Frequently Asked Questions

You’ll have the opportunity to taste a wide array of Singaporean dishes that reflect the city’s multicultural heritage. This includes everything from savoury hawker food and market specialties to Michelin-starred street food. The tours are designed to highlight the best of Singapore’s culinary offerings, ensuring a rich and diverse tasting experience.

Our walks are designed to be done at an easy pace. We have planned for air-conditioned stops and rest stops during the walks. On some walks, we use Singapore’s excellent public transportation system to move us between the eclectic neighbourhoods of Singapore. If you are reasonably fit, you will most likely be fine – but do let us know if you have a physical limitation that we should know so we can be sure you will enjoy the program.

Absolutely! We offer specific tours tailored to various dietary needs, including vegetarian and gluten-free options. These tours are curated to ensure you still experience the full depth of Singapore’s culinary scene, with stops at hidden gems and local favourites that cater to your dietary requirements. There is something for everyone. We just ask that you advise us of your restrictions, allergies, likes and dislikes before the tour so we can plan accordingly.

The duration of our food tours varies depending on the specific tour, the activities involved, and the number of places we explore. Some tours are as short as 2 hours ( Market + Street Food Tour ), while others can span half a day or even a full day ( Culinary Secrets of Singapore or Pulau Ubin Tour ). For more precise details, please refer to the descriptions of the individual tours listed above.

The Street Art + Street Food Tour has a maximum of 6 as it’s designed to be a private and intimate tour. The Pulau Ubin Tour has a minimum of 10 to start. As for the rest, they are flexible and can be tailored to your needs. We can accommodate your group to ensure a personalised and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Yes, we highly recommend booking in advance to secure your spot and allow us to customise the tour to your preferences. Early booking also helps us ensure that all dietary requirements and special requests are met, making your experience as enjoyable as possible.

Our tours are private and we love having curious kids on our walks! We just like you to keep in mind that the temperature (averaging 35°C/90°F) and humidity (more than 90%) in Singapore may not always be what children are used to. Children under 6 who won’t be eating can come along free of charge on our food tours! Just make a note when booking so we know they’ll be joining you. Just a quick note that carriers are preferred over strollers as the local markets will not have room for them.

Our walking tours go on rain or shine. Rainfall is almost an everyday phenomenon on this island. The good news is that showers in Singapore usually do not last too long, they are usually quite refreshing and give respite to the heat. If it is raining before the start of the tour, we will delay the start time by 30 mins. If it is not raining heavily and we feel the conditions are safe, we will continue the tour as planned and keep everyone in sheltered areas where possible. On instances of heavy thundery showers and the tour absolutely has to be cancelled, you will be offered the option of a refund or a reschedule.

Yes, one of our key offerings is the ability to fully customise your tour. The Culinary Secrets of Singapore Tour , for example, is entirely flexible, allowing you to focus on the foods and locations that interest you most, whether it’s exploring street food, markets, or hidden culinary gems.

Most of our tours are designed as walking tours to give you an immersive experience of Singapore’s neighbourhoods and food culture. Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to the designated start point and for departure after the tour ends. Fortunately, Singapore is highly accessible, with most locations easily reached by public transport or via Grab, making it convenient to join and depart from our tours.

Singapore lies on the tip of the equator and that said, enjoys a nice tropical climate throughout the year (average 30-34C/ 86-93F). Being practical folks that we are, you will notice that most Singaporeans are fairly casual, and you will most probably see people in shorts, tank tops and flip flops. Wear comfortable shoes and cotton clothing, and bring along a folding umbrella, a camera and water. There will be many places along the way to buy bottled water.

Being travellers ourselves, we understand plans change and you might not be able to join us.  Our cancellation policy is flexible, and we will refund you 100% if you inform us 7 days or more before the start of the tour. For 1-6 days, we will refund 50%. Refunds are exclusive of the service fee paid to the booking platform (FareHarbor). Unfortunately, we are not able to refund for shorter notices or for no shows. If you are late or lost, please call! We have a 5 minute wait time at our start point.

We have experience designing and leading tour routes that are accessible to wheelchairs, but this may not be applicable for all tour types. If you have people with special needs in your group, it may depend. Please reach out for us to find out more.

Children under 6 can come along free of charge. Just let us know when booking so we know the total number of people in the group.

Some love from our guests

Singapore food tour

SINGAPORE FOOD TOUR - Join our food host on this tiny island nation with a big appetite, discovering the stories behind the hawker food culture of Singapore.

Straddled at the crossroads of Chinese, Malay and Indian cuisine, we’ll venture to three distinctly different neighbourhoods - Chinatown, Little India and Arab Street.

We’ll visit Michelin-rated hawker stalls and family owned eateries that reflect the rich diversity of Singapore’s foodie scene. Tucking into 13+ varied tastings - tender chicken with fragrant rice, crunchy hand-made popiah, and oyster cakes that would make Anthony Bourdain proud. From the Maxwell Centre, we’ll take to the backstreets to marvel at the street art murals dotted through Chinatown.

We’ll hop on the subway to Little India, seeking biryanis and dosas packed with aromatic spices, whilst navigating the sights and sounds of the local Indian community - as colourful as the Instagram-worthy house of historic Tan Teng Niah .

From the history of Indian merchants to Arab traders, our third adventure arrives at the illuminated Sultan Mosque. Pistachio-coated treats satisfy the sweet tooth, as we end next to hipster Haji Lane; toasting modern Singapore and the buzzing nightlife of Kampong Glam.

Join our Singapore food tour to explore the best overview of three fascinating areas of the city, paying homage along the way to the country’s prime position in Asia’s culinary heritage.

Why this tour is awesome

Singapore has all the tasty ingredients to reflect the cultural mix of a food-loving nation (save the iced Singapore Sling cocktail until afterwards). Come to understand the real stories of Singapore’s food heroes, with their humble and beloved stalls of which make up the world-famous hawker centres.

Follow the trail of the hungry locals - trust that they know the best recipes, away from the hotel restaurant’s uninspiring bowl of noodles.

Prefer a private tour? How about our Singapore Bites food tour ?

Jimmy was born prior to Singapore independence to parents with ancestry linked to southern China. His favourite dish is linked to his Chinese roots - the humble fishball noodles sold by Teochew hawkers in food centres across the island.

HEAR WHAT OUR

Customers say, perfect introduction if you are new to singapore.

We had an amazing time on our walking tour with Mr. Bas who was very informative, friendly and helpful! We visited Michelin Bib Gourmand hawkers and food stalls that were really popular with locals, that showcased a great variety of flavors and traditional heritage foods of Singapore! By the end of the tour, we were stuffed! We also stop for traditional Singaporean coffee, Mr. Bas shared with us and explained how to order the various options in Singapore so we could handle it on our own with no problems. Highly recommended this small group food experience!

Food Picks: Non-alcoholic drink tour SingaPour, Carnaby’s British fare, sweet treats at Duke Dessert

food tours in singapore

Nine drinks, one beverage flight and one shot across three bars in three hours. Yet, I am very sober and very hydrated. And it is only 7pm.

That is made possible by the newly launched SingaPour, a guided non-alcoholic drink tour by local tour operator VegThisCity.

The experience ($129 a person) takes you to three bars for one full-sized zero-alcohol drink and bar snack at each location, where you get to meet the bartenders and others from the bar community.

To keep things fresh for each tour, the bars and drinks will change and surprises will be added, says VegThisCity’s director Eiktha Khemlani, who curated the selection of bars.

She takes me (and other media representatives) on a preview of this tour – hence the extra drinks for sampling – which sees us on a late-afternoon bar crawl to underground bar The Coup in Ann Siang Hill, mental wellness-themed bar Spectre in Tanjong Pagar and cocktail institution 28 HongKong Street in Hongkong Street.

At The Coup, we taste an “elixir omakase” flight of five drinks by local brand Boujee Botanicals, which specialises in functional beverages such as kombucha and herbal concoctions.

food tours in singapore

The line-up includes a shot of spicy jamu (Indonesian turmeric ginger drink), two grape-based kombucha and a chrysanthemum-infused “elixir”.

We also get to try the new formulation of Melati Drinks’ two non-alcoholic spirits – Classic and Fresh – as introduced by its founder Lorin Winata, a special guest on the tour. The Singapore-based brand is said to have come up with the first Asian non-alcoholic botanical spirit.

Next, at Spectre, founder Andrew Pang takes us through the bar’s healing philosophy as well as three off-menu drinks – a chamomile-based drink for better sleep, a blue-hued beverage with apple cider vinegar to aid digestion, and a highball-inspired peach blossom-infused green tea beverage.

Finally, at 28 HongKong Street, we sample three zero-proof cocktails – made with Australian non-alcohol spirit Lyre’s – and get to order one of our own based on our preferences.

My refreshing drink hits the spot with pineapple and passionfruit, and I like that I can get a non-alcoholic beverage crafted just for me.

With other like-minded folks on the tour, I never once felt excluded or judged for being my usual sober self at any of the bars. Cheers to that.

When: Tours run on Thursdays, 6.30 to 9.30pm Info: vegthiscity.com or e-mail [email protected] for private tours

food tours in singapore

On a rainy Wednesday afternoon, two-month-old modern British diner Carnaby – named after London’s Carnaby Street – is the buzziest spot in Robertson Quay.

I follow the pumping pop-rock tunes to the cosy 85-seat restaurant, decorated with the records of British bands such as Oasis, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

Carnaby is run by the local folk behind The Goodburger food truck, who have roped in chef Adam Penney, formerly of burger restaurant Three Buns by Potato Head Singapore, to helm the kitchen.

I trust British chef Penney, who worked his way through restaurants in London, to dish out not only a solid burger ($36), but also proper British comfort food.

This includes Steak and Guinness Pie ($35), where the tender beef chunks are simmered in Irish Guinness Stout with seasonal vegetables, topped with a crisp pastry lid; and Smoky Fish Pie ($34), with kippers, smoked haddock and golden snapper, and a broiled potato mash crust.

You cannot skip the quintessential Beer Battered Fish & Chips ($36), with golden snapper fried in a Brewdog Punk IPA-infused crisp batter, paired with mushy peas, tartare sauce and charred lemon.

My favourite desserts are the Allo Treacle Tart ($16), laced with salted caramel and a buttery tart shell topped with chantilly cream; and Sticky Toffee Date Pudding ($16), with an indulgent butterscotch sauce and housemade vanilla ice cream.

Where: Carnaby, 01-01, 60 Robertson Quay MRT: Fort Canning Open: Noon to 2.30pm (Wednesdays to Fridays), 5 to 10pm (Tuesdays to Fridays), 11am to 10.30pm (weekends) Tel: 8890-7843 Info: carnaby.sg

Duke Dessert

food tours in singapore

Duke Dessert, which opened at Fortune Centre in November 2023, has a bold offer – it offers refunds if its sweet offerings are unsatisfactory. Thus far, no one has made a claim for a refund, and it is clear why.

Plenty of its ingredients are made from scratch – from the creamy walnut, black sesame and almond pastes (from $4.20 each) to the smooth beancurd (tau huay) and grass jelly.

No flour or thickeners are used to enhance the pastes, and no syrups are added to boost flavour.

The desserts are made with traditional family recipes from one of the Penang founders, who married a Taiwanese. The other three are Singaporeans.

For its chendol ($3.60), the magic lies in the coconut cream-infused “snow ice”, which is very finely shaved ice. Coupled with the red bean and green chendol jelly, it makes every spoonful more pleasurable than a regular one. For the durian lovers, there is a durian version ($6.80).

Like the chendol, the mango pomelo sago ($6.90) also gets jazzed up with mango juice-infused snow ice, pure mango puree and aloe vera bits.

The other standout item is the fully loaded beancurd grass jelly red bean with vanilla ice cream and tapioca balls ($7.50).

Each spoonful unearths a new surprise – like the pink-hued sakura konnyaku for extra chewy texture and transparent tapioca pearls with a crisp water chestnut centre.

If you are on the go, there are also almond milk-based drinks with fungus and lotus seeds, purple rice, lotus seeds and multigrains ($5.90 each).

After spending months perfecting its menu, Duke Dessert is set for expansion.

Its second outlet will be a kiosk at the Takashimaya Department Store’s Food Village, slated to open in end October.

Where: Duke Dessert, 02-06 Fortune Centre, 190 Middle Road MRT: Bugis/Bencoolen Open: Noon to 4pm, 5 to 11pm (last order at 10pm), Tuesdays to Sundays, closed on Mondays Info: instagram.com/dukedessert

10. Food Fair + Artsy Weekend (21 – 22 Sep)

When we think of art pieces, most Singaporeans think “ cheem ”, and the remaining probably think “expensive” Bottom line: a lot of us think of art as atas (possibly too atas to understand) and unaffordable.

This month, the Artsy Weekend is here to change that mindset. The event will feature some of Singapore’s best-loved artists and their art works, which you can admire and even discuss with the artists themselves. If you’re intimidated by art, take this opportunity to talk to the artists about their art styles, what inspires them, and what those cheem art pieces really mean. Who knows? You may even fall in love with a piece. If you do, you can purchase art pieces during the event at what they promise to be affordable prices.

The event will also feature a farmers’ market and is pet-friendly, so you and your fur kid can pick up some fresh produce and pet supplies too.

2. Make friends with Friendzone (10, 18, 25, 27 Sep)

One of my closest friends used to use the dating app Tinder—not to date, but to make friends. She would chat with people on the app—filtering out any creeps, of course—and actually made some meaningful friendships from her efforts.

These days, there’s an easier, non-virtual way to make friends. Friendzone hosts community-building gatherings for young adults to connect with each other and develop friendships. They believe that Singapore is, and I quote, “full of diversity and interesting people that just haven’t met yet”. If you don’t agree, maybe you should give one of their sessions a try.

This month, there are 4 Friendzone sessions planned:

Remember to respect that these are friend-making events, not dating ones.

Zalora is extending its Snap and Drop Programme , a programme that lets you donate your unwanted clothing to reduce the amount of apparel that ends up in landfills. On top of that, you’ll receive a $10 cashback voucher from Zalora for each clothing drop you make. How does it work? It’s pretty simple:

Pack your clothes, shoes, bags and more—basically any fabric item.

Snap a photo of your bag of unwanted fabric items in front of the collection box at any of these drop-off locations .

Drop your items into the collection box. You’ll also want to note down the collection box number (SG0XXX) on the front of the box.

Fill in this form to get your cashback! You can only redeem this once a month, and the cashback expires in 1 month.

For this initiative, Zalora is partnering with Life Line Clothing, a Malaysia-based zero waste textile collector. They’ll sort the donated items and resell the apparel in good condition while refurbishing, upcycling, recycling, or even reprocessing the poorer condition items into fuels.

With Let’s Meditate Singapore, start every Sunday morning off on the right foot with a free guided ‘Sahaja Yoga’ online meditation class. Sahaja Yoga is a gentle, beginner-friendly technique that’s always free. In these weekly sessions, let experienced volunteers guide you through a 9-step “self-realisation” guided meditation to get you started followed by a 3-step “balancing” guided meditation to stay in the present and distance yourself from unnecessary or unproductive worries and concerns about the past and future.

Sessions are conducted online every Sunday at 9.45 a.m. using the same Zoom link. Sign up at the link below!

Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just getting started, the Puma Run Club is a great community to help you meet your running goals.

After you’re done, the pacers will also lead you in a cool down to end off the session. So really all you need to do is to show up for yourself and give it your best shot!

NBRC meets every Tuesday evening at Suntec City’s New Balance outlet to work out together. They run (of course), do some HIIT (a classic!), and even do Fartlek —that’s Swedish for “speed play”. As the name suggests, it involves switching between fast and slow running to boost metabolism.

  • Venue : New Balance (Suntec City #01-325), 3 Temasek Blvd, Singapore 038983
