2021 Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 review, test ride
The bigger Avenger 220 Cruise is the one that stays true to the brand’s tag line, but has its own little flaws.

Unlike the Avenger Street 160 that debuted only in 2019, the Cruise 220 has been around for a while. Sitting at the top of the Avenger line-up, the Cruise differs from the Street in some functional aspects that make a world of a difference.
FEEL LIKE GOD
It’s a pretty bold tag line, but this Avenger Cruise 220 does make an impressive attempt at living up to it. For someone looking for a proper taste of what a cruiser has to offer, there isn’t an entry-level motorcycle that does it as well as the Cruise 220. The Cruise model is characterised by its wire-spoke wheels, generous amounts of chrome and long, low stance. The ergonomics, as well, are in line with what you’d expect from a cruiser – your feet are set forward, and a wide, swept-back handlebar enables you to manoeuvre the bike with very little effort. My only issue with this setup is that the handlebars will make contact with your knees while making sharp U-turns, or while filtering through traffic at slow speeds.
Just like with the Street, the Cruise also gets a tank-mounted secondary console with some tell-tale lights, but the fuel gauge is part of the primary handlebar-mounted fully digital unit. A tall, non-adjustable windscreen is part of the package as well, but I found that it does more harm than good for my 6-foot frame. A shorter rider will likely face less wind buffeting.
CRUISE CONTROL
Just like the Street 160, the Cruise 220 also gets an engine that first debuted on a Pulsar, but has a reduction in power here. This 220cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine is capable of peak output figures of 19.03hp at 8,500rpm and 17.55Nm at 7,000rpm. In application, this engine is notably calmer than the unit on the smaller Avenger and feels much more adept at maintaining highway speeds without too much stress. Performance is, unsurprisingly, better as well, and by a fair margin. The Cruise 220 gets to a 100kph nearly 10sec quicker than the Street 160.
The Cruise 220 costs about Rs 23,000 more than Street 160, at Rs 1.27 lakh. It’s a fair margin between the two, but if you’re looking for more performance, the ability to take your bike out on long highway rides, and the visual appeal of a cruiser, it’s a stretch you should consider making.

Low Maintenance, High performance
By KT @ Aug 24, 2021 09:02 PM
Have been using for 2 years now. One strech 200 kms is doable hassle free. If tyres, Schoks and with alignment and servicing in place, Can be a good off roader in the segment. Caution :- Very Risky in high speed because of weight and no ABS in older models.. Value for money.

Turning is a nightmare
By Sojan @ Mar 24, 2021 07:18 PM
This bike is designed for long rides with comfortable and low seating position, however when you turn the bike in a rough road/off road, the handle act like a bicycle handle and have tendency to be waitless and to push upwards, to be very careful otherwise you will skid. But only good thing is your seat is too low so can balance easly.
Back seat dimension need more width like indian chef
By Manikandan @ Feb 17, 2021 04:14 PM
I baught it on Jan 14 2021, while taking delivery side box not fixed properly, the design need to changes like HD or Indian scout look, colors are to be added like royal enfield, back rest and seat need more cushion, ABS need on front and back. OVERALL IT IS OK.

Issue in gear shifting
By Manju @ Jan 23, 2020 11:13 PM
I bought my Dream bike on 22/03/18. b4 that i used other bike CBR 150, Frazer but still I had crush on Average bike. Aft I took bike in short period I got issue in gear shifting I informed in each service but it's not rectified. Finally in 2019 jan I got call from saying that some manufacturing defect so please visit authorised service centre as per there instruction I visit and they said it's minor issue it will take 1hr. Aft I came & see they opened engin i asked how can open engine they said router* replacement ( I don't know exact name of that) I don't know what to say with disappointment. 1. Gear shutting; Main issue I can't shift gear when I need boz of that am not confident to over take other vehicles. 2. Rear drum Break: it's very bad if I need to apply I have to push harder (it's not break liner issue I changed and tried) 3. Slippery: if I apply rear break in 40 to 45km it's not stop in short distance its slip like sand on road even road is perfect. Compare to 100cc bike. 100cc bikes are easily stop in short distance but not 220cc that too having big tyre. Below issues are minor problems but still I'm mentioning. 4. Break sound: from day one to till now I get irritate when ever I apply rear break. 5. Head light: it's not focus like other bike & scooters. 6. No pass light option for high beam (Dim & up button)

By Kshitij Vyas @ Dec 22, 2019 12:18 PM
It's been a year I am riding Avenger 220 cruise, crossed 25000km till now ....and bike is performing well....the seating is best for longer routes.......driven off road too it went well. Max speed reached 130........ average 40 sometimes 45 .......only one thing bajaj cam improve in this bike which is self start gear....yes this doesn't come with a kick so they need to more powerful self start system.

Best bike for riding but worst service center
By Vipin K Antony @ Nov 26, 2019 10:08 PM
I love my bike. I have avenger 220 cruise gold 2016 model. Its covered 18000kms now. And still i have no issues with my bike. But i got very very poor service from nearest service center. They are too irresponsible. They denied my vehicle's warranty and said that "you can complain to bajaj directly if u need".. They even dont know how to behave..! I'm too dissatisfied in service of "Grand Bajaj, Thrissur, Kerala" Avenegr is the best vehicle for comfort long ride, but we all customers are forced to go for local workshops.

Don't buy Avenger cruise 220
By Kirthy @ Oct 03, 2019 08:05 AM
I bought new Avenger cruise with digital display below are the major issues. Please Don't buy this 1. The petrol indicator in digital display is wrong for all bikes(Manufacture defect). At times it shows half full even when it is empty. 2. Even though it is a very new bike. There is always sound in disc brakes and I understand nothing can be done to resolve this.you will not feel a new bike experience bcoz of this. 3. Gear lever is very lenghty. Even for tallest person both front and back of lever will not fit within your feet. 4. Very poor mileage. Not more than 30km even if tuned. 5. No space to keep even the bike documents. 6.The side flap where the battery is located doesn't lock well and there will be a gap.

Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 Summary
The Avenger Cruise 220 is one of the most accessible options for people looking for a quintessential, low-slung, long-wheelbase cruiser. However, it’s also long in the tooth for it hasn’t received a major update since its inception. It’s quite basic in terms of features and the hardware and engine are slightly dated now.
With a pulled-back handlebar and forward-set footpegs, the Avenger Cruise offers laidback seating ergonomics. The seat is also quite spacious and is suitable for individuals with all kinds of build. Plus, with a low seat height of 737mm, it’s accessible even for shorter riders. The feature list includes a round LCD instrument cluster and LED headlamp and tail lamp.
Powering the bike is a 220cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled, twin-spark, SOHC motor that produces 18.7bhp of power at 8,500rpm and 17.5Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. The engine is linked to a five-speed gearbox. Shock absorption duties are handled by telescopic forks with double anti-friction bush at the front and five-step adjustable twin springs at the back. Anchoring power comes from a 280mm disc at the front and a 130mm drum brake at the rear. The safety net on the motorcycle includes single-channel ABS.

Rating:* 3.5/5 *Pros:* - *Powerful Engine:* The 220cc engine provides ample power for highway cruising and city riding. - *Comfortable Ride:* The bike's ergonomics and suspension offer a comfortable ride quality, making long rides enjoyable. - *Fuel Efficiency:* The Avenger 220 Cruise delivers impressive fuel efficiency, with an average of 40-45 kmpl. - *Attractive Design:* The bike's classic cruiser design turns heads on the road, with a sleek and stylish look. - *Feature-Packed Instrument Cluster:* The bike's instrument cluster includes a digital odometer, trip meter, and fuel gauge. *Cons:* - *Poor Service and Customer Care:* The service and customer care provided by Bajaj are subpar, with long waiting times and unhelpful staff. - *No Kick Start:* The bike lacks a kick start option, making it difficult to start when the battery is dead. - *Battery Issues:* When the battery dies, there's no option but to push the bike, as there's no kick start or backup system. - *Limited Ground Clearance:* The bike's ground clearance is limited, making it prone to scraping on rough roads. *Detailed Review:* The Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise is a mixed bag, offering a powerful engine, comfortable ride, and attractive design. However, it falls short in terms of service and customer care, with a lack of support from the manufacturer. The bike's engine is its strongest point, providing smooth power delivery and decent performance. The comfortable ride quality makes it suitable for long rides, and the fuel efficiency is impressive. However, the lack of a kick-start option and poor battery reliability are significant drawbacks. When the battery dies, you're left with no option but to push the bike, which can be frustrating. Additionally, the service and customer care provided by Bajaj are disappointing, with long waiting times and unhelpful staff. *Verdict:* The Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise is a good bike, but its flaws hold it back from being a great one. If you're willing to overlook the poor service and customer care, it's a decent option for those seeking a comfortable cruiser. However, if reliability and support are your top priorities, you may want to consider other options.

Tips for other riders

I've been riding Avenger for almost 20 years. I purchased 1st Avenger(red) 180 cc and rode it for 10 years. Then bought new Avenger 220cc in 2015 and riding it since then. To be frank, bike is amazing, the performance is fine, no vibrations, spares are not expensive, simple and elegant model. But, Everyone and everything has some age. Just like it, bike and it's parts also have some age. Wear & tear, rust, exposure to water, sun and too cold, every weather has some impact on parts and performance. So after 10 years of riding it I started facing some issues of engine sound, loosening of fasteners, vibrations etc. But maintenance is very economical. You can go for it if your budget is not high and want to cruise only. However, for rash driving go for some rough or sporty bike.
Go for tubeless tyres.
Worst bike ever Avenger 220

Worst bike ever purchased. Owned this bike for 9 years and I spent almost the amount I purchased it.. Vibrations engine parts are damaged every 2 to 3 months. I spent loads of money on this bike but was never satisfied. Not recommend this bike to anyone. I have one smart hero better than this Avenger 220. didn't spend more than 1k on that bike in 8 years .

The bike is very comfortable for driving in the city and on highways. The only cons I felt were that height is quite low for tall people otherwise it's a good package. Owning an Avenger is a rollercoaster ride. Avenger Cruise 220 is a kind cruiser in India. Best to use in India really good.
5000-10000 kms
Use it on high gear.
Self starting problem is not slove permanently. Only ride after 1000 km problem is reopen.

Self-starting problem. Model 2018. I Repair many times by market and Bajaj authorized service center but the problem is recreated in only a few kilometers. I ride this bike only 10k kilometers. Waste of money. And Bajaj service center members are not corporate with you. Waste money don't buy this bike. Very poor quality.

Style you get noticed on the road with the styling that new avenger cruise has. People turn back, slow down and watch the bike, some even ask for mileage and price. Stands out different in many parked vehicles. Engine performance, fuel economy and gearbox engine performance: throttle response is crisp. Very good pickup for a cruiser.
