Trifecta has one of the largest list of bourbons in Austin but also makes a mean martini. You’ll go back to the earliest records of Texas history to learn about life in the Lone Star State before Europeans settled the land.
You’ll also learn about the disasterous arrival of the first Spanish Conquistadors to the region and why they quickly came to understand the expression, “Dont’ mess with Texas.”
Halcyon serves great drinks and cocktails at night but make sure to stop by the morning after your tour because they also have some of the best coffee in all of Austin. It’s here you’ll go back to the 1800s to learn exactly why Stephen F. Austin is called the “Father of Texas.” Our expert guide will also give you the run down on how Austin was able to convince a small group of people to settle the state’s great Frontier.
Dumont’s Down Low
At Dumont’s Down Low, you can ask the bartender to make you their version of a Texas inspired Long Island Ice Tea — crafted with Gin, Bourbon, ginger beer, Angostura Bitters, and a lime.
Here, our guides will offer up full details on some of the early Europeans to arrive in the state. You’ll find out how and why one famed early explorer was murdered by his own crew shortly after arriving in Texas.

If you rent the whole bike for your party, feel free to bring your own playlist. Decorations and costumes are welcome. We can also store small purses and bags on the bike.
What is the Tour Route?
The tour route is subject to change due to road closures out of our control; however, below is a map of our most frequent tour route. All tours start and end at 806 San Jacinto Blvd. The ride weaves its way around Downtown Austin and usually includes two Bar Stops. The longest leg of the tour is most often Dirty 6th Street!
Bring an ID that shows you are at least 21 years of age. Bring your own alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages (no glass or hard liquor). What can’t I bring on the Austin Bar Bike tour?

How many people can go on the Austin Bar Bike tour?
We need a minimum of 6 pedalers to move the bike efficiently. We can take a maximum of 14 people.

How hard is pedaling on the Bar Bike in Austin?
It is much easier than it looks! Teamwork is the key to success on the bike. A little effort goes a long way on a group ride. Pedaling passengers are only asked to exert a level of energy that is comfortable for that individual. There are also seats available that require no pedaling be done at all.
What should I wear during my Bar Bike Tour of Austin?
We encourage everyone to be comfortably dressed. Please keep in mind you will be pedaling. Also, the bike seats are elevated, so consider how upward breezes may affect your outfit. Closed toed shoes recommended, but for those wearing sandals we do have some non-pedaling seats available.
Do we stop anywhere during the tour of Austin?
Yes! There will be two stops on each tour. Our stops will be at some of our favorite local bars, allowing you to grab a drink, stretch your legs, and use their facilities. The stops will not be long as the vast majority of the tour takes place on the bike.
Where Does the Austin Tour Start? Where Does The Austin Tour End? Where Do I Park?
The best map pin to find the tour starting location is 806 San Jacinto
We start and end our tour in the middle of downtown Austin at the commercial loading zone in the alley between 8th and 9th street on San Jacinto Blvd. Though the loading zone is between two sides of a parking garage, paid public parking is only available in that garage on weekends after 5pm or during special events. You can frequently find public street parking on San Jacinto Blvd or 8th street close by. If street parking happens to be filled up there are two parking lots on 7th street, one on San Jacinto and one on Trinity, that almost always have space and are just a couple blocks away. Feel free to call us at (512) 539-7861 if you have any questions regarding parking and we can help direct you to the best of our ability.

People Love Our Live Music Crawl in Austin!
The Austin Detours Music Crawl was fantastic. Our personal guide and driver, “Ike” was extremely knowledgeable about the Austin music scene. Ike is himself a musician so he was able to provide insights from an insiders perspective.
This was the best thing we did while in Austin. We went to 3 different venues, all different types of music, and loved all of it! The transportation is comfortable, the guide is knowledgeable and considerate, and you can’t beat the experience for the price. Austin is number one in live music, and this tour is a great way to get a taste of it.
I have to rave about our fantastic evening with Austin Detours! Our tour guide for the Live Music Crawl, Joe, was awesome!! Friendly, fun, and knowledgeable, Joe was great!! Thank you for showing us a side of Austin we might not otherwise have seen. I will definitely be recommending you to others.
I was pleasantly surprised that the tour group was escorted via comfortable van to 3 different night spots with live bands of varying genres. The guide was very personable and amiable and entertained us with pertinent information on Austin ‘s music scene, etc. Fun!!
The live music crawl was a lot of fun! A great way to check out different three different bars and neighborhoods in Austin in a single night.

Jeremy Clarkson thinks only one of his Grand Tour co-stars will visit his pub
The farmer's dog has opened its doors close to jeremy clarkson's diddly squat farm.
Tom Earnshaw
Jeremy Clarkson is a busy man, with the former Top Gear man recently opening his first ever pub five years after turning his attention to the world of farming.
But he's not convinced his two longest on-screen mates will be stopping by the newly opened watering hole. In fact, he reckons one will avoid it completely.
Clarkson became a full-time farmer back in 2019, with the subsequent Amazon Prime Video documentary show Clarkson's Farm following his journey from Lamborghini cars to tractors over the past half a decade.
And with filming for the fourth season now in the home straight , the opening of The Farmer's Dog pub is set to feature heavily in series four as Jezza looks at news ways to sell his farm's produce, whether that be Hawkstone lager and cider or beef cooked in the pub restaurant's kitchen .
The pub is around 20 minutes away from Diddly Squat Farm, which is the main focus of Clarkson's Farm, with the watering hole found on the A40 in Asthall, a Cotswolds village near Burford in Oxfordshire.
Opening for the August bank holiday weekend, there were long queues outside the pub all weekend with some punters queuing from 8am on opening day.
And with his other Amazon Prime Video show The Grand Tour shortly coming to an end , Clarkson was asked by press on opening weekend if his co-stars Richard Hammond and James May might call in for a pint or bite to eat.
The end of The Grand Tour is likely to be the last time Clarkson, Hammond, and May work together on-screen having first started out on Top Gear in the early 2000s.
When asked at the pub if the other two would come and visit him at his pub, Clarkson replied: "James probably won’t, but Richard will.
"I talked to Richard only yesterday. We’re mates and we’ll still see them."
May might find it hard to spend time at the pub anyhow, given that signage exists stating he is banned from the pub by Clarkson alongside another very important person .
The trio moved to Prime Video after leaving Top Gear in 2015
A synopsis for the finale has also confirmed the episode will take part in Zimbabwe, with the logline reading: "In their last adventure, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May ignore the instructions of [producer] Mr [Andy] Wilman and head to Zimbabwe in three cars they’ve always wanted to own, a Lancia Montecarlo, a Ford Capri 3-litre, and a Triumph Stag.
"For a stunning road trip through beautiful and sometimes challenging landscapes leading to an emotional ending on a strangely familiar island."

How to watch the grand tour finale for free.
If you want to catch up before the final episode, all five previous seasons of The Grand Tour are exclusively available to watch on Prime Video . And that’s where the finale will air too.
As for how to watch it for free, if you don’t already have Prime Video, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial, which will also come with a few other perks such as free one-day delivery.

13 new restaurants to try in Austin, and 11 places we lost over the summer
If you spent the summer on the road or hiding inside from the Texas heat, you might have missed a healthy serving of restaurant openings and closings.
The city said goodbye to some neighborhood spots with impressively long tenures, while welcoming new businesses from existing local operators and international hospitality veterans.
Whether you’re looking for barbecue, salads, pizza, tacos or chicken-fried steak fingers, there’s a little something new on the scene for everyone.
New Austin restaurants that opened this summer
Bird dog pit bbq.
A new barbecue joint in an old spot. Bird Dog took over the building long inhabited by The Pit Room on Burnet Road. The traditional barbecue spot is helmed by Wink alumnus chef Rudy Rivera and Kati Luedecke, co-founder of Neighbors Dog Park & Cafe. The restaurant serves the Holy Trinity of brisket, ribs and sausage, along with loaded baked potatoes, sandwiches, classic sides and more.

“I’m excited to revive this Austin classic. I remember coming here with my uncle when I was younger, grabbing sliced brisket sandwiches or chopped brisket sandwiches,” Rivera said in a release at the time of the restaurant’s July opening. “Now that I have the opportunity to run this place, I hope to keep pushing out delicious Texas barbecue with a fresh spin.”
4707 Burnet Road. birddogpitbbq.com .
Bosses Office, a cocktail bar operated by the owners of Jacoby’s and Grizzelda’s added daytime concept, Break Room , to its East Austin space, serving pastries, salads, sandwiches and weekend brunch. 3223 E. Seventh St. bossesofficeaustin.com .
Desnudo Coffee
It may just be a coffee truck, but tell that to the legions of folks who regularly line up at the original East Austin location. Brothers Juan and Sergio Trujillo opened a second coffee truck location downtown in front of Fareground. The new spot is open Thursday-Sunday. 111 Congress Ave. desnudocoffee.com . ( Previous coverage .)
It presents as a bar with live music, but this new spot from the partners from Armadillo Den and Juniper has a robust food menu that includes fry bread tacos, suds-sopping sharables like wings and chicken fried steak tenders, and more. 1700 E. Cesar Chavez St. chalmersaustin.com .
The Dead Rabbit
New York City-based the Dead Rabbit, one of the country’s most celebrated modern Irish pubs, opened a location on Sixth Street. The bar revamped the space that B.D. Riley’s inhabited for 20 years before closing in 2020. It is the first location outside of Manhattan for the Dead Rabbit, which plans to expand to Washington D.C. and Boston in the next year.
Named after an Irish gang from the mid-1800s, the Dead Rabbit originally opened in downtown Manhattan in 2013 and quickly gained international acclaim for its whiskey punches, hand-chipped ice and throwback 19th century Irish pub vibes. The Dead Rabbit in NYC earned a spot on the World’s Best Bars list for North America each year from 2013 to 2016 and was named the World’s Best Bar in 2016. 204 E. Sixth St. thedeadrabbit.com . Ling Wu Asian Restaurant at the Grove
The reigning queen of Austin’s Chinese dining scene, chef Ling Qi Wu, opened her fifth restaurant in Austin in July. Along with her similarly named restaurant at Lantana in Southwest Austin, Ling Wu joins Qi, Ling Kitchen and Lin Asian Bar. 2625 Perseverance Drive. lingwugrove.com.

Mercado Sin Nombre
A coffee shop specializing in Mexican coffee and corn, this specialty grocer in East Austin also hosts events, like a pizza pop up from Small’s Pizza. 408 N. Pleasant Valley Road. mercadosinnombre.com .
Neighbourhood Cafe
Pastries and coffee in the morning and Guinness-braised quesadillas in the afternoon are part of the draw at this Belfast-based companion cafe to neighboring Irish pub the Dead Rabbit. 204 E. Sixth St. neighbourhood.cafe .
Pedroso’s Pizza
One of Austin’s most popular food trucks now operates a pizza kitchen from inside Christmas-themed Lala’s Little Nugget in North Austin. While Pedroso’s three existing trailers focus on square pizzas, the new location serves the squares, along with New York-style, charred thin crust and an “American style” pizza. 2207 Justin Lane. Suite D. pedrosospizza.com .
Travis Tober, a co-owner of Murray’s and Nickel City, helped oversee the revamping of the historic pool at this renovated hotel restaurant. The sunken dining room, which offers a menu of tacos, burgers and pizza, offers underwater views of the hotel pool. 650 E. 10th St. swimclubaustin.com . ( Previous coverage .)
One of the most popular taquerias in Austin introduced a new menu of cocktails when it moved into its newest location, including a spicy tequila cocktail fueled by the restaurant's famed green Doña Salsa.
The eighth Austin location of Tacodeli, the brand created by chef/founder Roberto Espinosa and partner Eric Wilkerson in 1999, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Tacodeli took over the building briefly occupied by Masa y Mas. But some Austinites will remember the familiar space as the home to the first Austin's Pizza, and others, with longer histories in Austin, may remember it as the home of Compadres Cafe and Cantina from 1983 to 1996. 1817 S. Lamar Blvd. tacodeli.com . ( Previous coverage .)
Uncle Nicky’s
The Italian cafe, the original location of which is located in Hyde Park, opened across the parking lot from Loro, serving antipasti, salads, sandwiches, pasta, desserts, coffee drinks and cocktails. 2121 S. Lamar Blvd. unclenickys.com .
Yuki Hand Roll
The sushi restaurant that made the American-Statesman’s list of Best New Restaurants in 2023 opened a second location, this one between Lake Travis and Anderson Mill on FM 620. The restaurant’s full name is Yuki Hand Roll Bar, but make sure to try their nigiri sushi first. 7900 N. FM 620. Suite 100. yukihandroll.com .

1407 Bistro
A highly coveted address on a quickly developing South Austin artery will go through another evolution following the closure of this bistro. Restaurant co-owner and operator Allison Welsh says the property will undergo new development.
The space was originally home to modern Thai restaurant Sway, which operated from 2012 until late 2020. Hopfields co-founder Bay Anthon was part of the team that took over the space in 2021 , when 1417 originally opened. The duck crepes from the restaurant made the American-Statesman's year-end list of some of the city's best new dishes in 2021 . The restaurant altered its concept in 2022, officially becoming 1417 French Bistro. ( Previous coverage .)
Ah Sing Den
The cocktail lounge that enjoyed an eight-year run on East Sixth Street closed in June. Owners are teaming with FAM Hospitality, co-founded by Paul Qui, for a new restaurant OKO, which will be helmed by Philippine-born chef Harold Villarosa.
Aviary Wine & Kitchen
Mike Smith and partner Chris Ragland purchased Aviary Wine & Kitchen in the summer of 2023 in hopes of reviving the longtime restaurant that was at the brink of shuttering due to the financial hits of Covid and a historically hot summer. The duo’s stewardship lasted about a year. ( Previous coverage .)
Less than a year after opening, Bacalar, the sophisiticated Yucatán-inspired Mexican restaurant from "Top Chef" winner Gabe Erales , has closed.
“Bacalar was a very ambitious project that was focused on the regions and cuisine of the Yucatán. Our hope was to create a thoughtful project of inclusion and proper representation of Mexican culture,” Erales told the American-Statesman. “We hoped it could be a restaurant patrons enjoyed daily, but (it) seemed to quickly be perceived as a special occasion restaurant. That, coupled with location and the financial strains of local ingredients in the growing, challenging environment of the industry in Austin, made it very difficult to be profitable."
The restaurant’s owner, Urbanspace CEO and founder Kevin Burns, decided to transition the restaurant to a larger version of the more casual concept Tómalo Taquería that had operated out of an adjacent space. ( Previous coverage .)
Savannah chef Mashama Bailey, who has won James Beard awards for Best Chef Southeast and Best Chef in the country, closed her two restaurants (Diner Bar and Grey Market) at the Thompson hotel in July.
Big name outside chefs have not had great success opening restaurants in Austin, and Bailey's fine dining restaurant that served the Southern port food inspired by her Georgia roots never seemed to gain a strong local following. I mentioned my concern that Bailey may have trouble drawing locals to her downtown spaces when I reviewed Diner Bar very positively in 2022 . ( Previous coverage .)
Interview from 2022: Chef Mashama Bailey brings famous Savannah touch to Austin’s new Diner Bar and Grey Market
Donkey Mo’s
The Korean fried chicken restaurant that got its start in 2018 at H-Mart closed its South Lamar Boulevard location in the Lamar Union complex. The location at 5312 Airport Blvd. remains open.
Elementary, which served modern global cuisine that was often a mash-up of cultures (mole tortellini, gnocchi with chili crisp), closed its doors with little warning after just over a year in business. Partners Chris Arial, Allan Bautista and chef Colter Peck, who operated the restaurant in the building that was previously home to Henri’s wine bar, still run the neighboring wine bar, Hopscotch. ( Previous coverage .)
The Mueller location of the coffee shop and cafe that got its start in the Warehouse District announced its closure in mid-August. The original remains, as do locations in Dallas and San Antonio.
Hi Hat Public House
The bar and grill in East Austin closed after an impressive 12-year run.
LeRoy & Lewis truck
One of Austin's best barbecue trucks served its final plate of smoked meats at Cosmic Coffee + Beer in July, as the owners shifted all of their focus to their recently opened restaurant in South Austin.

Salt & Time
A significant chapter in the story of Austin’s artisanal and sustainable food community came to an end when butcher shop, salumeria, restaurant and wine shop Salt & Time closed its doors.
The hybrid restaurant/market opened its brick-and-mortar location on East Seventh St. in 2013, led by partners Ben Runkle and butcher Bryan Butler. It was among the vanguard of new businesses taking an old-school approach to procuring, butchering and aging meats.
Salt & Time sold the location and equipment to Radius Butcher & Grocery, a new farm-to-table butcher and grocery that, like its predecessor, sources product from Texas farms and purveyors. ( Previous coverage .)
