Being in control of your finances gives you more freedom to do more of the things you want to do it your life. that's why i have created a bunch of free resources to help you to get in control and live a life on your terms , grab the freebies, about olivia, 7 essential kmart items you need on every holiday (each less than $10), september 17, 2019, packing cubes.

These have honestly been life-changing. I started using packing cubes around 2 years ago on our New Zealand Trip.

Because I usually use one extra-large suitcase for myself and the girls, it’s much easier to keep everything sorted and separate with cubes,

I searched around a lot, including eBay and more exxy travel luggage places but in a pinch I ended up with the Kmart ones, always intending to get better ones down the track.

Well, two years on and they’re still going strong. They seem flimsy AF and I never expected them to last. But they did!

There are a few different options but I have the three sized rectangles, only $7.50 a pack. They also come in a few colours – find them here .

kmart australia travel accessories

Kids Over-Ear Headphones

If you have little ones, these are the best headphones. We have used ours for over 3 years now and they’re so handy, especially on the plane!

They have stood the test of time on many flights, being thrown around and shoved in bags.

Just be careful if plugging into a phone as you may need an adapter for newer iPhones and Android.

Find them here for $10.

kmart australia travel accessories

Personal First Aid Kit

I don’t think there has been a trip where this has not come in handy. Be it a bandaid for a blister or even just a safety pin for a broken zip.

I just use the same kit and have replenished the items I needed to when I got home.

There are actually a few sizes available at Kmart but I have the 62 pieces, only $10!

kmart australia travel accessories

Neck Pillow

I actually find these things so annoying and a pain to store. But once you are on a plane, especially with kids, they come in super handy!

Especially on a long haul flight, they can be the difference between swearing off flying ever again and only mildly hating the flight – lol.

I like these ones from Kmart because they have a hook AND clip together, so they can easily be clipped onto bags and handles quickly.

I always just bring it as a ‘just in case; because buying them at the airport always costs a bomb.

You can find different colours here , only $7.50.

kmart australia travel accessories

Clear Travel Toiletries Bag

I got this one on my most recent trip to the USA as now you must have your carry on liquids in a clear bag for customs.

It also really does make it a lot easier because you can see everything and it’s not lost at the bottom of your bag!

These cute bags are only $8 for the set of three from Kmart .

kmart australia travel accessories

Stackable Travel Jars

Another lesson I learnt on my USA trip. Put your creams and liquids that are over 100m in small containers so you don’t get it confiscated. It also means it takes up WAY less room in your toiletries bag.

These ones are the bomb. Find them here for $3 .

kmart australia travel accessories

Travel Hairdryer

You won’t be creating any epic blow waves with it, but it’s super handy when you find yourself in the accommodation without a hairdryer.

Not to mention some handy mum hacks.

I’ve used it to dry clothes, get creases out of crinkled clothes squashed in my bag and dry wet shoes from a day in the rain.

This one has a foldable handle and is only $10 from Kmart .

15 travel accessories that will you need when travelling

Michela Gear Travel Accessories 4

Right now, I’m preparing for my upcoming trip to Australia and making a list of all travel accessories to take with me. By taking a closer look at it, I have realised that my accessories makeover 1/3 of my packing list .

While it’s easy to narrow down the list of travel clothes and personal items, it’s almost impossible for me to leave behind travel gear like my MacBook Pro and my camera. I couldn’t think of travelling without them, as they allow me to be self-sufficient and keep working on the road. They are my travel companions.

The list of essential travel accessories that I have prepared includes all the things you will need for travelling in Australia. This list may not suit everyone, though, but it gives you the framed picture on which you can build your list. It covers travel gear basics and meets my priority no. 1, which is to travel as lightweight as possible while not sacrificing functionality and comfort.

An important thing to bear in mind when preparing the list of accessories is that electronic gear and any electronic spare parts are expensive in Australia, so it’s advisable to pack all you need and not buy electronics in Australia.

Here is my list of the best travel gear I pack for my travels in Australia.

Travel Accessories for electronics

Camera tripod – joby gorillapod.

The Joby Tripod is the last entry on my travel accessories bag. This mini camera tripod is very light, stable and easy to use. You can wrap it around anything indoor and outdoor. The ball head makes it super fast and allows to find the perfect orientation quickly. I’m using my camera with the mounting plate attached, so it is pretty quick to use. It only takes 2 seconds to slide in the camera and start shooting.

I can highly recommend it if you want to take great photos. Check out the Joby Gorillapod .

Camera Canon Eos 100d

I travel with two cameras while I learn to take better photos . after evaluating a Sony A7 mirrorless and a Canon DSLR, I picked the Canon EOS 100d with the 18-55mm lens. What made me choose this compact DSLR camera is the lightweight, the technology, and the money’s excellent value. It’s very light and one of the smallest DSRL cameras around, but nearly as powerful as the EOS 700d and at a reasonable price.

Camera Compact Canon Ixus

While I mostly use my Canon DSLR now, I always take my C anon IXUS 210. This is a super handy camera that I have been using for six years. It’s easy and fast to use, takes great shots, is just the perfect on-the-go camera when I don’t want to carry too much stuff with me. It fits everywhere, in my pocket, in my Pacsafe hip pack .

I never travel without. You can view the newest version of this camera, which is the Canon Powershot Ixus 350

Canon Battery Pack

It’s essential to have spare batteries for all your devices. In Australia, you may be on the road for a long time to rely only on a battery charger or a portable charger. I always have one spare canon battery pack for each camera as well as the individual battery charger.

Travel Accessories – Personal Computer or iPad

I have been travelling for five years with my Mac Book Pro . I love my Mac, but it is not ideal as lightweight is concerned; it uses up half of the hand luggage weight allowance (typically 7-8 kg). If I had to purchase my Mac Book today, I would probably go for a Mac Air, which is much lighter and easier to carry around.

AviiQ MacBook stand

If you like me, use your Mac Book a lot, and in different environments, you may end up using a MacBook stand. I have been looking for a long time but couldn’t find anything super light and slim.

I recently bumped into this new gear: The AviiQ Mac Book Stand that comes in two versions: the on-the-go and the pop-up version. Although it’s quite pricey, the on-the-go version is probably the best investment.

Portable External Hard Drive

If you carry a computer in your travels, you also need a portable external hard drive to back up your data. I use a WD 500GB , which is the smaller version of the WD 1TD External Hard Drive, and this is essential to secure your data on an external device. After my computer crashed four years ago, I learnt a lesson, and now I never travelled without a portable external hard drive .

Portable Chargers

Another essential travel gear is a portable charger that sooner or later you will end up buying. In the past, I only used a portable charger for my Samsung phone. The mini Anker portable charger is very popular, but you can choose many versions and sizes from the market. If you travel to remote areas of Australia, it will be hard to go without. Here you can check out prices and all portable charges .

Camera Memory Cards

Make sure to take with you a good stock of memory cards for your camera when you travel to Australia. I once nearly paid 37 Australian dollars for a small memory card. The Sandisk 8-16-32-64GB memory cards are my favourite. Check them out here .

USB Flash Drives

I use them and always pack 2-3 USB drives to store all my docs and photos. They are convenient. This little device helps you reduce the print-outs, and in case you need a physical copy of your bookings, the itinerary, you can easily access them from any computer and in shops. My favourite ones are those from Lexar, but any will do the job. You can see all USB flash drive here .

Travel Accessories for iPhone

I have been using a Samsung Galaxy for over three years but was not happy with it. I made a mistake to purchase the 16GB memory, which is easy to use up. So I decided to add an iPhone 6plus 64 GB to my travel accessories bag. I think like a Mac user, it’s wise to have an iPhone; you can connect it to your Mac and sync all your photos, upload and download files with no issue. I like it because it allows me to work from my iPhone without carrying around my Mac.

It was not easy to choose the right phone type, but I finally decided to go with the iPhone 6 plus 64 GB . I have been using it for a year by now and love the multi-faceted iPhone 6 plus. It saves lots of space and weight, the iPhone 6 plus is a sort of mini-iPad, so it’s worth the investment.

iPhone 6 plus protection case

A critical issue with the iPhone is to buy a good iPhone case for maximum protection. Maybe a waterproof case to protect your iPhone from water damages is a savvy decision if you are using it a lot outdoor and for water sports activities.

For my iPhone 6 plus, I am using the Evo Tactical  XT case . You can read my iPhone Waterproof review here.

International Travel Adapter

A one-piece that I never forgot to pack is the international travel adapter. I use a Sansa one with multiple plugs to charge my computer and my phone simultaneously. Here you can view the page with all the best international travel adapters .

4GB Wifi Dongle

You can check out these offers on the Telstra.com.au page and or in any Telstra shop in Australia. In the past, I purchased the 30 dollars/month but found the 50 dollars plan the most cost-effective. With this plan, you don’t have to recharge every month. For all prepaid plans, once a year is sufficient to keep this prepaid-sim-card alive.

Travel Organizer for electronics

So, where do you pack all your electronic gear? I use two smaller travel organisers and my Pacsafe Venturesafe 25l daypack for all my electronic devices, USB cables, battery charges, cards and adapters. There are many compact and lightweight ones to suit all needs. On this page, you can see all types of travel organisers for electronics .

Michaela, I agree that this is a good list of things to bring to Australia.

I definitely agree with the Telstra Wifi dongle – after many frustrating attempts to use Australian hotel wifi I have also bought one of these and now use it regularly – the great thing is that you can purchase the pre-paid credit relatively cheaply and at least you do not have to work out how to log in each time…

rockytravel March 30, 2016 @ 1:47 pm

Hi Anne, yes most of times free wifi is difficult to access and the Telstra Wifi Dongle is very useful in remote areas. I always use it when I am on the road and no reliable wifi resources are available.

I fully agree with these travel accessories. I need to add these 4GB WiFi dongle or iPhone Waterproof Case to my bag so that i can access internet without any problems. Thanks for sharing this.

‘Game-changing’ $10 Kmart travel item

A $10 Kmart item is all the rage on social media with travellers boasting about how it will “change your life” when it comes to packing for a trip.

There’s nothing more annoying than having to rearrange your suitcase or leave clothes behind, because it simply won’t fit.

Kmart shoppers have discovered the Aussie chain’s travel compression storage bag and they’re obsessed.

$10 Kmart item gives ‘30 per cent’ more baggage space

One TikToker claimed the bags freed up to 30 per cent more luggage space, allowing her to pack even more items.

“This $10 Kmart product will change your life, especially if you’re an overpacker like me,” lifestyle and travel blogger Jess Ricci said in a clip.

TikToker Jess Ricci described this Kmart travel item as a ‘game changer’. Picture TikTok/jess.ricci

“These are the compression storage bags – they come in a set of six (four small and two large).”

Jess, who has accumulated more than one million likes on her TikToks, said she really loves to pack her suitcase to the brim and fears her bag will one day “break”.

“These are pretty much the old school vacuum storage bags that are made manual,” she said about her new-found obsession.

“You pack them up and then compress them down. I personally like the rolling technique.”

Just said it helps remove the air and flattens the garments down in a way that “packing cubes could never”.

Jess said she really likes to ‘stuff her suitcase full’ and is fearful it will one day break. Picture TikTok/jess.ricci

“You see the difference,” she said. “I estimated I got about 30 per cent more space with the bags which of course I then filled up with more stuff.”

Other customers have taken to Kmart’s site to give the item a 4.3-star rating out of 23 reviews.

It doesn’t need a vacuum, instead you can just roll the bag to get all the air out. Picture TikTok/jess.ricci

“Takes a bit of practice but once you get the hang of rolling them they work really well,” one traveller wrote.

“I was able to fit two weeks worth of clothing plus shopping in half a suitcase. Also protects your clothes from any spills or leaks. Will definitely use these for any trips in the future.”

Another traveller said she took to the $10 bags to Japan and was able to squeeze more in her suitcase “as I knew I’d be buying up a storm”.

One woman said she was able to “significantly reduce bulky winter clothing” that she had put into storage.

More Coverage

“Good size for full length puffer jackets and jersey’s, hoodies, etc.” she added.

However, others warned it can be difficult to “get the air out” when rolling the bags, while some argued they couldn’t get the bags to stay compressed.

“Resorted to using our larger size sandwich bags which worked better than this compression item,” one woman wrote in her review.

A couple has taken the ultimate plunge, amid rising house costs and everyday living, for a new way of life that has cost less than a deposit.

Going on a trip to Europe? It’s not so easy anymore, with new travel rules coming in for all Aussies. Here’s what you need to know.

Aussies are convinced they are treated better when locals find out an important thing about them when travelling in Europe.

Kmart shoppers go wild over $18 product that will change the way you travel long-haul flights.

Cindy Tran

Must-have travel product sending shoppers wild

Travellers are obsessing over an $18 product from Kmart that takes long-haul flights to the next level.

Shoppers believe they have found the perfect travel pillow for getting much-needed sleep on those often-difficult journeys.

The retailer’s inflatable front pillow may look “awkward” - but many customers raved they were able to sleep “comfortably” in their seats by leaning forward.

The pillow features a unique design with air vents to travellers to “naturally” lean forward, offering better support to the head and neck.

One shopper gave the pillow a five-star rating - but jokingly noted: “I am prepared to be laughed at”.

“Yes it is awkward looking but actually it’s really comfortable and perfect for long plane rides. Blows up very easy and also easy to deflate. A little tough to get back into the carry bag is my only complaint,” she said.

Travellers are obsessing over an $18 product from Kmart that takes long-haul flights to the next level.

Another said she found the pillow “very comfy”.

“While I did still get minimal sleep, I think that was more me rather than the pillow. So many different ways to sleep on it which I loved and only takes a couple of breaths to inflate. Packs down probably smaller or similar to a basic travel pillow with the nice little bag. Can’t complain, it did a very good job,” she said.

While one shared: “Purchased for a long flight. Very easy to inflate and deflate. Lightweight, folds flat. Used for part of the flight and was able to sleep.”

Jess Ricci, from Melbourne, recently shared rave reviews about a $10 ‘wrap around’ neck pillow from Kmart.

The product comes just weeks after Jess Ricci , a digital creator from Melbourne , shared rave reviews about a “wrap around” neck pillow.

“If you’re planning on catching a long haul flight, this $10 Kmart find is a MUST,” she captioned the post.

“This $10 Kmart travel product will change your life. No, it’s not a weird neck brace - it’s the wrap-around neck pillow.

“There’s a structured centre to support your neck upright and then a scarf-like wrap that you whip around and secure in place.

“It’s not the cutest but believe me when I say it’ll give you the best in-flight sleep you have ever had.”

Ricci believed the budget accessory is a dupe of the $80 Trtl travel neck pillow.

“I LOVE my Trtl, but the Kmart one is a much more affordable option,” she said.
