In addition to the Rameshwaram itinerary , you will also find useful information like the best time to visit Rameshwaram, hotels in Rameshwaram , and much more.

Day One of Rameshwaram Itinerary

Here are the places in Rameshwaram that you can cover on the first day of your itinerary. If you are looking for a short trip, then these are the places to visit in Rameshwaram in 1 Day .

Ramanathaswamy Temple

Ramanathaswamy Temple

The main attraction that pulls travellers to Rameswaram is, of course, the sacred and famous Ramanthaswamy temple . The temple is also known as Arulmigu Ramanatha Swamy Temple . The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, and one of the two Jyotirlingas located in South India. According to legend, the Shiv Ling was established by Lord Ram himself, on his way to Lanka.

Ramanathaswamy Temple

There are 22 wells in the temple. It is customary to bathe in the waters of these 22 कुंड before proceeding for the darshan of the Lord in the sanctum sanctorum. The other famous feature of the Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple is its famous temple corridor which is said to be the longest of its kind in any Hindu temple in India. The outer corridor of the Ramanathaswamy temple in Rameswaram has 1212 pillars and is a stunning example of the aesthetics of Indian temple architecture.

For early risers, the Mani Darshan Rameshwaram is going to be a special experience. The darshan happens between 4.00 AM to 5.00 AM, and one can see the “Sphatika Linga,” being worshipped.

Agni Theertham

Agni Theertham

The main theertha of the Ramanathasway temple where visitors bathe before proceeding to the temple is the Bay of Bengal itself. The place where devotees take a sanctification bath is the Agni Theertham .

According to legend, Lord Ram on his way back to Ayodhya from Lanka, bathed in the waters of the Agni Theertham before worshipping Lord Shiva, as atonement for the sin of killing a Brahmin, Ravana. The Agni Theertham is one of the sacred theerthas that is located outside the Ramanathaswamy temple.

Sangumal Beach

Sangumal Beach

The Sangumal Beach is easily accessible from Agni Theertham. If you are looking for stealing some moments of tranquillity from the hands of time, then you must head towards the sands of the Sangumal beach. The spiritual vibes of Rameswaram can be felt in the silence of this beach in the arms of nature.

The Sangumal beach is definitely not a beach for swimming, it is a beach to just watch the fishing activity and ruminate. There is a Childrens’ Park nearby, where kids can have some fun.

Sri Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir

Sri Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir

The Sri Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir is another important place that you must visit on your Rameswaram Trip. It is a temple with a huge idol of Hanuman in black granite that stands outside the sanctum. Inside the sanctum sanctorum, there is a smaller idol of Hanuman, Ram and Sita. These idols were brought here from Dhanushkodi. Rameshwaram to Dhanushkodi distance is about 19 kilometres.

An important attraction of the Sri Panchmukhi Hanuman temple is the floating stones that can be seen here. Though the stones are heavy, they can be seen floating in the water. It is believed that these are the stones that were used by Lord Ram and his Vanar Sena to build a bridge (Ram Setu) to Lanka, as described in the Ramayana.

Pamban Bridge

Pamban Bridge

If you look at the map of Rameshwaram, you will realize that Rameswaram is actually an island, surrounded by the waters of the Indian Ocean on all sides. The Pamban Bridge is what connects the island of Rameshwaram to the mainland of India . There is a Railway bridge and a road bridge that run parallel to each other.

The name Pamban Bridge actually refers to the Railway Bridge , however, both are collectively referred to as Pamban Bridge. The official name of the road bridge is Annai Indira Gandhi Road Bridge .

The bridge spans from Mandapam to Pamban , which is the starting point of Rameshwaram. The sight of a train cruising on the 2.2-kilometre-long bridge in the middle of the waters of the Indian ocean is spectacular. The bridge has been featured in many movies including Chennai Express.

The Pamban Bridge offers spectacular views of the Rameshwaram island, and it is a surreal sight to watch the arrival of a train from the road bridge. If you are near the Pamban bridge around sunset, you are treated to a magical sunset.

Rameshwaram Lighthouse | Pamban Lighthouse

Pamban Lighthouse

If you love the romantic aura that envelops lighthouses, you are sure to like the Pamban Lighthouse. It is one of the two lighthouses in Rameshwaram . The original lighthouse dates back to the year 1845. It is located towards the east of the Pamban Bridge.

Vivekananda Memorial House Kundhukal

Vivekananda Memorial House

The Vivekananda Memorial set amidst serene surroundings is a beautiful and fitting tribute to the great mystic and monk, Swami Vivekananda. It is a beautiful and aesthetic structure that stands right opposite the Kundhukal Beach , about 8 kilometres from the Pamban Bridge. The memorial brings alive the stirring life and times of Swami Vivekananda through photographs and images of the monk.

The sunset from the Vivekananda Memorial House in Rameshwaram is also a surreal experience.

Day Two of Rameshwaram Itinerary

If you have decided to spend more time in the hallowed environs of Rameshwaram, which we recommend that you do, and are looking beyond a one day trip to Rameshwaram. We have lined up for you some more of the best places to visit in Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi .

Ramar Patham

Ramar Patham

If you are familiar with the Ramayana, you will know of the incident when Lord Ram stands atop a mountain and surveys the expanse of water stretching out to Lanka. He then decides to build a bridge to Lanka. Ramar Paatham , which literally means, “ Feet of Rama ,” is a temple built on a hillock. It is believed the hillock was a mountain in the times of the Ramayana.

Today the hillock happens to be the highest point in Rameshwaram and offers a panoramic view. The temple has the footsteps of Shri Rama engraved inside a Chakra in rock .

Lakshman Teertha

Lakshman Teertha

The Lakshman Theertha is a pond located not far from the main Rameswaram Temple. According to legend, Lord Ram’s brother Lakshman had installed and worshipped a Shivling here. During the festival known as Thai Poosam, a floating car procession is organized in the Lakshman Theertha.

Jada Theertham

Jada Theertham

The Jada Theertham is a holy pond that is located about 13 kilometres from Rameswaram. It can be visited on the way to Dhanushkodi. There is a small Shiva temple in front of the Jada Theertha. According to legend, Ram and Lakshman washed their Jada/Jata (hair), in this pond before they proceeded to Rameswaram, after killing Ravana in Lanka.

Dhanushkodi

Dhanushkodi

Dhanushkodi , which was once a thriving village on the edge of the southern coast of India is today a ghost town . Ruins of a church, railway station , and other structures can be seen standing forlorn in the sand. Dhanushkodi was completely destroyed during a storm in the year 1964.

Dhanushkodi

The Dhanuskodi Beach makes for a pleasant stroll as a strong wind blows across the Indian ocean. The beach is not very safe for swimming as the currents can be strong.

Rama’s Bridge | Adam’s bridge | Ramar Sethu Palam | Rama Setu

Adam’s bridge

Rama’s Bridge is a land path that is seen beneath the waters of the ocean. It is near the Palk Straits and leads from Rameswaram to current day Sri Lanka. Many believe that this narrow landmass that has been revealed by satellite imagery is the remains of the bridge, which is the bridge that was built by Lord Rama with his Vanara army.

The Rama’s Bridge is also termed as Adam’s Bridge and connects Pamban island in India and Mannar Island in Shri Lanka, along the Palk Strait.

Day Three of Rameshwaram Itinerary

By day 3, you would have definitely fallen deeply in love with the vibes of Rameswaram island . There are still many more beautiful places to visit in Rameshwaram, as part of your sightseeing at Rameswaram .

Ariyamaan Beach | Kushi Beach

Ariyamaan Beach

When it comes to Rameswaram beaches, there are around 7 beaches on the island. The main beaches in Rameshwaram are; Agni Theertham, Dhanushkodi, Ariyamaan, Olaikkuda, Viloondi Theertham, and Pamban beach .

The Ariyamaan Beach which is also known as Kushi Beach is a picturesque beach with gentle waves caressing the shores. A lovely beach getaway that is located about 27 kilometres from Rameswaram.

Abdul Kalam Memorial Museum | House of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam

Abdul Kalam Memorial Museum

If you are in Rameswaram, how can you afford not to visit the house of its most famous resident, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam . The memorial is a tribute to the “Missile Man,” of India. He lies in eternal sleep beneath the memorial. There is a museum that brings alive the inspiring life of one of India’s most loved presidents, through more than 800 paintings and 200 photographs along with other exhibits.

Sea World Aquarium

Sea World Aquarium

The Sea World Aquarium , is a fascinating place, especially for those interested in the creatures of the sea. The Aquarium is located near Rameswaram Bus Stand and close to the Abdul Kalam Memorial Museum . The Aquarium has a range of aquatic and marine life which includes octopus, sea lizard, rabbitfish, clownfish, and parrotfish, among others.

Villoondi Theertham | Villuvandi Theertham

Villoondi Theertham

The Villondi Theertham is a beach and is also one of 64 sacred theerthas or water bodies in Rameswaram. There are 22 of these thirthas within the Ramanathaswamy temple .  What is unique about the Villoondi Theertham is that it is a sweet water spring in the middle of the saline seawater . According to legend, Lord Rama had generated the sweet water spring by shooting an arrow into the sea, to quench the thirst of Sita, on the way to Ayodhya from Lanka.

Wow… Your description is filled with such specifics and precision. I’ll save this for future travels. Loved going through all the pictures. Thank you for going into such detail on each; you’ve done an excellent job with this post.

Your posts are always so enriching and I learn something new with each of them. All the pictures are truly wonderful. Sangumal Beach was truly soothing. I have been to Rameshwaram bu it was a very short trip. Now whoever I will go, I know what all I have to cover.

My parents have visited ramsehwaram few years ago and had a great experience with their trip. somehow, I had missed the chance to join them on this trip. would love to visit this divine place with my family, when visit India next time.

I have been studying about Rameshswaram and the Pamban Bridge since a boy. It’s a curious admixture of the epics, history and geography. I am yet to visit these places but your post was like virtual tour. But now I am even more motivated to see these places for real.

This post has come at the correct timing for me! We are planning for Rameshwaram this summer and even more excited after reading this post!

What a lovely itinerary! Any itinerary that covers the famous Arulmigu Ramanatha Swamy Temple and its outer corridor with 1212 pillars has to be great, isn’t it 😊 I like it that your post also has the best places to visit in Rameshwaram.

A very well researched and detailed blog on the place. Pictures of the temples, bridge and the beach are enticing enough to plan a trip to Rameshwaram.

I have only heard about Rameshwaram but never been there. You have shared a wonderful itinerary and I am sure the trip there would be a splendid one. Hopefully one day I will plan a trip there.

In my childhood, I used to think the Pamban bridge was made by Lord Ram to cross over to Lanka, LOL. Lovely post, as always you have shared the details so well. Rameshwaram is a place to visit once in a lifetime for sure, I would love to take my daughter there for these spectacular places.

Sounds a perfect itinerary buddy. I will love to plan a trip to Rameshwaram once we are hopefully out of the covid situation

The Best Rameshwaram Itinerary – an offbeat Rameshwaram Trip Plan

' src=

Last Updated on October 26, 2023

Welcome to another detailed destination guide to one of my favorite vacation spots in India.

In this post I bring to you the perfect Rameshwaram itinerary and all the information you need for Rameshwaram trip planning.

Located in Tamil Nadu , Rameshwaram (also spelled Rameswaram ) is a holy land of Hindus and is speckled with temples signifying different episodes of Ramayana.

But our 3-day Rameshwaram itinerary was more about exploring the natural beauty of the island through offbeat spots. We visited a couple of temples but skipped some crowded tourist spots.

Follow this itinerary for an offbeat trip to discover the idyllic island of Rameshwaram and its nearby places like Dhanushkodi and Mandapam .

rameshwaram visit plan

We explored in and around Rameshwaram, the nearby region Mandappam and the fabled town of Dhanushkodi in the first two days. The last day was reserved to drive back to Bangalore after the complimentary breakfast at hotel.

The post contains affiliate links for tours, hotels etc. This means if you make any purchase through the links in the post, I may get a commission without any additional cost to you.

A Quick Outline

Day 1- A Road Trip from Bangalore to Rameshwaram

Firstly, I should begin my story by saying that the road-trip from Bangalore to Rameshwaram is the smoothest drive we have ever been on.

More than 80% of the route is a multi-lane highway, with the best roads in India. We started at 4:30 am and reached Rameshwaram by 1 pm, with a pit-stop for breakfast at A2B at the Salem-Madurai Road.

We crossed the temple city of Madurai on our way. You can stop here to see the iconic Meenakshi temple of Madurai.

However, we were constrained by time and didn’t want to stop anywhere else before we reached Mandapam.

We were a little afraid of the retreating monsoon in the south in November, but the clear sky made our day.

Driving Map for Day 1 in Rameshwaram

Our trip to Rameshwaram begins from Kushi Beach in Mandappam. Here is the driving roadmap from there.

rameshwaram visit plan

We also stopped at the Mandappam bird sanctuary on our way but I recommend skipping it in your itinerary.

From Kushi Beach, drive to the Abdul Kalam Memorial, then reach the hotel.

After some rest, drive to the famous Ramanathaswamy Temple . From there drive to Lakshman Teertha and the offbeat beaches of Rameshwaram I’ve mentioned in the detailed itinerary below.

But before that, you may want to download the full map by clicking on the button below if you are driving from Bangalore.

🚙 🚗 Rent a  Zoomcar  for self-driving all the way in Kerala 🚔

If you want to use the public transport to reach Rameshwaram, refer to the FAQ section at the end of the post.

After reaching Kushi beach you can easily use the local auto-rikshaws and buses to commute.

Unlike big cities like Chennai, communication can be a challenge for foreigners in Rameshwaram. So booking a cab or tour is better. I have listed the best tours later in my post.

📲 Getting simcard is difficult in India for foreign nationals. The easiest way to stay connected is with Airalo e-sim . For multi-country trips, you can buy global e-sim valid for 130 countries. 🤳

Mandapam Bird Sanctuary – a let-down

mandapam bird santuary

Mandapam is the gateway to Rameshwaram. It is the last area in mainland India before you cross the Pamban bridge to reach the island.

We took a small diversion to reach the bird sanctuary that we read some raving reviews on popular travel sites. It turns out to be sort of a let-down.

There weren’t too many birds when we went, but we did get some interesting photo subjects here. Aren’t the horses beautiful?

Aryaman Beach at Mandapam

Aryaman Beach, also called Kushi beach in picture. The clean beach with clear water is one of the 8 blue-flag beaches in India.

Our next stop was the Aryaman beach, also known as the Kushi beach resort. There is a nominal entry fee of Rs. 20 to this isolated beach.

The approach road to the beach is rugged but you don’t need a 4-wheel drive for it. Kushi beach is one of the most spectacular beaches in India that I’ve been to.

Yes, the beaches of Dhanushkodi were even better, but we haven’t seen them till then. So, it was indeed a pleasant surprise to be greeted by coastal woods around marsh waters that were followed by clean white sand leading to the Prussian blue sea.

Coastal forest at Kushi Beach in Mandamman. This is where your Rameshwaram itinerary begins

Located in the Palk Bay, this 2 km long stretch of shimmering beach is one of the best places to visit in the Rameshwaram trip.

You can go for a boat-ride at around Rs. 150 for 15 minutes. You can bargain for better rates.

There are many watersports activities that you can engage in on the beach. It’s said that the water is so clean that you can actually see the fish underneath. The water was clean indeed, but we didn’t find fish.

It was a refreshing stop after a long drive with little sleep at night. After this, we drive towards the flyover connecting to Pamban Island, a.k.a Rameswaram.

Pamban Bridge

Pamban Bridge in Rameshwaram

Imagine looking at a train running on a bridge running across the spectacular sea and the bridge opening up to allow the ships to pass through.

That’s the Pamban Bridge, the first sea bridge in India and an engineering marvel in itself.

Constructed over 100 years ago in 1913, Pamban Bridge was also the longest sea bridge in India before the Bandra-Worli Sea link came up in 2009.

I have heard and read so much about it before that there was a great chance for this to be underwhelming. The good news is it was not. Pamban Bridge was love at first sight for me.

I could stand at the flyover all day gazing at the changing colors of the sea on both sides – blue, turquoise, sea-green, orange, red, grey.

There’s a bold warning that the sidewalks of Pamban Flyover are a no-parking zone and that doing so will attract an Rs.600 fine.

A warning that is conveniently ignored by everyone crossing the flyover at least once, despite it being under the traffic police surveillance.

However, at the end of the flyover, there is a marked parking zone where you can safely park your vehicle and spend as much time as you want to.

This is the most amazing photography spot in Rameshwaram.

For first-time visitors who don’t know about the restrictions, the view of the Pamban Bridge from the top is irresistible, and therefore they often tend to park their car or halt for a considerably long time.

Don’t do that. Not just because you can be fined but also because it can be dangerous to do so, especially with kids.

Tips to see the Pamban Bridge:

  • Park your car in the parking zone end of the flyover and always stay on the side-walk
  • Look out for the train running on the bridge, it’s an amazing experience
  • Visit at the time of sunset for a mesmerizing view
  • Take a train to Rameshwaram for a unique experience of crossing the sea by train

Abdul Kalam Memorial Museum

abdul kalam memorial

Who does not love Dr. Abdul Kalam? India’s favorite president, late Abdul Kalam was born in Rameshwaram.

A simple man with the humblest beginnings went on to become the Rocket-Man of India. After an illustrious career in science, he became India’s 11th President and later dedicated his life to teaching and philanthropy.

Abdul Kalam Memorial was our first stop on the island of Rameshwaram. It was constructed at the burial site of Dr. Abdul Kalam and has some of his humble possessions including his “Veena”.

Veena is a musical instrument that is an integral part of Indian classical music.

You can read more about this incredible personality in this book .

The entry to the memorial is free but you are not allowed to bring any camera inside. Phones must be switched off when you are inside the building.

This is a very small museum, but it was a heart-warming experience to learn about the life and exemplary works of the great man again.

Visiting with small children? Check out this resource for planning roadtrip with babies .

Reach Hotel at Rameshwaram

By the time we reached our hotel, it was nearly 2 pm. An important thing to know while planning a trip to Rameshwaram, is that there are only a few hotels that serve non-vegetarian food.

One of them that we found on Zomato was closed all day.

Hyatt Place which is now called Residency Towers Rameshwaram is a 4-star property with a beautiful swimming pool, a modern gymnasium, a spa, and a multi-cuisine Vegetarian restaurant.

So, if you are not too keen on fish and chicken, I’ll recommend Residency Towers Rameshwaram .

Hotel Ashoka and Hotel Ragavendra are the best 3-star properties for accommodation here at a cheaper rate than Hyatt.

Drive to Sri Ramanathawamy Temple

Rameshwaram Temple

After taking some time to freshen up we decided to go out and explore the island on our own.

I did have an itinerary chalked out which had the famous landmarks of Rameshwaram – the Ramanathaswamy Temple, Lakshman Teertha and the five-faced Hanuman temple to name a few.

Ramanathaswamy temple is one of the four Hindu pilgrimage sites (“chardham”) associated with Ramayana, where people come for salvation.

The Ramanathaswamy temple is unmissable in any sightseeing tour to Rameshwaram. The temple has the longest corridor in India with 1212 ornate pillars and 22 holy springs.

The tall gopuram played hide and seek with us throughout the trip as we explored the other places in Rameshwaram.

Considering the queue before the temple and the parking lot, you will need to keep 2-hours aside for visiting Rameshwaram temple.

Olaikuda Beach Park

olaikuda

Olaikuda is a fishing village in Rameshwaram with a park for entertaining tourists. You can go for Kayaking and different types of boat ride in the lake water here.

We walked on the shore observing the fishermen and the tourists kayaking in the blue waters of the lake.

Though they are trying to make it a tourist attraction, the place is still off-the-radar as you can’t find it on TripAdvisor.

Rameshwaram Lighthouse

lighthouse beach

We continued to drive aimlessly towards the land’s end as seen on Google Map, and that’s how we reached the lighthouse beach of Rameshwaram.

This is another fishing village, but there were no tourists here. I loved how the small park near the beach had tree-houses and a well.

The lighthouse was closed when we went but we loved spending time on the desolate beach with no other tourists around.

Lakshman Teertha

Lakshman Teertha - Rameshwaram Itinerary

Near the Ramanathaswamy temple is the Lakshman Teertha. This is a beach where pilgrims take a bath before visiting the Ramanathaswamy temple.

It is also a great place to view the sunset. However, the beach is quite dirty and stinky, unlike all other beaches of Rameshwaram.

I liked the spiritual energy out there, but this is not where I would spend much time.

Sunset at Vivekananda Memorial & Beach

vivekananda park rameshwaram

We drove through the interiors of Rameshwaram while chasing the sunset to another offbeat place in the area.

The Vivekananda Memorial is a beautiful building that stands out for its bright saffron color and a colorful dome.

By the time we reached there, we had already missed the sunset, but we experienced the ethereal dusk at the beach behind.

The Vivekananda memorial itself is small and has only a few photographs and books of Swami Vivekananda, one of the greatest Hindu saints.

The beach here is spectacular and it was a great way to end our really long day.

After watching the changing colors of the sky to our greatest content, we returned to our hotel to retire for the day.

Day2 –Dhanushkodi and offbeat Mandapam

A mesmerizing drive to dhanushkodi.

dhanush2

After an amazing breakfast at Hyatt Place, we started off early to Dhanushkodi . Starting early at around 9 am was the best decision of the day.

The road to Dhanushkodi is one of the most scenic roads in India. Swanked by the ocean on both sides the road goes straight to the border of India.

We read about off-roading and the need to hire jeeps for the same, but that is obsolete information now. As the entire road is not just motorable but is the best-in-class.

There is a check post at the border of Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi as well. Vehicles are allowed to cross it only till around 11 am.

Otherwise, you will need to walk almost 2km in the hot sun or depend on passerby for a lift. After that vehicles can only exit from Dhanushkodi.

So, if you don’t have your own vehicle, it is prudent to go as early in the morning as you can and leave by 11 am. Even if you have your own car, reach early so that you can drive to the beach.

Exploring Dhanushkodi- the Ghost town of India

arichal

Once upon a time, there was a flourishing town called Dhanushkodi . With the Indian Ocean on one side and Bay of Bengal on the other, it was the only landmass separating India from Sri Lanka.

It was the gateway for international trade and pilgrimage. The fishermen families here lived a simple yet happy life.

Then came the cyclone of 1964. A disastrous one that ravaged the town and rendered it uninhabitable. The government declared it “Ghost Town”.

But few families still decided to stay back. It was their home after all.

53 years after the natural disaster the town started attaining significance once again, this time as a tourist attraction.

These families earn their living by fishing and selling coral artifacts to tourists. Stop at the vibrant beach-side markets to buy incredibly cheap souvenirs and eat fresh seafood at the shacks.

Words are not enough to describe how I felt when I first stopped at a random beach of Dhanushkodi before reaching the main tourist beach. This was just a place where we stopped our car on our way to the Dhanushkodi beach. You have to keep 3-4 hours aside for a trip to Dhanushkodi, and it will be the highlight of your Rameshwaram itinerary.

dhanushkodi beach

Of course, we can’t just talk about a trip to Dhanushkodi and not talk about the famous Ram Setu or Adam’s bridge .

There are satellite pictures of a line of stones underneath the sea that connects Dhanushkodi to Sri Lanka.

According to mythology, this is the bridge that Lord Ram created with the help of Vaanar Sena (an army of monkeys) led by Sri Hanuman to cross the sea and reach Lanka.

That is where the mighty Raavan ruled and had kept Sri Ram’s wife Sita captive. Scientific studies have concluded it to be a natural wonder.

However, the carbon-dating of the rocks put the age at 7000-year-old, coinciding with the date of the events of Ramayana.

Ramar Padham

On our way back from Dhanushkodi we stopped at Ramar Padham, the temple of Ram’s feet situated in a hillock called Gandha Madhana Parvatham.

It is considered to be the highest point in Rameshwaram from where you can get a panoramic view of the island.

If you bring your binoculars you can see the Pamban bridge, the Ramanathaswamy temple and the lighthouse from here.

Speedboat ride at seaside park

Speedboating at Pamban Island

After a delicious seafood lunch (finally) at one of the not-so-fancy shacks of Dhanushkodi we came back to our hotel and changed into dry clothes for the second half of the day.

This time we headed straight to Pamban bridge once again, crossed it and reached the seaside park. It’s a small yet beautiful entertainment park that advertises glass-floor boat rides.

The glass-floor boats apparently help you see the fish underneath. A speedboat ride for two costs Rs. 400 (prices as of 2019).

However, when you actually enquire about it, they will tell you straight away that fish sighting is for the rare lucky ones.

They are true. The glass-floor is too soiled for you to be able to see anything underneath.

But that didn’t stop us from enjoying the ride. In fact, this is one of the best things to do on a trip to Rameshwaram.

Chasing the Sundarmudaiyan Fort

After this, we didn’t know where else to go that will be of interest. There are many other places on the tourist map including an aquarium that we could not find.

So instead, we spotted a place for the Sundarmudaiyan Fort and started following the Google maps for it.

On our way, we were surprised to see a peacock in secluded places running around on their own. However, that was the only attraction we found where we went.

We entered a village inside a forest and off-roaded through it, but we couldn’t find the fort anywhere.

Since there was no one around to even ask, we returned and started driving towards the beach.

Erwadi Beach

mandapam peacock

We didn’t know the name of this beach when we went here, and it was only when I looked back on my Google timeline, I found its name.

Once again, this was another quaint fishing village with no tourists around.

We spent time clicking a solo peacock in the coastal woodlands and waiting for it to flaunt its wings. Well, it didn’t.

This is a beautiful beach to visit if you just want to peacefully relax around in the lap of nature.

Sunset at Pamban

sunset

“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.”- Rabindranath Tagore

These are the only words that can describe the dramatic sky of the evening at Pamban. Our last stop was once again the Pamban Flyover itself on our way back to our hotel.

As I stood at the sidewalk of a busy highway and stared at the sunset, the cacophony of traffic faded into oblivion.

For those few minutes I had transcended into a different world, I was there at the horizon seeing off the sun while the clouds lingered by.

This was the end of our long weekend at one of the most spectacular parts of India.

The next day we would have to start early for our home to avoid the infamous Bangalore traffic on a Sunday evening.

We would be back in our mundane life revolving around the office and home. But these memories will keep us motivated to work hard and look forward to traveling again.

We had many road trips throughout the year, but Rameshwaram will always find a special place in my heart. I recommend this as one of the best trips in December in India.

Rameshwaram Tour Packages

A 2-nights, 3-days Rameshwaram tour will typically cost you Rs. 6000/- Rs. 10000 from Madurai or Chennai. The cost depends on whether you are going for a private trip or a small-group tour, the type of vehicle etc.

Check out the various options for Rameshwaram Tour and their prices here

For a first-time visitor from outside South India, I highly recommend these tours. Rameshwaram is after-all an offbeat place that is away from the main-land and might be challenging to navigate on your own.

My Top Picks

  • Reach Rameshwaram by train or bus, and then take a heritage walking tour
  • Curated day trip from Madurai at Rs. 3000 per person for a group of 3

Rameshwaram FAQs

So, are you excited to visit Rameshwaram? Here are some common questions that I’ve answered to make you planning easier.

If you still have more questions fill free to ask in the comments or join my Facebook community to post your travel queries, experiences etc.

How to reach Rameswaram by public transport?

The best way to reach Rameshwaram is by train from Chennai or Madurai to Rameshwaram.

The train will cross the narrow sea through the 100-year-old Pamban bridge – an experience worth visiting India for.

Chennai, located 600 km from Rameshwaram, is the nearest big international airport.

It is followed by Bangalore which is 606 km from Rameshwaram.

However, there is no direct train from Bangalore to Rameshwaram. You have to take a train to Trichy and then get a local train or hire a cab to Rameshwaram.

Direct buses (government-run as well as private) ply from Bangalore to Madurai or Rameshwaram daily.

If you go to Madurai first, then you can take a local train or hire a cab to Rameshwaram.

Which is the best month to visit Rameshwaram ?

The best time to visit Rameshwaram is during the winter, that is, late November to early January . Overall, the weather here is hot, hotter, hottest round-the-year. So, plan your trip in the winter.

August to October is typically rainy season. It is a tricky time to visit Rameshwaram. Sure, the temperatures cool down and you can see a rainbow while across the two seas. But incessant rainfalls can be dangerous in this area.

The rest of the year in Rameshwaram is just hot, hotter and hottest. That’s not a great time to enjoy the beaches and go for outdoor adventures in this place.

How many days are enough for Rameshwaram ?

If you want to follow our itinerary, you need to have three days, considering one-day for returning to your hometown.

Two full days are needed to see all the best places in Rameshwaram , spend some time in the beaches and watch the sunset from the bridge.

However, if you want to club Madurai and Rameshwaram on a single trip, you will need three – four days .

What to eat in Rameswaram?

Owing to its religious significance for Hindus, most restuarants in Rameswaram serve pure vegetarian food.

Idli, Dosa, Uthapam, Sambar, Vada- you will enjoy various Tamilian delicacies here.

However, for great fish you must visit Dhanushkodi. The beach shacks in Dhanushkodi offer fresh fish and crabs.

Rameswaram 2 days itinerary – places to visit in Rameswaram

Today, we bring you a perfect Rameswaram 2 days itinerary!! Year end 2021, we made a plan to visit Rameswaram along with exploring the temples of Madurai , the Chettinad Tourist places including the Karaikudi houses and the Thanjavur Big Temple . It was a compact 5 days trip from Bangalore . So, we only spent a day in Rameswaram. And could only visit the Ramalingeshwara Temple there. But there were so many other places to visit in Rameswaram that we couldn’t, including a trip to Dhanushkodi.

rameshwaram visit plan

Luckily, just over a year after that, we got a chance to make another trip to Rameswaram. So, this time, we decided to make it a Rameswaram 2 days itinerary. Thus exploring most of the places to visit in Rameswaram over these two days. So, here’s our Rameswaram 2 days itinerary, with the places to visit in the order mentioned. Assuming you will be visiting Rameswaram from Madurai like we did.

Table of Contents

Day 1 of Rameswaram 2 days Itinerary

Madurai to rameswaram trip.

We took a road trip from Bangalore to Madurai the day before. Upon reaching Madurai, we visited the Meenakshi Amman Temple . And stayed overnight at Kfour Apartments and Hotel which was very near to the highway. The next day we took a road trip from Madurai to Rameswaram which is throughout on NH 87.

The road condition is good. Half of the NH 87 from Madurai to Rameswaram is 4 lane while the other half is 2 lane. Overall , it takes around 3 hours to reach Rameswaram from Madurai. Around 15 kilometers before the bridge to Rameswaram, we stopped at this hotel for lunch.

Post lunch, we drove to the bridge. And stopped on the bridge for some beautiful snaps of the Pamban Island from here.

rameshwaram visit plan

There after we crossed the bridge to enter the Pamban Island and continued on NH 87. The town of Rameswaram is around 8km inside the Pamban Island. And our hotel, S S Grand hotel , is located on the NH 87 itself. So, we first checked in into the hotel. By around 3:30 pm, we had settled in our room, freshened up and ready to start our trip of Rameswaram.

Exploring Dhanushkodi

We decided to explore Dhanushkodi for the rest of the day today. The ghost town of Dhanushkodi is located on the extension of NH 87, also called Rameswaram – Dhanushkodi road. A cyclone in the year 1964 destroyed this town and submerged major parts of it. The ruins of the old town buildings can be seen here. Moreover, driving through that last stretch of road with the Indian ocean flocking on one side and the Bay of Bengal on the other is an experience of it’s own. Further, 5km from the town of Dhanushkodi you reach the end of land in India – the Dhanushkodi beach.

rameshwaram visit plan

There are several things to do on a trip to Dhanushkodi. Including excellent photography, enjoying seafood, spending quality time on the Dhanushkodi beach, exploring the ruins of the ghost town of Dhanushkodi, and much more. Here’s our complete blog post on our trip to Dhanushkodi.

A complete guide to visit Dhanushkodi

After a wonderful trip to Dhanushkodi from Rameswaram, we returned back to our hotel by evening. Thereafter we had an early dinner and called it a day. As we planned to start our day early to explore rest of the places to visit in Rameswaram.

Day 2 of Rameswaram 2 days Itinerary

Day 2 of our Rameswaram 2 days itinerary was the day when we decided to explore most of the places to visit in Rameswaram. And this is how we planned our day.

Ramanathaswamy Temple Rameswaram

The first and foremost place to visit in Rameswaram is definitely Ramanasthawamy Temple in Rameswaram. Ramanathaswamy Temple is one of the most important temples of the Hindus. As it is considered one of the 4 most important pilgrimage destinations, the “ Char Dham “. And it is believed that a Hindu who visits all 4 dhamas in his or her life attains to salvation. But apart from being one of the 4 dhams, the Ramanathaswamy temple is also one of the jyotirlingas of Shiva. So, that makes it all the more important.

rameshwaram visit plan

As a result, the temple sees a lot of rush all through the year. Visiting in early morning hours gives one the benefit of less crowd. So, we visited here early in the morning. We started from our hotel at around 6:30am. And we were able to complete our temple visit and be back to our hotel by 8:30am. So, it really paid off to wake up early and visit this temple.

Ramalingeshwara Temple timing : 6:00am to 12:00pm , 4:00pm to 8:00pm

Agniteertham

Right besides Ramanathaswamy temple lies the Agniteertham, on the banks of the ocean. Taking a dip into the water here is believed to relieve one of their sins.

After visiting the temple and Agniteertham, we had breakfast at our hotel. Post breakfast, we visited rest of the places, except Villoondi Teertham on foot. As they were all at walking distance from the hotel.

Visiting Lakshmana Theertham

rameshwaram visit plan

The first site that we visited from our hotel post breakfast was Lakshmana Teertham. In Rameswaram and around it, there are around 64 holy theerthas out of which 22 are located in the complex of Sri Ramanathaswamy temple. Lakshmana Theertham is one of the few which is located outside the main temple complex. This temple is located to Lord Lakshmana, the brother of Lord Rama.

The Lakshmana Theertham is built in Dravidian style of architecture. It has a beautiful, colorful corridor, which feels like a mini version of the largest corridor of Ramanathaswamy Temple. Inside, there are idols of Lord Rama, Lord Lakshmana, and Goddess Sita. Also, the temple has a pond besides it, with a mandapa in the center. Overall it is a beautiful and significant temple to include in the list of places to visit in Rameswaram on your Rameswaram 2 days itinerary.

rameshwaram visit plan

Lakshmana Theertham Temple timing : 6:00am to 12:00pm , 4:00pm to 8:00pm

Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple

Barely 200 meters from Lakshmana Temple lies the temple of Panchmukhi Hanuman, which has a tall idol of Lord Hanuman. The word “Panchmukhi” literally means “five faced” and this idol of Lord Hanuman contains 5 faces, hence the Temple name. Overall, Rameswaram is all about Ramayana and it’s characters. So, no wonder there are temples dedicated to Lakshmana, Hanumana, Sita and other important Ramayana Gods and Goddess apart from Sri Rama.

rameshwaram visit plan

House of A P J Abdul Kalam

A significant person whose homeland was Rameswaram was India’s famous scientist and president, Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam . There is a memorial on NH 87 built in the memory and honour of Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, right when you enter Rameswaram. Also, you can visit his house, which is hardly 500 meters from the Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple. And if time permits, you can also visit his burial ground.

rameshwaram visit plan

Villoondi Teertham

A very special place to include in your Rameswaram 2 days itinerary is Villoondi Teertham – a sweet water lake that sprouts right in the middle of the ocean from nowhere like a mystery unresolved!! Legends say that Lord Rama created this lake for his army to drink water while they were working on building the Ram Setu. The Ram Setu being the bridge connecting the Pamban Island to Sri Lanka, where his wife Sita was kept captive by Ravana.

Villoondi Teertham is located around 6 km from the above attractions. And you can easily hire an autorickshaw which will take you to the spot.

Overall, we completed a visit to all these places in a couple of hours. And then came back to our hotel. The hotel checkout time was around 12pm. So, around this time, we checked out and started our trip back to Madurai. Because we wanted to halt for the night at Madurai. And continue our journey from Madurai to Bangalore the next day. In case you can spend one more night in Rameswaram, you can take a lot more time to explore all the above destinations all through the day. And also, visit some more places like the Seetha Theertham, The Olaikuda beach, Ariyaman beach and several other temples.

General information on visiting Rameswaram

rameshwaram visit plan

Where to stay in Rameswaram

Rameswaram has several hotels, most of them are in the mid to small budget range. Then there are also Oyo rooms and hostels available at very cheap prices. We have stayed at Daiwik Hotel on our first trip to Rameswaram and in S S Grand hotel on our second trip to Rameswaram. Both these hotels are located right on NH 87 which makes getting into the town and moving out easy. Also, since we have travelled in our own vehicle both the times, these hotels had ample parking space, which was one of our requirements. Here’s a list of hotels in Rameswaram from our partner site that you can browse to book one.

How to reach Rameswaram

One can conveniently reach Rameswaram from Madurai via NH 87. One can also reach Rameswaram from Chettinad Region and Karaikudi , the roads are in excellent condition. Since Madurai is a major town of Tamil Nadu, it is well connected to the rest of India via road, rail and air network. So, one can conveniently reach Madurai. And then either drive to Rameswaram or take a train to Rameswaram via the famous Pamban Bridge. We drove from Bangalore to Madurai on NH 44 and then further drove from Madurai to Rameswaram on NH 87.

rameshwaram visit plan

A trip to Rameswaram via the railways is also one of the most famous ways of reaching Rameswaram. Since it is an experience in itself to travel over the Pamban Bridge which is the only rail bridge in India built over an ocean – a marvel of the engineering excellence in India.

What is the best season to visit Rameswaram

The winter season is the best time to visit Rameswaram. As the temperature in Rameswaram remains moderately hot in this time, ranging from 25 degree to 30 degree celcius. In rainy season, when it rains heavily, you might be able to visit Dhanushkodi. Same is the case if there are predictions of cyclone, which often happen to arrive in this area around the year end time. So, check the weather predictions before visiting. The summer months of March onwards might see slight rise in the mercury, making it uncomfortable to explore around during the day.

With this, we conclude our Rameswaram 2 days itinerary details and the list of places to visit in Rameswaram. Hope it helps you plan your trip to Rameswaram. Ramanathaswamy Temple

Ramanathaswamy temple is a popular place of worship and prominent tourist attraction in rameshwaram. the shrine is dedicated to lord shiva and is one of the twelve jyotirlinga temples in india..

rameshwaram visit plan

Ramanathaswamy temple is known for its imposing structure, majestic towers, intricate sculptural  works and corridors, making it an architectural marvel. The main deity worshipped in the temple is in the form of lingam. There is also an idol of Nandi, which is a massive statue, about 17.5 feet tall. Other deities worshipped here include Goddess Vishalakshi, Parvathavardhini, Lord Vinayaka and Lord Subrahmanya, Utsava idol, Sayanagriha and Perumal.

The legend behind the temple is associated with Lord Rama from the Indian epic Ramayana. It is believed that Lord Rama, after defeating the demon king Ravana, wanted to worship Lord Shiva as part of atonement. He asks Hanuman to bring him a Linga from Kashi. When Hanuman delayed his return, Goddess Sita made a Shivalinga using sand so that Rama could offer his prayers. It is believed that the self-same Shiva Linga, known as Ramalingam, is now worshipped at the Ramanathaswamy temple. The lingam brought by Hanuman from Kailash is called Vishwalingam.

There are 22 Theerthams (holy water bodies) inside the temple where devotees bathe to atone for their sins.

Best Rameshwaram Tour Packages in 2024

Discover the magic of rameshwaram with exciting rameshwaram tour packages.

Located at the southeastern tip of Tamil Nadu, Rameshwaram is a town that is part of an island named Pamban whose foundation is believed to be laid by Lord Rama. Various accounts suggest that Lord Rama built a floating stone bridge from Rameshwaram to reach Ceylon, present-day Sri Lanka.

Many Rameshwaram tour packages take you through all such places of mythological and historical importance in and around this town of India. You can also get a Bangalore to Rameshwaram package for a spiritual getaway from the IT hub of the country. Further, you can book a holiday package that lets you explore the mysterious place completely.

Rameshwaram Tourism: Best Places to Visit

If you have come from Chennai via a Chennai to Rameshwaram bus (travel time: 8-9 hours), you may want to take some rest. After that, here are a few places to visit:

  • Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple - Popularly known as the Rameshwaram temple, it is the destination that tops the list of most Rameshwaram tour packages. It is extremely difficult to choose between this temple’s historical and mythological importance and decide which one weighs more. The perfect mix of colossal architecture and spiritual significance, a tour of the Rameshwaram temple would take at least 3 to 4 hours. There is no requirement of an entry fee to visit this temple. However, one might need a guide to take them through all the places inside the temple. The Rameshwaram temple is one of the most significant places to witness and one must include it in his/her tour packages.
  • Dhanushkodi - Situated in a beach town that is sparsely populated, Dhanushkodi is one of the must-include destinations in your Rameshwaram tour packages. Although it is almost 25 km away from Rameshwaram, a private vehicle, auto or jeep would take you there. This beautiful beach town has an appearance similar to that of ruin due to a violent storm that hit the shores of Tamil Nadu in 1964. Since its destruction, the Tamil Nadu government has rebuilt the town and given it a new identity. The very emptiness in its air speaks volumes about the place and the exhilarating solitude it brings. Not visiting Dhanushkodi would be a great miss in your Rameshwaram tour packages.
  • Jatayu Tirtham - The holy temple should be a part of your Rameshwaram tour packages. Unlike the regular temples, this one is built in the fond memory of Lord Rama’s loyal eagle, Jatayu that died trying to save Sita from Ravana. As the myth suggests, Jatayu must have been buried in this place and hence, a temple had been built around it where people can offer their prayers.
  • Villoondi Tirtham - This is a natural water body considered sacred due to its deep-rooted connection with the Legend of Ramayana. Leaving aside the spiritual significance, Villoondi Tirtham is a place that attracts tourists due to its scenic beauty. The calm and quiet environment around the wide stretch of sand is a refreshing experience. In addition to this, there is spring inside the sea which makes this place unique from the rest. It is believed that Lord Rama had shot an arrow to create this spring to quench people’s thirst. One among the 64 tirtham, Villoondi Tirtham is around 7 km from Rameshwaram and can be accessed via private and public vehicles. All in all, Villoondi Tirtham is one of the holy and scenic places to include in your Rameshwaram tour packages.

Rameshwaram Tourism: Local Dishes to Try

You may reach Rameshwaram using a Bangalore to Rameshwaram package or from Chennai via a bus. The Chennai to Rameshwaram bus travel time is around 8 hours. However, even in that time, the cuisine seems to have acquired few local changes:

  • South Indian Food - A wide variety of affordable restaurants serves South Indian food, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Pepper slashes, chicken curry, and keema vada are few delicacies that non-vegetarian lovers must try. Dosa, vada, and idli are among the vegetarian delights that must not go missing in your Rameshwaram tour packages. The authentic and magical taste of the coconut-flavoured chutney along with dosa should be experienced once you are in Rameshwaram.
  • Seafood - Rameshwaram, surrounded by waters on all sides, gives tourists a variety of fish, prawns and crab dishes. While travelling to Dhanushkodi from Rameshwaram, try fish curry with a dash of raw mango at a shack on the beach. Enjoying food at these shacks is an experience that must be included in your Rameshwaram tour packages. To add to the culinary experience, cuttlefish, baby octopus and crab meat are also available.
  • Meen Kozhambu - Another local delight to try out in Rameshwaram, meen khozhambu is predominantly a Chettinad fish curry that belongs to the Chettinad cuisine of a community named Nattukotai Chettiars from Tamil Nadu. This redfish curry is tangy and spicy. To add some more flavour to it, raw mango is used apart from the regular condiments. To have tried this while enjoying your Rameshwaram tour packages would surely be a tale to share.
  • Gujarati Food - Despite being the southernmost tip of the country, one can find dominant traces of Gujarati cuisine. The spiritual devotees who prefer only vegetarian food can enjoy both South Indian and Gujarati food here. Ahaan, Gujarati Bhojanalya and Anand Bhavan are few places that serve authentic pure vegetarian food. While you are visiting temples and offering prayers, tasting such unique Gujarati thalis is a memorable experience to have in your Rameshwaram tour packages.

Rameshwaram Tourism: Top Things to Do

  • Taking a Dip in a tirtham - A dip in any one of these holy tirtham must be part of your Rameshwaram tour packages. It is said that bathing in this holy water or essentially dipping your head in it washes away one’s sins.
  • Kite Surfing - Very few people know that Rameshwaram is one of the best kite surfing destinations in India. So, if you want to try out something exhilarating, then include this activity in your Rameshwaram tour packages. Also, this is a Rameshwaram tourism endeavour that offers a wholesome experience to tourists.
  • Stand at the Edge of India - You can walk on Arichal Munai, the border between India and Sri Lanka and know what it feels like to stand at the very edge of a country. The land stretches over 18 nautical miles and is filled with chains of limestone shells.
  • Take a Train Ride over Pamban Bridge - Pamban Bridge is the second-longest sea bridge in India. The bridge is very low and close to the water thus allowing a better view of the water and the sailing boats. Opportunities to enjoy a train ride over it are available in many Rameshwaram tour packages.

Souvenirs to Lookout For

Rameshwaram tour packages are incomplete without offering opportunities to shop for souvenirs. You can get a variety of gift items such as pure silk clothes and sarees, handicrafts, textile items and various statues of gods and goddesses. A few Rameshwaram tour packages may also include a visit to special shops to get different and unique souvenirs.

Rameshwaram Travel Guide 2022 | The Most Charming Small Town in Tamil Nadu

PAMBAN BRIDGE IN TAMIL NADU, BY AJAY KUMAR

Rameshwaram Travel Guide – In the Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve, a stunning island city known as Rameshwaram serves as a place of pilgrimage. This peaceful and reverent city is a well-known tourist destination for Indians and is situated in the sea between India and Sri Lanka.

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Rameshwaram is a magnificent Hindu temple, located in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. Rameshwaram is a Sanskrit word,  Ram + Eshwaram,  which means a place where Eshwar (Lord Shiva) is worshipped by Lord Ram.

Rameshwaram: A Brief Introduction

Rameshwaram attracts people for tourism because it connects India to the mainland through the Pamban Bridge. Rameshwaram has a significant role in the Ramayana because here many details about the Ramayana are given.

The Ramayana is one of the greatest ancient epics in world literature that narrates the life of Lord Ram.

Rameshwaram, situated in the Southeast of India, is one of the holiest Hindu Char Dham (four holy sites) for pilgrimage. Rameshwaram is one of India’s consecrated cities, together with Varanasi.

In addition to its spiritual value, the small town makes for an attractive vacation destination. Rameshwaram, located at the point of the Indian peninsula, rejuvenates your soul with its breathtakingly magnificent beaches, stunning Mannar Island, and several local attractions like wildlife and water sports.

History of Ramanathaswamy Temple

Of the four Dhams, Rameshwaram is the only one where Lord Shiva is the resident deity. There are many legends about the history of Ramanathaswamy Temple and its establishment.

In Hinduism, the story of this holy shrine is associated with the return of Lord Ram to Lanka. Let us talk about the history of Rameshwaram Dham and the tales associated with it.

Legends of Ramayana

Before we understand the story, we should recognize the main characters of Ramayana, named  Ram, Lakshman, Sita, Ravana, and Hanuman .

Ram:  Ram, sometimes known as Ramachandra or Raman, is a central character in Hinduism. He was the seventh and one of the most well-known incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

According to legend, Ram was born to Kaushalya and Dasharatha at Ayodhya, the capital of the Kosala Kingdom. Shatrughna, Bharata, and Lakshman were his siblings, and Sita was his wife.

Despite being born into a royal family, his existence was depicted in Hindu texts as being complicated by unforeseen events like an exile into destitute and challenging conditions, ethical issues, and moral questions.

The most prominent of their troubles was when the demon king, Ravana, abducted Sita. Allegorically, the complete life story of Ram, Sita, and their friends explore obligations, rights, and social responsibilities. Through role models, it illustrates Dharma and Dharmic living.

Lakshmana:  In the Hindu epic Ramayana, Lakshmana, the younger brother of Prince Ram and his supporter, is referred to as one who had the indications of fortune.

The Ramayana portrayed Lakshmana as a man who showed his elder brother unshakable loyalty, love, and commitment during both happy and tough times.

Ram is reported to have given his brother Lakshmana the Bandhavgarh Fort in Madhya Pradesh so that he could keep an eye on Lanka (Bandhav means brother and Garh means fort). Today, Bandhavgarh Fort is situated in Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, India.

Sita:  Devi Sita, Lord Ram’s wife, is a well-known Hindu Goddess known for her bravery, purity, dedication, loyalty, and sacrifice. In Ramayana, she is a calm and silent embodiment of power.

As a mother, daughter, and wife, she exemplifies commitment. She persevered through the hardships of her life with courage and strength.

Ravana:  One of the main demons in Hindu mythology that fought the well-known Avatar Ram was Ravana, whose name means ‘of frightening roar’ in Sanskrit.

The Ramayana features Ravana prominently. As a king of Lanka, he ruled over an army of demons (Rakshasas) and abducted Sita.

Ramayana describes the legendary conflict between Ravana and Ram, which took place as a result of Ravana’s conceit towards the Gods and inappropriate behaviour towards Sita.

Hanuman:  Hanuman is a Hindu Deity and the divine Vanara (monkey) friend of Ram. He is a Chiranjivi and a fervent follower of Lord Ram.

In order to assist Ram and retrieve his wife Sita from the evil Ravana (king of Lanka), Hanuman led the monkeys.

According to Hindu legend, Hanuman is the eleventh manifestation of Lord Shiva.

Story Based on Epic Ramayana

We all have heard about the Ramayana earlier. The King of Lanka, Ravana, abducted Sita by deceit. That is why Lord Ram attacked Lanka and killed Ravana. Since Ravana was a Brahmin, Ram was accused of killing a Brahmin. To get rid of this allegation, Ram worshipped Lord Shiva.

But there was no temple at all, so Ram sent his trusted lieutenant Hanuman to the Himalayas to bring Shivlinga. Hanuman took a long time to return, so Sita constructed a Shivlinga out of sand. Lord Ram worshipped Shiva with full rituals, which is believed to be the sanctum of the temple.

Later, Hanuman brought a lingam there too. A Shivlinga crafted by Sita, known as Ramalinga, and a Shivlinga delivered by Hanuman, known as Vishwalinga or Kasilinga. Both reside in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, and the Vishwalinga is worshipped first, even now.

Architecture of Ramanathaswamy Temple

One of the Hinduism’s most important sanctuaries, Rameshwaram Dham, is a magnificent example of its grandeur, antiques, and architecture.

The temple was constructed in Dravidian architecture. The corridors inside the temple are expanded between 400 feet and 650 feet in the south and north directions. It contains hundreds of enormous pillars, each of which is ornamented with distinctive bell boots.

Stones were transported from Sri Lanka for this temple’s construction. The world’s longest corridor is found in this shrine, and that is the reason for its attraction to thousands of tourists.

God Worshipped in Rameshwaram

On Rameswaram island, Ramanathaswamy Temple is a Hindu shrine to God Shiva. One of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples, the 11th Jyotirlinga Rameshwaram is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Significance of 22 Wells in Rameshwaram

There are 22 wells within the Ramanathaswamy Temple, and bathing in any of them is auspicious. Bathing in Agni Tirtha, the temple’s primary kund, is viewed as both extremely fruitful and immoral. Scientists claim that there are various metals mixed in these Kunds, from that body’s diseases are eliminated, and fresh energy is made available.

Temple Opening Hours

Temple aarti and timings, dress code in temple complex.

There is not any specific attire that must be worn in the Rameswaram Temple. South Indian Temples make no suggestions on attire, but at Rameswaram Temple, jeans are not permitted. You can wear any formal attire, but for men, a Dhoti or Pyjamas are preferred.

Sarees or Chudidars are appropriate for women. The main requirement for ladies is that they wear a stole or dupatta; otherwise, the guards may refuse to let them in.

Dhanushkodi.

Dhanushkodi, the very last stoppage of India, is also famous as the starting point of Ram Setu (Setu means bridge). This magical land is surrounded by water on three sides which now houses only a small number of people.

Due to the 1964 Rameshwaram storm, the entire town was demolished, and as a result, it became regarded as an abandoned or ghost town but blessed with a picturesque seaside. For a mystical experience, we urge you to add Dhanushkodi to your travel itinerary.

It is believed that Lord Ram destroyed the Ram Setu by using his bows (Dhanus) and arrows (Kodi). His army crossed the bridge to reach Lanka during the successful battle against Ravana.

According to Hindu scriptures, Vibhishana (the younger brother of Ravana) requested Lord Ram to destroy the bridge when Sita was brought back from Lanka. Ram then used one end of his bow to break the bridge, giving it the name Dhanushkodi.

Click here to know all about  Dhanushkodi.

Ram Setu is a chain of limestone shoals that starts at Dhanushkodi of the Indian Pamban Island and ends at Mannar Island in Sri Lanka.

It is also known as Adam’s Bridge, Ram’s Bridge, Nala Setu, and Setu Banda.

According to the epic Ramayana, the Deity Ram built the bridge with the help of his Vanara (ape-men) army in order to travel to Lanka and save his wife Sita from the Rakshasa monarch, Ravana. At the same time, other scientists think that this is a limestone-based natural bridge.

Ram Setu may be considered as a national heritage monument soon.

Pamban Rail Bridge

Prior to the inauguration of the Bandra-Worli Sea Connection in 2010, it was the first and longest sea bridge in India which was built in 1914.

Let us keep you abreast of the latest developments on Pamban Bridge, one of the most spectacular sights in India.

Currently, the rail bridge is a typical bridge supported by 143 concrete piers, but it incorporates a double-leaf bascule portion in the middle that can be lifted to allow ships and barges to pass.

The century-old Pamban bridge had numerous damages earlier and because it is the only link between the mainland and Rameshwaram, engineering repairs are needed urgently.

Due to this, Indian Railways has already begun the construction on the new Pamban Bridge with state-of-the-art technology. Once completed, it will become India’s first Vertical Lift Railway Sea Bridge.

  • The new Pamban bridge stretches for 2.05 km.
  • Indian Railways is spending 250 crores on its construction.
  • It will allow trains at a faster speed and will have a single girder.
  • It will boast a 63-metre span, that will lift parallelly to provide access to the ships.
  • It is expected to be ready for use by December 2022.

Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple

Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple as known as five-faced Hanuman Temple in Rameshwaram is popular in India and it is located at a distance of 2 km from the Ramanathaswamy Temple.

This small temple houses the floating stones of the same kind that were used to build the bridge to Lanka in the Ramayana, which is an appealing feature.

According to legend, when Hanuman entered Patal Lok in search of Ram and Lakshmana during the war between Lord Ram and demon Ravana, he discovered that the five lamps, which were positioned in various directions, represented the life of Ahiravana, Ravana’s brother.

Ahiravana was the king of Patal Lok and Ravana had sought help from him. Only by simultaneously extinguishing each of the five lamps, Ahiravana was capable of being killed.

In order to accomplish this, Lord Hanuman appeared as Panchmukhi Hanuman and put out all the lamps at once. The statues of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita are also on the display at the temple.

Villondi Theertham

Villoondi means ‘buried bow’ and theertham means ‘a sacred waterbody’ in Tamil.

Located 7 km from the main bus terminal, it is best known for its sweet and holy water. It is believed that Lord Ram made this theertham to quench the thirst of Sita by dipping the bow into the sea water, hence the theertham is called as Villondi Theertham.

One of the beaches in Rameshwaram, Villondi Theertham is close to a modest Shiva shrine. The presence of a freshwater spring that is immersed in the ocean makes this place even more unique.

Lakshmana Theertham

The distance between Lakshmana Theertham and the Rameshwaram temple is just 1 km. It is close to Gandhamandhana Parvatham, and Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple.

Lakshmana Theertham is located alongside the temple dedicated to Lord Lakshmana. It was constructed in the Dravidian architectural style. The idols of Lord Ram, Lord Lakshmana, and Goddess Sita were carved into the temple.

The Thaipusam celebration, dedicated to Lord Murugan (Kartikeya), is another appealing aspect of this trip.

Gandhamandhana Parvatham

Kailash Mountain in the Himalayas is to the north, as is Gandhamandhana Mountain. On the Gandhamandhana mountain, a temple has also been constructed, where Hanuman’s idol is placed among those of Shri Ram and other deities.

According to mythology, Lord Ram used to plan combat tactics on this mountain while surrounded by his army of monkeys. According to folklore, this peak has the imprints of Lord Ram, therefore the name Ram Foot or Ram Theertham.

Located at a distance of 3 km, it is considered to be the highest point in Rameshwaram so you can witness the breathtaking aerial view of Rameshwaram Island and sunset/sunrise views are captivating here.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam National Memorial

A mausoleum was inaugurated in honour of Late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the 11th President of India, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2017.

Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) created the memorial as a tribute to Kalam and to highlight the rich cultural history and ethnic diversity of India.

The main entrance gateway is similar to Delhi’s India Gate. A bronze statue of Kalam playing the Veena is housed in the main dome, which is reminiscent of one of Rashtrapati Bhavan’s central domes.

Born and raised in Rameshwaram, Dr. Kalam is known as the Missile Man of India. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam aptly stated that “Rameswaram has, since antiquity, been an important pilgrimage destination.”

What a Nomad Traveller Says about Pamban?

Take a moment to picture yourself riding a train over an aging sea bridge as the corroded and extremely ancient iron pillars of the bridge are being constantly battered by the waves. How will your mind respond?

Will your heart briefly cease beating? To be completely honest, I was rather anxious when I attempted something similar while riding the train across the perilous Pamban Bridge. But at the same time, I also had excitement!

Besides being risky, the train ride across the Pamban Bridge is also spectacular. No doubt, this bridge is an architectural wonder.

I am going to describe the glimpses of my mind of this exhilarating railway ride which I had from Madurai to Rameshwaram.

I was travelling from Madurai to Rameshwaram, so I hopped on a train from Madurai. Until I caught a few glimpses of the water just before arriving in Pamban, the three-and-a-half-hour trip was quite dull and routine.

To get the finest view of the train crossing the water, I hurried to the doors. Although doing so is prohibited, but there are occasions when it becomes hard to control oneself in the face of something really compelling.

Then suddenly train speed has been reduced drastically and all the passengers understood why the train’s speed had been significantly reduced. Then, I found myself above the water. Both sides were incredibly beautiful. I received a much relaxation from the sight of the azure ocean. The infinite water could be seen in all directions of the train.

The sight of the waves crashing against the bridge’s arches thrilled me. The corrosion on the pillars and the fences of the bridge frightened me even more.

Even though the train was traveling slowly, it was becoming more and more challenging to stand upright. While flying over the ocean, I captured some breathtaking scenery on my camera. Undoubtedly, it was a really overwhelming experience! The Pamban train was thrilling.

We hope you are fully informed on Rameshwaram, including the most recent Pamban Bridge updates and the best places to stay close to the Ramanathaswamy Temple.

Remember, no trip to Rameswaram is complete without a beautiful drive alongside Pamban Bridge.

We’d like to wish you a joyful and safe voyage! In terms of natural beauty, Rameshwaram has a lot to offer, especially Dhanushkodi. It is not merely a spiritual destination.

The Complete Guide to Visit 22 Wells of Ramanathaswamy Temple in Tamil Nadu

Do you know about 22 wells inside the corridor of the famous Ramanathaswamy Temple of Rameswaram? Yes, it's right! Ramanathaswamy Temple is the temple of Lord Vishnu with a gold-plated roof. This blog covers each of the 22 wells along with the architectural history, importance, and other interesting facts. This blog is the most comprehensive guide available on the internet to help to plan your visit to Ramanathaswamy Temple.

Mythological Backstory of the Temple

The holy book Ramayana had mentioned that after Lord Ram killed Lanka king Raavan in the battle, he decided to repent for his actions. Lord Ram was believed to be an incarnation of God Vishnu on Earth. The wicked king of Lanka was a Brahmin. Due to this reason, repentance was more necessary. He requested his devotee, Lord Hanuman to bring lingam (a symbolic representation of God Shiva) from the Himalayas so that he could pray there.

Looking at his eagerness, his wife Goddess Sita decided to make a lingam out of sand for Lord Ram's prayer arrangements. That's the reason, you can view two lingams in Rameswaram Temple. One is Ramalinga, created by Goddess Sita and another one is Vishwalinga, brought by Lord Hanuman.

It was believed that there were 22 arrows in the quiver of Lord Ram. You can take blessings of water from these 22 wells located in the corridor of Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple.

Places to visit in Rameswaram in a 2-day itinerary vacation plan

Below is the listing of those places in Rameswaram that are worth visiting. Let’s start with:

1. Adam’s Bridge or Ram Setu

Biden Bashes Trump as a Pawn of Billionaires as He Lays Out His Tax Plan

Speaking in Scranton, Pa., his hometown, the president used a speech about economic fairness as a new avenue of attack against his Republican rival, who was in a courtroom two hours away.

Biden Digs at Trump During His Pennsylvania Hometown Visit

In a speech about his tax plan, president biden compared scranton, pa., to trump’s mar-a-lago to highlight the different economic and social values between america’s middle class and its wealthy..

We’re not asking anything as unusual. Under my plan, nobody earning less than $400,000 will pay an additional penny. I hope you’re all able to make $400,000. I never did. You know, I have to say, if Trump’s stock in Truth Social — his company — drops any lower, he might do better under my tax plan than his. [laughter] No billionaire should pay a lower tax rate than a teacher, a nurse, a sanitation worker. Folks, where we come from matters. When I look at the economy, I don’t see it through the eyes of Mar-a-Lago. I see it through the eyes of Scranton. And that’s not hyperbole, that’s a fact. Donald Trump looks at the world differently than you and me. He wakes up in the morning in Mar-a-Lago thinking about himself. How he can help his billionaire friends gain power and control, and force their extreme agenda on the rest of us.

Reporting from Scranton, Pa.

  • Published April 16, 2024 Updated April 18, 2024, 10:56 a.m. ET

President Biden delivered a flurry of attacks on former President Donald J. Trump during a Tuesday speech in Pennsylvania about taxes and economic policy, painting his Republican rival as a puppet of plutocrats who had ignored the working class.

Visiting his hometown, Scranton, in a top battleground state that he has visited more often than any other, Mr. Biden laid out his vision for a fairer tax code, including raising rates on the wealthy and corporations and using the money to expand the economy and help working families.

But in a speech that signaled the Biden campaign’s intention to make the 2024 election a referendum on his polarizing Republican opponent, the president returned again and again to Mr. Trump. His jabs at his predecessor took aim at the former president’s wealthy upbringing, his friendships with billionaires and his 2017 tax cuts that disproportionately benefited America’s upper crust .

“Donald Trump looks at the world differently than you and me,” Mr. Biden told a crowd of more than a hundred supporters at a cultural center in Scranton. “He wakes up in the morning at Mar-a-Lago thinking about himself. How he can help his billionaire friends gain power and control, and force their extreme agenda on the rest of us.”

Aiming for a clear contrast, Mr. Biden laid out his proposals: Expanding the child tax credit. Providing a $10,000 tax credit for first-time home buyers. Raising the minimum tax rate for billionaires and corporations.

“We know the best way to build an economy is from the middle out and the bottom up, not the top down,” Mr. Biden said. “Because when you do that, the poor have a ladder up and the middle class does well and the wealthy still do very well. We all do well.”

Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the Trump campaign, disputed that Mr. Biden’s plan would benefit Americans.

“President Trump proudly passed the largest tax CUTS in history,” she said in a statement. “Joe Biden is proposing the largest tax HIKE ever.”

Throughout his speech, Mr. Biden wove in criticism of Mr. Trump — including a needling joke about the falling shares in the former president’s social media company.

“If Trump’s stock in Truth Social — his company — drops any lower, he might do better under my tax plan than his,” Mr. Biden said.

The president’s speech kicked off a three-day swing through Pennsylvania, with appearances scheduled in Pittsburgh on Wednesday and Philadelphia on Thursday. The trip came as Mr. Trump appeared in court in Manhattan for the second straight day as his first criminal trial begins — a striking split screen welcomed by the Biden campaign.

Donald J. Trump standing in court in Manhattan, wearing a dark suit and red tie and looking down.

Since Mr. Biden delivered his State of the Union address last month, his campaign has shifted into general election mode, after a far quieter start to the year. In recent weeks, he has visited every major battleground state. His campaign has opened more than 100 field offices around the nation in coordination with state Democratic parties, spent $30 million in an advertising blitz and built a significant fund-raising advantage over Mr. Trump. An Arizona court decision that upheld a near-total abortion ban dating to 1864 has also energized Democrats .

As those efforts have taken place, Mr. Biden’s depressed poll numbers have improved, with a survey this month by The New York Times and Siena College finding that he had nearly erased Mr. Trump’s lead nationwide. The president had trailed Mr. Trump by five percentage points in the previous survey. Much of Mr. Biden’s recovery came from his improved standing among traditional Democratic voters, a signal that his campaign’s messaging efforts may be having an effect.

Still, Mr. Biden faces an uphill battle in convincing Americans that he is a better steward of the nation’s economy than Mr. Trump. In the latest Times/Siena poll, 64 percent of voters said they approved of how Mr. Trump had handled the economy while in office. Only 34 percent said the same of Mr. Biden, the poll found.

The tax cuts that Mr. Trump signed into law in 2017 have proved unpopular with voters. And while they increased investment in the U.S. economy and delivered a modest pay bump for workers, they fell short of Republican promises and are adding greatly to the national debt, one academic study found. Many parts of those tax cuts are set to expire next year.

Mr. Biden pledged in his speech that under his plan, nobody earning less than $400,000 would see their taxes go up.

“I hope you’re able to make $400,000,” he told the crowd. “I never did.”

As Mr. Biden spoke, Mr. Trump was seated in a Manhattan courtroom roughly two hours away, watching the selection of the first jurors in his trial. Mr. Biden has generally refrained from mentioning the charges Mr. Trump faces in four criminal cases, but his campaign did troll the former president on social media for appearing to fall asleep during proceedings on Monday.

Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, did not answer when asked if Mr. Biden was watching the Trump trial or being briefed on it.

“His focus is on the American people,” she said during a briefing with reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Scranton.

But even in his hometown, Mr. Biden could not avoid the anger that many Democrats feel over his support for Israel during its war in Gaza. As Mr. Biden walked up the steps of his childhood home, a crowd of protesters down the block waved Palestinian flags and chanted “Genocide Joe has got to go” through a loudspeaker.

Mr. Biden is set to speak on Wednesday at the headquarters of the United Steelworkers union in Pittsburgh before visiting Philadelphia on Thursday. He narrowly defeated Mr. Trump in Pennsylvania in 2020, and winning the state is crucial to his re-election strategy.

Democratic allies of Mr. Biden said they thought his message on economic fairness would resonate in Pennsylvania.

“Scranton versus Fifth Avenue was one of the most successful frames from the 2020 campaign,” said Representative Brendan Boyle of Pennsylvania, referring to the location of Trump Tower in Manhattan. “You’re going to see more of it in this campaign.”

Our Coverage of the 2024 Election

Presidential Race

President Biden called for major increases to some tariffs on steel and aluminum products from China , speaking to members of a national steelworkers union in Pittsburgh as he vies with Donald Trump for votes in Northern industrial states.

A broad coalition of the Kennedy family will endorse Biden , pointedly rejecting Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the independent candidate who many Democrats believe poses a threat to Biden’s re-election chances.

Trump’s campaign said in a letter to Republican vendors that candidates may use his name, image and likeness in campaign materials only if they turn over at least 5% of donations that they receive .

A Generation Gap: Many older Black voters see moral and political reasons to vote, but younger Black voters feel far less motivated to cast a ballot for Democrats or even at all .

Vice-Presidential Calculations: As Trump sifts through potential running mates, he has peppered some advisers and associates with a direct question: Which Republican could best help him raise money ?

Embracing the Jan. 6 Rioters:  Trump initially disavowed the attack on the Capitol, but he is now making it a centerpiece of his campaign .

Mobilizing the Left: Amid the war in Gaza, the pro-Palestinian movement has grown into a powerful, if disjointed, political force in the United States. Democrats are feeling the pressure .

Biden visits his Pennsylvania hometown to call for more taxes on the rich and cast Trump as elitist

SCRANTON, Pa. — President Joe Biden made a nostalgic return to the house where he grew up in working-class Scranton on Tuesday, kicking off three days of campaigning across Pennsylvania by calling for higher taxes on the rich and casting Donald Trump as an out-of-touch elitist.

When the Democratic president wasn’t trying to blunt the populist appeal of his Republican predecessor’s comeback bid, he appeared to savor his trip down memory lane. He lingered longer than expected at his childhood home, where an American flag waved softly in the wind on the front porch and neighbors crowded the sidewalk under flowering trees and a pale blue sky. The president later posed for photos with children, some wearing school uniforms, in the backyard.

Biden is looking to gain ground in a key battleground state while Trump spends much of the week in a New York City courtroom for his first criminal trial . Biden heads to Pittsburgh on Wednesday and Philadelphia on Thursday, but he started his travels in Scranton, which has long played a starring role in his political autobiography.

On Tuesday, the city of 75,000 provided a backdrop for Biden’s efforts to reframe the conversation around the economy, which has left many Americans feeling sour about their financial situations at a time of stubborn inflation and elevated interest rates despite low unemployment.

The president said he wanted to make the tax code fairer, keeping more money in Americans’ pockets, while criticizing Trump, a billionaire himself, as a tool of wealthy interests.

“When I look at the economy, I don’t look at it through the eyes of Mar-a-Lago. I look at it through the eyes of Scranton,” Biden said, contrasting his hometown with the Florida estate where Trump lives.

Biden has proposed a 25% percent minimum tax rate for billionaires. He added that taxes are “how we invest in the country.”

“Scranton values or Mar-a-Lago values,” Biden said. “These are the competing visions for our economy that raise questions of fundamental fairness at the heart of this campaign.” He spoke at a community center from a stage flanked by a banner reading “Tax Fairness for All Americans.”

The president said decades of Republicans policies that cut taxes for the wealthy with the idea of stimulating the economy “failed America, and Donald Trump embodies that failure.” He scoffed that Trump’s background taught him little more than “the best way to get rich is to inherit it,” and he jabbed at the sharp fall in market value of the former president’s social media platform, Truth Social.

“If Trump’s stock in Truth Social, his company, drops any lower, he might do better under my tax plan than his,” Biden quipped.

Michael Whatley, chair of the Republican National Committee, blamed Biden for inflation in a statement about his trip.

“It’s no wonder why Pennsylvanians will vote to make America affordable again and elect President Trump in November,” he said.

Near the end of Biden’s speech, he sharply criticized Trump for reportedly calling veterans who died in combat “suckers and losers." He said the comments, which Trump has denied, were “disqualifying,” adding, “Thank God I wasn’t standing next to him.”

Later in the day, Biden spoke at a training session for grassroots organizers at a union hall, telling attendees: “We have to win. It gets down to old-fashioned politics. It gets down to knocking on doors.”

Throughout the multiple stops, there were paeans to Biden’s roots in this town, where crowds lined the streets to cheer his motorcade. Trump flags were rare, and there was only a smattering of protests against Biden’s support for Israel’s military operations in Gaza.

“Joe Biden has never forgotten where he’s from,” Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti said before Biden’s speech at the community center. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro echoed the idea, saying, “This is a guy who has never forgotten the people he grew up with.”

“They’re the people on his mind, and they’re the people in his heart,” Shapiro said.

When Biden took the stage at the community center, the crowd chanted “four more years” before he started speaking. Biden smiled and joked, “I think I should go home now.” Then he quickly added, “except I am already home.”

Biden grew up in Scranton’s Green Ridge neighborhood until his father struggled to find work and moved the family to Delaware when the future president was 10.

Although Delaware eventually became the launching pad for Biden’s political career, he often returned to Scranton, including visiting his childhood home on Election Day 2020.

During that campaign, Biden described the presidential campaign as “Scranton versus Park Avenue.” His reelection team is framing this year’s race in a similar way, releasing a video that calls for promoting the middle class and features interviews with his cousin, a grade school classmate and a county commissioner.

Christopher Borick, director of the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion, described Scranton as a “mythical place in political culture” that will provide a test for Biden’s political appeal.

“It’s an area that, on paper, aligns perfectly with the populist gains of the Republican Party during the Trump era,” Borick said.

However, Biden won the city and the surrounding county in 2020. If Biden is able to carry Scranton and similar places again this year, as well as limit Trump’s winning margins in rural areas, he may be able to secure another victory in Pennsylvania.

Sam DeMarco, chair of the Republican Party in Allegheny County, where Pittsburgh is located, said “across the board, it costs more to live today than it did when Joe Biden came to office.”

“These are the things that families feel,” he said. “And a scripted appearance by the president is not going to change that.”

As president, Trump signed into law in 2017 a series of tax breaks that disproportionately benefit the rich . Many of the cuts expire at the end of 2025, and Biden wants to keep a majority of them to fulfill his promise that no one earning less than $400,000 will pay more taxes.

However, he also wants to raise $4.9 trillion in revenue over 10 years with higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations. His platform includes a “billionaire’s tax,” which would set a minimum rate of 25% on the income of the richest Americans.

Biden’s Pennsylvania swing overlaps with the start of Trump’s first criminal trial, presenting an opportunity and a challenge for Democrats.

Trump is defending himself against criminal charges for a scheme to suppress allegations of affairs with a porn actor and a Playboy model. Biden’s team has quietly embraced the contrast of the former president sequestered in a courtroom while the current president has free rein to focus on economic issues that are top of mind for voters.

However, the juxtaposition becomes less helpful if Trump soaks up the country’s attention during the first-ever criminal trial of a former president.

Biden didn’t mention Trump’s legal problems. Instead, he told the community center crowd that he learned in Scranton that “money doesn’t determine your worth.”

Vice President Harris returning to Wisconsin for third visit this year

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris plans to return to Wisconsin next week for her third visit to the battleground state this year.

President Joe Biden’s campaign announced Thursday that Harris plans to campaign in La Crosse on Monday at an event focused on abortion rights . The White House said Harris will also hold a second event there focused on the economy and health care.

Harris was in Madison last month and in Waukesha in January for the first of her trips focused on abortion.

Wisconsin is one of a handful of presidential battleground states across the country. The latest Marquette University Law School poll, released Wednesday, showed the race between Biden and former President Donald Trump to be about even.

Trump campaigned in Wisconsin for the first time this year earlier this month, holding a rally in Green Bay. Biden was in Madison last week to announce his latest student loan forgiveness plan.

Trump won Wisconsin in 2016 but lost to Biden in 2020. Both races were decided by fewer than 23,000 votes.

Detroit Lions Reveal Uniform, Sheila Hamp Declares Bold 2024 Goal

The Lions officially have a new look for the 2024 season.

  • Author: John Maakaron

In this story:

The Detroit Lions have officially unveiled their new uniforms.

This upcoming season marks the first time the Lions have made changes to their uniforms since prior to the 2017 season. Team president Rod Wood recently confirmed that the team would sport a new look during the NFL’s annual league meetings.

Detroit's new look pays a big tribute to its look in the 1990's and is inspired by the re-release of the Ford Bronco in 2021.

The Lions will have three jerseys beginning in 2024. Their home and away colors have not changed, as they will sport a Honolulu blue top at home and a traditional white on the road. However, the team will have one new look in the form of a black alternate jersey.

Detroit also unveiled new blue facemasks on the helmet and made alterations to the alternate blue helmet released last year. The new blue helmet features the current Lions' logo with a black stripe down the middle and will go with the black jersey.

The 2024 campaign will mark the first time the team has sported a black alternate jersey since 2007. The black jersey features blue numerals, white letters with a silver outline along with blue stripes and silver trim on the sleeves. Detroit will also keep its 1950's throwbacks, albeit in the updated shade of blue.

At the event, team owner Sheila Hamp declared a big goal ahead of the Lions entering the 2024 season.

"As coach Campbell said at the end of last season, that was phase one," Hamp said. "The 2024 season is phase two. One of the goals for the 2024 season is, at the end of the season, we will be hoisting the trophy."

Dan Campbell also took to the podium at the event and praised the efforts of the fan base. Both Campbell and Hamp expressed appreciation for the Ford Field faithful breaking decibel records and chanting "Jared Goff" throughout the playoff run.

Detroit's fourth-year coach also praised the new look that the team will sport with the new uniforms in 2024.

"I think we nailed it," Campbell said. "I really do. So it's something to look forward to. What we've done since we came in, everything's about the next step. It started with Sheila. It's all about a new attitude, a new style and it's our style. And with that, the jerseys come out with it. I think you guys are gonna love them."

Fans got their first look in a leaked advertisement in a local blog Thursday, but the team officially showcased the new look during an event at Ford Field for season-ticket holders.

Detroit confirmed the leak with two separate social media videos. One featured defensive tackle Alim McNeill in the blue jersey, while the second had quarterback Jared Goff jokingly stating that he was taking a picture of the black jersey to post to X, formerly known as Twitter.

Wood called the leak "a buzzkill," ahead of the official reveal.
