Cape Tribulation Day Tour

Cape Tribulation is where the world’s oldest continually surviving tropical rainforests, meet the world’s greatest living tropical reef, the Great Barrier Reef. Nowhere else on earth do two natural World Heritage listed sites exist side by side. Such is the natural beauty and precious value of this truly stunning piece of paradise, that you will have ample time to explore and enjoy on the Active Tropics Explorer Cape Tribulation full day tour.

Commence the adventure with a scenic coastal drive from Cairns to Port Douglas. This is the far north’s very own great ocean road and provides panoramic views over the sparkling Coral Sea. Heading north our first stop is at Mossman Gorge, which is in the southern sector of the world-famous Daintree National Park. This gorge has been carved out by the cold mountain waters of the Mossman River, which winds through large granite boulders, bordered by lush green rainforest. It’s a magical place and you’ll participate in a “Welcome to Country” with the traditional owners, the Kuku Yalanji people, who will also cleanse you of evil spirits with a smoke ceremony and apply traditional rainforest body paint to you.

Next, it’s time to explore this ancient rainforest environment on an interesting, guided tour of the Mossman Gorge. Our highly trained guides will give expert rainforest interpretation, which will inform and impress. Be amazed at the huge diversity you will encounter, everything from low lying ferns and shrubs to the massive rainforest canopy.

There is an opportunity for you to enjoy a refreshing swim in the cascading waters.

Continuing north we stop in Daintree Village for lunch. Next you will join a Wildlife Cruise on the Daintree River where you might see a crocodile, while learning about the fragile ecosystem of this impressive serpent-like river system.

You are now on the north side on the Daintree River where our guide will meet you for you next stop. We head to Thornton’s Beach – where the rainforest meets the reef. Enjoy the beautiful views of the lower ranges of Thornton Peak.

Pending time we will stop at – the Daintree Ice Cream Co – where you can enjoy deliciously exotic fruit ice cream made on site, in small artisan style batches. Yum! [At own cost.]

Then it’s back on to the bus for the return journey to Cairns, including a quick drive through Port Douglas, a picturesque beachside village with a laid-back vibe and loads of bars and cafes.

What if I have dietary requirements? All dietary requirements must be notified at the time of reservation, or at least 48 hours' notice before travel. We cater for most requirements.

Is the tour wheelchair / disabled-friendly?

Due to the remoteness, the ruggedness of the area, steps and uneven ground on the National Park Boardwalks and into Emmagen Creek, passengers must be able to take walking steps by themselves or with the aid of their own carer. Wheelchairs must be small compact collapsible chairs as space is limited. This must be checked at the time of reservation and confirmed at least 48 hours prior to the tour. Billy Tea Staff are unable to assist with any lifting or assistance due to insurance liability and not being the authorised carer.

What level of fitness is required?

The Daintree Rainforest Tour requires a beginner's level of fitness. The boardwalk tour through the rainforest with your guide is at a very leisurely pace and is approximately a 1km round trip. If you prefer to wait for the group to return, there is a seating area at the entrance of this boardwalk for you to wait for the group to return.

Is Wifi available? No, due to the remoteness of the area, we can not provide WiFi in our vehicles. This may also mean limited mobile reception throughout the day as well.

What our customers say:

"Loved this! A very full day with lots of variety in nature. Steven our guide was excellent and we learned so much about Australian history, plants and the land throughout the day. Excellently organised, professional guides. I would certainly recommend this as a great way to see and learn about the area." - Kendra R, via TripAdvisor

"I highly recommend this trip. Gavin, our tour guide, was excellent in telling us about the culture, the history of the area and of course the nature we passed through. The mix of driving, short walks, stops, bbq, ice cream and fruits, a quick swim and boat trip gave a good variety to the day. We really had a great and interesting day!" - Gabben, via TripAdvisor

"I went on the one day Daintree trip with Hirani as a guide. We had a party of 4 adults one child (with special needs). We (adults) have all done a significant amount of international travel, really quite a lot. We all just wanted to pay tribute to Hirani - she is truly excellent. Great attitude, happy, friendly and an immense amount of knowledge about the area, wildlife, history, indigenous culture etc. Hirani is as good a guide as any of us have seen, and we have done hundreds of tours all around the world. With Hirani working for you, people will keep coming back and word of mouth will just spread. An excellent job Hirani, and thank you to Billy Tea Tours." - Regards Jonathan Ryan , Hanh Tran, Brett and Kate Bonser, Darcy Ryan

"The journey and 4x4 were extremely comfortable and the day was well-paced. Lunch was excellent and the Billy Tea by the creek particularly stood out as an experience. Would definitely recommend!"  - I689HL, via TripAdvisor

Cape Tribulation

Cape tribulation …where the rainforest meets the reef.

With World Heritage attractions such as the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest, a visit to Cape Tribulation in the Tropical North is filled with unforgettable memories. The rainforest, abundant with wildlife, offers visitors a true tropical forest experience with magnificent bird life and ancient plants.  With the Great Barrier Reef just a stone’s throw away, visitors are able explore one of the greatest natural wonders of the world. This is a snorkelling paradise, teemed with colourful tropical fish and coral.

Renowned for it’s scenic landscape, remote beaches and the world heritage rainforest of Daintree National Park, Cape Tribulation Beach is at the end of the sealed road, 35 kilometres north of the Daintree River Ferry.  Cape Trib is also home to 2 interpretive walks – Dubuji Boardwalk (a 1.8 km boardwalk through the forest and mangroves) and Maardja Botanical Walk (a boardwalk and pathway through the high value Daintree coastal rainforest). Maardja is 10 minutes south of town while Dubuji is off the main street and exits onto Myall Beach.

Cape Tribulation valley resembles a giant amphitheatre, with a semicircle of hills dominated by Mt Sorrow (850m) and Mt Hemmant (1000m). The southeastern rain, trapped by this valley, results in a tropical climate with high temperatures, humidity and rainfall – ideal for growing rare tropical fruit. Two farms at Cape Tribulation grow fruit normally found only in equatorial areas.

The name Cape Tribulation can be traced back to Lieutenant James Cook who was trying to find a way through, what he described as ‘the insane labyrinth’. His ship ran into Endeavour Reef, north-northeast of Cape Tribulation. He wrote: “I name this point Cape Tribulation, because here began all my troubles.”

Cape Tribulation tour with Ocean Safari

A visit to the Daintree isn’t complete without a Cape Trib tour to the Great Barrier Reef with Ocean Safari . How extreme is the zipline?

Our ziplines are designed for guests to fly at a gentle and relaxing pace to enjoy the serenity of the rainforest!

What do I bring?

  • Comfortable  weather appropriate clothing and a light raincoat if it is raining. For ziplining, we do not recommend crop tops, skirts or shorts as they can ride up when in the harness
  • Fully enclosed, secure footwear to walk and zipline in
  • We supply filtered water so recommend bringing your own water bottle for refills
  • We supply morning tea and lunch. You are welcome to bring additional snacks and drinks. Please ensure you leave no rubbish behind
  • Please bring swimwear, towel and a change of clothes if you intend on swimming at Heritage lodge.

Can I bring infants or toddlers under 3 years old?

We do not recommend bringing your little one on a tour unless you arrange a  Private Charter Tour  to tailor make the day. It is a big day in a vehicle and in the rainforest so they may get restless nor will understand the in depth commentary from the guide.

What time will I return?

Do you do free return transfers.
