I had an extremely positive experience with Roomer. The reservation was arranged efficiently with no complications. Staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Definitely recommend Roomer. The booking was great value for money. Thank you John!

Complete shambles from start to finish

Complete shambles from start to finish! I tried to make a booking for a hotel over 6 times and each time after my payment was approved got an error message about some problem at Roomer’s end! I emailed customer service and got a mail back from John the customer service manager apologising and explaining that they would sort my booking out manually if I still wanted to proceed. I confirmed I did……that is where the customer service ends!!! I never heard anything back despite me sending multiple follow up email to John and the customer service team!! They didn’t even have the good manner to reply at all!!! None existent customer service and a platform that doesn’t work! A complete waste of time.

At Roomer, our mission is to offer an exceptional service experience and a seamless booking journey, and it's evident that we did not meet this commitment in your instance. Our aim is to ensure that issues are addressed more efficiently and that our customers feel supported and valued throughout their interactions with us. Tried to list my room. Got a problem it didn’t verify my number because no code was ever sent to my phone. Tried to reach costumer support a few times and no answer, only an automatic one, I wouldn’t recommend

Only real issue was hotel not being able to connect original booking with my details - it took a supervisor to sort out, as could only see my name and not email address. Also, it would be great if Roomer could add a chat now function. phone number is US and only comes through on confirmation email - not intial processing email. Other than that - great idea for selling non-refundable rooms!

Unethical company

We've got two trips covered by these crooks, we tried to cancel one trip a week ago, nothing to do with covid 19 and now we get told we're getting our premium back in120 days and we can whistle for the rest! Surely this isn't legal, Sure they can refuse to insure someone if they choose but not months after they've accepted the policy and premium, shouldn't be allowed to trade in this country again! Absolute robbing b4st4rds!

Delayed confirmation, no customer service

I listed my room two days ago, emailed my confirmation per request, and it's been in a pending approval state ever since. Meanwhile I'm loosing precious time to sell. Not sure why the delay, but I thought I'd share my experience. No option to contact customer service either.

Date of experience : June 03, 2023

Dear Colby, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're sorry to hear about the delay you've experienced. Please accept our sincere apologies for any confusion or inconvenience that this situation may have caused. At this time, our platform is primarily designed to support hotel reservations. Unfortunately, we are unable to confirm reservations for apartment listings. We understand the importance of time in this industry, and we regret any lost opportunities this may have caused you. As we continue to grow and develop our services, we will consider incorporating the ability to handle apartment reservations. In the meantime, please note that our customer service team is readily available to assist with any questions or concerns you may have. You can reach them at [provide contact details here], and they would be more than happy to help. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention, as it allows us to improve our services and communication. We value your feedback and appreciate your understanding. Best Regards, John, Roomer

Very useful app

Traveling to new places is a must for the people world over, some on missions, some for business, and some travel for vacation. This Roomer Travel is very much useful for people visiting new places with which hotel booking has made it so easy even at incredible discounts. Highly recommend it!

Best Application

Roomer is the best application for getting best deals on hotel room bookings. Here we can get and make the best deals. We can sell our reservation at Roomer and set our own price. People can get hotel rooms at cheap prices from those people who have to cancel their trip. If someone has to cancel their trip,he can sell it on the roomer instead of losing all the booking fee and pay cancellation charge.

Good service to use especially if the hotels are playing hard ball with your unwanted booking. Communication could be better I had to send multiple emails to get a response each time I wanted an update. There could also be a little more information about the after sale process in the account section, but the end delivery is what I wanted.

Roomer Stole From Me and Never Booked the Stay

I booked a stay with Roomer, and on the final page, it had auto filled the booking to today’s date and auto filled some random email address that doesn’t belong to me. I cant receive an email confirmation now obviously, and when I called the hotel to see if they could help on their end, they said there is no reservation under my name. I tried to confirm my phone number, hoping to receive confirmation there, but I’ve hit “resend code” 5 times now, and haven’t gotten anything. I’m so frustrated and freaked out. Edit, March 27: Roomer responded and then promptly ghosted. They are not interested in resolving the issue.

I travel A LOT and Roomer is worth taking a look at

I travel A LOT, and a self proclaimed master of travel booking. Atlanta Superbowl was the first time I've heard of Roomer, so I was initially nervous about booking for such a major event. But when I found the room in a completely sold out location, I took a chance. the staff was very nice and sent me emails at each step of the process. I arrived at the Buckhead location I selected and everything was waiting and ready for me. I'll definitely use them again. It's always good to have competition outside of the typical Hotwire and AirBNB options. Thanks Roomer.

Roomer voided our cancellation…

Roomer voided our cancellation insurance contract in violation of their own terms and conditions when it appeared they may not be able to sell the room on. To add insult to injury they say it will take up to 1/3rd of a year to get our insurance fee refunded by them. As they are also an American company you can only sue them there which makes the cost of pursuing a civil claim prohibitive. Avoid.

Review of Roomerflex with Otel.com

I used Roomerflex with Otel.com when booking a large family holiday (6 rooms). I had to cancel 2 of the rooms and although there was some confusion in the process (where 2 bookings rather than 2 rooms got cancelled, i.e 5 rooms) this was quickly resolved. ++ Was the fast customer service responses by email. The cancellation cover was good value for otherwise a non-refundable room. -ve Was the slowness in receiving the refund. I did have to chase it up.

I recently had to cancel my travel…

I recently had to cancel my travel plans and was faced with the prospect of losing out on the money I had invested in my hotel room. That's when I discovered Roomer and I am so glad I did! The platform made it incredibly easy for me to sell my unused hotel reservation and recoup some of my costs. The process was quick and hassle-free, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I was able to receive for my reservation. I highly recommend Roomer to anyone who needs to cancel their travel plans and wants to minimize their losses. The platform is a lifesaver and I am so grateful for the opportunity to recoup some of my costs. Thank you, Roomer, for making an unfortunate situation a little bit easier.

Reoccurring Theme

It seems like this is a reoccurring theme here but my wife booked a trip through Secret Escapes and took out the Roomer insurance. We cancelled it before Covid and lockdown happened in March and still no luck in getting a refund. We have been sent from pillar to post by Secret Escapes and Roomer and are still no further forward. Now Secret Escapes are saying there is nothing more they can do and Roomer are not returning calls, emails, tweets etc etc. Has anyone actually received a refund from them or anyone taken the matter further?

I had a great experience with Roomer

I had a great experience with Roomer. All our hotels for a trip for two months were booked through them, and all quickly. One time there was a misunderstanding with our order but we contacted customer service and within a few moments the problem was resolved. We were very pleased with the service and prices and will definitely book through them again.

Took out roomer cancellation insurance…

Took out roomer cancellation insurance via secret escapes for a hotel reservation. Cancelled expecting instant 80% refund. Had to chase up 5 times with emails and calls over 5 weeks before finally receiving where the PayPal refund was also subject to a fee!! Would have given 1 star but to be fair at least you can get hold of someone at roomer / secret escapes all be it pointless.

Date of experience : July 16, 2019

Dear Madge I am sorry you feel this way. Please note that we add the paypal fee (which is about 6%) to your payout so that you receive the correct amount after PayPal subtracts the fee. For more information please contact our Customer Support. Once again, sorry for any inconvenience caused Regards

Can Roomer Be Trusted? Know Before You Book! [Review]

Here we dissect the app Roomer, which claims to allow users to sell and buy non-refundable hotel rooms. We review its features and categorizes it on what we like and don't like and if it's worth using the app.

roomer travel reddit

Non-refundable hotel reservations would have been one out of the many disappointments you had to encounter during the pandemic. While some companies might have altered their cancellation policies, at least partially accounting for the customer’s loss, it’s not the case everywhere. After all, while companies like Secret Escapes can offer exclusive rates to hotels around the world, nothing's worse than life coming in the way of your travels and having the hotels rejecting your cancellation request.

Also, forget the pandemic. Even before that, you might have sighed in despair, having spent a good chunk of your wallet on a room you won’t be enjoying – because some emergency got in your way.

Well, you are not alone. But don’t worry because Roomer might be the ideal solution for your problem.

Roomer  is a platform that helps you sell your prepaid non-refundable hotel reservation to a potential buyer who might be scouring the web to find a roof over their head at the last minute. Exaggeration aside, it is a great website for desperate sellers and desperate buyers – like South Asian matrimonial apps. No offense though!

Sounds interesting? Read our Roomer review to find out if it is the right choice for you.

What is Roomer?

Founded in 2011 by Gon Ben David and Ben Froumine, Roomer is a “peer-to-peer marketplace” that allows travelers to sell their non-refundable hotel rooms they won’t be using to interested buyers looking for a similar accommodation choice in the area. Roomer calls it a win-win situation where the seller gets a “refund” that would otherwise be quite impossible, and the buyer gets a room at a discounted price!

There is a website and mobile app for your convenience.

Roomer Website preview

How Does Roomer Work?

You can use Roomer as a buyer or seller.

For sellers:

All you have to do is list your non-refundable reservation made with any hotel or Online Travel Agency on the website. Roomer will then proceed to verify your reservation and promote it via multiple channels. If it is booked, you will receive the money several days after the check-out date. Essentially, what happens here is a change of the name under which the room is reserved, so the room can be occupied by a new guest. Roomer claims to handle the transfer on behalf of sellers for a smooth service! It will charge 15% of the rate as its service fee.

For buyers:

The non-refundable reservation option is popular among travelers because the hotel offers you a room at a discounted price. In return, the customer takes the risk of losing the refund in case of cancellations.

Now, for you, with no second thoughts on the booking, it is a great deal. Roomer offers discounts up to 90%, helping you get a comfortable room at a comfortable price! It helps you save money while helping a fellow traveler save money at the same time. Roomer’s customer support is available 24/7 for assistance should you face any issue during check-in.

What is RoomerFlex?

RoomerFlex is a feature that offers cancellation protection for non-refundable reservations made with booking websites like Secret Escapes and Loveholidays. If you purchase this service, you will be entitled to an 80% refund, given you inform them 24 hours prior to check-in. After you claim the refund, Roomer will put your Room up for sale on the website, allowing interested parties to buy it.

What We Like About Roomer?

  • Helps you save money

The chances of a hotel compensating for a non-reimbursable reservation are very slim. Think of Roomer as the loophole that helps you recover at least a fraction of your cost!

If you were to find a fellow traveler to buy your reservation, it is going to be a difficult task. By handling all the behind-the-scenes of the sale, like marketing and transferring, Roomer helps you escape the non-refundable trap more easily!

  • Cheap deals

Roomer is like  Scott’s Cheap Flights , letting you find accommodation at an impressively cheap rate. The discounts range from 10%-90%, depending on the seller’s offer. It is a good option for last-minute buyers who would otherwise be spending more.

What We Don’t Like About Roomer?

  • Refund issues

As per many users, especially sellers, Roomer has a poor reputation for processing refunds promptly as promised. There have been instances when the seller had to wait for several months and send many emails to get the reimbursement from Roomer, although it is cleared from the buyer’s side.

  • Booking issues

As it appears, Roomer is not a seamless experience for buyers either. Many have gone through a painstaking booking process, waiting for days for the transfer to happen, and then get rejected for non-existent issues with their payment method. It is frustrating and time-consuming and can easily cause you to switch to another website.

  • RoomerFlex

Many customers have complained about Roomer’s refusal to refund the promised sum of their non-refundable reservation during the pandemic. In some cases, it has happened even when the hotel has agreed to provide a refund. No doubt, this puts Roomer’s credibility to question.

Group social travel with family and friends

Is Roomer Worth It?

Roomer is an amazing concept. However, it is far from a perfect or reliable service. We came across many complaints from both buyers and sellers with regards to using Roomer. Their customer support is not that great either. If it is to thrive and become popular, they need to improve their service drastically. Also, the website does not have a large number of listings from the sellers. That’s another aspect determining its usefulness.

Roomer Travel App: A Comprehensive Review

roomer travel reddit

In today’s digital age, a new travel app seems to emerge almost daily, promising innovative solutions to age-old travel conundrums. The challenge for users, however, lies in discerning which apps genuinely offer value. Enter Roomer Travel, a platform designed to provide an alternative to standard hotel booking procedures. This review delves deep into Roomer Travel’s offerings to determine its efficacy, advantages, and potential drawbacks.

The Concept Behind Roomer Travel

At its core, Roomer Travel is an ingenious solution to a common problem many travelers face: non-refundable hotel bookings. By creating a platform where travelers can sell their non-refundable hotel reservations to others, Roomer introduces a win-win scenario. Sellers recover some of their costs, and buyers often secure accommodations at rates lower than traditional booking channels.

Ease of Use

Upon launching the Roomer Travel app, users are greeted with a clean, intuitive interface. The design is straightforward, allowing both sellers and buyers to navigate the platform with ease. Users can quickly search for available rooms based on destination, check-in/check-out dates, and other filters like hotel star ratings. The detailed listings, complete with images and hotel amenities, help potential buyers make informed decisions.

Security and Verification Process

A significant concern when dealing with such transactions is the potential for scams. Roomer Travel mitigates these risks through a rigorous verification process. Before any listing goes live, the app verifies the authenticity of the reservation. Furthermore, all payments are processed securely through the platform, ensuring both parties are protected.

Pricing and Fees

For buyers, the appeal lies in the possibility of securing discounted rooms. Sellers, meanwhile, can set their own prices, though Roomer does provide recommended pricing based on the reservation’s original value and proximity to the check-in date. It’s worth noting that Roomer charges a 15% service fee from the selling price. This fee covers the transfer of the reservation and other operational costs.

Coverage and Availability

While Roomer offers listings from around the world, its coverage is naturally contingent on users. As such, availability can be hit or miss. Popular destinations and peak travel times tend to have more listings, while off-the-beaten-path locales might have limited options.

Customer Support

Roomer Travel understands the importance of reliable customer support. The app offers a dedicated support section where users can access frequently asked questions or contact the support team directly. Response times are generally prompt, and the team is knowledgeable, addressing concerns with professionalism.

Comparison with Other Platforms

Compared to traditional hotel booking platforms, Roomer offers a unique niche. While it may not replace platforms like Booking.com or Expedia in terms of comprehensive listings, it provides an alternative for those seeking deals or looking to offload non-refundable reservations. Another platform, Cancelon, offers a similar service but lacks Roomer’s polished interface and robust support.

The Environmental Angle

Beyond the practical implications, there’s an environmental perspective to consider. By facilitating the transfer of bookings, Roomer indirectly reduces waste. Empty hotel rooms, especially if they’ve been prepared for guests, consume resources. By ensuring rooms are occupied, we see a more sustainable use of these resources.

No platform is without its shortcomings. One of Roomer’s primary challenges lies in its dependency on users for listings. This means that sometimes, the availability might not match the demand. Additionally, while the verification process is thorough, there remains a small margin of error or potential for discrepancies.

Roomer Travel fills a unique niche in the travel market. For those flexible with their travel plans, the platform offers an opportunity for savings. For others, it’s a chance to recuperate some expenses from unforeseen changes in itinerary. While it might not replace your go-to hotel booking platform, it’s a valuable tool to have in your travel arsenal. As with all services, potential users should approach with caution, ensuring they fully understand terms and conditions. But with its robust verification processes and dedicated support, Roomer Travel stands out as a reliable and innovative solution in the travel industry.

I took a chance making a booking with Roomer for a 5 star hotel in New Delhi, India for a stay there in early Jan. I received a terrific price which is why I thought it was a big risk. However, everything went smoothly and I had a positive experience.

roomer travel reddit

Thanks for your post. The deals seem to good to be true and I am a little afraid to use them!

I totally agree with mysticsumm0ner's review. Crooked company who will take your money, not provide the service you have paid for and then refuse to give you a refund. I am currently fighting for my refund which Roomer advised would be in my account by late February! DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS CROOKED COMPANY!

Zdrasti mysticsumm0ner

My name is Jay and I am the head of the operations and support at Roomer Travel

I am sorry that you had such a bad experience with us :(

As you mentioned, Roomer is a marketplace where you can sell your non refundable hotel room to someone else who is in need of your room.

Not only are we helping the person that is stuck with a non refundable room, to recover some of their loss, we are also helping the person buying the room to buy it for a bargain price :)

That is what we call positive shared economy.

Due to this type of model, we have a two-step confirmation that we provide our buyers upon making a booking. Confirmation email number one states that we are in the process of transferring ownership from the seller so that the booking will be under the buyer’s name. Once we have successfully transferred ownership from the seller to the buyer, a second final confirmation email is provided to the buyer that their booking was successful, and they are ready to check-in.

In some cases, we are unable to transfer the ownership from the seller to the buyer thus this happens rarely. If it does happen, we always provide alternative hotels to the buyer to choose from or they can choose to be fully refunded.

In addition, if we have provided the buyer with the final confirmation and in the unlikely event, they experience any issues upon check-in, we guarantee that they will have a booking at the same property or an upgraded hotel nearby. That is a promise.

We at roomer care for our customers. We are always working towards providing our customers with the best experience, both for sellers and for buyers.

We don't claim that we are perfect, but we do our utmost to ensure full satisfaction to all our customers.

Once again, I am truly sorry for any inconvenience caused and I hope to see you on roomer soon

I booked a room in London last year. Got a really great deal in the theatre district. 3 nights for £270. It was a third of the price and no issues. I was impressed with the service. It was a great deal and at least the person selling their room got some funds back.

I do feel now when I search I tend to just get regular hotel prices. It's a pity.

I'm experiencing pathetic customer service from your company. I posted a room to sell in your website. Since the past 7hrs, I am trying to cancel the listing but am getting an error. Since 6hrs exchanging emails with your rep and they cannot even understand my request. Now I get an email that my room is sold. PATHETIC

Agree with mysticsumm0ner and others on the forum. This website is a scam. I had a good price ready to book, asked them a question and then all of the sudden it isn't available anymore. Their customer service or lack thereof made me realize I could not trust this company

' class=

Its a shame that your colleagues don't take the same approach. I have experienced the best and worst with Roomer. On previous trips, it has worked out or where it doesn't alternative solutions were offered. My most recent experience on New Years Day means I won't use you again and will encourage others not to because a room at a five star hotel that was "sold" to me turned out not to exist after we had made the booking. Fake room, faux customer service and hours and energy wasted.

If you are going to advertise rooms, you have to be able to deliver on your promises or customers will recognise that you are simply con-artists

DO NOT USE ROOMER!! This travel website totally screwed me. I prepaid for my room with Roomer and when I arrived at the hotel they had no reservation for me. I called customer service 10 times and nothing but an answering machine. I had to pay top rack rate for my room at the hotel, double what I had thought I would be paying.

There is beauty everywhere — in the minimalist architecture and fluid floor plans of Japan’s countryside to the concrete finishes and unusual shapes of Eastern Europe — but certain cities seem to captivate the general population, wooing visitors with their storybook architecture, preserved castles , and greenery.

When Reddit user /Slommyhouse asked the r/travel community “What is the most aesthetically beautiful city that never loses its appeal no matter how many times you visit?” travelers chimed in and certain destinations rose to the top — including lesser-known cities in Central Europe and a royal sanctuary northwest of Lisbon.

Florence, Italy

Florence, along with Prague, was the “best” answer to the question, based on the ratio of user upvotes to downvotes. The result isn’t shocking — when it comes to art and architecture, Florence can’t help but stand out. You’ll find grocery stores and pizza spots housed within stunning Renaissance architecture, along with major sites like the Duomo Cathedral and Michelangelo’s “David” sculpture.

Reddit user /claudio6992 replied, “For me it’s Florence been there on multiple visits and it hits different. I love history and for me it’s like an open museum were you can imagine yourself transported back to a different era.”

Prague, Czech Republic

In addition to Florence, users had a lot to say about Prague, a city that’s bisected by the Vltava River and built around the Old Town Square, a plaza surrounded by colorful baroque buildings. The highlight of this historic square is the St. Nicholas Church, which is considered to be the greatest example of Prague Baroque architecture, and the medieval astronomical clock, which provides a complicated and animated hourly show . One Reddit user, /WestCoastBestCoast01 , replied, “Prague was immediately my first thought!!”

Edinburgh, Scotland

The compact, hilly city of Edinburg has two distinct areas: the medieval Old Town, which is dominated by Edinburgh Castle, and the elegant, neoclassical New Town, which has stunning gardens. The juxtaposition of these two areas is so significant that they’ve been named a UNESCO Heritage Site . User /BasicLawyer noted that for them, the city is special because of the “ancient volcanic structures surrounding a gothic city with networks of underground streets.”

Ljubljana, Slovenia

The Central European country of Slovenia is rarely on top of Americans’ must-visit list, but the country, which is known for its mountains, ski resorts, and lakes (including Lake Bled, a glacial lake fed by hot springs) finally got some recognition. The capital city of Ljubljana is split by the Ljubljanica River, which is lined with outdoor cafes, and has plenty of green space.

User /SoullessGinger666 called it the “Most anti-car, pro-pedestrian city I've ever been to,” noting that it’s “Utterly stunning down the river.” User /klimatronic confirmed that “when you are in Ljubljana, you don't need car, or even public transport, you can go anywhere by foot.”

Sintra, Portugal

The resort town of Sintra is only a 40-minute drive from central Lisbon, but the vibe couldn’t be more different. The town is set in the foothills of Portugal’s Sintra Mountains and is surrounded by forest and greenery. It has been a longtime royal sanctuary, with elaborate palaces that include the Sintra National Palace, which is heralded for its twin chimneys and notable tilework, and the Pena National Palace, which sits on a hilltop and has sweeping views.

Redding user /notyourwheezy , said, “something about those castles that just looks so fairytale. and bonus if it's rainy and misty. truly feels like I've stepped into a storybook.”

Michigan is expected to have more than 1.15 million residents hitting the road this Memorial Day weekend.

AAA estimates that nearly 1.3 million people will travel 50 miles or more for their holiday weekend plans, most of which will travel by automobile due to the transportation mode’s flexibility and convenience.

  1. Is roomer a trusted website to sell my Bangkok hotel reservation?

Do not use Roomer. They are untrustworthy. I can get more into specifics but you are better served talking to your card company or finding another website or local service. I used Roomer twice now and was essentially not given any service and they took my money. Ended up going through my card company anyhow.

  2. Best overall booking sites : r/TravelHacks

tldr: it mostly depends on the destination, but you'll mostly find better deals and have overall good experience via booking.com and Airbnb. The vast majority of all accomodation is available via 3 big players: Booking Holdings, Expedia Group and Airbnb. The first 2 corporations own a large number of brands that they bought over the years.

Where other websites will include the nice hotels and the not so nice hotels, you can pretty much guarantee anything from secretescapes is going to be nice (at least 4 star). 2. jules32123.

  7. RoomerTravel Review

Roomer is not something I'd recommend to everybody but overall it was a positive experience as I paid $40 ($15 after using my $25 sign up bonus) for a four star hotel room that usually costs $140-$150 per night. How popular this site becomes will depend on how easily they can convince people to list nonrefundable rooms.
