Bannerghatta National Park is a famous wildlife sanctuary located 22 km from Bangalore city. Opened in 1970, Bannerghatta National Park is famous for its lion and tiger safaris. The park is spread over an area of 104.27 Sq Km and features a wide variety of rare and endangered flora and fauna.

Bannerghatta National Park offers diverse attractions including a zoo, auditorium, museum, aquarium, safari and boating. The Park is home to tigers, lions, elephants, wild boars, Indian bison, leopards, deer, bears, birds and butterflies. Some of the notable species include Thiamin deer, hog deer, king cobra, Himalayan black bear and Malabar giant squirrel. It also has beneficial herbs and plants like neem and tamarind.

One of the main attractions of this park is its safaris. The park offers various safaris to its visitors like lion safari, tiger safari and elephant safari. The park offers one-hour safari on jeeps, cars and buses and during the safari, you can spot different animals like leopards, white tigers, Bengal tigers, and lions.

The National Park houses a Butterfly Park established in 2006 by the Zoo Authority of Karnataka, University of Agricultural Sciences and the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment. I

t covers 7.5 acres of land and features 20 different butterfly species. The park is covered by a polycarbonate roof to create a tropical and humid environment artificially. Established in the year of 1971, Bannerghatta National Park is spread across 104. 27 sq.kms and has ten reserve forests of Anekal Range of the Bangalore Forest Division under it. Once at the national park, you will have more than one option to keep yourself engaged. Along with national park, Bangerghatta has an Aquarium, a Zoo, Children's park, Crocodile Farm, Snake park, Prehistoric animals park and a Museum. From families with children to adventure lovers, every one has something of their choice here.

The overall beauty of the park gets a boost from the Suvarnamukhi stream, originating in the Suvarnamukhi hills and runs through the park. Suvarnamukhi hills spread out to a huge rock and have famous Champaka Dhama Swamy temple which belongs to the Hoysala age at the foothill of the rock. The Suvarnamukhi pond that is two kms away is believed to have curative powers.

Enclosure covering an area of ​​68.00 square meters in the Bannerghatta Forest Reserve. The herbivore safari is believed to have been developed in the 1970s but opened to the public in 2002. The entire area was barricaded with stone walls, and a solar fence and Elephant Protection Trench (EPT) were added.

Safari vegetation is more favorable to herbivores year-round, as numerous forage species such as bamboo and anogasius are suspended in the vast coastal areas of the waters.

Edible grass species such as saccharam, symbopogan, and heteropogan are commonly found in grasslands and form the main forage. Several patches of Shorea Telura have also been found within the safari, acting as standing shadows for the animals.

There are five bodies of water in the safari area: Deepankere, Chennamanakere, Gowdanakere, Seegadikhunte, and Gowdanakere. These bodies of water are perennial remnants and serve as a water source for imprisoned animals throughout the seasons.

Animals seen on safari include gaur, sambar, cheetah, barking deer, blackbuck, and nilgai. Other animals naturally present on safari are wild boars, porcupines, and pangolins, which are commonly seen along with other large mammals

Bear Safari was established in 2002 on 45 acres within the Lagihari State Forest. The safari area has an open ditch around it. The exterior walls of the moat are lined with stone slabs to prevent sloth bears from escaping and free-roaming wildlife from entering the safari.

This safari includes 5 blocks namely Panchavati, Chitracta, Kishkinda, Dr. G.K.V Block, and Jambaba. There are about 100 animal breeding rooms with kitchens in total. Forest areas are also planted with fruit trees to create a natural habitat for bears.

Created as part of Bear Safari, the facility was entrusted to Wildlife SOS management to house and care for an additional number of bears rescued from the Madari tribe from across India in 2005.

It is an open enclosure established in 1979 on 5.00ha of the Lagihari Forest Reserve. A wire mesh net approximately 15 feet high was installed around the 12 acres of woodland. A large trench was also dug around the chain link fence to keep out the wildlife that inhabits the area. The animal house has 11 enclosures, all 11 enclosures with recovery areas for rest during the day. Certain groups of animals are only allowed on a regular basis for safari tourists.

Perimeter boundaries were created for all three units by digging open trenches and erecting chain link fences. Indira Gandhi Tiger Safari has 11 lounges. properties. There are 8 animal rooms in total. All holding houses are equipped with basic water and sanitation facilities. Certain groups of animals are only allowed on a regular basis for safari tourists.

The Bannerghatta National Park is hailed as one of the most famous and prominent of all national parks in India. This man-made park is home to several species of birds and animals and it attracts children and adults alike through its varied wildlife.

An Overview of the Bannerghatta National Park

Spread across a sprawling area of over 104.27 sq. km, the Bannerghatta National Park was established in the year 1971. The park has been famously hailed for housing a wide variety of birds and animals and is especially known for its tiger and lion safari. Boasting of an exquisite variety of flora and fauna, the park is a treat for animal lovers and children.

The park encompasses ten reserve forests of the Anekal Range under the Bangalore Forest Division. Situated at a distance of 22 km from the city of Bangalore, the park houses a zoo, conservatories, and a museum.

There are several small temples that sit atop the hills inside the park that you can pay a visit to. The Suvarnamukhi stream runs across the park and it is believed that the stream originates from the Suvarnamukhi Hill. Just over 2 km from the hill, you can also find the Suvarnamukhi pond which is said to have several curative powers.

The park is dotted with flora that attracts over 20 different species of butterflies. The conservatory maintains a tropical climate with the necessary humidity level to suit the butterflies.

Children can gather information and improve their biological knowledge by paying a visiting the museum located inside the park that houses several exhibits. Above all, the main idea of the zoo was as a picnic spot for the city-dwellers. There are about 1900 animals here, both exotic and Indian, belonging to over 90 different fauna species! Moreover, there is a museum and an air-conditioned 3-dimensional auditorium nearby, to educate visitors about the preservation of the fauna.

The museum is located in the adjoining area of the zoo. The objective of the museum is to educate the tourists about the various fauna in the zoo and the importance of protecting them. The museum contains fossils and skeletons of extinct animals, photographs, and various other educational resources.

Everyone loves butterflies. And we all have chased them as kids; perhaps, even touched one. So, how about a garden full of butterflies? But, we’re not talking about a little, ordinary garden here. We’re talking of a 7-acre park with over 40 species of butterflies! In other words, a massive butterfly enclosure. That is the butterfly park at Bannerghatta National Park. The Butterfly Park is the first and a unique butterfly enclosure in India, established in 2006.

The butterfly park consists of various sections:

• Firstly, there is a butterfly garden that consists of different species of butterflies.
• Secondly, they have a captive breeding lab to conduct research and breeding activities.
• Then, there is a museum which contains dioramas and other exhibits of educational value.
• And lastly, there exists an audiovisual room which screens documentary films about butterflies. There is also a curio shop with attractive artifacts in the butterfly park.

The geology of Bannerghatta National Park Bengaluru is rich with distinct rocks and outcrops. Mirza hill is one hillock in the national park which is particularly stunning for its outcrops and granite rock formations. So, rock and prehistoric garden is created here. It has three life-sized models of Styracosaurus, Dinosaur, and Dimetrodon. These are manmade prehistoric animal models. In addition to this, the area is a favorite relaxation spot for visitors coming to the park.

To add to the glory further, Bannerghatta National Park has a watchtower. The Suvarnamukhi watchtower is situated on the top of a hill. It is on the northwest side of the Suvarnamukhi Forest Guesthouse. The speed of wind at this point is very high. Therefore, electricity generated from wind turbines here is used for the functioning of the park. Visitors can also get a wonderful view of the butterfly park from the watchtower. Likewise, the zoo extension area and herbivore safari region can also be easily viewed from here.

Udige Bande is a unique place inside the Bannerghatta National Park Bengaluru. In earlier times, when people died, their family members used to bring the corpse and leave it in this area. Consequently, the scavenger animals who inhabited the area fed on it. This ritual was practiced because the family believed that, by leaving the body as food for these animals, the soul of the deceased person would attain peace.

Furthermore, there is another watchtower in this area of the park. From here, visitors can enjoy the panoramic charm of the park. Towards the northeast of this area, in between Udige Bande and an adjoining hill, a check dam is also constructed. As a result, animals who roam around this area like elephants, sambars, and deer can meet their water requirements from this dam.

There is a huge monolithic stone on top of another hillock in the Bengaluru Bannerghatta National Park. Interestingly, this stone resembles the shape of one that a barber used to sharpen his blade in the olden times. Hence, the name. In addition to this, the scenery from this point is breathtaking. So, this place attracts a lot of visitors.

Apart from these, the Bannerghatta National Park also houses an aquarium, a crocodile farm, a children’s park, and a reptile house. Furthermore, there are outdoor activities in the park including bird watching, fishing, trekking, and camping. There are also animal rescue centers and vet care centers that provide special care and protection to the animals. All in all, the Bannerghatta National Park is an ideal example of its kind.

1. Lion safari

Moreover, special care has been taken so that other animals do not trespass into this area. A huge, hollow space constructed throughout the outside of the fence ensures this. There is a total of 11 holding rooms in the lion safari area. There are also separate resting areas for the animals inside the holding rooms. According to recent reports, there are 10 male and 9 female lions in the safari of Bengaluru Bannerghatta biological park.

2. Tiger safari

The tiger safari divides into three units which separate the normal tigers and white tigers. A chain-linked mesh and a deep moat is built in between the three units. The borders of the entire area are also strictly fenced to avoid trespassing. Combining all three units, there are about 10 holding rooms in the tiger safari area. There are 15 male and 11 female normal tigers, while, there are 3 male and 4 female white tigers in the Bannerghatta National park safari.

3. Herbivore safario

The Bannerghatta National park safari also has an extensive herbivore safari range. The herbivore safari spans across an area of 68 hectares. Although all herbivores are in different sections, the elephant unit is a distinctive attraction of the herbivore safari. Additionally, heightened walls surround the area, like the lion and tiger safari ones. An elephant proof trench and a solar-powered fence provide further security. Certainly, plant life in these areas is suitable vegetation for herbivores. Grasses and stunted plants are in the majority, which is ideal for these animals. One can spot animals like barking deer, gaur and elephants during the safari. Similarly, nilgai, sambar, cheetah, and blackbuck are also a common sight. Furthermore, there are five major water bodies here to provide the water requirements of these animals.

4. Bear safari

The Bear Safari is the final stop of Safari at Bengaluru Bannerghatta biological park. With a population of over 70 bears, this is one of the favorite safari locations among tourists. The Bear Safari area covers about 18 hectares of the Ragihalli reserve forest. Nonetheless, to say, the borders are heavily fenced and there is an open moat throughout the area. Bannerghatta National Park was established in 1970 and declared as a national park in 1974. This National Park is known as the Biological Park. Bannerghatta National Park is a popular visitor destination spot with zoos, pet’s nook, animal rescue center, a butterfly stop, aquariums, snake houses and safari parks. Bannerghatta National Park has ancient temples for worship and this National Park is also considered as a place for trekking and hiking. Bannerghatta national park offers researchers a wide variety of wildlife. The National Park is 6 km Safari offers guided bus tours on the roads, specially designed for safari and foreign tourists. The atmosphere of this National Park is also very beautiful and calm.

Bannerghatta is an elephant sanctuary on the national park and is fenced and wooded. It provides a safe place for elephants to roam freely in the national park. The sanctuary covers 122 acres of land.

In 1972 a mini zoo was built at Bannerghatta National park. And today it has grown to more than 78 animal species and more than 1300 animals.

Tourists in Bannerghatta National Park have elephants, Indian gazelles, leopards, jackals, sluggish bears, Royal Bengal tigers, monitor lizards, hippos, Asian lions, wild boars, barking deer, spotted deer, langurs, foxes, tigers, crocodiles, and fox Animals can see.

India's first butterfly enclosure opened in 2006 in the National Park. The conservatory in the National Park has an audio visual room and a museum. It supports more than 20 butterfly species in the National Park's 10,000 square foot space.

This is a reptile park in the national park. Some of the reptiles found within it include python, Russell's viper, monitor lizard and cobra.

The plants that can be grown in this national park include bamboo, eucalyptus, tamarind, citrus, sandalwood, Santalum album and many more.

This National Park has many safari options for tourists including lions and tiger safari, herbivore safari and bear safari. In it, visitors can observe the animals in a safe safari vehicle while the animals wander in their natural environment.

Depending on the tropical climate, September is the best time of year for visitors to visit this national park each year.

Bannerghatta National park is spread over 65,127.5 acres. This national park is located 22 km south of Bangalore in the mountains of the Anekal Range with a height of 1245 - 1634 meters. Bannerghatta National Park is a hilly region of moist autumn forest valleys and granite sheets under scrubland.

It is part of the wildlife corridor for the elephants on the National Park that connects the BR Hills and the Sathyamangalam jungle.

This National Park is a haven for a wide variety of flora and fauna. Other attractions of Bannerghatta National Park include the Ten Reserve Forests, Aquariums, Zoos, Children's Park, Crocodile Farm, Snake Park, Prehistoric Zoo and Museum of the Anekal Range in the Forest Division of Bangalore.
