Anthony Ryan Leslie (known as Ryan Leslie) (born September 25th, 1978) is an American record producer, vocalist and rapper hailing from Washington D.C., US, who has found success through his shrewd business sense and self-promotion.
Ryan Leslie, from a young age, has been proving himself a bit out of the ordinary. Achieving a remarkably high SAT score as a teenager, Leslie went on to graduate from Harvard at the age of 19 with a degree in Political Science. Following an obsession with Stevie Wonder, Leslie wished to pursue a career in music, devoting much of his time whilst completing his studies to creating and producing music in a studio basement on campus.
After graduation, Leslie worked hard to enter the music industry, eventually landing a production internship, going on to produce the song "Keep Giving Your Love to Me," which was later featured on the Bad Boys II soundtrack, performed by Beyonce. He then went on to produce tracks for Britney Spears, Carl Thomas and New Edition. Yet it was in 2006 that Leslie really made a name for himself, following his work on Cassie's "Me&U" which went on to become a number one hit on the R&B Singles Chart and number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Leslie then produced Cassie's entire album which also faired well in the charts.
Leslie went on to release his own solo recordings under his label Next Selection, to which he achieved moderate success. His first single, "Diamond Girl" (2008) broke into the top 100 at 95, going on to release his self-titled album in 2009 and his second, "Transition" with both albums entering the top ten of Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart. Following these releases, Leslie decided to produce his music independently with his 2012 album, "Les Is More,"which featured an appearance from Raekwon.
Leslie's biggest success lies in his use of online media, such as YouTube, Twitter and Myspace, developing a huge fan base thanks to his clever videos and earnest interaction with his audience. Realising the importance of using online resources in order to make a success as an artist in the modern age, he continues to expand his digital presence through well thought-out marketing.
Live reviews
After hearing the concert had change venue my mind was in doubt, questioning myself "will it be a good vibe at the new venue"? "Ryan is taking a risk of losing recognition" "will we have a good view"? "What if my pregnant lady is not safe amongst others while at a concert"? Which is why I purchased specific tickets to avoid this. How all these questions turned out was all to be revealed. Firstly I would like to give the biggest thank you to Ryan Leslie and the entourage for taking care of the fans, knowing them individually and accommodating their needs. We were welcomed at the venue doors by Mr Mylez whom knew what exactly Ryan Leslie wants his fans to experience. And how spot on he got it, we were welcomed into the venue avoiding the queue and cold as we have here in uk. Once into the venue we were shown exactly where our seating location was and I must be honest I was like "REALLY" how close could I have been having if not the best seating and even down to the gang considering my pregnant lady by making sure the vibrations from the sound system wasn't directly hitting us. Before show started a member of the team once more came to make sure that we felt welcomed and were comfortable, using the phrase "if I don't check you guys are ok and have any problems I will be in trouble". Although I knew the member was not actually going to get in trouble, how nice it felt to be made feel welcome by normal human beings not people who let stardom go to their head. What a pleasure. How glad I felt to have taken the love of my life to meet such good people and experience such a good performance. I think her words of "I will never forget that" say it all.
The show began and I was pinching myself asking are we really this close to such a great performer and inspiration. How real this became when Ryan Leslie noticed myself and the lady who had used the Whatsapp and Email to connect with him and submit a request around her being pregnant etc. Reality hit when Ryan Leslie gave us a shout out by full name and even went as far as mentioning our baby boy to be name as I had asked of him. Special moments forever with us now. Once again to every single member of the crew and himself Ryan Lesie thank you for making this all happen and representing such a worth while artist, producer, inspiration, percussionist, songwriter, singer, plus many more talents. Makes every moment I have mentioned to other individuals "oh have you heard of Ryan Leslie". "You need to listen to real music" "whatever mood I find myself in I can listen to him" worth while. I would strongly recommend anybody making this a part of their life as it's as easy as listening and the music will take care of the rest.
Again many thanks and I will never forget the event. Peace

Ryan Leslie’s talents are certainly not in question! Harvard must have taught him well, as the producer, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist ands rapper was well respected in the music industry many years before deciding to take to the stage himself. A bizarre court case in 2011 first brought him to my attention. In which, he had to honour a $1,000,000 reward for the return of a stolen laptop. Yes, $1,000,000! Ouch! That must have hurt! However if it wasn’t for that online article Ryan Leslie would still be unknown to me. I hope he finds some solace in the addition of me, too his ever growing following of fans. I first saw him on his ‘Les is more’ tour in late 2012. The venue was quaint and intimate, mellow red lights glowed from the walls on either side and the stage at the front was remarkably low and close to the audience. It wasn't overly crowded which made making my way to the front remarkably easy and with Ryan only a few feet away the gig began… and he certainly did not disappoint! He is an unbelievable performer, energetic, confident and charismatic. I am still surprised he spent so much time under the radar as a performer. One moment he was rapping, the next singing and playing the piano. And all the time directing the band and engaging with the audience with a remarkable level of enthusiasm. His tracks, even ones I wasn’t so familiar with, are wonderfully written. With riffs and sing along lyrics that are catchy and memorable. He wonderfully dropped a couple of classics into his set as well. ‘I Found Love’ by Rihanna and Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ brought the noise level up and the house down simultaneously. All in all this was a 5 star show. So my advice to you is………BOOK A TICKET! You won’t regret it!
Anthony Ryan Leslie performing under his latter two names is one of the most prolific hip hop performers to have come out of Washington in quite some time. With almost twenty years of experience on the circuit, he has absolutely no trouble selling tickets thanks to the ever increasing reputation of his performance. He also has no issue in handling the fast increasing venues as he manages to make the whole performance feel personal whether he is performing to 10 or 1000.
His albums took a while to come around yet he has been releasing regularly so has a lot of material to lean back on. The first single 'Diamond Girl' always goes down well as does the follow-up collaboration with Cassie 'Addiction'. It feels though the crowd adore Ryan so much he could have played any combination of twelve tracks and achieved a similar level of pandemonium within the packed out room. Although he keeps a cool demeanour all evening, he looks visibly pleased with the reaction at the finale.

Cassie Plans To Tour Following Diddy Lawsuit, Ryan Leslie Claims
During a recent chat with TMZ , Ryan Leslie revealed that Cassie may have a major comeback underway, including an upcoming tour. The outlet asked Leslie about the performer's recent lawsuit against Diddy , which came with a long list of horrific allegations. While he couldn't provide much insight into that relationship, he shared that things were looking hopeful for the Connecticut native the last time they spoke.
“I think that was much further past after our working relationship,” he said of her allegations against Diddy. “The last conversation we had, she’s planning for a tour.” He didn't share any additional details of the potential tour, but it's safe to say that fans would love to see Cassie back on the road.

Ryan Leslie Hints At Cassie Tour
While Cassie and Diddy reached a settlement shortly after she filed, her suit was followed by three others. "I have decided to resolve this matter amicably on terms that I have some level of control," her statement on the settlement reads. "I want to thank my family, fans, and lawyers for their unwavering support." Various women have accused the Bad Boy Records founder of sexual assault, physical and emotional abuse, and more. He has since denied any and all wrongdoing. He accuses his alleged victims of filing as a "money-grab" and claims that "enough is enough."
As she moves forward from the bombshell lawsuit, Cassie's been spending her time surrounded by loved ones . Most recently, she was spotted enjoying a meal at Serendipity in NYC accompanied by her husband, Alex Fine. Their two little ones, Frankie and Sunny, also joined them for the outing. Leslie’s last full-length release was 2015’s MZRT , which he distributed himself, with You Know My Speed also released through his own label Black Phoenix Enterprises.
Clocking in at 10 tracks and almost 38 minutes in length, You Know My Speed includes a sole feature from fellow R&B star Bobby V on album closer “Sounds.”
Leslie also released a video for single “Falling Hard,” which sees him performing the song in a recording studio.
To coincide with the album’s release, Ryan Leslie also announced a European tour that takes place in March and April this year.
The 10-date trek will begin at London’s O2 Academy before heading to Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands and finally France.

“I figured we play the album before we drop it. So, we’re gonna play it live,” the singer/producer said ahead of a performance in Cologne, Germany.
“I’ve had a big following for the longest time in Germany and so we’re doing an open-air festival-type conference — concert actually. It’s going to be about 3,000 folks but people are really flying in from all over the world.”
“It’s going to be great. It’s been a minute,” concluded Leslie, who took a step back from music to launch a business in the tech space, SuperPhone, which aids to help creatives and businesses increase engagement, drive revenue and build better relationships with SMS/MMS marketing.

Ryan Leslie
Known for his prodigious and multi-faceted gifts, Ryan Leslie has reached great heights as a producer, songwriter, performer, and businessman. A creative and business mastermind, with an illustrious career with his own music, Ryan has worked with the world’s biggest stars, from Beyonce to Kanye West.
A Harvard graduate at the age of 19, he went into the music industry and achieved global success, creating legions of fans around the world for his music. He became a go-to writer/producer, working on records for the biggest superstars in music, such as Beyoncé, Kanye West, Mary J Blige, Fabolous, Ne-yo, Britney Spears, Craig David and Chris Brown.
Leslie also discovered Cassie, whom he signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy Records in 2005, going on to write, produce, and release Cassie’s debut album and hit single ‘Me&U’, which reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Leslie released his self-titled album on Motown Records in 2008, which spawned the hits ‘Diamond Girl’, ‘Addiction’ featuring Fabolous & Cassie, and ‘How It Was Supposed To Be’. He quickly followed up with a Grammy-nominated album ‘Transition’ in 2010 and the independently-released third album, ‘Les Is More’ in 2012.
His fourth album ‘Black Mozart’ was released in 2013 and is only available via Leslie’s #Renegades DirectToConsumer Club.
You Know My Speed
Now, Ryan Leslie has re-opened his R&B book for a new chapter with a new album, You Know My Speed, returning to the distinct R&B roots initially showcased in his 2008 self-titled debut album.
Lead single, ‘Run It Back’, was released in December 2023 as a prelude to the album and is a ballad reminiscent of the minimalist songwriting and production that earned Leslie a Grammy nomination for sophomore album ‘Transition’. The album’s focus track ‘This Love Thing’ is an instant classic driven by the sparse, uptempo production that has always been signature. Other standout tracks are ‘Put It In The Air’, an uplifting, vibey track, title track ‘You Know My Speed’ a song that reflects Leslie’s laser focus and vision, and ‘Sounds’ featuring R&B vocalist Bobby V.
This album is a collection of recordings that represent the essence of a decade of experiences accumulated while travelling, building a technology company from scratch and launching a global investment fund. In many ways, London serves as a fitting backdrop for a long-overdue return to stage as many nights have been spent rehearsing, recording, and performing in landmark venues and studios across the UK. Succinct, sparse, and sonically urgent, “You Know My Speed” captures the energy that still drives my pursuit of excellence in all categories. -Ryan Leslie

Ryan Leslie Says Cassie Is ‘Planning For A Tour’ After Diddy Settlement
Cassie has plans for a musical comeback, according to her ex-boyfriend and former collaborator, Ryan Leslie.
Cassie has plans for a musical comeback and the support of her ex-boyfriend and former collaborator Ryan Leslie.
TMZ caught up with Leslie in New York City on Tuesday, Dec. 12, where he was asked about the current status of his relationship with Cassie , whose sexual assault lawsuit against Diddy was settled in 24 hours. According to Leslie, anything that happened to Cassie at the hands of Sean “Diddy” Combs happened “much later” after they had parted ways.
Leslie has spoken to the “Me and You” singer in recent years after the 2017 death of their former manager, Ed Woods. According to Leslie, Cassie is planning to release new music and go on tour.
“The last conversation we had she’s planning for a tour,” Leslie revealed. “So we had talked about that.”
Leslie brought Cassie over to Diddy’s Bad Boy label in 2005. She did get signed to Bad Boy. But according to her shocking 35-page lawsuit, it was an unfortunate move.
In the suit, Cassie accused Diddy of subjecting her to a pattern of control and abuse over about a decade. She also accused him of rape, plying her with drugs, beating her, and forcing her to have sex with a series of male prostitutes while he filmed the encounters as part of his “freak offs.”
In 2018, near the end of their relationship, Cassie claimed Diddy forced his way into her home and raped her.
“After years in silence and darkness,” Cassie said in a statement, “I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships.”
Diddy has denied Cassie’s allegations along with those in three additional additional lawsuits filed by women. The Bad Boy founder has experienced a drastic fall from grace in recent weeks after stepping down as chairman of his company Revolt along with having his Hulu reality show scrapped.
The Grammys are “evaluating” whether or not Diddy will be invited to attend the award show despite being nominated.

Ryan Leslie: Tiny Desk Concert
Ryan Leslie was in go mode as he arrived at NPR headquarters after an early morning road trip from New York. He bounced all over the space even when the cameras weren’t rolling. I was curious to hear how he would take his big, synth-heavy sound and adapt it to the Tiny Desk, but then was quickly reminded that at his core, he’s a creator. Leslie made songs like “Diamond Girl,” “How It Was Supposed To Be” and Cassie’s “Long Way 2 Go,” so to watch him recreate them here with ease shouldn’t have been a surprise.
After writing and producing Cassie’s debut album and hits for others, the singer-songwriter and entrepreneur decided to focus on being a solo artist. It’s not easy to go into a studio by yourself and walk out with a complete album, but R. Les is that artist. The viral video of him creating “Addiction” is remarkable proof. In 2013, he walked away from the traditional music industry, removing his music from streaming services and created a new platform utilizing his social media following to promote and sell his work. Unlike many in Leslie’s class of producers from the early 2000s, he crafted a distinctive style, branching out and creating high demand as a writer and producer. It’s a style, proven here at his Tiny Desk, to be timeless.
