Group of travellers and Intrepid leader look over Ait Benhaddou

When people throw around the word ‘remarkable’, they’re probably referring to places like Morocco.

In a place where riding a camel over dunes at sunset is not unusual, where tagines spiked with saffron perfume the air and Amazigh people herd goats on the slopes of the High Atlas Mountains, the word remarkable just doesn't cut it. Whether you're wandering the wind-battered port town of Essaouira, exploring the famous Kasbah in Aït Benhaddou or sleeping beneath the Saharan stars , a healthy does of Maghreb hospitality will make a Morocco tour truly unforgettable.

Best time to visit morocco.

The climate in Morocco varies wildly according to the season and area of travel. In the lowlands, the cooler months from October to April are popular among visitors. This time of year is pleasantly warm to hot (around 86°F) during the day and cool to cold (around 59°F) at night. Winter in the higher regions often brings snow and can therefore get seriously cold, particularly at night. Tourists flock to the coastline from June to September for fun in the sun, with warm mostly rain-free days. Further inland it can get hot and rain is rare, which makes the best times to travel March to June and September to December. As a Muslim country, Morocco observes Ramadan. If you are planning to go on holiday in Morocco during Ramadan, it is important to consider that many restaurants and shops will either be closed or operating at reduced hours during this time.

Culture and customs

Morocco's culture has developed over centuries of influence from far and wide. Contemporary Morocco is a fascinating mix of Berber, Mediterranean, Andalucian and African traditions, which are present in the cuisine, clothing, music, language, customs and lifestyle. As an Islamic country, most Moroccans are Muslim; however, there are small populations of people who practice Judaism and Christianity. Classic examples of Islamic architecture can be observed all throughout the country and tenets of the Islamic religion are carried out in the customs and lives of the people. The 'Call to Prayer' can be heard five times a day, women are expected to dress modestly and alcohol isn't drunk by most of the population.

Most of Moroccan society can be considered traditional, with respect for elders, connection to family, and giving alms to the poor hallmarks of everyday life for many Moroccans. Hospitality is another important element of society, with warmly welcoming people into your home a time-honored tradition and social responsibility that dates back centuries.

Eating and drinking

Intrepid believes that one of the best ways to experience a country is by eating! Whether you're sampling street food, savoring a cheap eat, or indulging in a banquet, there are endless options to choose from wherever you are in the world.

Believe the hype - Moroccan food is legendary.

Things to try in Morocco

These slow-cooked stews are synonymous with Moroccan cooking. Chicken, olive, and citrus are well-known favorites, but there are endless variations using different meats, vegetables, and seasonings.

2. Couscous

Forget instant cous cous and try the real deal in Morocco. Often served with vegetables and meat, regional varieties sometimes also include everything from sweet raisins to spicy harissa or smoky almonds.

3. Fresh fruit

Morocco has an amazing array of fruit available in the markets, shops, and juice bars. Choose from bananas, mangoes, oranges, avocados, or peaches - eat fresh or get them whipped up in a juice.

4. Mint tea

While traveling through Morocco you'll probably drink more sweet mint tea than ever before. Offered as a gesture of hospitality when visiting someone's home or shop, it's considered impolite to refuse, so accept graciously.

Geography and environment

Located in North Africa, Morocco has the best of many worlds within its boundaries. From the sun-drenched beaches of the coast to the sands of the mighty Sahara and the snowy peaks of the High Atlas and Rif Mountains, Morocco has great variety in its landscapes and terrain. This combination of desert, woodlands, forest, mountain steppe, and grasslands ensures a wide diversity of flora and fauna lives within the country.

History and government

Early history.

The land now known as Morocco has been inhabited for centuries, with Moroccan civilization being known for its richness in history and culture. Centuries of foreign trade, invasion, and dynastic rule have given Morocco many different cultural influences that are evident in today's society. From the Phoenicians who entered Morocco via the Mediterranean in the 6th century BC, to the Roman influence of 40 AD and the formation of Islamic Morocco in the years after, Morocco has evolved with the rise and fall of dynasties, formation and dissolution of empires and the birth of new governments, movements, and ways of living. Reaching its height under the Berber Dynasties of the 11th and 12th centuries (the Almoravids, Almohads, Marinids, and Wattasids), Morocco subsequently fell to Arab tribes in 1559. The current royal family are descendants of the Alaouite Dynasty who have largely ruled since the 1600s, despite enduring a few crises in the 18th and 19th centuries, mainly in relation to European influence in the area and surrounding countries.

Recent history

With the signing of the Treaty of Fez, Morocco was declared a protectorate of France in 1912 with Spain being allocated control of parts of Morocco, mainly in the north and south. European control was generally opposed by Moroccan citizens, with the people of Rif attempting to establish a separatist republic in 1921. Decades of opposition continued, with rioting and protests leading to increased political tension. In 1955, the road to Moroccan independence was paved by Mohammed V who negotiated reforms and the restoration of independence. By 1956, France had relinquished its protectorate of Morocco and in 1957, Mohammed V became king. In 1961, Hassan II assumed the title of King of Morocco and continued to rule until his death in 1999. His son, Mohammed VI, took over the mantle of king in 1999 and continues to rule today.

Top places to see in Morocco

1. marrakech.

Things just happen in Marrakech. One moment you're sitting down to a camel burger, the next you're chatting with a snake charmer. The labyrinthine markets are the perfect place to lose yourself but find a Moroccan memento or three.

The endless dunes of the Sahara will call to your inner explorer. Jump on a camel and start riding out over the sandy waves. At sunset, the desert glows rich and red and at night the stars turn the sky crystal.

The desert is calling! Add a  3 day Sahara Mini Adventure  to your Morocco trip itinerary.

3. Essaouira

The name 'Essaouira' means image, appropriate since its charm is undeniable. Within the stone ramparts, you'll find art galleries, wood workshops and whitewashed houses with bright blue shutters. Portuguese, British and Jewish influences all mingle in this artist's town.

Explore this windswept coastal city on our  11 day Premium Morocco Highlights with Essaouira trip,  or make it a quick journey on our  Five Days in Morocco tour.

Fes is the cultural heart of Morocco and home to some of its most iconic sights. Feel every sense come alive in the medina. Shops, dye pits and mosques all vie for space and you're as likely to see a donkey as a car.

5. High Atlas Mountains

The mountains are best explored at the ground level by foot or bicycle. Travel through Amazigh villages, up along crop terraces, down through lush valleys and past orchards, goats and Moroccan rural life. The seriously fit can tackle Mount Toubkal for incredible views.

Join a  7 day Mount Toubkal Trek  or a  Mount Toubkal Long Weekend Trek  for those short on time.

6. Todra Gorge

This is a rock climber's heaven or the ideal place for beginners to get a taste. It's a tight squeeze in some places but a sparkling river, the odd palmeraie, Berber villages and high cliff walls make it worth breathing in for.

7. Moulay Idriss

The small Medina of ancient Moulay Idriss was once forbidden to non-Muslims. Now it is a pleasure to explore as the faithful gather to pay homage to the founding father of Islam in Morocco at the 8th-century mausoleum.

8. Ait Benhaddou

Perfectly preserved, this is one of Morocco's most picturesque kasbahs. Centuries ago it was a stop for caravans as they carried salt across the Sahara. Today, it is inhabited only by a handful of families and the odd film crew.

Visit Ait Benhaddou on our  8 day Classic Morocco tour .

9. Casablanca

The very name conjures up images of war-time romance. But the real romance of Casablanca must be its French influences and the beautiful Hassan II mosque, the largest in Morocco.

10. Volubilis

Do some time travel and visit the ancient hilltop city of Volubilis, one of the Roman Empire's most remote bases. The ruins here are beautifully preserved and it's easy to believe you've stepped into the 2nd or 3rd century.

Rabat is Morocco's lively capital. Its history is long and colorful, having been host to Roman settlements, pirates, and more recently the Moroccan parliament. Stroll through the old quarter or enjoy views over the Atlantic Ocean from Kasbah des Oudaias.

12. Chefchaouen

You might recognize this city from the famous photos of its bright blue buildings. Set against a wide valley and tucked between two peaks in the Rif Mountains, much of Chefchaouen was recreated by Andalusian refugees escaping the Reconquista, so it might remind you of the hills of Spain.

Get a chance to wander around this striking blue city on our  18 day Morocco Encompassed tour .

13. Tangier

The coastal town of Tangier is the gateway between the Mediterranean and Africa. Enjoy fresh seafood by the port, watch the sunset over the Atlantic or visit the Caves of Hercules.

Explore the Gateway to Africa on our  9 day North Morocco Adventure.

Morocco has one of the oldest retail cultures in the world. From bargaining in age-old souqs to swiping your credit card at a modern gallery, it's all possible in Morocco. But to experience brilliant bargains, exciting finds, and a dose of history, you can't go past the souqs.

It's a good idea to check with your local customs officials to ensure that you are able to bring certain items back into your home country.   Australia   and New Zealand generally have strict quarantine laws.

Things to buy in Morocco

1. Silver jewelry

Jewelry fiends will love Morocco's affinity with silver jewelry. Chunky rings, elaborate necklaces, and patterned earrings can all be found for great prices, especially if you're willing to haggle.

Save room in your backpack for an iconic silver teapot and some delicate tea glasses. Morocco's silversmiths have this ancient art running through their veins, with centuries of craftsmanship being passed from generation to generation.

The quality (and price) of leather in Morocco is pretty phenomenal. Handcrafted handbags, wallets, belts, and purses can be found in almost every souq around the country.

Festivals and events

Ramadan and eid.

The ninth and holiest of months in the Islamic calendar, Ramadan is observed by most in Morocco and is thought to be a time of spiritual rejuvenation. For this month, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset - refraining from eating and drinking during daylight hours. Eid marks the end of fasting with 3 days of feasting and celebration.

Gnaoua World Music Festival

Seaside Essaouira hosts this world-famous festival that celebrates the mysterious music of the Gnaouas, brought to Morocco centuries ago via the African slave trade. Jazz, rock, blues, and pop music add a contemporary flavor, although the drums of the Gnaouas are the true soul of the festival.

Casablanca Festival

Touted as a 'celebration of all things Moroccan', this annual festival includes local and international music performances, dance, art installations, theatre, workshops, and street parades. This fusion of history and modernity, innovation and tradition is a shining example of what it means to be a citizen of cosmopolitan Casablanca.

While tipping isn't mandatory in Morocco, rounding up the bill and leaving spare change at restaurants and cafes is generally standard practice. Taxi drivers and porters will also accept tips, 10 dirhams is usually sufficient in this case.

What is the internet access like in Morocco?

Morocco's cities have internet access available in internet cafes and hotel lobbies. In some cases, free Wi-Fi can be accessed in public places. Less internet access is available in rural areas, so be prepared to 'disconnect' when traveling out of Morocco's big cities.

Can I use my cell phone in Morocco?

Cell phone coverage is generally very good in Morocco's cities and metropolitan areas, although coverage can be limited in remote or mountainous areas. Ensure you have global roaming activated with your carrier if you wish to use your phone while in Morocco.

Morocco's toilets are a mixture of modern flushable toilets and squat toilets, so be prepared to encounter both. Carry your own supply of toilet paper and soap, as these aren't always provided.

Is Morocco a safe destination for LGBTQIA+ travelers?

We recommend LGBTQIA+ travelers exercise discretion when traveling in Morocco as homosexuality is not widely accepted in the community. Homosexual acts (including kissing) are illegal in Morocco and can attract a fine or even a jail sentence for offenders. That said, some towns (such as Marrakech and Tangier) are considered more gay-friendly than others. As long as travelers use discretion and avoid public displays of affection, travel in Morocco should not be a problem.

For more detailed and up-to-date advice, we recommend visiting  Equaldex  or   ILGA  before you travel.

If you are traveling solo on an Intrepid group tour, you will share accommodation with a passenger of the same gender as per your passport information. If you don’t identify with the gender assigned on your passport, please let us know at the time of booking and we’ll arrange the rooming configuration accordingly. A single supplement is available on some tours for travelers who do not wish to share a room.

What should I wear in Morocco?

While Moroccan days are generally mild-to-hot or hot-and-humid, they can give way to cooler nights – outside of the summer months, anyway. Packing layers and sensible footwear to deal with Morocco's changeable climate, uneven paths and conservative culture is always a good idea.

F emale travelers aren't expected to dress as conservatively as local women, but it’s still a good idea to pack clothing options that will allow you to cover up.

How will I get around Morocco?

Intrepid believes half the fun of experiencing a new country is getting there, and getting around once there! Where possible, Intrepid uses local transport options and traditional modes of transport - which usually carry less of an environmental impact, support small local operators and are heaps more fun.

Depending on which trip you're on while in Morocco, you may find yourself traveling by:

Board an iconic ‘ship of the desert’ and amble off across desert sands for a quintessential Sahara experience.

Where will I stay in Morocco?

Traveling with Intrepid is a little bit different. We endeavor to provide travelers with an authentic experience to remember, so we try to keep accommodation as unique and traditional as possible.

When traveling with us in Morocco you may find yourself staying in a:

Admire beautiful arches and tiled mosaics while staying in a traditional Moroccan riad. The riad is the Moroccan traditional house, normally with two or more stories around an Andalusian-style courtyard that contained a fountain. Riads were the stately city homes of the wealthiest citizens such as merchants and courtiers.

Does my trip to Morocco support The Intrepid Foundation?

Yes, all Intrepid trips support the Intrepid Foundation. In fact, we make a donation on behalf of every traveler. Trips to Morocco directly support our foundation partners, Education For All and High Atlas Foundation. Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.

Travel Requirements For This Tour

Air Information and Luggage Restrictions

AIRFARE: Airfare to and from this destination is not included in the journey cost. If purchasing your air elsewhere, it is very important to provide us with your confirmed arriving and departing flight information no later than 3 weeks before your arrival date. Flight information can be submitted to Tauck (or verified, if you've already provided it) in the My Account section of Tauck.com.

TAUCK AIRPORT TRANSFERS are included at the start and end of the journey between the airport and the Tauck hotel. Airport transfers are available for any pre tour or post tour hotel stays immediately consecutive to the tour, providing flight information is received in the Tauck office no later than three weeks in advance. Details on locating your transfer upon arrival to the tour start city will be included in your final documents.

AIRLINES and CHECKED LUGGAGE: Due to space limitations during your Tauck journey, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one average-size suitcase per person. Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and are free to revise luggage policies without notice. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies. PLEASE NOTE that if you are booked on a tour that includes on-tour flights, the checked luggage weight restrictions for these flights may be lower than the weight restrictions for your international flights.

Checked Luggage – General

Due to space restrictions, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one suitcase per person weighing no more than 50 pounds (23 kg) and with overall dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 62 inches (158 cm).

Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and luggage exceeding airline standards for size or weight may result in expensive overage fees or other consequences.

Airlines are free to revise luggage policies without notice, and certain airlines have different baggage allowances for different classes of service. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies.

Tauck luggage tags will be provided by your Tauck Director on Day 1 of your itinerary. Please do not attach a Tauck luggage tag to any carry-on items, as the Tauck tags designate luggage that is to be handled and transferred by ground operators and hotel staff during your journey.

Carry-on Luggage - General

Although oversize bags and wheeled, carry-on luggage are popular for airline travel, they are often not convenient or appropriate for motor coach travel. Most modern sightseeing motor coaches offer limited space for numerous or larger items. Space under seats or in the overhead rack is typically small, and designed to accommodate items like coats, hats, purses, and small camera bags, etc.

For your day-to-day travel while on tour, we recommend that you limit your hand luggage to a small, soft-sided carry-on piece, and that you bring only those items you need handy during the day such as make-up, medications, cameras, film, etc. Items too large to fit under the motor coach seat or on the overhead rack must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach, and may be inaccessible during daytime travel.

Health, Safety and Mobility

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS

While drinking water is generally safe at all our hotels, bottled water will be available wherever the local water is not fit to drink. We also provide bottled water on the motor coaches.

Please check with your health insurance provider to determine whether you are covered while traveling. If you will not be covered under your current policy, we strongly suggest that you arrange for adequate coverage while on tour.

If you have a medical condition that might limit your participation in activities, please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice and notify us as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. We will advise your Tauck Director accordingly.

VACCINATIONS

If you are a resident of the U.S. traveling internationally, no vaccinations are currently required for travel to Morocco. For complete vaccination and inoculation information, contact your physician, the public health service in your area, or the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. The Travelers' Health Section of the CDC operates a 24-hour "Travelers' Health Hotline" at 800-232-4636 (toll-free in the U.S.). You may also log on to the CDC website by clicking here .

If you are a resident of another country traveling internationally , please contact an embassy or consulate of each of the countries on the itinerary to determine what vaccinations may be required for you to visit.

To enjoy this active tour, you should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances, often over unpaved and uneven surfaces. Some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot. The amount of walking you do, however, is at your discretion. We recommend that you pack sturdy, comfortable walking shoes that have already been broken-in to appreciate fully what Morocco has to offer.

Active components such as hiking, bicycling and walking longer distances may be included, and hills and/or uneven terrain may be encountered on several days. Guests should be able to walk two-to-three miles and stand for long periods of time with no difficulty. Your journey is moderately paced, and may include some early morning hotel departures and extended motorcoach travel.

PLEASE NOTE: We regret that this Tauck itinerary cannot accommodate wheelchairs or motorized scooters. Likewise, we regret that we're unable to provide individual assistance to guests with walking difficulties or other personal needs. The responsibility of the Tauck Director who accompanies your trip is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest. Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it.

SPECIAL DIETARY REQUESTS

The restaurants, hotels, caterers and numerous other partners we work with all do their best to accommodate special dietary requests from Tauck guests. However, given the diverse nature of those food providers (from small wineries to grand hotels to world-famous restaurants in more than 70 countries worldwide), some of our partners are better able than others to accommodate such requests. We therefore cannot guarantee that all dietary requests can be accommodated at every meal. Also, please note that where dietary requests can be accommodated, choices will frequently be limited.

Reading List

We have compiled a reading list of recommended books to give you more information about the destinations you will be traveling to on your upcoming journey!

You can view the reading list  here.

It's hot and sunny for most of the year in Morocco. During the peak summer months it gets uncomfortably hot especially in Marrakech, Fes and southwest Morocco. Rabat and Casablanca are a bit more comfortable in the peak of summer because they benefit from a cooler ocean breeze.

What To Pack

Your journey is designed with leisure in mind. Dress for comfort and convenience with a wardrobe that is adaptable and allows for layering. Generally, during the day, casual, comfortable, cotton clothing is recommended. Cool weather at higher elevations or at night will require warmer, layered clothing.

As Morocco is a Muslim country, dressing modestly will make both you and the people you meet on your travels more comfortable.  Generally this means covering the shoulders and knees.  Women will need to cover their hair only when we visit the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca.  Scarves will be provided on the tour.

We recommend that you pack an adequate supply of your prescription medication in its original container to last through your entire journey, together with a copy of your doctor's prescription or a letter from your health-care provider on office stationery explaining that the medication has been prescribed for you, a list of the generic names of your medication, your travel documents and a change of clothing in your carry-on bag to avoid any inconvenience in the event that your flight or luggage is delayed.

Following is a list of recommended items to pack for your journey to Morocco:

  • Cotton, cotton/synthetic and linen clothing
  • Light weight shirts, pants, capri pants and dresses
  • Light jacket or sweater
  • Jacket and tie and casually-elegant attire for fine dining
  • Comfortable walking shoes that will work well on uneven or cobblestone pavement
  • Shoes will only need to be removed when the tour visits the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca.  Please bring at least one pair of socks for this visit.
  • Hat (a wide brimmed hat is recommended)
  • Collapsible umbrella
  • Camera, lenses, batteries, memory cards and chargers
  • Soap leaves, travel packets of tissues, handkerchiefs and hand sanitizer
  • Travel alarm clock/cell phone with alarm function (many hotels do not have clocks in the rooms)
  • Copies of your travel documents that should be secured in the safe in your hotel room while traveling

Please refer to the Necessary Gear website at  www.necessarygear.com  as one option available to you for renting and purchasing apparel, PPEs, and other items appropriate for your journey.

"I love introducing our guests to the unique energy of Morocco, and I'll show you how to navigate the country, from haggling in the bazaars to meeting local Berber tribesmen in the desert"

Travel Director

Visit a traditional tannery

We’ll take you to the rows of round dye-pits in a traditional tannery, for a fascinating glimpse into Morocco’s ancient leather craft. You’ll learn about the treatment process and see the earthy colors made from natural products like saffron, cedar wood, indigo, mint and poppy flower.

Take a stroll through Marrakesh

A former imperial city known as the ‘Red City’, Marrakesh is filled with treasures. See Morocco’s largest traditional souk (market) where you can learn the art of haggling, visit the grand Bahia Palace, and soak up the energy of Djemaa el Fna Square in the Old Quarter, where you’ll find acrobats, camels and palm readers.

Enjoy a visit to the Royal Palace in Rabat

We’ll take you for a drive along the coast to the capital of Rabat, where our Local Specialists will reveal all the wonders of the city. Visit the 17th century Royal Palace, where the king of Morocco lives, and see the royal guards at the entrance, with flowerbeds, fountains and antique cannons.

Take in panoramic views of Dades Valley and Berber villages

Follow the route of a thousand kasbahs to the Dades Valley, where green oases and mudbrick homes are strewn across the dusty pink valley. We’ll travel into the Sahara to see the brilliant desert sunset and meet the local Berber tribesmen, before spending the night surrounded by the spectacular Atlas Mountains.

Wander around Fez

Connect with the symbolic heart of Morocco in Fez, the oldest imperial city in the country. Our Local Specialists will take you on a journey to the medina, one of the world’s largest thriving medieval centres, and you can see the royal palace, roam the vibrant alleyways, or relax in an ornate courtyard.

Our top 5 things to do in Morocco

Our Morocco holiday packages delve into the vivid culture of the country, with visits to a traditional tannery, the souks of Marrakesh, and the Berber villages of the Sahara.

Dar Si Said

Housed in a 19th century palace, Dar Si Said is a fantastic folklore museum in Marrakesh. You’ll discover Islamic architecture and artisan craftwork, including an Andalusian fountain basin that’s more than 1,000 years old. It’s also surrounded by several courtyards and gardens where you’ll find ornate stucco, tiled mosaics and carved wooden ceilings.

A former royal palace converted into a museum in 1915, Dar Batha was the first museum in Morocco. The beautiful building now contains around 6,000 collections of zellige tiles, embroidery, jewellery, coins, carved wood, carpets and a large collection of the famous cobalt-blue ceramics of Fez.

Mohammed VI Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art

Located in Rabat, this museum of contemporary and modern art contains an excellent collection of Moroccon and international art. It’s housed in a gleaming white building inspired by Arab-Moorish architecture, and you can see the works of 200 Moroccan artists including Ahmed Yacoubi and Hassan Hajjaj.

Best museums in Morocco

Our Morocco guided tours will reveal the country’s vivid culture and history through its museums, including a museum of Moroccan art and a former royal palace.

Tagine has been part of Moroccan culture for hundreds of years. It’s a delicious stew-like dish made of slow-cooked meat, like chicken or fish, and vegetables or fruit. The dish is named after the North African clay or ceramic pot in which the dish is cooked.

Also known as sikuk or seksu, couscous is the beloved national food of Morocco. It’s a dish of steamed balls of crushed semolina, flavoured with herbs and spices, and served with meats and vegetables. Most Moroccan families eat couscous on Fridays, although you can sample this tasty dish any day of the week.

Fish Chermoula

Chermoula is a thick relish or marinade, used as the foundation of many Moroccan dishes. It’s made with a variety of herbs and spices like cumin, paprika, parsley and pepper, and is classically used to flavor fish and seafood dishes, such as fried sardines and fish tagine.

Best food in Morocco

Dive into the tantalizing cuisine of Morocco with Trafalgar, as we show you the best places to try traditional dishes like tagine, couscous and fish chermoula.

What to pack for Morocco

People packing for a tour

Pack for sustainable travel

Consider your environmental impact when you next take a trip and go single-use-plastic-free by packing a reusable water bottle, a steel straw, your own shopping bags and refillable toiletry bottles.

Adaptor plug

In Morocco, the standard voltage is 220 V and the power plugs and sockets are of type C and E. The standard frequency is 50 Hz.

Modest clothing

When visiting Morocco, you’ll need to wear modest clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Bring light, loose clothes for the heat and warm layers for chilly desert nights.

A scarf is useful for everyone as it keeps the sun and sand off your face, while women can use it to cover their head when visiting mosques.

Slip-on sandals

In Morocco, you’ll need comfortable sandals that you can easily slip off when entering homes, hammams and some traditional restaurants.

Sunscreen & sunglasses

The sun can be intense in Morocco, so protect your eyes with UV-protected sunglasses and your skin with SPF 30 or higher.

Later, our day concludes with an orientation meeting and welcome dinner.

Day 2: Casablanca – Marrakesh

escorted tour morocco

Today we start to discover Morocco's largest city and economic capital, Casablanca, the best representation of the modern side of Morocco. Casablanca’s history—well, it’s complicated. Influences range from French to Spanish to Portuguese to Arab to British. We'll begin our city tour with a visit to the only Jewish Museum in the Arabic-speaking world. Next, we'll visit the ornate Hassan II Mosque (with interior admission included), which has the tallest minaret in the world. We'll continue to Aln Diab Corniche for a pleasant stroll along the coast before stopping at Mohammed V Square. We'll visit the Habous Quarter, one of the oldest areas of Casablanca built by the French in the 1930s in an attempt to solve housing shortages. After our visit, we'll depart for Marrakesh.

Day 3: Marrakesh

escorted tour morocco

After breakfast, we'll enjoy a tour of Marrakesh, also known as the "Red City." This majestic town is filled with palaces, gardens, markets, and mosques. We'll visit the stunning,19th-century Bahia Palace where we'll see the intricate work done by local artisans. From there, we'll explore the artisan quarters and the colorful souks to witness and experience daily life in Marrakesh. Next, we'll continue to Dar El Bacha Museum. It's one of the medina's finest examples of Riad architecture and is dripping with Moroccan Zellige (colorful geometric tilework), intricate white plasterwork, and heavy, carved cedar-wood lintels. We'll wander past palm readers, snake charmers, acrobats, and musicians as we make our way to the medina's main square, the famous Jemaa el-Fna. This evening, we'll return to the medina to enjoy a typical Moroccan dinner with entertainment.

Day 4: Marrakesh

escorted tour morocco

A free day to explore Marrakesh! Consider an optional hammam and massage to relax and unwind or join our optional Berber Experience in the Atlas Mountains where we'll enjoy a traditional Berber lunch with bread and mint tea and visit a cooperative run by women that extracts Argan oil. Late this afternoon, we'll come together for a cooking class that takes place on the terrasse of the villa in a spectacular décor with the Atlas Mountains in the background. We'll enjoy an exceptional gastronomic experience of our award-winning chef's culinary world, drawing from his extensive knowledge of North Africa's rich food culture. From picking out fresh produce in the souks of his hometown of Marrakesh to sampling spices for the perfect flavor to watching artisinal fillo dough made from scratch in front of our eyes. The chef will unlock the secrets of the recipes he's mastered over the years for us. We'll enjoy dinner with our chef and leave with an inside perspective of one of the world's most highly cherished cuisines.

Day 5: Marrakesh – Boumalne Dades

escorted tour morocco

Our journey through majestic Morocco continues across the High Atlas Mountains and the spectacular Tichka Pass to Boumalne Dades. We’ll stop for a brief tour of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This giant fortification, which showcases a unique example of pise clay architecture, has been a filming location for Gladiator and Game of Thrones. We'll have time for an independent lunch before we continue to our final destination today: Boumalne Dades. Prepare to be wowed by this town set on the edge of the Sahara Desert. Tonight, we'll savor an included dinner at your Riad-hotel.

Day 6: Boumalne Dades – Erfoud

escorted tour morocco

Today, we’ll marvel at one of Morocco’s most visited natural sights, the lush Todra Palmeraie Gorge with its dramatic 985-foot-high walls. Our walking tour affords plenty of spectacular photo ops! Our travels continue to Erfoud, described as an oasis and “the Door to the Desert.” Enjoy dinner at the hotel and rest up for tomorrow’s once-in-a-lifetime Sahara itinerary.

Day 7: Sahara Desert Experience

escorted tour morocco

The only word for today’s full-day excursion is unforgettable! We’ll start in Rissani, a caravan center with a large vibrant souk at its heart, where we’ll hop into a 4x4 caravan to venture into the desert, winding through small villages before stopping in serene Tissardmine for a picnic lunch. As we ascend the peak of Erg Chebbi, prepare to be blown away by the desert's vastness. We’ll “trade up” to camels for the real deal: a ride through the Merzouga dunes on camelback! Loaded with memories (and photos) you can’t wait to share, we’ll return to the hotel after sunset for dinner together.

Day 8: Erfoud – Fez

escorted tour morocco

After departing Erfoud, we’ll journey through the scenic Middle Atlas mountain range, while admiring its lush forested slopes brimming with cedar and oak trees. You’ll have a chance to see Ifrane, a picturesque ski area, and in the evening, when we reach Fez, catch the magical city lights as we arrive.

escorted tour morocco

Fez is home to the oldest university in the world, and today we’ll join a local expert to learn more about this 1,200-year-old city, which was Morocco’s capital for 400 years and stands as one of the world’s largest, best-preserved medieval fortified cities. Our full-day exploration includes the Fez el Bali Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where life unfolds as it did centuries ago. We’ll wander the famous souks known for authentic Moroccan carpets and ceramics. After the high energy of the souks, a quiet lunch in a riad (a traditional Moroccan house with an interior courtyard) will be most welcome. We will also see the Nejjarine Fountains and Museum and the 14th-century Attarine Medersas (a place of education) before visiting Fes Jdid, the modern district of the city, in the afternoon. Here, we’ll explore the Jewish Quarter and the Royal Palace.

Day 10: Fez at Leisure

escorted tour morocco

Enjoy a day at leisure in Fez! Explore and wander the city further. Or consider an optional tour to visit a winery with lunch.

Day 11: Fez – Rabat

escorted tour morocco

After breakfast, we'll drive to Rabat, Morocco's coastal capital and fifth-largest city. Upon arrival, we'll spend the afternoon visiting the city's fascinating historic sites. We'll see the 19th-century Royal Palace and the city's "Gate of the Winds" (also known as Bab Rouah). We'll visit Hassan Tower, the minaret of an incomplete mosque that was originally intended to be the world's largest. We'll continue to the picturesque Kasbah of the Udayas which was built in the mid-12th century. Here, we'll walk through the French colonial gardens and explore the fortress built to shield royalty from attacks. Our tour concludes at Chellah, a necropolis and the site of the ruins of a Roman town known as Sala Colonia. We'll have some free time to relax before we come together for our farewell dinner this evening.

Day 12: Depart Rabat

Our tour comes to an end after breakfast today. Travelers who purchase our air-inclusive package will transfer to the airport for our return flight and touch down in the U.S. later today.

Today, the hammam still serves this purpose for the locals but is brought to a higher level for the tourists. In the hammam, you’ll be submerged by a complete relaxation experience within an authentic oriental décor where you’ll be listening to your own body in an atmosphere filled with water, oils, essences, and perfumes. Enjoy a 30-minute scrub with black soap or soothing spices to eliminate toxins from your body. Morocco Small Group Tours

The essence of morocco.

From the air, Morocco is a patchwork of Berber villages, medieval towns, surfing beaches and Sahara sands, shaping the landscape from High Atlas Mountains to Atlantic shores. Up-close are mosques and medinas, mint tea, music, and magic.

Why choose a tour in Morocco?

From imperial capitals to oasis towns, and from spice-scented souks to spectacular scenery, Morocco mixes mystique with history, ancient ruins with medieval monuments, desert sands with surfing shores, and Bedouin settlements with Berber villages.

Jules Verne’s tours cover all four of the country’s capitals, former and current. The most visited is mesmerising Marrakech , with citadel ramparts encircling a labyrinth of lanes and alleys, sprinkled with souks, and centred on the mystics, musicians, and magicians of legendary Djemaa el-Fna square.

Medieval Meknes is the least known, its magnificent Bab el Mansour gate leading into the Moorish medina, a blend of Islamic and Maghreb monuments, secret courtyards and ornate riads.

Fez was the first of the four, with a thousand years of history, enthralling architecture, and 15 th -century fountains confirming its reputation as Morocco’s cultural capital; and Rabat is the current capital, spreading from the banks of the Bou Regreg River to the Atlantic shore, its Oudaya Kasbah a haven of tranquillity, with an Andalucian garden, flower-filled alleyways, and ocean views.

Coastal towns and cities on our various routes include Casablanca , the country’s largest metropolis, its opulent Hassan II Mosque a masterpiece of Moroccan craftsmanship; and Tangier, strategically set on the Strait of Gibraltar, and mixing an air of exotica with Portuguese, Spanish and French influences.

Taroudant is a rather majestic market town, hidden in a shell of honey-toned city walls, with superb souks and two main squares at its core; and Essaouira is both busy port and laid-back resort, with oceanfront ramparts, a market, medina, crescent bay, and flotillas of bright blue fishing boats.

Inland are the Sahara sands and Bedouin settlement of Erfoud oasis, its Mars-like landscape a much-used film location; the peaceful town of Moulay Idriss, cloaking two hills with whitewashed houses, a spiritual aura and a step-back-in-time tempo; Imlil, a rustic Berber village, perched 1,740-metres above sea level in the High Atlas Mountains; and atmospheric Boumalne Dades, its buildings in the same ochre and rose as the rock of its desert plateau, rising above a stunningly scenic valley.

In a country studded with historic sites and haunting scenery, our Grand Tour of Morocco is a superb circling of the country, taking in all these places, and more, to reveal its culture and character, splendours and secret gems.

When to go on Morocco holidays

With a generally tropical climate, Morocco’s huge diversity of landscapes is matched by equally variable temperatures, often as high as 35° in the summer months, and as low as 5° in the Sahara nights. Spring and autumn months are the most temperate for touring, and winters are pleasantly warm but can be wet. Avoiding the heat of the high season, and the most likely weeks of the rains, Jules Verne tours cover the months from late January to May, and late August to early December.

Who are Morocco tours suited to?

Multi-faceted Morocco tempts every type of traveller with its busy cities, beguiling towns, colourful culture, and astonishing topography. Its heady blend of Arabic, African and European influences will delight avid historians and inveterate hagglers alike; and a sense of adventure and intrigue is ever present, from desert dunes to lush valleys, magnificent mountains, and ocean shores. Our tours range from 4 nights in heritage riads to 14 nights of discovery , travelling in small groups of like-minded people.

Why book Morocco tours with Jules Verne?

With 45 years’ experience and a passion for creating extraordinary adventures, Jules Verne visits iconic landmarks and lesser-known sites, with expert tour guides who share their local knowledge, and show you hidden gems. Our journeys in Morocco visit seven UNESCO sites, from the country’s four capitals to the ruins of Roman Volubilis, and the medinas of picturesque Tétouan and vibrant Essaouira; and we include immersive experiences of Morocco’s culture with stays in heritage hotels, a rooftop dinner in a city riad, and lunch in Imlil’s unique mountain retreat.

All our guided tours to Morocco are ABTA and ATOL protected, and we offer a 100% price guarantee, so you can book with complete confidence.

The city is also known for its stunning gardens, including the Jardin Majorelle, which was once the home of French painter Jacques Majorelle. In addition to its cities, Morocco is also known for its stunning natural beauty. The Sahara Desert, for example, is one of the country's most popular destinations and offers a truly unique experience for visitors. Whether you're exploring the dunes on a camel trek or staying in a traditional Berber camp, the vastness and beauty of the desert is sure to leave a lasting impression. For those seeking a more coastal experience, Morocco offers stunning beaches along the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts. The town is also known for its strong cultural heritage, including its historic fortifications, which date back to the 18th century.

Moroccan cuisine is a unique and diverse blend of flavours, ingredients, and cooking techniques that reflect the country's rich cultural heritage. From the spicy stews of Marrakech to the sweet pastries of Fes, Moroccan food is a feast for the senses that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

One of the most iconic dishes in Moroccan cuisine is the tagine, a slow-cooked stew that is typically made with meat, vegetables, and spices. The dish is named after the traditional clay pot in which it is cooked, and it is a staple of Moroccan cuisine, enjoyed for both its flavours and its versatility. Tagines can be made with a wide range of ingredients, including lamb, chicken, beef, and fish, and the dishes are known for their complex and aromatic spices, such as cumin, cinnamon, and saffron.

Another staple of Moroccan cuisine is couscous, a staple grain that is served in a variety of forms, from a simple side dish to a filling main course. The grain is typically steamed and served with a variety of stews and sauces, and it is a popular dish throughout Morocco, especially in the rural areas where it is a staple food.

Moroccan cuisine is also known for its rich and flavourful soups, which are often served as a starter or a main course. One of the most famous soups in Morocco is harira, a hearty lentil and tomato soup that is typically flavoured with spices and served with bread. Other popular soups include bessara, a thick purée of fava beans, and shorba, a spicy soup that is made with a variety of meats and vegetables.

In addition to its savoury dishes, Moroccan cuisine is also famous for its sweet and delicate pastries, which are often enjoyed for breakfast or as a dessert. These pastries are typically made with phyllo dough, honey, and nuts, and they are often served with mint tea, a staple drink in Morocco. Some of the most famous pastries in Morocco include baklava, m'hencha, and sfenj, which are enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike.

No discussion of Moroccan cuisine would be complete without mentioning the country's famous tea culture. Tea is an integral part of daily life in Morocco, and it is typically enjoyed in the late afternoon or early evening, often as a way to relax and socialize with friends and family. The tea is typically sweet and flavoured with mint, and it is often served in traditional glasses, which are held high to symbolize hospitality.

Luxury Tours Morocco now brings all these experiences to life.

It doesn't matter which corner of Morocco you hit first. While Morocco has everything from Berber to European culture, our Morocco travel packages can expose you to all its cultural sides, from medieval to modern.

You can plan your time with many things to do and places to visit or stick to a single itinerary in one of the country's port cities and towns. For example, Rabat,

Casablanca, Essaouira, Tangier, and Agadir, along with other cities, are loved by travelers, and there are many reasons why:

Casablanca, the country's economic cradle, appeals to many. For the most part, it should thank its stunning architecture and exhibitions for that, uncommon in other port cities. But there's more to Morocco tour packages, including Casablanca, as this place can mesmerize you with ocean-view dining spots and thriving surf culture. Marrakesh is no time machine, but this city can easily take you back to the 11th century with its fascinating medina. A journey to this city is often associated with famous Moroccan souks, lush gardens, and relaxing hammams.

No Morocco travel trip is complete without a journey to the Sahara Desert. Sunny and hot, it may not be for the faint of heart who are used to hotel-like amenities during their getaways, but its beauty, tranquility, captivating dunes, and star-filled heavens deserve your attention. As a Morocco tour agency, we can arrange fun-packed itineraries to the blue city of Chefchaouen, one of the most ancient cities of all - Fes, and other country's gems. Some of our packages include a journey to multiple destinations to immerse yourself in the finest cuisine, architecture, hikes, and camel rides. The Morocco tour price will depend on what you expect from your trip, but you can rest assured every dollar you spend in Morocco will be worth it.

Touring holidays to Morocco frequently asked questons

Morocco is a country of great wonder and so you will want a tour that will cover as many of the highlights as possible. If possible, you should see the diversity of the country - from coastal charm of Casablanca to the bustling city of Marrakech. On route take in the Roman ruins at Volubilis, awe-inspiring architecture at the royal city of Meknes, the jaw-dropping natural landscapes of the Todgha Gorge and of course,  experience the magnificent desert as you traverse all this unique country has to offer. Watch the sun set over the Sahara, journey along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs and tour the palatial homes of the Sultans as you explore this fascinating culture and country.

Morocco is a bright country in both colour and culture. There is an array of highlights to see but here are the ones you won’t want to miss.

Casablanca – Casablanca, the city of the 1942 film starring Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart is a city for true travellers as oddly not many tourists frequent this place, perhaps due to the fact that the film was actually made in Hollywood with sets and not in Casablanca itself! The city however is a gem that has a lot to offer.

The Architecture is varied and stunning ranging from Art Deco to Gothic to modern. One of the nicest examples of Art Deco design is the Cinéma Rialto. Another beautiful building is the Gothic and Art Deco mix, 1930’s cathedral that now hosts exhibitions and some concerts. Then there is the largest mosque in Morocco - The Hassan II Mosque. Its an intricate building that took more than seven years and as many as 10,000 artisans to build.

Looking for the French influence you’ll be hard to find a better street than that of the palm-lined Boulevard Mohammed V, right in the heart of old Casablanca, and then there is of course the Église Notre Dame de Lourdes, a stunning specimen of Brutalist architecture. Because of its beautiful architecture, no building goes to waste and you’ll find many an art shop or museum tucked into old, redundant houses. Casablanca is also home to a busy restaurant and café scene. The city’s waterfront is lined with cafés, restaurants and stylish lounges.

Meknes - Meknes is a city on the northern side of Morocco, acknowledged for its imperial past, with beauties such as the Bab Mansour, a sizable gate to the former imperial city, with its decorative mosaic tiled arches. Inside you’ll find a selection of ancient ruins to explore. You’ll also find the Mausoleum of Sultan Moulay Ismail. Then there is the old town - Meknes Medina, a warren of lanes full of lively bazaars and shops, an ideal place to haggle a bargain souvenir.

Volubilis - Any Historians will want to head just outside of Meknes where you’ll find the remaining ruins of the Roman Volubilis. Surrounded by countryside, high on a hill, it is an impressive sight. Alternativey a visit to the well preserved medieval Arab-Muslim town Medina of Fez.

Travel through Todgha Gorge and along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs - a remarkable drive snaking through spectacular desert landscapes, villages, palm groves and passing hundreds of Kasbahs (fortresses) along the route. These fortresses are tall, windowless and with fortified towers. They were often bult by local leaders to portray their wealth and as protection for their land.

Marrakech – Marrakech is a bustling city full of colour, taste sensations and shopping extravaganzas. On top of that you will find stunning palaces and gardens alike.

Moroccan cooking is all about the roundness of flavour. With its mixture of influences including France and Spain, it pairs fish with fresh herbs and a subtle chilli heat, chicken with sharp citrus and tart olives and game with sugar cinnamon. Their combination of ingredients is intriguing but the results are delicious!

Tagine is the most popular method of cooking in Morocco. It is an earthenware pot in a conical shape. All ingredients, meat and spices are mixed in the base plate of the Tagine and then the conical shape top is placed on and gets to work by allowing the steam to rise, condense and then drip back down to remoisten the meat. In many ways it’s similar to a casserole but the unique shape makes for a moister environment ensuring a juicy dish.

Tagine dishes usually contain Chicken, beef or lamb with tomatoes, peppers, onion, garlic, tomato paste, meat or vegetable stock, cinnamon, saffron, turmeric, cardamon, nutmeg, cloves, fresh coriander and parsley, and sometimes nuts, such as almonds or cashews and fruit such as apricots or raisins. The ingredients combine together and melt down to make a rich fruity sauce. The finished dish is typically served with couscous. Spice wise it could be compared to a mild to medium curry.

B’stilla - This unusual pie mixes game with cinnamon sugar but is said to be a delicacy not to be missed. Layers of a paper-thin pastry encase pigeon meat, almonds and saffron spiced eggs, all topped off with a dusting of cinnamon sugar.

Fish chermoula – Chermoula is a fresh herb and chilli marinade which is used to coat fish before cooking and then also as a dipping sauce accompaniment.

B’ssara – A breakfast treat of pureed broad beans, topped with a drizzle of olive oil and cumin, then eaten by dipping bread in it.

Street food in Morocco gets even more intriguing with snails cooked in a broth that promises to ward of coughs and colds or lambs cheeks which are said to be very sweet.

For those Tea drinkers out there, it’s wise to remember that Moroccans don’t take milk with their tea so it will not be delivered to you without a special request for it. The main tea of choice in Morocco is mint tea so again it’s worth asking for English or plain tea so as not to be given mint by mistake.

You can visit Morocco at any time of the year but generally the ideal time is between March to April and September to November when the weather warm, but not too hot and the evenings are cool but not cold. However, no matter when you travel please remember to pack a cardigan or jumper for those evenings and the difference in day to night temperature is very noticeable!

My name is Yasmeen Nizam. My tour was from February 17th to February 26th. My driver/guide was Ismail Choukhane. He expertly drove us through the diverse terrain of Morocco. He is a gentleman with a kind, warm and helpful demeanour. We have nothing but praise for him. Hassan our our guide in Fez had phenomenal knowledge and was very courteous. Zubaida in Marrakesh was good but she implied that Berbers were converted to Islam by force. If she is telling this to non Muslim tourists, it only perpetuates negative stereotypes of Islam. Abdul in Chefchouane was very good as well. Accommodation in Casablanca on February 17th was not very good but the service at the hotel was exceptional. .

Where do I even begin! Ali was the MOST amazing tour guide and showed us Morocco in a way we never would have seen it had we traveled solo. We arrived to someone waiting for us at the airport and had cold refreshments in the car. Each city was better than the next and Ali’s attention to detail and organization made the trip spectacular. Having been raised near the Sahara, he provided unique insights and personal stories throughout the experience that made us understand the culture of Morocco on a deeper level. He was a joy to be with in the car and we looked forward to waking up to start the day each day. He perfectly crafted a plan every morning but also allowed for us to swap activities or add things in as the day went. Our best days were when we had the chance to stop and check out local activities and things happening along our route. It was a joy to see him interact with his family members along the way and is clear that he is loved by everyone who meets him! We could not have asked for a better guide to spend our trip with, and I would recommend him and this trip to anyone looking for an experience of a lifetime!

6 Day Private Tour from Casablanca to Marrakech Tour

6 Day Private Tour from Casablanca to Marrakech

The Road Goes On Forever...And the Party Never Ends Since my college years I’ve dreamed of traveling to Morocco. Of course, there are many ways to visit - a beach resort, a Marrakesh resort, a cruise, etc. As a child I read a National Geographic Magazine article on the Berber people of North Africa. I wanted a cultural tour - a short, introduction to people, history, music, food, religion, natural beauty, culture of this unique land. If you are going to road-trip in a land of extremes - sea, mountains, desert, highways, narrow alley ways, and torn-up gravel trails shared with rickshaws, mopeds, bicycles and donkey carts - you need an excellent 4x4 comfortable SUV like the Toyota Land Rover that Anwar met us with at the Casablanca airport. You need an excellent driver that can handle the the chaos of medina traffic and the sliding of deep sand. Someone who knows the local customs and craziness of the Morocco drivers. I'm generally white-knuckled when others drive, but I had immediate confidence in Anwar and could enjoy the sites. You need great music! Anwar shared his and we shared ours. We got a great new soundtrack of world music. You need connectivity. Anwar’s Toyota had wifi for the road. Most of all, you need an enlightened, kind, cultured human being to guide and educate you on the culture, sites and history. Anwar is just incredible host and I dare say friend - leading us through a road trip of a life time preparing and planning lodging, meals and tours. All of the accomodations were top notch. Everywhere we went, Anwar had friends. The hospitality is beyond anything hoped for. The hotel on the Corniche in Casablanca had an ocean view with a full moon. The riad in chefchaouen had spectacular views over the blue city and sunsets from the private balcony. Two nights in a road in the Fez Medina with dining at a 5 star restaurant and rooftop view. Anwar helped us with local wines and arranged local guides in each city. The camel ride across the 40 foot high dunes to watch the sunset was the greatest feeling. My camel, “Bob Marley” affectionately nuzzled my leg. Our guide found a sand “fish” lizard. We rode into the Tiziri camp in near darkness. The camp was eco centric but had more than the comforts of home. Hot shower in your large luxury tent with full toilet facilities. Anwar arranged a special 6 course meal served to us under the stars with a special local wine. After dinner, the guides performed traditional drum and song music accompanied by guitar. Truly remarkable and discussion of musical influences. We arose to see the sunrise over the desert and departed after a traditional breakfast. We drove through the Atlas mountains listening to tunes past old women carrying bundles of branches on their backs and down into Marrakesh for our final adventure. We part ways with Anwar but not before he had gone above and beyond yet again to get us safely to our riad. TL;DR Anwar is a knowledgeable, friendly guide that will provide you a five star journey through a fancinating land. Highly recommended.

Combined Morocco Tour -10 Days Tour

Combined Morocco Tour -10 Days

Our 10-day combined Morocco tour offered as the chance to visit the most exciting places in Morocco. An adept trek in morocco tour guide picked us up from our hotel in Marrakech--we headed north to the cities of Rabat, Meknes and also enjoyed spectacular experiences at Chefchaouen and the Roman ruins at Volubilis. Our next destination was Fes, then later the Sahara desert. We passed through the Atlas Mountains as we drove off to Todra Gorge, then the Atlantic Coast. We were later dropped off to Marrakech city.

9 Days Tour from Casablanca - Imperial Cities & Desert Tour

9 Days Tour from Casablanca - Imperial Cities & Desert

This tour provides an excellent overview of Morocco. There were some very long days in the vehicle, however our guide made this as pleasant as possible with lots of information provided along the way. He was also quite flexible allowing us to stop when wanted and for as long as needed. The vehicle was also quite comfortable (we were travelling as a couple). One tip, on the day you are travelling into the desert for the camel ride pack a small bag to take with you (not your whole luggage).

Private Morocco Tour Reviews

What an incredible journey through Morocco! This trip stands out as one of the finest tours I've experienced. I extend my sincere gratitude to Abdellatif, our exceptional tour operator, and of course our skilled driver, Massin, for their outstanding service. Keep up the fantastic work, guys!
We recently returned from an unforgettable 5-day tour of Morocco with Cultural Morocco Tours, and it exceeded all our expectations. Prior to the trip, I meticulously researched various tour options and decided to go with this company. From the moment we booked, the experience was seamless and well-organized. What stood out most was the flexibility of the tour itinerary, which catered perfectly to our preferences, and the team was always responsive to our inquiries. Our driver Abdul, who greeted us warmly at Casablanca Airport, was nothing short of exceptional. His politeness, extensive knowledge of the region, and willingness to accommodate our needs made our journey truly memorable. Throughout the tour, every detail was meticulously taken care of, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience. The selection of hotels and riads was impeccable, offering comfort and excellence at every stop along our journey. However, the highlight of our tour undoubtedly was the experience at the desert camp. It was a magical and surreal experience that will forever be etched in our memories. The quality of service and attention to detail provided by a frindly people truly set them apart. Despite the exceptional quality of service, we were pleasantly surprised by the competitiveness of the tour price. Cultural Tours offers outstanding value for money without compromising on the quality of the experience. In conclusion, we wholeheartedly recommend Cultural Morocco Tours for anyone seeking an authentic and enriching Moroccan experience. Thank you to the entire team for making our journey one we will cherish for a lifetime.
Was an absolut Amazing trip. Our Guide Hamid was Great, polite and very Kind. Absolut pleasure! I will recomment this tour to my Friends! Also Great Hotels, Great stops and enough Space to enjoy the Country! Thanks a lot!

These 11 Destinations Are So Stunning, They Don't Seem Real

Pinterest shared some destinations that feel out of this world.

Pinterest has become a go-to resource for those plotting out their next great vacation. The site has made it ridiculously simple to discover tips and tricks to traveling like a pro — and even easier to save all those ideas in one place. But if you need a little more inspiration, Pinterest has also unveiled its top travel trends of 2024, and according to the report, "mysterious" and "unbelievable" places are at the very top of everyone's mind.

"Searches for enigmatic locales are rising as travelers crave places shrouded in mystery and allure, promising a blend of wonder, adventure, and the unexplored," Pinterest shared in its Travel Trends report. "From ethereal natural landscapes to ancient, whispering ruins, these hidden gems ignite the imagination of artists and call out to travelers in pursuit of spiritual enlightenment and transcendence. Venturing into the depths of ancient cities or uncovering forgotten realms becomes a daring odyssey, pushing boundaries and unraveling profound truths about oneself and the world."

While this all sounds great, we wanted specifics. So, we asked Pinterest for the top-trending spots specifically around "places that don't feel real." Here are the destinations the platform shared.

Aokigahara Forest, Japan

TOSHIHARU ARAKAWA/Getty Images

Aokigahara Forest , often called the "sea of trees," is a dense woodland found along the northwest base of Mount Fuji. Here, travelers can expect a quiet atmosphere, winding trails to roam, and plenty of serenity. And, as Japan's tourism website noted, there's one super cool natural occurrence here — "If you hold a compass to the rocky volcanic ground, it may react to the natural magnetism."

Meghalaya, India

RBB/Getty Images

Meghalaya, a state in the northeastern part of India, is one more verdant green landscape that looks closer to the land before time than anything else. Here, visitors will find rich biodiversity, including the endangered cloud leopard, and miles upon miles of hiking trails to explore for days on end.

Kolmanskop, Namibia

maydays/Getty Images

Kolmanskop, a once bustling diamond mine town, now stands abandoned in the Namib Desert, slowly being reclaimed by sand. Today it stands as a photographer's paradise, offering surreal visuals of homes being swallowed by the earth. You need a permit to visit and to take photos, which can be obtained from the ticket office before entering the town. (Commercial photographers need a different permit, which costs significantly more, but as long as those images are just for your personal use, you're all set.)

Seven Colored Earth of Chamarel, Mauritius

Balate Dorin/Getty Images

The Seven Colored Earth of Chamarel in Mauritius isn’t your typical patch of sand. Here, travelers can gaze upon a 21-acre patch of land that is the perfect kaleidoscope of seven colors. These vibrant hues all come from volcanic rocks that are cooling off at various temperatures, all set off by the gorgeous green backdrop of Chamarel. Come visit the geopark, see the turtles, and stay for a cup of coffee .

Ik Kil Cenote, Mexico

emicristea/Getty Images

In the Yucatán Peninsula, just a stone’s throw from Chichén Itzá, travelers can dive into Ik Kil Cenote, an awe-inspiring natural swimming hole with some of the bluest waters you've ever seen. Inside the cenote, travelers can find otherworldly vines snaking down to the crystal-clear waters below. The best way to see it for yourself is with a guided tour to see both the pyramid and the cenote in one.

The Tunnel of Love, Ukraine

The Tunnel of Love , located in the village of Klevan, is just as romantic as it sounds. The dark corridor is made up of arching trees, giving just enough room for the train to run through. The tunnel continues for three kilometers (about 1.86 miles) and is a popular place for photographers — and lovebirds. Make sure to keep this place bookmarked for when the time comes for tourism to return to the Ukraine.

Cappadocia, Turkey

benstevens/Getty Images

You've likely seen this spot on your Instagram feed, and for good reason. Cappadocia was made famous on social media thanks to its fairytale landscape made up of rock formations and ancient cave dwellings, not to mention the hot air balloons that ascend over it at sunrise. Read our entire guide to planning the perfect hot air balloon trip here .

Antelope Canyon, U.S.

Left_Coast_Photographer/Getty Images

Antelope Canyon, located on Navajo Indigenous land in Arizona, is one of America's most beautiful slot canyons. Here, guests can hike through the canyon, finding the perfect light cascading through the narrow openings, creating awe-inspiring images. Visiting requires a guided tour, but that's OK, as it's always with a local who knows exactly where to go.

Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

Kelly Cheng Travel Photography/Getty Images

Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia is a celebrated UNESCO World Heritage site made up of 16 fantastic terraced lakes all joined by waterfalls cascading the azure waters from one pool to the next. Travelers can come to hike or walk around the lakes and do their best to spot all the beautiful birds that call the park home.

Ait Benhaddou, Morocco

Cyrille Gibot/Getty Images

One more hard-to-believe-this-is-real spot to add to your list is Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Morocco. The ancient fortified village is located in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, and is made up of fantastically well-preserved medieval structures — so much so that it's made its way into plenty of movies like "Gladiator." Visitors can explore its narrow streets and buildings, but remember, people still actually live here, so visit with care, and maybe consider a guided tour too .

Termales Santa Rosa De Cabal, Colombia

DC_Colombia/Getty Images

Termales Santa Rosa De Cabal in Colombia is yet another water-focused spot that Pinterest says will leave you singing, "Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?" The natural hot springs located in the Andean mountains are said to have healing properties, but even if they can't fix a broken bone, it will certainly soothe your soul. The easiest way to get there, once again, is with a guide.
