Grilled fish at Yelken Balık
One of the best seafood restaurants in Ankara, Yelken Balık is the most popular representative of Aegean and Mediterranean cuisine in the city. Their hot and cold meze varieties are just a harbinger for the fresh, seasonal fish – best served grilled and with a glass of rakı .
İskender at Uludağ Kebabçısı
Uludağ Kebabçısı is famous in Ankara for its delicious iskender kebap , made of pide bread topped with thin slices of döner kebab, tomato sauce and melted butter. Though the menu also has many other kebab varieties, it’s the iskender that’s the trademark here.
Milk desserts at Zeynel
The spectrum of Turkish desserts is wide and varied – and at Zeynel, you’ll get the best of the milk desserts. Try the kazandibi (thick pudding with a slightly burned caramelised top), muhallebi (pudding with mastic), or tavuk göğsü (thick pudding with thin slices of chicken breast).
Baklava at Baklavacı Hacıbaba
An essential stop for the saccharine side of Turkish cuisine, Hacıbaba is the best place to get baklava in Ankara. The company was established in 1949, with the third generation of the owning family now in charge.
Döner kebab at Bursa Hacı Bey Kebabçısı
Bursa Hacı Bey Kebabçısı, open since 1961, serves döner kebab as it was intended – simple yet loyal to the traditional recipe and ingredients. The excellent cuts of döner are accompanied by tomato sauce and yogurt.
Sweets and lokum at Ali Uzun Şekercilik
The last stop on a dessert tour of Ankara leads to Ali Uzun, a marvellous sweet shop open since 1935, where you’ll find all the classic Turkish treats your heart desires. You’ll find akide şekeri (Turkish hard candy), with hazelnut, mint, strawberry, lemon, or cinnamon, as well as lokum (Turkish delight), helva , pişmaniye (floss candy), and almond paste.
Meze at Kalbur
You’ll have to make a reservation to get a table at this popular seafood restaurant. In a tavern-like atmosphere, enjoy amazing seasonal meze dishes, such as şevket-i bostan (thistle), sübyeli çorba (soup with ink fish), or palamut pilaki (horse mackerel with bean stew).
Esnaf dishes at Çiçek Lokantası
The esnaf lokantası (tradesmen restaurant) is an essential in Istanbul, but Ankara also has its Çiçek Lokantası for those classic home-cooked Turkish dishes that locals see as comfort food. You’ll find everything from traditional Turkish soups to meat and vegetable dishes, and desserts.

What to eat in Ankara? Where to eat in Ankara? 13 Traditional Foods You Have To Try in Ankara
MAIN INGREDIENTS
Even though lahmacun is popularly nicknamed Turkish pizza , that name doesn't really do justice to what this crunchy, doughy treat topped with spicy minced meat truly represents. In Turkey, lahmacun is the ultimate street food and a favorite lunchtime snack. It can be found at numerous street stalls as well as in virtually any traditional Turkish restaurant, but also in kebab eateries where they typically serve mini lahmacuns as appetizers. The perfect lahmacun is made by rolling a ball of sturdy semolina dough into a thin disc which is only lightly spread with meat - either lamb or beef, minced to a paste together with chili, onions, and other seasonings. The dish is then shortly baked in a super-hot (and preferably wood-fired) oven. Lahmacun is best served hot with a drizzle of lemon juice. It is traditionally enjoyed folded around the crispy onions and a parsley salad known as piyaz . It is recommended to pair lahmacun either with the salty, cold yogurt beverage called ayran , or şalgam suyu , the barrel-fermented juice of red carrot pickles, which is salted, spiced, and flavored with the aromatic turnip called çelem .

Kokoreç is a traditional Turkish dish that's also popular in other countries, especially in Greece, where it's known as kokoretsi . However, there are some differences between the Turkish and Greek versions. In Greek cuisine, people use lamb offal such as lungs, kidneys, hearts, and liver, and in Türkiye, they use small and large intestine and sweetbreads without any additional ingredients. For the Turkish version, kokoreç, the ingredients are rinsed and cleaned, then wrapped onto iron skewers to be grilled over charcoal. Once done, the dish is usually served with bread or tucked inside the bread with various spices such as oregano, cumin, and chili flakes. You can find this dish at street food vendors or in countless kokoreç restaurants.

Turkey Classics Tour
This is a short break but has completely covered western part of Türkiye. We were traveling during the 9 days public holiday of Ramadan. Our tour guide, Tamur had to adjust our itineraries on the fly so we could cover the places as it had been listed. Murat, our driver, found the short cut and managed the route well. We made it. Hotels are good location. Cave hotel is magnificent, good for photo and selfie. Overall, I recommend this tour.

Absolute Turkey
I want to thank Gonca so much for being our tour guide. She has made me fall in love once again with Turkey. I cannot fault anything for this trip. I recommend it to everyone.
Anatolian Civilizations | 10 Days
We really appreciated this 10 day trip. It is very well organized, nice hotels, excellent guide and very experienced driver. Some group members caused some problems and the guide managed it professionally. We were a group of 22 travelers and most of the people were nice and kind. The food is mediocre as it is an open buffet and not serving to the table. The pace of the trip is fast because Turkey is very big and I understand there are long roads to drive. This is how you see inside the country. The good think the driver stops every 2 hours for toilet or any other needs. for its price, the our outcome is excellent. We highly recommend this tour.
- Coach / Bus
Magic Carpet Tour
We went on the Magic Carpet Tour. Fez Travel were absolutely outstanding from the point of booking to the final transfer. We had a flight cancellation but they resolved the airport pickup immediately. You could get them on the phone. The tour itself is highly recommended. Our tour guide Ege was one of the best ever and we saw and did so much. The hotels picked were all great and the rest stops (there is a lot of travelling) were well selected. I cannot praise this company highly enough!

Turkish Secrets
We had a great time for our 7 nights on this tour, the hotel accommodation was excellent as was the food. Our guide Sedar made sure vegetarian options were available. Sedar was a fantastic guy, funny and informative. Our group at times was challenging for him, and us to be honest, yet he dealt with everyone really well and thanks to his humour and management we had a great time. Our driver was brilliant, drove safely and the coach was 1st class. Vert comfortable. I really do recommend this tour
Turkish Colours ( 8 days )
I have taken this tour in conjunction with TourRadar and EuropaMundo in Nov/Dec 2023. From booking to payment went very well and EuropaMundo conducted the tour in a professional way. Accommodations, meals, couch were excellent. A very good tour to remember. I will recommend it to others.

Timeless Cities in Modern Transportation: Turkey Unleashed 10 Day Tour
I had a wonderful time in Turkey, thanks to Dorak Tours and our wonderful tour guide, Mr. Yaser Bostancioglu. The accomodation, food was great, and we saw a lot of important highlights in a couple of days. Our professional tourist guide shared all his knowledge with us, and made us enjoy this trip to the fullest. I would definitely recommend this tour to all my friends. Upon booking, the sales consultant, Aleyna Gore also helped us a lot, making the entire process very smooth.

Classical Turkey
I came home wanted more of Turkey, the history, the beauty of the landscape, the diversity of climate, food, etc plus a great service from my guide Engin and my driver Osman, made this trip unforgettable. Thank you to Rachel for being my agent for a few years already
What people love about Ankara Tours
Had a great time! The tour guide, Eray, was knowledgeable and attentive, ensuring a smooth journey. Although there were several commercial stops, they added an local flavor. The hotels were of good standard, and the sights, especially in Cappadocia, were breathtaking. A well-organized and memorable trip!
Very good trip. The leader Engin was excellent and was at our Bec and call 24/7. I feel for his sanity he needs some nights off and just tell us about a few restaurants but not take us there - do his own thing. The whole group doesn’t need to always be together. We had one person that struggled to keep up with group and I felt some pressure to wait for her or help her- I don’t think she had much insight into the affect she was having on group. Otherwise was a great and diverse group.
