best part of seeing Ride in concert is hearing how songs like “Seagull”, “Vapour Trail”, or especially “Leave Them All Behind” lend themselves to extended jams and sprawling, acid-drenched guitar workouts. In fact, at times they almost edge into the hippest prog rock ever played.

There's really no frills to how Ride present themselves on stage; the band makes it clear that their performance is all about the music. Don't expect drama, don't expect fog machines or pyrotechnics. When you're as great as Ride, the music and performance stands on its own merit.

British shoe gazing pioneers Ride have delighted fans by announcing a reformation to collate their classic four albums into a 'greatest hits' setlist of sorts. They were always known as pioneers of their time and they weren't afraid to take their sound in a different direction to the Britpop boom that became synonymous with the 90's.

The comeback gigs have been attended by a huge range of fans, those who have eagerly awaited the return after supporting the group during their heyday and those who are late arrivals to the band's music. Either way, the reaction is one of universal adoration as the group step onstage and begin a psychedelic setlist featuring classics including 'Twisterella' and 'Leave Them All Behind'. The band thanks the audience for their support and explains they were an integral part of the reformation. By the final tones of 'Like A Daydream' and 'Chelsea Girl' everybody inside is incredibly glad to have Ride back together and feeling as though a decade had been lost waiting for the reform.

When i heard Ride was coming to Minneapolis, I was skeptical, why flyover country? When I heard which venue I knew I had to go. Mill City Nights is a small, but the sound is great. The opening band Canadian's Besnard Lakes was an atmospheric wandering which used lots of fog and harmonies to wash into the crowd.

If Besnard Lakes made the crowd smile while rocking back and forth, Ride blew those smiles to the back of the hall. Digging into all of their music history Ride, played a little something from every release.

Ride let a wall of sound blast into everyone on the floor where you could not only hear the excellent songs but feel them.

I figured it would be good, I left feeling it was great, a top 5 concert.

Such an amazing show, loved hearing Vapour Trail, and Today live. Like a Daydream, Sennen, Chelsea Girl, and Dreams Burn Down were also highlights for me, really the whole concert. Seagull may have been the best song of the show, I like the song, but it was a different level live. One final note, Drive Blind was the single loudest song I have ever heard, it was so loud and there was so much sound with feedback and reverberations, it was almost like it was silent, crazy. Highly, highly recommend getting to see Ride live whenever you can!!

Absolutely brilliant gig shame about the bar.

I was not sure what to expect but they nailed it. More than once I was transported else where on a wall noise that shimmered and dazzled with beautiful textures and tones.

The only downside was that I missed the first couple of songs of the second set due to the bar not being able to cope with the volume of customers.

It was worth the the 300 mile round trip!

Opened with Leave Them All Behind and continued with mostly all their strong songs from their EPs and first two albums. Loz drumming was spot on and Andy and Mark showed their guitar work has never been better. Sound was boomy upstairs but better view. No one should miss this tour.

Small personal venue - it was awesome seeing Ride in such an intimate setting. Hadn't seen them in over 25 years but unlike most bands that reunite, they don't seem to have missed a beat. Great mixture of classics with the new stuff.

Fantastic show from start to finish. Great energy and they just sounded tight throughout. Highly recommend seeing them.

They can get very heavy at times, so bring earplugs and you'll be fine.

I cannot wait to see them again

Maid fights and acid: Dokken guitarist George Lynch on how Phoenix shaped Lynch Mob

ride band tour australia

When the members of Dokken went their separate ways in 1989, guitarist George Lynch didn’t waste any time getting back on his feet, auditioning players for a new group he called Lynch Mob at the Scottsdale Airport business center that same year.

“That's kind of where we formed,” Lynch says.

“We had kind of a worldwide search for band members. My idea was to build the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the history of the universe. And we put together the initial band with Oni Logan, (Dokken drummer) Mick Brown and Anthony Esposito.”

Lynch was living in Cave Creek, Arizona, at the time, and most of Lynch Mob’s earliest performances were on the local bar scene under an assumed name.

“We wanted to go out and test the waters,” Lynch recalls. “So we played some local venues just to kind of put the band out there and get our legs under us.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

"But we didn't want to announce our name yet. So we came up with a fake name. I don't know if you want to print this, but it was Gay Black Nazi Bikers for Christ.”

He laughs, then says, “I still have flyers to this day.”

Some people on the scene knew who they were and would show up to see the guitarist from Dokken.

Other people showed up and were disappointed, he says, with a laugh.

“Because, you know, that's kind of a lot to expect, right? We were raising expectations with that band name. But the club we played a lot to kind of get our bearings and our wings was the Mason Jar as sort of a test venue.”

What is George Lynch doing now?

Thirty-five years later, the latest edition of Lynch Mob will return to Arizona for a show on Thursday, May 16, presented by a longtime friend, Mike Gaube of Mike Gaube's Headbangers radio show, which airs on pickidaho.com , at another local bar, the Rhythm Room, as part of a farewell tour called the Final Ride.

Lynch is turning 70 this year and he’s been looking for an opportunity to “sunset the band" on a positive note.

“So I thought, OK, this last record we did, 'Babylon,' was worthy of an end cap to the story."

And this really is the end, he says.

“Unlike some other bands that go out and pretend to quit but then don't really quit, I wanted to let people know this is really a chance to see us one more time to say hello and say goodbye and experience a great version of the band.”

The current Lynch Mob lineup features drummer Jimmy D’Anda, bassist Jaron Gulino and lead singer Gabriel Colón.

“It's been sort of a revolving door over the past bunch of decades,” Lynch says. “But I'm very fortunate that this band is full of people that are very talented and very loving. We all love and respect each other and we have a blast. There’s nothing negative in this lineup. And I thought, well, this is a good way to go out.”

Concerts: Time is still on Mick Jagger's side as the Rolling Stones thrash State Farm Stadium

Lynch Mob's final tour leans heavily on 'Wicked Sensation'

As proud as Lynch is of that new release, the setlist on the final tour finds them leaning on songs from the first album, “Wicked Sensation,” which hit the charts at No. 46 in 1990, sending “River of Love” to No. 19 on the mainstream rock charts.

“That first record far and away is the one that defines us,” Lynch says. “I mean, that was our seminal record. We've gone through different periods with this band where we really tried to stretch out and make it more of just a canvas for everything I've done.”

Along the way, they’ve figured out what works.

“We do play some Dokken and a few things from our other albums, but primarily, 75% of our set is 'Wicked Sensation' because it's just such a pristine wall-to-wall record,” he says.

“And they're the most recognized Lynch Mob songs, the ones that people know. So there's not gonna be a big question mark above their heads when we're playing. That's important. We want to give the people what they want.”

After all, he says, those people coming out to see him play have made it possible for him to do this for a living.

“You need to honor that,” he says. “It’s like having a store selling one thing and the next day, you're selling some strange, weird new objects that nobody wants.”

Why did George Lynch leave Dokken?

Lynch Mob disbanded after touring on their second album, a self-titled effort released in 1992, clearing the way for a Dokken reunion that took place in 1994.

Lynch was living in Cave Creek when he came home from a 1997 tour with Dokken to a fax informing him that he’d been fired.

“I got a one-sentence fax,” the guitarist recalls. “No reason given and no explanation ever forthcoming from anyone in the band.”

What really hurt is that because they were a partnership, all three bandmates had to get behind the firing, including Brown and bassist Jeff Pilson.

“That was very hurtful,” Lynch says. “We had all come up together and grown up together and conquered the rock world together, so to speak.”

'Young Sheldon' finale: Here's how to watch the final episode and stream the whole series

George Lynch still performs at Dokken concerts

Despite ongoing friction between the guitarist and Don Dokken, who often share unflattering remarks about each other in the music press while telling very different versions of events, Lynch still makes frequent guest appearances at Dokken shows, coming out at the end of the concert to play a few songs.

“I'm a water-under-the-bridge guy,” he says. “That's just the way I'm built. I have very few people in my life that I hold permanent grudges towards."

He doesn’t see a full Dokken reunion in the cards, though.

“I would only come back if it was an equal split,” he says. “We all worked equally hard. We all contributed equally. We’ve had plenty of offers, on the touring and recording level. And they've been pretty decent, substantial offers. But it always falls apart because one person in particular wants the lion's share. And that's not that's not acceptable. So it probably will never happen.”

What is George Lynch doing next?

Lynch says he plans to keep working with Pilson in the End Machine, a band that also features Mick Brown’s brother, Steve.

Mick Brown is retired and lives in Arizona.

“And his brother is his clone,” Lynch says. “It's unbelievable. I mean, everything from the way he plays to the way he talks, his sense of humor, his facial expressions, his body language, it's surreal.”

They’ve released three albums as the End Machine and plan to keep that going in what Lynch calls a limited way.

“I mean, we're not gonna get in a van and tour the country the hard way,” he says. “But if it makes sense? That's the big question. It has to make sense.”

George Lynch's 'young and dumb' adventures in Phoenix

Lynch hasn’t lived in Cave Creek since the ‘90s.

“I loved it,” he says. “But as I got older, I couldn't handle the summers any longer. It broke my heart to move away because I really love the high Sonoran Desert. Once it gets under your skin, you're addicted.”

He looks back fondly on the years he lived in Arizona.

“We had a lot of interesting rock band adventures,” he says, with a laugh. “Just crazy stuff guys do when you're in a rock band and you're young and dumb.”

“Well, we all took acid and went on a vision quest, so to speak, of our own making,” he says, with a laugh.

“I thought that would expand our creative abilities or something, give us insights or whatever. And that didn't go well. I ended up in the hospital and all our vehicles ended up ankle-deep in the desert somewhere. It was a pretty outrageous night.”

On another occasion, the members of Lynch Mob were having drinks with their girlfriends and wives at a bar connected to a big hotel resort near the Scottsdale airport when a fight broke out involving some off-duty maids.

“I guess they were there to blow off some steam,” Lynch recalls.

“They all had their maid outfits on. I guess some of them confronted one of our girlfriends or wives in the women's bathroom. And that turned into a fight, which turned into the maids beating the (expletive) out of us.”

Lynch laughs at the memory.

“So we got our (expletives) kicked by a bunch of maids,” he says. “Our drummer ended up getting swung around by his hair and thrown into a pot with a big palm tree or something in it. It looked like a Marx Brothers movie."

George Lynch looks back (with regret) on his days as a bodybuilder

It was while living in Cave Creek that he became obsessed with bodybuilding.

“I was going through a very difficult divorce,” he says.

“And I was in the gym anyways so I just started to get deeper and deeper into the cult of the bodybuilding world through friends that I was working out with. One thing led to another and I eventually got into steroid use and was competing.”

It did help him through his divorce.

“It propped me up to where I could get through some very, very difficult things,” he says.

But physically? It took its toll.

“The consequences of doing those drugs are bad and long-term,” Lynch says. “So you pay the price for that.”

It even affected his playing.

“That’s one of the reasons I stopped,” he says.

“It's not the only reason but I started having static cramps in my forearms and hands, where I'd be playing live and all of a sudden, my muscles would cramp up on my left forearm and I couldn't even articulate my fingers,” he says.

“And it's like what's the point of doing this if it's impeding the thing that you do that defines who you are. I mean, that was ridiculous. So it obviously was not a good idea.”

There were other downsides.

“There were times when I'd be at a bodybuilding show in some little frickin’ Speedo and some guy would be making fun of me, reciting Dokken lyrics while I'm up there posing in a frickin' T-back,” he says. “I mean, come on! Talk about a cringe memory. Oh my God. What the hell was I thinking?”

George Lynch says he'll miss the camaraderie of Lynch Mob

As the Final Ride Tour makes its way to the land of Lynch Mob’s birth, the guitarist says it's going to be hard to walk away.

“My bands have always been my friends,” he says. “And even more than friends, it's like a band of brothers.

"I mean, we're not going off to war and killing people. But we're overcoming obstacles and living with each other and sharing our humor and our lives. And we know everything about each other. It's just a beautiful thing. And that's really been the case since I was in my mid-teens.

"All my band members have always been my best friends. So that's gonna be the hardest thing, to lose that camaraderie and all that comes with that. It's the greatest job in the world. I'll miss that.”
