Breeze Airways is offering 50% off (almost) all round-trip flights purchased by 11:59 p.m. PT on Sept. 5.

To take advantage of the deal, travelers should use promo code BIGDEAL at checkout. The 50% discount applies only to the base airfare and not to taxes and fees.

The low cost leisure carrier focuses on serving secondary airports and smaller cities for the most part, and is slowly growing its route network across the country.

“As summer fades following the busy Labor Day weekend, I know I like to start preparing for my next big adventure, as do many other travelers,” David Neeleman, Breeze Airways’ founder and CEO said in a statement. “There’s no better way to do that than by taking advantage of one of our biggest promotions of the year."

Is Breeze Airways Good? Honest Review + Experiences (2024)

  • Post author: Rachel Means
  • Post last modified: 2024-02-26

Are ultra low cost airlines ever really worth it? Sometimes, yes. It’s hard to argue with roundtrip tickets for two under $150.

That is, if they can actually deliver you on time to your destination without losing your luggage or breaking your legs just to fit in the seats.

We’ve all heard the horror stories from a certain yellow low cost airline, but you can’t assume all low cost carriers are the same. So, is Breeze Airways good?

We tested it for you, and we can confidently say they’re worth it!

We’ve flown on Breeze several times in 2023 and tested out several different options to get a comprehensive picture of what it’s like to fly on Breeze Airways.

Let’s look at all the features, booking options, and the flight experience and help you decide if Breeze Airways is good enough for you, too.

Table of Contents

Quick Summary: Is Breeze Airways Worth It?

Yes, in our experience, flying on Breeze Airways is worth it.

  • Great price!
  • Comfortable seats with leg room
  • On-time (but we had decent weather each time)
  • No luggage issues (tried both carry-on and checked)
  • No customer service issues

With the right expectations, Breeze is an affordable way to travel more in the eastern US and parts of the Southwest. Plus, their network keeps growing to new destinations each year.

A blue Breeze Airways plane at the gate in Charleston, SC

Now, this isn’t one of the major full-service airlines, so don’t expect all the bells and whistles yet.

Things we didn’t like:

  • Temperamental, basic mobile app (but we’ve seen improvements already)
  • Limited drinks included (water/coffee)
  • Snacks and other drinks available for a fee
  • No in-flight entertainment or wifi ( Wifi is now available as of February 2024! )

Low cost carriers often make you jump through lots of á la carte pricing hoops. That’s how they keep fares so low, but it feels like getting nickeled and dimed to death.

Breeze, though, still has fare tiers that bundle some amenities together.

So while you can book a cheap base Nice fare and add on á la carte baggage or snacks, you could also book a Nicer or Nicest tier fare instead and get some features included without the extra clicks.

The included base amenities are few and far between, but that’s how you get the cheap fare for those that don’t need or want to pay for amenities they won’t use.

While it’s #firstworldproblems annoying to have to buy a snack or soda before we get on the airplane, it’s absolutely worth the $300 we saved booking Breeze instead of a full-service carrier that includes a snack and drink.

We will fly Breeze again, for sure!

Is Breeze Legit? (No, You’re Not a Guinea Pig.)

New airlines are one of those things that people don’t want to be the first to try. Nobody wants to be the guinea pig.

We get it. We also prefer reading reviews and then choosing.

But we had several trips planned this year where the Breeze Airways fare was considerably cheaper than taking one of the bigger airlines, and was a direct flight!

So, we looked into them and decided to try it.

A printed boarding pass for a Breeze flight

Breeze Airways is a new low-cost airline, established in 2018 and launched its first flight in 2021.

It’s geared towards underserved markets , usually smaller airports that would require a layover or two at a hub city if you were to fly on a bigger airline.

I love that they connect smaller airports, because if you’ve ever tried to fly to a smaller airport, you know how aggravating and expensive it can be to get there via one of the major airlines.

Breeze uses smaller planes, too, which, in our opinion, is great!

All the smaller Embraer planes are 2-and-2 seating. No middle seats! Even the larger Airbus planes are 2-and-3 seating in economy, so only one side has middle seats.

These planes get the same attention and maintenance as any other airline. They’re not better or worse. The FAA holds them all to the same standards.

Breeze Airways Features

Let’s look at some specifics. The real info you want is in the details:

  • Where does Breeze fly?
  • Is the price fair, or do you pay for what you get?
  • Are you packed like sardines into the seats?
  • Do you have to pay extra for carry-on and checked bags?
  • Are there snacks?
  • Seat back screens or no?
  • How’s the staff?

We’ve flown with Breeze in 3 different states and have tried out almost all of their amenities and upgrades at this point.

We’re able to compare and contrast and provide helpful tips so you can decide if flying Breeze is the right move for you on your next getaway!

Let’s start with routes.

Where Breeze Flies

Breeze Airways specifically serves smaller airports so it can compete with the bigger airlines.

If you want to fly Atlanta to Boston, Breeze isn’t for you.

But if you want to fly Charleston to Providence (hint: we have!) then Breeze is a great option.

That doesn’t mean they don’t fly to any big cities. Breeze flies to Las Vegas , Phoenix, San Francisco, Cincinnati, Orlando, New Orleans, and more.

But its bread and butter are smaller but popular spots: Charleston, SC; Fort Meyers, FL; Provo, UT; Syracuse, NY; Norfolk, VA, etc.

Check out the Breeze website , scroll down on that first page, and you’ll see a map of the Breeze network. Hover over a city name, and you’ll see where you can fly to from that airport.

Most of their flights are direct, but they don’t have as many flights per day as major airlines.

Direct flights save so much time but usually cost an arm and a leg compared to a flight with a layover. That’s not the case with Breeze, in our experience.

You won’t have as many times to choose from but you’ll get to your destination with less hassle.

What About Delays or Cancellations?

Yes, that’s a risk with any airline, but I like how easy it is to address this quickly yourself in the app if something comes up.

First, it’s important to know that ALL Breeze flights are non-refundable, with the exception of the 24hr rule and if they have to cancel a flight.

Second, for any Breeze flight, you are able to cancel or modify your reservation up to 15 minutes before scheduled departure for flight credits, which have to be used within 2 years.

If something comes up and you have to cancel , it’s simple to do in the app or on their website.

If Breeze has to cancel , get in line with the gate agent with everyone else, just in case, but then get into the app and find your own flight. Options will fill up fast if they’re rescheduling an entire plane.

You can pick a new flight any time in the next 14 days for no additional cost.

If none of those work, you can request a refund from Breeze instead and book elsewhere.

Just be careful if you’re requesting a refund in the app that you don’t use the ‘cancel and credit booking’ button. That gives you flight credit, not a cash refund.

Breeze has three pricing tiers (Nice, Nicer, and Nicest) which are equivalent to basic economy, economy plus, and first class.

They keep costs down by allowing customers to choose the amenities they want to pay for.

When you’re booking, it can feel like you’re getting nickeled and dimed to death, adding $20 here and $10 there.

But do the math (we’ll have examples in a minute), and you’ll find that you’re still getting a better deal than if you’d booked through a major carrier.

Two Nicer fare seats on a Breeze Airways flight

The Nice tier is like basic economy on other airlines. You get nothing but a seat, and you don’t even get to choose that.

Picking a seat, adding a soda, or bringing a carry-on bag are all upcharges at this pricing tier.

The Nicer tier is like economy plus on other airlines. You get a seat that you choose, a carry-on bag, and a checked bag.

You’ll still have to add on a snack or soda, but the big expenses are included.

The Nicest tier is Breeze’s version of first class. They call it Ascent.

You’ll choose a seat in the first few rows with the most leg room on the plane, get a carry-on bag and checked bag included, and, finally, a snack and non-alcoholic beverage is included, too.

Our Recommendations:

We’ve found that if you only need a seat and a carry-on bag, then it’s usually more cost effective to buy a Nice fare and add seat selection and the bag as an upcharge.

But that’s not always the case. If the fare difference between Nice and Nicer is $50 or less, go with the Nicer fare.

If you need a checked bag, take the Nicer fare and get a better seat.

We haven’t tried the Nicest (first class) fare yet because we don’t see the need, to be honest.

Extra leg room on a Breeze Airways flight

The seats are better on some planes (we’ll discuss that next), and you get a snack and drink, but that’s not worth the added cost.

The Nicer fare seats have plenty of leg room, start in the 6th row on most planes, and cost less. Bring a snack and save some money .

Seats Types, Leg Room, and Cushions

>> seat types.

Breeze Airways is low cost so don’t expect the world’s comfiest plane seats. You’ll find pretty basic seats in all classes, depending on the plane.

Ascent rows, the first class seats on Breeze Airways planes

Some planes are nicer than others. Usually, the further you have to fly or the more popular the route, the nicer the plane’s seats.

We’ve flown from South Carolina to Rhode Island in barebones seats. We’ve also flown from South Carolina to Florida in seats with adjustable head rests and squishier cushions.

On some planes, the only distinguishing feature between seat classes is the colored stripe on the seats. Yellow for Nice (economy), Red for Nicer (economy plus), and the separated seats typical of first class.

  • If you choose a Nice tier ticket and want to choose your seats, it’s an additional charge to do so.
  • If you choose a Nicer tier ticket, choosing your seat is included, but choosing a seat in an exit row, for example, will incur a small upcharge.
  • If you choose a Nicest tier ticket, you’ll choose a first class seat in the first few rows of the plane.

As we mentioned a minute ago, we don’t actually think the first class seats are better than the Nicer tier seats.

On the bigger planes, they are bigger/more separated from their neighbors, but the cushions look the same. If that changes as they upgrade their fleet, we’ll update this.

>> Leg Room

Leg room in economy was decent. My 6’-2” husband fit his knees in just fine with no painful squishing against the back of the seat in front of him.

Comparing knee room in the Nice (Base Economy) fare on a Breeze Airways flight

That being said, they’re still economy seats so there’s not tons of room, just a couple inches of space.

If you prefer a roomier fit, you can pay to upgrade to a seat with extra legroom.

The extra legroom seats are night and day difference! There really is a LOT of legroom in the extra legroom seats.

The extra leg room available in the first row of Nicer fare seats on a Breeze flight

We book Nicer fares almost every time now because of the legroom and included luggage.

>> Cushions

There’s not much cushioning to speak of in these seats. We wouldn’t call them uncomfortable , but they’re also not cushy enough to fall asleep in, in our opinion.

If you’re tall, watch out for the extra head rest cushions. On the flights with basic seats (Embraer planes), we had no problems.

An extra headrest cushion extended during a flight for the comfort of taller passengers on a Breeze flight

On the Airbus planes, though, the neck cushion was in Mr. Means to Explore’s shoulder blades during takeoff and landing.

Good to Know : For first class seats, some planes (the Airbuses) have the really wide, separated first class seats with extra cushions. Others (the smaller Embraers) have the same type of seats as the other classes, just with a bit more leg room.

Nicer and Nicest bundle tiers include bags, but you can add bags if you buy the cheapest Nice tier, which doesn’t include bags.

Pro Tip : Always check the cost before you check out. Sometimes the cost of a Nice fare + bag is about the same as the cost of a Nicer fare ticket, which includes more perks than just one bag.

It’s always cheaper to pay for bags online ahead of your trip.

If you add a bag at the airport check-in desk, it’s higher.

If you have to add a bag at the gate because yours doesn’t meet required dimensions, it’s much higher.

Snacks & Drinks

The most controversial thing about Breeze flights, in our opinion, is snacks aren’t included unless you buy a first class ticket.

It’s such a little thing that we were surprised it wasn’t included, and it tends to catch many by surprise based on our fellow passengers’ responses from the flights we took this year.

The drink and snack menu on a Breeze flight from summer 2023

Snacks are available for purchase , but it’s probably a better deal to buy something in the airport before you board.

Same goes for drinks.

Water and coffee are the only free, included drinks.

Sodas, juices, and, of course, alcoholic beverages are all available for a fee. On our 2023 flights, a can of soda was $4 and most liquor, beer, and wine were $9.

Wifi (Added in 2024!)

The lack of wifi used to be the second most-often repeated letdown about Breeze Airways. Wifi used to be only available on certain flights, and there was always a fee.

We personally didn’t care about this. The flights we took weren’t long, a few hours, and we always bring our own entertainment, like music or books or phone games.

>> In February 2024, Breeze announced High Speed Wifi is now available on all flights!

Wifi is included for free when you buy a Nicer or Nicest bundle tier , and that counts for everyone on your itinerary. If you buy 4 tickets on one itinerary, you all can use the wifi.

Just one more reason we will always choose the Nicer fare on our future Breeze flights.

If you still want the Nice fare (the basic economy option), you can add on wifi for a fee.

Seat Back and In-Flight Entertainment

Breeze Airways planes don’t have seat back screens .

As of February 2024 they have wifi and in-flight entertainment (movies and TV) on all flights, but you need to bring your own screen, be that a tablet or phone.

Their planes do have a holder for your phone or tablet , though, which is honestly more helpful than some of the terrible screens we’ve seen on other airlines’ older planes.

But this is still something to be aware of if that’s important to you.

We always recommend having your own entertainment downloaded to your device, just in case, but many of you will be happy with the addition of wifi and in-flight entertainment.

A foldable tray table on a Breeze Airways flight

Customer Service

We haven’t had to really put the Breeze employees to the test yet for customer service under pressure.

We had good weather on all our Breeze flights so far, so no delays or issues for which we’ve had to work with them.

But the interactions we’ve had with Breeze Airways staff so far has been all positive.

The flight attendants were all helpful and cordial, even when having to explain to every other row that snacks and soda were not included.

The gate agents were nice, and the check-in desk for luggage drop were all good.

Good to Know : The check-in desk for luggage drop (outside of security) doesn’t open until 2 hours before your flight. If you arrive at the airport earlier than that, then you’ll have to wait to be able to check your luggage and go through security.

Doing the Math: Cost Comparison with Other Major Airlines

Here’s a few side-by-side examples of flights we’ve researched for the busy 2023-2024 New Year holiday weekend.

We specifically chose the holiday weekend because flight prices are always high for holidays, and you’ll still see how good of a deal Breeze flights can be!

Regular flights on non-holiday weekends with 2-3 months’ notice can be roughly half the cost shown here.

Example 1: Charleston, SC to Providence, RI (Eastern Seaboard)

Note: We’ve done this flight during the summer busy season for Newport and can confirm Nicer flights for two people were under $470 roundtrip.

Example 2: Charleston, SC to Tampa, FL (Short Hop)

Note: Same here! We’ve done this flight in the summer on a Nicer fare for two people, roundtrip, for $500.

Example 3: Hartford, CT to Las Vegas, NV (Cross Country)

Note: Book this same trip two weeks later and the price drops in half on all airlines. But even at its highest price, Breeze is still beating out the major airlines by hundreds of dollars per person .

Breeze is a Good Option for Smaller Airports!

If you’re flying between smaller airports in the eastern half of the US, we recommend trying Breeze. The price is pretty incredible, and you’ll more than likely save yourself a layover.

We’ve flown Breeze several times already and will again in the future!

Happy travels!

You may not have heard of start-up carrier Breeze Airways, but it’s among the fastest-growing airlines in the country. Created by JetBlue founder David Neeleman in 2021, Breeze takes a different approach compared to most other airlines.

Straddling the line between a budget and full-service airline, Breeze’s primary differentiator is that it enters smaller to mid-sized markets. This is quite different than legacy airlines which operate on a hub-and-spoke model, where travelers connect through a larger hub before arriving at their final destination.

Since its debut in 2021, Breeze has introduced routes to dozens of American cities. It has already become a passenger favorite thanks to its flexible change and cancellation policies. Combined with a low-fare model, travelers from these smaller cities can visit new destinations at a lower cost thanks to Breeze.

With an enticing business model, you may wonder: What is it like to fly with Breeze Airways?

I flew Breeze twice in the past year — from Raleigh-Durham (RDU) to Los Angeles (LAX) and Providence (PVD). In this review, I’ll go through everything you should know before flying the airline.

Airline:  Breeze Airways Alliance:  None Category:  Ultra-low-cost carrier Frequent Flyer Program:  None Tag Line:  “Seriously Nice.” About/Mission Statement:  “Breeze provides nonstop service between underserved routes across the U.S. at affordable fares. With seamless booking, no change or cancellation fees, and customized flight features, Breeze makes it easy to buy and easy to fly.” Fleet: 35+ planes (Airbus A220-300, Embraer E190, Embraer E195) Headquarters:  Cottonwood Heights, Utah Primary Airports: Charleston International Airport (CHS), Hartford Bradley International Airport (BDL), Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) , Norfolk International Airport (ORF), Orlando International Airport (MCO) , Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport (PVD), Provo Airport (PVU), and Tampa International Airport (TPA) Destinations:  45+ (in the continental U.S.)

Breeze serves a wide variety of airports across the U.S., bringing services that other airlines may have neglected in the past. In 2024 alone, Breeze began operating in cities like Gulfport, Mississippi, and Burlington, Vermont — with no signs of slowing down.

Unlike traditional airlines, Breeze doesn’t usually offer flights every single day of the week as it operates a point-to-point model. For instance, some routes may only operate on a once-weekly or twice-weekly basis .

In other cases, Breeze may only offer certain routes seasonally. With an ever-changing schedule, the best way to see the airline’s updated schedule is by searching for flights through Breeze’s website directly or via its mobile app ( iOS , Android ).

While the vast majority of Breeze flights are nonstop routes, the airline debuted its unique “BreezeThru” service in 2023. BreezeThru is a one-stop routing that allows passengers and their bags to stay onboard as the flight picks up the next set of travelers.

For instance, my flight from Los Angeles (LAX) to Raleigh-Durham (RDU) was marketed as a “BreezeThru” service to Hartford (BDL). As I disembarked the plane to Raleigh-Durham, some passengers stayed on the plane as Breeze continued onto Hartford. Then, Breeze also picked up more passengers from Raleigh-Durham to Hartford.

The airline sticks true to its “Seriously Nice” theme by offering 2 main fare classes: Nice and Nicer. A third fare class, Nicest, is only available on its A220 aircraft — more on this below.

Speaking in colloquial airline terms, the Nice class is more akin to a standard basic economy fare. This will be the cheapest ticket by far, but you’re limited to a personal item (larger carry-on bags cost extra) and will not be allowed to pick a seat assignment in advance.

Breeze Airways Check in Counter LAX

The Nicer level comes with several extra benefits that may be worth the surcharge. More like a premium economy fare, you’ll enjoy an extra legroom seat assignment (with up to 34 inches of legroom!) and a free carry-on and checked bag.

Finally, the Nicest level on the A220 is similar to a domestic first class product on other airlines , with up to 2 free checked bags and unlimited snacks and beverages onboard. Depending on the aircraft you’re flying, you’ll even get a much better seat, called Ascent class. Only available on the airline’s A220, this seat is a spacious recliner with a whopping 39 inches of legroom.

Breeze Airways Ascent Class A220

Given the options, which ticketing option should you pick? Budget travelers who can pack everything in a personal item the size of a backpack can find immense value from the Nice fare, while most travelers will benefit from booking a Nicer ticket that includes a seat assignment and bags.

Even as a budget-friendly airline, Breeze offers one of the most flexible modification policies (which we’ll discuss further in-depth below). All travelers — even in the base-level Nice class — can change or cancel their flight up to 15 minutes before departure and receive credit valid for future travel up to 24 months.

Travelers can earn BreezePoints by booking flights and paying for extra surcharges on the airline (the base fare excludes any taxes and fees associated with the ticket).

  • Nice: 2% of the base fare
  • Nicer: 4% of the base fare
  • Nicest: 6% of the base fare
  • Carry-On and Checked Baggage: 4% of the charge
  • Seat Selection: 4% of the charge
  • Pet Fee: 4% of the charge

As mentioned, travelers can change or cancel their flights (in any fare class) up to 15 minutes before departure. The future travel credit is awarded in the form of BreezePoints and will also expire 2 years after issuance.

In addition, the airline hints that travelers will soon be able to earn more BreezePoints on other items purchased, including inflight snacks and beverages.

BreezePoints are simple to earn and just as easy to use as they’re worth 1 cent apiece. In other words, 1,000 BreezePoints would be worth $10 toward future Breeze flights.

At this time, Breeze does not offer an elite status program. However, the airline plans to debut its first-ever co-branded credit card with Barclays in early 2024, allowing loyal flyers to earn even more BreezePoints from their daily spending.

Avelo Airlines was formed in 2021, around the same time as Breeze. Both airlines offer similar operating models, so be sure to read through our extensive review on flying Avelo Airlines which covers fees, seats, amenities, and more.

Travelers may be subject to several baggage fees depending on the ticket they booked, which may already include carry-on or checked bags.

That said, those baggage fees can add up quickly, so booking the Nicer fare might make sense instead of paying these extra charges.

Baggage Fees

All travelers can bring 1 free personal item onboard no larger than 17 x 13 x 8 inches (43 x 33 x 20 centimeters), no matter if they’re booked in Nice, Nicer, or Nicest class.

Flyers in Nicer and Nicest can bring 1 free carry-on bag onboard no larger than 24 x 14 x 10 inches (61 x 35 x 25 centimeters). The carry-on bag also is subject to a maximum weight of 35 pounds, though anecdotally, this is rarely enforced.

Breeze Airways Gate LAX

Additionally, Nicer class flyers can check 1 free bag, while Nicest class flyers can check up to 2 free bags. The maximum size of these checked bags is 62 linear inches, and the maximum weight is 50 pounds each.

This means travelers in Nice class (basic economy) are subject to both carry-on and checked-bag fees. However, Breeze’s baggage fees are dynamically priced depending on the route you’re flying.

The airline has made it easy to know how much you’ll be charged by entering your travel details on its baggage fees page . That said, Breeze’s carry-on fees range from $30 to $35, based on a few sample route searches conducted by Upgraded Points. It appears that shorter flights charge the $30 rate, while cross-country and transcontinental routes have a slightly higher $35 rate.

Travelers can check up to 3 bags on any flight, and the following baggage fees apply:

  • First Bag: $35 to $40
  • Second Bag: $55
  • Third Bag: $65

Overweight and oversized bags are subject to additional fees per flight:

  • 51 to 71 Pounds: $20 fee
  • 71 to 99 Pounds: $50 fee
  • 63 to 80 Inches: $50 fee

Checked bags weighing over 99 pounds or measuring more than 80 linear inches will not be accepted.

In any case, travelers should consider adding bags to their reservations in advance. Carry-on and checked bags charged at the airport — or when calling customer service — result in an additional $75 fee per bag.

Canceled your ticket and prepaid for bags? You’ll also receive credit in the form of BreezePoints toward a future flight (or bag).

Guest Empowerment Team Booking:  Breeze allows you to book flights or modify your booking online or through the Breeze app. You can also reach out to Breeze’s customer service team via text or email, but all bookings or ticket modifications will result in a non-refundable $9 fee per traveler.

Seat Assignment: Travelers booked in the Nice class will have to pay extra to pick their seats in advance. If you’d rather not roll the dice, you can expect to pay between $10 to $50 for a Nice seat assignment and a $20 to $75 fee for a Nicer seat, depending on the flight.

Snacks and Beverages:  Breeze does not provide complimentary snacks or beverages for travelers (except water). There’s an inflight menu where you can purchase food and drink, including snack boxes.

Breeze Airways Inflight Menu

Modification Fees: Breeze offers one of the best modification policies for travelers: You can change or cancel your Breeze flight online 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

You’ll receive a full refund to the original payment method if you cancel your flight within 24 hours of booking and at least 7 days (168 hours) before departure. After this window, you’ll receive a travel credit to your BreezePoints, which will, again, expire after 2 years.

Priority Boarding:  At this time, Breeze does not offer priority boarding to passengers who are not ticketed for Nicer and Nicest class. However, travelers who need extra time to board the plane may be able to board for no additional cost before general boarding begins.

Infant (Lap Child) Fee:  Breeze does not charge for lap infants older than 14 days old or under 2 years of age.

Unaccompanied Minor Fee: Breeze does not accept reservations for unaccompanied minors 13 years of age or younger. All travelers between 13 and 18 are considered adults and therefore do not incur unaccompanied minor fees if flying solo on a Breeze flight. However, they must travel with an adult on multi-segment flights, including BreezeThrus and connecting flights.

Pet Transport Fee:  There’s a $75 fee for 1 pet (maximum of 25 pounds). The pet must fit in a soft-shell carrier which must fit under the seat in front of you. There’s a maximum of 5 pets allowed per flight on a first-come, first-served basis.

Wi-Fi Fee: Breeze is finishing installing Viasat Wi-Fi across its fleet of A220-300 jets in 2024. Wi-Fi is free for Nicest passengers, while all other travelers pay between $5 and $8 to be connected for an entire flight.

How To Avoid Excess Fees

You can avoid paying all of the aforementioned fees by carrying the right travel credit card .

By using an eligible Capital One card , you can redeem Capital One miles for 1 cent each as a statement credit for eligible travel purchases (baggage, seat assignments, etc.) purchased within 90 days. For example, a $35 carry-on bag fee on Breeze would only require 3,500 Capital One miles.

Despite being a low-cost airline, Breeze offers a surprising amount of onboard amenities, primarily because of its brand-new fleet of A220 jets.

Inflight Amenities: The exact amenities will depend on the aircraft you’re scheduled to fly on.

Breeze has nearly 2 dozen A220-300 in service reserved for many of its longer domestic flights, which are equipped with the most amenities by far. All travelers will enjoy USB-A and USB-C power ports and inflight entertainment powered by Breeze’s app. Ascent class passengers enjoy free snacks and beverages, 120V AC power outlets, and Wi-Fi (if available).

Some of Breeze’s flights are quite long, especially with its slew of new transcontinental routes the airline plans to launch from San Diego (SAN) . The downside is there are no hot meals in Nicest class (or for purchase), so you’ll want to plan accordingly to avoid going hungry.

Breeze A220 Amenities

The airline’s E190/E195 reserved for shorter hops do not have power outlets. However, passengers can connect to the inflight entertainment system for movies and TV shows through the Breeze app and purchase snacks and drinks for an additional fee.

Seat Specs: Breeze’s hard product continues to impress first-time and long-time air travelers, with spacious seating throughout the cabin.

  • A220: Nice seats are 18 inches wide with 30 inches of legroom; Nicer seats are 18 inches wide with 33 inches of legroom; and 12 Nicest class seats are 20.5 inches wide with 39 inches of legroom. There are 137 seats in total.
  • E195: Nice seats that are 17.6 inches wide with 31 inches of legroom; Nicer seats that are 17.6 inches wide with 34 to 39 inches of legroom. There are 108 seats in total.
  • E190: Nice seats that are 17.6 inches wide with 29 inches of legroom; Nicer seats that are 17.6 inches wide with 33 to 39 inches of legroom. There are 118 and 124 seats in total, depending on the specific aircraft you fly.

Breeze’s A220 is arranged in a 2-2 configuration in Ascent class and a 3-2 configuration in the rest of the cabin. Its smaller E195/E190 aircraft are arranged in a 2-2 configuration.

Breeze is a newer airline, so there’s not much government-backed data to show the airline’s delay and cancellation statistics. For example, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ latest data set (from October 2023) doesn’t report any information on Breeze.

Performance

Between December 2023 and January 2024, Breeze’s flights were on-time about 61% of the time, according to data from Airportia . During this time frame, average delay times were about 46 minutes, and Breeze canceled about 1% of its flights.

Did you know that some credit cards offer trip cancellation and interruption coverage ? If your flight is delayed or canceled by the airline, you can be reimbursed once you file a claim.

Consumer Rankings, Ratings, Etc.

From Airline Quality Rankings (AQR) , Breeze has received a 3/10 from consumers. This ranking isn’t too far off from the current ratings of other carriers, ranging from ultra-low-cost to full-service options:

  • American Airlines:  2/10
  • Avelo Airlines:  3/10
  • Delta Air Lines:  4/10
  • Frontier Airlines:  2/10
  • Southwest Airlines:  4/10
  • Spirit Airlines:  2/10

Here at Upgraded Points, we’re big fans of Breeze Airways.

Breeze offers competitive fares to destinations that have traditionally been underserved by legacy airlines. After all, more competition means cheaper flights for travelers across the U.S.

The airline seems to announce new routes just about every week, so you’ll want to subscribe to our (free!) newsletter to hear about Breeze’s ever-growing network. And sometime this year, we hope to see Breeze announce its first international destination.

Finally, Breeze operates a customer-friendly model of allowing ticket changes and cancellations up to 15 minutes before departure. The fees are on par with competing airlines, too, many of which sell basic economy tickets suitable for travelers who want to save as much money as possible.

  • Five New Cities: Breeze announces services to Dallas Fort Worth, Bangor, Orlando, Lancaster, and Lansing, expanding route network to 56 cities.

Premium leisure airline Breeze Airways is launching the first new airline loyalty program in the US in years. The airline has confirmed a partnership with Barclays for a cobranded credit card to earn additional points, alongside announcing the next five destinations in its route network.

Easy Breezy Rewards

Less than three years after launching scheduled operations, Breeze is rolling out a rewards program and accompanying cobranded credit card. The new loyalty program builds on the existing BreezePoints accounts passengers create when booking tickets, which are now being folded into the Breezy Rewards umbrella. Members can earn BreezePoints for all Breeze purchases and purchases with the card, which are to be redeemed on flights at a fixed rate.

Love learning about points and miles? Read more of our loyalty news and guides here .

The points will always have a minimum cash value of 1 cent. Speaking to Simple Flying about the launch, Breeze's Chief Commercial Officer Lukas Johnson confirmed there will be additional ways to redeem points at a higher value later in the year, but there is a distinct emphasis on providing customers with a fixed rate of redemption as other US airlines have devalued the value of their air miles. David Neeleman, Founder and CEO of Breeze Airways, highlighted how strong of a presence the carrier has developed since launching in 2021:

“We’ve expanded rapidly since we took to the skies in May 2021. Today, we announced five more cities, so we now offer affordable flights from 56 cities across the US and are the largest carrier in terms of destinations served in 11 of those markets.
“Combined with Barclays’ trusted track record with major travel brands, I’m confident the Breeze Easy Visa will be THE airline card of choice for Breeze guests and frequent travelers.”

The frequent flyer program will also be a portal to manage standard Breeze benefits such as no change or cancel fees, booking and flight management tools, and Free Family seating.

Earn points faster

Breeze revealed the Breeze Easy Visa Signature credit card to coincide with its loyalty announcement. The card offers up to 10X BreezePoints for Breeze purchases, including airfare and trip add-ons, such as premium seating, additional checked bags, and inflight snacks and beverages. Cardholders will also be provided complimentary inflight WiFi in Breeze's Airbus A220 aircraft fleet. The airline is phasing out its non-Airbus aircraft from commercial service by the end of this year.

Breeze Airways Plans To Operate Its 1st International Flights This Year

I caught up with the carrier's Chief Commercial Officer, Lukas Johnson.

Additional benefits include Priority Boarding for cardmembers and their travel companions on all Breeze flights and an introductory sign-up of 50,000 BreezePoints after spending $2,000 in the first 90 days of account opening.

Users earn double points on Breeze purchases, once when booked and again when flown. Purchases at grocery stores and restaurants earn 2x points, while all other purchases earn 1 point each. Neeleman believes the new card exemplifies the brand's tagline of "Seriously Nice":

"By doubling the BreezePoints earned for all Breeze purchases, we can confidently say the Breeze Easy Visa makes buying and flying with Breeze 'Twice as Nice!"

The card will be offered by Barclays, which already provides more than 20 cobranded credit cards, including ones offered by JetBlue , American Airlines, and Frontier. Denny Nealon, CEO of Barclays US Consumer Bank, noted how the partnership will benefit consumers:

“Barclays is committed to being the premier choice for America’s best brands, bringing unique value to their loyal customers. Breeze Airways is unlocking affordable, elevated air travel to so many underserved markets and Barclays is thrilled to help Breeze Easy Visa cardmembers earn rewards for travel and more.”

The card comes with an $89 annual fee, which can be offset by a 7,500 Anniversary Bonus BreezePoints after reaching $10,000 in spending each year.

Five new cities

In addition to unveiling its loyal overhaul, the airline announced services to five new cities and new routes from nine existing cities. An interesting addition to the network is Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) in Texas. A relatively large airport for Breeze and its point-to-point model, Breeze will serve DFW from its base in Provo, Utah, beginning June 7th.

New Uniforms and New Bern: Breeze Airways Announces 50th Destination

The airline will begin service to Coastal Carolina Regional Airport in May as it reveals new uniforms and inflight WiFi options.

Bangor International Airport (BGR) in Maine will receive three new Florida routes this October with links to Tampa, Orlando, and Fort Myers. Beginning in October, Orlando will also serve as the base for flights to Lancaster Airport (LNS) in Pennsylvania and Lansing, Michigan's Capital Region International Airport (LAN).

The carrier will also introduce an intra-Florida route from Tampa to Pensacola (PNS) on June 28th. With the addition of the new destinations, Breeze now offers flights from 56 cities across 29 states.

Low-cost airline launches latest discount promotions at CT airports

Low-cost air carrier Breeze Airways Tuesday launched another in a long string of base fare discount promotions, this time targeting roundtrip bookings throughout its network.

The 50%-off promotion on base fares is offered now through the end of Thursday for certain travel periods from Sept. 18 through May 13, 2025. When flight are booked either on the Breeze app or at flybreeze.com , the promotion code “BIGDEAL” must be used.

Breeze has served Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks since the start-up airline began flying in May, 2021. Three weeks ago, Breeze announced it also will launch service from Tweed New Haven Airport i n December and expects to ramp up to 10 nonstop destinations by early spring.

There are travel date restrictions on Breeze’s latest promotion. Holiday travel periods from Nov. 21 to Nov. 27, Nov. 29 to Dec. 2, Dec. 20 to Dec. 24, and Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 are excluded. In addition, the late winter and spring break period from Feb. 5 to April 27 do not qualify for the discount promotion.

Breeze Airways expands to second CT airport. It’s ramping up competition for travelers.

There are other restrictions. The promotion, for example, does not apply to group bookings. The airline also notes that other restrictions may apply.

Base fares can increase depending on travel options chosen by passengers booking flights. Breeze offers both bundled and a la carte plans that cover such options as checked bags and priority seating.

Three Years Later, Breeze Continues to Rise

While growing in pittsburgh, start-up forecasts first profitable year.

By Evan Dougherty

Published May 6, 2024

Read Time: 3 mins

On Friday morning, passengers on Breeze Airways Flight 546 enjoyed the carrier’s first nonstop flight from Pittsburgh to San Diego.

The new route is the latest add by Breeze at Pittsburgh International Airport; San Diego is Breeze’s second West Coast destination (joining Los Angeles) and 12th city overall flown from Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh-San Diego also began shortly after Breeze, nearing its fourth year of operations, announced it had recorded its first monthly profit in March, marking a breakthrough milestone for the rapidly growing low-cost start-up.

Breeze also revealed that in the first quarter of 2024, its unit revenue, a key financial metric for airlines, increased 30 percent year-over-year. In the month of March alone, Breeze generated more revenue from scheduled service than the entirety of the first quarter of 2023, according to the airline.

Breeze also expects 2024 to be its first profitable year overall, founder and CEO David Neeleman said earlier this year .

“This milestone is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and pure grit of the more than 1,800 team members who, despite a multitude of challenges and setbacks, persevered to build something truly impactful,” Neeleman said. “Starting an airline is not for the faint of heart but we have remained true to our purpose – to give millions of travelers in underserved markets access to efficient and affordable air travel.”

Creating a new airline

Founded in 2019 by longtime airline entrepreneur Neeleman, Breeze commenced scheduled flight operations in May 2021.

The Salt Lake City-based carrier is the latest of Neeleman’s many airline ventures, which include Morris Air (later acquired by Southwest Airlines in 1993), WestJet, JetBlue and Azul Brazilian Airlines.

Breeze’s strategy is to connect underserved markets with low-cost service while also providing an elevated onboard service to its customers. Rather than flowing customers through hubs, Breeze follows a “point-to-point” model of providing nonstop service between cities at a competitive price, similar to other low-cost airlines.

When it commenced operations in 2021, Breeze’s network consisted of 16 total cities. As of April 2024, Breeze has grown to serve 56 cities across 29 states with more than 170 nonstop seasonal and year-round routes. It has expanded its reach nationwide, including the addition of transcontinental routes, and is even eyeing a future serving international destinations .

Pittsburgh was among those first 16 Breeze markets. The carrier started service at PIT in July 2021, flying to four markets: Charleston, South Carolina; Hartford, Connecticut; Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Providence, Rhode Island.

In a span of four years, Breeze has quickly added cities that previously were unserved while also providing an additional choice in markets popular with Pittsburghers.

Along with Charleston, Hartford, Norfolk and Providence, Breeze today serves major Florida markets including Fort Myers, Jacksonville and Tampa; West Coast cities including Los Angeles and San Diego; previously unserved leisure destinations in New Orleans and Portland, Maine; and is one of three carriers serving Raleigh-Durham.

Breeze’s fleet has also evolved quickly in three short years. Earlier this year, Breeze announced it would transition all scheduled service to its growing fleet of brand-new Airbus A220-300 aircraft by fall 2024, replacing the fleet of smaller Embraer E190 and E195 aircraft it initially began operations with.

In February, Breeze upped its A220 commitments with Airbus to 90 total aircraft and expects to eventually be one of the top three carriers of the type worldwide .

Breeze’s A220s—which seat 137 passengers—provide additional capacity throughout its network, burn less fuel, fly quieter and have longer range, opening up more route possibilities for the airline.

With its A220s, Breeze has also introduced its “Breeze Ascent” first-class style seating, in-seat charging ports for personal devices and in-flight WiFi for in-flight connectivity access.

Amid its enhancements, Breeze has garnered the highest Net Promoter Score in the airline industry and scored a top five “Best U.S. Airline” ranking in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards for two consecutive years, according to the airline.

This Adults-only South Pacific Resort Has a Nightly Bat Flight, a Secret Beach Hike, and Only 11 Villas

Samoa’s boutique and luxury Seabreeze Resort blends pampering with South Pacific culture and seaside adventures. Here’s what it’s like inside.

Stephanie Vermillion is a travel journalist and photographer covering culture and adventure for Travel + Leisure Outside, and more.

Food and Drink

Activities and experiences, accessibility and sustainability, how to get the most value out of your stay.

Stephanie Vermillion/Travel + Leisure

“Hurry, let’s get to dinner,” I called to my husband, Frank, who’d yet to leave our plunge pool despite the dwindling daylight. I’m rarely one to push for an early bird special but at the Seabreeze Resort in Samoa, I made sunset seating mandatory. My motive: the nightly migration of megabats, best viewed from the resort’s al fresco dining room.

Like clockwork, each evening, up to hundreds of these fruit-eating flying foxes, which can reach up to five feet in wingspan, leave the mainland palms for their tiny offshore island habitats, which conveniently dot the coast just beyond the resort. As I learned from my string of bat flight nights, the furthest-front table at the Waterfront Restaurant & Bar is the best seat in the house — hence my daily race to snag it.

While the bat flight became a highlight during my March 2024 stay at Seabreeze Resort, it wasn’t even on my radar when I’d first booked our stay. My husband and I visited for a tropical island getaway to break up our rigorous New Zealand mountain itinerary . We sought a place with colorful sea life, rich culture, and minimal crowds.

Stephanie Vermillion/Travel + Leisure

The South Pacific island nation Samoa (not to be confused with the separate American Samoa), an archipelago with two main inhabited islands, delivered on all accounts. Even better: The nation’s predominant tourist island, Upolu, is just a four-hour flight from Auckland .

Of Upolu’s myriad accommodation options, from thatch-roof seaside huts known as fales to higher-end hotels, we picked boutique and adults-only Seabreeze Resort for its intimacy, scenic digs, and onsite attractions. Its owners, Wendy and Chris Booth, who grew up in England and Australia (respectively), fell in love with the country during their many visits. They turned this stretch of coastline — aptly named Paradise Cove — into a 12-villa oasis, where all rooms overlook an Edenic masterpiece of palms, tiny islands, and the lapping sea.

We’d snagged the Lagoon View suite, a hill-perched villa with an ocean-view balcony and porch, and our favorite hang, the plunge pool. Those palm-shaded soaks were the perfect respite after each day of adventure in the sticky Samoan heat — but this day’s dip ended up a touch delayed due to intel we’d gathered from the local poolside barkeeper, Manu, that afternoon.

We were munching on poke, nearing a lull in our rugby discussion, when Manu asked, “Have you been to Vavau?”

Frank looked to me, the trip planner, for confirmation. We’d crossed off numerous Upolu highlights, but this tip was new to me.

“Wait, what’s Vavau ?”

Vavau, it turned out, was a beach we could hike to straight from the resort. It’s his favorite beach on the island, yet few tourists know it exists unless they stay at Seabreeze.

He pointed us in the trail’s direction. Frank and I decided to make an afternoon of it. We’d already spent the morning snorkeling atop purply pink starfish in the resort’s private cove; why not add a “secret” beach to round out the day?

It was a toasty 20-minute jaunt from the property to Vavau, but the beauty that awaited — the kind of paradise that had us recounting "The Beach" scenes while cooling off in a secluded teal lagoon — was worth every bead of sweat.

The temperature hadn’t dropped by the time we made the return hike, hence the extra-long plunge-pool soak. Yet somehow, we cobbled together outfits and arrived in time for our usual spot before sunset. Like every one before, this dinner-with-a-show left me slack-jawed and determined to race back to the front table the next night.

Seabreeze Resort

  • The resort lets the South Pacific nature do the talking with subdued earth hues, thatch roofs, and decorative touches of Samoan culture, such as wood carvings.
  • Each room overlooks the ocean from a private patio, spacious deck, or rejuvenating plunge pool.
  • Every Friday, guests enjoy a free cultural afternoon, known in Samoa as fiafia, with song and dance, basket weaving, and the ancient ava ceremony, during which attendees share juice from the dried kava plant.
  • The open-air Waterfront Restaurant & Bar serves fresh breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks made from local ingredients, while the Poolside Bar offers lunch cuisine and cocktails.
  • The resort is a 90-minute drive from Faleolo International Airport but close to many southeastern highlights, including the famed To Sua Ocean Trench.

While room amenities vary, one guarantee for every stay is an ocean view. The horseshoe-shaped resort congregates around its private lagoon; each room, plus the balconies and plunge pools, overlooks this tranquil shoreline. Other property-wide amenities include air conditioning, in-room safes, coffee makers, spacious bathrooms, king beds, fridges, smart TVs, bathrobes, and slippers.

breeze airways travel and leisure

The Ocean View Villas (from $345 per night) are the most affordable options, lying behind the main infinity pool with thatch-roof decks and lounging hammocks. The more secluded Beachfront Villas (from $480 per night) are a step up, perched directly above the sand, with 180-degree-view sundecks. Next up is the Lagoon View Spa Pool View (from $550 per night). This spacious stay includes a private balcony just steps from the bed and a patio area with a plunge pool, lounge furniture, and an outdoor shower. The crème de la crème of Seabreeze Resort stays, the Honeymoon Point Villa ($607 per night), sits atop the resort’s furthest cliff, with a private ocean-view plunge pool,  furnished deck, and gated courtyard.

Expect a blend of coastal fare with Western staples at the Seabreeze Resort’s Waterfront Restaurant & Bar. It’s the central dining hub — and a scenic one — with open walls for floor-to-ceiling lagoon vistas and a welcome breeze during toasty mornings and afternoons.

The menu offers locally caught fish, steak, pasta, and burgers; as a pescatarian, I alternated between the chargrilled fish of the day and the chef’s secret Indian curry recipe — an unexpected and spicy treat. On Fridays, traditional Samoan bites follow the fiafia night, including palusami, a cooked blend of taro leaves, coconut milk, and onions.

Come Saturday and Sunday for wood-fired pizza topped with inventive Samoan twists like tiger prawns and fresh local chili. Breakfast is simple: fresh juices, honey-drizzled yogurt and muesli, and eggs. The resort bars, located at the pool and main restaurant, serve wines from Australia and New Zealand, imported beers, and a host of cocktails, including the Seabreeze’s signature Happy Coconuts — a secret recipe that doesn’t just taste like a coconut, it’s served in one.

Travelers can enjoy a vacation’s worth of adventures without leaving Seabreeze Resort’s 15-mile radius. It’s within 30 minutes driving of highlights like Lalomanu Beach, where a collection of pastel thatch-roof fales, rentable for the day on the powdery south Upolu shores, provide a basecamp for beachcombing and snorkeling along this world-renowned strip of sand. To Sua Ocean Trench, an enormous sinkhole turned cerulean swimming hole reached via rung-ladder, is less than two miles from the resort. The clifftop coastal walk, a 20-minute stroll above one of Samoa’s most churning shorelines, is just 20 minutes beyond that.

The Seabreeze Resort may be within arm’s reach of numerous prime attractions, but you can enjoy many Samoan adventures onsite. The resort’s private lagoon is packed with colorful fish and purply pink starfish — best viewed via snorkel or glass-bottom kayak; both are rentable from the poolside bar. Additionally, the trail to Vavau Beach lets you hit two sandy shores in one day, all without a car.

That said, we did rent a car for itinerary flexibility. The resort helps guests without cars coordinate sightseeing tours, transit, and ocean outings like snorkeling, fishing, and scuba diving. (Most attractions in Samoa are located on private land and require an admittance fee collected by the landowner. Bring local cash — Samoan tala — with you.)

Samoa is a religious country, so the island’s tourist attractions largely shut down on Sundays. Knowing this, my husband and I booked a couples massage at the Seabreeze Resort’s Spa for the Sunday of our stay. It was the kind of relaxation you pray will never end. With open windows, we could hear the crashing waves as the masseuses kneaded out our tangles of knots. The spa incorporates Samoan herbs into its massage oils and local plant ingredients for facials.

The resort sources its food from the local communities and supports several projects in the local village, including celebrations for the annual children’s celebration of the White Sunday holiday. The resort has an almost entirely Samoan team, with 32 local employees from housekeeping to accounting; many have stayed at the property for over a decade. It earned a silver sustainability certification from the sustainable lodging booking platform ETIC Hotels . It is not ADA-compliant or wheelchair accessible.

Seabreeze Resort is roughly a 90-minute drive from Faleolo International Airport, the main transit hub. We rented a car from the airport; driving here is easy, particularly as most attractions are within an hour, but remember that Samoans drive on the left side of the road.

If you don’t rent a car, Seabreeze Resort offers airport pickups — including free pickups and drop-offs for those staying for a minimum of five nights. The property, situated on a paradisiacal private cove on the far southeast corner of Upolu island, is within 30 minutes of major attractions and an hour and 15 minutes from the capital city of Apia.

Several perks come with booking directly, like return airport transfers, complimentary snorkel and kayak equipment use, breakfast, a special mini bar treat, and a food platter for arrivals after 9 p.m. and before 7 a.m. If you’re planning a spa day, pre-book your treatment for an additional discount. Other special plus-ups, such as cake or Champagne, can be arranged for birthdays, anniversaries, and honeymoons.
