Navigator Of The Seas Itineraries

Navigator of the seas review, review of navigator of the seas.

The 2002-built Navigator of the Seas cruise ship is the 4th Voyager-class Royal Caribbean liner, with sisterships Adventure OTS , Explorer OTS , Mariner OTS , Voyager OTS .

The vessel (IMO number 9227508) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 311478000) and registered in Nassau .

History - construction and ownership

Royal Caribbean International (RCI) is a US passenger shipping company, trademarked travel brand and subsidiary owned by Royal Caribbean Group (RCG/shipowner). RCI was established in 1968 and currently has over 1/5 of the worldwide cruise market. RCI also has RCG's largest fleet by both vessel number and GT tonnage (ship sizes and capacities).

All RCI liners have names ending with "of the Seas".

Navigator Of The Seas cruise ship (Royal Caribbean)

The 3400-passenger ship Navigator OTS, like the sisterships, features some of the industry's most unique facilities - like a Rock-Climbing Wall, Ice-Skating Rink, indoor Promenade street, large sports complex, in-line Skating Track.

As a second-generation (modified) Voyager-class ship, Navigator OTS has a larger Windjammer buffet area with the Asian "Jade" and "The Plaza" bar. The first generation Voyager-class ships metal-walled balconies are here replaced with glass railings. Navigator OTS features more glass exteriors, wine bar, expanded youth amenities, Plaza Bar zone (with dining venues / both complimentary and at a fee), first at sea Latin Jazz Bar, first at sea Ben and Jerry's ice-cream parlor. Later, RCI spread these concepts fleetwide.

Decks and Cabins

Navigator Of The Seas staterooms (1674 total, in 34 grades) include 119 Suites, 671 Balcony, 232 OceanView, 138 Promenade View, 514 Inside (including Virtual Balcony). Most cabins are sized 150-160 ft2 (14-15 m2). Most cabin balconies are sized 50 ft2 (5 m2). The largest is Royal Suite (1090 ft2 / 101 m2 plus 215 ft2 / 20 m2 terrace with Jacuzzi). Wheelchair-accessible cabins are 27.

The boat has 15 decks , of which 14 are passenger-accessible and 9 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Eating options aboard Navigator OTS were expanded during ship's 2014 refurbishment. The line added Sabor - a Mexican restaurant, and Izumi Japanese Cuisine - Asian-fusion eatery. The Italian Portofino was replaced with a new family-style option called Giovanni's Table. Longtime Royal Caribbean's steakhouse Chops Grille features a revamped menu including premium steak options. The 3-level main dining room was consolidated under one name, the Sapphire and redesigned - now decorated in golds and whites, with a grand staircase, dark carpeting, white linens, and a dramatic chandelier. Reservations are recommended for the speciality restaurants. Guests can make reservations online (up to 4 days prior to the cruise) for parties of up to 6, or once onboard at reservation tables outside the Windjammer buffet, by calling guest services or at the restaurants themselves.

Follows the complete list of Navigator of the Seas restaurants and food bars.

  • Sapphire (735-seat aft Dining Room with fixed seating for Dinner)

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

At night, Navigator of the Seas offers traditional-style productions (singing and dancing shows) presented in The Royal Theatre. Bar venues offer various musical performances aimed to please everybody at any time with classical guitar, jazz, and country. Beyond the usual, where this cruise vessel excels is unique, like Studio B ice rink which hosts "Ice Dancing" - worth the effort to get a ticket (free of charge but the venue is tiny, so tickets are limited). The Royal Promenade on some nights comes alive with street entertainment. New to the ship after the refurbishment is the signature R Bar, which replaced the Champagne Bar located on Deck 5, outside the Promenade. This is a very popular gathering spot for pre- and post-dinner exotic cocktails, mixed by using various techniques.

The RCI's enhanced Adventure Ocean youth program is hosted in a redesigned playground space. With trained staff and RCI's award-winning kids programming, the contemporary concept offers activities organized by interests. The teen areas sport updates via the redesigned teen-only laidback hangout, Living Room, as well as a "hidden" entrance and outdoor deck serving up nothing but chill vibes.

Navigator Of The Seas Wiki

Navigator is one of Royal Caribbean's Voyager-class liners, with sisterhips Adventure , Explorer , Mariner , Voyager . Voyager-class Royal Caribbean vessels were all built in Finland by shipbuilder Kvaerner Masa-Yards. This company was later acquired by STX Europe (part of STX Corporation, South Korea).

Navigator Of The Seas cruise ship (Royal Caribbean)

The ship's godmother is Stefanie Maria Graf/Steffi Graf (1969-born German tennis player). The naming ceremony was held on December 6, 2002. Steffi Graf has 107 singles titles and is 3rd in the WTA chart - after Martina Navratilova (167 titles) and Chris Evert (157 titles). RCI Navigator's Maiden Voyage left on December 14th.

Navigator OTS refurbishment 2024 review

In 2024-Q1, the ship has a scheduled 8-week drydocking stay in Singapore (March 8 through April tba).

The project was mainly for routine technical maintenance (machinery overhaul, classification works, minor repairs/steel works) as well as general hotel upkeep - updates to some public areas and passenger staterooms (carpeting, new upholstery, walling).

Navigator OTS refurbishment 2019 review

During drydock refurbishment in 2019 (January 5 - February 23), the ship was Royal Amplified at the cost of USD 115 million. The grandiose project resulted in the following changes:

  • On Sports Deck 13, RCI's waterslides "Cyclone" and "Typhoon" (Perfect Storm aqua park) were installed (next to the FlowRider simulator).
  • On Spa Deck 12 (aft), the "Slashaway Bay" kids aqua park was added. This is an interactive water play area (with cannons and geysers), replacing the old Outdoor Youth Area (aka "back deck").

Following the refit, the vessel now has some unique new facilities currently not available on other RCI ships.

  • In addition to "Perfect Storm", a new water coaster (trademarked as "The Blaster") and a new headfirst mat racing slide (trademarked as "Riptide") were also installed. RCI trademarked both names in September 2018.
  • The Blaster aqua coaster has length 244 m (800 ft) - ranking it the longest at sea 2-person raft slide.
  • The Riptide mat racing waterslide features a transparent tube.

Also new for the fleet is "To Dry For" - new blow-dry bar (specializing in quick beauty fixes/hairstyling) and also serving champagnes and wines by the glass. "To Dry For" was trademarked in July 2018.

The list of other new venues and activities includes:

  • Lime and Coconut (2-level bar lounge with live music)
  • Bamboo Room (bar lounge)
  • Johnny Rockets Express (fleet's first)
  • Playmakers Sports Bar and Arcade (with "Owner's Box" VIP room)
  • Starbucks Bar (specialty drinks and pastries)
  • new restaurants (El Loco Fresh, Jamie's Italian, Hooked Seafood)
  • The Observatorium (Royal Escape Room)
  • Battle for Planet Z (laser tag course at Studio B)
  • redesigned Mini-Golf Course

We know you like to plan ahead, so before you set sail, know what is happening onboard your ship. To help the like-minded cruise planners among us, we just uploaded the Navigator of the Seas 3 Day Cruise Compass from our Bahamas and Perfect Day Cruise from August 2019.

If you are not familiar with Royal Caribbean ships, during each day of your voyage, a list of daily activities and events is provided in a small, magazine-like handout known as the Cruise Compass.

Navigator of the Seas 3 Day Cruise Compass

Our Navigator of the Seas 3 Day Bahamas and Perfect Day Cruise Compass details all of the dining hours for restaurants, entertainment and show times, onboard sales and retail hours, as well as parties and bar hours. The itinerary included embarkation day, Day 2 at Royal Caribbean’s private island of CocoCay, Bahamas, and Day 3 in Nassau, Bahamas.

Below, you can view PDF copies of the Cruise Compass. You can also use this link to download the cruise compass . The file is quite large, so give it a minute to download.

Navigator of the Seas 3 Day Cruise Compass Highlights

-During our cruise, the Perfect Storm Waterslides were open on embarkation day from 11:30 am to 8 pm (closed for muster) and were open on Day 3 from 10:30 am to 8 pm.

-Unfortunately, the new Laser Tag game was only open on Day 2 from 4:30 pm to 8 pm. On Day 3, Studio B opened for ice skating from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, and again from 9:30 pm to 11:30 pm.

-In the Royal Theater on Deck 4, there was a nightly production show or headliner, usually with two show times to accommodate each dinner seating. There was also a late night comedy show that occurred on the last evening of the cruise.

Navigator of the Seas 3 Day Cruise Compass

-Live music was found throughout the ship. This included live piano music in the Schooner Bar, pub guitar favorites in the Copper and Clover, and Latin dance music in Boleros. There was also karaoke during the cruise on Deck 14 in the Cosmopolitan Club.

-Each night, there was a themed party. These included both a 70’s and 80’s party in the Royal Promenade and the Red Ultimate Dance Club Experience in Studio B on Day 2.

-On the second night of the cruise, the popular X versus Y game show and the Quest occurred in Studio B as well.

Navigator of the Seas Size and Passengers

The Navigator of the Seas can hold 3,386 based on double occupancy (two people per room) and more when you take into account 3rd and 4th passengers. When you compare the total tonnage of the ship to the number of passengers, the Navigator of the Seas has a space ratio of 41. Depending on the ship, this number can range from 30 to 52 (with a bigger number meaning more space per person) so this ship's space-to-person ratio is about average.

The Navigator of the Seas is one of five Voyager-class ships currently sailing with Royal Caribbean. The Voyager-class ships were the first to introduce the Royal Promenade, a large central hub that runs through the middle of the ship, offering shopping, restaurants, bars, and activities. It also saw the introduction of the Studio B Ice Skating Rink and a climbing wall onboard. The Navigator of the Seas is very similar to its sister-ships; Voyager of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas, although each ship may have some differences.

Navigator of the Seas Food and Restaurants

Chefs Table on the Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas

Food is a big part of any cruise, and there will plenty on the Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas. You have 11 different dining options to choose from. Of those options, 4 are complementary, or included with your cruise fare. The other 7 options have an additional fee. Some of those options are a set price and some have a la cart menu pricing. Only 36% of the dining options are included meaning you might spend more while on the ship due to the additional fees.

Navigator of the Seas Bars and Drinks

Royal Caribbean's Star Lounge

Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas has 11 different bars and lounges where you can enjoy a beer or cocktail. It also has 1 other bars that are available for select guests.

Alcohol is not included in the base price of this cruise ship. To see if you would save money with a drink package, try our Drink Package Calculator.

Royal Caribbean also serves the Coca-cola family of products. That means Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite and Barqs Root Beer, although the selection can vary by ship. Most Royal Caribbean ships also have Coke Freestyle machines where you can make 100 different flavor combinations.

Pools and Hot Tubs on Navigator of the Seas

Caribbean Themed Main Pool Area on the Navigator of the Seas

Nothing beats relaxing by a pool with a nice drink in hand as you feel the fresh sea breeze pass by you. The problem is that with thousands of people on a ship, there's not always room. If you want to spend all day in a pool, a cruise might not be the right choice. You would have a much better bet choosing a resort with a huge pool complex. That being said, a quick dip in the pool can be nice on a hot day.

The Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas has a total of 3 pools and 6 hot tubs.

Tired of loud kids and splashing? 1 of the pools and 2 of the hot tubs are adults only.

There are quite a few things to do on the Navigator of the Seas. These are the main amenities that are available. Some are included in the cost of the cruise, while others have an additional charge.

Royal Caribbean is a mainstream cruise line. Mainstream cruise lines cater to a variety of guests, hoping to provide something for everyone. These typically cost about $100 - $350 per person per day.

Cruise pricing is dynamic and varies for each specific sailing based on factors such as departure point, ports of call, and time of year.

Navigator of the Seas Onboard Costs

Another way to gauge the cost of a cruise is to consider how much you'll spend on board. Even though a lot is included in the base cruise fare, you may still spend money on things like spa treatments, specialty dining, drinks, and excursions. In addition, guests can also have to pay for things like gratuities and tips.

Typically guests can expect to spend about 25 - 40% of the cost of the cruise on onboard expenses. In other words, if the cruise fare is $1,000 per person, you might spend between $250 and $400 on extra expenses.

The table below will help you understand what you might spend onboard a Royal Caribbean ship.

Royal Caribbean uses dynamic pricing, which means the pricing for many things will vary per sailing. The daily gratuities and tip are consistent across the fleet, but the pricing for the drink package, internet, and excursions will change. The only way to know your price is to consult the Royal Caribbean cruise planner once you're booked.

This was a good cruise. Ensenada was ok to visit, but the The La Bufadora was not as exciting as we thought it would be and it was a long walk to get to it

Fabulous Ensenada Get-Away

Feb 20th, 2024

Fabulous Cruise, would go on another one. Would tone down the volume of concerts in the main hall, have more seating in the hallway for concerts.

Corporate doesn’t care about the customer experience

Feb 19th, 2024

Although, our Royal Caribbean Cruise, for our multiple generations over New Years was not all bad, the cons very far exceeded the pros. We cruised multiple times as our children were growing up and loved it as a family. We haven’t cruised in 10 years and have now learned that things have changed a lot. Prior to booking I had read online reviews that ‘everything was an upcharge’. This turned out to be a real issue and, along with the crowds, lines, lines, and more lines, diminished the enjoyment factor for our family. First the pro’s: - [ ] The people - room and dining staff were truly outstanding. - [ ] We had three cabins - each cabin steward was excellent - attentive, charming, and informative. Aldrin and Sheldon took care of our cabins which were always immaculate. - [ ] Our staff in the dining room Handi and IGede were also outstanding. So attentive to the children and adults in our party. One of us is vegan and another allergic to shellfish, they kept this is mind with every meal. They warmly welcomed us by name each evening and were ever present and made us feel like we didn’t want to miss a meal with them. We felt like cherished guests, not just the passengers of the week. Could not have been better. - [ ] Singing numbers performed by the dining staff from 90 different countries was very entertaining. - [ ] The food was surprisingly good for a cruise ship and we did not regret deciding to avoid one of the many up charges of dining in a speciality restaurant. - [ ] Early dining conflicted with a number of family events and was impossible to get to on days that we were in port. - [ ] Also, ship-sponsored family-oriented events in the early evening often conflicted with early dining and were not repeated again. - [ ] Open buffet was good, not great. The con’s - [ ] Spa - we had pre-booked. During our appointments they suggested alternative services which replaced the pre-book price. The 30% pre-book discount was not honored and we we not informed until after the service when the charges mounted up. - [ ] We had scheduled blow outs on the formal night. The blow out for the first person in our party took so long that the others could not be completed. Just one of many examples where relaxation was replaced with rushing to meet compressed timelines - [ ] Too few pool and spa areas for the number of passengers. Like from an overpopulation sci-fi movie, standing room only. Literally, in super-spreader fashion, passengers were standing side by side in both the pool and spa. - [ ] Don’t waste your money on the KEY upgrade. Only six activities on 2 out of 8 days had 1/2 hour blocks where KEY activities had priority. Total waste of money. - [ ] Impossible to find the Key area for preferred seating at the shows. - [ ] There is a KEY preferred departure feature but that wasn’t clear until late the day before departure. We had checked with the service desk earlier in the week and they were worthless in providing this information to help plan for a smooth, coordinated departure for our family/party of eight. - [ ] No KEY line for boarding on the first day nor any in port days - even though this was a feature listed for this up charge. - [ ] Kids don’t really sale free. Although there was no footnote that some dates were excluded, our Xmas vacation break cruise charged full price for the 8 and 9 year olds in our party. Had I known that when booking, I would have put one child and one adult in a cabin - rather than four sardines in a one cabin. - [ ] Not easy to see the time. This is more important than you might think with all the fixed times for excursion departures and meal times. We had four time zone changes in 8 days, the digital maps on each level/floor and other postings in the elevators didn’t have the times showing or the upcoming changes posted. In fact, we had to call the operator from our room at least 10 times during the trip to check, and half the time received misinformation. Just one of many examples of the poor effort by corporate to put customer experience first. - [ ] 35 - 40% of the treadmills were broken in the gym throughout the cruise. - [ ] Walking track above pool deck was very poorly designed and actually was an obstacle course. Walking between deck lounges shared with guest coming from the spa and pool made for wet treacherous walking. Also, having to try to navigate around other guests just standing on the track, as it was next to their lounge chairs, was frustrating to the point that we didn’t want walk on the track. - [ ] Formal attire nights were switched without clarity creating additional uncertainty and stress. Again, public announcements were frequently ill-informed/wrong. - [ ] Intercom messages from captain and cruise director stopped playing in our room after the first two days, this adding to the information gap and diminishing our experience. - [ ] Had to print luggage tags prior to getting on ship. These could have been mailed. - [ ] We had pre-purchased arcade credits for our grandchildren. We didn’t spend even 50% given the small size/variety of the arcade combined with 50% of the games being out of order. They were not fixed during the voyage and more games broke throughout the week. Image a very small space located in a sequestered area that felt like a basement (not a place to consider leaving small children unsupervised) with mostly outdated and broken equipment. Unfortunately, we realized later that we had booked an older ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet. However, we would not have expected so many things to be in disrepair. Clearly, considering the bait and switch kids sail free issue, all the up-charges, among the many other issues mentioned, this would be an absolute cannot recommend cruise line to ever consider again. Clearly, and unfortunately for our family, this is not the same quality cruise line that we had traveled in years past.

Very nice ship

Feb 13th, 2024

It was a great time. The ship has so many things to do. There is something on almost every floor. Sit down by the pool or get in and meet some new friends. If you need anything just ask. Make sure to get off and look around at each port you stop at. Mazatlan has really good margaritas and if you go to town follow the blue line on the street and it will take you there and back. Try some birria tacos, ceviche and get some fruit. The papaya was so sweet and delicious.

We had a wonderful family cruise. It's great to have a variety of things that different people can do. And then all have dinner together at night. We'll definitely do this again!

R.I.P. Cruise Compass on Navigator of the Seas

Cool Cruiser

We've been on Navigator for the last 3 cruises and we usually stopped by Guest Services in the evening to get a Cruise Compass for the next day.  Just like to have a printed copy to look at.  When we picked one up on Saturday night for yesterday, the last day of the cruise, we were told it's the last one to be printed on Navigator.  From now on just the app.

I'm waiting for the "but not everyone has a smart phone" crowd.  But, this is news as no one else has reported it so far.

Sunshine3601

I am definitely old school and enjoy having the compass arrive in my cabin the night before.    Sure I use the app but prefer the print out.

With so few sailing on the west coast will anyone really notice?

Just joking!

I think waste reduction is a good thing

Thanks

ownedbypets

I read it every night but it does end up in the garbage by the end of the cruise.

Hey I graduate up to D+ this summer on Navigator. Don't you jinx it!

fliprcruiser

Currently on the Allure, and they are discontinued here as well.

I'm VERY disappointed with this news...there should still be a choice !!

For me it's not a matter of not having a smart phone.  It's more that I like not carrying my phone around.

They tried this on Grandeur too but there have been so many complaints ( mostly about not knowing what the dress code was for the evening… let’s be honest it isn’t in the most obvious place in the app!) they they are being handed out again.

DH does not have a smart phone and does use the compass every day.  It will be a pain to get him to use my smart phone.  However, I can see this is a positive for the planet.  However, I will pitch a fit if I still get all of the other printed $hi@.  [i.e. art auction, chocolate diamond sales, etc.]

I agree there should be a choice.  Keep a number of print outs at GS and you have to pick them up if you are old school.

Cigar King

I prefer to get my news on clay tablets the way the good Lord intended the written word to be disseminated.

Next on the agenda ... waist reduction.  Limit of 3 meals per day.

Moses ended that 😉

My husband and I both have smart phones, but not interested in using the app or carrying my phone around on a ship.

Fortunately, I'm not cruising until October, so hopefully enough people complain and by then they will give us a choice.  I will happily go to the front desk to pick up a printed copy.

I hope in the quest to reduce paper they also stop with the junk mail that immediately goes in the trash in our cabin.

If they don't send the Compass, I definitely don't want any Spa, Art Auction or $10 sale hand outs

Had 5 or 6 on sailing day, laundry service. Casino classes, mini bar stocking,, sailing day only pricing, art auction, couple others I had no interest in.

Remember that the junk mail is for outsourced vendors (spa, art auction, onboard shops) and most likely print / distribution is part of Royal's revenue stream.

molly361

On the Mariner 2 weeks ago no Compass unless you went to GS to get one.  On the Indy last week one was delivered every day

Will complain to GS and on survey if they are discontinued.  We are on Jewel in April.  I keep them, scan them into my computer before recycling.  I've gone back to them when someone has a question.  Also is not as clear or obvious as to what's happening or where things are located.

They were still using them on Celebrity a few months ago.  I have no issues using the App, BUT it's just not the same as sitting out on the balcony with the Compass and highlighting everything that I don't want to miss.  I will definitely miss having it.

Still getting it nightly on the Symphony.
