Chablis Wine Routes
The Chablis vineyard is in the most northern part of the Burgundy region. Less than two hours by car from the Paris region, it is the perfect opportunity for Parisian wine lovers to come and taste the Chablis vintages directly at their producers. At the gates of Auxerre, you will have the opportunity to come and meet winemakers with a unique know-how in Burgundy.
The steps of our Chablis Wine Route :
Angst Vineyard
- Domaine L&C Poitou
Jean-Marc Brocard
- La Cave du Maître de Poste
Here, the king grape variety, Chardonnay, composes the wines divided into four appellations : Petit-Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru and Chablis Grand Cru. It should be noted that, for its size, it is one of the vineyards that has the least amount of controlled appellation. Chablis is also a special vineyard because it produces only dry white wines.
The Chablis winemakers will explain to you what makes this vineyard unique. Set off on the Chablis Wine Route with cellar visits, wine tastings or abbey discoveries.
Domains to visit in Chablis
At Angst Vineyard, Céline and Antoine welcome you as if you were used to it. Discover this timeless estate located on the former Cistercian Abbey, a listed monument. After a visit of the premises, the cellar, the estate and the wine storehouses, you will have the opportunity to discover a wide range of wines made by the couple while respecting nature.
On the schedule: three of the four Chablis appellations, or a Crémant and a Burgundy rosé. With Céline, you'll be amazed by the vineyards of Chablis and the methods of sustainable viticulture. History and architecture enthusiasts will be tempted by the optional visit of the Pontigny Abbey, which Céline knows well.
Domaine L&C Poitout
Second step: we continue towards the South of Burgundy arriving in Chablis. In the heart of the small town that gives its name to the appellation, we find Louis and Catherine at the Domaine L&C Poitout. The owners give their initials to the name of their estate and offer a friendly visit and wine tasting.
Catherine tells you, around a glass, the history of the Chablis vineyard and its Wine Route, its winemakers and its unique terroirs. You will also discover how it is possible in a vineyard to preserve and develop the present fauna and flora.
By continuing to go around Auxerre from the east, we arrive at Jean-Marc Brocard's house. This institution of the region is the unmissable part of your Wine Tour of Chablis. On the estate, the winegrower cultivates nearly 80 hectares which he runs in organic farming: this will be the opportunity to discover the other side of the story of organic winemaking.
A few kilometres from Chablis, you can taste, with the sommelier's expert advice, the wines of the four appellations produced in the Burgundy vineyards. Would you prefer a visit or a tasting? You will have the choice to discover the cellars of the estate, or to taste 3 or 5 wines: there will be something for everyone!
La cave du maître de poste
Last step of our Wine Tour of Chablis: Saint-Bris-le-Vineux. In the heart of this small village of just over 1,000 inhabitants are the vineyards of the Domaine du Maître de Poste. South of Auxerre, Romain cultivates his few hectares of vines in the purest Chablis tradition: yield control and healthy vine treatment.
The winegrower welcomes you, simply, in a magnificent old coaching inn renovated into a wine storehouse and cellar. You will be able to enjoy the experience of a winegrower face to face with this passionate winegrower who will explain to you how he fell in love with each parcel that makes up his vineyard.

A One Day Guided Wine Tour - Discovering Chablis
Mecca for lovers of dry white wine, this northernmost region of Burgundy is famous for the flinty crisp white wines coming from slopes around the town of Chablis. Brendan has friends amongst dozens of small family producers, as well as privileged access to the most prestigious Domaines. Just one day in his company, and your appreciation of this wine will change forever.
09h30 - Brendan picks you up from your hotel in a comfortable vehicle, and drives you up into the Grand Cru vineyards to admire the panoramic view over the town of Chablis and its vineyards. A perfect spot to learn about the ancient monastic origins of these vines and a good spot to get to grips with the term “terroir” – the essence of Burgundian wines.
10h30 - A private visit to a family run winery. After introductions you will be given a guided tour of the winery in the company of a family member and you will be most welcome to ask questions, Brendan acting as interpreter if needed.
11h00 - The moment you’ve been waiting for… amongst the barrels and vats, a collection of bottles of the family’s finest Chablis, including 1er and Grand Cru, ready for tasting. Brendan will assist with technique for novice tasters.
12h00 - Back in the town of Chablis, there's a chance for a bit of shopping to pick up some bread and cheese for a picnic lunch, weather permitting. Otherwise, there'll be plenty of choice for a delicious lunch in the local bistros, wine bars or gourmet restaurants.
14h00 - Rendezvous with Brendan for a short drive into a nearby vineyard-covered valley. Here, in a walled medieval village, we meet another delightful family of vignerons. This is the village of St Bris, recently celebrated for being awarded its own appellation for the delicious sauvignon grown here. Wine has been produced in this vineyard for centuries and we go underground to taste wines in the family’s 700 year old cellars.
15h30 - We emerge, blinking, back into the family courtyard. A short stroll amongst the old houses then a quick drive into the cavernous labyrinthine quarry at Bailly, famous for its stone and, more recently, its “methode champenoise” Cremant de Bourgogne. Quick tasting at its enormous bar, hewn from the rock.
16h30 - Back above ground and a scenic drive along the Yonne River, past the village of Vincelottes and its monastic wine warehouses, through the pinot noir producing village of Irancy, and back into the sea of vineyards that surround Chablis.
17h30 - Return, exhausted but culturally enriched, to your hotel.

Nick, can’t emphasise enough how much we enjoyed our time with you in France! Your knowledge of wine is so expansive. Your ability to tailor the trip to our interests was very customer oriented. You planned and scheduled tastings to exclusive vineyards as well as stopping at unknown wineries in a small village to secure a tasting while driving down the road. Your vast familiarity with the lay of the land, so to speak, as we visited Regional to Grand Cru plots was so appreciated. Your lunch and dinner reservations were one of the highlights of our trip! This was our second time touring with you and we look forward to another visit as you always provide new adventures! Thanks so much,
“Nick’s knowledge of the Burgundy region, its history and its wine, is unsurpassed. It is a pleasure to travel with a guide who makes everything so easy and so special. From the close-up experience of the Clos de Vougeot and the famous Chevaliers de Tastevin to the cellars of Drouhin, Nick’s personable manner, relationships and experience in the wine trade made our trip outstanding.”
What To Expect On Our French Wine Tours
These unique French wine tours are the fruit of over 20 years spent working in both tourism and the wine trade here in France. It is this extensive experience and knowledge which enables us to put together and manage both ready-made and customized French wine tours in Burgundy, Loire as well as Sancerre and the Beaujolais. Our aim is to share with you our deep passion for France and its extraordinary wines, great cuisine, stunning countryside and rich history. Regardless of the French wine tour you decide on, we will liaise directly with you in order to take into account your specific requirements. First and foremost we believe that you should have fun on your wine tour, as after all, you are very likely to be on vacation ! But we also understand that whether you are booking a Chablis, Beaune, Sancerre, or Beaujolais wine tour with us, you will have a desire to learn about French wines and wine-making. Over the course of many years, we have built some very special relationships with the local wine-growers and during the course of your stay, they will delight in sharing their knowledge, whether it is in the cellar discussing the climatic effects on the different vintages or their philosophy on oak aging, or in the vines learning about vineyards techniques such as pruning practices and yield management, or their treatments to protect the vines from different predators. Furthermore, you will also learn a lot more about the fascinating and vast topic of organic, biodynamic and natural wines. Although these French wine tours are designed for serious wine-lovers, we do understand that some groups enjoy a few less visits to wineries and more time enjoying the sights such as historical monuments, markets, and even the odd afternoon spent shopping ! We therefore offer a more « relaxed » version of each trip and you just have to choose from the different options proposed. Our long experience of the regions, and our love of great food enables us to take you to some fantastic places for lunch where you can delight in the great local cuisine, wines and atmosphere. From rustic French bistros to more sophisticated restaurants, your trip with us will be a gastronomic feast ! We work on a « first-come, first served » basis. We remain flexible regarding start dates especially if you have other projects in France. We look forward to you joining us on one of our French wine tours . Santé! The Grapes & Corks Team

Wines made from hybrid grape varieties - PART 1
Hybrids can combine the excellent qualities of the European vine Vitis vinifera with the disease and insect resistance of the wild American species and they often give wines with variable but more subtle flavours than the American vines.

The Wine of Pouilly Fumé
In July of 2017 Pouilly celebrated 80 years since the official AOC classification of its 2 wines, the Pouilly Fumé and the Pouilly-sur-Loire. Some 160 wine growers cultivate 1350 ha (3250 acres) of Sauvignon blanc for the Pouilly Fumé and only 30 ha (75 acres) of Chasselas for the AOC Pouilly-sur-Loire, producing two dry white wines which take advantage of the priviliged geographic position of the vineyards which lie exactly half way along France’s longest river, the Loire
The rebirth of the wines of Vézelay
The site of Vézelay in northern Burgundy welcomes around a million visitors a year and if the "eternel hill" enjoys a worldwide reputation due to its classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its wines remain a lot less well known.
