Jenna brings a decade of client service and project management experience to the Element team. With a background in advertising, brand development and web, she has worked on strategy, messaging and production for a range of organizations from large corporations, to start ups, and non-profit groups.

She holds a Bachelor of Science from Purdue University where she studied Retail Management and Organizational Leadership. Jenna has served on boards for United Way of Anchorage and the American Marketing Association Alaska Chapter.

Shelby Ellingsen

Production manager.

Born and raised in Sitka, Shelby spent her summers commercial fishing for Dungeness crab with her family. While her time on the water formed an unbreakable bond between Shelby and the love she feels for Southeast Alaska, she wanted to see the world. After graduating from the Metropolitan State University of Denver summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations, Shelby spent a decade traveling, volunteering, and living abroad. During this time, Shelby shared her travel adventures on social media and successfully grew her personal Instagram account to over 14K followers. After realizing there’s no place quite like Sitka on a sunny day, Shelby settled back into island life.

Shelby brings her enthusiasm and love of a color-coded calendar to Element as the production manager. She lives for the nitty gritty tasks and finds joy in researching new systems and procedures to make sure things are running as efficiently as possible. Her attention to detail and organizational skills ensure that every project Element takes on is executed in the most productive and effective manner possible.

Rachel Klein

Communications strategist.

As Element’s lead social media strategist, Rachel oversees social strategy, production and content curation for a variety of clients and platforms.

With a clean eye for design, a precocious aptitude for social strategy, and an uncanny ability to write engaging content, Rachel has organically grown her personal Instagram account, @thenortherncurrent , to over 11k followers. She uses this social media savviness to help Element clients better reach, attract and communicate with their audiences, and to develop a strong brand voice.

Rachel hails from Bristol Bay and obtained an English degree and a Masters in Education from Washington’s Pacific Lutheran University. Rachel is also the co-owner of Galanin + Klein , a brick and mortar boutique located in Sitka.

Ramie Kraun

Ramie is an independent designer and visual artist driven to create work that is captivating and informative. With a background in printmaking and photography, she has always been passionate about visual communication and mixed media storytelling. Her coastal heritage and love for wild places drive her design work forward to build meaningful relationships and inspire stewardship of our natural world. Ramie is Alaska Native and returns home every summer to her ancestral village of South Naknek to catch the annual Bristol Bay sockeye salmon run. She is a recent graduate of the Seattle Central Creative Academy and holds a BA in Visual Art from the University of Washington Seattle.

Jerrod Galanin

Artist & consultant.

Born and raised in Sitka, Jerrod comes from a long lineage of Tlingit artists   spanning multiple generations, who live in the truth that their art is a calling more than it is a career. Jerrod grew up watching his father and uncle, both professional artists who were also his primary mentors, practice and speak about their art and culture through skills and stories. He lives in awe of the Tlingit art form’s visual language and the way it can embody both simple elegance and infinite complexity at the same time. Through his work, which can be found in galleries across Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, Jerrod strives to stay true to those before him. His hope is to share with the world the beauty and sophistication of his culture and its art.

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS

CUSTOMIZED JUST FOR US We knew a Caribbean cruise would be an amazing vacation, but this truly exceeded our expectations. Traveling with a son with special needs, we were really concerned about accessibility, but we were taken care of from the moment we landed in Miami throughout our entire cruise. The attention to detail was incredible, our agent really thought of absolutely everything so we never had to worry about a thing. Being able to relax and seeing our son smile was worth every penny.

A BANG FOR OUR BUCK If you’ve never used an agent before, I HIGHLY recommend starting now. We actually SAVED money and because our agent has VIP status with the cruise line, we ended up being upgraded to a suite on the opposite side of the ship so we had amazing views of the coast every single time we pulled into port. We should have been using an agent long ago. After sipping our coffee in our pajamas watching the sun rise over the Mediterranean from our veranda, we will never go back to booking on our own ever again.

CRUISING SPAIN, FRANCE, ITALY & GREECE My husband and I really wanted to do a Mediterranean cruise for our honeymoon, but we really had no idea where to start and researching options was so overwhelming. We had never used an agent before, but we will never go back to trying to plan our own vacations after this. Our agent knew the perfect cruise right away. She arranged a three-day tour in Barcelona before we departed on our cruise and it couldn’t have been more perfect. From sending us all our documents in advance to staff knowing our names as soon as we showed up, our agent made it all so easy.

—Christine B.

BUCKET LIST AFRICAN SAFARI I can’t recommend our agent enough!! We just returned from a two-week safari in Africa. We visited three countries with ten different stops like Masai Mara National Reserve, Serengeti National Park and more. Considering all the planning that went into this trip for transfers and accommodations in each stop, our agent didn’t just pull it off, she made it a bucket list trip we will never forget. We couldn’t have done this without her and will definitely be using her again. We can’t wait to start planning our next trip!

DREAM WEDDING IN MEXICO I’ve always wanted to have a destination wedding, but I never thought it would be possible. Our agent made that dream a reality and we got married on a picturesque secluded beach in Riviera Maya with enough of our budget left over to plan a separate honeymoon. I was SO impressed with everything she did. Not only did our agent get a special rate for our family members to stay at the same resort, she also surprised us with a special sunset catamaran cruise as a wedding gift and even sent little gifts for the bridal party! All the personal touches made it really special.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is social media marketing.

Social media marketing is the promotion of brands, products, and services that takes place on social media platforms. Social media marketing may be done through organic posts—these are the unpaid posts and content that brands make on various social platforms, just as individuals post on social platforms. It also includes paid and sponsored posts on social media sites, such as boosted Facebook posts and Instagram ads.

Why is social media important for business?

One of the major ways social media is important is because it lets businesses access and engage with consumers where those consumers spend a great deal of their time. In fact, an average user spends two hours and 24 minutes per day on social media, and by 2021, an estimated three billion people will be on social media globally. With this incredible reach, it’s no wonder that businesses are eager to promote on social platforms. Benefits of social media marketing can include:

  • A low-cost way to engage organically with target audiences
  • Potential for expanded reach of a brand message if people like, share, or comment on posts
  • Ability to leverage consumer-generated content to get more exposure
  • Easily segregate marketing by demographics on various platforms
  • Extra authority for a brand online

How do you market on social media?

It depends on the advertising company’s audience, brand message, and style. Some ways businesses market themselves on social media include, but aren't limited to:

  • Sharing helpful, funny, or thought-provoking content relevant to the brand that people are likely to share
  • Sharing content from others to help create an authority page people return to often
  • Asking questions and hosting polls to spark user engagement
  • Hosting contests and giveaways to drive consumer interest and promote sharing
  • Linking from social posts back to websites and other brand content

What is the most used social media platform?

Facebook is the most-used social media platform in the world. As of 2020, it had more than 2.6 billion active users. In the U.S., more than 75% of active Facebook users log in daily. Behind Facebook, the next most-used social media platforms globally are YouTube and WhatsApp. In the United States, Instagram and Twitter come after Facebook and YouTube.

What is a social media campaign?

A social media campaign is an organized effort to get a message to consumers about a specific brand, product, or promotion. Campaign components can include a strategy or plan, assets, such as text and image content, a publishing schedule, and follow up. The campaign typically links to other marketing assets, such as a website landing page.

How do you create a social media strategy?

A social media strategy keeps a brand on target as it works through various campaigns. Steps to creating a strategy typically include:

  • Identifying the audience and which social platforms are best for connecting with those consumers
  • Defining the goals, including what action the business wants consumers to take
  • Brainstorming and creating various content
  • Scheduling content for appropriate posting times—brands may need to test days and times to see which ones support the highest engagement and conversion rates
  • Following through with the social media posting calendar

How do you plan content for social media?

Typically, brands start with overall categories and topics. They decide how many posts need to be posted per day or week and divide those up among the categories. Specific posts are created to match those needs and are scheduled in social media publishing tools, such as Hootsuite, to automate much of the process.

Marketing in Online Travel Agency

Understanding the travel agency market

  • Leading players holding the market. Booking Holdings with its 41 percent share and Expedia with about 32 percent are dominating the online travel agencies market. And their shares keep growing. So, for travel agencies, it’s difficult to stay afloat without a specific niche.
  • Distrust. People tend to be skeptical and even suspicious in arranging their trips. They would rather follow word of mouth, go to their old, time-tested local travel agent, or stick to larger players, even if they are not totally satisfied. So, new travel agencies have to work hard to break through the wall of mistrust.
  • Invisibility. Unless a travel provider puts a lot of effort and resources into promotion, it risks staying unnoticed. Here, the choice of distribution channel plays a decisive role.

Putin taunts the West with 'first ever' visit to remote ice-covered 'frontier region' just 55 miles from the US - as Zelensky tries to drum up war support in Lithuania

  • Chukotka is Russia's easternmost region, sharing a maritime border with Alaska

President Vladimir Putin  has arrived for his first-ever presidential visit to Chukotka in Russia 's Far East - just 55 miles from the US state of Alaska .

Putin arrived in Anadyr, the local capital of the Chukotka region this morning after flying from Moscow some nine time zones away.

Chukotka is the easternmost region of Russia, with a maritime border on the Bering Strait with Alaska.

The Russian president was met in Anadyr by a motorcade and was whisked away in a limousine amid frigid temperatures of -28C.

It's the closest he has come to US soil since he met with President  Barack Obama in New York City in 2015.

Chukotka is so close to Alaska that Roman Abramovich - the ex-Chelsea FC owner - was reported to fly to Anchorage in Alaska for lunch when he was the governor of the region from 2001 - 2008.

Putin's visit comes at a time when US-Russian relations are at their lowest ebb in decades amid the war in Ukraine and a growing East-West divide.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today landed in Lithuania as part of an unannounced trip to the Baltic states to drum up more support for the conflict.

Global war for control of the ARCTIC: Climate change is unlocking untapped natural resources, new trade routes... and a new international conflict that RUSSIA is already winning

The three Baltic states - all former Soviet republics which are now EU and NATO members - are among Ukraine's staunchest allies.

'Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are our reliable friends and principled partners. Today, I arrived in Vilnius before going to Tallinn and Riga,' Zelensky said on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

'Security, EU and NATO integration, cooperation on electronic warfare and drones, and further coordination of European support are all on the agenda,' he said.

The Baltic tour marks Zelensky's first official trip abroad this year.

In Lithuania, a key donor to Ukraine, Zelensky said he will hold talks with the president, prime minister and the speaker of parliament, and meet with the Ukrainian community.

The visit comes as other Kyiv allies waver on fresh aid, nearly two years into Russia's invasion.

Ukraine has come under intense Russian shelling in recent weeks, retaliating with strikes on Russia's border city of Belgorod.

Zelensky has urged allies to keep military support flowing and held in-person talks with officials from the United States, Germany and Norway last month.

But an EU aid package worth 50 billion euros ($55 billion) has been stuck in Brussels following a veto by Hungary, while the US Congress remains divided on sending additional aid to Ukraine.

Following his trip to Chukotka, Putin is expected to visit several regions in the Russian Far East to boost his re-election campaign amid the war with Ukraine, which has seen more than 300,000 Russians killed or maimed.

He is due to stand in March, seeking another six years in the Kremlin.

The only Kremlin leader ever to travel to Chukotka previously was Dmitry Medvedev in 2008.

Putin's trip sees him escape a wave of ugly protests in western Russia over hundreds of thousands of people scraping by in freezing conditions due to breakdowns in communal heating supplies.

In Elektrostal, Moscow region, desperate residents say they have had no communal heating - which Russians routinely expect the state to supply usually through piped hot water - for the entire winter so far.

'We have been without heating since [9 October],' one resident said in a video circulating on Telegram.

'It is impossible to be in our homes… We are freezing! We are freezing! We are freezing!' they said.
