Travel + Leisure / Reese Herrington

New York City is in the midst of fashion week, and between the looks from the streets of the city to the designer-clad catwalks , there's a lot to be excited about this year. As a New York City-based travel writer, I especially love this time of year as it's an opportunity to see what’s in store for this season’s fashion — and of course, to get inspiration for my vacation wardrobe. And while not all of the runway looks are practical for travel, that's not to say that you can't incorporate that same level of grandeur and inventiveness into your own closet. In fact, I’ve curated a list of some of the best NYFW styles that I’d actually pack in my suitcase, and that you should consider shopping for your next trip.

Taking a cue from the coquette wardrobe staples from the Sandy Liang show to elevated workwear spotted at the Tommy Hilfiger show , this roundup features high fashion-inspired pieces from across the web that travelers can (and should) be channeling on their next getaway. From eye-catching bolds with the Astr the Label Floral Corset Satin Dress to trousers that you’ll want to wear everywhere , these picks ensure that you'll be comfortable, look put-together, and have an outfit for any occasion on your itinerary. Keep reading to explore the top NYFW Fall-Winter 2024 looks that will make your next vacation 'fit suited for any runway.

Workwear Style

Tommy Hilfiger

It's no secret that workwear-inspired fashion is a prominent winter trend this year, but after taking one look at the Tommy Hilfiger Fall-Winter 2024 show , it’s clear that it's here to stay. Fortunately, the look is quite easy to replicate on a day-to-day basis, especially for travel. Equip your wardrobe with sleek trousers, structured blouses, and confident blazers, and you're set. I spotted some especially great picks, starting with a sophisticated button down from the collection and the best-selling (and often sold out) Spanx Perfect Pants . With these pieces, you can confidently go from the office to the airport, and then right out to dinner when you get to your destination.

  • Tommy Hilfiger Contrast Trim Shirt , $100
  • Tommy Hilfiger Wide-Leg Cropped Twill Pants , $139
  • Zaayo Button Down Shirt , $25 (originally $40)
  • Anthropologie The Bennet Buttondown Shirt by Maeve , $98
  • Spanx The Perfect Pants , $148
  • Cicy Bell Blazer , $58 (originally $71)
  • Tronjori Palazzo Trousers , $34
  • Abercrombie Crisp Ultra Wide-Leg Trousers , $68 (originally $80)
  • Abercrombie Oversized Side Button Poplin Shirt , $60 (originally $70)
  • Armour Vert Tobie Femme Fête Blazer , $119 (originally $238)

Coquette Wardrobe Staples

Sandy Liang is the queen of embodying playful girlhood into her styles, and from her collaboration with Baggu that sold out twice to her seemingly single handedly pioneering the year of the bow , her FW24 collection is nothing short of flirty, fun pieces. We’re talking fuzzy skirts, mini handbags, understated bows, neutral basics (with the occasional pop of red), and long-sleeve A-line dresses that are incredibly easy to incorporate into your wardrobe. I found a few ways to replicate these looks, starting with quintessential long-sleeve tops like this one from Uniqlo , adorable statement flats from Vivaia , and a glamorous hoodie from Aritzia that exudes the same playfulness seen on the runway.

  • Lyaner Women's A-line Long Sleeve Dress , $38
  • Jiechengjophoo Mini Purse , $19
  • Loft Sparkle Bow Ribbed Cardigan , $28 (originally $80)
  • Endless Rose Fuzzy Mermaid Maxi Skirt , $90
  • Free People Petite Bow , $12
  • Everlane The Linen Popover Shirt , $48 (originally $88)
  • Vivaia Round-Toe Flats + Bow , $85 (originally $105)
  • Aritzia Cozy Fleece Boyfriend Boxy Zip Hoodie , $90
  • Uniqlo Ribbed High Neck Long-Sleeve T-Shirt , $15
  • Wayf Siren Satin Midi Dress , $65 (originally $99)
  • Abercrombie Cascading Ruffle Mini Skort , $60
  • Abercrombie Drama Skirt Bow-Back Gown , $128 (originally $150)

Bold Statement Pieces

Anthropologie

Of all of the NYFW FW24 shows, probably one of my favorites was Kim Shui ’s line of bold dresses, skirts, and tops that played with different types of material, prints, and cuts. The brand is known for its ornate, eye-catching designs (including this iconic Lace Butterfly Dress ), and this latest show was nothing short of stunning; top themes were silk fabrics, snakeskin prints, and bright florals. As a fashion savvy traveler with an affinity for bold hues, I absolutely gushed over everything in this collection. And while I love casual wardrobe staples, it’s the bright pieces that turn heads that I look to when curating the perfect vacation outfit. Some of the pieces from the collection are already available for pre-order, including this Red Wine Snakeskin Coat and Magenta Silk Blouse , but if you can’t wait to get your hands on them (or don’t have hundreds of dollars to spend), I’ve tracked down a few pieces to replicate these looks, for less.

  • Astr the Label Floral Corset Satin Dress , $45 (originally $99)
  • M.M. La Fleur The Tatum Top , $265
  • Pausus Satin Button Down Top , $28
  • Modegal Women's Satin Midi Skirt , $28 with on-site coupon (originally $34)
  • Anthropologie Conditions Apply Elva Slip Midi Dress , $128
  • Cole Haan Women’s Lux Snakeskin Embossed Mules , $180
  • Topshop Snakeskin Print Faux Leather Pants , $48 (originally $79)
  • Floerns Women's Snakeskin Fitted Mock Turtleneck , $22

Copper All Day

Luxury designer Christian Siriano dubbed ‘Liquid Glamour’ the theme of his FW24 runway collection, which was accompanied by jaw-dropping, copper-hued pieces. I’ve never personally felt so strongly about copper garments until I saw the looks, and now I want everything in my closet to scream "liquid glamour." If you also want your wardrobe to exude this kind of opulence, I’ve found similar pieces, including this on-sale embellished tank at Anthropologie and ASOS satin corset that’ll immediately grant you "best-dressed" status at the resort.

  • Anthropologie Maeve Embellished Cutwork Cross-Back Tank , $100 (originally $158)
  • Anthropologie Significant Other Demi Backless Gown , $286
  • Rails Monique Dress in Cedar , $248
  • Grace Karin Women's Satin Blouse , $32 with on-site coupon (originally $40)
  • Astr the Label Corset Satin Dress , $69 (originally $98)
  • Dolce Vita Women's Santel Buckle Mules , $72 (originally $120)
  • Pleione Satin Long-Sleeve in Copper , $30 (originally $68)
  • Dokotoo Women's Oversized Crewneck Sweater , $33 (originally $50)
  • Abercrombie Giselle Pleat Release Midi Dress in Paprika , $100 (originally $130)
  • Adidas Originals Women's Hypersleek Sneakers , $99 (originally $110)
  • Hoka Women's Mach 5 Running Sneakers , $112 (originally $140)

Where the Fashion Set Is Traveling in 2024

From Ibiza to Mumbai, it’s going to be a great year for jet-setting.

At the turn of the new year, some people make resolutions, and others make reservations—of the plane, hotel, and restaurant variety, that is.

Whatever their line of work, and wherever their journeys bring them—whether it’s Gstaad, India, or Seoul, Korea—one thing is clear: Chic people continue to draw on travel as a major source of inspiration. Here’s where they’re heading this year.

LaQuan Smith; Designer and Founder of LaQuan Smith

laquan smith

“In 2024, I’m looking forward to traveling to Mumbai, India to immerse myself in the rich culture and see first-hand the elaborate embroidery process I’ve been using throughout my collections.”

Maria Dueñas Jacobs; Founder of Super Smalls

maria dueñas jacobs

“This is a big travel year for us, as our three girls are now old enough to really appreciate and engage in the trip. First, we’re headed to Madrid, so that they can practice their Spanish, meet extended family they haven’t had a chance to yet, and go to an Atlético de Madrid soccer game, because few things compare to the energy of a La Liga face-off!”

Nicky Zimmermann; Co-Founder and Creative Director of Zimmermann

nicky zimmermann

“St. Barth is such a great destination—it’s an ideal place to escape the cold with a nice balance of relaxation and fun. Since it’s a French island, I can get lots of my favorite beauty products, too. Pharmacie de Gustavia is my go-to for its impressive selection of creams and elixirs. And by the next time I visit, our new Zimmermann store will have opened on Rue du Général de Gaulle, which I can’t wait to see.”

Sofia Sanchez de Betak; Designer and Founder of Chufy

sofia sanchez de betak

“I have to say, since the pandemic, long-distance travel hasn’t been my priority. These days, the Canary Islands are calling me—the hikes, the farms, the soil, all the greenery!”

Tina Leung; Influencer

tina leung

“Just the usual: Paris for couture week in January, and then I’m hoping to ski somewhere in Europe afterwards—but no plans yet. I have to be in Milan in the beginning of February before New York Fashion Week, and then the whole circuit starts all over again.”

Chrissy Rutherford; Writer and Brand Consultant

chrissy rutherford

“When I think of wanting to relax in 2024, Ibiza is top of mind. It’s such a misunderstood place, precisely because people think you only go there to party, but it really is what you make of it. The island can be so relaxing if you seek out those types of experiences, like going to the Six Senses Ibiza , which has so many wellness and healing activities. I want to go on a hike overlooking Es Vedrà, which is one of the most magnetic places in the world, and shop in Santa Gertrudis for great clothing and homewares.”

Katie Sturino; Founder of Megababe and Body Acceptance Advocate

katie sturino

“I went to the Aeolian Islands in Sicily last summer, but my trip was cut short because I got a stomach bug, so I sadly didn’t get to enjoy anything that the Principe di Salina hotel had to offer. I can’t wait to go back and ride scooters around this quiet island and swim in the most clear water I have ever seen.”

Gigi Burris; Designer, Milliner, and Founder of Gigi Burris

gigi burris and rockhouse

“The past six months have been dedicated to our store opening, which means limited travel opportunities. Now that we are open (in New York!), I am ready to take some straw hats out and head down to Negril for sunshine and cliff jumping. My husband and I love to stay at Rockhouse and consume all of the jerk seasoning!”

Hillary Taymour; Creative Director of Collina Strada

hillary taymour

“I am going to Seoul for a store takeover and party with E()pty . I am so excited to try interesting skin care treatments, like stem cell facials and customized skin analysis. I love Korean food and just want to go on a kimchi frenzy around the city.”

Dr. Barbara Sturm; Founder of Dr. Barbara Sturm

dr barbara sturm

“Gstaad is beautiful every season, and it has everything, from swimming in the river and mushroom-picking to skiing in the mountains and hiking in the forest. If you’re seeking social activities, it has the best hotels, too. The Palace , with its beautiful terrace, has breathtaking mountain views, making it the perfect spot for lunch with friends. I also love Le Grand Bellevue for its beautiful rooms, and you must visit the spa, which offers Dr. Barbara Sturm facials and all of your favorite products. Once you come to Gstaad, you’ll be a fan for life.”

Jane Gottschalk; Co-Founder and Creative Director of Perfect Moment

jane gottschalk

“Picture-perfect Aspen always has a magical vibe. Start the day at the Gorsuch Ski Café for great coffee and French-style croissants. Indulge in après at The Snow Lodge in the St. Regis, or try to grab a sold-out spot at its new spa, RAKxa . The best coffee or lunch stop is Ajax Tavern at The Little Nell, right at the base of Aspen Mountain (a.k.a. Ajax). See and be seen at the ever-vibrant Japanese restaurant Matsuhisa or the slightly more formal Catch Steak . The best part? You can walk everywhere.”

Jessel Taank; The Real Housewives of New York City Star and Founder of ŌUSHQ

jessel taank

“I’m heading to Mumbai to meet several designers for ŌUSHQ , my new retail platform showcasing emerging South Asian brands like Rimzim Dadu and Zara Umrigar. The attention to detail in Indian fashion is unparalleled. The hand embroidery you find there takes years to perfect.”

J.J. Martin; Founder of La DoubleJ

jj martin

“I was invited on this wonderful trip to Mustique in March that I can’t wait to go on. I’m hoping it will be the perfect post-Milan Fashion Week collapse. The raw nature of the island looks really powerful, so I plan to immerse myself not just in the water, but also in the beautiful gardens and greenery there. If I happen to stumble upon a new unique way in which to spread our prints while I’m there, all the better!”

Karla Welch; Stylist, Creative Director, and Co-Founder of The Period Company

karla welch

“The only place I want to go is Dog Island, which is me and my husband’s little getaway on the best lake in the world in British Columbia, Canada. We travel with our son and dogs, and then spend the summer there with our entire family, swimming, eating, and playing games—it’s heaven!”

Everything You Need to Know About the Fall 2024 New York Fashion Week Shows

By Vogue Runway

A magic preshow moment at Marc Jacobs

The rest of America may be counting down the days to Super Bowl LVIII , but in these parts, we’re living and breathing for New York Fashion Week. The schedule officially kicks off this Friday, February 9, with Peter Do ’s sophomore outing at Helmut Lang, and Vogue Runway will review close to 100 collections before Thom Browne caps things off on Valentine’s Day. (Pressing question: will we get boxes of chocolate, like we did last year?) But the goings-on start tomorrow with a 40th anniversary screening of Sophie’s Choice hosted by Lanvin , which is supposed to be announcing its new creative director any day. Meryl Streep, a frequent Lanvin wearer, will be in attendance, along with a host of other Oscar winners and nominees. We’ll be bringing our Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarers! By the way, Vogue Runway is adding a new feature to our iOS and Android app, just in time for the fall 2024 season; with the Live Feed you’ll get up-to-the-instant posts about all the goings-on from Vogue editors around the world. See you at the shows!

Feud: Capote vs. The Swans may have debuted just last week, but dare we say this is going to be the season of the swan? Designers are no strangers to the allure of Truman Capote or his socialite pals—and his famed Black & White Ball has been providing inspirational fodder for glamorous gowns for almost 60 years. But now there’s the added power of the iconic actresses embodying the most glamorous women of the last century. Will we see Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny, Calista Flockhart, or Demi Moore sitting front row at the shows? Which designers will invoke the glamorous spirits of CZ Guest, Babe Paley, Slim Keith, Lee Radziwill, and Ann Woodward on their runways? Will sculpted waves make a comeback? And for some cheeky fun, who will redo Björk’s Marjan Pejoski swan dress? We’re not turning this into a drinking game, but you can, if you want to.—Laia Garcia-Furtado

Many Happy Returns

Backstage at Marc Jacobs

Speaking of drinking, let’s raise a glass to the designers celebrating milestones this season. Tory Burch opened her first store on Elizabeth Street in NoLIta 20 years ago this month, Joseph Altuzarra’s brand is turning 15, and Adam Lippes is marking a decade in business. “I’m quite proud to be celebrating our 10 year anniversary as an independent New York designer,” Lippes says. “There have certainly been a lot of ups and downs—but aren’t there always?—and I’ve learned to very much appreciate the good days. Through it all, we’ve been able to remain true to why we started the collection on day one. And that is to make the finest collection of American sportswear through fabric, fit, and construction—quiet luxury before quiet luxury was a thing.” Getting a jumpstart on the festivities, Marc Jacobs gave his 40th anniversary show a name, Wonder, and delivered on multiple fronts, from the swans-on-psychedelics wigs and curvy-heeled doll shoes to the shape-shifting clothes. Fashion is cyclical; you’re up, you’re down, in and out. That the job still brings Jacobs joy, and that he shares it with us so dependably in return? That’s the real achievement.—Nicole Phelps

Now on View

Gallery View Visibility.

The woman question—i.e. Why is it that too few top design jobs are held by women?—is likely to be animating many front-row conversations this season. Off the runways, though, female forces of fashion are taking up plenty of space. “ Women Dressing Women ” and “ Mood of the Moment: Gaby Aghion and the House of Chloé ” are respectively on view at the Costume Institute and The Jewish Museum. Also worth a visit, with 1980s proportions on the upswing, is the Museum at FIT’s “Statement Sleeves” show. For those more compelled by the industry’s here and now, “The New Village” at Pratt Manhattan Gallery will put the spotlight on New York’s most experimental designers and labels of the last decade, from SC103 and Elena Velez to Susan Cianciolo and Bernadette Corporation.—Laird Borrelli-Persson

Ludovic de Saint Sernin , the French designer who made a splash with his season-long Ann Demeulemeester stint, and has been pushing the boundaries of gender expression on his runways since 2018, is on the schedule this season. “Now feels like the right time for me to finally tend to my community [in New York] and give them my best work,” he told Vogue Runway of his plans. “I feel like it will be my most important collection since my first.” He’ll be going up against the Super Bowl’ Chiefs/49ers matchup on February 11, but the Swifties can have the game. The New Kids on the Block…

A first look at Colleen Allens debut collection.

A first look at Colleen Allen’s debut collection.

With every New York Fashion Week comes a crop of fresh talents, be they new-ish names who’ve just made the official calendar or younglings who’ve chosen this moment for their debuts. On this season’s list is Colleen Allen , a former Vogue assistant who cut her teeth at Raf Simons’s Calvin Klein and The Row; Project Runway season 20 winner Bishme Cromatie ; Jane Wade , the Pacific-Northwestern who examines the intersection of the corporate and utilitarian in her work and presented off-calendar last September; and the Kazakhstan-born designer Meruert Tolegen . I’m particularly curious about Allen, who is a trained menswear designer that decided to launch her label with womenswear. Also on my mind: which stores will pick up Wade, who is wrapping up a two-season exclusive with Bergdrof Goodman. —José Criales-Unzueta

Delpozo, spring 2019. This was the label’s last runway show before its restructuring.

The week also features some notable returns. Derek Lam, who was last on a NYFW runway in the fall 2018 season, leaving fans of his perfectly tailored flared pants bereft, has taken the helm at Câllas Milano, which was co-founded by his partner Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann and entrepreneur Marco Panzeri in 2021. Also staging a comeback is Delpozo. The Spanish label, which briefly captured the fashion world’s attention when the Spaniard Josep Font designed it, is re-launching just in time for its 50th anniversary under the new ownership of Spanish entrepreneur duo Enrique Mellado and Joaquin Trias. Tommy Hilfiger and Monse are on the calendar, too, after a few seasons away. —JCU

Location, Location, Location

Installation view of Mercer Labs.

Installation view of Mercer Labs.

Ladies, get your walking shoes ready. Fall 2024 is shaping up to be the season of the hard-to-get-to Hudson Yards, with Fforme and Thom Browne hosting shows in the neighborhood. Meanwhile, IMG has vacated Spring Studios, conveniently located near both the A/C/E and 1/9 lines, in favor of the Starrett-Lehigh building, three long avenue blocks from the nearest subway. In other location news, Mercer Labs, the new immersive museum by artist Roy Nachum and developer Michael Cayre, is currently open for previews, with its official opening date to be announced soon. The experimental space boasts a number of rooms with impressive LED installations. The best part for us Vogue editors: It’s a six-minute walk from the World Trade Center. So, who’s calling dibs?—JCU

Retail Landscaping

A rendering of KidSupers Williamsburg headquarters.

A rendering of KidSuper’s Williamsburg headquarters.

Luxury department stores may not be what they once were, but people still have to shop! Now, smaller, independent brands are taking the opportunity to carve out spaces in the retail landscape, further cementing their identities and creating a deeper connection with their customers. This month will see the soft opening of the first-ever Batsheva store at 166 Elizabeth Street. “It will be a jewel box of ruched and pleated fabric,” Batsheva Hay explained, adding she’s “literally covering the walls in fabric.” One of the designer’s pandemic projects involved reupholstering vintage chairs in groovy textiles, pieces which will also be available. Over in Williamsburg, KidSuper’s Colm Dillane is unveiling his brand’s massive new headquarters on February 10. Billed as “a sanctuary for dreamers and innovators,” Dillane’s plan for the 10,000-square-foot location includes a store, an art gallery, and design, screen-printing, and photo studios. But that’s not all— there’s also a recording studio and a soccer field planned for the space. A one-stop-creative-shop.

Other labels are taking advantage of the week to stake their claim on the city. Gucci will be unveiling the renovation of its Wooster Street flagship—we’re betting on luscious Gucci Rosso interiors. But perhaps we shouldn’t be so hasty about declaring the end of department stores; on February 8, Nordstrom will be hosting a tea party in honor of JW Anderson’s new pop-up shop. Apologies to your credit card in advance.—LGF

The Best Places to Eat, Drink, and Make Social Content During NYFW

Cocodaqs “The Bucket List” meal.

May we suggest starting your day at Colbo , the Lower East Side’s coolest multi-disciplinary retail space? Not only do the baristas make a great third-wave coffee, the boutique stocks the best selection of vintage shirts from Charvet and an excellent range of IYKYK designers including Hed Mayner and Camiel Fortgens, so you can shop while you caffeinate. Later, you might see Colbo’s owners Tal Silberstein and Eldar Hadad out at a show or event.

The interior of Jeans.

Although the Vogue Runway team is likely to be eating lunch at our desks, we don’t say no to dinner invitations. As usual, we’re looking to our colleagues at GQ, who have a knack for sussing out the trendiest restaurants a season before the rest of us. Last September, Will Welch and co. hosted a New York Fashion Week party at the yet-to-open Jean’s , which has since become the hardest reservation in New York. For those fortunate enough to get in, we hear the seafood tower and gigantic cookie are worth trying.

If you don’t want to venture too far from the Starrett-Lehigh building, where Ludovic de Saint Sernin and Area are showing, Coqodaq and Portrait Bar are in the vicinity. Coqodaq and its fancy fried chicken and caviar has quickly become a fashion in-crowd favorite after opening last month. For late-night drinks of the alcoholic and non-alcoholic variety, Portrait Bar serves a multitude of options. The moody interior has been likened to Ralph Lauren’s Polo Bar, but is more conveniently located for those who live downtown.—Irene Kim

And the Award for Day Doing the Most Goes to: February 8

Model Paloma Elsesser takes the mic at Ganni and Nguyen Inc’s karaoke party last September.

Every NYFW there is one day that somehow winds up The Only Day an Event Can Take Place. This season, the honor of the most cursed day goes to February 8. We get it, brands were trying to think of everyone’s busy schedules, but, of course it doesn’t work if everyone has the same idea. Here’s a thorough, but probably non-exhaustive list of every February 8 event in our inbox: a Puma runway show, a Private Policy runway show, a Stone Island film screening, a High Snobiety x Levi’s dinner, a Phillip Lim Lunar New Year dinner, a Maria Cornejo dinner, the opening of “Vivienne Westwood Corsets: 1987 to Present Day” at the brand’s uptown boutique, the public reception of the aforementioned “The New Village: Ten Years of New York Fashion” at Pratt Manhattan Gallery, a KITH brunch toasting the release of Danielle Cäthari’s New Balance collaboration, that tea party to celebrate the JW Anderson x Nordstrom pop-up we just told you about, and a CFDA pre-NYFW cocktail party. May the odds be ever in your favor.—LGF

AI Will (Literally) Be in the Background

Collina Strada spring 2024 readytowear

Collina Strada, spring 2024 ready-to-wear

Last season, Collina Strada’s Hillary Taymour used AI in her design process. This time around, she’s once again experimenting with artificial intelligence—but not on her clothes. Instead, Taymour is using text-to-image model Stable Diffusion to generate a video that will play at the show on February 9. This will follow Private Policy’s off-schedule show the evening prior, which promises to delve into “the untamed frontier of the AI revolution,” as per the invite.  Designers Siyinq Qi and Horan Li harnessed AI for thought processing when creating their fall 24 collection, which explores the sentiments and perspectives the industry is forming on AI. That’s all the murmurs on the AI front, for now, but if Paris men’s is anything to go by, there’s sure to be a couple more backstage mentions. Speaking of technology, Phillip Lim isn’t going full-throttle AI, but his installation (which directly follows the Collina show) will feature tech enhancements by way of projections and sounds by AAPI artists and creators who are interpreting his fall/winter collection. It’s a sign of where fashion is at with AI tech: wrestling with what algorithmic input means for creation and storytelling; juggling AI’s practicalities with human touch. As Private Policy puts it: It’s both the AI gold rush and the Wild West.—Madeleine Schulz

New York Men’s Day will once again kick off the CFDA schedule. The February 9 showcase features Landeros New York, Sivan, Terry Singh, Y.Chroma, Bulan, Pas Une Marque, Tarpley, and The Salting. Singh’s signature move is a pleated skirt—where else can he go from there? The last time Bulan designer Beam Rachapol Ngaongam showed, he had knit most of his impressive collection himself. I’m excited to see what he’s put together this time around. Read about last season’s presentation here . —JCU

Rain Rain Go A-WAY!

We’re sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but for all of you excited to show the world your take on the Mob Wife look (aka an excuse to bring out furs that have languished for too long in the “politically incorrect” side of your closet), Mother Nature has different plans. Currently, the forecast is showing a week of light layering temperatures (40s to 50s) accompanied by a bit of rain to spite those of you who were looking forward to wearing your prettiest hair bows. Will we still see all of these things, plus a few pants-less looks, to boot? Absolutely. One thing about dressing for Fashion Week—make that Fashion Week in general, it’s certainly not for the weak.—LGF

Embrace La Dolce Vita: Your Ultimate Guide to Conquering Milan Fashion Week This February

From flying la compagnie for a one-of-a-kind travel experience to rubbing shoulders with milan’s elite, we’ve got you covered with the ultimate roadmap to fashion week.

Milan Fashion Week

Ah, February. As hearts flutter with Valentine’s Day whispers, the fashion world thrums with a different kind of excitement: fashion month.

Milan Fashion Week, in particular, is a whirlwind of avant-garde trends, star-studded runways, and electrifying energy that sets the tone for the global fashion scene. Whether you’re a seasoned industry insider, a budding influencer, or simply a sartorial enthusiast with wanderlust in your soul, Milan Fashion Week beckons you to its glamorous embrace .

Milan Fashion Week

Milan isn’t just about pasta and Prada (though both are undeniably fabulous). It’s the birthplace of iconic fashion houses like Versace , Dolce & Gabbana, and Armani, a city where cutting-edge design and timeless elegance seamlessly intertwine.

Here, fashion isn’t just a seasonal trend; it’s a way of life, pulsating through cobbled streets and opulent ballrooms alike.

Milan Fashion Week

Roadmap to Fashion Month Bliss:

  • Plan your pilgrimage: Milan Fashion Week takes place every February and September. Mark your calendars for February 20-26, 2024, and start plotting your sartorial strategy.
  • Secure your runway pass: Tickets to the big shows can be elusive, but fret not! Public presentations, off-site exhibits, and street-style sightings offer ample opportunities to soak up the vibrant atmosphere. Check the official Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana website for updates and event schedules.
  • Pack like a pro: Think layers, statement outerwear , and comfortable yet chic shoes (cobblestones and runway hopping, anyone?). Don’t forget your phone with a trusty battery pack — you’ll be capturing enough FOMO-inducing content to fill your Instagram feed for months.

La Compagnie: Your Chic Chariot to Fashion Week:

Forget the cramped cattle cars and pre-dawn baggage battles. La Compagnie elevates the journey to Milan into an experience as glamorous as the shows themselves, making it our number one recommendation when it comes to planning your fashion week travels.

fashion travel week

  • A 100% Business Class Oasis: Ditch the economy blues and bask in the comfort of 76 plush, fully reclining seats, each a cocoon of space and luxury. Forget fighting for armrests; here, you’ll have ample room to sprawl out, draft your next Instagram post, or simply savor the pre-show anticipation in pure comfort.
  • French Gastronomy at 35,000 Feet: Forget soggy airplane peanuts and lukewarm coffee. La Compagnie pampers your palate with exquisite Michelin-starred cuisine, crafted by French and Italian culinary masters. Think seasonal menus curated by acclaimed chefs, paired with a selection of fine Italian wines that would make even Anna Wintour swoon. Each bite is a mini vacation for your taste buds, ensuring you arrive in Milan ready to conquer, not famished.
  • Wi-Fi Worthy of Front Row: No more struggling for a decent internet connection! La Compagnie boasts lightning-fast, complimentary Wi-Fi, letting you stay connected, share your envy-inducing photos, and live-stream the latest runway magic directly from your cloud-kissed seat. Work deadlines? No problem. FOMO? Not here, darling.
  • Effortless Convenience, Chic Arrival: La Compagnie understands that getting to the heart of the action shouldn’t feel like a runway hurdle. Their direct flights from Newark to Milan Malpensa eliminate layovers and connection woes, whisking you away in just over 8 hours. Plus, pre-flight lounge access and priority boarding ensure a smooth and stylish start to your Italian adventure.

fashion travel week

Price Tag Perfection:

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room (or should we say, the fashionably dressed elephant strolling down Via Montenapoleone?). Luxury air travel often comes with a hefty price tag, but La Compagnie breaks the mold.

fashion travel week

From $2,400 round trip, you can experience first-class comfort and service without breaking the bank. Consider it an investment in your Milan Fashion Week experience, leaving you with more budget for those must-have designer finds (or that extra round of Negronis at Terrazza Duomo, no judgment).

La Compagnie’s commitment to luxury extends beyond the aircraft. From the moment you step aboard to your chic arrival in Milan, La Compagnie ensures you experience the magic of Milan Fashion Week in style, comfort, and grace. Consider it your personal runway pass to La Dolce Vita.

Important things to know when planning a trip to Moscow

The best time to plan a trip to Moscow is April-May and September-October . During these months temperatures are (generally) quite comfortable, though even in April there can be a bit of snow! The summer months are hot, both in regard to temperature as well as activities in the city. While it's a nice time to visit, it's also the busiest time of the year to visit Moscow. Hotel prices reflect this as well and summer definitely isn't a great time for budget travelers to visit Moscow. Winter in Moscow is cold, and I mean seriously cold (-15°C isn't rare). However, if you can withstand the subzero temperatures and freezing winds, it can be a magical time to visit. A snow-covered St. Basil’s Cathedral is a sight you will never forget. Keep in mind that days are short in winter and be sure to bring plenty of warm winter clothes!

The official currency in Russia is the Russian Ruble (₽ or RUB). Here you can find the current exchange rates, at the time of writing €1 is approximately 70RUB and $1 is around 62RUB.

Yes, you probably do. Getting a visa for Russia requires a bit of time and effort. You need to fill out several forms and provide a detailed travel itinerary and information about your accommodation. Also, you will need a Visa Support Letter which can be provided by your travel agency or your hotel. Depending on your nationality, there may be additional requirements, please refer to the information provided on the website of your country's Embassy in Russia.

While most of the things to see in Moscow listed in this post are within walking distance of each other, sometimes you will have to travel a bit further afield. The best way to get around in Moscow is by metro. It's cheap and efficient and a sightseeing activity in itself, because Moscow has the most beautiful metro stations in the world ! Among the most exquisitely decorated stations are Komsomolskaya, Novoslobodskaya, Mayakovskaya, Taganskaya, and Prospect Mira Station, but there are many more worthwhile stations to be found in the Moscow underground. You can purchase a single ticket from one of the ticket machines or get a rechargeable Troika Card when you plan on taking the metro several times. Read more details on how to use the Moscow metro here . If you prefer to get around by taxi, that's possible too. We used the Gett app to order a taxi (similar to Uber) to avoid confusion about our intended destination and having to negotiate in Russian. A convenient extra for families is the Gett Kids option, these cars are outfitted with a car seat.

Moscow itinerary day 1

The Red Square Moscow Russia

There is no better place to start your first day in Moscow, than at the world-famous Red Square.

This square is considered the central square of Moscow, not just because all the major streets start here, but also because no matter where you look when standing on this square, there are historic buildings all around.

Starting with the impressive GUM store and going clockwise, there is the colorful Saint Basil's Cathedral, the Kremlin, Lenin's Mausoleum, the State Historical Museum, and the Kazan Cathedral.

However, before entering any of these Moscow must-see attractions, allow yourself a moment to take in the view and let it sink in that you're standing on historical grounds (and a UNESCO site).

The Red Square was the official address of the Soviet government and played an important part in history. Many military parades have been held (and are still being held) here. It's the place where protests have taken place, as well as high-profile concerts from famous international artists.

All in all, it's one of the places in Moscow you can't miss during your Moscow city trip!

Red Square with GUM department store in Moscow

Yulia from That's What She Had: it might seem like visiting a department store is not something you’d do on the first visit to Russia’s capital.

But GUM is not like any other department store and is well worth your time, if only for its unique architecture.

First of all, it’s located right on Red Square which makes it an easy stop on your Moscow trip itinerary. Second, GUM is not a simple mall, but an institution built in the late XIX century.

The abbreviation stands for  Glavniy Universalniy Magazin or Main Universal Store. Its impressive facade extends for over 240 meters along the eastern side of Red Square.

Inside you’ll find a beautiful glass ceiling supported by a metal framework, not unlike the ones found in the old train stations of Great Britain.

fashion travel week

While shopping in GUM will cost you an arm and a leg, there’s one reason why tourists and locals come here anyways:  traditional Russian food  at Stolovaya #57. Stolovaya is Russian for canteen and this is where you can get your  pelmeni , borsch , and  pirozhki  fix!

Afterward, don’t forget to get the famous  plombir  ice cream in one of the kiosks on the ground floor.

Saint Basil's Cathedral Moscow

Saint Basil's Cathedral with its colorful domes is easily recognizable and one of the most popular Moscow tourist attractions. The building, built on orders from Ivan the Terrible, was completed in 1561 to commemorate the victory over Kazan and Astrakhan.

Until the construction of Ivan the Great Bell Tower (which can be found within the walls of the Kremlin), it was the tallest building in Moscow.

The design of St. Basil's Cathedral is truly unique; it's shaped like the flame of a bonfire and not one building in a similar style can be found in the whole of Russia.

A legend tells the story of how Ivan the Terrible had the architects of the Cathedral blinded so they could never build anything comparable.

This is a myth, however, but the fact remains that Saint Basil's Cathedral is one of a kind and it's not surprising it has become the symbol of Russia.

Lenin Mausoleum Moscow Russia

Wendy from The Nomadic Vegan: Lenin Mausoleum is hard to miss. It's a stepped-pyramid construction that sits right at the base of the Kremlin walls on the western side of Red Square.

Entrance is free but note that opening hours are quite limited, with visiting hours lasting only from 10 am to 1 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

If seeing Lenin's embalmed body is important to you, be sure to take this into account when planning your itinerary in Moscow.

One of my  top tips for travelers to Russia  is to arrive early, well before the mausoleum opens, as the queue is usually quite long. However, usually, the queue does move pretty quickly.

This is especially true now that they have lifted the ban on bags and cameras.

It used to be that all cameras, smartphones, and bags of any size had to be checked at a left-luggage office nearby. But now you can bring a small handbag or backpack as well as your camera and phone.

Photography inside the mausoleum is still strictly forbidden, but you are allowed to take photos of the graves of various other important Russian figures that line the path leading to the mausoleum.

Once you finally enter the mausoleum, the atmosphere is surprisingly peaceful and uncrowded. It doesn't feel nearly as rushed as when visiting Mao Ze Dong's tomb in Beijing or Ho Chi Minh's body in Hanoi , for example.

The illumination of the body is very well done and would make for superb photography if it wasn't forbidden. As an added bonus, just after you exit, you'll see the grave of Joseph Stalin outside.

State Historical Museum Moscow

Rai from A Rai Of Light: the imposing crimson building at the northern end of the Red Square is the State Historical Museum.

By decree of Alexander III, the museum was built with the support of Russian historians, philosophers, and artists. The red brick building, dating from 1875, was designed in the Russian revival style by Vladimir Shervud.

The National Museum of Russia houses a collection of over four million items, devoted to the history of the country's ancient and imperial period.

The exhibitions include many items previously owned by members of the Romanov dynasty, such as documents, artwork, personal items, furnishings, and decorations from the palace interiors.

Another exhibit features relics of the prehistoric tribes that once inhabited this region.

Notable items include ancient manuscripts, birch-bark scrolls, a longboat excavated from the banks of the Volga River, and the largest coin collection in Russia, sourced from the museums in St Petersburg .

The State Historical Museum is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. The entrance fee is 700₽ per adult.

Moscow itinerary day 2

Cathedral Square inside the Kremlin

When listing the best Moscow things to do, one cannot miss the Kremlin! The Kremlin houses the current seat of power in Russia and has done so for several decades.

Within its walls, the offices of the Russian Government can be found. During Soviet rule, the Kremlin was where all the important decisions were made but its history goes back for many centuries.

The first mention of the Kremlin in history books was in 1147, however, the current citadel dates from the 16th century.

The Kremlin is one of the major fortifications found in Europe, with walls that are up to 6.5 meters thick and 19 meters high in particular sections.

Inside the complex, there are many government buildings, however, these aren't accessible to the public.

Around Cathedral Square you'll find (as the name suggests) many churches and cathedrals, such as the Cathedral of the Archangel, Annunciation Cathedral, the Church of Laying Our Lady's Holy Robe, and Ivan the Great Bell-Tower.

While Cathedral Square is definitely worth visiting, the highlight of the Kremlin is a visit to the Armoury.

Inside you can find an impressive collection of Faberge eggs, beautiful dresses worn by Catherine the Great, intricately decorated thrones used by the Tsars, and much more. Unfortunately, photography is forbidden inside the Armoury.

Practical information about visiting the Kremlin

In order to visit both Cathedral Square and the Armoury, you will have to buy two separate tickets. A ticket to Cathedral Square costs 700₽ and a ticket to the Armoury is 1000₽. Prices mentioned are for adults, children below 16 years old are free.

Tickets can be bought at the ticket office onsite on the same day, however, there's no guarantee tickets will be available, especially during peak season.

Conveniently, tickets can be bought online as well, which is highly advisable if you want to make sure you'll be able to visit the Kremlin during your city trip to Moscow.

How much time to spend at the Kremlin

Be sure to allow plenty of time to explore the Kremlin, at least half a day but it's easy to spend more time as there is so much to see.

Please note there isn't any food sold inside the Kremlin, so bring a snack and enough water (especially in summer when it can get pretty hot).

Luggage storage

Backpacks aren't allowed inside the Kremlin, they can be stored (for free) in the cloakroom, but you can bring your camera and a small purse.

We could also take our Babyzen Yoyo stroller inside, which was very convenient as our 10-month-old son could take a nap while we explored the sights.

Cathedral of Christ the Saviour Moscow

After the original Cathedral of Christ the Saviour was demolished by Stalin in 1931, a new version was completed in 2000.

The imposing building is the tallest Orthodox Christian church in the world (103 meters high), and is beautiful on the outside as well as on the inside.

Visiting the Cathedral is free of charge and it's open any day of the week from 10 am to 5 pm (except on Mondays when the opening hours are 1 to 5 pm).

When visiting the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour it's important to dress appropriately. For men, this means no shorts or tank tops.

Women can't enter with mini skirts or shorts, strap tops, or anything too revealing. Also, women are advised to cover their heads with a scarf as a sign of respect.

Inside the Cathedral photography isn't allowed, but believe me when I say there is plenty to see. There are beautiful frescoes, colorful icons, impressive statues, and other vivid decorations.

For a beautiful view over Moscow, walk up the stairs to the 40-meter high observation deck (entrance fee 400₽).

Visit Gorky Park

Gorky Park ice skating Moscow Russia

Helen from Holidays from Hels : Gorky Park, named after the Soviet writer Maxim Gorky, has recently undergone extensive regeneration to become Moscow's central leisure hub for young Muscovites.

Every day of the week you can find many Moscow residents strolling along the banks of the river in the summer, hiring bikes, picnicking on the grass, or dining at one of the many restaurants.

Open-air cinemas, petanque, and ping pong are all on offer. Not to be missed is the iconic white stone entranceway and museum, complete with columns carved with Soviet hammers and sickles.

In winter, look out for the ducks waddling across the frozen Moskva River, and watch boats attempting to navigate through the cracked ice. However, the real winter highlight is to try ice skating on one of the biggest rinks in Europe!

Ice skating in Gorky Park

The park’s maze of pedestrian pathways is transformed into one huge skating rink, which can play host to up to four thousand skaters.

Not surprisingly, Russians are talented ice skaters and there is a good chance you will find yourself next to a pirouetting ballerina.

Handily, you will find you will already be wearing most of what you need – gloves, hat, scarf, and thick socks and you can hire skates on-site. Lockers are included in the price if you don’t fancy skating with your day pack.

Disco tunes fill the air, and the whole arena is backlit in spectacular neon lights. Rest your weary legs and warm up at one of the cafes dotted along the frozen pathways, with the added bonus of not having to take off your skates.

Opening times

The rink is open from 10 am until 11 pm on weekdays and until midnight at weekends but closes between 3 and 5 pm. Like most attractions in Moscow, the rink is closed on Mondays.

The prices range from 350-650₽ and go up in the evening, which is the best time for the light show. Arriving at 5 pm, just as the rink opens for the evening session will give you time to find your ice legs before it fills up with more confident skaters.

Whilst waiting for the rink to open, try out the nearby tubing track where you can shoot down a snowy hill on an inflatable ring repeatedly for a very enjoyable half an hour!

How to get to Gorky Park by metro

The nearest metro is Park Kultury Station, on the other side of the river. As always, check out in advance what this looks like in the Russian Alphabet so you know when to get off!

Bolshoi Theatre

Bolshoi Theater Moscow

James Ian at Travel Collecting : one of the best places to go in Moscow is the famous Bolshoi Theater, located only a short walk from Red square. Bolshoy means big in Russian, and the theatre is not only big but also beautiful.

There are two ways to see the theater: on a guided tour or by watching a performance .

Take a guided tour

  • English tours are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11:30 am. Tickets for these tours can be bought (on the same day) at the ticket office located in the Historic building of the theatre (door #12).
  • A ticket costs 2000₽ per person, tours last one hour, and the number of people on a tour is limited to a maximum of 20. The tour takes you inside the theater and to the historic main stage.

Watch a performance

My favorite way to see the theater, though, is to enjoy a performance and experience the theater as a patron.

The entrance is a little underwhelming when you first arrive, the street lobby is small and quite plain and you will be immediately directed up to your floor.

There are helpful attendants on each floor to guide you to the correct door. Arrive a little early and head up to the Grand Salon on the top floor where you can enjoy a glass of champagne while people-watching (Russians dress up for the theater).

Then head to your seat and take in the stunning theater before enjoying the famous Bolshoi Ballet or another performance.

Be sure to book a show at the historic stage, there is a modern stage as well but that isn't nearly as much fun.

Moscow itinerary day 3

Izmailovsky Market Moscow

Karen from WanderlustingK : one of the most interesting Moscow places to visit is the Izmailovsky Market .

This flea market and tourist attraction a bit outside of the tourist center is a recreation of a Tzar’s Palace, known as a Kremlin, produced in a colorful 16th-century style.

The market is filled with tiny stalls that sell everything from snacks to kitsch to authentic items from Soviet times such as hats, pins, and other pieces of memorabilia.

You'll also find authentic antiques such as vases, paintings, and other religious items if you're looking to splurge within the interior parts of the market.

Negotiating in English is not always possible as many vendors only speak Russian, so be sure to practice your Russian numbers and see how well you can do with haggling.

It's important to carry cash when you visit given that many vendors do not accept cards. We ended up purchasing a series of hats at the market, along with a beautiful hot tea glass with a metal holder with a typical Russian scene.

Elsewhere in the market, you’ll also find a few tourist shops that sell typical Russian products. It takes a few hours to see the market in full, so arrive early as the best items go quickly!

Hallway in Bunker 42 Moscow

Lindsey from Have Clothes, Will Travel : Bunker-42 was once a top-secret, Soviet military complex. Stalin commissioned its construction after the United States succeeded in creating a nuclear bomb.

An impressive 65 meters (or about 213 feet) underground, was the desired depth to protect Russia’s top officials from a nuclear attack.

Bunker 42 became operational in 1954. Fortunately, it was never needed for its true purpose, and instead it was used as the command center of strategic bombers for nearly 30 years.

Nowadays it's a museum dedicated to the Cold War and visiting is a truly unique experience!

You will need to join a tour in order to see the museum. You can call ahead to book your tour (the number is: +7 499 703-44-55), there are several English tours throughout the day that are held at 13:30, 16:30, and 18:30 (the price is 2200₽).

On Mondays, there is an extra tour at 17:30, which lasts an additional 30 minutes and costs 2800₽ per person. There is also the option to book a private tour. However, I am unsure of the price for this.

You will have to wait until exactly 15 minutes before your tour begins before you'll be admitted inside. After paying for your tickets and a quick restroom stop you will descend 65 meters underground…

Another option for visiting Bunker-42, if you would rather not do the tour, is to visit the restaurant inside Bunker-42. Actually, I highly recommend visiting the restaurant before or after a tour as well!

While the food is not that great, it’s worth visiting for a drink. The restaurant is also located within the bunker and is decorated in the old Soviet style.

From time to time there will be live performances and visiting Bunker 42 is definitely an experience worth having while in Moscow! After all, how many people can say they've had a drink in a top-secret Soviet military bunker?

If you’re visiting Moscow during peak season (June-July-August), it would be worth making a reservation, to avoid having to wait. Otherwise, I would not say you need to worry about a reservation at the restaurant.

Bunker-42 is a short cab ride away from Red Square (10-15 minutes). But I recommend taking the metro to get there. The closest station is Taganskaya, which is a beautiful metro station very much worth visiting.

Pedestrian boardwalk in Park Zaryad'ye (also called Zaryadye Park)

Park Zaryad'ye or Zaryadye Park is a lovely place for a stroll and a nice place to relax after a day of sightseeing in Moscow, especially when exploring Moscow with kids.

There are many things to see and do in this park, but I recommend starting your visit at The River Overlook , a 70-meter-long boardwalk with beautiful views over the river and the Kremlin.

Other interesting places to visit in Zaryadye Park are the Ice Cave, The Museum of Nature, and The Glass Crust. But most importantly, do as the Muscovites do and find yourself a nice place in the park to sit down and relax.

Enjoy the view, do some people-watching, and take a moment to think back about all the Moscow top sights you've seen in the past couple of days.

View from Zaryadye Park Moscow

8 Things That Delighted Us Last Week: From Diaper Cream for Your Face to Ceramic Sconces

fashion travel week

We write about hundreds of products every week. Here, in our version of the Sunday circular, we’ve plucked some of our recent favorites: expert-recommended essentials, life-changing stuff you didn’t know you needed, newly launched gizmos, and very good deals we uncovered while trawling the vast online-shopping universe — including the perfect work tote one writer found by asking New Yorkers about theirs on the subway and an East Fork pottery-inspired light fixture.

The probiotic drink one chef relies on to beat hangovers

ZBiotics Pre-Alcohol Probiotic Drink

The next time you have one too many dirty martinis, take note from Fieldtrip founder and chef JJ Johnson . He turned us on to this pre-alcohol probiotic drink that he’s been using for the last four months to curb hangovers . “Everybody laughs at me, but when I give it to them, they’re like, ‘Oh wow,’” Johnson says. “I just left the Food and Wine Festival in South Beach. I took one every day I was there and I wasn’t hungover.”

Diaper cream to make your face as smooth as a baby’s …

Sudocrem Antiseptic Cream

In last week’s installment of The Strategist Beauty Brief , our writer Rachael Griffiths investigated a skin-care trend that’s gaining popularity on TikTok : applying butt paste to your face. Referred to as “face basting,” it involves slathering on a layer of a cream with a high percentage of zinc oxide before bed. Griffiths turned to Sudocrem , which has a 15.25 percent concentration of zinc oxide, to soothe her dry and acne-prone skin. “I wasn’t expecting much to happen on the first night, but I was honestly dazzled by the results,” she says, adding that her skin feels “as smooth as you-know-what.”

… And the foot cream that made one writer stop getting pedicures

O'Keeffe's Healthy Feet Foot Cream, 3.2oz Jar

Instead of spending time and money on pedicures to smooth her “scratchy and ragged” feet, Strategist contributor Diksha Basu decided to try this cream from O’Keeffe’s . Though she was disappointed with her results after the first use, Basu persevered — and was very pleased with the outcome. “I have not had a pedicure since I started using this six months ago,” says Basu. “My feet are softer than ever.”

The perfect work tote one writer found by stopping strangers on the subway …

Cuyana Classic Easy Zipper Tote

After six years of looking for her perfect work tote bag , Strategist contributor Mya Gelber decided to look for inspiration in the wild. She took to the subway, spotted over 100 tote bags, and talked to about 20 tote owners until finally landing on the Cuyana , her ideal sturdy-yet-lightweight work bag.

… And a new spin on our beloved Madewell Transport Tote (that’s also on sale)

Madewell Handwoven Leather Tote

Speaking of totes, our old faithful Madewell Transport Tote is now available in a lovely woven style — which happens to be 25 percent off, as part of the retailer’s bi-annual Insider Event . You can also get a rarely on sale leather jacket, the drapey wide-legs favored by Victoria Justice , and Mary Jane ballet flats all as part of the sitewide promotion. (Just note: You can only access the sale if you’re signed up for the brand’s loyalty program .)

The facial mist that soothes Leslie Bibb’s ultrasensitive skin …

Epicuren Soothe Dermal Repair Mist

When we asked actress Leslie Bibb about her favorite things, she told us about this soothing face mist , which was introduced to her by a facialist she describes as “like Russell Crowe in A Beautiful Mind but with skin.” Now if Bibb gets a sunburn, facial, or chemical peel, she simply applies her Epicuren products, which “heals everything.”

… And our new best overall anti-aging serum

Medik8 Crystal Retinal

If you’ve been wanting to add an anti-aging serum to your regimen, try Medik8, which we recently named our new best overall serum in the category. Its hero ingredient is retinaldehyde, a wrinkle- and fine-line-fighter that works faster than other commonly used retinols , according to board-certified dermatologist Dr. Marisa Garshick .

A sconce inspired by dinner plates

Schoolhouse x East Fork Sconce

Our latest installment of “ Don’t Dillydally ” brings an unexpected and especially delightful collaboration between two brands we love: Schoolhouse and East Fork. The collection includes three light-fixture styles (a flush mount , a pendant , and the sconce shown), all of which are constructed with the same ceramic glazes as East Fork’s handcrafted dinnerware.

The Strategist is designed to surface the most useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Some of our latest conquests include the best acne treatments , rolling luggage , pillows for side sleepers , natural anxiety remedies , and bath towels . We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.

19 Unique And Fabulous Experiences In Moscow

fashion travel week

  • Destinations

Thinking of visiting Russia? When visiting such a famous city, one must, of course, visit the iconic landmarks first. Moscow has plenty of those, most of them in the center of the city, which is very well-planned for tourists. Once you’ve seen the sights that are on most travelers’ lists, it’s time to branch out and visit some of the lesser-known sites, and there are some fascinating places to see and things to do.

I know this list is long, but I just couldn’t help myself. You probably won’t have the time to see them all. But that’s okay. Just scroll through the list and choose what sounds the most interesting to you. Where possible, make sure to book in advance, as things can get crowded, especially during high season.

Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Russia

1. The Red Square, Kremlin, And Surroundings

Red Square (Krasnya Ploshad) is the heart and soul of Russia, and where much of the country’s history has unfolded. This is the most famous landmark in Moscow and indeed the whole country, it’s an absolute must-do! The square is always full of people and has a rather festive atmosphere!

Saint Basil’s Cathedral

This is the famous church with the rainbow-colored, onion-domed roof. The cathedral was commissioned in the 1500s by Ivan the Terrible and according to legend, the Tsar thought it was so beautiful, that he ordered that the architect’s eyes be cut out afterward, so he could never build anything more beautiful! He wasn’t called Ivan the Terrible for no reason!

Lenin’s Mausoleum

The “love-it-or-hate-it” of tourist attractions in Russia. A glass sarcophagus containing the embalmed body of Russian revolutionary, Vladimir Lenin. It may seem a bit bizarre to display the mummy of a person, but it has been there for almost half a century and the 2.5 million visitors who come each year, clearly feel the queuing and thorough body search are worth it, to be in Lenin’s presence.

Pro Tip: no photos and no loud talking are allowed inside the Mausoleum.

Eternal Flame

There is an Eternal Flame in honor of an unknown soldier on the left side of Red Square. The hourly changing of the guards is worth seeing.

The Kremlin is the official residence of the Russian president. You can see it from the outside, or you can take an excursion to one of the museums located inside. This is the biggest active fortress in Europe, and holds a week’s worth of attractions! Once behind the 7,332-feet of walls, there are five squares, four cathedrals, 20 towers, various museums, and the world’s largest bell and cannon to see. Worth a special mention is the Armory Chamber that houses a collection of the famous Faberge Eggs.

Pro Tip: You can only go inside the Kremlin if you are part of a tourist group.

Interior of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscos

2. Bolshoi Theatre

Bolshoi Theatre translates to “The Big Theatre” in Russian, and the building is home to both the Bolshoi Ballet and Bolshoi Opera — among the oldest and most famous ballet and opera companies in the world.

Pro Tip: It’s hard to get an inexpensive ticket, so if you’re reading well in advance of going to Moscow then try buying tickets on the official website . Last-minute tickets cost around $250 per person. If this is out of your budget, about an hour before a performance, you can try buying a ticket at the entrance from a reseller. Most can speak enough English to negotiate the price.

Tour the Bolshoi Theatre: You can take a group guided tour of the Bolshoi Theatre which focuses on the history and architecture of the theatre and behind the scenes. There’s an English language tour that lasts 2 hours and costs around $300 for a group of up to six.

GUM, a popular department store in Moscow

3. Luxury Shopping At GUM And TSUM

Russia’s main department store, GUM, has a stunning interior that is home to over 100 high-end boutiques, selling a variety of brands: from luxurious Dior to the more affordable Zara. Even if shopping is not on your Moscow to-do list GUM is still worth a visit; the glass-roofed arcade faces Red Square and offers a variety of classy eateries. TSUM, one of the biggest luxury malls in town, is right behind the Bolshoi and GUM. It’s an imposing building with lots of history, and worth a visit just for its design and its glass roof.

Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow

4. Christ The Savior Cathedral

This is one of Russia’s most visited cathedrals and is a newer addition to the gorgeous array of Muscovite cathedrals, but don’t let its young age fool you. After perestroika, in the early 90s, the revived Russian Orthodox Church was given permission to build a cathedral on this site. It did the location honors and built the largest temple of the Christian Orthodox Church. The façade is as grand as you’d expect, but it’s the inside that will mesmerize you, with its domes, gold, gorgeous paintings, and decor!

The cathedral is located just a few hundred feet away from the Kremlin and was the site of the infamous Pussy Riot protest against Putin back in 2012.

Pro Tip: Bring a shawl to cover your hair as is the local custom.

Gates at Gorky Park in Moscow

5. Gorky Park

Moscow’s premier green space, Gorky Park (Park Gor’kogo) is the city’s biggest and most famous park. There is entertainment on offer here for every taste, from outdoor dancing sessions to yoga classes, volleyball, ping-pong, rollerblading, and bike and boat rental in summer. In winter, half the park turns into a huge ice skating rink. Gorky Park is also home to an open-air movie theater and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. There is also Muzeon Art Park, a dynamic contemporary space with a unique collection of 700 sculptures. It is located right in front of Gorky Park.

6. Sparrow Hills Park

If you take a walk from Gorky Park, along the Moscow River embankment, you’ll end up in the city’s other legendary park, Sparrow Hills. Although the park doesn’t offer as many activities as its hip neighbor, it has a great panoramic view of the city

Pro Tip: You can take a free walking tour to all of the above attractions with an English-speaking guide.

River cruise in Moscow

7. River Cruising

One of the best ways to experience Moscow, and see all the famous landmarks, but from a different angle, is from the Moscow River. Take a river cruise. Avoid the tourist crowds. There are little nameless old boats that do the cruise, but if you are looking for a more luxurious experience take the Radisson Blu cruise and enjoy the sights with some good food and a glass of wine.

Moscow Metro station

8. Metro Hopping

Inaugurated in the 1930s, the Moscow Metro system is one of the oldest and most beautiful in the world. Started in Stalinist times, each station is a work of art in its own right. I’d recommend touring the stations between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. This way, you’ll be able to properly see it without the crowds. Ideally, I’d recommend taking a tour with a knowledgeable guide with GuruWalk, who will tell you stories of forgotten stations and how the history of the country is interconnected with the metro development. If going by yourself, then I definitely recommend checking out: Mayakovskaya, Ploschad Revolutsii, Kievskaya, Kropotkinskaya, Kurskaya, and Novoslobodskaya stations.

Visit the free Moscow Metro Museum: For real train enthusiasts, located in the southern vestibule of Sportivnaya station is a small free museum. Here you can take a peek into the driver’s cabin, see a collection of metro tokens from different cities, and see different models of a turnstile, traffic lights, escalator, and more.

Moscow State University at dusk

9. Moscow State University View

In his effort to create a grander Moscow, Stalin had seven skyscrapers built in different parts of town; they’re called the Seven Sisters. The largest of these buildings and the one with the best view is the main building of the Moscow State University. Although this is a little outside the city center, the view is more than worth it.

Izmailovsky Market in Moscow, Russia

10. Izmailovsky Market

Mostly known for the city’s largest flea market, the district of Izmaylovo is home to a maze of shops where you can get just about anything, from artisan crafts to traditional fur hats, handcrafted jewelry, fascinating Soviet memorabilia, and antiquities. It’s also one of Moscow’s largest green spaces. There are often no price tags, so be prepared to haggle a bit. Head to one of the market cafes for a warming mulled wine before continuing your shopping spree.

The History of Vodka Museum is found here, and the museum’s restaurant is the perfect place to sample various brands of the national drink.

Once you’ve covered the more touristy spots, Moscow still has plenty to offer, and the places below will also be full of locals! So for some local vibes, I would strongly recommend the spots below!

The skyscrapers of Moscow City

11. Moscow City

With a completely different vibe, Moscow City (also referred to as Moscow International Business Center) is like a mini Dubai, with lots of impressive tall glass buildings. Here is where you’ll find the best rooftops in towns, like Ruski Restaurant, the highest restaurant both in Moscow City and in Europe. Moscow City is great for crowd-free shopping and the best panoramic views of the city.

Art in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow

12. Tretyakov Gallery

Tretyakov Gallery started as the private collection of the Tretyakov brothers, who were 19th-century philanthropists. They gave their private collection to the government after their deaths. If there is just one museum you visit in Moscow, I recommend this one!

Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve, former residence of Catherine the Great

13. Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve

Tsaritsyno was a residence of Catherine the Great more than two centuries ago. It became derelict during the Soviet era but has now been fully renovated. With its opulently decorated buildings, gardens, meadows, and forests, Tsaritsyno Park is the perfect place for a green respite in Moscow.

Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve in Moscow

14. Kolomenskoye

A 10-minute metro ride from the city center is Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve, where you can get an idea of what Russia looked like 200 years ago. You’ll find ancient churches (one dating back to the 16th century), the oldest garden in Moscow, and the wonderful fairytale wooden palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich, father of Peter the Great.

Ostankino TV Tower in Moscow at night

15. Ostankino TV Tower

Built in 1967, Ostankino TV Tower was the tallest free-standing construction in the world at the time, it’s still the 8th tallest building in the world and the highest in Europe. It’s also the best observation deck, with a glass floor and 360-degree views. The speedy elevators take you 1,105 feet in next to no time.

Pro Tip: You need to book in advance; entrance is based on specific ticket times and the capacity is limited and only a certain number of tourists are allowed per day. Don’t forget your passport, you’ll need it to get through security.

The floating bridge of Zaryadye Park in Moscow

16. Zaryadye Park

Zaryadye is a newly opened, landscaped urban park so new you won’t find it in a lot of tour guides. The park is near Red Square and is divided into four climatic zones: forest, steppe, tundra, and floodplains, depicting the variety of climatic zones in Russia.

These last three suggestions are a little quirky, but all are really worth checking out.

17. Museum Of Soviet Arcade Games

Release your inner child playing on 66 arcade machines from the Soviet era! What a great way to spend a couple of hours when tired of visiting museums and palaces. The staff speaks excellent English and are happy to explain how the games work.

The rooftops of Moscow, Russia

18. Moscow Rooftop Tour

Take a 1-hour private Moscow rooftop tour with an experienced roofer. I can just about guarantee none of your friends will be able to say they’ve done it! For your comfort, I recommend wearing comfortable shoes. Take your camera, there are some amazing photo opportunities out there!

A pool at Sanduny Banya in Moscow

19. Sanduny Banya

This classical Russian bathhouse opened its doors in 1808 and is famous for combining traditional Russian banya services with luxurious interiors and service. If you enjoy spas and saunas, then you should experience a Russian bathhouse at least once in your life! Go with an open mind and hire a specialist to steam you as it’s meant to be done — by being beaten repeatedly with a besom (a leafy branch)! This is said to improve circulation, but is best done by a professional!

So there you have my list of things to do in Moscow. I could have gone on and on and on, but I didn’t want to try your patience! There are so many things to do in this vibrant city that you’ll definitely need to allocate several days for exploring.

What Is Going on With the British Royal Family This Week?

It's been a bad few days for the House of Windsor.

the prince of wales marks st david's day in wrexham

While the British royals are no strangers to a life in the spotlight, this week, the intense media focus was perhaps unexpected as speculation about Kate Middleton's health and recovery reached a fever pitch online.

Here's what happened with the House of Windsor this week:

Speculation Over Kate Middleton's Health

the british royal family attend the christmas morning service

This chain of events seemingly created the perfect storm for speculation about Kate's health and whereabouts to explode online . On Thursday, in response to the rumors and conspiracy theories, a spokesperson for Kate told T&C , "Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the Princess' recovery and we'd only be providing significant updates. That guidance stands." In an earlier statement, the Palace said they would be keeping Kate's diagnosis private , explaining, "She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private."

The spokesperson reiterated that Kate is "doing well," but again, shared no details. That did not do much to quiet speculation—and William, in engagements in London on Thursday and in Wrexham on Friday , kept to his policy of not commenting on Kate's health.

A Shocking Death in the Family

thanksgiving service for king constantine of the hellenes

Hours after the service for Constantine ended, Buckingham Palace shared news that Thomas Kingston , the son-in-law of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent , had passed away in a shocking death at age 45. The husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor, Kingston was found deceased in Gloucestershire on Sunday evening. The inquest into his tragic death began yesterday, though there are no suspicious circumstances.

In a statement on behalf of Lady Gabriella Kingston, Thomas's parents Martin and Jill Kingston, and his sisters Joanna Connolly and Emma Murray, Buckingham Palace shared, "It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston , our beloved husband, son and brother. Tom was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him. His death has come as a great shock to the whole family and we ask you to respect our privacy as we mourn his passing."

Prince Andrew's Prominence

thanksgiving service for king constantine of the hellenes

On Tuesday, Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, walked in front of the group Windsors as they headed into St George's Chapel for Constantine's memorial. Prince Andrew was also pictured sitting in the front row of the chapel. The prominence and visibility was notable for Andrew, as he stepped down from royal duties in November 2019 , and has only made a select few public appearances with the royal family in the years since—including his brother's coronation . Just as recently as January 2024, the Duke of York was named in court papers relating to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein .

Queen Camilla and Prince William continue royal duties

queen camilla hosts reception for the bbc's 500 words finalists

As King Charles continues to receive treatment for his cancer diagnosis , he remains out of the public eye, but Queen Camilla has continued her normal schedule of royal engagements. This week, the Queen met with Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska and hosted a reception for the BBC's 500 Words Finalists at Buckingham Palace. After Charles's cancer diagnosis was announced, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said "Her Majesty will continue with a full programme of public duties."

So, too, have other royals continued carrying out engagements, including Prince William (though he has scaled back to support Kate in her recovery), Princess Anne, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester , and Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. (The Edinburghs were notably absent this week, as they were vacationing in Switzerland on a ski vacation.) The two other senior royals— the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra —have stepped back from public life due to their age, though the elderly siblings (and first cousins of Queen Elizabeth) were both in attendance at Constantine's memorial service.

Asian Celebrities Were Fashion Week’s Biggest Influencers

K-pop and soccer stars, actresses and singers — the fashion week A-list increasingly hails from South Korea, Thailand and the Philippines.

Elizabeth Paton

By Elizabeth Paton

Reporting from Paris

This season, when throngs of fans screamed from the crash barriers outside a Paris fashion show or jostling photographers and gawkers wielding cellphones triggered a commotion at a front row, the center of attention was rarely a Hollywood actress or British rock star. Instead, the most frenzied scenes — and online clicks — were ignited by Asian celebrities, whose dominance on the fashion week celebrity circuit hit new heights.

At Dior, Natalie Portman and Jennifer Lawrence, both ambassadors for the brand, watched as crowds went berserk for the pop idols Jisoo from Blackpink and Mingyu of Seventeen, both of South Korea; the Filipino actor and model Pia Wurtzbach ; and the Chinese singer Xin Liu , whose fan army, clad in ice blue and clutching signs, later followed her all over the city.

Jisoo, wearing a belted black jacket, a white shirt and black polka-dot tie, and carrying a Dior purse, is seen accompanied by publicity aides or staff. One holds her hand; another guides her through the crowd.

The Chinese actress Yang Mi snagged a prime position between Michael Burke, the chief executive of the LVMH fashion group, and Pascale Lepoivre, the chief executive of Loewe. At Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton, the biggest screams greeted Rosé and Lisa of Blackpink; at Acne Studios, fans went wild for a shirtless Johnny Suh , the Korean American singer, flanked by the J-pop star Mandy Sekiguchi and members of ILLIT , the latest band to emerge from Hybe, an agency that represents K-pop acts, including BTS.

Similar scenes took place in Milan and at the Burberry show in London, where official brand ambassadors, including the Chinese actress Tang Wei , the Thai actor Vachirawit Chivaaree , known as Bright, and the South Korean soccer star Son Heung-min , were all in attendance.

Fashion brands have cultivated relationships with key Chinese and South Korean ambassadors for more than a decade. But in a volatile luxury landscape with a stagnating North American market, Southeast Asia has become increasingly important. Data from the consulting firm Bain & Company predicts regional sales growth of 4.8 percent in 2024 , with Thailand expected to grow the most thanks to its local consumer base and tourism from neighboring Asian countries. Now many fashion houses are doubling down on celebrity partnerships from that region, especially with stars from Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

In a world obsessed with celebrity, the right endorsement by the right face at the right time is the most powerful marketing move a brand can make. Competition among brands to sign contracts with famous names is increasingly fierce and expensive.

“We look for the best in class in their field, be it acting, singing or sport, and also people we know can really personify the look and aesthetic of Burberry,” said Rod Manley, the chief marketing officer of Burberry, about its criteria for a brand partner, adding that Asia accounts for more than a third of Burberry sales.

After a celebrity’s fashion week appearance or a social media post by a star wearing branded product, fashion companies scrutinize online impressions and engagement, as well as photographs and content across social and traditional media platforms and geographical markets to quantify the value of their investment.

“When it comes to Asian celebrities and platforms, some of these numbers are astronomically high and reach more than Western ambassadors,” Mr. Manley said, “especially when they have a new project like a TV series coming out, which doubles the impact of having them associated with the brand.”

Launchmetrics, a data analytics and software firm, uses an algorithm it calls Media Impact Value to assign monetary value to posts, placements and articles. Last season it found that a single appearance by Jisoo of Blackpink at a Dior show accounted for 14 percent of total media impact value (or $8.1 million) for the fashion house.

In comparison, Western names like Robert Pattinson accounted for $2.7 million and Jennifer Lawrence, $4.5 million. (Dior declined to comment for this article.)

fashion travel week

According to Alison Bringé, the chief marketing officer of Launchmetrics, contracts with Asia Pacific celebrities bring partner brands both local and global credibility, especially at a time when many shoppers are embracing representation and cultural inspiration outside their home country. At fashion shows in Europe today, she said, fans screaming at the doors for a glimpse of Korean or Thai stars are just as often from Italy or France as they are from Asia or of Asian heritage.

While some American stars continue to significantly influence fashion trends, notably Zendaya and Kylie Jenner, there is a willingness among Asian celebrities to experiment with their wardrobes that makes them appealing for Western brands, Ms. Bringé said. And social media plays an outsize role in influencing consumer behavior in Asia; online, fans often tell one another to buy products recommended by their idols.

At the Acne Studios show last week, Mr. Suh , who found fame with the boy band NCT, made his Paris Fashion Week debut posing on a giant chair made out of tires. He wore denim flares and a long biker jacket over a bare chest, his flowing black hair dyed orange at the tips. It was nearly impossible to enter the show because of his screaming followers.

“Johnny is a very good fit for us,” a spokesman for the brand said, noting that Mr. Suh “embodies the androgynous spirit of Acne Studios and has a very creative personal sense of style.”

Mr. Manley of Burberry added that unlike their Western counterparts, celebrities from South Korea, Thailand and other Asian countries are usually more amenable to interacting with their fans and view it as part of their job, spending significant time taking selfies and signing autographs before or after an event.

Asian celebrities also draw big crowds in the region, he added. “You sort of expect a scene at fashion week,” he said, “but when we do a store opening in Asia and invite stars, thousands of fans will descend on that shopping mall compared to say 100 elsewhere. It’s just not on the same scale.”

Inside the World of K-Pop

The popular music genre hailing from south korea has won over a global fanbase with viral hits, precision-drilled dancing and custom-groomed artists..

As K-pop continues its long march to American awareness, what are the potential risks of that embrace ?

Musical acts like Balming Tiger are challenging the idea  that K-pop is nothing but polished, perfectly synchronized boy bands and girl groups.

Fans of the K-pop band BTS have known for years that a day would come when its seven members would all be doing mandatory service in the South Korean military. That day arrived on Dec. 12, 2023 .

Over the past few years, the musical group Blackpink has emerged as a worldwide force , reaping the benefits of K-pop’s globalization. But younger acts are now charting the way forward .

In conservative South Korea, few L.G.B.T.Q. entertainers have ever come out. The young members of QI.X, a fledgling K-pop group, don’t see the point of staying in .

The 2012 viral hit “Gangnam Style” helped pave the way for K-pop’s global ascent. But Psy, the artist behind it, spent years being  haunted by the song’s success .
