Bring Your Own Bike

For visitors with their own bikes, come to the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center Activities Desk before starting your ride. We are happy to supply maps, offer suggested routes and sites to see, and explain park regulations for road biking and off-road mountain biking to help ensure you have an awesome time!

One-way roads in the Park have paved bike lanes. The Garden Drive/Juniper Way loop is about 6 miles with quite a few hills, some as steep as a 15% grade, and the park is at 6400 feet elevation, so appropriate physical condition is necessary for riding standard pedal bikes. Mountain biking is allowed only on designated mountain biking trails, which are shared with equestrian users and hikers.

“We were at Garden of the God’s for our 10 year anniversary. We did the bike tour with Dwight as our guide. He was awesome! He gave us all the history and facts. He was very kind and always made sure we were enjoying ourselves. He went above and beyond to capture some really cool photos for us. Great experience!” Rebecca Ley

“We had the BEST time! Our tour guide was Nate! He was a great teacher on how to ride the bikes. He was knowledgeable about the park and its location. Don’t miss this!” Kristy Donahue

“Such an amazing experience! I have lived in Colorado Springs for years and I was blown away by how much I learned about Garden of the Gods and Colorado Springs on this tour! My tour guide Sean was stellar! He was super knowledgeable, put everyone’s safety first, and had some hilarious jokes! I was a little nervous to ride an e-bike for the first time but Sean did a great job at teaching the group how they worked and gave us a chance to do a test lap before the tour. I’ve never had more fun on a bike before! 10/10 would recommend 👏” Sophia Reily

When is the best time of year to visit Garden of the Gods?

garden-of-the-gods-kissing-camels-in-winter

As someone who goes to Garden of the Gods every month with a hiking group, the best of the year to visit is spring or fall.

This is when the weather conditions are mild and you can explore the park and any of these outdoor activities without the summer tourist traffic.

Although the Park is open year-round and beautiful no matter what the season, summer is an extremely busy time of year for Garden of the Gods.

It sees a ton of tourism during the warmer months which means crowded trails and lots of traffic.

So it’s best to avoid visiting Garden of the Gods in June through August if possible.

How much does it cost to visit Garden of the Gods?

A visit to Garden of the Gods is completely free no matter what time of year or day you visit.

When Charles Perkins, the founder of Garden of the Gods, passed away his children gifted the park to the City of Colorado Springs.

But the main requirement was that this National Natural Landmark would always remain open and free for visitors.

So, if you’re planning to explore Garden of the Gods, this is a completely free destination, and one of the top Colorado bucket list destinations .

Is there free parking at Garden of the Gods?

parking at garden of the gods visitor center

Yes, there are multiple places within Garden of the Gods to park for free. There are two large lots with plenty of free parking available.

The first, and most popular parking area, is the Visitor & Nature Center which is also the meeting place for most tours at the Park.

The second, more of an overflow lot, is located at the Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site.

In addition, Garden of the Gods has 16 smaller parking lots scattered throughout the grounds, labeled as P1 through P16 on the map .

You can easily pull off the main road to park for free as well as access many of the various hiking trails inside Garden of the Gods.

Can you drive your car through Garden of the Gods?

Yes, one of the great things about Garden of the Gods are the paved roads that wind throughout the Park.

There are also multiple parking lots where you can park for free to get out and hike, bike, or rock climb.

But you don’t have to get out of your car if you don’t want to. You can simply drive around Garden of the Gods for free in your own vehicle.

We go hiking at Garden of the Gods every month and it’s one of our favorite hikes in Colorado Springs.

From epic photo opportunities to an amazing scenic drive through Garden of the Gods, a tour is a great way to take in the beautiful scenery that Colorado has to offer.

We hope these spectacular Garden of the Gods tours help you create unforgettable memories while visiting Colorado Springs.

Bike the Garden of the Gods Loop

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Elevation Gain

Description

Added by Connor Bruson

With dedicated bike lanes, multiple loop options, and epic scenery around every corner, Garden of the Gods is straight out of a road cyclist's dream.

The Basics:  Garden of the Gods is a free, public park on the Western edge of Colorado Springs. Open year round, the excellent paved roads with wide bike lanes provide road bikers with multiple loop options from 3 to 10+ miles. From casual bike riders to seasoned pros, you choose your distance and difficulty!

The Ride:  Starting from the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center entrance (East side of park), the 2.5 mile inner loop takes you counter-clockwise around the majority of the jaw-dropping rock formations. You'll ride past multiple great photo ops on the roadside. Be wary! Despite multiple warning signs, tourists love to park in the bike lane, especially during busy summer months.  To add to the inner loop, follow signage to the rider's right for Balancing Rock and the Trading Post. Once you make it downhill to the Trading Post, the road will take you back to the main inner loop. This larger loop is about 6 miles.  Rinse and repeat these loops as much as you want. You can also exit the park in any direction and rejoin on a different access road to add mileage and difficulty.

The Area:  Garden of the Gods has multiple amenities inside the park at the Visitor's Center and the Trading Post , where maps, food, bathrooms, and souvenirs are available. The unique  Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort is located at the park boundary. The Garden is nestled near Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs, which both provide ample bike shops, tourist attractions, eateries, and lodging. You can also access the Garden of the Gods by bike from downtown Colorado Springs via the Midland Trail. I highly recommend catching the sunset after your ride. These loops are just as excellent for road running, and there are miles of hiking trails interspersed between the roads and rock formations for many days worth of exploring. Looking for hikes or climbing, check out  Climb and Hike in the Garden of the Gods or  Hike the Garden of the Gods Observation Trail .

Experience the Thrill of Adventure! ★★★★★

Excellent tour guide Lauren took us through the park on a 2+ hour ride. Safety was ensured for every rider. Sights were amazing and the e-bikes made it easy. Was the best part of our spring break to Colorado.

Our family’s first time for a bike tour and our instructors were very patient. The electric bikes were easy to ride and the views were breathtaking. I am so glad we took the bike tour instead of walking. It was worth every penny and the kids are already asking to go back. Thank you to our instructors, Sean and Lauren for making this trip so memorable.

Sean did an amazing job making sure everyone was safe by knowing the safety rules and knew how to properly ride their e-bike. He took us to many photo op stops, to his favorite spots, and to some secret off the grid spots. You can tell he really enjoys his job!

The E-bike tour was so much fun!! Dwight was both fun and informative! He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable on the bikes before starting the tour and led the way making it easy for us to follow. Don’t miss this one!
