10 Ways to Get Flight Itinerary for Visa Application (4 Free and 6 Paid)

Updated: September 11, 2023

Travel itinerary for visa application

Obtaining a flight itinerary for visa can be the most challenging and confusing aspect of the visa process. Embassies and consulates require confirmed flight tickets, but they do not advise purchasing actual tickets prior to visa approval. Confusing, isn’t it?

Consulates often request one of the following:

  • Flight itinerary
  • Flight reservation
  • Travel itinerary
  • Confirmed flight tickets
  • Round-trip flight tickets
  • Round-trip airline tickets
  • Proof of onward travel
  • Proof of return ticket

All of these terms essentially mean one thing: A Flight Itinerary .

Table of Contents

What is a flight itinerary for visa.

A flight itinerary for visa is essentially a flight booking made in your name that can be submitted as a flight ticket for your visa application. This can be a fully paid and confirmed flight ticket or a flight reservation held in your name for a specific duration.

A flight reservation must be verifiable online on the airline’s website using a PNR number. The reservation must have details such as your full name, flight dates, flight numbers and airport codes.

Visa applicants sometimes refer to a flight itinerary as a dummy ticket for visa . However, you will not see the word dummy ticket being used in official visa guidelines from the embassies.

Why do embassies and consulates ask for a flight itinerary?

There are many reasons why embassies or consulates ask for a flight itinerary. They want to see your flight itinerary to determine your visa validity, to understand your travel plans and whether you require visas to other countries en route.

01. To determine your visa validity

The consulate would like to know how long you plan to stay in the country. You will, of course, mention this information in the visa application. But a flight itinerary will confirm this information.

For example, a Schengen visa is issued for the exact amount of days you request in your first application. If your itinerary is for 12 days, you will get the visa for 12 days.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: When I applied for my Schengen visa from the Spain consulate, my itinerary was for 21 days. My Schengen visa was issued with a validity of 30 days.

02. To understand your travel plans

A travel itinerary will help visa officers to understand whether you will be traveling directly from your home country or country of residence. Or you will be traveling from a third country. This also helps the visa officers request any additional documents.

For example, if you will be traveling from a third country, the embassy can ask for proof of residence in the third country or a complete round-trip ticket starting and ending in your home country.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: For my Malaysia visa, I submitted a flight itinerary for India-Malaysia and Malaysia-Vietnam, assuming that flights into and out of Malaysia would be sufficient. The embassy later asked me to upload complete round-trip tickets starting and ending in India (my home country), including any other countries. They wanted to make sure I was not going to remain in a third country and would return to India.

03. To determine whether you require a visa to third countries

If your travel itinerary includes a third country for which you require a visa, the embassy will ask you to prove that you have a visa to enter the third country. Similarly, if you have a stopover in a third country, the embassy would like to see if you have the proper visa to transit via a third country.

For example, you are traveling from Dubai to France, France to the UK and then back to Dubai. The France embassy will notice that you will be traveling to the UK from France. If you require a visa for the UK, France will contact you asking to provide a copy of your UK visa.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: For my Schengen visa from the Spain embassy, my flight was via Mexico. I was planning to attend a friend’s wedding in Mexico before heading to Spain. The Spain consulate asked if I have a visa to enter Mexico. I had to explain to them that I can use my US visa to enter Mexico.

Should You Book Flight Tickets Before Visa Approval?

No. You should not purchase your fight tickets before your visa approval. Embassies and consulates acknowledge that a visa application does not guarantee approval. They recommend submitting a flight reservation and not a fully-paid flight ticket.

If your visa application is denied or delayed, you will lose the money spent on the flight tickets. Airlines and insurance providers do not consider visa refusal as a valid reason for refund claims.

Do not purchase your airline tickets until your visa application is approved. If the embassy requires proof of fully-paid tickets, they will explicitly request them.

How to Get Fight Itinerary for Visa Application?

There are paid and free ways to get a flight itinerary for visa. Some airlines and booking websites offer the option to hold flight reservations for free. However, not all airlines serve every route. You will have to explore different airlines and booking websites to find the option for holding reservations for free.

Alternatively, you can get a flight reservation for visa by paying a nominal fee. Some airlines and third-party agents offer this service for a fee.

Here are 10 proven methods (4 free and 6 paid) to obtain a travel itinerary for visa application.

01. Purchase a Fully Refundable Ticket [Paid option]

United Airlines Fully Refundable Fares

Purchasing a refundable ticket is the most reliable and foolproof option for your flight itinerary for visa. This type of ticket leaves no room for questioning its authenticity.

Most airlines offer fully refundable flight tickets but at a higher price. Generally, the cost is 5 to 10 times higher compared to non-refundable or regular-priced flight tickets. Most airlines process refunds relatively quickly, typically within a few days to a few weeks.

However, it’s important to note that even with a refundable ticket, certain booking sites and airlines may charge a cancellation fee. For example, Etihad Airways charges $30 and CheapOair charges $150 on cancellations of fully refundable tickets.

PRO TIP Book fully refundable tickets directly on the airline’s website. Call the airline first to inquire about their cancellation policy on refundable tickets. Ask if they charge an admin fee or tax for cancellations and refunds on fully refundable tickets.

  • A refundable ticket is a valid, confirmed and fully-paid ticket. It removes any concerns about the consulate verifying its authenticity.
  • The upfront cost of a refundable ticket is significantly higher, usually 5 to 10 times more than a regular ticket.
  • Some airlines and booking websites charge an admin fee to cancel fully refundable tickets
  • Refunds can take several days to weeks to process, depending on the airline.
  • To receive the refund, you must keep the credit card used for the purchase active.

02. Use a Visa Ticket Booking Website [Paid option]

Visa Ticket Booking Agent

There are several online travel agents offering flight reservations for a nominal fee. These agents can hold a reservation for up to 3 weeks. They also provide express service if you are in a rush.

Recommended agents:

  • Dummy Ticket | Price $19 USD | Booking valid for 2-3 weeks
  • Visa Reservation | Price $40 USD | Booking valid for 2 weeks

DummyTicket is one of the oldest agencies in the business of providing flight itineraries for visas. They have a 4.6 rating on Trustpilot. Read my dummyticket.com review for more information.

03. Use a Local Travel Agent to Hold a Flight Reservation [Paid option]

Travel itinerary for visa application - Travel agent flight ticket hold

Travel agents have the ability to hold flight reservations. They can hold tickets for up to 7 days without payment.

You can visit any local travel agent in your city and request a flight itinerary for visa. They will typically charge a small fee for this service.

  • By paying a nominal fee, you can hold a round-trip flight reservation for a duration of 7 days.
  • This option is suitable only if the visa processing timeframe does not exceed 7 days.

04. Use an Onward Ticket Booking Agency [Paid option]

Onward Ticket Booking Agent

There are onward ticket booking sites that offer flight reservations valid for 48 hours for a nominal fee. These reservations are commonly used as proof of onward travel, but they can also be used for visa purposes.

  • Onward Ticket | Price $16 USD | Ticket valid for 48 hours | Instant booking | 5% discount with code VT5
  • Best Onward Ticket | Price $12 USD | Ticket valid for 48 hours

OnwardTicket is my go-to option for proof of onward ticket these days. They have a 4.6 rating on Trustpilot. Read my Onward Ticket review for more information.

  • These reservations work as proof of onward travel or a return ticket for Visa on Arrival.
  • For a small fee, you will have a legitimate and verifiable round-trip flight reservation for your visa.
  • This option is not suitable for visa applications with processing times longer than 48 hours.
  • For Visa on Arrival, you must time it correctly so the ticket remains valid while obtaining the visa at the airport.

05. Use Paid Ticket Hold Option by Airlines [Paid option]

United Airlines FareLock

Some airlines provide the option to hold a confirmed flight reservation for a nominal fee for a specific duration. The fee and duration vary among different airlines. Typically, the fee ranges from $10 to $45 to hold the ticket for approximately 3 days.

Airlines for destinations in Europe

  • Aegean Air Hold My Booking | 7-day hold for €6
  • TAP Portugal Time to Think | 2-day hold for €8, 5-day hold for €12 and 10-day hold for €15
  • British Airways Hold Flight | 3-day hold for $10
  • Iberia Pre-booking | 3-day hold for €10
  • Wizz Air Fare Lock | 2-day hold for $15
  • Air France Time to Think | 3-day hold for $36
  • KLM Airlines Time to Think | 3-day hold for $36
  • Turkish Airways Hold the Price | 3-day hold for $45 and 7-day hold for $65

Airlines for destinations in North or South America

  • United Airlines Farelock | 3-day hold for $5.99, 7-day hold for $8.99 and 14-day hold for $12.99
  • Copa Airlines PriceLock | 3-day hold for $8.99 and $7-day hold for $13.99

Airlines for destinations in Asia

  • Singapore Airlines Secure My Fare | 3-day hold for $11
  • Qatar Airways Hold Flight | 3-day hold for $20
  • Emirates Hold My Fare | 3-day hold for $30

Airlines for destinations in Oceania

  • Air New Zealand Fare Hold | 3-day hold for $45
  • These reservations are verifiable bookings, so they can work as flight itineraries for visa applications.
  • For a small fee, you will have a verifiable and confirmed flight reservation for your visa.
  • It can be time-consuming to search for airlines that offer ticket hold options for your desired destination.

Note from Thirumal I’m compiling a list of such airlines, I will publish an article with the list soon. Stay tuned!

06. Purchase a Non-refundable Flight Ticket [Paid option]

Travel itinerary for visa application - Skyscanner flight ticket booking

Only purchase non-refundable flight tickets if you are one hundred percent confident that your visa will be approved. I have personally booked non-refundable flight tickets on multiple occasions, but it was for a visa that I had applied for and received approval for in the past.

You can use any flight search engine to find the best deals on non-refundable flights, but below are my recommended ones.

Recommend flight search engines:

  • Skyscanner | Great search engine to find the cheapest flight tickets
  • Momondo | Also a great search engine with great discounts
  • A non-refundable flight ticket is a confirmed and fully paid airline ticket. There is no need to worry about the consulate verifying its authenticity.
  • If you book a non-refundable ticket in advance, you will get it at a much lower price compared to buying it after visa approval.
  • In the event of visa refusal, you will lose the money spent on the non-refundable ticket.
  • Airlines, embassies and insurance providers do not consider visa refusal as a valid reason for ticket cancellations and refund claims.

07. Use Free 24-Hour Ticket Cancellation by Airlines and Booking Sites [Free option]

United Airlines 24-hour Free Cancellation

Certain US-based airlines and online ticket booking websites provide options for free cancellation within 24 hours of booking. These sites allow you to cancel a flight ticket within 24 hours of booking.

  • Expedia | Free cancellation within 24 hours of booking
  • Priceline | Free cancellation within 24 hours of booking
  • Orbitz | Free cancellation within 24 hours of booking
  • Travelocity | Free cancellation within 24 hours of booking
  • United Airlines | Free cancellation within 24 hours of booking
  • American Airlines | Free cancellation within 24 hours of booking

PRO TIP It’s important to note that tickets from budget airlines, such as AirAsia, cannot be canceled even when booked through online booking websites. To ensure that a ticket can be canceled for free within 24 hours of booking , review the fine print carefully on the checkout page.

  • This option serves as excellent proof of onward travel or a return ticket when obtaining a Visa on Arrival.

NOTE It’s important to time it properly so that you are still within the 24-hour period when obtaining the Visa on Arrival. After completing your Visa on Arrival process, you can cancel the ticket for a full refund.

  • These tickets must be canceled within 24 hours; otherwise, cancellation and refunds are not possible.
  • This option may not be suitable for visa applications with processing times longer than 24 hours.

08. Use Free Ticket Hold Option by Airlines [Free option]

Travel Itinerary of Visa - Copa Airlines Free Hold with Price Lock

Some airlines provide the option to hold a fare for a certain duration. When booking a ticket, you are given a specific period of time to make the payment. This booking can serve as a printable itinerary for your visa application. Although the booking indicates a specific time frame for payment, it is still acceptable for visa applications.

  • Copa Airlines Price Lock | Free hold for 24 hours
  • Qatar Airways Hold My Booking | Free hold for 24 hours
  • There is no need to keep track of the hold duration. If unpaid within the specified duration, the booking is canceled automatically.
  • This option is not suitable for visa applications that take longer than 2 days for processing.

09. Use Award Miles and Hold Option [Free option]

Travel itinerary for visa application - American Airlines award miles ticket hold

Certain airlines provide the option to hold a flight reservation for up to 5 days when purchasing an award ticket or using airline miles. The held reservation can be used as a printable itinerary for your visa application. Though the reservation indicates a specific time frame for purchase, it is still acceptable for visa applications.

  • American Airlines | Free hold for up to 5 days using AAdvantage miles
  • Turkish Airways | Free hold for up to 7 days for Miles&Smiles members
  • Singapore Airlines | Free hold for up to 7 days
  • Cathay Pacific | Free hold for up to 7 days
  • This option works perfectly fine for visa applications that take less than a week to process.
  • This service is offered free of charge to members of airline award programs.
  • To utilize this option, you must have a frequent flyer account and a certain amount of miles.
  • Not all airline websites provide the online option to hold award tickets. In such cases, you may need to contact the airline directly and request them to hold your award ticket.
  • This option is not useful for visa applications that take longer than 5-7 days for processing.

10. Print non-Verifiable Itineraries from Airline Websites [Free option]

Trip Summary from Qatar Airways

Some airlines allow you to print or email a flight itinerary from their website. These flight itineraries look similar to a reservation that can be used for visa applications.

  • Print Trip Summary from Qatar Airways website
  • Email a Price Quote from British Airways website (* does not work anymore as this feature has been removed from BA website)
  • This option is suitable for visa applications that do not require verifiable itineraries such as the UK visa.
  • This option is not applicable for visas that require verifiable itineraries such as Schengen visa.

BONUS: Use a Fake Ticket Generator [Risky option]

Fake Flight Ticket Generators

There are online tools available for generating fake airline tickets. These tools can create a fake flight itinerary that closely resembles a genuine booking. However, it’s important to note that these bookings are fake and cannot be verified.

Using a fake flight itinerary for visa application is an extremely risky option. Such fake itineraries must be used at your own discretion.

Available fake ticket generators:

  • FakeFlightTickets | Price $5 USD | Downloadable fake ticket
  • KeyFlight | Free service | Downloadable fake ticket

WARNING It is important to understand that submitting a fake flight itinerary for visa application is illegal and against the law. If found, you may face visa refusal or a permanent ban. Please be aware of the potential risks involved when using fake flight itineraries.

  • It’s convenient to generate fake flight itineraries whenever needed.
  • These tickets are fake, and their usage for visas is illegal.

Embassies and consulates do not recommend purchasing flight tickets before visa approval. Instead, they ask you to submit a flight itinerary for visa application.

A flight itinerary is essentially a flight booking made in your name. Such a flight reservation must be verifiable online on the airline’s website using a PNR number.

Though many countries are doing away with flight itineraries for visa applications, it is still a common practice for embassies to ask for them. There are many ways to obtain a confirmed flight itinerary for visa, but not all options are free. Some options require a nominal fee or claiming a refund.

Applying for a visa to the EU or another location that requires an itinerary, but not sure where to get started? There are two major parts of a travel itinerary for visa purposes: evidence of flight reservations and hotel bookings. When creating an itinerary for your trip, it can be a little tricky figuring out how to get flight and hotel information without being on the hook for bills if your visa application isn’t successful. Luckily, we’ve got you covered with all the information you need to know about providing flight and lodging information for your visa, as well as the actual process of putting together the itinerary itself. Read on for our guide on how to create a travel itinerary for your visa application.

Obtaining Flight Information for Your Itinerary

Step 1 Get a flight reservation to avoid paying the full ticket fare.

  • Flight reservations are also sometimes called dummy tickets, which are acceptable for a number of visa applications, including the Schengen visa. These reservations are officially booked with an airline, so the airline will have a record of your transaction.
  • You can also look into using a reputable third-party service online to make legitimate flight reservations. Forged dummy tickets are illegal, so be careful when booking with third parties. It’s easy for officials to check to see if a dummy ticket is legitimate, and if you’re caught, your application will be denied.

Step 2 Purchase a refundable ticket if you’re willing to spend more upfront.

  • The additional cost of a refundable ticket can be very high. In some cases, a refundable ticket costs twice as much as a standard one. [3] X Research source
  • Although it might be tempting to refund your ticket when your visa is approved, then purchase a standard ticket, you may run into some trouble. If your original flight sells out, you won’t be able to travel on the same flight that you told the visa consulate about, which can raise some questions with officials upon your arrival.

Step 3 Hold a ticket with an airline if you can process your visa quickly.

  • Keep in mind that visas to some areas, like the EU, generally take 15 days for a decision (and potentially even longer). If the country you’re trying to travel to can process visas faster than this, then holding the ticket with the airline can be a great option.
  • For tickets purchased through award points, you may be able to hold your ticket for a longer period of time than if you were paying with cash. Check your airline’s policy.

Step 4 Hold a ticket with a travel agency for an insider’s advantage.

  • Shopping around with different travel agencies is a good way to ensure you can pick one with the best solution. Ask them if they have experience with holding tickets for visa applications and how they can best help you through the process.

Getting Lodging Information for Your Itinerary

Step 1 Purchase a refundable hotel reservation to protect your wallet.

  • Be sure to read the fine print of any hotel reservation you make. Some third-party sites for booking hotel rooms will advertise a room as being refundable even when it isn’t.

Step 2 Ask a friend for their address if they’re hosting you.

  • Some visa applications, including the Schengen visa, also require you to provide a letter from your friend or family member where they officially invite you to stay with them. This letter should also include information about your relationship with the host, as well as who will be responsible for covering the costs of your stay.

Step 3 Book a non-refundable reservation if you have a great deal.

Putting Together Your Itinerary

Step 1 Gather your flight and lodging information.

  • June 6th: Arriving to Berlin in the morning, going to Reichstag in afternoon, returning to AirBnB at night. June 7th: Going to Markthalle in morning, tour at Tiergarten in afternoon, and to Berghain at night.

Step 4 Submit your itinerary with your application.

  • If you’re denied a visa, many countries, including those from the Schengen area, will inform you of the reasons for this decision. You’ll then have a chance to submit an appeal to try and change the decision.

Expert Q&A

  • Although purchasing travel insurance might seem like a good way to protect your wallet, unfortunately, insurance likely won’t cover the costs of a missed trip due to a visa rejection. [11] X Research source Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0

Flight itinerary for visa application and how do I get one

Flight itinerary for visa application and how do I get one

A flight itinerary is a document that outlines your travel plans, including the details of your flights, accommodation, and transportation. It is often required when applying for a visa, especially if you need to show proof of onward travel.

In this article, we will discuss what a flight itinerary is, why it is important for visa applications, and how to obtain one. We will also provide some tips on how to make a flight reservation through travel visa booking websites.

Understanding Flight Itinerary for Visa Applications

Visa applicants can be overwhelmed by the numerous documents that embassies or consulates require. It can be confusing to understand what documents are needed, the type of document required, where to obtain them, and the steps to acquire them. One such document that an embassy or consulate may ask for is a flight itinerary or a round-trip flight reservation. This document may have different names depending on the embassy/consulate, such as :-

  • Booked/Confirmed Flight Itinerary,
  • Round Trip Reservation,
  • Flight Reservation/Confirmation,
  • Confirmed/Round Trip Flight Tickets,
  • Proof Of Onward Travel, Etc.

On social media and discussion boards, people may also refer to it as a

  • Dummy Air Ticket,
  • Dummy Ticket for Visa Application,
  • Air Ticket Booking, etc.

Flight Ticket: Definition and Purpose

A flight itinerary for visa purposes is a detailed record of the route of your flight, including essential information such as the name of the airline, departure and arrival timings, dates, flight code, departure and arrival airport IATA codes, and the booking or reservation numbers.

A flight ticket, on the other hand, is a document issued by an airline or travel agency to confirm that an individual has paid for a seat on an aircraft for a particular flight.

Typically, a flight ticket includes the following details:

  • The name of the traveler
  • The name of the airline and flight number
  • The reservation or booking ID
  • The departure and arrival dates
  • The IATA codes of the airports
  • The cost of the ticket
  • Information on any connecting flights if applicable.

Do You Need to Purchase a Flight Ticket Prior to Visa Application?

It is not always necessary to purchase a flight ticket before applying for a visa. Some countries may accept a flight itinerary or reservation as proof of travel plans instead of an actual ticket. This allows the applicant to secure their travel plans without committing to a specific flight and paying for the ticket upfront.

However, it is advisable to check the specific visa requirements of the country you are applying to in order to determine if a flight itinerary or ticket is required.

One-Way Ticket vs. Return Ticket: Differences and Usage

Air travel itineraries are predominantly characterized by two types: one-way tickets and return tickets. Their differences lie in their purpose and usage.

One-Way Ticket

  • It's a single flight between two destinations without a return trip.
  • Suitable for individuals with a specific travel plan or an indefinite return date.
  • Commonly used for relocation, job-seeking, or extended travel plans.

Return Ticket

  • Also known as a round-trip ticket, it includes two flights: outbound and return.
  • Ideal for travelers with a fixed travel plan and a definite return date.
  • Commonly used for short vacations, business trips, or family visits.
  • A cost-effective option as it often offers a discounted rate compared to purchasing two separate one-way tickets.

In summary, the choice between a one-way and a return ticket hinges on the traveler's specific plan and needs. One-way tickets cater to uncertain plans, while return tickets are tailored for fixed plans with a known return date.

Flight Reservation: Meaning and Significance

A flight reservation is a document that outlines a proposed travel itinerary, including flight details and travel dates. It is not the same as a purchased flight ticket but serves as proof of a traveler's intent to fly on a specific date and route.

Flight reservations are typically requested by embassies and consulates during the visa application process as they provide assurance that the traveler has made arrangements for their trip and intends to return to their country of origin. In some cases, a round-trip flight reservation may be required to demonstrate proof of onward travel.

Dummy Ticket: Definition and Purpose

A dummy air ticket is a flight reservation that serves as proof of a proposed travel itinerary, typically a round-trip reservation from the original departure country. However, unlike a paid flight ticket, a dummy ticket is not a confirmed booking.

It is essentially a document that includes details of the proposed travel itinerary but does not guarantee a seat on the flight. Dummy tickets are often used in the visa application process as a means to demonstrate proof of onward travel, without incurring the cost of purchasing a full flight ticket.

Providing a Dummy Ticket for Visa Applications

A flight reservation or dummy ticket is a crucial component in the visa application process. It offers proof of onward travel, showcasing the applicant's intent to leave the country within the visa's validity. Embassies and consulates require this as a precautionary measure to prevent overstays or unauthorized activities.

Key reasons for providing a dummy ticket during visa applications:

  • Serves as proof of onward travel plans.
  • Ensures visa applicants do not overstay or engage in prohibited activities.
  • Allows applicants to secure travel plans without buying a full ticket upfront.
  • Prevents wasted expenses in case the visa application is denied.

It is essential to avoid using fake or fraudulent dummy tickets, as this can lead to:

  • Visa denial.
  • Legal consequences.
  • Difficulty obtaining visas in the future.

Legitimate options for obtaining a flight reservation or dummy ticket include:

  • Travel agencies.
  • Online services specifically designed for visa applications.

In summary, providing a valid flight reservation or dummy ticket is vital to a smooth and successful visa application process and should be taken seriously.

How to Obtain a Flight Itinerary for Any Visa Application

When it comes to obtaining a confirmed flight reservation for a visa application, there are two main options available:

  • Purchasing a refundable flight ticket
  • Reserving a cheaper flight ticket

However, it's important to note that many flight reservations are only valid for a short period of time, typically up to 72 hours, while visa application confirmations can take up to fifteen days. As a result, it's crucial to find a way to hold the booked flight reservation for a longer period.

Fortunately, there are various ways to accomplish this, depending on your preferences. It's worth noting that regardless of the method you choose, you should always book a round-trip flight reservation to ensure compliance with visa application requirements.

Making a Flight Reservation through Travel Visa Booking Websites

Travel booking websites offer the option to reserve a flight without paying the full price of the ticket upfront. To book a flight using this method, follow these steps:

  • Visit a travel booking website such as Visa Reservation.
  • Select the appropriate travel package that suits your needs.
  • Provide your flight and travel details and pay the required fee.
  • Wait for an email confirmation that includes all the necessary details about your flight reservation.

By following these steps, you can secure a flight reservation without the need to pay the full price of the ticket upfront, making it an affordable option for visa applications and other travel needs.

Obtaining a Confirmed Flight Itinerary by Buying a Refundable Flight Ticket

If you need to purchase an airline ticket for a visa application, it's best to choose a fully refundable ticket. While these tickets are more expensive than normal ones, they ensure you can get your money back if your application is rejected. Just keep in mind that some airlines charge cancellation fees, and refund processing time can vary from a few days to several weeks. For the best deals on refundable tickets, book directly through the airline's website.

Booking a Flight Ticket through a Local Travel Agent

Using a local travel agent can be a great option for purchasing a travel ticket, even though they may charge a fee of around 10% of the ticket price (which can vary). This is because they are often able to hold a ticket reservation for at least seven days, or sometimes even longer.

Holding a Reservation with Fee-based Option Offered by Airlines

To find an airline that offers flight reservation booking, it's important to do some research as not all airlines provide this service. Some airlines do offer ticket holds for a small fee, typically ranging from $10 to $30. The length of time they can hold the ticket varies by airline, but generally it's around 3 days.

Holding a Reservation for Free with Option Offered by Airlines and Online Booking Websites

To secure a flight reservation, some airlines will hold it for up to 48 hours, but it's best to confirm with the airline if they can hold it for longer. Alternatively, certain flight booking agencies, such as Yatra, offer free holds for up to three days.

Yatra is an online travel booking website based in India that allows customers to place their seat reservation on hold without having to make an immediate payment.

What is a Flight Reservation?

A flight reservation is essentially a document outlining the details of your planned travel or flight itinerary to a specific country.

Now it helps to note that consolates or embassies might use various titles or phrases to refer to a ‘flight reservation’, thus potentially causing confusion to just about anyone. Some of those phrases are as follows:

  • Confirmed roundtrip flight rickets
  • Flight itinerary plan
  • Travel itinerary
  • Proof of onward travel
  • Proof of return tickets

These can be quite puzzling because terms like ‘ confirmed ‘ and ‘ reserved ‘ don’t usually mean the exact same thing, right? But to clear it once and for all, these all essentially mean one thing: a flight reservation.

Moreover, embassies do NOT advise you to fully pay or confirm a flight ticket for your visa because if they deny your application or if their approved travel period for you does not align with your confirmed flight, then they are definitely NOT going to cover your costs.

“Do proof of onward travel and flight reservation mean the same thing?”

Yes, “proof of onward travel” and “flight reservation” essentially refer to the same concept. Both involve demonstrating that you have a planned and confirmed departure from the destination country.

If any distinction exists, it’s that the former is commonly requested during immigration processes, while the latter is typically a requirement for visa applications.

READ MORE HERE: How to Get Proof of Onward Travel

“Why do embassies or consulates require a flight reservation for visa applications?”

Embassies and consulates typically request a flight itinerary or reservation for a visa application process to verify your intentions.

They aim to determine the validity of your visa, comprehend your travel plans, and assess whether you might also require visas for other countries en route. It will also help verify your intentions, confirm your travel plans and accommodation arrangements, as well as aid in cross-verifying information provided in your application, ultimately ensuring a thorough evaluation of your visa application.

What does a Flight Reservation look like?

A legitimate flight reservation must indicate:

  • Your full name
  • Your flight dates
  • Your flight number(s) & airport codes
  • PNR (Passenger Name Record) number

Sample Flight Reservation for Visa Application

A Passenger Name Record (PNR) is a record in the database of a computer reservation system (CRS) or airline hosting system consisting of 6 numbers and letters. It contains information about a passenger’s itinerary for a specific journey, including details such as flight segments, seat assignments, and other relevant information. Thus, embassies or consulates usually use this to validate your flight reservation — in fact, you can also check it yourself!

“Is the PNR number the same as an e-ticket number?”

Not at all; an e-ticket number (also often referred to as a booking reference number, flight confirmation number, or flight ticket number) is a unique identifier used by airlines to identify COMPLETED or fully-paid flight tickets — which is NOT what you need to submit when applying for visas…. unless of course, an embassy specifically asks for it, BUT this is rarely asked for.

“How can I check the flight reservation using its PNR code?”

Much like checking a fully confirmed or purchased airline ticket, the process is straightforward! Simply navigate to the official online website of the airline where your flight reservation is made, locate the “Manage Booking,” “My Trips,” or a comparable section, and then enter your PNR number along with your last name or other necessary details.

Within seconds, you’ll access and view your itinerary seamlessly!

How to Get a Flight Reservation?

Frequently referred to as a dummy ticket, obtaining a flight reservation is a breeze! I’ve outlined the top five methods, covering the optimal choice, as well as both FREE and paid alternatives.

#1. (BEST / Paid) Ticket Booking Service

OneWayFly How To

Many websites provide the option to ‘rent’ a plane ticket that can be valid for about 48 hours in exchange for a fee. These reservations are commonly used as proof of onward travel, but they can also serve as flight reservations for visa purposes.

My go-to platform for this is OneWayFly , which I’ve consistently relied on for various visa applications, including Schengen visas in the past.

  • Easy, convenient, & hassle-free : Booking your flight itinerary is super straightforward and everything can be done online. It’s also automatically cancelled so you don’t need to do anything afterwards. (Feel free to check out the simple guide I’ve shown below by clicking the ‘+’ toggle to expand the section)
  • Affordable : The basic service only costs $16!
  • Fast processing : You can get your flight reservation immediately (if you have specific requests, such as a preferred airline or flight number, the processing time can be as quick as 8 hours.)
  • Scheduled receipt: With its 48-hour validity, you have the flexibility to receive your flight reservation a day before your visa application appointment.
  • Legitimate and reliable : Their service works for any nationality and they have a 4.8 rating on TrustPilot!
  • 48-hour validity : OneWayFly retains your flight reservation for 2 days, but as long as it’s valid on your visa application date, there’s no issue. If it expires, OneWayFly can even swiftly recreate it. Rest assured, the embassy won’t reject your visa if the reservation expires; they’ll just request a resubmission of the flight reservation. Personally, I’ve never had problems with this!

⚠️ Step-by-Step Instructions on How to Book a Flight Reservation on OneWayFly

  • Go to OneWayFly ‘s website and click ‘ Book Now’
  • Your flight details. For this next page, enter the details of the flight route that you desire for your travel itinerary — much like how you book a regular flight ticket. Rest assured, if you have more specific requests, you can do so on the next page. For now, click the button that says “ Next Step” once you’re done.

Flight Itinerary for Visa

  • Your personal details. Enter your basic information (title, name, and email address). You can also add up to 4 more passengers on this page.

Passenger Details

  • WHEN: You can choose to get your flight reservation immediately (“ Receive today “), or have it delivered to your email address at a later date (“ Receive later “) — for only $2 extra, this is especially helpful if your visa application appointment is still days or weeks away.
  • SPECIAL REQUEST: If you have specific preferences, such as indicating a particular flight number or airline on your flight reservation, or if you wish to avoid transits through specific locations or avoid a US stopover, please mention those details here after selecting “ Specific “. Keep in mind that fulfilling such requests comes with an additional fee of $6, and it will take up to 8 hours to receive your customized flight reservation. However, please note that there’s no guarantee that such can be accommodated but they will do their best to get your request(s). If you have no specific preferences, you can simply select the “ Any ” option.
  • PAY IN: Choose either USD or EUR for your payment.

Special Options

  • Hotel Voucher. For an additional fee of about $20, you can also get a hotel reservation via OneWayFly — which is quite helpful because most visa applications also want to see proof of accommodation or hotel reservations. (Take note, this is valid for 14 days).

Hotel Reservation

  • Payment. On the last page, you can review your order and then choose to pay either by credit/debit card or by PayPal. Within a few hours, you’ll receive your flight reservation via email. Look for the PNR code in the .PDF document of your flight reservation and go to the airline’s website or CheckMyTrip to check that it is valid and viewable.

#2 (Paid) Travel Agent/Agency Service

Travel Agent or Agency

If you’re not aware, your nearby travel agents or travel agencies can absolutely handle booking a flight reservation for you! They’re usually well-versed in the details of travel and can help you out with this matter.

However, it’s worth noting that the fee they charge for this service typically starts at $20 or more. On the bright side, they often offer flight reservations that remain valid for 7 days (although many also provide options for shorter durations, such as a day or two, similar to OneWayFly ).

  • Long validity : Some tour agents or agencies can often hold a flight reservation for 24 hours up to 7 days.
  • Limited flexibility: Some tour agency bookings may have less flexibility in terms of changing dates, flights, or other components of your flight reservation.
  • Communication & time challenges: Given the fact that you’ll likely have to deal with them in person, it can cause delays in time or cause miscommunication.
  • Relatively more expensive : Costing about $20 and more, their service is often more expensive than online ticket booking services like OneWayFly .

#3 (Paid & FREE) 24H Ticket Cancellation Or Hold Option Service

24 Hour Cancellation or Hold Option for Airlines

• • • (FREE) 24-HOUR TICKET CANCELLATION Great news! Some ticket booking platforms and US airlines offer the benefit of free flight cancellation within 24 hours of booking. However, it’s important to be aware that if you present this type of proof to the embassy or consulate, it can only be verified within a day. As a result, it is only most effective as proof of onward travel OR as evidence of a return ticket when obtaining a visa on arrival at your destination. Additionally, it’s crucial to remember to cancel the reservation within the specified 24-hour window, or you won’t be eligible for a refund.

For this kind of service, the following websites can be used:

  • AeroMexico (FREE cancellation within 24 hours)
  • Alaska Airlines (FREE cancellation within 24 hours)
  • American Airlines (FREE cancellation within 24 hours)
  • British Airways (FREE cancellation within 24 hours)
  • Delta Airways (FREE cancellation within 24 hours)
  • Expedia * (FREE cancellation within 24 hours)
  • Hawaiian Airlines (FREE cancellation within 24 hours, if booking at least 1 week before departure)
  • KLM (FREE cancellation within 24 hours)
  • KoreanAir (FREE cancellation within 24 hours, if booking at least 1 week before departure)
  • Orbitz * (FREE cancellation within 24 hours)
  • Priceline* (FREE cancellation within 24 hours)
  • Travelocity * (FREE cancellation within 24 hours)
  • United Airlines (FREE cancellation within 24 hours)
  • WestJet (FREE cancellation within 24 hours)
PRO TIP : Exercise caution when booking with platforms marked with an asterisk (*) above, as while they provide a 24-hour cancellation service, certain budget airlines, such as AirAsia , may not be included in this scheme. Therefore, it is crucial to meticulously review the fine print on the checkout page to ensure you are well-informed about the cancellation policies applicable to your specific booking.
  • Refund eligibility: If you cancel within the 24-hour window, you are generally eligible for a full refund or the avoidance of charges.
  • Limited duration and options : As you can see, not all airlines provide this service. Plus, since it’s only valid for 24 hours, it’s often only useful for visa-on-arrival applications or as proof of onward travel.
  • Time-sensitive : You must remember to cancel this ticket within 24 hours, or else, you’ll have to pay for it in full.

• • • (FREE + PAID) HOLD OPTION Did you know? There is a “hold” option for flights and it’s often provided by some airlines or booking platforms that allow you to reserve a flight itinerary temporarily without completing the actual purchase. When you choose this option, the airline or platform sets aside the selected flight itinerary for a specified period, usually ranging from a few hours to a few days and this can serve as proof of a flight reservation for visa applications.

For this particular service, it can either be provided for FREE or for a fee:

  • (FREE hold for 24 hours) CopaAirlines PriceLock
  • (FREE hold for 24 hours) Qatar Airways Hold my Booking
  • (PAID hold for 7 days) Aegean Air Hold My Booking
  • (PAID hold for 3 days) Air France Time to Think
  • (PAID hold for 3 days) Air New Zealand Fare Hold
  • (PAID hold for 3 days) British Airways Hold Flight
  • (PAID hold for 2 to 7 days) CopaAirlines PriceLock
  • (PAID hold for 3 days) Emirates Hold my Fare
  • (PAID hold for 3 days) Iberia Pre-Booking
  • (PAID hold for 3 days) KLM Airlines
  • (PAID hold for 2 to 3 days) Qatar Airways Hold my Booking
  • (PAID hold for 3 days) Singapore Airlines Secure My Fare
  • (PAID hold for 2 to 10 days) TAP Portugal Time to Think
  • (PAID hold for 3 to 7 days) Turkish Airways Hold The Price
  • (PAID hold for 3 to 14 days) United Airlines Farelock
  • (PAID hold for 2 days) Wizz Air Far Lock
  • Authentic & verifiable : These can serve as proof of flight reservation for visa applications.
  • Relatively more expensive : Often costing about $25 and more, this kind of hold service is often more expensive than online ticket booking services like OneWayFly (about $16~ only).
  • Limited options : Searching through all these websites to find flights that suit your itinerary can be a time-consuming process.

#4 (FREE) Book with Airline Miles, Hold Awards, or Credit Card Points

Frequent Flyer Program Points or Miles

Are you a member of any frequent flyer programs? Well, guess what — some airlines can offer you the opportunity to reserve a flight for a period of up to 5 days by simply using your airline points, miles, or hold award program.

Once you avail of this, your reserved booking can serve as a printable itinerary to meet the requirements of your visa application. As of now, the frequent flyer programs that offer this service include the following:

  • American Airlines – AAdvantage (FREE reservation or hold for up to 5 days)
  • Cathay Pacific (FREE reservation or hold for up to 7 days)
  • Singapore Airlines – KrisFlyer (FREE reservation or hold for up to 7 days)
  • Turkish Airlines – Miles&Smiles (FREE reservation or hold for up to 7 days)
  • Cost-saving & free: Using frequent flyer miles often allows you to book flights without spending actual money, resulting in significant cost savings.
  • Frequent flyer status: Naturally, to use this option, you often need to be a long-time member and accumulate a certain number of miles or points.
  • Complex program rules: Each frequent flyer program has its own set of rules and restrictions, making it necessary to navigate and understand the specific terms and conditions.
  • Limited : There aren’t a lot of airlines that offer this kind of option and you will have to check with yours to see if they can do this.

As for when I mentioned credit card points, some credit card providers with associated rewards programs actually offer the possibility of booking refundable tickets using your accumulated points. It’s a viable option, but be sure to contact your provider to confirm if this service is available to you.

#5 (Paid) Book a Flight Ticket in Full

Book a Fully Paid Ticket

Securing a flight reservation for visa applications might lead you to consider the most foolproof option: simply booking a fully paid flight ticket (you can do this visa SkyScanner for example) . While it ensures authenticity for your visa application, it’s also the riskiest — denied visas could pose significant issues and the embassy won’t refund you for your troubles.

PRO TIP : Perhaps you actually have a budget-friendly flight path for your visa application, in which it can be offered by airlines like RyanAir or AirAsia . If that’s the case, booking directly is an option with costs ranging from $20 to $100. However, this isn’t usually the case; additionally, with OneWayFly ‘s affordable cost of only $16, opting for their service proves more sensible, right?

Alternatively, you may think, “I’ll just buy a fully refundable ticket!”

Indeed, you can do this, BUT this option comes with a higher price tag, often 5 to 10 times more than regular or non-refundable tickets.

Now, if you still opt for this route (not my top recommendation unless you’re absolutely certain about what you’re doing), please ALWAYS make sure to read the fine print. Refund processing times vary — some airlines are swift, while others may take days, weeks, or even months! Additionally, be aware of potential additional cancellation fees. So, please always exercise caution and ensure you’re well-informed before making a decision.

  • Full compliance : You’re demonstrating to the embassy that you possess the financial capability and confidence in your travel plans.
  • Highly risky: If your visa is denied, you’ll have to shoulder the costs on your own and you might even need to purchase another ticket for a separate trip or reapplication. Even embassies do NOT recommend this option.
  • Higher cost: Fully refundable tickets are typically more expensive than regular or non-refundable options, often costing 5 to 10 times more.
  • Refund processing time: While some airlines may issue refunds promptly, others might take days, weeks, or even months. This delay can be inconvenient if you need to reapply for a visa or make alternative travel arrangements.
  • Cancellation fees: Some airlines may charge additional cancellation fees, reducing the amount you receive upon refund.
  • Limited availability: Not all flights offer fully refundable options, limiting your choices in terms of airlines, routes, and schedules.

Yes, “ proof of onward travel ” and “flight reservation” essentially refer to the same concept. Both involve demonstrating that you have a planned and confirmed departure from the destination country. If any distinction exists, it’s that the former is commonly requested during immigration processes, while the latter is typically a requirement for visa applications.

Typically, a flight reservation may cost around $25 and up. However, OneWayFly offers a more budget-friendly option at just $16. The total fee is paid upfront, with complete transparency—no hidden charges or additional payments later. Prices include: standard one-way ticket reservation (valid for 48 hours) for $16, round-trip flight reservation (valid for 48 hours) for $30, hotel reservation for $20, with optional add-ons available: request to delay the reservation for $2 and special requests for $6.

For a more secure reservation, it’s advisable to book one or two days in advance. This minimizes the risk of flight cancellations or rescheduling. If this isn’t feasible, consider receiving your ticket closer to your visa application date. Service providers like OneWayFly offer this flexibility.

Unless explicitly specified by the airline or booking platform, there’s usually nothing else that you need to do after acquiring the service. For example, service providers like OneWayFly automatically cancels your reservation once its validity expires. So yes, no refund application or further action is required from your end.

I highly advise you NOT to do this. Providing false information, especially for official purposes like visa applications, is against the law and can lead to serious consequences, including visa rejection, legal action, and travel bans. That being said, it is essential to maintain honesty and integrity in all aspects of travel planning and document submission. So if you require a flight reservation, consider using legitimate services or actions such as those that I have listed in this article.

Sure you can, but this is highly risky. If your visa is denied or if the granted validity period doesn’t align with your booked flight ticket, you risk losing money, and the embassy won’t provide a refund for the flight ticket.

Yes you can. There are limited options available through airlines or booking platforms that allow you to reserve a flight for FREE. Please refer to this article for those options as I have listed them in detail.

How to Book a Flight Reservation for Visa Applications (a.k.a. Legitimate Dummy Ticket)

I hope this list of the 5 best options to book a flight itinerary or reservation for a visa application will help you save time, money, and effort — much like how it helped me!

Advance travel planning and early visa application are important. If you plan to apply for a nonimmigrant visa to come to the United States as a temporary visitor, please review the current wait time for an interview using the tool below. Not all visa applications can be completed on the day of the interview; please read the information below for more details .

Check the estimated wait time for a nonimmigrant visa interview appointment at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

Note: Please check the individual Embassy or Consulate website to determine if your case is eligible for a waiver of the in-person interview.

Applicants scheduling visa appointments in a location different from their place of residence should check post websites for nonresident wait times.

Select a U.S. Embassy or Consulate:

Global Visa Wait Times

Wait Time for Interview

The estimated wait time to receive a nonimmigrant visa interview appointment at a U.S. embassy or consulate and is based on workload and staffing and can vary from week to week. The information provided is an estimate and does not guarantee the availability of an appointment.

Wait Time for Interview Waiver

Wait times for applicants eligible for Interview Waiver are applicable only for locations where applicants schedule appointments to submit their passport and any required documents to a U.S. embassy or consulate. The wait time estimate does not account for the time required for a consular officer to adjudicate the application nor mailing time of passports or other documents. Refer to the website of the Embassy or Consulate Visa Section where you will apply to determine your eligibility for Interview Waiver and for instructions for submitting a nonimmigrant visa application. Note that applicants must be a national or resident of the country where they are applying to be eligible to apply via Interview Waiver.

Qualifications for an Expedited Interview Appointment

Consular sections overseas may be able to expedite your interview date if there is an urgent, unforeseen situation such as a funeral, medical emergency, or school start date. The process to request an expedited nonimmigrant visa interview varies by location. You should refer to the instructions on the website of the Embassy or Consulate Visa Section  where you will interview, or on their online appointment scheduling site. You will need to provide proof of the need for an earlier appointment.

In all cases : You must first submit the online visa application form (DS-160), pay the application fee, and schedule the first available interview appointment. Only at this point will a consular section consider your request for an expedited appointment.

Note: Travel for the purpose of attending weddings and graduation ceremonies, assisting pregnant relatives, participating in an annual business/academic/professional conference, or enjoying last-minute tourism does not qualify for expedited appointments. For such travel, please schedule a regular visa appointment well in advance.

These estimates do not include time required for administrative processing, which may affect some applications. When administrative processing is required, the timing will vary based on individual circumstances of each case.

There are only two possible outcomes for U.S. visa applications. The consular officer will either issue or refuse the visa. If a visa applicant has not established that he or she is eligible for a visa, the consular officer must refuse that application. However, some refused visa applications may require further administrative processing. When administrative processing is required, the consular officer will inform the applicant at the end of the interview. The duration of the administrative processing will vary based on the individual circumstances of each case. At the conclusion of the administrative processing period, the consular officer might conclude that an applicant is now qualified for the visa for which he or she applied. The officer may also conclude that the applicant remains ineligible for a visa. Visa applicants are reminded to apply early for their visas, well in advance of the anticipated travel date.

Important Notice:   Except in cases of emergency travel (i.e. serious illnesses, injuries, or deaths in your immediate family), before making inquiries about status of administrative processing, applicants should wait at least 180 days from the date of interview or submission of supplemental documents, whichever is later.

About Visa Processing Wait Times – Nonimmigrant Visa Applicants

Information about nonimmigrant visa wait times for interviews and visa processing time frames are shown on this website, as well as on U.S. Embassy and Consulate websites worldwide. It should be noted that the “Wait Times for a Nonimmigrant Visa to be Processed” information by country does not include time required for administrative processing. Processing wait time also does not include the time required to return the passport to applicants, by either courier services or the local mail system.

In addition, it is important to thoroughly review all information on the specific  Embassy or Consulate Visa Section website  for local procedures and instructions, such as how to make an interview appointment. Embassy and Consulate websites will also explain any additional procedures for students, exchange visitors and those persons who need an earlier visa interview appointment.

About Wait Times

* Calendar days refers to every day of the week, including days when embassies are closed (such as weekends and holidays).

† Work days refers only to days when the embassy is open and does not include weekends and holidays.

‡ A, G, and NATO applications are excluded from these wait times, as they are processed separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Read our frequently asked questions.

There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available but the majority have suffered alteration in some form by injected humour or randomised words which even slightly believable.

1. Which countries do you provide flight itinerary, hotel reservation and medical insurance for?

Do i have to commit to a contract.

The answer is ALL and ANY country around the globe! You could be an Indian resident, an NRI, or a foreign national – we will process your travel documents for any Visa Application. It also does not matter which country or countries you are travelling to. Our service is available to all. We work as per International and Schengen requirements and try our best to incorporate your airline, hotel and insurance preferences.

2. What is the best time to approach you for Visa Processing work?

You can hire our visa processing services any time of the year. We provide flight bookings, hotel reservations and insurance packages for all seasons and all reasons!

3. Can you handle multiple city travel bookings and itineraries? I want to visit multiple cities. Is there a limit on flight and hotel reservations that I can make?

Yes, absolutely! There is no limit to the number of flight and hotel bookings you want us to take up. If you are planning several individual or group trips in the near future, we will cater to those bookings simultaneously as well. Our packages include a maximum number of hotels. If you want to add to that list, please note that there will be a nominal charge per hotel booking. Our only request is that we need a complete round trip to work with, which will be treated as separate orders.

4. What should I do if my travel plans change after receiving my itinerary from you?

It is perfectly fine with us if you want to change your travel plans after receiving your travel itinerary. It is also possible that you might have inadvertently shared the wrong travel dates or cancelled a particular location from your trip entirely. We take complete care of ticket / booking cancellations and request you to pay only the service fee in case of re-bookings. The revised itinerary will be e-mailed to you within 24 hours. For speedier revisions of 12 hours or less, we do charge a nominal fee. Please call us at +1-516-835-7843 to know the latest applicable charges.

5. If I am denied my visa, will you refund my money?

We provide refunds only for those services which fall within our scope of work. If you are denied a visa due to errors we are responsible for, we guarantee you a full refund. However, we cannot take responsibility for visa rejections arising due to circumstances beyond our control or scope of work. We will need your Letter of Rejection duly authorized by the Embassy Official, along with any other rejection documents you might have. These will help us process your request for Refund successfully. For Insurance cancellations, you will need to approach us before the start date of the insurance package. Insurance Refunds will attract service charges and cancellation fee as stated in the policy.

6. Do you provide discounts for group travels?

Yes, the more the merrier, and the greater discounts and incentives you receive from us! Our group discount offers are unbeatable and one of the best in the market.

7. How quickly will you process my flight and hotel booking?

We start processing your travel information as soon as we receive your payment. Again, depending upon the pricing plan you choose, we can transfer the documents to you within 1, 6 or a maximum of 24 hours. We have an extensive team of Schengen Travel Agents with multiple years of domain expertise who support our customers’ requirements 24 x 7.

8. How can I check if you have chosen the best available flights and hotels?

We believe in maintaining transparent relations with our customers. That is why we give you all the airline and hotel booking details as soon as they are finalized. You can verify these details directly to ensure that we have indeed given you the best deal. Simply visit the applicable airline and hotel website, and enter your reservation code and name. You will be able to view your booking details immediately. Alternatively, you can also call the hotel or airline and request for your booking details first-hand.

9. For how many days will my flight / hotel booking and insurance package be valid?

The validity of your flight and hotel bookings as well as insurance plan can vary from one service provider to another. However, the typical duration is 2 weeks. But there are chances of airlines cancelling certain itineraries if a particular flight is over-booked. Same is the case for hotels as well. However, there is no cause for alarm. Being in this business, we can easily re-book your flight or hotel room(s) immediately, if such a situation rises.

10. Can you provide flight and hotel reservations for urgent visa requirements?

Yes, absolutely! You can contact our team of Schengen Travel Agents with your requirements and they will be quite happy to address your itinerary requirements on an as-per-demand basis. All we need is your complete support in providing us with the details we seek. We can provide you with a confirmed flight and hotel booking in as less as 1 hour!

We have been traveling the world for over four years now, so we have built up a lot of personal experience in moving from one country to another, either by land, by plane, or even by sea, using only my Philippines passport to do it. I applied and was approved for my ten-year USA visa while in South America. In the USA I applied and was approved for my ten-year UK visa and also my one-year Schengen Visa. I have had a lot of experience in applying for visas the right way, the honest and most efficient way, so I’m going to share with you one of the most important parts of the process when you apply for your Schengen Visa. In fact, while I am talking about applying for a Schengen Visa, the same applies to many other types of visa as well.

Turkish Airlines International Flight without Jet Lag

When we decided to take our dream Euro trip for our one-month honeymoon, we came up against the same challenge that so many others have come across before us, and much more do every day – the requirement to show a real flight reservation and travel itinerary for your whole trip. When you first see this requirement, you may well think that you have to book and pay for all of your flights and hotels before you can even start to apply for your Schengen Visa, which you don’t even know if you’re going to get! It’s easy to see why so many people would think this when this is what they were reading the application requirements from one of the Schengen countries.

How to Book a Flight Reservation for a Schengen Visa Application Without Actually Paying for a Full Flight Ticket!

“Copy of the roundtrip airline reservation with Passenger Registration Number (or reservation number) and travel itinerary. The reservation should prove that the stay in the Schengen area does not exceed 90 days. It is recommended not to buy the ticket until the visa is granted.”

But you can see how it gets even more confusing, “It is not recommended to buy the ticket until the visa is granted.” To the uninitiated first-time applicant, especially one born into the era of personal computers, the internet and doing everything yourself, this makes no sense whatsoever. How is it possible to get a confirmed flight booking and travel itinerary without actually paying for anything?!

How to Book a Flight Reservation for a Schengen Visa Application Without Actually Paying for a Full Flight Ticket!

The answer is all in the reasons why the embassies require an itinerary and not the fully paid for tickets to process visa applications. It’s as simple as the fact that they need to verify that you are traveling to that particular country for the reasons that you say you are. So if you have stated your reason for traveling there as, “tourism,” then it’s only logical that you should be able to show where you plan on going, when and for how long in order to prove that. Of course, they are not unreasonable people, so they don’t expect you to risk buying an expensive flight ticket and paying for accommodation before you know if the visa will be approved. That is why they only ask for an itinerary and a reservation, rather than a paid for a ticket.

The terms below are a good selection of what you find are used interchangeably by embassies and in visa materials, which can often confuse applicants. The important thing to know here is that all of these terms have the same meaning. They are all referring to a flight reservation which is verifiable with the airline and has a unique booking code, yet has not yet been paid for, therefore making it different to a flight ticket which has been paid for.

travel reservation for visa

  • Booked flight itinerary
  • Confirmed flight itinerary
  • Detailed flight reservation
  • Flight itinerary for flight visa application
  • Air ticket booking
  • Dummy air ticket
  • Dummy air ticket for visa
  • Fake flight booking
  • Flight confirmation
  • Flight reservation

Here are some examples of how different embassies talk about the requirement of a flight itinerary for visa applications:

“Proof of departure. A copy of detailed flight itinerary to Canada from an airline or a travel agency or showing entry and departure from Canada.” – Canadian Embassy website

Proof of departure simply means proof of how and when you will enter and leave the country you are applying to.

“The ticket should prove that the stay in the UK does not exceed 90 days. It is recommended not to buy the ticket until the visa is granted.” – Spanish Embassy website

This is why they need to see a verifiable travel itinerary. It will show the embassy that you have genuine plans to return home 0r continue your travels.

“Roundtrip air ticket booking record and proof of a hotel reservation, or an invitation letter issued by a relevant entity or individual in China.” – Chinese Embassy website

A roundtrip ticket simply means a booking showing you entering your target country and then leaving it at the end of your trip.

“Travel itinerary (travel reservations to and from Schengen area in your name, not a ticket). Note: make travel reservations which you can cancel.”  – Dutch Embassy website

The ‘travel itinerary’ is your schedule of travel, which shows where you will be, when and how. So flight bookings are exactly what they need.

“Proof of a reservation or a return flight is needed for the application and tickets are to be presented upon collection of the visa. It is strongly recommended not to purchase a flight ticket unless the visa has been granted.” – German Embassy website

Again, ‘proof of reservation’ is the same thing as a verifiable air ticket.

“Airplane or train reservation for the entire travel in the Schengen zone or proof of participating in an organized tour + photocopy.” – French Embassy website

As you can see, they are all talking about the same thing, just in slightly different ways!

There is such a thing as a confirmed booking without paying full price for a ticket, but it is something that only registered and licensed travel agents and operators can do. And not all of them are willing to do it either, as it costs them time and money. A registered travel agent is licensed to make a real flight and hotel reservations for exactly this purpose, but these days you may be hard-pressed to find a travel company who will go to the effort to do this for you if you’re walking up and down the street looking for one in person.

The most important thing to remember here is this – Do not book and pay for a real flight booking until you know that your visa has been approved!

travel reservation for visa

Even though you might think that you are doing the right thing by impressing the person reviewing your application, you will not score extra brownie points by spending loads of money on expensive flights and hotel bookings before you have a definitive answer about whether or not your visa has been approved. They do not want you to pay for a flight ticket that you’re not going to be able to use, so don’t do it!

The process of getting your verifiable flight ticket is very simple once you know how, so I’m going to show you exactly how to do it!

The first thing to know is that you don’t even have to leave your home (or even stand up!); you can get a full travel itinerary including flight reservation with a unique booking number all online!

travel reservation for visa

Yes! There is a website that you can go to for verifiable one way, round trip, and multi-city flight bookings for any country visa within minutes at an affordable price without you having to pay for actual tickets. The only thing we will caution against, however, is that there are many websites which claim to offer this service, yet what they are offering is not quite what it seems.

BEWARE of websites, companies or individuals offering cheap flight reservations for your visa application, without checking their credentials first. Some of these unauthorized and unlicensed websites claim to offer a genuine flight booking which is verifiable with the airline, yet all they are providing you are “dummy tickets” – forgeries, fakes, knock-offs – which are easily produced on Photoshop. These fakes will not pass the inspection in the embassy or the application center, so your visa application will be denied if you try to use one. Not only that, if any embassy catches you trying to use falsified documents to apply for a visa, they may have the ability to blacklist you and stop you being granted future visas for the same country or even others!

Ok, so now that all of the scary warning stuff is out of the way, how can find a website which is licensed and provides genuine flight reservations and travel itineraries for your Schengen visa application?

Hi. Exact same situation here. I really hope that this website is legit. thanks!

Hi! I actually tried calling a certain airline if they can do reservation and they told me yes. So I had a reservation ticket from them and you are given 30 days to own it, not unless you pay for it then it will be yours but that’s not the point here, after that it will expire so better do the reservation during the time you are going to submit your application to a certain embassy. It worked for me and I didn’t pay a single penny for it. But this is really a good guide though.:)
