My trip to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

I was supposed to have a tour this upcoming Sunday at Northern Blossom Flower Farm but the tour coordinator told me this past Thursday that the event was canceled because there were not enough joiners. So, I felt very sad because I want to go to someplace that I’ve never been before.

On Saturday afternoon while I was scrolling on my Facebook newsfeed, I saw someone posted a Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar day tour event this upcoming Sunday. So I immediately messaged the person who posted the event and I asked for the itinerary and other details for that event. Then she immediately replied through a personal message and I saw that the itinerary and budget for that tour were perfect for my money and time. For this reason, I joined the day tour event and she added me to the group chat.

It was Sunday at around 3:47 am when I arrived at our pick-up destination in front of Hotel Sogo – EDSA Guadalupe. After that our van started heading towards our main destination in the province of Bataan. Around 5:33 am we have a quick stopover at the Mini Mart & Pharmacy in Balanga to pee and buy some snacks.

Later we have another stopover at McDonald’s Balanga Highway around 6 am to have a heavy breakfast. While having breakfast, one group member asked me why are you alone? no one will take pictures of you. For a moment, I think she is right, being a solo joiner is so hard. All of my pictures will be selfies, haha. Just kidding, I will find out when the tour is over. In addition, one girl told me that I don’t have a date at Las Casas, then the driver of the van told her that he will look for a date there, inside my mind I am laughing so hard.

Umagol River

Anyway, we continued heading towards Las Casas around 6:33 am after our breakfast. It was 7:10 am when we arrived at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar registration point where visitors can ask questions about the overnight rate and day tour rate. Then we explore the place and I feel stunned by what I saw. I feel like I was riding a time machine and was transported back to the Spanish colonial era. In addition, all angles and every corners are so Instagrammable and so beautiful. For this reason I take many selfies and we have our group picture taken at one of the houses with a view of the century heritage house and the picturesque Umagol River.

solo picture beside the jeepney

At 7:53 am we ride a jeep and we have a great view of the surroundings including the beachfront and the Lola Basyang bridge. The driver of the jeep dropped our group near the church and heritage house. After that we explore the place and we take pictures in front of the church and the riverside even though at that time it was raining. Then we have a walking tour guide of some of the historical houses in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar aroud 8:20 am.

Diana has been introduced to us and she is our walking tour guide. She immediate told our group about the brief history, and origin of the word Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. After that she told us that we need to left our slippers and shoes before climbing the stairs of Casa Biñan Laguna which is originally constructed in the year 1700 and it’s owned by Don Gregorio Alonzo. A few moments later, she told our group that the Casa Biñan house was one of the shooting places in the popular drama television series “Ang Probinsyano”. According to her Alonzo house contain about ten percent of its original structure that been left including a mirror, stairs, ceiling and small wooden bed.

the view at Casa Biñan

Later we explored the other heritage house in Las Casas, and I noticed that the house is so wide and so historical. She even told our group that this house contains CCTV. We couldn’t believe it and she pointed us to the cctv camera that was used during the Spanish colonial period and it’s called cctv-silip, haha now I know. After that we go outside and I saw the old tramvia and I was amazed. I feel like I’m in a different setting.

picture taking at tramvia inside Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

Then we go inside the Casa Binondo or Casa Byzantina which was built during 1890. It is where Vice Ganda showcases the wonderful three storey structure of the house in her Youtube vlog. According to Diana, the rental overnight rate in this house is 169000 pesos a night. We were very surprised by the price. So we have a group picture taken at the heritage house.

group picture at Casa Binondo

After that we go outside again, at this time while I was walking one member of the group told me where is your bag? and I realized that I didn’t have a bag with me so I felt nervous and I go back to one of the houses that we passed by and fortunately I’m still young and I easily remember the exact place where I left my bag during the picture taking. Later Diana explained to us the life of aliping sagigilid at aliping namamahay before the arrival of Spanish in the Philippines. From my perspective Las Casas is a larger version of Intramuros and it takes me back to the old glory days of Manila.

view at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

She takes us to one of the old houses and we see a variety of old artifacts that were used during that time such as the charcoal iron, plantsa de paa or foot press. It’s a nice feeling reminiscing those old houses while walking, the way they were built and the old furnitures and materials intricately crafted it was so reviving and informative. Without a doubt, we enjoyed visiting the old houses in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar that re-sited and restored for tourism, educational and historical purpose such as Casa Biñan Laguna, Casa New Manila, Casa San Juan (Batangas), Casa Quiapo Manila, Casa Binondo, Casa Unisan and Casa Cagayan.

Later she explained to us the natural river that is situated in the middle of Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar which connects to West Philippine Sea. According to her, the water from the Umagol River is natural because it came from the towering Mt. Natib and other mountains in Bataan. The walking guided tour last for around one hour and twenty minutes.

After that we have a tramvia ride that takes us to the mesmerizing walkway and beachfront and I enjoyed every minute that passes by. We even take few souvenir videos of this amazingly huge tourist attraction. Afterwards, we have a horse-drawn carriage tour. According to our witty guide, Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar have a total land area of 400 hectares which contain 63 heritage houses. Also he informed us that Las Casas was once a rice paddy in the past decades before it was developed. Then he pointed to us the Saint Joseph Cathedral which is the replica church in Balanga, Bataan. Also he told our group that Lola Basyang is not a female gender.

selfie

Later we waited for the balsa to come to our place. While waiting we took solo pictures of the beautiful river and surrounding of Las Casas. While some of the group members attend church in Saint Joseph Cathedral.

overlooking view at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

We ride a balsa around 11 am and John Robert our balsa operator was introduced to us. According to him, the depth of the water in the river can go as high as eight feet if its high tide. However, since it’s low tide today the depth of the river is only five feet so we don’t worry about getting drowned when something misfortunate happens. When he told us about this kind of thing, the other members who are below five feet is laughing so hard. Then I noticed that there’s also an available umbrella to use while having a balsa tour, even though no one use it, maybe because it will only distract the enchanting view and capture beautiful moments.

While having a balsa tour, I feel like I’m in a different country because it is so nostalgic. From my perpsective the balsa tour in Las Casas is much better and first-class compared to the gondola ride in Venice Grand Canal Mall in Taguig City because of the dazzling 360 degree view of the surroundings. For this reason, I told myself that I just wanna live in this moment forever. Then our group drops off at one of the heritage house and we can see the gigantic Tarak Ridge to our right side and Mt. Natib to the other side. In addition we can also see the soaring cross of Mt. Samat in the second floor of the house. For this reason, we take fierce solo and group pictures with the background of the natural river, old houses and mountains.

the view while having balsa ride

We have three stopovers while having a balsa ride and many of the places that we saw is super incredible. To be honest, I never thought that this kind of place exists in the Philippines because of its heritage and culture, it’s past history and fantastic ambiance. I love all the structures that I saw. Anyway, our balsa last for forty-five minutes and it ended around 11:47 am. We thank John Robert for this very significant balsa ride tour.

reenactment show

After our balsa tour we watch a reenactment show featuring the very notable history that happens during the Spanish colonial period in the Philippines such as KKK (Katipunan) and its revolutionary operations. At this time, I saw a handful of Belgian and American tourist watching the re-enactment of Katipunan and I told myself that Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is so very popular with international tourist. Then we have our set lunch at Hotel de Oriente past 12 pm. Their food is good and we have a short conversation while having lunch.

After our lunch we explored the museum at Hotel de Oriente and I found out that the hotel is strikingly admirable and so gorgeous. Later we headed toward the beachfront to capture some remarkable pictures of the vast West Philippine Sea and to see a different angle at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. Also we take individual photos at the tulay ni Lola Basyang. The weather is so good and we have definitely a quality time to relax and enjoy the great view.

viewing at Hotel De Oriente

Then we rode a jeep and while riding I noticed that the lighting and famous walkway at night is still not complete and its still under construction. For this reason, I told myself that I will go back to this place to have an overnight stay to see the sunset and sunrise. We leave Las Casas at 2 pm and we have happy hearts and memories that will last a lifetime. Indeed, I’m so joyful and grateful to be part of this unforgettable trip. From the beautiful houses, bridges, architectural structures, and beautiful heritage, all I can say is wow. I’m so speechless. Thanks be to God for another safe and enjoyable trip to Bataan province.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar Day Tour – Thoughts and Tips

by Iza Sanchez ·

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

Some of these mansions are replicas, but most are originals collected from various provinces of the Philippines. These “casas,” the Spanish word for “houses,” were carefully dismantled to preserve their antiquity. Then, following a meticulous process, each brick, tile, plank, door, and window made the long journey to Bagac, Bataan where they were reassembled to create what is now known as Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

The site was conceptualized by Mr. Jerry Acuzar, a businessman and developer whose passion for historical architecture had prompted him to build a site dedicated to Philippine-Spanish architecture and heritage. Many of the houses originated from Pampanga province. Others came from various places like Nueva Ecija, Meycauyan, Tuguegarao, and old Manila.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

Most of the casas were named after the provinces or towns they originated from such as, Casa Baliuag, Casa Binan, Casa Escolta, and Casa Binondo. Translated to English Las Casas Filipinas means “Philippine houses.”

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

Because of the delicate work required on such a project, it took several years to construct. Initial work began in the year 2003 but the site was only opened to the public in 2010. It is a work in progress and to this day, additional villas and mansions are still being relocated.

Also, developments are underway on a few beach-front hotels and the Sanctuario de San Jose or Church of Saint Joseph, a venerated Christian saint.

Walking Tours

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

To fully appreciate the old mansions it’s essential to join at least one walking tour. There are several tours scheduled throughout the day starting at 8:30 a.m. They run for 1.5 hours and are led by guides who can tell the story of each casa by heart.

During the tour, visitors are allowed to enter some casas which normally are not open to the public. These include Casa Binan and Casa Baliuag. The guides share valuable insights about the origin, forgotten history, and often shocking controversies surrounding each casa. Tours are conducted in both Tagalog and English.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

INSIDE CASA BINAN

Casa Binan was the historical home of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal. It is one of the major attractions at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. There were efforts to relocate the original house in Binan, Laguna, however, local protesters intervened. As a result the project was cancelled. Unfortunately, in 2009 the original Casa Binan was destroyed by Typhoon Ondoy. Now, only its replica which is composed of only 1% of the original house survives.

Where to Eat

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

There are three restaurants in the vicinity that serve a variety of Philippine and international food. They are quite pricey though. Unfortunately, there are no cheaper alternatives since the site is located on a peninsula at the far end of a small village.

Moreover, during non-peak hours menu options are limited. It can take between 30-45 minutes for meals to be served. If possible, try to place your order in advance.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar (96)

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is not just a treat for culture vultures, it’s also perfect for sun seekers. Fronting Bagac Bay, guests can enjoy some beach time after exploring the mansions. If you arrive at the site early, you can do the walking tour in the morning, then lounge by the beach in the afternoon.

Getting Around

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

A free shuttle goes around the site which is very convenient since it gets quite hot by midday. The jeepney makes its rounds continuously and the waiting time is between 5 to 10 minutes.

Check out these Bataan travel guides for more info on the coolest attractions and things to do in the province

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

Touring Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar takes you back to 18th century Philippines. A period both fascinating and complicated, marked by extreme class systems, distorted religious ideologies, and a social awakening that led to the birth of a new and independent nation, the Philippines.

If Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is your next stop, remember the tips above to make the most of your historical adventure.

Hi, thanks a lot. I’m really glad you found the information helpful. Have a great trip.

' src=

You mentioned that meals are expensive. Are visitors not allowed to bring their own packed meals or snacks? We are planning to visit the place real soon.

Hello, yes food and drinks are strictly prohibited according to an email I got from a reservations staff. I wouldn’t say it’s a strictly implemented rule though. However if you’re thinking of a picnic by the beach, It’s very likely you’ll be called out for it. But just to be sure I suggest call their reservations office and verify (63 2) 332 5286 or (63 2) 355 3032. Hope that helps.

The reservation number is a private number . Not las casas. Las casas numbers on website do not pick up. Quite ridiculous. No way to book a tour

Table of Contents

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar History

Jose Acuzar, Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar owner, initially bought a 400-hectare property in Bagac. Growing up in the quiet province of Bataan, the place has been special to him. This is where he started rebuilding heritage mansions being an ardent antique and arts collector. He would buy pieces and parts of old houses. Each of the architectural treasures acquired was transported from different places in the Philippines.

Finally in 2010, the heritage park was opened to the public. Today, Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is one of the favorite resorts in Bataan preserving 63 heritage homes.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar Day Tour

If you have limited time, Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar day tour may be suitable for you. Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is a Bataan tourist spot in itself, going around the property is surely a feast for the eyes. Most spots are truly photogenic, or as what they would say, instagrammable.

For a Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar day tour, you will only need to pay an entrance fee (PHP 999 NET for Bataan resident) that already includes a one-hour walking heritage tour.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar Walking Heritage Tour

Aside from the houses, you can sight the original UP Fine Arts building in the place. If you’re a history buff, it’s really wonderful to explore the different structures. Fortunately, the guided heritage tour is included even if you only avail the Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar day tour.

Original UP Fine Arts Building

If you can stay overnight and opt for more than just a Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar day tour, you will get to experience a unique kind of accommodation.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar Accommodations

For our overnight stay, we stayed at Paseo de Escolta on the second floor. The room was really lovely. Antique furniture decorated the place that gave both a historic and Spanish vibe.

Paseo de Escolta Accommodation

The room was also very clean and spacious. Our huge bathroom was complete with toiletries. The only distraction we got was some noise from other visitors, especially those climbing at the third floor, since the room was made from wooden walls.

Batis-Inspired Pool

The batis-inspired pool really looks unique. It is shallow at four-feet deep. Plunging into its clean waters is not only relaxing but it also has a very stunning view.

Batis-Inspired Pool

To get to the beach, you have to cross a beautiful bridge. You can even sight the locals going on their usual day like fishing.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar Restaurant

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar has several restaurants. We were able to try Cafe Marivent. Like their accommodations, Cafe Marivent exhibited a Spanish ambiance. Serving as the resort’s all-day dining restaurant, it offers international cuisines. Food was a little pricey as you might expect but it was delectable and in ample serving.

Fotograpia de Escolta and Souvenir Shop

One souvenir you can have is a photograph of you taken at Fotograpia de Escolta where you can wear a traditional Filipino costume. They also have their own souvenir shop where you can buy pasalubong . Make sure to visit them even if you’re only availing the Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar day tour.

Hi Riane, we’re planning to visit in January 2023 with a group of friends for a day tour. How much is the entrance fee per pax and does it still include consumables? The last time I visited it cost us more because we did not book online. Looking forward for a response.

Thank you, Normie

LAS CASAS FILIPINAS DE ACUZAR: DIY Day Tour Budget Travel Guide + Itinerary & Why You Need To See It At Least Once

Don’t you just love the idea of travelling back in time? Have you not wished for that illusive chance to maybe make up for your mistakes and lost opportunities in the past or to warn yourself about the future? Have you not once wondered what was it like back then when other than the birds and the clouds, nothing else would be seen dotting the blue skies. That instead of skyscrapers lighting up the night, there were billions of tiny little stars? If you have a time machine or if time travel is as simple as boarding on that plane with tickets you snagged from last year’s sale or travel expo, where would you go?

Had I been asked this question, I would have answered “The 18th Century Philippines” in a snap. And why not? Our precious homeland has so much to offer when it comes to culture, history and natural resources. It has evolved to being a melting pot of various cultures from our Western invaders to the nearby Asian territories we traded with. The Philippines was once glorified in the world and was one of the richest, according to history at least, which we all know is flawed that it all the more ignites my desire to know the truth behind the heroes and heroines our generation is looking up to today. More importantly other than unraveling the secrets of our country’s guarded past, I wanna bear witness to that time when our culture was at its most vibrant.

I don’t know if you get that same feeling of nostalgia that I get whenever I see old colonial houses and churches or if you find so much beauty in those rustic heritage villages in Lipa  and Pila. It’s not just the nostalgic vibe or the intricacy of architecture that gets me every time. It’s that feeling of being taken back in the past, of having a vision of what was it like back then. I remember while walking in the cobblestone street of Calle Crisologo in Vigan  when I felt like I was instantly taken 200 years back. The dimly lit streets, the sound of horse’s shoes reverberating and the faint laughter of people as seen from their windows seemed like a scene in a historic movie or book where I walk past a mansion having cheerful banquet of men and women dressed elegantly in their barong and baro’t saya . These things are just why I am glad to have known about Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar.

Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar is an otherworldly resort in Bataan. It is like no other, a one of its kind. It will instantly take you back to the forgotten era of our heroes. Set in a vast property fronting the beach, the resort showcases architectural pieces from different parts of the country which were carefully assembled brick by brick. It is the perfect place to immerse in the mesmerizing time of our country’s past and simply admire the beauty and wonder of 18th century architecture. Not only that the resort is a beguiling sight but it also has a lot of things in store for your leisure and relaxation. Plus, going here doesn’t have to eat up your time. A day tour may be short of a time to take in the beauty that it is but an entire weekend would suffice for that matter and going here is fairly easy as it is just 3 hours away from Manila. One thing I have to warn you though. This treasure may not fit your usually cheap budget.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE GOING THERE (Day Tour)

  • Although Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar has not clearly stated whether or not a reservation is required when going on a day tour, I suggest that you take time to book in advance to avoid hassle.
  • If you smoke, you probably wanna bring with you a pack or two of cigarettes since none is sold in the resort. If there is, it may be pretty expensive. Know as well that smoking is only allowed in designated areas within the resort.
  • Consider bringing your own snacks and packed lunch if you wanna keep everything within budget. Although there are 3 restaurants within the resort that serve great food, they are kind of expensive at P400-500 a meal per person.
  • To make the resort more satisfying to the eye, some parts of it are still under renovation. Also there are other new heritage houses which aren’t completed yet and still under construction.
  • Balanga is a non-smoking town that selling of cigarettes is also prohibited.
  • There are eateries near Balanga Terminal if you need to grab a bite before heading to Las Casas. There are also McDonald’s and Jollibee stores nearby.

TIPS FOR THOSE GOING ON A DAY TOUR

  • Day tour fee during our travel was only P999 which includes heritage tour, warm towel, a bottle of water, free use amenities, beach and the pool. We got it at a discounted price of P799. As of writing, I heard day tour fee to the resort has now increased to P1500
  • Wear comfortable footwear since you will be walking within the vast resort for an hour or two under the heat of the sun depending on the time you would choose to do the tour.
  • Don’t forget to hydrate. Always have a bottle of water in tow.hg
  • Protect your skin and put on hats and sunblock to guard you from the sun.
  • And your clothes? Put on your best travel clothes and accessories but don’t ever compromise comfort.
  • Bring extra clothes as you might as well want to experience the beach or the pool or both or if not, you probably will be sweating during the tour so you might want to freshen up before heading out.
  • If you are taking public transpo when going there, consider going there early morning. Start your travel as early as 4AM as you might get caught with too many passengers trying to get home to their provinces. Also don’t stay too late as the last bus trip from Bagac to Manila is leaving exactly 8PM.

HOW TO GO THERE

Ride a bus in Cubao (5-Star/Genesis) to Balanga, Bataan (2-3hrs ; P200). Alight in Balanga Terminal. On the same terminal, ride a jeep going to Bagac (1hr ; P50). Ask the driver if he can take you directly to Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar for an additional P25. If not, alight in the junction going to the resort and hire a tricycle to take you there (P100/Tric for 4pax).

Lake at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

Overnight stay at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan

If you want to discover more about the history and culture of the Philippines — or simply want to have a pleasant tour a few hours away from Manila, then you should consider visiting Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is a 400-hectare heritage site located in Bagac — and one of the best tourist attractions in Bataan Province . It features over 20 heritage houses from the Spanish Colonial Period, including restored originals and replicas. This includes the home of Jose Rizal, the national hero of the country. It also offers guided tours and traditional activities, such as kalesa rides.

I visited here with my Hali and my family in the summer of 2019. Here’s our overnight stay plus a guide on how you can get here too!

Our staycation in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

How to get to las casas filipinas de acuzar, things to do in las casas, where to eat, las casas filipinas de acuzar rates, travel tips, book your stay, what to read next:.

We went here for an overnight stay. My sister booked rooms for us. (Thank you for the libre! :p) Most people opt for a day trip in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar and I rarely read blogs about overnight stays, so I was curious what it would be like.

Las Casas offers various options for accommodation, including hotel rooms and private casas. We booked deluxe rooms, which are good for small groups.

In line with the resort’s traditional Filipino-Spanish architecture, our room has that old-time ambiance — we had huge wooden cabinets, lamps with warm lighting, a ceiling with intricate design, a spacious bathroom with its own bath tub, and a veranda that looks out over the canal where we could sometimes see tour boats passing by.

I was very happy to know that modern conveniences are fitted in — we had soft, comfortable beds and airconditioning which is badly needed especially during the summer. We were also given complimentary items including coffee packets and cup noodles, toiletries and slippers.

Outside our room, there’s an alfresco table where we could hang out.

Deluxe room in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

As you can probably tell, I like our deluxe room. Las Casas has done a good job in blending the old with modern-day necessities so we could enjoy both worlds. I also like that they didn’t scrimp on complimentary items — the food and slippers are convenient add-ons especially considering that exploring the resort can be tiring.

Of course, we made use of our time and we explored the heritage resort. One thing that surprised me about Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is how big it is. There’s a giant man-made lake in the middle of the resort and accommodations are located in “islands”. The old town where you can go on a guided tour is located in a different area of the resort.

Kat in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

These places are still within walking distance of each other, but there are also trams that guests can use to get around easily. Basically, it’s easy to spend a whole morning or afternoon just exploring the entirety of the resort.

Park in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

Hali and I arrived a bit late, so we missed the schedule for the guided tour, but my family managed to go in one. What we did instead is take a leisurely stroll across the grounds to see the old houses and stores, swim in the pools, and checked out the beach. Hali enjoyed the newly opened Inflatable Island in the beach area. My family also went to do other activities such as riding the kalesa and playing in the game room, where there are sports such as table tennis.

Traditional Filipino house at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, Bataan

Even though we arrived at 12 noon and left the following day on the same hour, it still wasn’t enough to experience all the activities offered in Las Casas. My sister wanted to watch traditional games such as labanan ng gagamba and join workshops even, but we just didn’t have time.

I guess I was used to seeing people going to Las Casas to go on a guided tour and take photos for Instagram that I didn’t realize there’s more to do here than that.

Kat in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

We had a pleasant stay in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. If there’s something that I didn’t like, it’s the expensive food. I believe that “resort price” is often reasonable, but I think in this case it’s just really overpriced. We dined in at Cafe del Rio, and our budget was P400-500 per person. The serving was regular, the taste & quality is ordinary, and there’s nothing to justify that price. However, our complimentary breakfast buffet was good — there’s a lot of options such as salads, rice meals, kakanin, and various fruits, which was a consolation for the ridiculous dinner price tag that we had.

Overall, we had a positive experience during our overnight stay in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. Moreover, I will recommend it especially if you want to have more time to explore and experience the various activities offered in the resort.

From Manila, travel time to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan takes about 3 hours.

  • From Cubao, board a bus en route to Balanga (P200, 2.5-3 hours) and get off at the bus terminal. Then, take a jeep to Baga (~P50, 45 minutes) and tell the driver to drop you off the tricycle terminal where there are services going to Las Casas.
  • From there, ride a tricycle to Las Casas (P100 for 4 people).

Take note that the Genesis bus en route back to Manila has its last trip at 7PM.

Here are the free things you can do in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar.

Here are some things to note:

  • Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is a popular day tour destination from Manila. For a day trip, a safe budget would be P2500 per person. For overnight stay, it depends on the room you’re booking.
  • The restaurants inside the resort are on the expensive side. Allot around P400-500 per person for the food.

We booked a deluxe room for an overnight stay. I honestly think it’s a good deal considering all the inclusions. To maximize our time, we came in the resort early (past lunch time) and left our bags at the reception area so we can do a guided tour before check-in time.

We came here in 2019 and our budget per person is around P3000-3500. This includes private transport, accommodation, and food (P400-500 per person). Breakfast is complimentary so we only bought dinner.

Here are some tips before visiting Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar:

  • Prepare for a walkathon. Wear comfortable, easy-to-remove footwear. During guided tours, you’ll be asked to enter houses barefooted.
  • Keep hydrated and bring a bottle of water with you.
  • Take note of the schedule of guided tours so you can effectively plan your schedule.
  • If you’re going on an overnight stay like us, I recommend having your lunch first before heading to  Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. There are cheap eateries near Balanga Terminal. There are also fast-food restaurants such as Jollibee and McDonalds nearby.

For overnight stays, you can book discounted rooms here .

QUICK GUIDE: Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar Heritage Resort, Bataan

bataan heritage tour price

2014 • 07 • 26

It’s like going back in time with Spanish colonial architecture lining the beachfront in this quaint town of Bagac, Bataan. Las Casas De Acuzar Heritage Resort is a cultural and leisure park where fully-restored heritage houses called bahay na bato  create a focal point to a unique beach-going experience.

W1a

The bahay na bato (stone house) was a symbol of affluence during the Spanish era. 27 stone houses that survived hundreds of years were transported from their original location across Luzon to this resort. Each has a unique story to tell and has varying levels of cultural importance, but they all stand proud as a testament to heritage conservation.

W1c

The beach comes to life with an overabundance of attractions and activities. Classic Pinoy games are played alongside volleyball matches. A mamang sorbetero steers his cart along the cobblestone streets to the delight of the young-at-heart while the adult crowd are huddled near the beach bar. For a moment, all these festivities come to a pause to witness a very glorious sunset. The energy takes up again, this time around a bonfire where families and barkadas gather and roast marshmallows.

Beach essentials. Don’t forget to bring a blanket to lie on!

For that eclectic mix of past and present fancies, Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar Heritage Resort is a must-visit!

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is the Philippines’ first-ever heritage resort located in Bagac, Bataan. It is also one of the most unique hotels in the Philippines .

This 400-hectare picturesque luxury resort in the Philippines showcases over 30 heritage homes from different parts of the Philippines fully-restored brick-by-brick to their glory days, making it one of the popular Bataan tourist destinations. Pet parents will be happy to note that it is also one of the pet friendly resorts near Manila .

This living museum actually started with just one restored casa (house), the Casa Cagayan.

This traditional Filipino home dates back to the early 1900s and served as the family vacation home of Jose Acuzar, the resort’s owner.

Since then, Acuzar started buying and even salvaging fragments of old, abandoned houses all over the country. He transported them to his riverfront property in Bataan and started renovating them.

Here are some of the top things you can do when on a  Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar day tour .

Feel the cool but rough exteriors of Casa Vyzantina, a traditional Bahay na Bato (house made of stone).

Step into the replica of the opulent Hotel De Oriente, the Philippines’ first luxury hotel in Binondo.

You can also take a panoramic shot of the stunning Paseo Escolta, which pays tribute to the one buzzing business center of Escolta in Manila.

Witness a Live Kundiman and Folk Dance Performance

A kundiman is a genre of traditional love songs in the Philippines.

You can enjoy a lavish dinner under the stars while a live kundiman band serenades you with age-old Filipino songs like Paruparong Bukid and Leron, Leron Sinta.

Resort employees and groups of local students perform Filipino folk dances such as singkil and tinikling. It’s an amazing cultural and dining experience that you should include in your itinerary.

Oddly-shaped and with big, smooth rocks adorning one of the pool’s edges, this pool takes inspiration from typical batis (creek, or small pond) that you can find in the province.

Unlike typical pools that have intricate or simple tile designs at the bottom, the batis-inspired swimming pool has an uneven, slightly rough floor that adds to its rustic feel.

Hidden Coves at Five Fingers in Mariveles, Bataan

Mariveles, Bataan is getting a lot of social media attention thanks to its cove-to-cove hopping. Aptly named Five Fingers, these hidden coves and points look like five fingers on the Bataan map.

The word “cochino” means pig in Spanish. Cochino’s Point is the first stop where a short but challenging 20-minute trek will give you beautiful views of the cliffs, sea, hills, and the majestic Mt. Mariveles.

Cochino’s Point has a secret cave that’s ideal for cooling off after that challenging trek.

If you’ve always wanted to try cliff jumping, you’ll love the second stop of the Five Fingers cove-to-cove hopping.

Talaga Point’s 20-foot cliff is ideal for an adrenaline-pumping cliff jump that will lead you to the Natsu Lagoon. The world natsu means summer in Japanese.

Talaga’s Point is also home to the Apatot Cove’s beach, aptly named because of the abundance of apatot trees in the area. It’s a perfect spot for beach swimming.

Also called Puntang Mahaba, Hornos Point is the longest of the five “fingers” where you can find the Pebble Cave, a famous spot for prenuptial photos.

Hornos Point is where you’ll find the stairway-like formations of the Nagmandala Rock with clear and inviting surrounding waters.

The “ring finger” (fourth finger) is called Naiklec Point, which is the home of the Mawakis Cove. Majority of the Five Fingers cove-to-cove tours stop here for a late lunch or snack.

This last stop is famous for its 40-ft cliff jump found at the Tinanlakan Lagoon. The Longos Kawayan Point has a lunch area for tour participants as well as a beach camping site at the Aglaloma Beach.

The fifth finger is also the home of the Nagbintana Arch rock formation and the Latain Point, an ophiolite rock formation.

Mt. Samat Shrine of Valor in Bataan

Located at the peak of Mt. Samat in Pilar, Bataan, the Shrine of Valor is probably the most important and recognizable World War II site in the Bataan map.

Also called the Dambana ng Kagitingan, the Shrine of Valor is a memorial cross that pays tribute to the heroism of the Filipino and American troops when the Japanese army attacked the Philippines during the said war.

  • Read our article on road trip destinations near Manila

The memorial cross is 301-feet tall and features the bas reliefs of the country’s national heroes: Dr. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Antonio Luna, Lapu Lapu, and Gabriela Silang to name a few.

The stunning sculptures also include key historical events of the Philippines, including the execution of Dr. Jose Rizal and the Battle of Bataan.

Collectively, the sculptures are called Nabiag Nga Bato, which means “living stone” in the local dialect of Ilocano.

Visitors can enjoy the majestic views of Manila Bay and the Bataan Peninsula at memorial cross’ viewing deck. This site is often combined with other Bataan tourist attractions in a heritage tour of Bataan .

Hatchlings at the Pawikan Conservation Center in Bataan

The Pawikan Conservation Center is one of the Morong, Bataan tourist spots and is a safe haven for Philippine pawikan (sea turtle). The species face several threats yearly, including egg gathering, poaching, illegal fishing, and slaughter.

  • Book a 2D1N Bataan package with Playa La Caleta Resort

The conservation center provides protection as well as facilities for hatching and healing.

It’s best to visit during the months of August until February when the female turtles make their way to the shore to lay eggs.

During this peak season, locals and tourists would take turns patrolling the shores to protect the eggs and even watch them hatch.

In November, during the week-long Pawikan Festival, you can witness a ritual wherein they release the turtle hatchlings back into the sea. It’s a unique experience that you can experience during a Bataan tour.

Located in Orani, about 40 minutes from the Bataan Highway, the Bataan National Park is the last remaining closed-canopy dipterocarp forest in the whole Central Luzon.

It’s the home of several wildlife species including giant fruit bats, wild monkeys, wild boars, civet cats, eagles, and pygmy woodpeckers.

Thousands of fruit-bearing trees, including coffee, jackfruit, guyabano, and lanzones.

Covering about 23,688 hectares, the Bataan National Park is also the home of two majestic falls, the Pasukulan, and the Dunsulan Falls.

If you want to spend time with nature, this is one of the places to visit in Bataan, particularly during sunset.

Strategically located at the back of the Balanga Elementary School, the Bataan World War II Museum is the go-to place to learn about the province’s participation in the world event.

The museum houses war memorabilia and dioramas, particularly those from the infamous Bataan Death March in 1942, wherein thousands of Filipino and American soldiers marched nearly 69.6 miles from Bataan to Tarlac.

As the name suggests, thousands died during this horrible event. Take a short walk inside the Balanga Elementary School grounds and you’ll find the Surrender Site Marker.

It features a life-size statue of Major General Edward P. King Jr. and his party as they make a painful decision. Today, the marker is a painful reminder of what transpired in the province during the not-so-distant war.

International bird watchers, tourists, and locals are flocking to the Balanga Wetland and Nature Park to see migratory birds in their natural habitat.

The park is one of the notable Balanga, Bataan tourist spots and has recorded about 35 species and 15 bird families, thanks to the city’s wetlands, mudflats, and mangrove forests. The best time to catch these birds in action is early in the morning.

The historic Ruins of World War II at Corregidor Island near Bataan

You can walk among the ruins, check out the tunnels and cannons, and even go ghost-hunting if you’re brave enough. This and other historical places in Bataan is included in many Bataan tours.

During the Bataan Death March, the troops marched from Bataan all the way to Capas, Tarlac. Today, these Zero KM Markers are marked with an obelisk as well as a bayonet with a soldier’s helmet thrust into the ground.

A zero kilometer (km) or mile marker is used as control points to measure distances.

Bataan has two Zero KM Markers because the bloody Bataan Death March in 1942 kicked off from two points in the province: from Mariveles on April 10 and from Bagac in April.

Also known as the Japan-Philippines Friendship Tower, this towering symbol of reconciliation and peace is strategically located 10 minutes away from the Zero KM Marker in Bagac, Bataan.

It was built in 1975 by a Japanese Buddhist organization, Kosei Kai Group. The white structure stands 27-meter tall and features a Buddhist bell and three pillars that are connected by multi-layer rings.

Sometimes called the Bagac Friendship Bell, the structure is a fitting reminder of the renewed friendship between the Philippines and Japan.

This historical landmark in Pilar, Bataan is called such because it symbolizes the bravery of the Filipino people during the time when peace and democracy were threatened by external forces.

The landmark is actually a giant hand holding a 30-foot long sword. Made of concrete and steel, the Flaming Sword stands proudly in front of the Municipal Hall of Pilar.

The province of Bataan will never forget the date of April 9, 1942 for two reasons.

First, it was the tragic day that Bataan officially fell into the hands of the Japanese forces when Major General Edward P. King Jr. signed the surrender document.

Second, it was the day when the ties between the Filipinos and American forces, and the two countries for that matter, was sealed in blood.

Found in the capital city of Balanga, the Fall of Bataan Marker is a reminder of that tragic time in history and the friendship between the US and the Philippines.

The park used to be the home of the Philippine Refugee Processing Center (PRPC).

The center was a training and transition center for Indochinese refugees from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam who fled to the Philippines in the 1970s.

The former training center is now a techno-economic zone that provides business and employment opportunities for the people of Bataan.

There’s a museum where you can see evidence of the camaraderie between the Indochinese refugees and Filipinos.

Pork Sisig, a typical Kapampangan cuisine that inspired local dishes in Bataan

Bataan is just a short distance to the country's culinary capital, the province of Pampanga .

And because of this, you'll find that the majority of the local dishes in Bataan are inspired by the Kapampangan cuisine of Pampanga.
