Go On A Zipline Canopy Adventure Around San Diego

Zipline tours offer nature lovers the opportunity to fly through the treetops on a network of cables and view spectacular scenery from a new perspective. This is a one-of-a-kind experience that energizes and relaxes both body and soul, leaving you primed and ready for more.

Participation Requirements Zipline tours are intended for people who are in reasonably good health. Minimum age varies; check the tour company’s restrictions before you go. A parent or legal guardian must supervise children under age 16. Participants should weigh at least 70 pounds and no more than 250. Closed-toe footwear is required. People who are pregnant, have recurring head, neck, or muscular injuries, are under the influence of drugs that impair their ability or who suffer from an illness that may require medical attention, cannot participate.

Before heading out on a tour, there is a “pre-flight” suit-up involving harness, helmet and braking gloves, followed by orientation lessons on safety and what to expect while sailing through the trees. Participants are taught how to properly land on treetop platforms before taking off again on the next segment of a zipline journey.

An Overview As my family and I discovered, ziplines have become an adrenaline lover’s favorite activity, allowing people to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the terrain while gliding effortlessly through the air at jaw-dropping speeds.

We did precisely that last summer when we went ziplining. After one short ride, we were hooked.

The words of our Catalina Island zipline guide rang in my head as I prepared to glide: “Put your hands on the knobs, step to the edge of the platform and then ease off.”

We sailed through a cluster of treetops and watched as the ground quickly gave way beneath us. The zipline’s downward angle propelled us with a buzzing sound that got louder as we sped up. I leaned back, stretched my legs and looked around, taking in the sunshine and the ground below. The reality of the height and speed at which I was traveling didn’t hit me until I was halfway through the course. I was just settling in for the ride when, there it was—the brake rope. I grabbed it. With a slight jolt, I stepped onto a waiting platform.

The zipline experience is about as close as people can get to actually flying. We felt safe at all times. The guides kept everyone entertained with information about local wildlife and interesting stories about ziplining in the area. I would definitely recommend zipline adventuring. It is an out-of-this-world experience!

The 1-hour Wildlife Safari is the most popular tour at San Diego Safari Park followed by the 90-minute Twilight Wildlife Safari. You go inside the African animal enclosure in an open-air covered truck. Twilight tours add a light meal. Deluxe Safari is 90 minutes long and also tours the Asian enclosures .

The worst thing about these Safaris is that there are sometimes so many opportunities for close-up photos of animals that you won’t know where to point your camera first. The best part of them is that you have the opportunity to feed giraffes if the animals are feeling hungry. Don’t worry, they’re ALWAYS hungry.

Deluxe Safari

What’s Special: The Deluxe Safari provides you with your best chance to pet a rhino. It’s not guaranteed, but it’s more likely than on either of the other truck safaris. Why? Maybe because the One-Horn rhinos in the Asian fields are a bit smaller than the White rhinos in the other safaris? Still, stroking the soft snout of a 3,500-pound animal instead of a 5,000-pound one is ok with me. And there are always hungry giraffes!

Combine A Truck Safari with a Zipline Experience

If you’ve got teenagers or other adrenalin junkies in your group, try the Deluxe Flightline Safari (further down this page). It combines a shorter truck caravan safari with a 3,520-foot zipline ride. Same cost, but more experiences!

Feeding a giraffe on a San Diego Caravan Safari, my sister Mary Beth.

Feed giraffes, but don’t touch them . Keep your hands low during feeding. Raise your hand just a bit so that they can see the acacia leaves. Then let them reach down for the leaves.

Why? They use their heads as battering rams in dominance contests. Your friendly hand reaching towards their head can be viewed as an aggressive gesture. So no high-fives with giraffe horns. That avoids misunderstandings with a creature 10 times your size and makes for better photos as well.

Tips for your San Diego Safari Park Caravan Tour, like the safest way to giraffes like this one following the tour truck.

THIRSTY? Bring drinking water in a container with a closed lid. Sip, don’t guzzle unless you’ve got an iron bladder.

Do you love cheetahs? Then this is San Diego Safari Park’s best tour for you. It’s the very best way to get amazing cheetah photos like the one above.

Duration : 1 hour
Start Time: 8:00 AM on most Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays
Price: $99 – 105. Admission is separate and required for each guest.
Age restrictions: All ages ok. There must be a responsible paid adult present for every 3 children. Children aged 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Proof of age of children may be required.

You’ll get into the park early and meet your experienced guide for a walk down to Shiley’s Cheetah Run . There you’ll see a cheetah fly by at nearly 70 miles per hour from a prime viewing location.

After the cheetah chases the mechanical lure down the track you’ll head down to the Watering Hole at Kijamii Overlook . There you’ll get to see another speedster, this one flying through the air. After all that rushing around, relax with a savory brunch. Enjoy coffee, tea, mimosas, and the only San Diego restaurant view that includes giraffes, rhinos, and antelope.

Purchase your admission ticket(s) in advance online. You will be arriving before the ticket sale booths are open. Have your admission ticket printed or ready to be scanned on your cell phone.
To get the best viewing locations for all of these tour events, arrive about 30 minutes before check-in so you get the first pick. But don’t worry if you can’t be early. There aren’t any “bad” locations.

Cart Safari Tour

A Cart Safari is the best tour at San Diego Safari park if you’ve got small children or babies. The cart is much lower to the ground than the truck used in the Wildlife Safari. It’s much easier to get in and out to view animals while carrying infants or toddlers. The ride is also much smoother since Cart Safaris only go on paved roads.

You’ll have a private tour driver/guide. They’ll be masked and the cart has special screens to social distance your guide from your household group. But they’ll still be able to hear and see you to answer just about any question and direct you to wildlife feeding opportunities and photo stops.

Take an exhilarating flight down a zip line 2/3rds of a mile long. Soar up to 130 feet above herds of wild antelope, giraffes, and rhinos.

You’ll take a training course on the Fledgling run. There you’ll become familiar with the procedures and safety equipment. Once you’re comfortable with the short Fledgling flight, you’ll be transported to the launch platform for the Flightline Safari. You land near the campground at Kilima Point.

Deluxe Flightline Safari

This tour is a very good deal for groups that include restless teenagers looking for a bit more action. It adds a truck caravan tour into the African plains exhibits before your orientation session and zipline flight. You can get up close with the animals, take great photos, and ride the zip line for the price of just the Wildlife Safari truck tour.

Duration : 90 minutes.
Price: $89 – 105

Safety Restrictions: You will be asked to sign a liability waiver. You must be able to understand the waiver and be able to follow instructions in English. There’s a weight limit of between 60 and 300 pounds (your weight may be checked).

The safety harness must fit comfortably. Wear snug-fitting closed-toe shoes. Do not drink alcohol before the Flightline Safari. If the trainers or those assisting you think that you’ve been imbibing you will not be allowed on the zip line.

If you don’t meet all of these qualifications you will be denied access to the zip line and there will be no refunds.

Behind the Scenes Safari Tour

If you’re looking for an insider’s view, these will be San Diego Safari Park’s best safaris for you. There are 3 different safari options available, each focusing on one animal or exhibit area. But no two Behind the Scenes Safari Tours are exactly the same. All of them provide an intimate look at off-exhibit areas that are inaccessible to the general population of Safari Park guests.

You’ll take a ride on a small electric cart and then explore on foot with a guide who’ll fill you in on the park’s animals and conservation initiatives.

Elephants & Friends

Have a close encounter of the pachyderm kind! See the Safari Park elephant herd from a private viewing area. Discover how they’re cared for and what’s being done to protect their wild relatives. Selfie sticks are not permitted on this tour.

Price: $89 – 105 per person. Admission is separate and required for each guest.
Age restrictions: Children 3-15 must be accompanied by a paid adult. A maximum of 2 children per group.

Rhinos & Friends

Get close to rhinos. Explore behind the scenes at Nikita Kahn Rhino Rescue Center. Here the Safari Park staff is developing assisted reproductive techniques that may bring back the Northern White Rhino from functional extinction.

You’ll also take a trip around the park’s large field exhibits and view many other species there. You have to be able to stand or walk for at least 60 minutes to take this tour. Selfie sticks are not permitted here.

Age restrictions: Children 3-15 must be accompanied by a paid adult. A maximum of 2 children per group. A maximum of 2 children per group.

Roar & Snore Safari Tour

Safari Park Roar and Snore tents, animals, food.

In my ever so humble opinion, and that of many others, this is the BEST safari at San Diego Safari Park. You can experience the sights and sounds of sleeping on safari in Africa without traveling there (no extra vaccinations needed!).

Fall asleep to elephants’ rumblings. Wake to the sound of lions roaring. But don’t worry about it being too noisy to sleep. Most of the time it’s so quiet that you can hear the footsteps of giraffes passing by.

What happens at Roar & Snore? Close-up animal encounters, night-time guided walking tours, and a backstage look at some of the animal accommodations. You’ll also enjoy good food, and relaxing around a campfire.

The last time Bob and I went, we saw the inner workings of Lion Camp at night. Did you know that they sometimes put different colored glitter in each lion’s food? Me neither! The colored particles let keepers know which scat belongs to which cat. Examining their feces is just one way that keepers monitor lions’ health.

The sleepovers include a catered hot dinner and breakfast. They’ve got something for everyone with many gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan selections. For adults, there’s a cash bar. And everyone will enjoy sitting around the campfire eating s’mores and listening to the guides and campers trading stories of their wildlife experiences.

Most Roar & Snore Safaris include an evening or early morning Africa Tram ride. It’s magical. The animals in the African multi-species enclosures are at their frisky best. It seems as if they’re trying to get all of their sparring, running, and chasing done in the cooler weather.

The campsite overlooks the African Plains multi-species enclosure loaded with antelope, giraffes, rhinos, gazelles, wildebeests, and many other animals. Clean restrooms and a limited number of showers are available. The tents are clean and spacious.

If you cringe at the thought of sleeping on a cot or the floor of a tent you’ll probably be happier spending the night at a nearby hotel. I’ve written a guide to the best local lodging close to Safari Park .

There was a cash bar for adults during dinner and the campfire experience.

What’s Special: This is a troop oriented event. There are group guided walks, conservation related activities and animal-oriented crafts.

Ultimate Safari Tour

Assemble a Safari Park tour that is customized to your interests and desired activities. Full disclosure, we haven’t been on this safari, but we’re saving up for it! Because of that, I’ve asked a LOT of questions on the phone to the booking team. I hope that you’ll benefit from my research. And if you go before I do, send me pictures!

When you book your Ultimate Safari know the answers to the following questions before you call:

What are your favorite animals?
Are you interested in feeding any of these animals?
Which animal exhibits would you like to see behind the scenes and find out more about how they’re cared for?
Do you have any dietary restrictions? They serve you lunch on this safari. You don’t want this experience spoiled by food that you can’t eat!

Duration: 5 hours. It’s easy to add too many activities and animal experiences to this safari. You’ll have to be selective so you don’t feel rushed. Your planner will help you decide how much to see in the time that you have.

Price: Varies depending upon day and seasonality

$675+ for a 5-hour tour. Priced per person.
$50 – children aged 2 and under
Children aged 15 and under must be with a paid adult

Age and other restrictions: Depends upon the activities you choose.

You must book/reserve your tour at least 72 hours in advance . San Diego Safari Park usually only schedules one Ultimate Safari per day. The animals need to be fed and cared for daily and their keepers need to be notified so they can make special accommodations for Ultimate Safari visitors.

Balloon Safari

Soar 400 feet up in a helium balloon. You’ll have great views of San Diego Safari Park and the San Pasqual Valley agricultural area that surrounds the park.

Duration: About 30 minutes. You’ll spend 10 to 12 minutes at the highest viewing point.

Price: Varies depending upon peak hours and days. Plan on spending $20 or less. Reservations are NOT available online. Pay at the gate.

Ages restrictions: All ages.

Tips: The best times to fly are between 9:00 AM and noon, but it’s open until sunset. The ride may shut down due to windy or rainy conditions. Afternoons in Escondido can be windy. The balloon is grounded shortly before Cheetah Run at about 3:00 PM and afterward while any cheetahs remain near the Shiley’s Cheetah Run track.

Africa Tram Tour

Africa Tram is San Diego Zoo Safari Park’s best tour if you’re on a budget . It’s one of the highlights of the park. And it’s free with your park entrance ticket! We’ve ridden this attraction hundreds of times and plan to do it many more.

You get to see dozens of species at once, and they’re always doing something new. The many thousands of rare plants surrounding you and the over 900 acres of open California Sage Scrub habitat make it even more appealing.

Duration: 25 – 30 minutes.

Price: FREE with your paid admission to Safari Park, except for children in school groups. Ride as many times as you want to.

Ages restrictions: All ages. Children under 2 years of age must remain in their parent’s lap.

Skip this one if you have booked a Caravan or Cart Safari, and you are feeling like you don’t have time to see everything on your list.
In a rush? You can purchase priority boarding. Check the kiosk at the entrance to the Africa Tram queue.
When’s the best time to ride the Africa Tram? The peak hours are from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. So anytime before or after will be good. The animals are most active when the weather is cool. Many people try to take the first Africa Tram trip or one of the last ones for that reason. But there’s really not that much difference. You’re going to see spectacular creatures whenever you go.
Where’s the best place to sit? We like sitting in the 2nd or 3rd car. The first car can be a bit noisy. However, that car is the only one with accessible seating for those with mobility issues. So it may be best for you.
Which side of the tram is best? You’ll see animals on both sides. And you are encouraged to stand up if the vehicle is not moving. So you’ll be able to take great photos no matter where you sit. However, the cheetahs, zebras, and most giraffes and rhinos are on the right side.
Expect long lines on weekends & holidays. There are signs that tell you approximately how long the wait times are. They are fairly accurate. The longest times are from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.The wait times are shorter during Cheetah Run (around 3:30 PM). We also like late afternoon trips because it’s getting cooler and they’re less crowded. The last trip of the day starts 45 minutes before the park closes.
Request an “Easy Access Pass” if you have difficulty standing for long periods or are of limited mobility. With this pass, any guest with a disability and 3 additional members of your group, can be directed to a separate boarding area. Park employees are glad to provide extra boarding and disembarking assistance (if requested), to those boarding from the Easy Access areas.

7 Tips for Better Safari Tours

Save money by reserving in advance versus purchasing the same day in the park. Plus you’ll be more likely to be able to choose a convenient time.
Get the best deal by booking on non-peak days . Safari Tour tickets generally cost less on weekdays. Non-holiday Mondays and Tuesdays are the cheapest. Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays are a bit more expensive. You’ll pay the most on weekends and holidays.
Include parking fees in your budget. Parking is not included and must be paid upon arrival at the parking entrance to Safari Park. Parking costs $15 for passenger vehicles and $20 for RVs. You can have preferred parking by adding $18 to either of the parking fees. “Preferred parking” means that you get a spot close to the entry/exit and you don’t have to walk uphill to get to the Park entrance.
Arrive a minimum of 45 minutes before your tour or safari . This will allow time for you to travel from your parking or drop-off point to your safari check-in location. Leave earlier during holidays and on Friday afternoons when the traffic is usually heavier.
Check in 10 minutes before the beginning of your safari.
Know where your safari check-in location is. Check their map from the San Diego Safari Park website before you arrive.

About Refunds or Cancellations of San Diego Safari Park Tours or Safaris

There are no refunds if you arrive late or are a no-show.
Make changes or cancellations early! There are no changes or cancellations less than 5 days before the date of your safari.
What if you get sick? Call them at 619-718-3000 as soon as you know that you can’t go. Their Reservations Sales Department is open every day at 8:30 AM. They will need your Order Number, so have it with you when you call.
Pay attention to the age limits and other restrictions for certain safaris. You won’t be given a refund at the last minute because you didn’t read the tour descriptions.
The park reserves the right to cancel any safari or tour because of bad weather, animal welfare concerns or concerns for your safety. If they have to cancel your safari they try to do it as soon as possible and do their best to reschedule your safari at your convenience. If you cannot reschedule, your money will be refunded. However, if it’s raining and they don’t call to cancel, enjoy! The park can be wonderful when it’s wet. Check out my article on how to enjoy San Diego Safari Park if it rains.

Closing Thoughts

Take the Caravan Safari Deluxe or the Ultimate Safari if you’re visiting for the first time and may not be returning for a long while. Splurge a bit. If you’re feeling guilty about the extra expense, tell yourself that you’re spending the extra cash to help end wildlife extinction.

If one of the paid safari experiences is not in your budget, then take the Africa Tram. Maybe twice. Once in the morning and again right before closing time.

Great trip to the wild animal park. The zip line tour was a lot of fun. Added the deluxe package which added some better close up views of the animals. Would do it again.

So ima be honest, I did the zoo one day and the safari the next. If I had to choose the best it would be the safari. But only go to the safari if you are going to do at least 1 extra safari that you pay for. Way worth it. The tram was working again and the line was long but you could pay $20 per person and skip the line and walk straight to being next in line which was way worth it than waiting over an hour. I also did the hot air balloon thing which was $20 each as well.also Worth it for the money. By the time I finished all those 3 things it was 3pm and I got there at 11am. Have some kind of plan as to what you’re going to do cause it’s a lot of walking. My only negative comment is the app. It just isn’t great in planning your trip. Or following along on the map. But that is me being picky. If I come back to San Diego I am going to do the safari again over the zoo and do a different safari experience.

I have been to the Safari Park several times because I have an annual membership, but I finally booked an additional experience and did the Deluxe Flightline Safari! Definitely worth the extra money to get a short safari tour plus the zipline. Jerrett was our guide and he really made our experience enjoyable. He was funny and knowledgeable and you can tell he truly enjoys his job. Highly recommend!

We did the ultimate safari and Sam, our guide, was great. She was well informed, patient, so kind with my daughter, and showed us a wonderful different perspective. We had a great time and highly recommend seeing the Safari Park this way.

We enjoy the tram ride and the close encounters. The opportunity for a year-round adventure is exciting to me.

About Flightline at the Safari Park

Flightline Safari is the ultimate recreational experience for those looking for excitement.

Secure and comfortable in your harness, you will soar as high as 130 feet above the ground with rhinos, giraffe, and more in the fields below you.

The Flightline experience includes the use of safety equipment, an orientation, a brief interpretive tour, and a flight on our two ziplines.

The first zipline is the Fledgling run.

It is approximately 400 feet long and carries you through fragrant, shady trees to prepare you for your final Flightline experience.

Once "fledged," you board a Flightline truck for a guided tour to the upper launch area of our main Flightline.

Upon arriving at the final launch platform, you will have breath taking views of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and of the large animal enclosures below.

Your guide will once again hook your harness onto the Flightline "trolley" and you're ready to fly approxiamately 2/3 of a mile, landing safely near our campground at the Park's Kilima Point.

Flight Requirements:

“One last thing before you fly,” said Chelsey, the Flightline Safari tour guide, calmly. “Do not scream. You’ll alarm the rhinos, and they’ll start a stampede.”

There I was, standing 160-feet above unidentifiable-but-still-threatening animals, about to soar over them at 50 miles-per-hour, being told to keep all of the yelling I had planned on doing on the inside.

Now that’s the real challenge. Let’s back up to the beginning.

The latest dare for this series - to go ziplining - had me surprised to find that the San Diego Zoo Safari Park boasts its very own wire ride. Despite living here for nine years, I never knew that we could zip across wild animals, right in our own backyard.

The Flightline Safari is actually the longest continuous zipline in California and one of the longest in the world. It opened in 2009 and runs two-thirds of a mile over the Asian and African animal exhibits.

The experience began when I met the peppy Flightline team first thing in the morning, and they sat me down to watch a brief pre-flight training video. I then strapped into my gear, and we walked to what they call the “fledgling run,” a practice zip only 470-feet long to get a feel for what will happen on the real deal. I whizzed through the trees on this short flight, as nerves slowly perked up. The toughest part? My legs flew into the sky upon landing, a bit abrupt when the catch stopped my speed rather quickly.

Next up, the guides and I packed into a safari car to drive up to the top of the mountain where the launching pad overlooks the stunning San Pasqual Valley. The ride itself provides a behind-the-scenes tour of the 1,800 acre park while the staff point out elephants, condors, succulent gardens and more, emphasizing the remarkable conservation progress made by the San Diego Zoo.

Standing on the ledge overlooking the vast landscape below, my fear of heights began to bubble up. It’s an unbeatable view of the Safari Park though, and a vantage point that can rarely be seen. Chelsey led me to the edge, hooked my harness into the cable trolley, and reminded me, once again, not to scream.

Right. Got it.

“3... 2... 1...” she counted down, as I held my breath and clenched my fists. After about two seconds of fear overtaking all common sense, I relaxed a bit in the hammock-like contraption. It was beautiful, serene, peaceful even. It certainly didn’t feel like 50 miles-per-hour, but more like a gentle float through the clouds.

Below, I could see grazing antelope and even a few rhinos, although most of them blended in with the rocks. It’s such a unique way to see the park and get a true bird’s eye-view of the animals. I focused on taking it all in, as the wind whipped past my face. I was sure to keep my mouth shut, but inside I was screaming something like, “WOOOOOAAAHHH!”

Two minutes later, the ride ends. The second my feet hit the ground, I was itching to go again.

The entire experience, from start to finish, takes about an hour. The Flightline Safari is available for ages eight-and-up and between 60 and 300 pounds. You can fly up to four at a time, which would make for a memorable family experience.

Ziplining over the safari sounds like something that is too good to be true. Is it?

No! You can actually zipline at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park with a bird's eye view over giraffes, rhinos, and other wildlife.

What's Included in This Experience

As one of the longest ziplines in all of California, this zipline is one that you'll remember forever.

Opened in 2009, this zipline ride spans over 2/3's of a mile as riders fly 130 feet above the ground, while seeing animals from the Asian Savanna and the African Plains.

You'll travel at fast enough speeds to get a nice breeze, but slow enough where you can still enjoy the scenery and the animals that you encounter.

What You Can Expect

When you arrive to ride the zipline, you'll be pleased to know that there's several steps that you have to take prior to doing the actual experience.

The ride attendants will help you put on all of your gear appropriately.
You'll store all of your belongings in a safe area, where it will be waiting for you at the end of the ride.
A safety video will be shown.
You'll go through a 'practice' zipline called the Fledgling Run, which is a small zipline which allows you to get a feel for what you're going to experience.
You'll then ride with your 'party' in a Safari truck up a hill to actually arrive to the zipline that you'll be riding. On the way you'll see a lot of the behind-the-scenes, and see some animals and different types of plant-life.
During this time, the tour guide will share different types of facts regarding the park, zipline and wildlife
Then it's time to get off of the vehicle and make your way over to the zipline
You'll sit down, get strapped on and now it's time to enjoy this unique and amazing ride. Keep an eye for animals that you'll see!
Near the end of the ride, the zipline will use the self-braking and giant springs for a smooth and safe stop.

They're pretty similar however the Deluxe Flightline Safari also offers a tour around the Safari Park’s expansive savanna habitats by Safari truck, to learn about some of the Park's unique wildlife species.

The La Jolla Indian Reservation consists of nearly 10,000 acres located at the base of Palomar Mountain in Northern San Diego County, California. Most of the land is undisturbed wilderness and is covered with many native plants and trees such as sage, chia, berries and many oak trees for making wiiwish (acorn pudding). There is also game such as deer and rabbit. These plants and game make up a small portion of our traditional food, all of which are still consumed by tribal members today.

La Jolla Indian Campground is the only campground in San Diego with river access and river tubing. It’s beautifully located just 40 minutes east of Escondido in Pauma Valley. There are tent camping and RV camping sites. Visit us and get out of the crowds.

Stayed three nights and the site was great and the place was clean. The kids found many things in the river, such as crawdads, fish and frogs. The place also had dragonflies, damselflies, butterflies and many birds. Will definitely go back.

The campgrounds were very organized and clean. Our spot was right next to the water and the kids had a blast playing. We met other families and had a quick two day stay. Looking forward to coming back for some tubing.

One of my favorite places in San Diego. I have been camping there for 20+ years. I enjoyed relaxing with a book and some cold drinks. It was just what I needed and I can’t wait to go back. I love La Jolla campground!

The staff at La Jolla Indian campground are the greatest and they always help out. They are all friendly including staff at night with great attitudes. I love the surroundings and being able to relax with family and friends.

Tahoe City Treetop in Tahoe City, California offers a different experience from most ziplining tours. Instead of an instructor or tour guide clipping you in, they’ll train you to use the harness and land safely on the platform.

The 27 ziplines are part of an overall aerial adventure course involving bridges and platforms high in the canopy.

With ten different courses available, all abilities are welcome, from beginner to advanced zipliners. Participants must be 49” tall and over the age of six.

This zipline park is a fun option if you want a ropes course adventure in addition to zooming through a red cedar and pine forest with stunning views of Lake Tahoe .

Tahoe City Treetop is one of three aerial adventure parks based in Tahoe and run by Tahoe Treetop Adventure Parks.

The other two are Tahoe Vista Treetop and Olympic Valley Treetop. Of the three Tahoe Treetop Adventure Parks, Tahoe Vista Treetop has the longest zipline.

Quarry Park is open year-round, so this is an excellent option if you’re heading to Tahoe during the winter season.

Quarry Park has a unique location as the only aerial zipline adventure park in California–and the entire U.S.– built from a disused rock quarry, so you’ll be zooming through mountainous terrain on your zip line adventure.

The entire zipline park is very kid-friendly, with activities suitable for younger kids in addition to the ziplines. The zipline course has no age limitation, although all participants must weigh at least 70 lbs.

There are two side-by-side ziplines, so you can ride next to a family member or friend as you hurtle through the quarry. Ziplines are just one activity at this park, so if your main focus is a zip line course, you may want to consider an alternative.

However, this is a great option if you want a full day of fun outdoor adventures with multiple activities.

Action Tours California

Action Tours California in Big Bear Lake is another year-round zipline tours operator, offering intrepid customers the chance to soar over a snow-covered mountain in Big Bear.

The zipline course takes about three hours to complete and consists of nine ziplines that become longer, higher from the ground, and faster as you progress on your trip.

You’ll get fabulous views of the mountains and the valley around Big Bear Lake during the experience.

The half-day zipline adventure includes pick-up from Big Bear Lake Village and transport in an off-road vehicle through the forest to the ziplines.

The Canopy Tour takes 3.5 hours to traverse nine ziplines through the canopy, up to 300 feet off the forest floor.

The Mountain View Tour comprises six ziplines over 2.5 hours and features a unique “leap of faith” from a tree platform.

If you’re looking for the best zipline in Los Angeles’ surrounding area, head to Ziplines at Pacific Crest in the San Gabriel Mountains. You might not be ziplining in Hollywood, but you’ll be experiencing some of the best ziplining in Southern California.

Mount Hermon Adventures

Mount Hermon Adventures , based in the Santa Cruz Mountains, is an aerial zipline adventure park deep in the California redwoods.

There are two zipline challenges to attempt at Mount Hermon Adventures, the Sequoia Aerial Adventures course, and the Redwood Canopy Tour.

The Sequoia Aerial Adventure is ideal for those looking for challenging zipline tours, with 40 elements, including two ziplines.

The Redwood Canopy Tour consists of six ziplines at a maximum of 150 feet, keeping you continuously in the branches.

Coastal redwoods are the tallest tree species in the world, and this redwood zipline experience gives you a close encounter with these incredible trees.

Families are welcome at Mount Hermon Adventures, but kids must be ten or older to participate.

Vista Lago Adventure Park

About halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, on California’s sunny Central Coast, is Vista Lago Adventure Park .

At Vista Lago, you’ll find several levels of rope adventure courses, from beginner to advanced challenges, plus three ziplines.

Vista Lago Adventure Park is suitable for a range of abilities and ages, with a section for 5-8-year-olds who are too young to tackle the bigger ropes course.

Go for the ziplines as part of a ropes course challenge, or pick the Just Zip It package and enjoy the three ziplines without all the climbing.

After ziplining, re-fuel at the on-site restaurant with a burger or toast to your zipline flight with a glass of wine.

Tahoe Vista Treetop

Tahoe Vista Treetop is one of three Tahoe Treetop Adventure Parks in Tahoe. Like its sister park, Tahoe City Treetop, this fun adventure park has several ropes challenges plus zip lines.

There are nine different courses for all abilities: two for beginners, five for intermediate, and two for advanced. It’s pretty kid-friendly, with seven courses available for children under six or those under 49” tall.

In total, there are 39 ziplines throughout the courses – up to 300 feet in length. If you want to prioritize ziplining, go for the Lakeview course, which has almost 1,000 feet of ziplines.

Best of all, you’ll get beautiful lake views of Tahoe as you climb and fly through the forest.

Tahoe Treetop Adventure Parks has another location in Tahoe, at Olympic Park. This location has six ziplines, and features mountain views rather than views of the lake.

Ziplines at Pacific Crest: Southern California’s Premier Zipline Tour

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Ziplines at Pacific Crest . All opinions are 100% mine.

When you think of ziplining over the trees, you often think of tropical locations and not Southern California; however, only 70 miles east of Los Angeles, in the town of Wrightwood, Ziplines at Pacific Crest is changing that. Part zipline tour, part adventure course, Ziplines at Pacific Crest is an excellent escape from the city with two different tours that are sure to get your blood pumping. We set out the Canopy Tour and had a blast flying through the trees on the nine zips, two rappels and a few sky bridges. Here is all the information if you want to check it out yourself.

Getting There

From Los Angeles, you will head out like you are going to Las Vegas, connecting with the 15 Freeway up through the Cajon Pass. Instead of continuing to the high desert though, you will get off on Highway 138 and make your way to Highway 2. From here you can head into the town of Wrightwood and over to the office for Ziplines at Pacific Crest.

Here is a video I made about the adventure.

We got there 20 minutes before our 9 AM tour, got checked in, signed the waivers, used the restroom (you can’t use the bathroom once the tour starts), and got into our gear.

Our guides walked us through the gear and all of the safety precautions before getting into the van for the 15-minute ride to the start of the trail. It was a bumpy ride, and it was a fun way to start our adventure.

The tour begins with training school, which was three zips and a short rappel. This area is designed to get you situated with what the course will require of you, including braking, since you do that yourself (it is straightforward though).

After the three short intro zips, you will rappel from the last platform down to the ground below you. I found this to be a little nerve racking but ended up enjoying it as soon as I started rappelling down.

This rappel is the end of the training area and a natural place to leave the tour if you find it to be too stressful (push on if you can though as it is a blast).

From there we got to take a sky bridge up to the next platform which was a fun adventure, made more fun by our excellent guides (Timber and Emily) who took photos of us, made jokes and told us all about the area during any downtime. They were both fantastic, so if you get on a tour with them, you will have a great time.

The zips were much more fun in the middle of the course as they start getting longer and you start going faster as well. It is crazy to be so high up soaring above the trees at heights over 300 feet, and it is a total rush.

We then had another rappel (90 feet from one platform to the next) and a few sky bridges (which were scary for a couple of group members, but which I enjoyed) before we got to the most fun zipline on the course.

This second to last zipline is over 1500 feet long, and you reach speeds of up to 55 mph while doing it. I can’t exaggerate how awesome it is to be going that fast and to have the time to look around and see the area. Just this zip alone made the course worth it.

To top it all off though, on the last zip of the day you get a chance to race your friend. This was a blast, and it was a great way to finish the course as you didn’t have to break on this zipline and could go as fast as you wanted.

After it was all over, we got shuttled back down to the office and ended our zipline tour. All four of us had a total blast and couldn’t stop talking about it on the way home. If you are looking for a fun ziplining adventure in Southern California, check it out.
