Unique Cruises Across the Pacific

Experience a journey like no other on a transpacific cruise with Celebrity Cruises. Enjoy relaxing days at sea with our 16- and 17-night cruises as we make our way to some of the most incredible destinations on both sides of the Pacific Ocean. Set sail from either lush Honolulu or vibrant Sydney, Australia, on a northbound or southbound Pacific crossing.

Whichever itinerary you choose, you’ll be astonished by the shimmering colors and striking landscapes you’ll visit. Fiji is rich with glossy palms and limpid coral lagoons, with a dazzling array of life under the water. In French Polynesia, you’ll be in awe of the jagged mountains, lush rainforest, and the astonishing aquamarine shade of the sea. New Zealand’s dreamy Bay of Islands is a subtropical landscape dotted with rocky islands that offer superb wildlife watching, from whales and dolphins to myriad species of seabirds.

Featured Highlights

Natural beauty.

Set sail across the Pacific and experience the alluring beauty that awaits. From the tumbling waterfalls of Hawaii to the aquamarine lagoons of Tahiti and the buzzing surf beaches of Australia, you’ll experience an incredible adventure. On sea days, enjoy unforgettable views of the Pacific Ocean, from peach sunrises to fiery sunsets. Feel the soft sea breezes and commune with the deep blue ocean while looking out for marine life as you absorb the sheer scale of this epic ocean crossing.

Vibrant Culture

Take your sense of wonder to new heights as you encounter the incredible cultures you’ll experience on a transpacific cruise. Discover Maori traditions in New Zealand and paddle a Waka Taua, a Maori war canoe. Admire the enigmatic marae, ancient places of rituals and worship, in Tahiti. In Fiji, visit a traditional village where you’ll enjoy a song and dance performance and the Yaqona ceremony, an ancient rite that involves sharing the traditional kava drink with your hosts.

Extraordinary Wildlife

Everywhere on your transpacific itinerary is a wonderful place to spot wildlife. New Zealand’s Bay of Islands is home to nine species of dolphin, while in Fiji, the dazzling rainbow shades of the coral and tropical fish have to be seen to be believed. A sunset sail on Maui is a great chance to spot spinner dolphins. The islands of French Polynesia are like a vast aquarium, and you could spot sea turtles gliding through the blue or manta rays flipping across the surface like pancakes.

Top Transpacific FAQs

What is a transpacific cruise like?

A transpacific cruise is a journey between continents. Blissful days at sea as you cross the balmy Pacific are interspersed with stops at beautiful islands, from the jewel-like archipelago of French Polynesia to the desert island beauty of Fiji and Samoa. Some itineraries also call at ports on New Zealand’s North Island.

When the ship is making longer sea passages, you’ll enjoy the gentle rhythm of life on board. Sunbathe by the pool, join a class in the gym, indulge in a spa treatment, and sip cocktails as you gaze at a glorious tropical sunset. If you like to keep busy, our ships are filled with exciting activities, from quizzes to wine-tasting sessions. After dark, you’ll be treated to glittering entertainment in the theater, with live music all over the ship.

When’s the best time to cruise?

The best time to take a transpacific cruise is April and October. This is the drier season in the Pacific, with lower humidity and less rainfall. The weather should be fine for enjoying the sea passages as well as the island destinations en route.

How long are transpacific cruises?

Our transpacific cruises range from 16 to 19 nights and sail between Honolulu, Hawaii and Sydney, Australia.

Are there any visa or entry requirements for the countries visited?

It’s your responsibility to make sure you have any necessary visas for the countries you will visit. You will need a passport for a transpacific cruise. Check your government’s information for each country on your itinerary. For U.S. citizens to visit Australia, for example, either a visa or an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) is mandatory. The same applies to New Zealand.

U.S. citizens do not require a visa for entry to French Polynesia, Samoa, Vanuatu, or Fiji, but it’s important to check the latest advisory before departing on your cruise. If you do not hold a U.S. passport, check the website of your government to see up-to-date entry requirements for each destination.

What types of onboard amenities and activities are available during the cruise?

Celebrity’s contemporary ships are packed with exciting amenities and activities. You’ll find a sparkling pool and bubbling hot tubs, as well as ample sunbathing space on deck. All of our ships have a state-of-the-art fitness center and spa.

If you’re sailing on Celebrity Solstice, you can enjoy the relaxing Lawn Club, where a game of croquet or boules on the sweet-smelling grass beckons. On Celebrity Edge , sink into a sofa with a coffee or your favorite cocktail on the Magic Carpet, a tennis court-sized platform suspended from the side of the ship with uninterrupted ocean views.

You’ll find a wide choice of bars and restaurants on board. Enjoy healthy smoothies at the Spa Café, and made-to-order burgers at the al-fresco Mast Grill. Enjoy French classics at Le Grand Bistro and delectable sushi. Entertainment ranges from mixology classes to dazzling theater shows, comedy, quizzes, and live music.

Elevate your experience to The Retreat and you’ll enjoy accommodation in a sumptuous suite, an exclusive sunbathing deck and lounge, as well as dining in Luminae at The Retreat.

What should I pack?

You’ll be sailing through the tropics on your transpacific cruise, so bring plenty of beachwear, a sun hat, sunglasses, coverups, snorkel gear, and reef-friendly sunblock. Bear in mind that if you’re sailing to, for example, New Zealand in the early spring (October) or the fall (April), you will need something for slightly cooler weather, as well as a light waterproof jacket.

Throughout the ship, casual resort wear, sundresses, shorts, polos, or button-downs are appropriate, paired with sandals, low heels, and loafers. In main and specialty dining, we ask guests to refrain from wearing swimsuits, see-through coverups or robes, bare feet, tank tops, T-shirts, and baseball caps.

Smart Casual attire is required for entry to main dining, specialty dining, and the Celebrity Theatre. Smart Casual means you look comfortable yet tasteful in a dress, skirt, long pants, or jeans with a stylish top or button-down. Shorts and flip-flops are not considered Smart Casual.

Each itinerary features one to two more “formal” nights that we call Evening Chic. Evening Chic means you dress to impress, glamorous and sophisticated in your own way, with a cocktail dress, skirt, slacks, or designer jeans, an elegant dress top, or blazer—some guests even pack a tuxedo or gown for onboard photos.

The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening. If you do not wish to participate in Evening Chic, Smart Casual attire is acceptable for dining and attending the theater.

Where do these cruises depart from?

Our transpacific cruises depart from either Sydney, Australia, or Honolulu, Hawaii.

What are the typical ports of call?

Ports of call on a transpacific cruise might include Auckland and the beautiful Bay of Islands in New Zealand. Depending on the itinerary you’ve chosen, you may have several stops in French Polynesia, including Papeete, Moorea, and Raiatea.

Other itineraries head to Fiji, Vanuatu, and Samoa for exquisite beaches and the rich local culture. Many also include an overnight stay in Honolulu or a day at Kailua Kona. On any of our transpacific itineraries, you’ll have nine or 10 days at sea to enjoy the ship and the tropical sunshine.

Explore the Hawaiian Islands

Four Pacific jewels, as dazzling as they are different.

Hawaiian Islands cruise with more value

Why settle for seeing just one island on a Hawaii resort-based vacation when you can cruise in style and explore multiple island jewels? Sailing with Princess is a far better vacation value, and you’ll visit popular Hawaiian islands —  Oahu ,  Kauai  and the Big Island ( Hilo  and  Kona ) — without all the time-consuming hassle of island hopping by plane. From enriching  Discovery and Animal Planet shore excursions  to our immersive "Aloha Spirit" program onboard, you'll discover each island's unique charm — and fall in love with Hawaii's enchanting beauty.

Oahu (Honolulu)

The most populous of the Hawaiian islands, bustling Oahu  offers attractions for visitors of all ages. Our sailings feature a special late night departure from Oahu, so you can spend a full day seeing the sights, then revel in Honolulu's exciting nightlife. From iconic Waikiki Beach to the enormous Ala Moana Shopping Center to the glorious Iolani Palace and poignant Pearl Harbor memorials, there’s certainly no shortage of things to do in "The Big Pineapple" of Hawaii!

Photo: Iolani Palace, Honolulu, Oahu

Once the favorite playground of Hawaiian royalty, great warrior King Kamehameha chose to make  Maui's  Lahaina his capital after uniting the Hawaiian islands. Explore breathtaking Haleakala National Park that boasts diverse volcanic and rainforest landscapes, plus a 10,000 foot tall dormant volcano. Or sail out onto the scenic waters off Maui’s sun-kissed shores and witness in awe as humpback whales frolic about.

Photo: Humpback whales off the coast of Maui

When it comes to  Kauai , good things come in small packages. Despite being the smallest of the four main islands, Kauai is home to the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" Waimea Canyon, the lush Fern Grotto framed by Wailua River, and so much more. The stunning Na Pali Coast has served as the backdrop for Hollywood blockbusters, such as Jurassic Park and King Kong. With endless emerald landscapes, Kauai truly lives up to its nickname of "The Garden Island".

Photo: Na Pali Coast, Kauai, Hawaii

Nearly twice as big as all of the other Hawaiian islands combined, the Big Island ( Hilo and Kona ) is a paradise of black-sand beaches, tropical rainforests, and even snow-capped peaks at the soaring Mauna Kea summit. Feel the spiritual "mana" on a shore excursion in Waipi'o Valley, once the meeting place for Hawaiian kings and fabled to contain an otherworldly gate. At the famous Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, behold extraordinary lava landscapes and two of the world’s most active volcanoes.

Australia welcomes 62 cruise ships for 2024-2025 summer season

CruiseMapper logo

62 cruise ships are scheduled to visit Australia during the 2024-2025 summer season, a slight decrease from the 70 ships last year. However, the number of port calls is expected to rise by 3%, reaching a total of 1904, which presents significant tourism opportunities for local communities, according to Joel Katz, Managing Director of Cruise Lines International Association Australasia/CLIA Australasia.

Notably, new arrivals this season include Silversea ’s ship Silver Nova , NCL ’s ship Norwegian Sun , and Cunard ’s newest ship Queen Anne , all of which will make their maiden visits in November, December, and February, respectively.

In January, Ponant 's Paspaley Pearl will begin its inaugural season north of Australia before cruising the Kimberley region.

A total of 25 cruise lines/brands will operate in Australian waters between October and April, offering various itineraries:

Azamara Pursuit will arrive in Geraldton in mid-December, continuing to sail along the Great Australian Bight with stops in Albany , Esperance , and Kangaroo Island before heading to New Zealand. The ship will be in Sydney Harbour during the New Year and will return to Australia before departing for Hong Kong in late February. Azamara Onward will also sail in Australian and New Zealand waters from mid-February as part of a world cruise, with both ships making a joint entrance into Sydney Harbour on February 20.

Cunard will celebrate 100 years of sailing to Australia this summer. Queen Elizabeth will arrive in October for a home-porting season from Sydney, featuring the third edition of the ‘Great Australian Culinary Voyage’ and the inaugural ‘Australian Literature Festival at Sea.’ In February, Queen Anne will make her maiden voyage to Australia as part of a world cruise.

Heritage Expeditions, New Zealand’s only family-owned and operated expedition cruise company, will celebrate its 40th anniversary with exclusive voyages to Antarctica aboard the 140-passenger Heritage Adventurer .

Holland America Line ’s Westerdam will embark on a 35-day circumnavigation of Australia, departing Sydney on November 17.

Oceania Cruises ’ Insignia , Regatta , and Nautica will all be present in local waters this summer.

P&O Cruises Australia will undergo a transition as Pacific Adventure and Pacific Encounter join the Carnival fleet in March.

Princess Cruises ’ Crown Princess is set to embark on its inaugural 113-night world voyage from Sydney in June.

Viking 's Viking Venus will offer a 31-night ‘Grand Australia Circumnavigation’ departing from Sydney on January 20.

Australian Navy rehearses loading NSM onto Anzac frigates

Kongsberg recently provided training for the royal australian navy (ran) on how to load naval strike missiles (nsm) onto its anzac-class frigates, as the missile begins replacing the harpoon anti-ship missile in australia..

Gordon Arthur 07 Sep 2024

The loading rehearsal with an inert missile occurred at the Australian Marine Complex in Henderson, Western Australia on 5 September.

HMAS Ballarat sailors, as well as personnel from Thales Explosive Ordnance Services, received instruction on the correct procedures for dockside handling and ship loading of the NSM and associated Launcher Missile Modules (LMM).

“The loading and handling training validates the capability to safely handle and load Naval Strike Missile onto the [Anzac] fast frigate helicopter platform.” Australia Defence Forces

The NSM is replacing Harpoon missiles on Australian Anzac -class frigates and Hobart -class destroyers under Project Sea 1300 Phase 1, plus it will equip Hunter -class frigates. HMAS Ballarat is the sixth of eight Anzac -class frigates, but it is unclear whether it is the first to be armed with the NSM.

This training event was thus an important part of the wider effort to roll out and integrate the NSM onto the RAN’s surface combatant fleet, as crews learn how to proficiently and safely deploy these missiles under operational conditions. Each frigate will boast two quad-pack launchers.

Australian Navy rehearses loading NSM onto Anzac frigates

John Fry, General Manager of Kongsberg Defence Australia, had recently told Naval News , “The program is progressing well. An NSM capability will be introduced into RAN service by the end of 2024 as planned.” He added, “In delivering the NSM capability to navy, Kongsberg has contracted Australian companies to manufacture components for ship-installed equipment and the launcher components which are part of the NSM all-up round.”

For example, via a contract announced last September, Australian firm Marand began producing structural launcher frames and rails for the LMM. Earlier, in February 2023, Marand had been awarded a contract for launcher ramp systems. Last October, Marand successfully passed a factory acceptance test for production of the first-of-type launcher ramp. Fry commented at the time, “We’ll manufacture almost all the launcher ramp systems in Australia, demonstrating Kongsberg’s commitment to maximizing local content and generating domestic manufacturing capability.”

Incidentally, marking an important milestone in Australia’s programme, the destroyer HMAS Sydney fired an NSM for the first time on 18 July during RIMPAC 2024 . This occurred off the coast of Oahu in Hawaii.

The NSM is a key missile for the Australian Navy, as illustrated by Kongsberg Defence Australia establishing a new missile production facility in the New South Wales city of Newcastle. Construction of Kongsberg’s commercially owned, commercially operated facility is scheduled to commence before year’s end, benefitting from up to A$850 million (US$578 million) in government funding.

The factory will produce and service both NSMs and Joint Strike Missiles (JSM), the first such plant outside Norway to do so. A Kongsberg Defence Australia spokesperson told Naval News : “It’ll take approximately 18 months to build, and we expect the factory to be complete in Q2 2026 .” Subsequently, it will undergo a commissioning and certification process, with “the commencement of missile manufacturing from 2027, ramping up the capability for full-rate production by the end of 2028”. Kongsberg’s spokesperson added, “The facility is being established with the Australian Defence Force as the priority customer, but there’s expected to be capacity to support regional customers in the future.”

On 5 September, the same day as the NSM loading exercise, Australia announced it would procure Kongsberg’s JSM from 2025 under a fast-tracked contract worth A$142 million. Fry noted, “JSM is an air-launched fifth-generation cruise missile designed to defeat highly protected maritime and land targets. It was designed specifically to be carried in the internal weapon bays of the F-35A, enabling the aircraft to maintain its range and stealth characteristics.”

Significantly, Kongsberg has been admitted as a third strategic partner under Australia’s Guided Weapons Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Enterp rise too. GWEO is the agency charged with expanding Australia’s sovereign weapons production capacity, so this gives Kongsberg a seat at the table alongside Lockheed Martin Australia and Raytheon Australia as a strategic partner.

“This is a significant military and industrial capability that’s being delivered to Australia. Strategic partnership provides a platform for active engagement and ongoing collaboration for the manufacture and maintenance of these weapons, increased supply chain involvement, and the ongoing development and upgrade of these capabilities.” Kongsberg Defence Australia

The NSM is one of four weapons prioritized by GWEO for domestic production, the others being the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS), Evolved SeaSparrow Missile (ESSM) and 155mm artillery ammunition.
