"I took three grandsons, ages 9-11, on a four hour trip. We had lots of fun. The Captain went to 3 different locations to look for good fishing. We caught baby sharks, which the kids found very thrilling. The staff on board were very helpful, and were able to remove each fish from the hook. I plan to go again."

boat on shore

"Great time had by all. I’ve fished on their trips in the past and never disappointed! This was my youngest son’s first deep sea trip, although he got motion sickness, the crew was helpful to him and he ended up enjoying himself! Always make the boat limits each time out. Deck hands were great and on top of everything! Will be again time permitting!"

man and fish

"We try to go Deep Sea Fishing at least once a year. We were going to a competitor but thought we should try Williams Party Boats last year. This was our 2nd time coming now and the experience has been great. The crew is polite and helpful and the captain always finds a way to get us on the fish. I can't say enough good things about the experience and the memories made."

mountains

"The service is great. The things that most people need to look at that took me time to realize that this is fishing not catching. I have been out with this company many times. The staff is great and fishing is fishing."

Testimonials.

Capt. Travis and Travis were some stand up guys. They made it an experience and it was obvious they were the superiors around here. They were down to earth and made it feel like they were on vacation with us. Made it like we were fishing with friends. We reached limit on two different fish, caught fish all day long, and they were above average size fish. Capt. Greg gave us incredible prices on the last day of snapper season. We will never step on another charter and plan on making this a family tradition. Don't sell yourself short by going with others, wave dancers is exactly what you're looking for.

Captain Taylor now that I am back home all I can think about is the time I spent with you and Gunnar and my Family last week . I am forever Greatful to have had the pleasure of meeting both of you men your knowledge of the sea the kindness you showed us made our charter absolutely the best time spent out on the ocean I can not imagine doing another charter out of Galveston with out you guys good luck and until next time God Bless!

We had the best time with Capt Travis and his deck hand Travis! They were so much fun and we had a blast!!! We caught a lot of fish! We will def be back for more fishing fun! A class act fishing boat. You won't be disappointed! Already planning another trip for my birthday!!!

Captain Taylor and his deck hand treated us like family. I have three children and they made it an awesome experience for them. Taylor and his deck mate are so respectful and hard working. I highly recommend this charter service. Thanks guys.

Wave Dancer Charters In The News! Today we’d like to introduce you to Capt. Greg Ball.

Click Here to read the full article.

Capt. Greg, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.

How did you start wave dancer galveston fishing charters.

I started fishing the Gulf of Mexico at a very young age at about 4 years old with my father Don Ball. He would take me on offshore fishing trips with him all the time. I loved fishing so much and growing up on the Gulf coast, at a young age I wanted my own boat. My dad told me when I was 12 years old that If I could make the money to buy my own boat that I could have one. So I started working for the newspaper as a paper boy and mowed grass and anything else I could do to make a little money and within a year at age 13 I had my own boat. Me and my buddies would fish lots of afternoons after school and weekends and I still fished at least once or twice a week with my dad all though high school. I graduated high school and worked selling cars for my dad at his new car dealership, then opened a used car lot myself and a new boat dealership. I had also been buying rental property all along and in 1995 I got out of sales and went into nothing but buying, remodeling and renting real estate and flipping houses. That was a great job until hurricane’s Rita in 2005 and Ike in 2008 came along and wiped out almost everything I had. I prayed about what to do and was led to sell everything I had and buy a big Hatteras sports fishing yacht and start fishing. One thing led to another and my Stepson Taylor Borel and I were talking one day and decided that we should go to captain’s school and get our license and start doing offshore fishing charters for a living and that would give us extra money to go fishing for ourselves too. He was 19 or 20 at the time and had gone fishing with me since he was a small child and we had plenty of sea time to get our 100 ton Master Captains License, so we did just that. We started our company in 2011 with that one boat and now we have 3 in our fleet and two are federally permitted to run up to 80 or so miles offshore with up to 6 fisherman on board. I have always been told that you will never work a day in your life if you love what you do. This is that kind of job, we work 7 long days a week 365 days a year (well we do take off for Christmas and Easter) but it is the most awesome job in the world, watching people fight and land lots of huge fish and see how happy they become and proud of themselves. We help people make their dreams come true and check fish caught off their bucket list. We get to do lots of charity events for the less fortunate, handicapped, disabled children and adults, and we get to meet the best people in the world while fishing.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

It’s been fairly smooth with a few bumps along the way with expense of maintenance and upkeep on the boats. Because we run almost every day of the year and almost 500 charters a year on 3 boats you can imagine that we have lots of upkeep. In 2015 we bought all new motors for our boats and it’s been a lot easier and less expensive ever since we did that. The other problem is with anything you do, there are laws, state and federal and the same goes with Charter for Hire fishing. We have been battling the state and the federal government for years on fish stocks and leaving our seasons open longer or giving us some more days and let us fish them when the weather is good. It’s been a hard battle but we are starting to win and things are getting lots better. We joined the Charter Fisherman Association and they are on the right track to getting everything worked out for us to have more fishing days. The only other real struggle that we have is Mother Nature. We get trips booked and then can’t run them for bad weather and then we lose a day of work because of it. Other than those few things it’s smooth sailing most of the time.

Please tell us about Wave Dancer Charters.

Our business in fishing and fishing is good!! We specialize in taking people out to have a lifelong and memorable experience on the water by catching lots of fish and/or big fish. We take families with kids, Men and Woman, experienced and novice fisherman, we teach while we catch fish if they have never fished before. We also do multi boat trips for large groups, bachelor parties and cooperate events. We do near shore/close offshore charters for a half day or full day year round and we do Shark fishing trips and then we specialize in Deep Sea and Blue Water trips for lots of species of big fish. We were the top 2 boats out of 3 places on the whole Texas coast for Red Snapper landings last year. Our 2 federally permitted boats landed more Red Snapper than any boats on the whole Texas coast. We have been voted best of Galveston 2013, 2014, and 2015 and Capt. Taylor Borel and myself Capt. Greg Ball have been voted best Capt. almost every year since we started this company. We are set apart from others because this is a full-time job for us, we live it every day, even when we don’t have customers on the boat we are fishing and finding or making new spots to fish. We have the best kept boats in the Galveston fleet with all new and updated equipment, new engines, life rafts, satellite phones on all boats, satellite tracking device with email and text from anywhere in the gulf and all new fishing tackle every year. We also have the most knowledgeable deckhands on our boats to help our customers on every trip as well so that they will have the most enjoyable experience ever while aboard our boats.

Experience nearshore adrenaline infused shark fishing in galveston.

One of the specialties of Galveston Fishing Charters is shark fishing. During the summer months, sharks such as Blacktip, Bull Shark, and Spinner, can be found nearshore of Galveston Bay. Galveston Fishing Charter provides larger reels and rods to hook the sharks, which can be heavy, ranging from 50 to 500 pounds. While shark fishing may seem like a hobby for the experienced angler, it is also entertainment for the family. One of the most exciting sharks, the Spinner, jumps and spins in the air when hooked, which impresses anglers of all ages. Kids enjoy the challenge of catching a shark, seeing a shark up close, and feeling safe while experiencing something exciting. After catching the sharks, the family of anglers can be stewards of the sea by releasing the sharks into the ocean in order to maintain the shark population, which has been overfished by commercial fishermen. Rather than visiting an aquarium and seeing a shark through glass, families can search for sharks on the open ocean, hold the shark and feel its strength, and value the shark’s natural beauty and habitat– a more intimate experience with Galveston wildlife.

Don’t let another week get by you. Book your fishing trip today!

If you are a veteran angler, we will expand on your fishing skills and knowledge while exposing you to the niches of Galveston Bay fishing to enhance your time on the ocean. Types of Fish We Catch in Galveston, TX

When it comes to saltwater fish, Galveston, Texas stands out as one of the hottest hot spots in the world. It’s convenient location near the Gulf of Mexico gives it an added advantage as being one of the best places with a wide variety of fish species. Check out our charter ratings on TripAdvisor!

In-shore Fish Species

The two types of flounder species are summer flounder and southern flounder. Both these species require a lot of patience when fishing. They love slightly warm temperatures. When it is too cold or too hot, the flounders hide. They feed on the shallow waters at night and hide into the deep waters when the sun comes up. The summer flounder is very aggressive as compared to the southern flounder and fishing it needs more patience.

The speckled trout is one of the best fish species in the world. It is not only a favorite delicacy fish for many but also a great trophy fish especially for fish anglers. It is dark gray with some few blue reflections and spots scattered on the back and sides. On its upper jaw, it has two canine teeth and other small teeth in its mouth. The dorsal fins are different with the larger ones having around ten spines and the smaller ones with one spine.

Redfish fishing is one of the most common fishing activities by anglers in the United States. The large variety of redfish schools give anglers greater chances of finding the bulls they want. The large red bulls are a challenge to catch to the anglers. They are a unique species and like almost all redfish species, they have different defensive weapons to free themselves once they caught. The red fish is a delicacy in almost everywhere all around the globe and is one of the best sport fish in Texas .

Recent Review

My family had a blast on our jetty fishing trip! Captain Jerry has a great heart and quick wit and was a pleasure spending a few hours with on the boat. We caught plenty of fish in all the species we were hoping for. The Captain’s expertise and friendly connections made sure we found the ‘hot spots’ to keep on catching! The highlight of our trip was hooking into a large Jack Crevalle and orchestrating a team effort to land it after a good fight. We also enjoyed catching plenty of speckled trout, sheepshead, redfish, and catfish. As catch and release fishermen, we appreciated the extra care spent in making sure all our catches were handled correctly and released quickly in order to not disrupt their health. A unique part of this charter was the included “first mate”, who was fantastic at helping us keep our lines in the water with fresh live bait, and netting our catches. The boat itself is very comfortable and large, with shade to retreat to if needed and a proper toilet, which was a huge selling point for my mother. Our experience with this charter was amazing, and we would absolutely book them time and time again if we find ourselves back on the island. Thanks y’all for the memories! Erin McG (Photos below)

Galveston Deep Sea Fishing

  • Up To 6 Passengers
  • Half or Full Day Trips

Galveston Fishing Charters » Deep Sea Fishing

About Galveston Deep Sea Fishing Trips

We offer morning and afternoon half-day Galveston deep sea fishing for up to 6 people per boat, and often have great catches from both trips as well. So don’t worry if the morning isn’t available for the date you had in mind. This also allows you to sleep in and relax for the morning or enjoy a great afternoon on the beach in Galveston after your fishing trip too. Our online bookings have availability for trips in real-time as well, we recommend booking ahead to ensure your preferred date.

If this is your first deep sea fishing experience; don’t worry, free fishing lessons are included!!!

We also provide all of the rods and reels, fishing tackle and bait for the trip, there’s no fuel surcharge, and we include fish cleaning! All you’ll need are snacks, drinks (no glass), and a fishing license. We have a cooler on board to put drinks and snacks in, but feel free to bring your cooler as well. Remember that your captain and crew work hard to ensure that you have a great experience on your deep sea fishing experience, you can show them your appreciation with a 15-20% tip and a 5-star review online. Both are greatly appreciated.

Group of angkers with Cobia fish caught on a Galveston fishing charter

During your Galveston deep sea fishing trip, we typically try to do a combination of bottom fishing, trolling, drift fishing, and jigging. This gives us the opportunity to encounter a wider variety of fish species during your trip. Depending on the weather and conditions of the day, we may be limited to trolling and bottom fishing– which are typically most productive anyways.

The most popular deep sea fishing trip is our half day 6 hour trip, we are usually fishing within 40 miles of Galveston on a variety of different types of structures. We do not always fish oil and gas platforms, but also fish on sunken wrecks, natural bottom, scattered rocks, and other features too. Common species can include red snapper , king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, sharks, red drum, sheepshead, Cobia, Mahi Mahi, ripletail, and others. The length of the trip is measured from dock to dock and starts at the scheduled time for the trip. We try our best to stay on time, as there are often multiple groups scheduled during the day to go fishing.

For the ultimate Galveston deep sea fishing experience, you’ll want to  book a full-day 12 hour trip . This gives us more fishing time, goes farther offshore, and has more opportunity for a variety of different species too. A full day of deep sea fishing may not be for everyone, but it is the best opportunity to bring the most fish home for sure.

FAQs About Galveston Deep Sea Fishing

Deep Sea Fishing in Galveston is best from around mid April to mid October, weather permitting of course. The fishing is good all through the Spring , Summer, and Fall but for certain species some months may be better than others.

10 – 40 miles offshore on half day trips and 40 – 100 miles on full day trips.

Yes, anyone over the age of 17 is required by law to have a valid Texas saltwater fishing license. There are a number of options for licenses available, but we recommend a one-day license for most cases. You can purchase the licenses online or in person at Academy, Wal-Mart, or most any sporting goods store. Make sure when you purchase the license, it does include the oversized red drum tag on the license for any inshore or nearshore trip if you would like to keep a big Redfish on the trip.

We provide all the rods and reels, tackle and bait for the trip. Fuel is also included in the price of the trip. We are happy to provide fish cleaning services as well, especially with a generous gratuity of 15-25% for your trip.

Fishing in Galveston

Welcome to Galveston Bay, one of the most popular fishing destinations in Texas! This is where the Gulf of Mexico meets the bays and estuaries that are home to some of the best game fish in the region. Galveston Bay is known for its incredible flounder, redfish, and speckled trout fishing, and one of the best ways to experience it is by wade fishing. Wade fishing is a unique and exciting way to catch fish, and it's especially popular in Galveston Bay. This type of fishing involves standing in the shallow water and casting your line, using a lure or bait to entice the fish to bite. The thrill of feeling the tug on your line and the satisfaction of reeling in a big catch is hard to beat! The best time to go wade fishing in Galveston Bay is during the fall and winter months, when the water is cooler and the fish are more active. Flounder, redfish, and speckled trout are all plentiful during this time of year, and you're sure to have an amazing time. Flounder are a popular catch in Galveston Bay, and they're known for their delicious, delicate meat. These flatfish are often found hiding in the sandy bottoms of the bay, and you can use a variety of lures and baits to entice them to bite. As you cast your line and wait for a bite, keep an eye out for any movement or ripples in the water. When a flounder bites, you'll feel a distinct tug on your line, and you'll need to reel it in quickly to avoid losing it. Redfish, also known as red drum, are another popular game fish in Galveston Bay. These powerful fish can grow up to 50 pounds, and they put up a fierce fight when you hook them. You can use a variety of lures and baits to catch redfish, including live shrimp, mullet, and crab. As you reel in your line, you'll feel the redfish tugging and pulling, trying to get away. But with some skill and patience, you'll be able to land a big one. Finally, there's speckled trout, which are perhaps the most sought-after game fish in Galveston Bay. These beautiful fish are known for their distinctive spots and their tasty, flaky meat. You can use a variety of lures and baits to catch speckled trout, including topwater lures, soft plastics, and live shrimp. As you cast your line, keep an eye out for any signs of trout activity, such as jumping or splashing in the water. Whether you're a seasoned angler or a beginner, a wade fishing trip in Galveston Bay is an experience you won't soon forget. With some patience, skill, and a bit of luck, you'll be able to catch some amazing flounder, redfish, and speckled trout, and enjoy some of the best fishing in Texas! Read More

What is blackfin tuna fishing in Galveston all about?

Blackfin tuna are highly prized among anglers in Galveston for their fast-paced fights and delicious taste. These sleek and powerful fish can be found in the Gulf waters off Galveston throughout the year, making them a popular target for both recreational and commercial fishermen. While blackfin tuna are not as large as some other tuna species, they more than make up for it with their impressive speed and agility, often putting up a spirited battle once hooked. Anglers in Galveston can typically find blackfin tuna feeding near oil rigs, weed lines, and other offshore structures, where they hunt for smaller fish and squid. The best time to target blackfin tuna in Galveston is typically during the warmer months, from late spring through early fall, when water temperatures are warmer and baitfish are abundant. During this time, blackfin tuna can be found in good numbers patrolling the deeper offshore waters of the Gulf, often in schools mixed with other tuna species such as yellowfin and skipjack. Anglers targeting blackfin tuna in Galveston often employ a variety of techniques, including trolling with artificial lures or live bait, chunking, and drifting with live baits or jigs. Successful anglers pay close attention to water temperature, current patterns, and baitfish activity to locate productive fishing grounds. In addition to their exciting fights and culinary value, blackfin tuna also offer anglers in Galveston the opportunity to test their skills and techniques against a challenging and rewarding quarry. Whether fishing from a private boat, charter vessel, or kayak, anglers can enjoy the thrill of hooking into these powerful fish while surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the Gulf waters off Galveston. With their abundance, accessibility, and sporting qualities, blackfin tuna are a prized target for anglers of all experience levels in Galveston's vibrant fishing community.

What are the most popular months to fish for blackfin tuna in Galveston?

In Galveston, the blackfin tuna season typically aligns with warmer months, spanning from late spring through early fall. During this period, the Gulf waters off Galveston experience rising temperatures, which trigger an increase in baitfish activity and attract predatory species like blackfin tuna. These months offer prime conditions for blackfin tuna fishing, as the warmer waters bring the tuna closer to the surface and make them more active feeders. The peak of the blackfin tuna season in Galveston often occurs in the summer months, from June to August, when water temperatures are at their highest and baitfish populations are most abundant. Anglers can expect to encounter larger schools of blackfin tuna during this time, particularly around offshore structures such as oil rigs, wrecks, and reefs. Additionally, favorable weather conditions and calmer seas in the summer months make it easier for anglers to access offshore fishing grounds and target blackfin tuna effectively. While blackfin tuna can be caught year-round in Galveston, the spring and fall months also offer opportunities for successful outings. During these transitional periods, blackfin tuna may be found in shallower waters closer to shore as they migrate along the Gulf Coast. Anglers can capitalize on these seasonal movements by adjusting their fishing techniques and targeting areas where blackfin tuna are known to congregate, such as along weed lines, current edges, and bait-rich waters offshore. Overall, the blackfin tuna season in Galveston provides anglers with ample opportunities to pursue these prized game fish and enjoy the thrill of offshore angling in the Gulf of Mexico.

What techniques are popular for catching blackfin tuna in Galveston?

When targeting blackfin tuna in Galveston, anglers often employ a variety of fishing techniques to increase their chances of success. One popular method is trolling, which involves pulling artificial lures or rigged baits behind a moving boat. Anglers typically use diving plugs, feather jigs, or skirted lures designed to mimic the baitfish that blackfin tuna prey upon. Trolling allows anglers to cover a large area of water and locate schools of blackfin tuna, especially around offshore structures like oil rigs, wrecks, and buoys. Another effective technique for catching blackfin tuna in Galveston is live bait fishing. Anglers often use live baitfish such as pilchards, sardines, or small bonito to entice blackfin tuna. Live bait can be fished on the surface or at various depths using techniques like free-lining, slow trolling, or kite fishing. Presentation is key when using live bait, and anglers may need to adjust their rigging and bait placement to match the feeding behavior of blackfin tuna, which can vary depending on factors like water depth and current. Vertical jigging is also a popular technique for targeting blackfin tuna in Galveston, especially when fishing over deepwater structures or reefs. Anglers use heavy metal jigs that are dropped vertically through the water column and worked in a jerking motion to mimic injured baitfish. Vertical jigging requires precise rod control and timing to attract the attention of blackfin tuna and trigger strikes. This technique is particularly effective when blackfin tuna are holding near the bottom or suspended at mid-water depths, and it can produce fast-paced action for anglers looking to hook into these powerful and agile game fish.

What other species are popular in Galveson?

In addition to blackfin tuna, Galveston offers anglers a diverse range of other species to target throughout the year. One popular species among anglers is red snapper, known for its delicious taste and challenging fight. Red snapper can be found inhabiting the reefs, wrecks, and offshore structures around Galveston, particularly during the summer months when they are in season. Anglers often use live or dead bait such as squid, mullet, or cut fish to entice these prized bottom-dwellers. Another sought-after species in Galveston waters is king mackerel, also known as kingfish. These fast-swimming predators are often found nearshore and offshore, particularly around bait-rich areas such as reefs, wrecks, and oil rigs. King mackerel are known for their aggressive strikes and blistering runs, making them a favorite among anglers seeking an adrenaline-filled fishing experience. Anglers typically use live baitfish, such as cigar minnows or blue runners, as well as artificial lures like spoons and diving plugs to target king mackerel. Galveston is also home to a variety of shark species that provide anglers with thrilling battles and memorable fishing experiences. Species such as bull sharks, blacktip sharks, and hammerhead sharks can be found patrolling the waters around Galveston, particularly in deeper offshore areas. Anglers targeting sharks often use heavy tackle and large baits such as whole fish or chunks of bonito or mullet to attract these apex predators. Catching a shark can be an exhilarating experience, and anglers should always exercise caution and follow proper handling techniques when landing and releasing these powerful fish.

Charles Barkley craps on Pelicans, Galveston at same time

Charles Barkley smiles

Charles Barkley is showing no mercy for the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Pelicans lost 106-85 to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 3 of their Western Conference first-round playoff series on Saturday at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, La. The loss led the Pelicans to fall behind 3-0 in the series, and Barkley is effectively calling it over for New Orleans.

Not only is Chuck ready to send the Pelicans home from the playoffs, but he doesn’t even think they deserve the cliche trip to Cancun either. Rather, Barkley thinks the Pelicans should be sent to Galveston, Texas to spend their end-of-season trip.

“We not even going to send ’em to Cancun. We gonna send ’em to Galveston with that dirty a– water be washing up on the shore. People think they at the beach. … Y’all quit. Drive your a– down to Galveston,” Barkley joked.

Chuck’s had it with the Pelicans 💀 pic.twitter.com/hko6mQY8kN — NBA on TNT (@NBAonTNT) April 27, 2024

The TNT crew has a tradition of celebrating a team’s elimination from the postseason by sending them “Gone Fishin’.” The running joke is that teams head to Cancun for vacation after losing. But the Pelicans’ lack of effort has left Chuck feeling like the team doesn’t even deserve a Cancun trip — whether real or methaphorical.

C’mon, Chuck. Show some respect for Moody Gardens!
