Why see The Black Keys?

International players tour.

The Black Keys are officially back! 2024 sees them return to the road on a new North American tour titled 'International Players,' in support of their twelfth album Ohio Players'! Ohio natives Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney first formed The Black Keys back in 2001 and amassed a dedicated fan base as they made their way through the indie underground, playing clubs all over the world and self-releasing albums.

2010 saw them hop over to the mainstream with their fifth record, Brothers, and its lead single 'Tighten Up' crashing onto the airwaves. The heavy blues sound with '60s style production carried over to the follow up 'El Camino', cementing them as one of the best alternative bands of the decade. Don't miss your chance to catch them live this fall!

The Black Keys are an American blues rock band formed in Ohio in 2001. Band members, and childhood friends, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney self-produced their tracks until making the big time in 2010.

The Black Keys have released eight studio albums since 2002 with each album doing better than the last on the US Billboard charts. The band’s most recent album, “Turn Blue” reached the number one spot in the US and was a top five album in almost every other country.

The band’s musical prowess has been recognised and celebrated with a staggering seven Grammy Awards, four of which were won in 2013 for the album “El Camino”. The Black Keys claim that legendary bands such as The Beatles, T. Rex and The Clash influenced the album.

Extensively touring and promoting their own work in small venues throughout the US and Europe in the early years, it wasn’t until 2011 that The Black Keys were given the chance to complete an arena tour to support “El Camino”. While old hands at the touring lifestyle, the band was forced to pull out of many Australian, New Zealand and European dates for their “El Camino” tour due to exhaustion and their overwhelming schedule.

Despite the cancellation of these gigs, the band did not rest on their laurels and instead set about getting to work on their next album, ”Turn Blue”. The Black Keys have stated that they prefer to be working on and releasing new music and albums rather than constantly pushing their older material.

The band’s most popular single to date is “Lonely Boy” which went platinum in the US, Canada and Australia. Other hits have included the singles “Tighten Up” and “Gold on the Ceiling”. No strangers to hard work, it goes without saying that The Black Keys will have many more hit singles in their future and will continue to cultivate and expand upon the loyal fan base they already have.

Live reviews

The Black Keys are my favorite band and I am always excited to see Dan and Patrick rock out the entire house. I've seen them in intimate settings like a little bar up to large sold-out arenas, and every time they have put on an amazing and electric show.

They are not known for huge set pieces, typically it's just Dan out with his guitars and Patrick behind his drum set, but lately they've added a keyboardist, bassist, and backing vocals for some of the newer songs, but they only add to the show. The band has been around for quite a few years, but it seems like only recently they have blown up and everyone wants to see them. I like seeing them live because they seem to extend every song a little bit and Dan has a different touch on each guitar solo that just gets everyone into a nice groove.

They have a good mix of slower songs and faster rocking songs from all of their albums at every show, so any fan of the band who has followed from the beginning, to someone who had just heard their songs on commercials, will be able to appreciate and expand their taste for the Black Keys. My favorite songs to see are "Thickfreakness" because it rocks harder than most other songs these days, and is very impressive because it is just two instruments.

Another song that will leave lasting memories is "Everlasting Light". The performance makes it seem like Dan and Pat are just two normal guys who like to rock out, and that's exactly what you get!

Fantastic Concert. The Black Keys have spent over a decade touring America and Europe waiting to make it big and during that time they perfected a real performance. They once said back in 2008 that they didn't have a lot of gimmicks in their shows knowing that is what some people wanted. They didn't have the popularity. Now that they do, they certainly aren't throwing away what made them a great performing band. The first leg of the tour had a set list that contained nothing from before Brothers . . . They changed that on the second leg. Playing all the way back to a Taj Mahal cover on their first record to a few from Turn Blue and even a cover after that, they put together a great show that doesn't distract from the music. Many artists have resorted to relying on LED panels to do that show for them. The Black Keys have many lights but the brightest shine on them. With soulful instrumentals between songs and different takes on some classics, it's a show that keeps you engaged the whole way through. Some people may not like Turn Blue, personally I know it is their worst record, but that doesn't make it bad or even them washed up or sold out. They are the same blues rock band that wanted to do something different in the studio. On stage the guitar solos and powerful verses remain in everything they do. Plus I got a drumstick from Pat and a pick from Dan!

I love to finally have been able to see them!

There were a few things that would've made this experience better for me:

* too much time between songs and not with chit chat with the audience, just silence;

* yeah, more chit chat and engagement with the audience;

* the voice was drowned by the music too many times;

* which was even worse when they decided to slow sing some of their not so slow songs - we cannot hear you sing and now we do not have the hard drums in the background;

* the venue is just not a good venue for concerts (which is the case with big venues like that, makes you feel restricted) so advice for the band is to not perform in such venues, which I know is difficult because there are so many of us wanting to see them, so where else to play?! Music festivals!!!

This was my very first concert I've ever been to, and it far surpassed my expectations. I showed up prepared to sit and listen to some great music by the Black Keys for about an hour. What I got, however, was two straight hours of pure magic. Their performance was absolutely amazing, from their music to the awesome light show they put on. The most memorable moment was after their last song. They had gone off stage and the fans are all screaming for an encore, and after a while of shouting and cheering with everybody holding up their phones with the flashlights on, they come back out and play a few more songs, finishing it off with Little Black Submarines (possibly their best song). All I can say is that this was one of the best nights of my life, thanks to the Black Keys.

Wow, what a show! Locate the Elepahnt started things off and did a great job. Very high energy. Then came the Keys. What a set up! The entire backdrop would change with every song. So cool. They played a bunch of their hits and a bunch of deep cuts. They played for a good chunk of time. Then after without the house lights coming up at all the entire place started to glow. Everyone had taken their cellphones out and turned on their flashlights while cheering T the top of their lungs. The band ended up coming back out for an encore with another surprise set change. In all they ended up playing for about an hour forty five, and it wasn't enough. They could have played their entire catalog and it wouldn't have been enough. I didn't want to leave. What a show!

I originally went to the concert looking forward to Cage the Elephant more than Black Keys, even though I'd say they're both my favorite bands. After I picked up the shards of my exploded brain I remembered why the Black Keys are the best band in rock right now. Auerbach rocked every single solo like it was the height of the concert. Carney kept every beat insanely tight and literally shook Barclays with his killer solos as well. They played through a huge amount of songs, mainly focusing on Turn Blue and El Camino but they threw in bumpers from their older catalogue as well. Overall my mind was utterly blown, Best rock show I've seen since Springsteen.

I've been a Black Keys fan since they released Magic Potion in 2007. They've consistently been my favorite band and I am proud to still be their biggest fan. This was the 4th time I've seen them live and by far the most impressive performance. Even though we were far back, the entire section rocked out like we were front row. They played all their greatest hits including some off their old albums like Oceans & Streams, Thickfreakness, and Magic Potion. The new music rocks out so I am so pleased with this experience I now call, the best concert of my life. I will travel to Boston on October 11th to see them live for my 25th birthday - LET'S ROCK!

Black Keys upped the setlist from 2 years ago - while not a lot of older material there was still not as much brand new. This is a good thing; i could feel the sexiness coming off the blues of Leavin' Trunk, and the cover of Girl Like You (Edwyn Collins) was a tremendous surprise. The opener Cage the Elephant blew the crowd away and kept it nice and warm for the Black Keys to come right in and keep the energy going.

DirtyFrank82’s profile image

The Black Keys did a great job. The music sounded amazing live and the set transitions were really neat and different.

The guys put on quite a show and I'm glad I got to experience it from the pit- even if it meant getting picked up by a random person and set on their shoulder. Security hated me for a hot minute, but I had the best view for a song or two.

The experience with Song kick was horrible... I bought tickets off of their website and then when I went to pick them up, they informed me at Willcall that I have been scammed... as there were no tickets waiting for me. Dont buy with this app... I lost 150 bucks. Its shit.

Thanks for fucking me guys!
