How to Putt in EA Sports PGA Tour – All Tips and Tricks

Image of Đorđe Ivanović

Playing EA Sports PGA Tour for the first time will definitely put you before many challenges. Even if you are a veteran of this digital golfing experience some moves can be pretty hard to master and can only be perfected with practice.

Putting is one of those skills that troubled many players of the EA Sports PGA Tour. Like for every other shot, there are many in-game parameters to help you make the perfect putt, but even after a couple of tries, you feel like you’re still at square one. Read on to learn some practical tips and tricks that can up your putt game and make you a Major Champion.

Putting in EA Explained

The first advice we can give you for better putting in EA Sports PGA Tour is to practice, practice, practice. I know from my own personal experience that I just got a feeling for most of the games I’ve played and I didn’t really strategize much or think about which buttons I was pressing. It’s the same when you are playing any sport really, the more you kick/throw the ball the better you get and your muscle memory takes over. The same is true for the careful putt shots in EA Sports PGA Tour.

When it comes to practical advice in the game, the most important thing is that you pay attention to the putt read line as that will be your guide to a perfect putt. It will show you the break and the curvature your golf ball will take when you strike it.

Next, you need to pay attention to setting an ideal weight for your putt. You will want to pay attention to whether you need to hit the golf ball uphill or downhill. Hitting it with either one of those circumstances will require that you adjust your aim distance accordingly.

For example, if you have a 15-foot putt that is 5 inches downhill, you would have to move your aim to 10 feet to get the perfect shot. On the other hand, if it was a 15-foot putt with 5 inches uphill, you would need to set your aim to 20 feet. Hitting the golf ball too strong or too weak is one of the most common mistakes players make when putting.

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour Tips and Strategies

Master your golf swing and become a pro on the putting range with these helpful pointers.

ea sports rory mcilroy pga tour putting tips

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is available now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and it marks a return to golfing greatness for EA Sports. With over a dozen courses available, a handful of pros from the Pro Golfers Association, and a number of other modes to play online and off, it’s got something to offer for both golf lovers and casual players alike.

Here are some tips that will help you get into the game, so you can master your swing and nail birdie after birdie…and perhaps even a few eagles as well.

Getting the Most Out of Your Swing

We’ll be covering the mechanics of the three swing systems available in the game in a later article, but, for now, we’ll talk about the basics when it comes to keeping your ball from rolling out of bounds.

First off, you’ll want to use the preview button – either Triangle or Y button, depending on your version – before every swing. Even if you think you’ve got your shot figured out, you’ll want to look further down the course for bunkers or water hazards. When you play on an easier setting, you’ll actually see a blue line that shows where the ball is going to go. Use this as a guidance tool before you smack one off the tee.

Also, keep a close eye on wind. If gusts are coming up over five miles an hour, you’re likely to see an effect on the ball’s path as it’s in the air. This, along with the distance your shot will take, enables you to adjust your aim in preview mode before hitting the ball. Use it every chance you get, even if the course looks deceptively open. You never know when it isn’t going to roll your way.

In addition, don’t forget the other tools available to you. When you go in for your back swing, you can hit the X or A button (depending on version) multiple times to add more power to your shot. This is especially useful on par 5’s, when you’re trying to get as much distance covered as possible getting to the green. You’ll still want to make adjustments, but power certainly makes all the difference.

Don’t forget your spin as well. While the ball is in the air, hold the analog stick in the direction you want the spin to go and tap the X or A button. Doing it multiple times will put a backspin, side spin or forward spin on your shot, allowing you to adjust for when it lands. This can make all the difference in getting an easier putt – or staying out of bounds.

Those are some of the basics to keep in mind, but we’ll cover them more in-depth with our swing article next week.

The Power of Putting

When you do get to the green, sometimes you’ll need to putt once or twice in order to get the ball in the hole. Now, the putting system is different from previous games, so make sure you pay attention to this.

As you first line up your putt, you’ll see a guidance line that leads to the hole. Be sure to press the Triangle or Y button to get a closer look at the terrain – sometimes, you’ll see curves or uphill/downhill changes that make a difference in the ball’s momentum. From there, line up your putt with quick adjustments.

The best thing you can do when it comes to getting proper putts is to aim your putter just where the guideline begins to break on the course. You’ll have to adjust speed along the way, but this gives you an idea of where the ball will curve after you hit it. It’s not always a guaranteed success, but, at the very least, you can get it closer to the hole so your second shot is a tap-in.

Don’t hit the ball too hard, unless you’re facing an uphill run. In that case, feel free to make an adjustment of a couple of feet on distance, and it’ll roll closer to the hole. Otherwise, it’s going to go right past it – and you could very well face an even worse putt than the one you just went through. Make sure to get the proper power going.

Coming Out of the Rough or Sand

Finally, you’re going to get in some out-of-bounds trouble every once in a while, like if you misjudge a shot or send it flying a little too fast. In this case, on the easier setting, your club will automatically be chosen for you, so that you can just aim for where you want the ball to go back on the course and swing away. Otherwise, you’ll want to find the right club for the job.

Avoid the wood clubs. These are meant for power on a smooth surface and get almost nothing done coming out of hazards. Instead, stick with your power and sand wedge, depending on how close you are to the hole. A good iron may also be used, given that the distance is right, but otherwise just stick with the smaller wedges. With these, you’ll get back on the course, where you can continue your stride towards the green. It beats leaving a divot and having your ball only go a few feet.

Good luck – and go get those aces!

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour review

It's (probably not) in the game.

With Tiger Woods experiencing the kind of career downturn that would have Messrs Torres and Falcao nodding sympathetically, it's no wonder EA has opted to drop the fairway-dodging flop for its flagship golf series, replacing him with the more successful (and marketable) Rory McIlroy. Surely, then, this is the ideal opportunity for a fresh start, and a series seemingly content to coast along on past successes would be revitalised by its prodigiously talented star?

You could forgive yourself for getting a little excited after the hyperbolic introduction. "Limitless!" chirrups Rich Lerner, like a man triumphantly declaring his favourite Bradley Cooper film. "The ability to break free, to experience golf in ways you never thought possible." What could this mean? My mind raced. An infinite number of procedurally-generated courses? The ability to play anti-gravity space golf against a sentient blancmange using giraffes as clubs? Apparently not. It turns out that "taking your game to levels once only dreamed of" involves little more than pitch-and-putt on a course surrounded by reused Battlefield assets and a mode that might as well be called Rory McIlroy's Mario Golf.

And, it transpires, "limitless" isn't so much an exaggeration as a bald-faced lie. Because EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour Turbo HD Remix has fewer courses, golfers, modes and features than its predecessor. Tiger's last outing had five women from the LPGA Tour; they've been unceremoniously dropped here, as has roughly half the roster of male golfers. There are 12 courses, when two years ago we had 20 (heck, it's two fewer than Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 managed). Gone are the detailed character customisation options for your career golfer, replaced instead by a handful of preset avatars, most of which look like they've been designed by someone who's never seen a human face, but once had one described to them over a Skype call from a noisy venue with particularly flaky wi-fi.

ea sports rory mcilroy pga tour putting tips

In fact, the career mode as a whole is significantly undernourished. I qualified for the PGA Tour after placing second in my first round as an amateur, and then joylessly worked my way through a series of disconnected tournaments. There's no sense of pageantry surrounding the big competitions, and very little fanfare when you win a tournament: you get a dry text report with a trite quote or two from your golfer. Your stats will steadily rise, and occasionally you'll unlock some more branded gear, but otherwise there's little sense of progress - not least because there's no tangible record of your recent achievements, just a series of rudimentary stat tables. The Highlights tab, meanwhile, simply collects reports of completed rounds and sponsorship deals. In an age of "Xbox, record that" and Share buttons, perhaps it shouldn't come as a surprise that you can't watch or save replays of your best shots within the game, but it's disappointing not to have the option.

It's far from the only thing that's missing. There are no practice rounds in Career mode, no optional objectives to complete for XP boosts. In multiplayer - online or off - you can only select between Stroke Play and Match Play. There's no Best Ball, no Alternate Shot, no Four Ball, no Skins. No Skins! EA Tiburon has promised several free updates to the game that will add new courses and features, though I'm not sure that compensates for the absence of options that have been an integral part of the series for years. Even the Country Clubs from Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 have been removed.

This might be less of a problem if what remained was a noticeable improvement on previous entries. It isn't. The courses, rendered in the Frostbite engine, look good for the most part, but there are obvious performance issues throughout. It's never a good sign when a game has pop-in on the title screen and so it proves: foliage will often appear from nowhere, and there's a sporadic shimmering effect in certain areas. Presentational sloppiness is pervasive. Menus suffer from noticeable delays, sluggish transitions and weird little inconsistencies. Even the claim of no loading times isn't strictly true - though they're appreciably brief, interstitial shots of leaderboards, your golfer and close-ups of the next hole number stall you from teeing off.

ea sports rory mcilroy pga tour putting tips

At least the commentary from Rich Lerner and Frank Nobilo offers some enlightening facts. I now know, for example, that Tom Watson once won the Open at Royal Troon, that Royal Troon was the site at which Tom Watson won the Open, and that one of the great Open champions at Royal Troon is Tom Watson - all from one 18-hole round. It's a pity they don't have more lines, as their commentary is fine and surprisingly naturalistic - there are even a couple of minor stumbles and grammatical flubs which sound like normal conversation rather than obviously scripted soundbites (though you'll still hear a few of those).

All of these problems are undoubtedly damaging, and all the more irritating for the fact that underneath it all it still plays a solid game of golf. The tutorial, or Prologue, is a nice bit of business which takes you through the three different swing types while allowing you to play key moments from the closing stages of a tightly-fought Open as McIlroy faces off against Martin Kaymer. Key shots and holes are interspersed with observations from the man himself delivered to camera. It's a neat idea that gives you a sense of occasion that's missing elsewhere. How odd that EA Tiburon should reserve it for the tutorial.

Also worth noting is the degree with which you can customise your swing. I'm a fan of the classic three-click system employed in many other golf games, though the gauge moves a little too slowly for my tastes here, and so I quickly reverted to the traditional analogue swing. As someone who played Tiger for many years on PlayStation 2 and 3, I was initially surprised at how sensitive it was - the comparative lack of deadzone on the DualShock 4 means any slight deviation from a perfectly straight down-and-up motion can see you slice drives into the heavy rough - though once you've acclimatised, you'll likely want to switch to Tour mode, which is more responsive and complex still, while offering fewer aim assists. The grid overlay on greens still doesn't give you the most useful read of the topography of the putting surface, and so I retained the aiming guideline for putting - even though it's actively unhelpful for any shot that breaks both ways on its way to the hole. Still, EA Sports isn't the only developer that needs to work on its short game, and I appreciated the ability to remove the training wheels at my own pace.

ea sports rory mcilroy pga tour putting tips

Strangely, one of the most successful additions is the one that feels most out of place. The Night Club Challenge provides a number of bite-sized objectives with a variety of outlandish power-ups and features like turbo boosts, portals and sticky balls. Some stages are more like croquet than golf, while one objective, where you manually guide your ball through rings to top-up boost power en route to distant score markers, fleetingly reminded me of the brilliant Monkey Target. With three stars to collect on each challenge, it feels as if it was designed as a mobile spin-off - and might actually be a better fit on smartphones.

Its inclusion can be read one of two ways. Perhaps it was added to bulk up an otherwise insubstantial package, or perhaps EA Sports is targeting an audience which doesn't actually like the real sport that much. There's further evidence of this elsewhere: the default option for Career mode is Quick Rounds, which only lets you play "the most important holes" while determining your progress elsewhere based on your existing stats and form.

The assumption seems to be that most players won't have the desire or the stamina to play a full round - though in light of the limited number of courses, it may simply be a way to minimise repetition. Either way, EA Tiburon has produced a game hardly befitting a player of McIlroy's talents. The so-called "next generation of golf" looks uncomfortably similar to the last, and there's substantially less of it. Only the quality of the underlying game saves this from the ignominy of an Avoid sticker.

It is said that whatever you think about last before going to bed is what you will dream about. It's why Xander Schauffele thinks about a Masters green jacket.

“As many dreams … as I can have wearing a green jacket or someone putting it on me on the 18th green, that's what I try and envision,” Schauffele said Monday.

Schauffele has come close. He finished runner-up to Tiger Woods in 2019, but Schauffele is still chasing that dream. It’s a universal feeling among those on the grounds at Augusta National. If you’re a professional golfer, you’ve most likely dreamed of a putt to win the Masters or contemplated what you’d put on your Champions Dinner menu. Schauffele is still waiting for a chance to play Augusta National with his dad, Stefan. Schauffele could likely make it happen, but his dad won’t allow it. Not yet.

“He told me a long time ago, ‘I'm only going to play when you're a member,’” Schauffele said.

Someone will realize those dreams this week. Schauffele is one of the favorites coming off a strong start to his season, highlighted by his T2 at THE PLAYERS Championship. But he isn’t one of our biggest storylines. That’s what The Five is dedicated to this week. As players refine their preparation before Thursday’s opening round, let’s take stock of what’s to come. The Five examines the must-follow storylines that set the stage for the year's first major championship.

1. Tiger Woods: Focus on the cut, not contention

When Tiger Woods tees it up on Thursday at the Masters, it will be just his third competitive round of 2024. If he finishes the round, it will be just his second completed round in an official PGA TOUR event since last year’s Masters.

It’s inarguable to say Woods can find magic at Augusta National. It’s also inarguable that Woods lacks the one thing he’s preached as necessary for much of his career: competitive reps. His only start of 2024 came at The Genesis Invitational in February, and he withdrew during his second round with flu-like symptoms.

So what will win out: experience or rust?

That sets up an exciting push-and-pull with history as its backdrop. Woods has made 23 consecutive cuts at the Masters, tied with Gary Player and Fred Couples for the longest streak in tournament history. He can take that record for himself this year.

“I think it's consistency, it's longevity and it's an understanding of how to play this golf course,” Woods said. “... And it means a lot.”

If there’s a place Woods can piece it together, it’s Augusta National. But to expect Woods to contend is difficult, particularly when some of the sport's other top stars are in top form. Woods’ fight to make the cut will still be plenty intriguing and realistic. Holding the consecutive cuts record at Augusta would be fitting for the man who owns the longest consecutive cuts made record on the PGA TOUR.

2. Is Scheffler’s putting fixed?

The saga that never ends. Scottie Scheffler enters the Masters as the heavy favorite to claim his second green jacket in three years. He put together a dominant month of March, winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and THE PLAYERS Championship. It looked like he had solved the putting woes that had plagued him from truly dominating the PGA TOUR over the last 24 months.

Then he pulled a 6-footer on the 72nd hole of the Texas Children’s Houston Open to miss a playoff and the possibility of his third consecutive win. Was it a simple misread? Or is it a sign that Scheffler still has some work to shore up the putter in the biggest moments? Remember, Scheffler famously four-putted on the final hole of the 2022 Masters, and the glassy greens of Augusta are no place to lose confidence in your flatstick.

It seems reductive to say the putting is the only thing that matters for Scheffler at Augusta, but he’s shown it to be true. His superb ball-striking has traveled to every event for the past two years. Whether Scheffler wins or loses falls solely on the one variable can’t seem to control: putting.

3. Approach play, fast start key to Rory McIlroy’s chances

Rory McIlroy’s quest for a Masters title is often considered a “matter of when.” Given his talent, stature and course fit, a green jacket is assumed to be inevitable. Yet the more years McIlroy leaves empty-handed, the more the pressure ramps up and the definitive proclamations begin to crack.

This Masters will be McIlroy’s 10th attempt at completing the career Grand Slam. This year also marks 10 years since his last major victory. McIlroy revealed it feels like he’s trying to win his first again. So as close as he’s come to achieving Masters glory, he’s in some ways no closer to it than when he made his debut at Augusta National in 2009.

But for all the consternation McIlroy has faced about his Masters shortcomings, it could all change in four days. To do it, McIlroy will need to improve his approach play, which has been his Achilles’ heel at Augusta National and for most of this season.

There were signs of life at last week’s Valero Texas Open. He finished third in Strokes Gained: Approach and notched his first top-10 on the PGA TOUR this season. That came a week after he sought advice from legendary swing coach Butch Harmon.

But it’s hard to say if that will continue this week. McIlroy has come to the Masters playing amazing and then missed the cut. He has nearly won the Masters after missing the cut the week prior.

The key will be his start. Over the last 10 years, McIlroy’s scoring average in the first and second rounds is 72.3. His weekend scoring average is 69.4, nearly three shots better.

Then there’s this stat: 36 of the last 37 Masters champions have been in the top 10 through two rounds, according to Justin Ray of Twenty First Group.

McIlroy starting slow is not an option. If McIlroy is finally going to get the monkey off his back , there will be signs. It starts with improved approach play and a fast start.

4. Best first-timers class since …

Every crop of Masters first-timers features a few studs. Last year showcased Tom Kim and Sahith Theegala alongside amateurs Sam Bennett and Gordon Sargent. The prior year included Sam Burns and Min Woo Lee.

I’d challenge someone to come up with a better first-timers class than this year’s, though. Among the players making their debut at the Masters are reigning U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, Ludvig Åberg and Nicolai Højgaard – two European Ryder Cuppers – and two PGA TOUR winners under age 23 in Nick Dunlap and Akshay Bhatia.

One swing from every first timer in the 2024 Masters field

The headliners are Clark and Åberg, who enter the week at Nos. 4 and 9 in the world, respectively. Clark, the rare major champion who has not yet played Augusta, might have three wins this season if not for Scottie Scheffler. He finished runner-up to Scheffler in back-to-back weeks at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and THE PLAYERS Championship. He won the rain-shortened AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He’s shown himself to be a big-game hunter and is arguably the second-best player in the world right now behind Scheffler. How he tackles Augusta National as a first-timer will be fascinating.

The context of Åberg’s debut might be even crazier. The 24-year-old played in a Ryder Cup, won PGA TOUR and DP World Tour events and cracked the top 10 in the world before playing a major championship. The Masters is not only his tournament debut but his major championship debut. His game is a fit at any course, Augusta National included, but this is a new stage for the Swede – who has handled everything else in his path.

Other first-timers include reigning PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year Eric Cole, current-season winners Jake Knapp, Matthieu Pavon, Austin Eckroat and Stephan Jaeger and world No. 1 amateur Christo Lamprecht.

They will all be chasing rarified air. Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979 was the last Masters rookie to win the green jacket. If there was going to be a year to do it, it might be someone from this class of first-timers.

5. How will the weather affect the course?

One of the marvels of golf architecture, Augusta National has not had the opportunity to flex its full strength on the field in recent years as rainy conditions have softened what can be a firm and fiery test.

Given early feedback from the ground, that could change this year. Reports indicate the course is as firm and fast as it has been in several years.

“I mean, I was hitting 5-irons that were coming into par 5s that were bouncing, tomahawking over the green, and I was like, ‘This is pretty cool.’ It's been a while,” Schauffele said Monday.

Whether it stays that way will be the question. Current forecasts estimate more than an inch of rain could fall on Thursday, though any precipitation seems largely isolated to just Thursday. With windy and dry conditions expected to come through the Augusta area following the rain, the hope for a firm and fiery test over the weekend is still a strong possibility.

What the weather will do remains to be seen, but players have their preferences on how they would like it to play.

“If the course is playing hard and fast, it's more difficult. Winning score is usually … higher,” 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama said. “When it's wet, I mean, it can go to 20-under. I like both, but if it goes to 20-under, my chances … get slimmer. So, I would like a tougher setup where it plays drier, fast and hard.”

Added reigning Open Championship winner Brian Harman: “I prefer it to be hot and windy. I feel like that gives me the best opportunity. When it's cold and wet, that's kind of a tough row to hoe for me.”

EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Gameplay Features

In EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR , we wanted to give you the ability to customize your gameplay experience to your liking.

There are three gameplay styles to choose from: Arcade, Classic and Tour.

This style uses a simple analog swing mechanic that is familiar for to those who have played previous games in the versions of  PGA TOUR  franchise. The length of your backswing determines the power of your shot, while keeping your swing on plane will affects accuracy.

Additionally, aids like power boost, spin, and an aiming arc will help make this style the most accessible. It’s like slipping right back into a comfortable, broken-in pair of golf spikes.

Remember how you used to push the “A Button” back in the day to set the power, then tap it again to lock in accuracy? Classic controls bring those days back, using a 3-Click meter to determine how far your shot goes and how accurate you hit it.

However, this isn’t some rookie mode though, you’ve got to get the timing just right to hit the perfect shot. You also can’t add spin after the fact, so if the ball starts veering off-line you’ll just have to be ready to deal with the consequences.

The true pros will want to try out the Tour control scheme, as it feels the closest to the real thing. The length of your backswing and the speed of the follow-through set the power, while accuracy is determined by how straight a line you make with the analog stick.

There are no assists such as spin, zoom and aiming arc. Just you, the club and the ball.

There's also an option to customize your gameplay style to your liking, borrowing elements from each style. Want to use the 3-Button settings but also add mid-air spin? Done.

Play the game your way and find the setup that’s most comfortable for you.

We’ve done a lot of work to make sure the game feels like it’s giving you appropriate feedback and helpful visual indicators. Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s new and how it works.

We’ve introduced/developed the Aiming Arc to help you visualize various aspects of the game. The arc will account for wind, elevation, ball lie and shot shaping, which will passively teach you the nuances of the game.

If you connect with a perfect swing, the ball will go where the arc shows. The best golfers in the world can visualize their shots before they even take them, and now you can too.

THE PUTT READ

The putt read shows you how your ball will break if hit with optimal speed. The key here is aiming at the right distance – and also making a pure stroke.

BACKSWING METER

The new backswing meter lets you know when you’ve reached the end of your backswing, based on the shot you have set up. When you start your backswing, the meter will begin to fill. When you reach the end of your backswing, the meter will be full, and a forward swing should be initiated.

Be careful when playing Tour gameplay style, because you can over-extend your backswing and the meter will overfill red.

PERFECT TIMING

SWING PLANE

When playing on Tour or Arcade, it’s important to remember to follow the proper swing plane. If your swing is off-line, this will result in your shot either hooking or slicing.

This is indicated by either a yellow or orange line tracing your backswing.

AUTHENTIC BALL DROPS

Even though courses are more open than ever before, there are still rules in golf and there are certain areas where you can’t play a ball.

In the event your ball goes into a hazard, you are given realistic options for where you can take a drop.

If you hit your ball into a water hazard without a designated drop zone, you have a few options.

You can either replay the ball from where you took your previous shot, drop a new ball within two club-lengths of the point of entry, or take your next shot from any point behind where the ball entered the hazard, in line with the pin.

The options change a bit if you happen to dunk a shot on a hole where a drop zone is present. You can either hit your next shot from the previous location, or play it from the designated drop zone.

If you hit into an unplayable lie (imagine the ball getting stuck in a tree or between rocks where you can’t make a swing) then you can play your next shot from anywhere back on a line with the pin behind the unplayable spot.

That’s a small taste of what you can expect when you get your hands on  EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR . We’ll have lots more info for you about all the different elements of the game coming soon. See you on the links!

3. EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Prologue

Now I recommend that you play the prologue tutorials whether you're new to PGA Tour or not. Use the prologue to see how comfortable you are with this game and what settings you are going to be best for you. If you do not want to play the tutorial go straight to 'Play Rory's US Open'. The first section takes you through different shots and is fairly basic stuff. Next will take you on to different types of swings and once you complete this you will have to choose your swing type. Once you have done this click 'Continue' and you will now be playing as McIlroy in the US open.

During this you just play a few holes, it plays like a tutorial suggesting shots and explaining how to play the game. During this there is a good chance that you will hit the flagstick with a chip in from around the edge of the green as it gives you a couple of opportunities to do so. Even if you don't it is likely you will unlock it in the near future.

Hit the flagstick

Pin Seeker

Once you manage to beat Martin Kaymer to win you will unlock an achievement. If you don't win the first time go to the 'Play' tab and then click 'Prologue' to replay it.

Win the U.S. Open with Rory vs Martin Kaymer

The FIX is in

Next step is to visit 'Settings' then 'GamePlay Style' and create a new custom style. Now read all the different settings and choose what you think you'll want to play with. You can play with as easy or as hard settings as you like as it makes no difference for achievements but obviously you want to be winning when you're playing. I would recommend that you play with Green Grid, Spin Control and zoom on as they will help you a lot.

"Augusta sets up well for Rory McIlroy with his ball flight and shot shape" - Jordan Spieth on Irish golfer's chances at 2024 Masters

J ordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy both need one singular Major title to complete a career Grand Slam, something very few golfers have ever done. Spieth still needs the PGA Championship, while McIlroy has been longing for the Masters trophy. They've each won the one the other needs, and they'll be competitors this weekend when the tournament commences.

Spieth lamented the fact that Augusta isn't the course he needs to win at, since he's had so much success. The golfer has done well there, but the green jacket isn't the one that evades him.

He did say that he believed McIlroy was in a good spot. Augusta National, according to Spieth, plays to his strengths. Spieth revealed via Golf by Tour Miss:

"However, I always thought Augusta set up well for Rory with his ball flight and shot shape. I think Augusta is a very athletic golf course where you see shots and shapes you don't see the rest of the year. I've always been able to see the shapes of the greens. I see a lot of guys putting below the hole there, but that's not my problem."

McIlroy , who has been trying for nine years to break the Major drought and to capture a Masters title to complete the Grand Slam, said he tries to focus on good memories when he goes to Augusta National.

He said he was given good advice to stay on the high line by Ben Crenshaw, and that trying to do too well on this golf course can easily derail one:

"If somebody says go shoot even par for four days there, you think you could do that, but if somebody says go shoot 67, you could easily shoot 75, because you start firing at pins. Good golf at Augusta feels like boring golf."

McIlroy will try to put this into play beginning on April 11.

Rory McIlroy opens up on career Grand Slam chase

If Rory McIlroy ever captures that green jacket he has fought for for so long, he will have done practically everything there is to do in this sport. He once jokingly said that he'd play for 10 years or until he won a Masters, whichever came first.

Nevertheless, it's not a joke that he needs this one to do something most golfers can only dream of. It's hard to win a single Major, let alone all four of them individually. The same journey is being undertaken by Jordan Spieth , and McIlroy opened up about the two of their chances of completing that.

McIlroy said Spieth probably has a tougher road to that elusive career Grand Slam that both are seeking.

"I think from a purely preparation standpoint, he (Spieth) probably has the tougher road because the PGA site changes every year. But for mine, you're coming off seven months without a Major championship tournament, so it builds on its own. I would say there are pros and cons to both."

McIlroy will embark on his latest attempt this weekend, while Spieth awaits this summer to try and win what he needs to.
