Normally I live all the kwik trips, they are clean and food always fresh. Yesterday however was very frustrating at the plover store. Mandatory mask sign was posted at all entry doors. Half the customers and 1/3 of the employees were not wearing them. I am not a mask fan, don't get me wrong, but take the mandatory signs down if it is not going to be enforced or followed. I took my mask off at the register and asked the attendant, apparently I don't need this if even your own people are not wearing them!! He told me, no you don't have to wear it if you don't want too. I will not stop going to kwik trip, just a frustrating time!!
The snack selection here is like a small truck stop. Donuts to hot dogs to soup. Beer and cigars are VERY cheap if that's your thing. Milk can be bought at all Kwik Trips in traditional milk jugs or if you want to save some dough and be a little easier on the environment you can buy your milk here by the bag. In comparison to all the other gas stations in central Wisconsin, the snack selection and prices are untouchable. They are open 24/7 and they have gas here too. I love the no fee AT M's.
Was driving through the area and made a stop here. This store sells fresh produce oranges, apples, potatoes, onions, as well as a very large selection of snacks, hot or cold. Clean store, fast service.

29 Road Trip Must-Have Products That'll Make You Forget The Phrase "Ugh Are We There Yet"
If you're basically spending half of the day (if not more) in the car, I know you'll want this giant neck pillow and cup holder food tray.
BuzzFeed Staff
1. An over-the-seat organizer that has pockets, pockets, and MORE POCKETS! Whether it's endless gas station candies, a large McDonald's Sprite, or some entertaining games, this has the space to keep you organized for your long journey ahead.
Promising review : "These were a last-minute purchase before a summer road trip with our 4- and 7-year-old sons, and I couldn’t be happier! It’s a great way to keep the car organized with games, toys, colors, devices, water bottles, etc. Definitely recommend for every day and road trip use !" — Kathy
Get it from Amazon for $13.99 (available in two colors).
2. A fluffy car pillow because waking up from an amazing car nap usually comes with the not-so-amazing neck pain. This easily buckles behind the headrest and gives you a *proper* place for your head to rest. Neck pain? Never heard of her.
Promising review : "My second grader used this while we road-tripped for two weeks. It eliminated that awkward contortion that kids do when they nap in the car . It was definitely one of our more useful purchases for the trip. Keep in mind that the pillow is large and can take up some space in a cramped car. Outside of traveling, my kid likes to use it inside the house since it's so soft. She naps with it on the bed or just snuggles with it while reading." — Sarah Aquino
Get it from Amazon for $39.99+ (available in two styles and six colors).
3. A license plate game that'll get you and your kiddos to keep your eyes off Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok and look out for plates from Idaho, Florida, and Texas! Each license plate is magnetic, so you won't lose them all over the car floor.
Promising review : "I love this for road trips. I bought this for our first road trip that was longer than we have ever gone. Now I take it every time we go more than two hours from home. I, the mom, love it the most. I’m always looking for plates now. Haha. Fun activity for the whole family to do that is not just iPad time." — Amanda Gainey
Get it from Amazon for $10.52 .
4. A Springer leak-proof water bottle so you can make sure even your fur baby is hydrated and taken care of. Just squeeze the bottle to fill up the built-in bowl, and when your pup is done, the water sucks right back into the bottle! So genius!
Springer Pets is a woman-owned small business run by a mother-daughter duo (and the dogs who love them). They were also featured on Shark Tank!
Promising review : "I am extremely happy with this purchase! We have two medium-sized dogs (30 lbs and 42 lbs), and this was a LIFESAVER. We beat the heat, car anxiety, and quenching thirst by providing our fur babies with much-needed water breaks. This bottle is 'mess-free' and was absolutely easy to provide water to our dogs even while we where driving. No water spills, no need for extra plastic water bottles or collapsible bowls . Throw some ice cubes in there, and you'll see it holds cool and fresh water for a good amount of time." — Tatiana
Get it from Amazon for $24.99+ (available in six colors).
5. A kid's car seat lap organizer featuring a dry-erase board that also doubles as a tray for snacks, a tablet holder, and so many pockets for crayons and toys. This helps keep your kid entertained and prevents you from having to grab all those markers they love to drop on the ground.
Some color options come with dry-erase markers and an eraser included!
Promising review : "Are you a parent who is sick of picking up everything your kid accidentally drops off their lap while on a car ride? If not, lucky you. If you are… this thing is great! We recently went on a beach vacation that involved a 9-hour drive each way with my 4-year-old. Usually, he drops stuff while playing with it. With this, everything stayed on the tray! It also helped him balance his tablet to watch, held his drink and foodstuff in place without anything spilling, and gave him a space to draw and play on. Easy to take on and off for potty breaks." — Dawn Michele
Get it from Amazon for $28.95+ (available in 11 colors).
6. A forever classic game of Mad Libs on the Road bound to get some laughs from the crowd because of the hilarious sentences you'll be retelling. No need to write in "Are we there yet?" — that one's not in there.
Promising review : "Our 8-year-old and 3-year-old LOVE playing mad libs. We keep it in the car to play while we wait for the bus or on car rides. I like that it's educational, too — reinforcing parts of speech and practicing spelling and reading, as well as broadening their vocabulary. A must-have for every family!" — Chelsea Peterson
Get it from Amazon for $4.65 .
7. A memory foam car seat cushion since driving for hours does a lot for your booty, and not in a good way. This provides extra support to help your back, improve your posture, and can even give you an extra boost for better visibility.
Promising review : "It worked great for long road trips to help with fatigue and lower back pain. I never imagined this would work as well as it did, and as an added bonus, it worked as a great pillow when we needed to pull over for short sleep [breaks] . It's worth the price for the pain it relieved." — Jess
Get it from Amazon for $22.99+ (available in three colors).
8. A car cup holder and eating tray for when you want to be *sophisticated* when eating your fast food meals on the go. The large tray and cup holder (which holds up to a 40-oz drink!) make eating on your lap a thing of the past.
Promising review : "I used it for a 13-hour road trip to Colorado for camping/wheeling, and it held up great. So nice to be able to throw snacks, fries, or whatever on there while I was driving. Perfect arm's length for everything I needed for the long drives. When I got home, I just removed the table part and used the big drink holder. Perfect to have a large water bottle in one and a big coffee tumbler in the other." — SamoanJoe
Get it from Amazon for $33.99+ (available with different add-ons).
9. A Febreze Unstopables car freshener if you don't want the lingering smell of french fries to be the only fragrance you smell for the remainder of your trip. This clips onto your air vent and makes your car smell real nice and fresh!
Promising review : "These are great and pretty strong. I made the mistake and tried another scent after using these and you have no idea how much I'm still regretting it. The scent lasts long after the oil inside is done, and it hits you as soon as you open your door, without being overbearing." — camelia virgo-evans
Get a pack of four from Amazon for $11.88 (available in two scents and five pack sizes)
10. A car power adapter with the ability to charge up to six devices at once, and it even has a cooling fan built in, so you don't have to worry about it overheating. No need to panic when your kid screams that the iPad ran out of juice, this will help you out big time.
This comes with a lighter adapter and allows you to plug in four USB chargers and two AC outlets!
Promising review : "It arrived just in time for a 15-hour road trip with five kids, everyone was able to keep their devices charged, and us parents didn't go crazy." — Tiffany
Get it from Amazon for $25.95+ (available in two sizes).
11. An herbal inhaler and oil stick that can help reduce nausea and motion sickness all in one little pocket-sized stick. You can breathe in on one end or rub the oil on your skin from the other. Going on a family road trip means there's gonna be a lot of *breathe in, breathe out* kind of moments — and not just from the nausea of being in the car for many hours.

This non-medicated and non-drowsy inhaler and oil is perfect for when you don't feel like taking medication but still want a little relief. Its made from natural herbs and isn't too overpowering.
Promising review : "We bought this when we went on a cruise, everyone used it! You can use it for smell or rub it on your wrist, behind your ears, etc. We now keep it in the car for my son who gets car sick. Just a quick, easy item!" — Brandi C.
Get a pack of two for $12.99 .
12. And, a Migrastil migraine roll-on stick made with peppermint and lavender essential oils to rub on your temples, forehead, and neck. Some reviewers say they were skeptical in the beginning but were pleasantly surprised at how well this worked to reduce their migraines and headaches.
Read more about aromatherapy and stress and tension at Johns Hopkins .
Promising review : "I will start this by saying, I am not one to try herbal remedies of any kind. However, this had good reviews and my husband is always looking for eucalyptus-smelling scents. The first time I tried this, both my husband and I tested it in a car ride, both fully expecting it not to work. We put it on our foreheads as directed and went about the car ride. Then 5–10 minutes later, I realized my (very bad) headache was much better . Out of nowhere, I said, 'So does your head feel...' and my husband blurted, 'Better?? Yes!!' We were both shocked. I ended up giving mine to my mom for a trip she was taking and bought another one. I've since used it a few more times, and it does not get rid of a headache but definitely lightens the pressure." — Stacy S.
Get it from Amazon for $12.95 .
13. An auto bingo card , which will introduce some friendly competition to see who can yell BINGO first. Instead of looking down at screens, this encourages your young ones to look for road signs, cars, and more. Plus, there are no loose pieces because the window shutters are built-in!
Regal Games is a small business based in Chicago, IL and has been around for over 70 years creating games for all ages.
Promising review : "I purchased as a gift for my daughter to use in the car with her children. These are perfect to occupy them on long road trips. She keeps them in the seat pocket so they are readily available. The sliding door for each square makes it very easy to play. No added pieces or markers to have to use ." — noreen
Get it from Amazon for $9.99 (available in five styles).
14. A car seat gap organizer because you can never have too many pockets or compartments when it comes to traveling on the road. Plus, it can help prevent your things from falling in between the car seat gaps! Now, you don't have to go rummaging through your bag to find where your sunglasses or pack of gum is because it'll be right next to you.
Promising review : "It worked great. Had to endure a road trip. As a couple, we have duplicates of everything: phones, iPads, wallets, drinks, and we make it maybe 100 miles before everything is all over the dash — but not anymore. Everything has a place it was great" — Karen D.
Get it from Amazon for $24.99 (available in five colors).
15. A mini car trash can so you can have a designated place for all those candy wrappers, used napkins, and whatever usually gets tossed on the bottom floor of your car. You can clip this onto a headrest or even some center consoles.
Promising review : "These are the perfect size. We are going on a road trip, so I got one for each of my front seats. They're not too bulky, and they hold a fair amount of trash. Love that they are adjustable and have pockets on the outside. Great for holding knickknacks or extra trash bags." — Katlyn
Get it from Amazon for $12.99+ (available in two sizes and nine colors).
16. A Travel Tray that fits into the cup holder and gives you easy access to your snacks so you can keep your eyes on the road. It also relieves you of constantly handing back food to your little ones, who always seem to drop everything you give them.
Travel Tray is a small-business that makes convenient products for easy snacking on the road.
Promising review : "I bought this for our car seat to use during a road trip. It really came in handy, and it's so easy to clean and reinstall . Bonus that it's snug enough in the cupholder, but not so snug that it makes getting drinks out of the holder hard for the child. I would buy this again." — Emily
Get it from Amazon for $16.99 (available in six colors).
17. A pair of Apple AirPods Pro because sometimes hearing dad's sixth college story makes you wanna just *pop* one of these noise-cancelling earbuds in. And if you still wanna listen to your T-Swift while pretening to be kind of attentive, you can switch to transparency mode, which lets you hear when you need to chime in with a "that's cool" response.
Promising review : "With two small children, I can vouch for the noise-canceling feature. I never thought noise canceling would work well using earbuds and that it was more a gimmick than anything. I was wrong. Definitely works. Alternatively, I LOVE that I can turn it off so that I can keep the buds in for a call or while watching a *real* movie from my tablet (instead of the 347th episode of Bluey that is on our TV) and still be able to properly supervise the kiddos." — MKE
Get them from Amazon for $189.99 .
18. A backseat pet protector your car really needs if you've got a shedder or just need to give your pup a nonslip surface to rest on. This attaches to the headrests and it's even waterproof! Plus, if you come to a sudden stop, your pet won't go flying into the footwell.
Promising review : "Perfect for travel. Didn't get to test it much because my pup just HAD to be in the front seat with me the whole time. I bought the front seat cover to match, so I know the material is amazing. Pretty comfortable, canvas-type material. Easily cleaned and mostly water-resistant. Had a slight spill on the front seat cover that was wiped rather quickly, and none transferred to my actual car seat. The adjustable straps and backseat anchors are easy to install." — Ashley C.
Get it from Amazon for $33.30+ (available in five colors and an optional dog seat belt).
19. A Munchkin Snack Catcher so you can *somewhat* have peace of mind knowing that crackers aren't going to be spewing left and right, thanks to the soft protective flaps that keep the snack secure.
Promising review : "I absolutely love these. They are easy to use, my kids love them, and they are great for preventing spills! The lid has a unique silicone-type opening that the kids can just squeeze their hands through and grab some snacks. I would recommend this due to its versatility for road trips, events, etc. I am writing this review after owning these cups for YEARS. I have purchased them over and over again. They're fantastic. Never broke either, I've ordered more as I lost the original, so great investment for help with a mess-free life." — Amazon12x
Get a two-pack from Amazon for $5.96 .
20. And, a portable car vacuum if there's any leftover crumbs or dog hair that you somehow always end up finding no matter what you do to prevent it. This mini vacuum has strong suction power and can even fit in a cup holder!
Promising review : "This little crumb sucking machine is awesome! I have had mine for about six weeks now. As a mom of four, I find that my kids are always dropping crackers or dry cereal and then stepping on them. The car seats are known to have entire ecosystems in all the nooks and crannies. This vacuum tackles all of them without trouble. I leave mine in the trunk of the van plugged into the outlet back there so that it’s always charged when I need it. Worth every dime! It hasn’t died on me yet… And I’ve run it 20 minutes straight before." — Wundermama
Get it from Amazon for $69.99 (available in five colors).
21. A pack of emergency disposable urinal bags for when you're on the go and you ~just gotta go~. This changes any liquid (urine, vomit, etc.) into an odorless gel-like substance and securely seals it for a mess-free disposal. One less stop at a gas station bathroom is a win in my book!
Promising review: "We are a husband-and-wife long-distance driving team, and we use these bags when we are not close to a bathroom. They totally seal with no leaks! The thin strip inside the bag turns the urine into a gel and makes disposal much easier . The size of the bag is perfect. A true lifesaver! We highly recommend!" — Audra Baxter
Get a pack of eight from Amazon for $7.90 (also available in larger pack options).
22. A pack of Awake caffeinated chocolates that are individually wrapped and contain the equivalent of half a cup of coffee (50mg of caffeine) in one bite-sized candy. These can help you stay awake and prevent you from drinking even more caffeinated liquids that cause you to take a bathroom detour.
Promising review : "These chocolates are worth every penny, especially when you could just put it in your bag and go and grab it and you don’t have to stop anywhere . Would highly recommend! It's especially great for people who don’t want the big energy drinks to carry around or coffee, just a little pick-me-up on the side. They work great and taste great — you won’t regret it!" — My opinion
Get a pack of 50 from Amazon for $36.99 (available in six flavors and two variety packs).
23. A seatbelt shoulder pad so you can drive without having the belt dig into your neck for several hours. This easily attaches to the seatbelt and gives you some extra comfort, which is definitely a priority when it comes to being in the car for a long (or short!) amount of time.
Promising review : "We absolutely love these shoulder pad cushions in our car. The seatbelt, even at its lowest setting, would scratch my neck. I would be left with scratches on my neck as a result. My husband often pulls his shoulder strap out on long trips because he is uncomfortable. Since purchasing these, I no longer get scratches and my husband is comfortable even after eight hours in the car . Great purchase!" — Fourth Grade Teacher
Get it from Amazon for $7.99 (available in 18 colors).
24. A battery-operated fan that straps onto a car seat, headrest, or stands on its own to keep you cool, especially if you don't feel the AC extending all the way back to the third row of the car. You might not be a fan of cross-country road trips, but you'll be a ~big fan~ of this little fan.
Promising review: " I really love this fan because you can literally hang it or stand it on just about anything . I took it on a 12-hour road trip and stopped for a couple of hours to take a nap, and the fan lasted on high for about 2–3 hours. I still haven’t had to charge it since I got it, but I probably will soon. I have another long drive, and I’m camping, so it’s great to have it with me. It’s also super light but feels like a quality fan. Hardly made noise, and the low hum it did make was soothing to me. I recommend this fan!" — Kelsey O'Leary
Get it from Amazon for $29.99 (available in three colors).
25. A hands-free tablet holder , which makes it feel like you've got your own personal movie theatre in the back seat of your car. No need to balance all your snacks, blankets, and pillows, this holds your tablet for you and gives you a worry-free viewing experience.
Promising review : "This is the second tablet holder purchased for use while in a car. The holder secures easily behind a headrest and once clipped in, it can be oriented accordingly to hold a typical tablet for rear seat viewing. The swivel function is great for a front seat passenger to swivel a tablet forward to assist with selecting the next episode, etc. on the tablet without awkward body placement." — JZ
Get it from Amazon for $19.99 .
26. A contoured sleep mask so that you can get some shut-eye for at least some of the road trip. This blocks out 100% of light, doesn't put tight pressure on your eyes, and the adjustable straps make sure it won't fall off even if you get into one of those weird sleeping positions you do when you're in the car.
Promising review: " Never thought I'd spend this kind of money on a simple eye mask, but I did and don't regret it at all. Yes, it's perfect for side sleepers, it doesn't move, and blocks out every bit of light. The game changer is the space around your eyes so it's not pushing on your lashes. Buy this, and you'll never look back." — Jessica
Get it from Amazon for $16.99+ (available in six colors).
27. A tissue holder , which clips onto your sun visor so you don't have to pull over to take both hands off the wheel and rummage through your bag for those little tissues that you then ALSO have to open up. So when you tear up realizing there are still 13 hours left in your road trip, these are convenient and ready to grab.
People have also put napkins or disposable face masks in these!
Promising review : "This is my second time buying it, this car tissue holder makes my car more organized and saves space . I love this car tissue holder! So when my sister got her new car, I ordered this again for her as a gift. She loves it too. She said the design is amazing, the clip holds on tightly. When she is driving and needs a tissue. No more stopping alongside the road looking for the box. This car tissue case is attractive, elegant, and modern. Good quality!" — Cathy
Get it from Amazon for $9.79+ (available in four colors).
28. A 3-in-1 car phone mount you can suction cup on your dashboard, windshield, or clip to your air vent. This keeps your phone secure from any bumps in the road, whether it's a physical bump or an unexpected detour where you NEED your Waze directions at eye level.
This has a retractable arm and 360º rotation for the perfect positioning you want.
Promising review : "I had bought another auto phone holder but this was the best. Rather than placing it in the middle of my dash or blocking my front view, I placed it on the left of the steering wheel in an area that was already a blind spot. I was able to spin, bend, and tilt it to exactly the right position. The quick-release button for my phone is so convenient. It has held in place for three months now, even when the windows are down and the wind is blowing. Finally! My phone is not inconveniently taking up one of the spots in my cup holders." — Anonymous genius
Get it from Amazon for $11.99+ (available in four colors).
29. A portable Wi-Fi hotspot that'll make sure you don't miss a second of that 14-part TikTok series spilling all of the tea (iykyk) while you're driving through the middle of nowhere. You can connect up to 10 devices, and it lets you stay online for up to 16 hours!
You can also purchase larger gigabyte plans and international day passes to connect to your account.
Promising review : "Portability and keeping me connected to the internet while traveling is the best. Kept my 6-year-old granddaughter connected to the internet while we drove for seven hours. Prior to that, she had only ridden in the car for no more than 60 minutes (and was not happy about it). Successful trip thanks to Solis Lite." — Steve P.
Get it from Amazon for $159.99+ (also available in 5G option).

Road-rage violence is surging, data shows, often with deadly results.

Data shows road rage episodes have surged by over 400% in recent years.
Sadly, road range incidents have become all too common in our short-tempered society. In recent days alone, a motorist in Valley View, OH was killed in an act of road rage; in Indianapolis, IN an armed man angrily approached a pickup truck with gun in hand, only to be shot by the subject of his discontent; a physical altercation between two drivers in Billings, MT resulted in the death on a 55-year-old man.
Experts advise motorists to stay cool and collected behind the wheel, especially with the additional traffic hitting the roads for the upcoming Labor Day weekend. That’s because reported road-rage shootings have surged by over 400% in recent years according to the anti-gun violence website The Trace , with ticked-off drivers being responsible for shooting 3,095 people — 777 fatally — between 2014 and 2023.
A separate report commissioned by the dash cam company Nextbase found that 79% of all U.S. drivers have experienced aggressive driving or outright road rage, with a third of them being subjected to multiple roadway skirmishes each month.
"As Labor Day approaches—a time when millions of Americans take to the roads for holiday travel—road rage becomes an even more pressing issue," says Bryn Brooker, Head of Road Safety for Nextbase. "Increased traffic, longer drives, and heightened stress levels make drivers more susceptible to aggression and innocent families more vulnerable.”
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration defines road rage as, "The operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that endangers or is likely to endanger persons or property." There’s even a medical term for those who vent their fury on impulse upon other motorists, “intermittent explosive disorder.”
Ukraine’s F-16s Have Scored Their First Aerial Kills
Ransomware gang targets google chrome users in surprise new threat twist, trump vs. harris 2024 polls: harris leads by 4 points in post-dnc survey.
Often the aggressive driver is in a hurry, is intoxicated or is suffering from mental or emotional issues. Road rage can manifest as one motorist shouting or making an obscene gesture to someone in another vehicle, angrily honking the horn or reckless driving that involves cutting off, tailgating, chasing, brake checking or deliberately crashing into another vehicle and/or running it off the road. At the extreme it can cause a fuming motorist to exit his her vehicle and either threaten, physically attack or even fire a gun at a fellow motorist or pedestrian.
Perhaps not surprisingly, road rage outbursts tend to be most prevalent in larger cities, with these big burgs leading all metropolitan areas in this regard, according to theTrace, with the number of incidents recorded from 2014-2023 noted:
- Houston, TX (215)
- Memphis, TN (107)
- San Antonio, TX (107)
- Milwaukee, WI (105)
- Chicago, IL (75)
- Detroit, MI (63)
- Albuquerque, NM (61)
- Philadelphia, PA (59)
- Phoenix, AZ (58)
- Atlanta, GA (55)
Note that the aforementioned estimates of reported incidents are likely to be conservative as road rage is rarely reported as such. While several states have passed laws against “aggressive driving,” only one, California, has a bona fide road rage bill on the books.
Experts say the best way to respond when another driver seems to be venting his or her anger in your direction is not to react at all. If another driver cuts you off or is otherwise driving aggressively, slow down and give them room to pass. Do not respond with obscene gestures or equally hostile actions. If you inadvertently cut off another driver, try to apologize by making a suitable hand gesture.
If you feel you’re in danger because of another driver’s actions, use a cell phone to call police or drive to a police station if there’s one within proximity to get law enforcement involved. Never exit your vehicle to confront the other person if you’re at a traffic signal or are otherwise stopped.
According to transportation data supplier INRIX , those taking to the road for the last holiday weekend of summer should avoid the afternoon and early evening hours of Thursday and Friday, as those times will be the most congested and most likely to set off motorists with quick fuses. Mornings are usually the best times to hit the road except for Saturday when it’s a better choice to depart by car in the afternoon. The firm’s data also shows that those headed back home on Sunday and on Labor Day itself should leave as early as possible to avoid what’s assured to be dense congestion in the afternoon.
Let’s all take it easy out there and stay safe – especially with sizzling temperatures in many parts of the country – to celebrate many more Labor Day weekends down the road.

These tools can help you avoid bad weather on your next road trip
Google Maps and Waze can help you beat the traffic, but you may want to look elsewhere for help navigating around the weather.
Weather is often top of mind for drivers, and for good reason. On average, weather contributes to more than 1 million vehicle crashes in the United States each year, according to the Department of Transportation . Yet the two most popular navigation apps — Waze and Google Maps — don’t allow you to visualize or reroute around high-impact weather.
A recently filed patent suggests that Google Maps could someday factor weather into its routing system. Until then, there are several websites and apps that aim to fill that void. One of them, created by meteorologist and retired Navy rear admiral David Titley, is targeting drivers of recreational vehicles, or RVs, with a new feature that helps them avoid dangerous weather.
RVs remain a popular form of transportation — despite sales having slowed after surging during the pandemic — with more than 300,000 shipments from manufacturers to dealers every year since 2013. RVs are particularly risky places to be during severe weather, as they can be easily flipped by strong winds or swept away by floodwaters.
Last month, an RV driver died after being found in a remote area of Peoria County, Ill., where storms had recently passed through, according to the county sheriff . Tornadoes have damaged or destroyed RV parks in Indiana , Florida , Texas and Ohio this year.
Titley co-founded the website RV Weather after experiencing firsthand how weather can affect RVs while towing one 10,000 miles over six months in 2019.
“One of the things you learn is, it’s a whole lot different than driving your Subaru,” said Titley, whose RV measured more than 50 feet long and weighed 20,000 pounds. “The crosswinds you really feel. On snow-covered roads, you don’t stop very well. RVs are really sensitive to severe weather.”
RV Weather’s newest feature, called SureRoute, recommends routes to RV drivers that avoid adverse weather while getting them to their destination as quickly as possible. Drivers enter their starting point, their destination, the time of day and the number of hours they are willing to drive, their maximum driving speed, and their highest acceptable weather-risk level on a scale of 0 to 5.
Each risk level aggregates multiple weather impacts. For example, Level 1 includes a gusty breeze; light rain, snow or ice; heat index above 105 or wind chill below minus-10; or isolated thunderstorms. Level 5 is the most extreme, with impacts including hurricane-force wind gusts; heavy rain, snow or ice; heat index above 130 or below minus-50; or the likelihood of intense, destructive thunderstorms.
Based on weather-model forecast data, RV Weather generates a route recommendation that includes suggestions on where and when to stop overnight, or even briefly during the day, to avoid weather exceeding the acceptable risk level. You can view the recommended route on a map and see the expected weather and impact levels along the route.
“Within about a minute or two, you get a route that will both conform to your driving preferences and keep you out of the level of impact that you” wanted to stay below, Titley said.
Access to SureRoute and additional features costs $14.99 a month after a free seven-day trial. While RV drivers are the primary target for now, Titley says the tool can be useful for drivers of any type of vehicle.
Other tools that can help drivers maneuver around bad weather include:
Weather on the Way
Weather on the Way is a mobile app that displays current radar and the predicted weather along your planned route, including how they differ for different departure times. It also offers alternative routes with better weather.
“Since our app is iOS only, we can focus exclusively on that platform,” said Piotr Knapczyk, the app’s developer. “For example, with CarPlay integration, users can check the weather radar and forecast right on their car dashboard.”
Drive Weather
Drive Weather is available in the Apple and Google Play app stores. It displays radar and expected weather along your route, including how they differ for different departure times. You can compare predicted weather along multiple routes, estimate how long it will take for the weather to clear, and factor in your planned driving speed.
Highway Weather
Highway Weather , available in the Apple and Google Play app stores, displays current radar and predicted weather along your planned route, including how they change for different departure times. It can factor in your planned driving speed, recommend the best time to start your trip, provide access to traffic cameras along your route, and alert you about upcoming weather while on the road.
The popular weather radar app MyRadar became available on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto this year. Drivers can view radar along their route and have access to the RouteCast feature.
RouteCast “is designed to calculate drive times by integrating weather forecasts and road condition data. It provides information such as road temperature, crosswind alerts and surface condition hazard classes along the route,” according to a news release. “Updates are generated every 15 minutes, and the Timetable feature suggests optimal departure times based on expected weather.”
YourCast takes a different approach. Drivers email details of their planned road trip and, in return, receive a detailed forecast, safety recommendations, optimal travel times and alternate routes prepared by a human meteorologist.
“By their nature, apps will have a constantly changing forecast and are prone to error without human touch. We fill a void left by the automated, computer-generated apps in the space,” said YourCast CEO Jaimee Eachus. “Of course, all of this requires a bit more turnaround time since our chief meteorologist creates each YourCast individually, so anyone interested should plan on giving us a day or two heads-up so we can help.”

7 Last-Minute Escapes for Labor Day Weekend
If you’re still hoping to stretch out the last days of summer, there are places in North America that are not too hot, not too crowded and not necessarily that far away.
By Shannon Sims
It might sound like an impossible request: a last-minute Labor Day getaway with gorgeous weather and minimal crowds that you can squeeze into a long weekend. There are good reasons many destinations across North America won’t fit the bill. Wildfires are burning in some parts of the West, tropical disturbances are brewing in the Caribbean, the East Coast’s coastal retreats are packed, and much of the South is sweaty and oh so steamy. But if you’re still hoping to stretch out the last days of summer, there are places that are not too hot, not too crowded and not necessarily that far away.
Here are seven inspirations in North America for a Labor Day getaway.
North Carolina
Hike to magical waterfalls
Less than an hour’s drive from downtown Asheville, N.C., and covering 500,000-plus acres, Pisgah National Forest is a magical place to be immersed in nature. American goldfinches and Carolina chickadees sing high above waterfalls framed by lush green trees, and babbling streams pour down moss-covered rocks hiding salamanders, newts and crayfish.
During the summer, these wooded areas are chock-full of children at summer camp, and the trails are often busy with hikers. But by Labor Day, most of the kids have returned home, while the weather is often perfect, with average temperatures in the seventies. You have your pick of activities — bird-watching, fly fishing, waterfall dousing and hiking.
Easy trails can be found at the North Carolina Arboretum , but for a shaded, moderate hike to a waterfall in which you can douse, check out Catawba Falls Trail . For another moderate hike (but no swimming), there is Linville Gorge and Falls , nicknamed the Grand Canyon of the Southern Appalachians. Advanced hikers can summit the 6,684-foot Mount Mitchell , the highest peak in the Eastern United States, in Mount Mitchell State Park, which is surrounded by Pisgah Forest.
Later, make your way back to Asheville , where a robust restaurant and brewery scene offers a perfect setting for sharing stories of your day. Local favorites include Cúrate for upscale tapas, Chai Pani for Indian food and Wicked Weed Brewing for hoppy deliciousness.
See San Francisco’s best-loved sights
“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco,” may be a clichéd phrase, but anyone who has visited this California city during the summer most likely experienced fog, dank air and brisk wind. But September and October are San Francisco’s warmest and brightest months of the year.
A long weekend is just enough for first timers to sample the city’s best-known attractions. Walk or bike across the Golden Gate Bridge . Board a cable car as it clangs up and down the city’s hills. Explore Alcatraz Island on a three-hour tour (book ahead). Take in the Fisherman’s Wharf area, which may be less chaotic with many children back in school. Watch a home game of the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park , right on the bay. Or check out the Presidio Tunnel Tops , a newly developed stretch of national park land featuring stunning panoramic views.
The city is a particularly special destination for those interested in L.G.B.T.Q. history. The GLBT Historical Society Museum , nicknamed the Queer Smithsonian, is a good place to start, as is a stroll through the Castro neighborhood or a stop at the Castro’s first gay bar, opened in 1963 as the Missouri Mule (now called Beaux).
Swim, fish, boat, then sip, at the Finger Lakes
One of the largest Finger Lakes in upstate New York, Keuka Lake stretches about 20 miles and draws visitors with clear-water swimming, paddling, kayaking and fishing. Labor Day marks the end of its high summer season.
Visitors can use picnic tables, playgrounds and swimming areas off sandy beaches at Keuka Lake State Park near Branchport or Red Jacket Park in the village of Penn Yan, on the lake’s northern end.
On its southern shores, the charming village of Hammondsport has cafes, shops and restaurants, many of which are clustered around the Pulteney Square Historic District .
Fishing is a big draw, with brown trout, yellow perch and more inhabiting the lake’s deep waters. You can buy your own fishing equipment at Jake’s Boat Livery , or get the professionals to do it by chartering a fishing expedition through Summit to Stream Adventures .
Don’t forget the wine: 20 vineyards are scattered around the lakeshore, with six part of the Keuka Lake Wine Trail . You can visit most wineries on your own or with a tour.
Keuka Lake is a one- to two-hour drive from airports in Rochester, Ithaca, Syracuse or Buffalo. The lake is about a five-hour drive from New York City.
Soak your stress away in alpine splendor
During Labor Day weekend, the I-70 corridor that connects Denver to the ski towns to the west, like Winter Park, Keystone and Breckenridge, can be bumper to bumper, especially getting back on Monday.
But nestled in the San Juan Mountains, about an hour’s drive from Telluride, is Ouray, an often overlooked gem for outdoor fun. Sure, there’s great hiking and canyoning, but there aren’t many towns where you can stroll down Main Street and stop into a boutique for shopping, a cafe for coffee and a hot springs for soaking. Ouray Hot Springs Pool is sulfur-free — in other words, no rotten-egg stink — and offers not just one pool but many: The family-friendly pools feature water slides, a volleyball net and a rolling log, while the adults-only soaking section is kept between 102 and 106 degrees.
Montrose Regional Airport , about an hour’s drive from Ouray, has direct flights to Chicago, Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth and Denver.
Sample delicious urban delights
You won’t scratch the surface of what Mexico City offers in a long weekend, so consider tossing away those checklists and instead soak up the atmosphere in one or two neighborhoods.
Start by signing up for the city’s bike share app, Ecobici , for an easy way to get around town. The Roma neighborhood, a favorite among travelers, has shaded, walkable streets; inviting plazas; and some of the city’s best restaurants. For a neighborhood with a tad fewer tourists, try La Condesa , a short bike ride from Roma and between the two lovely green spaces called Bosque de Chapultepec and Parque México . Shopaholics should visit Polanco , where the commercial thoroughfare Presidente Masaryk Avenue offers luxury stores.
Whichever neighborhood you pick to explore, you’ll be delighted by the quality and flavors of food offered at the city’s restaurants, food carts and 11,000-plus taco shops. Even if a corner spot looks shabby, it might be producing food that could rank among the best bites you’ve ever had. Look no further than Taquería El Califa de León, an unassuming taco stand that won a Michelin star this year , as an example of the culinary magic that lies around any given corner.
Nova Scotia
Time-travel in a 1700s fishing village
About 62 miles southwest of downtown Halifax along Nova Scotia’s South Shore, breezy Lunenburg is a fishing village with charm — and fresh seafood — to spare.
Old Town Lunenburg is considered by UNESCO as the best surviving example of a planned British colonial settlement in North America. Its colorful homes face tall ships moored in the harbor, transporting visitors back to the 1700s. Stroll around the area on your own, popping into local shops and restaurants, or sign up for a walking tour .
At the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic , part of the Nova Scotia Museum , you can experience what life was like in a fishing village throughout the centuries, from early Mi’kmaq communities to the arrival of Black Loyalists in 1783 to today. The museum is housed in an old fish processing plant, and the Old Fish Factory Restaurant now serves Nova Scotia lobster rolls on a wharf-side patio.
Fresh lobster is available year-round in Nova Scotia, so check out some stops on the Nova Scotia Lobster Trail . But don’t forget much of the Atlantic’s bounty: mussels, scallops, halibut, Arctic char, cod — even a seaweed called dulse — can be found on local menus.
Roam and ride in the sand dunes
The Great Lakes were made for summer, but the challenge is finding a spot that isn’t too crowded. Silver Lake Sand Dunes is a destination even many Michiganders don’t know about.
Located an hour-and-a-half drive from Grand Rapids on Lake Michigan’s eastern coastline, the dunes comprise 2,000 acres and are part of Silver Lake State Park. Even though they are situated in the heart of the United States, the dunes will make you feel as if you’re roaming the sands of Arabia.
Activities at the park include swimming, canoeing and horseback riding along the beach, or hiking through the surrounding evergreen forests.
But a classic way to explore the dunes is through Mac Wood’s Dune Rides , a local company that for nearly a century has been taking visitors in open-top trucks for thrilling and informative rides through the sand.
While in the area, be sure to visit the Little Sable Point Lighthouse , an 1874 tower that was made more accessible to the public in 2010. Climb the tower and take in the lake, forests and dunes below.

An earlier version of this story included a photo caption that misstated the location of the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. It is in Centro district, not Polanco. It also misstated the location of the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. The dunes are on Lake Michigan’s eastern coastline, not western.

The Best Kwik Trip Food for Road Trips
Kwik Trip is the best gas station in America. Yep, I said it. The very best. From the Kwik Trip food options to the kind employees and clean facilities, it’s always a great place to stop. Not to mention, always a wonderful customer experience.
And when you’re on a long drive, Kwik Trip stores offer everything you need. Especially when it comes to food. Hot, real food; not those shriveled-up hot dogs that have been sitting there for hours. We’re talking donuts from their own bakery. Snacks on snacks whether you’re looking to indulge or remain healthy. Even a grocery store section with fresh produce!
Kwik Trip foods are perfect for your road trips and vacations across the Midwest.
Note: Kwik Trip is Wisconsin’s favorite gas station so you are going to find them ALL OVER Wisconsin. There are also plenty throughout Minnesota. And a few in Illinois and small towns of Upper Michigan as they start to expand!
Let’s get into all of the best Kwik Trip food options:
The glazer — a kwik trip staple.
Did you know Kwik Trip owns its own bakery in La Crosse, Wisconsin? YEP. Which means their baked goods are some of the best. Enter: The Glazer. Perhaps the most exciting breakfast, snack, dinner (whatever!) at Kwik Trip.
The Glazer Donut is fresh, fluffy, sweet, and only $0.99. Grab the plain (my personal favorite), chocolate-drizzled, or white-drizzled, and savor every bite of the vanilla-glazed goodness!
- Approximately 24,000 donuts are created in just one hour!
- There is a glazer-scented candle. (Obviously, it smells good lol.)
- The Glazer originated in 2003 and was named by a Kwik Trip employee who submitted the idea to the marketing department.
WOW. Quite the section dedicated to a donut. Try one if you haven’t! It’s worth every calorie.
Pro Tip: Pair with a Karuba Coffee.
Their Karuba Gold machines will make all of your favorites; Lattes, Mochas, Chai Tea, Americanos, Iced Coffee, Hot Chocolate, and so much more. There are flavored syrups, the same ones as your favorite coffee shops, so you can be your own barista. And to finish it off perfectly, add whip cream, drizzle, and toppings. Not only can you make it exactly how you like it, but you’ll save some money!
Kwik Trip Burritos
One of my favorite things about Kwik Trip food is their hot options. It’s not your average (gross) gas station food. It’s actual real food and always hits the spot. And the burritos…oh man, the burritos. They are my favorite Kwik Trip purchase. Even more than the Glazer…
- Beef & Bean Burrito: The ultimate option. But rare. If this is available, grab it!
- Chicken Salsa Rice Burrito: Very delish. My second favorite. Beef wins through because the flavor in this one has a hint of sweetness.
- Sausage Breakfast Burrito: Solid. My only complaint is the liquid cheese. Still good though.
- Pizza Burrito: If I’ve had too many beers, I really like this one. Lol.
Kwik Trip Chicken Sandwiches
No burritos? That’s all right. Because chicken sandwiches are always available. Go with the regular or spicy and you will never be disappointed. Grab two then head over to the condiments and doctor them up. Lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard, whatever you like is there to make your meal a little more hearty!
Kwik Trip Brand Chips
Love Doritos? Grab the Kwik Trip brand version —for cheaper! There’s also sour cream and onion, tortilla, or potato. They are always fresh and go perfectly with your chicken sandwich! (Ask my husband, this meal is a delicacy…)
Omg if there’s anything I literally cannot deny myself, it’s these damn egg rolls. Every snack, lunch, or dinner I get from Kwik Trip includes an egg roll. Chicken sandwich with an egg roll. Salad with an egg roll. Donut with an egg roll. It really doesn’t matter lol. All flavors are delicious. And they are always a hot and a fresh food option!
Kwik Trip Ice Cream
Kwik Trip ice cream is all made with local milk and tastes just like the expensive stuff. Plus, you can get them pint-size. Number One Pro Tip: if you love Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked (I mean, who doesn’t?) then you need to opt for the pint-size of Brookie Dough Ice Cream. Omg. I was expecting a decent substitution hack, but my goodness it’s exact. Get your fix at Kwik Trip for $2.75 vs. a $5+ pint of Ben & Jerry’s.
Keep It Healthy with Kwik Trip Snacks
Sometimes you’re coming home after a road trip full of beers and unhealthy food and you are craving something that your body actually appreciates. And believe it or not, you can make healthy choices, even when you make a gas station stop. Another reason why I love Kwik Trip is the partnership for a Healthier America. Here are some healthy food product options:
Bento Boxes & Fresh Fruit
Fruits, cheeses, peanut butter, nuts. Kwik Trip food includes a variety of bento boxes that give you the perfect road trip snack when you aren’t about chasing empty calories. And right next to those, you’ll find the perfect-sized fruit cups. Watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, strawberries, you have all of the options! And it’s always fresh.
Perfect Bars
My favorite healthy snack—whether I am at Kwik Trip or not. These bars are made from whole foods only and without natural flavors. They have a variety of options and the best is the Dark Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter. The best part? They really do fill you up with 15 grams of protein.
Prepared Salads
One of my go-to’s when I need some easy vegetables! There are a variety of salad options with fresh lettuce and toppings that come in a separate compartment—perfect if you want to leave something out. My go-to is the chicken supreme!
Kwik Trip Drinks
- Chocolate Milk: Honestly, I’m not a huge chocolate milk drinker but it seems to be extremely popular with the Kwik Trip community (yes, there is a community ha) and is very affordable!
- Smoothies: Stop by the self-serve Fresh Blender machine. Create your own smoothie through a touchscreen menu. The kids love it!
- Flavored Water: Kwik Trip carries Vita Ice which is a staple for my husband and must-grab for flavored water fanatics.
- Karuba Coffee: You know this one already!
- Beer & Wine: If you’re in Wisconsin, make your alochol purchases at Kwik Trip. If you’re in Minnesota, they still need to get with the program. (Don’t drink and drive ;))
More Kwik Trip Foods:
- Pizza: They always have great options by the slice. And sometimes there are insane deals on full pizzas you can’t pass up! Plus, they have take and bake pizzas as well.
- Croissant Breakfast Sandwich: People swear by these! The egg and cheese croissant sammy’s are pretty big and a little much for me in the morning, but if this is your type of thing, you’ll love it.
- Cake Donuts and Scotcheroos: I mentioned the Glazer but there are other top-notch sweet treats to check out at Kwik Trip. (Pro Tip: go for one of these top 3 items vs. a cookie.)
- Fried Chicken and Chicken Tenders: Take care of the whole family with one purchase! Their boxes of chicken are a hit.
Pro Tip: Kwik Trip Take Home Meals
The last thing you want to do when you get home from a road trip is cook! Lucky for you, Kwik Trip has a variety of meal options that include Kitchen Cravings take home meals that are ready to eat as soon as you walk in the door.
- Spicy Chicken Penne
- Macaroni and Cheese + Chicken Bacon Mac and Cheese
- Grilled Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo
- Spaghetti and Meatballs
- BBQ Baby Back Ribs
- Roasted Turkey Dinner with Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
- Homemade Soups
- Burritos with Rice
- Beef Stroganoff
- Chicken, Rice, and Broccoli
- And they are always adding more!
Another Bonus: Kwik Trip Grocery
Kwik Trip is a low-key grocery store. When returning home from a trip, we typically don’t have much in the fridge. But at your convenience, you’ll find milk, eggs, cheese, avocados, meats, pizza, and more at every Kwik Trip. Stock up on a few staples at a great price to buy yourself some time before the big grocery store!
The Beauty of Kwik Trip
Who knew a convenience store chain could be such a game-changer lol? The gas stations’ quality food options, whether you want a full meal, snack, or groceries, are bar none. And Kwik Trip stores go above and beyond with all their other amenities—staff, clean bathrooms, rewards program with fuel discounts, new and improved products frequently, the list goes on and on. Show me a better gas station in the United States. You can’t.
Next time you are heading to Duluth, Minnesota , Eau Claire, Wisconsin, or the Upper Peninsula , make sure a Kwik Trip location is included in your travel stops!
What Kwik Trip Food did I miss? What’s Your Favorite?
See ya next time. 😉.
Did this post help you out? Support the work and pass along $5 for a couple burritos 😉 VENMO: @Amber-LBB or PAYPAL: [email protected]. THANK YOU.

Kwik Trip bought 151 acres in Dane County for a new distribution center, near future Buc-ee's
Wisconsin's fan-favorite gas station and convenience store chain Kwik Trip is expanding again.
Earlier this week, Kwik Trip completed a transaction to purchase 151 acres of empty farmland in the village of DeForest in northern Dane County, DeForest village administrator Bill Chang said. The land, in the southwest quadrant of the intersection between Highways 51 and 19, was purchased for $14.1 million, the Wisconsin State Journal reported .
Sixty acres will be developed into a satellite distribution center and fleet services center for Kwik Trip, Chang said. These facilities will serve about 350 Kwik Trip stores in southern Wisconsin. The distribution center and the fleet services center are each expected to bring 200 jobs to DeForest, Chang said, for a total of 400.
"We're excited to see such a strong company come to DeForest," he continued.
The remaining 91 acres will be set aside for future development, Chang added. The DeForest distribution center will be Kwik Trip's first outside of La Crosse , where the company is headquartered. Currently, more than 80% of the products sold in Kwik Trip stores are supplied by the company's La Crosse-based food production and distribution operations.
Chang said groundbreaking on the DeForest site will likely occur this spring or summer, but the project won't be complete for at least a year and a half. The village will have a lot to do to prepare for the distribution center's arrival.
"There will be improvements that will be necessary along the highways to ensure that (Kwik Trip's) traffic is addressed ... including intersection improvements and widening of the local road leading to the site," Chang said. "In the site itself, there will need to be an internal road network."
When reached for comment, Kwik Trip said it's "still doing (its) due diligence on the property," and does not have any specific details to share at this time.
DeForest's future Kwik Trip distribution center will be less than 10 minutes from Buc-ee's
Kwik Trip isn't the only hugely popular gas station and convenience store chain making a mark on DeForest in the coming years. The Texas-based chain Buc-ee's plans to build one of Wisconsin's largest gas stations in the village, northwest of the Interstate 39/90/94 and Highway V interchange.
Though the Kwik Trip distribution center site is less than 10 minutes from the proposed Buc-ee's site, Chang said neither business's expansion plans will be affected by the other.
Kwik Trip continues to expand throughout Wisconsin
The DeForest project is part of a $151 million business expansion Kwik Trip announced late last year that is expected to create more than 500 jobs by 2027.
In La Crosse, this has included a completed expansion of Kwik Trip's burrito production line, a new 40-foot production line for Dunkers and cake doughnuts, a cooler expansion in the dairy and additional packaging automation in the sweets bakery.
Kwik Trip is also renovating an office building in Onalaska, which will house training, accounting and operations support, including a 24/7 helpline for the stores.
Kwik Trip operates over 800 stores in the Midwest, including more than 500 in Wisconsin. It plans to continue adding about 50 new stores every year.
Journal Sentinel reporter Karl Ebert contributed to this report.
