I was also just about to email you to thank you and the team for arranging yet again, another wonderful experience. Mount Kenya was spectacular and wild - I think I prefer it to Kili in many ways. The entire support team was professional, friendly and all round fantastic in making sure that we were safe, well fed and well looked after. In particular, we would commend Peter the guide as well as Paul one of the porters who doubled-up as his deputy on summit day. Our route was often shrouded in mist and rain that rapidly gathered in the valleys and moorlands, and we were very impressed at how Peter managed to navigate us safely through all of that notwithstanding. In addition, we loved learning about the history of Mount Kenya from him in the evenings. And ofcourse, I was blown away by the lovely birthday surprise at the end complete with balloons and a delicious cake that had journeyed with us from day 1. One thing we might recommend because of the sudden change in weather (it would sometimes get extremely cold and wet) is for the equipment list to be a little bit more detailed in terms of its recommendations e.g. layers to be moisture-wicking, walking boots be waterproof, doubling up on socks to avoid blisters etc. El Karama is a beautiful conservancy and the lodge a true labour of love. Great hospitality in a relaxed environment. Delicious, fresh food. We enjoyed the drives, even if we didn't see much wildlife as the heavens opened on us for the last two outings. However, since it was very much geared towards families, I am not sure if I would stay again without kids. That said, I think it was perfect for a 3d/2n stay post mountain, and a much better choice than flying to the masai mara given the limited time we had. Our transits were smooth. Samuel the driver was always on time, drove safely and kept the vehicle clean. So it was a brilliant experience and one which I certainly will cherish for some time to come. It was great to work with you for a third time, and I certainly hope it won't be the last
Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”
We had the most amazing time. It exceeded all my hopes of what the trip would be. The guides, the hotels - everything was of such a wonderful quality. Thank you for organizing everything. I will absolutely recommend Tourdust and use you again.
We had a brilliant trip! An amazing experience for parents, children and grandparents alike. We are already planning a trip to Vietnam next year
Dear Lisa. On behalf of the three generations of the Rowland family. Thank you, so much, for organising our wonderful holiday to Botswana and the Victoria Falls. The trip of a lifetime. The week mobile camping in the bush, with our guide Nandos and his crew was a fantastic adventure. How they manage to cook such wonderful food on an open fire is amazing. The sites were constantly visited by monkeys and once by elephants. We were even lucky enough to see two packs of wild dogs, once with a kill. Waterberry Lodge on the Zambezi River is a wonderfully tranquil place. Ideal to relax after the adventures of our safari and visiting Victoria Falls. Very many thanks once again
We had a great time - even with the flight between Governors and the coast being two flights and a car! We also experienced a power cut At Nairobi airport on the way home so 2+ hours late taking off. Governors. Wonderful people and dealt with the flight delay very well - taking us back and letting us know that we could stay there if the flight was delayed overnight. The game drives were excellent and our guide (Erick) obviously very experienced and managed to find all the key animals - no rhino in that part of the Masai Mara but everything else in abundance - never seen so many herbivores (many many elephants as well as all the others) as well as two prides of lions. Could not have asked for more. The ‘tent’ was excellent and comfortable and well serviced. The only ‘complaint’ would be that the food - especially dinner - could be improved (I think we got a bit bored of soup as a starter for every meal bar one) and the main courses were not at the same level as Kinondo Kwetu and while all were explained there was no choice offered. The breakfasts were just what was needed after an early game drive. Kinondo Kwetu. What a great location and the welcome when we arrived at just gone 11.00pm was better than you could have ever thought possible - they we’re disappointed that we did not at that time want the full dinner experience! The rooms we’re comfortable. The food was excellent but again no choice was offered - other than for allergy reasons (which we do not have). May be some choice would be nice. Having said that the food we did have was excellent as were the wines (albeit a short list!) and other drinks. There were (as you know) lots of facilities/sports options - but we spent our time relaxing which was exactly what we needed and there were lots of places to do that. Overall. We would go back to both places - perhaps a few more nights at Kinondo Kwetu next time but 3 nights at Governors was perfect for us. Thank you for organising and recommending both places. That you and your colleague for trying to find out about the plane (flat tyre) but communication by the flight company left a lot to be desired (Governors were furious that they were not told and had taken us to the airstrip). Phil
It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve
Hi Lisa, Holiday has been a huge success and we have thoroughly enjoyed it all, such a wonderful experience. Many thanks for all your help. Best wishes, Leona
Hi Lisa, Thanks for your email! It was amazing thank you! We had the best time, everything ran smoothly (aside from a break-down due to faulty clutch on day 1 of the tour, but our guide / driver sorted that and we were back on track by that evening). Saw all the things we wanted to see, even a mum and cub cheetah. Our boys have had such a different holiday and a fab taste of the world! Thank you so much for organising this for us. We’d definitely recommend our guide/driver (Tuhafeni) and assistant (Frans) again. Nicola
We had a fantastic time. Thank you for all your help, advice and guidance in organising our holiday. As this was not our first booking with Tourdust we were confident that all our transfers would work perfectly and they did - everything ran so smoothly! The riad in Marrakesh was stunning - a truly beautiful oasis of calm in such a busy, bustling city. As you can imagine, we were very grateful for the air conditioning in our room as outside was so hot! I was nervous about walking through the souks at night, but as they were well lit we felt perfectly safe and found our confidence grew in navigating the journey home each time we ventured out. When we arrived at our lodge in the Atlas Mountains we were blown away by the scenery. The views were amazing and the beautiful lodge gardens were the perfect place to sit and relax before taking a dip in the pool. Our day trek was truly amazing - no small thanks to our guide Rashid, who was so helpful and knowledgable. The lunch in the traditional Berber village was delicious and we were were made to feel so welcome. The home owner showed us how to make bread and then cooked it for us in her traditional clay oven. This was a memory we will never forget as we stood surrounded by her chickens and goats watching her use her bare hands to prepare the fire! Our night in the desert was breathtaking. The camel ride at sunset was so incredible and the quad biking the next morning was brilliant fun. I am so glad we added in these extras as they really made the experience! We finally made it to our hotel at the coast, where the surf lessons were a hit and the hotel was a great place to relax and read! Thank you again for all your help. We would definitely recommend Tourdust to all our friends and family. Tanya
Hi Lisa, Just wanted to say thank you so much for organising our trip to Thailand. We had such a good time and all the arrangements were perfect. Our tour guide in Bangkok, Nathan, was fantastic. Super-knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Definitely 5 stars. We enjoyed Elephant Hills - think three days was a perfect amount of time there. The activities were wonderful and varied (elephant feeding such a highlight but also loved the canoeing and river trips), the food here was excellent too and guides great. It was so lovely after all the hustle and bustle to relax at the Bo Phut resort in Ko Samui. The Fisherman’s market was full of interesting things to buy and we enjoyed a good boat trip out to Pig Island. Thank you for all your advice along the way. All the best, The Murray family.
We are back home safe after a wonderful trip. Having booked with you before, it was not a surprise that everything worked brilliantly, but this trip was really special. Our trekking in the mountains was incredible - we were well looked after and supported at all times. Mohammed met us when we arrived and our guide for the 3 days was great and provided support when the trekking was tough. We were really impressed with the cooking which was tasty and healthy. All the logistics worked well. Our time at les deux tours was lovely. To finish there after the mountains was amazing. We were really impressed by the attentive service and the place and pool suites you booked were beautiful and amazing. We would love to go back. Thank you for organising such a great trip for us. And yes thank you, we are all good if a little tired! Best wishes Lucy and Mark
Hi Lisa, We loved Costa Rica. The transfers worked amazingly well, Franx from Costa Rica Trails regularly checked that we were happy with everything and made sure we knew the transfer plans, the hotels were all very different. I wish we'd had an extra night in the Grano de Oro to give us a day in San Jose, it was a stunning hotel and felt wasted for the under 12 hours we were there. I very much got the feeling that the Evergreen Lodge was geared towards just a 2 night stay, which resulted in an awkward/funny moment in the 3rd evening when they presented us with specially prepared fish meals for the 4 of us "as we'd already had the 2 nights of the fixed menu and it was cycling round again" The Arenal Observatory Lodge was the star of the show, we absolutely loved it and would have gladly spent longer there time/budget allowing. The staff were brilliant throughout, the setting was breathtaking, the wildlife and walks were amazing and lots to do in the local area. The Gilded Iguana was the nicest hotel by a mile for facilities/appearance (fantastic service too) but Nosara was a little bit of a shock for us two oldies. Took us half a day to click into the feel of the place. Very Americanised, a little more lively than I was expecting. But grew to love it. We wouldn't rush back but the kids would, it was their highlight of the trip. As I said at the start, an amazing trip with lots of variety and superbly well organised. Thanks Stuart
Dear Lisa, We are now back home and had a fantastic time. All the arrangements went seamlessly, transport and hotels were great. Laikipia was amazing, a very personal experience and they did all they could to accommodate everything we wanted to do. The river location was fantastic and ideal for the children as they got to swim in it. It is somewhere we would all like to return to. There might not have been the numbers that you get on the Masai Mara however we got to see lions with cubs, two black leopards, a golden leopard and the wild dogs as well as a huge number of other animals and birds. Thank you for suggesting to stay for 4 nights, it was just the right amount of time. The tamarin Hotel was a good choice as we were able to eat at the Carnivore restaurant which was an experience. Mauritius was lovely and relaxing, just what we needed after a very active time in Laikipia. Accommodation and service was great. Weather was good for most of the time, a few showers over the last couple of days. Thank you once again for organising it all. Sally
Hi Lisa, We are waiting to board our flight to London but just wanted to say that we have had the most incredible holiday. Costa Rica is such a special place and we have loved the wildlife, outdoor adventures and especially the people. We were a little apprehensive before we arrived especially about travelling through the country but Tourdust made everything so easy and all the transfers were seamless. Thank you so much for all your help planning our trip of a lifetime and bearing with us as we deferred it time and again through the Covid years. Just need to save some pennies and then we’ll be in touch about our next trip! Kind regards, Orla
Hi Lisa, We had a wonderful time, thank you. Sidi Kaouki is the perfect retreat from the chaos of life. We all said it was our favourite trip to Morocco, even though it's our third visit. We are already thinking of returning at Xmas. Next time we will fly to Essaouira though, because the hike to Marrakech is too long to be comfortable when we could fly to a place 20 mins away. Thanks for all your help! Alex
Hi Lisa, Very successful thanks. Both hotels very nice. I think we went at a good time of year. Weather was good but not too hot and not too many tourists. Bophut hotel had a great location. Right on the end of fisherman's village with a great beach and easy pleasant walk to shops and restaurants. Guide in Bangkok was great. Booked a couple of trips in Kho Samui. Elephants were the highlight plus a very pleasant islands tour by speedboat. All parts of the journey ran smoothly. Happy to provide more specific information if it helps. Many thanks. Steve.
Yes everything went incredibly smoothly , excellent guide and set up u have . I might need a new pair of calves though !!! Thanks for sorting ALL the changes out. Regards Charlie
Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
Dear Lisa Well, we are back and still buzzing. We have had a marvellous time. The weather helped. We left Manchester in the snow and arrived in Marrakesh at 30 degrees. We were well looked after in the Riad. I'm glad we booked a meal for the first evening - ate it on the roof terrace. We can recommend that. It was delicious. We ate at the Foundouk, as per your recommendation and on the following night we ate at Le Jardin - got lost on the way to it!. We can really recommend Le Jardin. The following day we went to Majorelle gardens. Fortunately we had looked it up before we travelled because you have to book in advance online only from Jan 2023. We found our own way to the Medera Ben Yousef and Latifa took us to Bahia Palace - both were stunning. The following morning our lovely taxi driver Mohammond collected us to go to the EcoLodge. Yet another Mohammond made us very welcome. Again we ate well! You were right, the pool was freezing, but I can't sit next to water and not get in. Once you're in you forget how cold it is! I wasn't the only person to try the pool. Rashid, our guide for our walk collected us. He was brilliant. It was hard work, but worth it. I was determined I would make it. Kevin is fitter than me! The Berber family were lovely. We stopped when we were nearly there to see how rag rugs were made. When we got back Rashid and Mohammond confessed that Mohammond had said to Rashid that he should get us to a road if we got too tired and they would send a taxi (or a mule!) to collect us - or me, but Rashid was sure that I'd be OK. He was right. I think they wondered about these 2 70+ year olds. We can't praise Rashid enough. He had walked over from Imlil in the morning and was going to walk back after he left us. Thank you so much for putting our holiday together. We never thought it would be 3 years before we went. We are so glad we persevered. We did wonder what we had let ourselves in for as 2 oldies! Fiona and Kevin

USA Family Holidays FAQs

What is different about your holidays in the usa.

We have developed our USA collection to get the optimum balance between independent and guided activities. There are some places where you don’t need a guide and you will have more fun exploring independently. However, there are also activities and places where having a guide will deeply enhance your experience. We strike a careful balance between these two and, having tried and tested the trips ourselves, believe we have developed itineraries that are unique and exciting.

In a nutshell: Handpicked activities and accommodation and a balance of independent vs guided

How do we get there?

You can get direct flights from the UK to the USA. Some of the most competitive fares are from London to Las Vegas, but you can also fly to Denver, Phoenix and Los Angeles direct. Flight times to Las Vegas are approximately 10 ½ hours. For this reason, coupled with the time difference, we strongly suggest you try to get direct flights as having to go via another gateway airport adds time and pain to the journey, especially on your outbound flights. In the summer months of July & August, expect to pay from £850 for return flights to Las Vegas. Cheaper deals are available for Easter and October half terms. Experience shows that it pays to book ahead with trans-Atlantic flights, as prices are prone to increase closer to the departure date.

We are ATOL bonded and can happily help with your flight booking.

Do we need visas?

British passport holders are eligible to enter the USA under the Visa Waiver Programme.  You need to provide your flight information and passport details and pay an administrative fee. Applying is pretty straight forward and can be done via this official website https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

Once you arrive in the US, you will need to queue for immigration. You will need to do this even if you are in transit. You will need to provide finger prints and eye scans (although children won’t need these.) It is well worth having extra treats to hand out to tired children as the queues are long.

How much will it cost?

Our USA family holidays start from £850 per person, based on a family of four travelling together. This price covers a hire car, all accommodation and activities as per the itineraries. On  top of that, you will need to budget for flights, which are from £850 in the summer holidays, closer to £600 for Easter and October half term. Once there, you will need to budget for tips, entrance fees, petrol and food - expect to spend from $150 per day, although this price will depend wildly on where you eat and viist.

How long do I need?

To a certain extent, the answer to that question is how long is a piece of string? It really depends on how long you have and your budget. The costs of flying out to the USA are not insignificant, so we suggest that you plan your time carefully.

Most people need at least a couple of days to adjust to the time difference, so you will need to allow yourselves a couple of rest days at the beginning of your holiday. This time, more than any, you will appreciate splashing out on some nice accommodation with a pool, especially if you are arriving in the middle of the summer; hot and tired children is not a great combination.

We have two and three week itineraries for you to choose from. If you have three weeks, then you can go at a slightly gentler pace and see most of the highlights of the area. Two weeks will not be enough time to see everything, so we have put together a range of itineraries for you to choose from.

What is it like travelling in the USA with children?

The USA is a very family friendly destination to visit with children. The entire tourism industry is set up to deal with families; from the hotels to restaurants and national parks.  The pitfalls are the long car journeys and the fact that children don’t always find admiring views and Mother Nature as fascinating as adults. This is why we have designed our itineraries to have a mixture of active and adventurous pursuits, as well as self-guided aspects, to ensure that a balance is struck on your holiday.

When is the best time to go?

The South Western States enjoy a four season climate, although experience more extremes than in the UK. Winters can be cold with plenty of snow. Summer temperatures can be high (reaching the high 30’s in places) and the humidity means that there can be thunderstorms, especially in July & August.

Spring and autumn have milder temperatures, making it an ideal time for keen hikers to visit. We suggest that if you want to spend any time hiking in the Grand Canyon, then you are better saving your visit for these seasons.

The National Parks tend to be busier around the public holidays and school holidays (June / July)

What is the accommodation like?

Accommodation for families is usually in larger hotels which we have chosen for the facilities and location. Our experience tells us that travelling with children in the heat of the desert makes a swimming pool a necessity, especially after a long drive. Room options are usually a choice between inter-connecting rooms or sharing two large beds (which is what most domestic travellers choose to do) Many, but not all, hotel rooms have tea & coffee making facilities, wifi and a tv as a standard. Some may also have a fridge and microwave. Breakfast is not offered as a standard, although is included in some places.

Fall Out Boy

Fall Out Boy announced the dates for their So Much For ( Tour ) Dust North American tour on Tuesday morning (Jan. 31). The 29-city tour in support of their upcoming So Much (For) Stardust album (March 24) is slated to kick off in the band’s home town on June 21 with a gig at the iconic home of the Chicago Cubs: Wrigley Field.

Fall Out Boy Bust Out Live Debut of New Singles at Surprise Hometown Club Show

Trending on billboard.

FOB kicked off the Stardust era in style last week with a surprise homecoming show at Chicago’s 1,100-capacity Metro, just over 20 years after their very first gig at the legendary club, which is just around the corner from Wrigley Field. The Metro show featured the live debut of two Stardust singles, “Love From the Other Side” and “Heartbreak Feels So Good,” as well as the live debut of the band’s current configuration, which, for the first time since their founding, will not feature guitarist Joe Trohman, who recently announce that he was taking an  indefinite mental health hiatus .

In his stead, singer Patrick Stump is pulling double-duty on lead vocals and electric guitar alongside bassist Pete Wentz and drummer Andy Hurley. As was the case during a pair of previous promotional appearances, the group got some  assistance  from longtime guitar tech Ben Young, who played lead guitar from the side of the stage; at press time a spokesperson for the group had not responded to a request about whether Trohman will be back in the fold for the tour.

Ticket pre-sales for So Much For (2our) Dust begin Wednesday, September 13 at 9:30am local time. General tickets will be available beginning Friday, September 15 at 10am local time. For all dates and details, please visit www.falloutboy.com/tour .

The news follows the August 6 conclusion of So Much For (Tour) Dust ’s initial North American run, which kicked off June 21 with a sold out, epic hometown show at Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL and was dubbed “the loudest concert Wrigley’s ever had” by the Chicago Sun-Times.

Each show also included the use of a Magic 8 Ball to surprise fans with a performance of a Fall Out Boy song that had never played live before, which became one of the most buzzed about topics of the summer, igniting fans across social media – and spawning a trend on TikTok , with hundreds of thousands of views – to determine what songs might be coming next.

So Much For (Tour) Dust has proven to be another career display of Fall Out Boy ’s undeniable and renowned live performance prowess, featuring multiple sold-out dates; four stadiums shows (Fenway Park in Boston, Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, two nights at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles); special guests (Mikey Way in San Diego, Travie McCoy in Queens); unforgettable  production, visual effects and pyrotechnics; and widespread praise from fans and critics alike:

“In a dazzling concert packed with Fall Out Boy songs new and old, the band proved why they still have the hearts of pop-punk lovers of all ages.” – Tampa Bay Times

“At Fenway, Fall Out Boy bring the fireworks” – Boston Globe

“When they took the stage, Fall Out Boy immediately showed they’re in the upper echelon of modern rock performers alongside the likes of Weezer, Green Day and Foo Fighters.” – Exclaim!

“Fall Out Boy gave us more than we bargained for with a genre-defying, sensational show… The highlight of the evening came when the stage was stripped down, the backdrop dimmed and the lighting rigs lowered, creating the illusion of an intimate club reminiscent of the ones where Fall Out Boy played during their formative years. Fall Out Boy’s flawless performance of their timeless anthem, “Grand Theft Autumn,” reminded us of the lasting impact of their music.” – Dallas Observer

“Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Andy Hurley, and Joe Trohman let it all hang out on stage after going through their extensive catalog of tunes that helped shape a generation of millennials who grew up choosing to proudly showcase the pop rock genre on their thoughtfully curated Myspace profile pages. The sold out crowd flooded merchandise lines that stretched around the sunny field before the beginning of the event to show fierce loyalty and dedication to a group that continues to not only stand the test of time, but swiftly adapt in the ever changing scene known as the music industry.” – The Queens Gazette

“In addition to delivering a great set of music, Fall Out Boy lit up the night with a pyrotechnics display worthy of a July 4 celebration.” – Cleveland Plain-Dealer

“Fall Out Boy burn bright at Michigan’s Pine Knob Music Theatre… the pop-punk titans still have plenty of sway in the area…With the combination of classics and recent hits, sparks flew at the concert (literally and figuratively).” – Glide Magazine

“We’re all united in this moment. We’re here for the same reason: to forget the woes of the real world and to be transported through the decades of the storylines that Fall Out Boy has so graciously given us over the past 20 years.” – Cincinnati CityBeat

The UK and European leg of So Much For (Tour) Dust kicks off October 17 in Warsaw, Poland and concludes November 8 in Berlin, Germany, with multiple dates (Munich, Paris, Amsterdam, Leeds, Manchester, Cardiff) already sold out. The band will continue performing for fans around the world this year with a recently announced December 6 date in Bangkok as well as multiple cities (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane) across Australia as part of the Good Things Festival from December 1-3. In August, the band performed at Summer Sonic in both Tokyo and Osaka .

So Much For (2our) Dust is in support of Fall Out Boy’s most recent, critically acclaimed 8 th studio album So Much (For) Stardust , which debuted as the No. 1 rock album upon its March 24 release on Fueled By Ramen/Elektra/DCD2 Records and features the global smash single “Love From The Other Side.”

The album has also garnered Fall Out Boy two current nominations for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards – Best Alternative (“Hold Me Like A Grudge”) and Best Visual Effects (“Love From The Other Side”).

Additionally, the band currently stars in NBC Sports’ B1G Saturday Night show open this season. The show open – with a chorus of “ Here Comes Saturday Night ” – debuted on September 2 ahead of the season-opening West Virginia-Penn State game. Fall Out Boy also headlines the NBC Sports and Peacock Big Ten Football promotional campaign , appearing across NBCUniversal platforms throughout the summer and fall.

Samuel Adams brewery tour gets national nod. Did Adams himself even brew beer?

tour dust holidays

Sam Adams beer has gained a loyal audience over the last 40 years, and now the Boston-based brewery has made in onto the Top 10 list of best brewery tours in the country.

USA Today's Readers' Choice Awards for 2024 includes a number of beer-related categories, including best beer bars, gardens and festivals and best new breweries and labels, with Weymouth's Vitamin Sea Brewing making the latter list.

The Samuel Adams Boston Brewery came in 10th on the list of the best tours, with Tröegs Independent Brewing in Hershey, Pennsylvania, taking top honors.

Samuel Adams Brewery has tours 7 days a week

The company offers several variations of its brewery tours, with options lasting from 30 minutes for the VIP tour to an hour for private tours. Tour prices range from $10 to $45, excluding group rates, which vary according to group size.

The "Sam Signature Tour" is the least expensive of the tours at $10. The 45-minute tour offers a chance for guests to learn about the brewing process and the company's research and development programs. The tour of the brewhouse includes a tasting. Supervised people younger than 21 are allowed on this tour and don't need tickets.

Other tours include "Beyond the Brewhouse," "Keller Crafted: Artisan Beer and Cheese Experience," "VIP Pass Experience" and the private tours.

The tours fill up quickly, according to the company, and can be booked online .

Why did the founder name his company's signature brew after Adams?

According to the Samuel Adams website, CEO Jim Koch, who founded the Boston Beer Co. in 1984, named his beer after the Founding Father "because he shared a similar spirit in leading the fight for independence and the opportunity for all Americans to pursue happiness and follow their dreams."

Koch's family had been in the brewing business for 150 years. Jim Koch broke with that tradition when he left for college.

After college and graduate school, Koch began a career in management consulting, according to the company's website . Koch opened the craft beer company in 1984.

Where did the original Samuel Adams recipe come from?

The first batch of Sam Adams Lager, brewed in Jim Koch's kitchen, used the recipe his great-great-grandfather Louis Koch created.

Did the real Sam Adams brew beer?

Adams was more a maltster than a brewer, according to History.com and other sources . Maltsters prepare and process barley for use in beer-making.

Adams joined his father's malting business around the mid-1700s after a series of bad financial decisions and failed business ventures.

"Within years of inheriting his father’s malt house, the business was bankrupt and the building itself began to crumble," History.com said.

Adams was much more likely a beer consumer than a brewer, since his pre-revolutionary group, the Sons of Liberty, often met in taverns, according to Wikipedia .

Where is the Samuel Adams Boston Brewery?

The brewery is at 30 Germania St. in Jamaica Plain. The parking lot is small and street parking is limited. The Orange Line's Stony Brook Station is about a 5-minute walk away.

How did USA Today come up with its rankings?

To determine which breweries offer the best tour experiences, USA Today asked a panel of beer experts to nominate their top brewery tours across the country. From there, readers voted for their favorites.
