Description of the Free Tour

In this Free Tour you will visit the two most important neighborhoods of Granada: the Albaicín and the Sacromonte. . Both, very rich in terms of heritage and culture, were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984.

The Albaicín is the neighborhood with the most history in Granada. You will walk through its narrow cobbled streets and the Cármenes, unique houses in the world as a result of the union of two cultures: Arab and Christian. You will also get to know the Mudejar churches , the cisterns and the Mirador de San Nicolás, where you can contemplate some of the best views in the world. They will also enter the courtyard of the New Mosque, inaugurated in 2003, where they will be able to soak up the Muslim culture and its traditions.

After the Albaicín they will go through Sacromonte, a gypsy neighborhood famous for its cave houses. These buildings, unique in the world, have their own personality like the rest of the neighborhood. In the Sacromonte they will be transported to another era, in a reference place for flamenco and the gypsy zambra. All this while contemplating the entire city of Granada and the Alhambra.

En este free tour de los Reyes Católicos  repasaremos  una de las etapas históricas más importantes de Granada . Visitaremos la Catedral, la Capilla Real y la Alcaicería. ¡Os encantará!

Nos encontraremos a la hora indicada en la plaza de Bib-Rambla  para comenzar este free tour de los Reyes Católicos por Granada . Este   recorrido nos llevará directamente al siglo XV para conocer el legado de Isabel I de Castilla y Fernando II de Aragón .

En esta céntrica plaza os contaremos la relación de los Reyes Católicos con Granada, capital de un emirato autónomo y el centro más importante de la España morisca . Desde que Isabel de Castilla subiera al trono, una de sus grandes ambiciones era acabar con el poder islámico en la Península . Y no cesó hasta conseguirlo.

Nos acercaremos a la Catedral , ordenada construir por los Reyes Católicos tras la toma de la ciudad en 1492  y con el fin de otorgarle a Granada un gran templo gótico que acogiera los restos de Isabel y Fernando.

Seguiremos el tour admirando el exterior de la iglesia Sagrario y paseando por las estrechas calles de la Alcaicería . Así, llegaremos al Corral del Carbón , una joya del siglo XIV que muestra la belleza de la arquitectura granadina de la época.

La siguiente parada la realizaremos en la plaza de Isabel la Católica , donde veremos el monumento dedicado a la reina y a Cristóbal Colón en las Capitulaciones de Santa Fe . ¡Aprenderemos todo sobre este histórico momento!

Para terminar, nos detendremos ante la Madraza y la Capilla Real , donde reposan los restos de los Reyes Católicos. Y es que, a pesar de que iban a ser enterrados en la Catedral, la repentina muerte de la reina hizo que se construyera en primer lugar esta capilla. Accederemos a este austero edificio y contemplaremos la tumba de los Reyes Católicos .

Tras una hora y media conociendo el legado de los Reyes Católicos en la ciudad nazarí, daremos por finalizado el free tour en el exterior del monumento. ¡Hasta la próxima!

You can’t get to know Granada without visiting its origin, the Albaicin quarter. Situated on a hill in front of the Alhambra the neighborhood is a magnificent viewpoint from which you can appreciate the red fortress from any of its angles. Its labyrinthic and winding streets respond to its Muslim origin by combining the typical Arab constructions, with their impeccable whitewash, and Renaissance towers. Walk its streets and soak up the smell of orange blossom and jasmine from its traditional ‘cármenes’, see the busiest squares in the neighborhood where tradition and modernity merge and let yourself be carried away by the spirit that roams the streets of this beautiful neighborhood. Right next to the Albaicín we find the valley of Valparaíso, a natural enclave of the Sacromonte district. Flamenco and art flood each of its corners, the caves on the hill become flamenco stages and the guitars carry the rhythm of this unique neighborhood.
