About Peter Kay
Last Updated: 14th November 2022
Peter Kay is an English actor, comedy writer and stand-up comedian. He has written, produced and acted in several television and film projects, and authored three books.
Born and brought up in Bolton, Kay studied media performance at the University of Salford. He began working part-time as a stand-up comedian, winning the North West Comedian of the Year award. In 1997 he won Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny contest and the following year was nominated for a Perrier Award for his show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. With his public profile raised, in 2000 he co-wrote and starred in That Peter Kay Thing for Channel 4. This resulted in a spin-off sitcom, Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights, which ran for two series from 2001 to 2002 and in turn generated another spin-off, Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere, in 2004.
In 2005 he recorded a promotional video in which he mimed to Tony Christie's 1971 hit '(Is This the Way to) Amarillo', which was reissued to raise money for Comic Relief: the song reached number 1 in the UK Singles Chart, becoming that year's best-selling single in the UK.
In 2008 Kay co-wrote and starred in Britain's Got the Pop Factor... and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice, a parody of several British reality television shows. As the series' fictional protagonist Geraldine McQueen, he released the single "The Winner's Song", which reached number 2 in the UK singles chart. His 2010-2011 stand-up comedy tour was officially inaugurated into the Guinness World Records as the most successful ever selling over 1.2 million tickets. He co-wrote and starred in Peter Kay's Car Share, a sitcom screened by the BBC for three series from 2015 to 2018. He also starred in the 2015 BBC sitcom Cradle to Grave.
In 2016 Kay won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Male Comedy Performance, the BAFTA TV Award for Best Scripted Comedy and the National Television Award for Best Comedy for ...Car Share. He also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Salford.
Peter Kay has now confirmed he will be touring arenas starting in December 2022, including a monthly residency at The O2 in London. The tour proved so popular he has now announced dates into 2025!
Tickets are available now for shows in Birmingham, Leeds, London, Manchester and Sheffield! If your date isn't available please sign up for ticket alerts as more tickets are likely to be added to the website.

Peter Kay Live at Manchester AO Arena – times, tour dates, tickets and more
We cannot understate how hyped people are about this... (Contains affiliate links)
Peter Kay will finally make his long-awaited return to the stage this week with a massive UK tour.
The beloved Bolton comedian is set to play a whopping 42 dates here in Manchester , as well as a monthly residency down in London at the O2.
His AO Arena dates begin on Friday 2 December and will run all the way through to 2025 (yes, really).
Peter received widespread praise when he announced his tour and promised to keep ticket prices low .
He said: “It’s good to get back to what I love doing best, stand-up comedy and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now.
“And with the cost of living at an all-time high, ticket prices are starting from £35. The same price they were on my previous tour in 2010. ”
But naturally, after he largely disappeared from public appearances several years ago, his return drove insane demand.
Peter Kay could barely keep up with demand from excited fans ( who briefly broke the internet ) and new dates kept getting added.
If you’re lucky enough to have bagged a ticket , here’s what you need to know.
What are stage times for Peter Kay at AO Arena?
As usual with the AO Arena, doors will open a bit before the show begins, and fans are advised to allow plenty of time to get through security and to find their seats.
The doors to the venue will open around 6.30pm.
Peter Kay’s actual show will start at 8pm prompt.
What dates will Peter Kay play at the AO Arena?

- 20-21 December 2024
- 10-11 January 2025
- 8 February 2025

- 17 May 2025
- 21 June 2025
- 25 July 2025
Can I still get tickets and how much are they?
Ooooh you might struggle if you want to go any time soon.
The demand for Peter Kay’s return was so high that several ticketing platforms crashed and he added tonnes of new dates to try and cater to all his fans.
There are still tickets available for later shows all the way in 2025 if you’re happy to wait that long.
Your best bet for an earlier date is to keep an eye on official resale sites, and be careful that you’re getting a genuine deal.
Tickets start from £35 and go all the way up to £50, £65 and £135 – you can buy yours from See Tickets here .
Seating plan for AO Arena Manchester
According to Ticketmaster, this will be the seating plan for the AO Arena for Peter Kay’s gigs.
It’s a fully seated tour but every block is set to be in use.
Venue security and requirements
The show is strictly for people aged 15+.
The AO Arena has a few strict policies to keep gig-goers safe, so make sure to check entry requirements carefully before you travel.
For example, only one small bag per person is allowed, and bags like backpacks, travel cases and laptop bags are not permitted inside the arena.
All bags are scanned on entry to check for prohibited items like laser pens, flares, projectiles, weapons, drugs and alcohol, and even selfie sticks.

One of the biggest, if not the biggest, popstars in the world right now will be releasing a brand-new album this Friday, and there’s a dedicated listening party happening in Manchester especially for the occasion.
Yes, we’re of course talking about Taylor Swift .
In case you aren’t a Swiftie, or you just generally weren’t aware, Taylor Swift announced back in early February that she would be unleashing her eleventh studio album , titled The Tortured Poets Department , on the world on 19 April.
Just like anything the 34-year-old singer-songwriter does, the surprise announcement of the new album – which is a follow-up to her 2022 critically-acclaimed and GRAMMY award-winning album, Midnights – pretty much broke the internet when it happened, and her dedicated fans have been counting down the days ever since.
Now, after months of eagerly waiting, the big day is finally happening this Friday, and in a bid to properly mark what a massive day it will be, one popular Manchester venue has decided to host a dedicated listening party , so that Swifties can unite under one roof and celebrate the special occasion together.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift)
Fairfield Social Club (FSC) which has recently opened its doors in the heart of Manchester city centre , is inviting fans to “gather with your closest Swifties” and head on down to its Green Quarter venue this Friday for a night that’s “dedicated to Tay Tay and her legacy”.
Not only will you get to hear The Tortured Poets Department in full from start to finish surrounded by dozens of fellow fans, but there’ll also be a bunch of other Swift-themed activities too.
These include a Taylor Swift pub quiz with questions to all about her life and groundbreaking career to test your knowledge, friendship bracelet-making sessions, and just the chance to share the love and swap stories with other Swifties.
If all of that didn’t sound brilliant enough as it is, there’s also set to be a selection of themed cocktails to sip whilst you spend time ruminating on what Taylor meant in the lyrics of her songs only released a few hours prior.
Oh, and the best bit? FSC promises there “won’t be a Scooter Braun in sight” on the night.
- You can now take a university course on Taylor Swift
- Taylor Swift and The 1975’s Matty Healy are reportedly ‘no longer romantically involved’
The Tortured Poets Department Listening Party is taking over Fairfield Social Club this Friday 19 April from 7pm right through until 10pm – with tickets now on sale setting you back just £6 each, and already selling fast.
Grab tickets to the party here .

How to get tickets for Peter Kay’s 2023 tour
New dates have just been added due to unprecedented demand
Peter Kay, the iconic Bolton-born comic, will be performing his first live tour in more than a decade in 2024. The comedian holds the 2010 Guinness Book of World Records for the biggest-selling comedy tour of all time, so you can bet that getting your hands on some tickets this time round is going to be tricky (but worth it).
When the first batch of tickets went live, O2 and Virgin said the sale was ‘by far the highest demand we’ve ever seen for priority tickets in 15 years’ and the O2 priority ticket website crashed as a result. More dates were added to the tour, but for any disappointed fans who couldn’t tickets for any of those either, we’ve got great news. Kay added 11 new dates in 2023-2025, bringing the total number of shows to 121 for the ‘Better Late Than Never’ tour.
These dates span Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham, Sheffield, Manchester, Leeds, London, Dublin, Belfast, Nottingham and Liverpool, so there’s bound to be one vaguely nearly you.
If you’re planning to catch one of Kay’s live shows as he tours the country in 2024, h ere’s everything to know about his return and how to get tickets.

When do new Peter Kay tour tickets go on sale?
Peter Kay has just announced 11 new dates for 2023, 2024 and 2025. Tickets for the latest dates go live on Sunday December 11 2022 at 10am .
How can I get tickets?
Tickets are available on Ticketmaster , See Tickets and the Ticket Factory .
H ow much do tickets cost?
Luckily, Peter Kay understands that times are hard as the cost-of-living crisis continues to squeeze our wallets, which is why he’s said he will be keeping the price of tickets the same as his previous tours: they start from £35.
Why did the last tour get cancelled?
This tour is a comeback after the comedian cancelled a 14-month long stand-up tour back in 2017.
In a statement on Twitter at the time, Kay said: ‘Due to unforeseen family circumstances I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.’
What has he said about the tour?
Kay said: ‘It’s good to get back to what I love doing best, standup comedy, and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now.
‘And with the cost of living at an all-time high, ticket prices are starting from £35. The same price they were on my previous tour in 2010.’
Kay also said that he couldn’t believe that the original tour announcement had made headline news and that he was ‘overwhelmed’ by the reaction from fans. ‘I should only be on the news if I’m dead, not on tour!’ he said.
Is he doing a special residency in London?
Peter Kay will perform a monthly residency at London’s O2 Arena in Greenwich, starting on December 16 and running until November 18 2023. The venue has a capacity of 20,000.
Where are the shows on the tour?
Peter Kay’s tour will start on December 2 2022 at the Manchester AO Arena, and his run will end on August 11 2023 at the Utilita Arena Sheffield. There will then be five further dates across 2025. The tour will travel through Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Belfast, Newcastle, Dublin, Cardiff and Glasgow.

Following the announcement, Kay’s official website appeared to crash briefly under increased online traffic.
A poster for the event featured Kay holding a sign reading, “Better late than never” and described a ticket to his shows as an “ideal Christmas gift”.

He returned to the stage in August 2021 for two special charity events to raise money for Laura Nuttall, a then 20-year-old with an aggressive type of brain cancer called glioblastoma multiforme.
There was also a brief return in January 2021 when he appeared on BBC Radio 2 to chat to Cat Deeley – who was filling in after Graham Norton left the station – about his love of music, mixtapes and the musical Mamma Mia.
He also made a surprise appearance at a charity screening of his series Car Share in 2018.
Over the last few years, Kay has delighted fans with his hit Bafta-winning TV series Car Share and stand-up routines.

Dates spanning from this December to August 2023.
