ARC present LED ZEPPELIN IV with KRAM (SPIDERBAIT) / DARREN MIDDLETON (POWDERFINGER) / MARK WILSON (JET) / DAVEY LANE (YOU AM I)
“This was an incredible performance!” HiFi Way
“Some of Australia’s best musicians playing some of the greatest songs of all time.” The Music
“ARC takes a bow for curtain call to a second standing ovation and depart. The audience are having none of this, demanding a return for a final encore.” BMA
Aussie supergroup AUSTRALIAN ROCK COLLECTIVE (ARC) - Darren Middleton (Powderfinger), Mark Wilson (Jet), Davey Lane (You Am I) and Kram (Spiderbait) - are joining forces again to bring to life one of the greatest albums of all time, Led Zeppelin’s 1971 masterpiece, Led Zeppelin IV.
Hitting the road for a 12-date national tour in June 2024, ARC will perform Led Zeppelin IV in full, from start to finish, to be followed by a second set playing classics and fan favourites selected from Led Zeppelin’s lauded catalogue.
Hailed as one of the most innovative, successful and influential bands of modern music, their untitled fourth album commonly known as Led Zeppelin IV features the eight-minute epic “Stairway to Heaven,” “Going to California,” “Black Dog,” and “Rock and Roll.”
ARC present Led Zeppelin IV marks the band’s fifth national outing preceded the unanimously praised and sold-out tours paying homage to Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon (2023), Neil Young’s Harvest (2022), The Beatles’ Let It Be (2021) and the extended dates of their debut tour, The Beatles’ Abbey Road (2019-2020).
Led Zeppelin - Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham and John Paul Jones – released Led Zeppelin IV on November 8, 1971. Produced by guitarist Jimmy Page, the album was recorded between December 1970 and February 1971 at the historic English cottage, Headley Grange.
The informal recording environment inspired the band, allowing them to try different arrangements of material and create songs in various styles. After the band's previous album, Led Zeppelin III , received lukewarm reviews from critics they decided their fourth album would officially be untitled and would be represented instead by four symbols – one chosen by each band member – without featuring the name or any other details on the cover.
As with prior albums, most of the material was written by the band, though there was one cover song, a hard rock re-interpretation of the Memphis Minnie blues song “When the Levee Break.”
Led Zeppelin IV was a commercial and critical success and the band’s best-selling album, shipping more than 37 million copies worldwide while critics have regularly placed it highly on lists of the greatest albums of all time. Led Zeppelin were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.

If in fact you have never seen the real Led Zeppelin in concert, seeing these guys live is as close as one can get. They have all the moves, they know every note of every song.... it is just amazing how well they impersonate the real thing.
John Tuckness, Daily Herald, Chicago.
Led Zeppelin fans – be on notice. You are about to witness the legendary British supergroup in all its glory and excesses! Widely hailed as "the best Led Zeppelin band on the planet,” (Dennis D’Amico, Exec. Prod. Paul McCartney), NO QUARTER , is pounding its way to a venue near you soon, all the way from Seattle US.
Rolling Stone magazine credited the band for keeping the Zeppelin spirit alive in a 2012 Collector’s EditikZeppelin. This is an authentic reproduction of Led Zeppelin’s ground breaking stage show, so faithfully recreated that original band member, John Paul Jones said that “I never have to worry about touring with my band again.”
No Quarter has been wowing audiences all over the world in their authentic tribute stage show for more than 15 years and has shared the stage with such legendary artists as Peter Frampton, Foreigner, Steppenwolf, Loverboy, Jefferson Starship and many others. Band members take on the characters of John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and bring each of them to the stage in their absolute prime. This is more than a tribute act, NO QUARTER capture all of the subtle nuances and mannerisms of the characters they are representing just like actors in a film. Fans who have seen the original band will think they have returned and will have the opportunity to relive the magic. Fans who never had the chance to witness the supergroup won’t believe their luck and will finally get to experience the iconic and ground breaking stage show for the first time.
Witness a moment in history come to life and don’t miss the pounding, haunting experience of NO QUARTER , at a venue near you soon.

In a 2014 revisit of Led Zeppelin IV , The Music reviewer Guido Farnell wrote that the album was a “ game changer that put definition to the term hard rock and created a rule book that was to be ripped up and burned by the punks and post-punks a few short years later.”

Led Zeppelin – Australia 1972
Published on
Led Zeppelin’s 1972 Australasian Tour was the only tour of Australia and New Zealand by the British rock band.
The group had built up a loyal following down under with their first four albums all making the top 3 on the Australian charts, (both Led Zep II and III reached No.1).
The tour commenced on February 16 and concluded on February 29, 1972.
The original plan for this tour was for the group to stop off en route at Singapore for a concert on February 14, but the local authorities refused their entry due to local laws banning males from wearing long hair!
Led Zeppelin received rave reviews for this tour and black and white footage of some of their concert at Sydney on February 27, were filmed by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, some of this footage was later made available on the Led Zeppelin DVD, released in 2003.
16th Feb 1972 Led Zeppelin made their Australian live debut when they kicked off a six-date tour at the Subiaco Oval, Perth. Police battled with over 500 fans who rammed locked gates trying to get into the concert. Over 4,000 fans stood outside the venue without tickets.
17th Feb 1972 Police raided the Scarborough Hotel in Perth, Australia where all the members of Led Zeppelin were staying after their debut live performance in the country the night before. Police woke all the members and searched their baggage and belongings but no drugs were found. Jimmy Page told a local paper: “They came into our rooms and started abusing us – they were very rude”.
18th Feb 1972 Memorial Drive, Adelaide. Zeppelin had brought to Adelaide the largest PA system seen in Australia to produce what was expected to be the loudest rock show ever heard.
20th Feb 1972 Led Zeppelin played an afternoon show at Kooyong Tennis Courts, Melbourne to over 15,000 fans. Zeppelin were forced off the stage near the end of the show after a rainstorm developed suddenly at this outdoor venue, but returned to finish the set.
24th Feb 1972 Led Zeppelin appeared in front of over 20,000 fans at the Western Springs Stadium, Auckland, New Zealand, the group’s first ever gig in New Zealand. News reviews the next day reported the band could be heard over 5 miles from the Stadium.
27th Feb 1972 Led Zeppelin appeared at Sydney Showgrounds, Sydney in Australia, over 25,000 fans attending the show.
29th Feb 1972 On the last date of an Australian tour, Led Zeppelin played at the Festival Hall in Brisbane Festival Hall.
On the 20th anniversary of the original release of Led Zeppelin IV , it was announced that ‘Stairway To Heaven’ had logged up an estimated 2,874,000 radio plays, (back to back, that would run for 44 years solid). As of 2000, the song had been broadcast on radio over three million times.

Hi can any one tell me how long they were on stage for the Australian Concerts ? Wondering if it was the normal 60 minutes or less or 90 minutes the Normal back then for visiting British Bands. I seen them in London when they returned and they were on stage over 3 hours both nights.

Not very many people know about these shows as well as the Japanese shows that Led Zeppelin did in '71 and '72. But, in my opinion, the Australian shows are actually some of the most important in their career as a band. Why? Well, first off, it gave them an introduction to stadiums, which they played during '73 and '77 in North America, including their famous Atlanta, Tampa and Detroit shows. Heck, they played to some 80,000 people in a 50,000 seat stadium in Perth on the first night. In Sydney, they played to between 30,000 and 40,000 people. Maybe even more!!! Secondly, it proved that the band can actually rock in places that aren't just in America and Europe. Sure they played Japan just a few months before, but they were, to what, 10,000 people. They were the biggest thing to come to Australia since The Beatles in '64. They also set a record attendance for the highest attended show in New Zealand, when they played in Auckland to about 25,000 people. And that is pretty big. I'm from N.Z., and they're not the biggest rockers in the world. And imagine in 1972!!! All in all, these were definently some very important concerts in the band's career. Hear is the complete inteniary with the rounded attendance.
16th February - Perth, Australia - Subiaco Oval - 80,000
19th February - Adelaide, Australia - Memorial Drive Park - 8,000
20th February - Melbourne, Australia - Kooyong Stadium - 14,000
25th February - Auckland, New Zealand - Western Springs Stadium - 25,000
27th February - Sydney, Australia - Sydney Showground - 38,000
29th February - Brisbane, Australia - Brisbane Festival Hall - 6,000

This tour is one of my favorites. We’re very lucky to have some great audio recordings of these shows. And some great films. Tho I wish we had some more great footage.
The picture shot from behind the stage at Melbourne with the rain storm looming overhead is one of the best pictures ever take of the band.
Just some notes about this tour -
1) Singapore show, February 14th - this was cancelled due to the authorities banning people with long hair into their country.
2) Perth show - February 16th - during the Whole Lotta Love rock n' roll medley, many fans jumped onto the stage, and one even ripped Robert Plant's shirt. The next morning, the band were fined for charging a riot. This is probably why they never came back to Australia.
3) Adelaide show - February 19th - postponed from February 18th. CCR were playing at the Apollo Stadium that same night, and many had to choose - Led Zeppelin or CCR.
4) Melbourne show - February 20th - One word - Rain
5) Auckland show - February 25th - First show with a shaved Jimmy Page.
6) Sydney show - February 27th - The band filmed Immigrant Song for their Led Zeppelin DVD. However, the audio is not from this date. It is from either the Inglewood Forum or Long Beach Arena (both in '72)
7) Brisbane Show - February 29th - The band's last concert in Australia.

I LOVE these photo's! I think there's quite a few from an Aussie soundcheck too (a barefoot Robert Plant IIRC). What fun they must have had during the early years. Incredible.
Cool pics, thanks for sharing!

I'm pretty sure the last two were taken during their show at the Sydney Showground... The first one I'm not so sure. But it's quite funny when you think about. The stage is just basically a long wooden platform, with amps and the ocassional lights.

The last two are from Melbourne February 20.
The first shot is Sydney, the bottom two are Melbourne.

If the last two are from Melbourne, that sure looks like quite a bit more than just 14,000 people (quoted from above). Maybe its just perspective but that audience looks closer to 40k+. Was the 14k audience claim a typo?

Kooyong Stadium seating capacity is about 5,000 + approx 9,000 on the lawn.

Not very many bands performed in East Asia apart from Japan. Deep Purple were one of the first, and performed in Jakarta in 1975. However, it turned out into this big scandal thingy ma jig. And then nobody really performed there until like the 90's.

Kooyong was a tennis stadium not a football stadium. No way was it close to 40,000. It's just the perspective that makes it seem that large.

I just recently went to see Queen in Auckland. I thought there were what 35 to 40,000 people there. Turns out there was on 27,000. I think it's a pretty good example of the More Than Meets The Eye thing. Although, the venue was very flexible, so there could've been about 20 to 30,000 people but I'm not so sure.

The offical capacity was around 10 to 15,000 during the 70's/80's. It's been reduced to 5,000. There may as well have been 25,000 people at Melbourne.
My best friend's parents went to the Melbourne show but I haven't gotten too many stories over the years about what it was like, beyond the fact that as a performance, it was life changing, and Plant was absolutely incredible in person. The other thing I've heard from them was the crushing disappointment of seeing TSRTS in a theatre a few years after having seen the band at their peak.

Yeah... the band were definently the best during 1972. It's my favourite year.

Yeah seeing them in such a small venue would have been amazing!
D+C from the Sydney show is just sick. I love how they continued on with the theme from Shaft like they did a few months earlier in the UK. Except this time, Bonzo and Jonesy are playing the theme while Jimmy plays a completely different guitar part that sounds great, a very fun and playful riff. He reintroduces the fun riff right before the Mars section.

led zeppelin tour history
In 1968, Led Zeppelin was formed in London. They went on to become one of the most influential rock bands of all time and are still touring today.
In 1969, they released their first album which included hits such as Whole Lotta Love and Black Dog. The band has had many line-up changes over the years but Jimmy Page remains the only original member left; he is also a producer for other artists including David Bowie, Def Leppard, and Bob Seger.
Their live performance at Madison Square Garden in 1975 is considered by some critics to be one of the greatest musical performances ever. The following year they embarked on a tour with renewed vigor after John Bonham’s death from alcohol-related issues earlier that year.
Theatre, one show at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and three shows at the Royal Festival Hall in London. They played for well over 400 thousand people during this tour! On December 10th of 1977, they arrived to start their US tour which would last until February 20th, 1978 when they headlined two nights at Madison Square Garden. This tour included 33 concerts with an attendance of 2 million people.
led zeppelin tour shirt
The Led Zeppelin Tour Shirt is a vintage concert t-shirt from the 1970s that has been re-released for fans to enjoy. This shirt was originally worn by those who attended Led Zeppelin concerts in the 70s and 80s, but now this shirt can be worn by anyone.
The front of the shirt displays a red circle with white stripes around it which symbolizes their logo. The back of the shirt reads “Led Zeppelin” on one side and “Tour ’76” on the other side; both phrases are written in black cursive font against a white background. It also features an illustration of three people standing together wearing long sleeve shirts, jeans, boots, and bandanas while holding guitars in their hands.
Written by Foysal Patwary
Foysal played a local musician as a guitarist in the Blacktown band. He later worked as a musician on a small firm, where he played a role on the cover of the song. While subtaking from music, Foysal studied music analysis in Bangladesh with music and started composing plays. His songs with Jackson Pollock have been produced in Dhaka and regionally. He has received awards from the Commission for composing plays in music and concerts. He later started writing a blog about music, concerts and schedules.
