CROMWELL, Conn (AP) — Growing up in New England, Keegan Bradley says he wasn’t invited to the big junior events that youngsters from Florida got to play.
That made it all the more special for the Vermont native to win in front of a New England crowd.
Despite a shaky finish, which he said came from the nerves of wanting so badly to win, the 37-year-old broke the tournament record at the Travelers Championship on Sunday for his sixth tour victory.
Bradley closed with a 2-under 68 to finish three shots ahead of Zac Blair, who shot 62, and Brian Harman, who closed with a 64.
“This is for all the kids, like me, that grew up in winters and can’t play and would watch the kids from Florida, down South get better, compete, and get invited to the biggest tournaments in the country that I was never invited to,” he said. “I hope that they know that they can come from this area ... and still make it in golf.”
Bradley, who went 62-63-64 in the first three rounds, finished at 23-under 257 at TPC River Highlands, a shot better than Kenny Perry’s previous record from 2009.
With fans chanting his name, the 37-year-old walked up to his ball on the 18th green, sank a 2-foot par putt and threw his arms into the air and let out a yell.
“I can’t even describe what that felt like,” Bradley said. “I dreamt my whole life of playing in Fenway Park, Gillette Stadium, and to feel pretty close to what that would feel like. I had a bunch of people say they never heard the 18th hole sound like that.”
Bradley had only made one bogey for the week before dropping three shots in his final six holes as the nerves seemed to get to him. This was the first PGA Tour event he attended, and the one he said he most wanted to win, other than the majors. This was his second victory this season; he won the Zozo Championship in Japan in October.
Bradley birdied the par-4 12th hole to move for 5 under for the day and take a six-shot lead. But he sliced his tee shot into the water on the next hole, leading to bogey. He also bogeyed the 14th and 16th holes.
He settled down with a par on the 17th to all but guarantee himself a triumphant walk up the last hole.
“I played great until the last like five or six holes and luckily I had a big enough lead to coast home,” Bradley said.
He became the first New Englander to win the title since Connecticut’s J.J. Henry in 2006.
Bradley moved to seventh in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings; the top six qualify for the team, with captain Zach Johnson getting six picks. He said that was the first thing he mentioned to his wife as they were walking off the course.
“I still have a lot to show the captain and I would love to go to Rome and be a part of the team,” he said.
Bradley takes home $3.6 million from an elevated $20 million purse as the tournament became one of 17 designated events on tour this season, attracting a world-class field including world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm. Bradley’s earnings this season have topped $8.5 million.
Blair had his best finish on tour. The 32-year-old from Utah has been playing on a major medical exemption after missing almost two full years with a torn labrum.
“Basically, I went from playing 18 or 36 holes every day for the last seven, eight years to not touching a club for five, six, seven months,” he said. “It was cool, though. Got to hang out with my family and build a golf course and do a lot of other fun stuff. But, it’s obviously cooler to shoot 62 on Sunday.”
Blair had back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 4 and 5, then went on a tear with six birdies and an eagle on the par-5 13th, where he hit his approach from 253 yards inside 5 feet.
Harman shot his second straight 64.
Patrick Cantlay, who shot 61 on Saturday to get within five strokes of the leaders, made a run at Bradley with three straight birdies from Nos. 13-15. But he overshot the 16th green, leading to bogey, and lipped out his birdie try on the 17th. He shot 67 to finish four shots back alongside Scheffler (65) and 2019 champion Chez Reavie (71), who began the day one shot behind Bradley but did not make a birdie until the 14th hole.
McIlroy shot 64 and finished at 18 under after making an early charge. He birdied five of his first seven holes in front of galleries that were four or five fans deep.
But he gave a shot back on the ninth after his 352-yard drive settled next to a boundary fence in deep rough. He then missed an 8-foot birdie putt on No. 12.
The TPC River Highlands gave up eight rounds of 62 or better this week.
“I don’t particularly like when a tournament is like this,” McIlroy said. “Unfortunately, technology has passed this course by, right? It sort of has made it obsolete, especially as soft as it has been with a little bit of rain that we had.”
U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, who beat McIlroy by a shot last week at Los Angeles Country Club, shot 66 and finished in a tie for 29th at 12 under.

English outlasts Hickok in 8-hole playoff to win Travelers
Matched the 2nd-longest sudden-death playoff in pga tour history.
Social Sharing
Harris English birdied the eighth hole of sudden death to win the Travelers Championship on Sunday, beating Kramer Hickok after both birdied the final hole of regulation to force the playoff.
It matched the second-longest sudden-death playoff in PGA Tour history.
English shot a 5-under 65 to finish the fourth round at 13 under, then made a 16-foot putt on the seventh trip down the 18th hole of the day. Hickok had missed a 36-foot birdie putt and finished the playoff with eight consecutive pars.
The tour record for a sudden death playoff is 11 holes in the 1949 Motor City Open, when Lloyd Mangrum and Cary Middlecoff were declared co-winners by mutual agreement due to darkness; four other events have reached an eighth playoff hole.
- LEADERBOARD: Travelers Championship
The eight-hole playoff was a record for the tournament, which went seven holes in 1961 (Ted Kroll) and again in '62 (Bob Goalby), when it was known as the Insurance City Open.
It was the second win this year and the fourth career victory for English, who finished third at the U.S. Open last week — and fourth in the pandemic-delayed U.S. Open in September. He won $1,368,000 and 500 FedEx Cup points, moving into second in the standings.
English sank a 28-footer on the 72nd hole to emerge from a three-way tie and finish at 13 under. Then he headed to the range to stay warm in case Hickock, who was minus-12 with two holes to play, could catch him.

The 29-year-old Texan, who had never won on the PGA Tour, couldn't convert a 39-foot birdie putt on the 17th, but he knocked in a nine-footer for birdie on No. 18 to match English.
They played 18 again — twice — and parred it again — twice. On to No. 17, then 18, then 17, then 18, then 18 again: All pars. Hickok lipped out on two long birdie putts that would have won it; on the sixth playoff hole, English missed a seven-foot birdie putt to win.
On the final trip down the 438-yard par 4, Hickok put his second shot 28 feet from the pin and two-putted. English landed his approach 16 feet away and made birdie.
- Nelly Korda claims 1st major title, moves to world No. 1 with win at Women's PGA Championship
Hickok has never won on the PGA Tour. The second-place finish was his best ever, topping a tie for eighth in the 2018 Bermuda Championship that was his only other time in the top 10.
Four players were tied at 12 under after Bubba Watson bogeyed the 14th. But the three-time Travelers winner played the last five holes at six over to drop out of the chase.
"I'm glad that I was there, had the opportunity," Watson said. "You know, I would love to do it again next week, throw up on myself again. It would it be great. I want to the opportunity and the chance to win."
Watson's collapse left Hickok — his 54-hole co-leader —- on top at 12 under with English and Marc Leishman, who had finished his round with a 64 two hours earlier.
English finished the fourth round birdie-bogey-birdie, skipping after the ball and pumping his fist after the final hole of regulation. Hickok's celebration was even more emphatic.
But there was still a playoff to come.
- Jon Rahm closes with 2 birdies to win U.S. Open for 1st career major
Leishman won the tournament in 2012, shooting a 62 on Sunday to come from six strokes behind and earn his first career victory on the tour. This year, he shot 64 in the final round and was the leader in the clubhouse for several hours at 12 under but settled for third.
With plenty of low scores Sunday and all of the leaders still on the course, he sensed it wasn't enough.
"Nice to make a run and be around the lead," said Leishman, who did head out to the range to warm up before English took his place. "Not holding my breath, but I won't be going anywhere."
Abraham Ancer (65) was fourth at minus-11. Kevin Kisner had his second 63 of the tournament — along with a 70 and a 74 — to tie for fifth at 10 under with Brooks Koepka (65) and three others.
A top-five finish would have moved Dustin Johnson back to the No. 1 spot in the world. But the defending champion shot 71 on Sunday to tied for 25th at 6 under.

When eight was enough
Harris English becomes an instant Travelers legend after the playoff that wouldn’t end
CROMWELL, Conn. — It carried on so long that the standard bearer tapped out. The simple task of carrying a scoreboard that read ENGLISH -13 and HICKOK -13 had become downright exhausting. He’d been working overtime for 90 minutes, and five extra holes proved to be his breaking point. Neither man would miss a par putt and neither man would make a birdie putt, and so he sought reinforcements because my goodness, this thing may never end.
However, a merciful finish seemed imminent right after our scoreboard-carrying friend called it quits. Kramer Hickok had blown his birdie effort a good 12 feet by, and Harris English had six feet for his birdie. So, of course, Hickok holed his and English’s missed meekly on the low side. Back to the 18th tee. Again.
Remember, back in the old days of regulation, when both men birdied the 18th to get into this god forsaken playoff in the first place, English closing out a 65, Hickok a 67? Couldn’t one of them just do that again, this being the seventh extra hole? There’s a witty line there somewhere about seven being a lucky number, and seven being the hole that would save us, but witty lines went out the window four holes ago. We’re in full stream-of-consciousness mode. Oh, and both guys just made par. They always make par.
MORE: Here’s the prize money payout for each golfer at the Travelers Championship
The summer solstice happened five days ago, yet suddenly there was a fear that these two still might run out of daylight. The fans didn’t know what to do with their hands so they’re raising them in unison, a tired, drunk, half-ass wave. Any semblance of impartiality had gone out the window, and suddenly this is a Kramer Hickok home game. Kramer! Kramer! Kramer! If you’re wondering when we’re going to divulge who actually won this thing—well, we waited forever and now you have to as well.
Aaaaaand that’s enough. You have a Mr. Harris English to thank.
English finally— freakin’ finally —got a birdie to fall on the eighth playoff hole at TPC River Highlands to cap off an unforgettable (and interminable) Travelers Championship. It was the second-longest playoff in PGA Tour history; the only one that dragged on longer, the 1949 Motor City Open, ended after 11 holes when fed-up tournament organizers deemed Lloyd Mangrum and Cary Middlecoff mutual winners.
“Kind of sorry it took seven or eight holes,” English said. It was eight, for the record, but apology accepted.
“It was tough. It was tough. I mean, my hamstrings were getting tired, my back was getting tired. I know Kramer was probably feeling the same thing. It’s hard to stay mentally into it and not lose focus. The fans were keeping us in this, getting the juice from them.”
Kramer Hickok was in a battle not only for his first career PGA Tour win, but just to keep his card for next season.
Michael Reaves
English now has four PGA Tour wins and, with his W in Hawaii to begin 2021, he becomes just the fifth player to win multiple times in this wraparound season, A career renaissance that began 21 months ago with a T-3 in West Virginia has officially reached a new gear—English is no longer a feel-good, inspirational tale of overcoming a slump and reclaiming your game. That was the story when he won in paradise in January, his first victory in seven years, but he’s played his way out of the charming underdog role.
That happens when you’re a constant presence near the top of leader boards. English briefly held the final-round lead two weeks ago at Congaree. He tip-toed his way to a solo third at last week’s U.S. Open after finishing T-4 in last year’s U.S. Open. With Sunday’s victory, he’s now projected to reach a career-high 12th in the World Ranking, and he sits firmly in the Ryder Cup picture and on the precipice of full-blown stardom.
“This is a validation win. It took me seven years to win in Maui, and I think this is validation of where my game is right now. The Ryder Cup is where I want to play… that’s what I miss about playing golf at the University of Georgia. I miss that team atmosphere, and that’s the pinnacle of our sport, to represent your country and play in one of the biggest tournaments in the world.”
MORE: The clubs Harris English used to win the Travelers Championship
As for Hickok, the temptation is to portray this as a heartbreaking defeat. Truth is, this was the best day of his professional life. Coming into this week, the 29-year-old had two PGA Tour top-10s to his name, and both came in opposite-field events. This was his first time anywhere near contention on tour, playing in the final group alongside honorary Hartford resident Bubba Watson—who squandered a chance for a fourth Travelers title by playing his last five holes in six over par. All Hickok did was birdie the 18th hole to get into a playoff.
“I learned that I belong,” Hickok said. “I just looked at it like it was a privilege. I just wanted to enjoy it and just take it like it is. I was just so happy to be in this situation, and I'm just going to draw on this going forward in my career and just hopefully learn a lot from it.”
As the playoff went on and on, fans became more boisterous at TPC River Highlands.
Hickok should’ve been shaking in his boots and nervous as hell when he arrived at the 18th tee for the first extra hole. Only he could not stop smiling. The hard part was already done—Hickok had locked up a solo second at worst, which meant 300 FedEx Cup points, which meant he’d essentially locked up his spot on the Big Tour for at least another season after starting the day 139th on the FedEx Cup points list. The playoff? Gravy.
So, so, sooooo much gravy.
MORE: Takeaways from a crazy Sunday at the Travelers Championship
On the first playoff hole, English holed a six-footer for par.
On the second playoff hole, Hickok’s 50-footer looked destined for the bottom, only to wiggle left and kiss the hole on its way by. English then got up-and-down from a plugged lie in the front bunker.
On the third playoff hole, TPC River Highland’s 17th, both men holed testers for par after racing their birdie putts by.
On the fourth playoff hole, back at 18, it was Kramer’s turn to get up-and-down from that front bunker.
On the fifth playoff hole, back to 17, Kramer’s birdie effort to end it once again caught the lip, and English hearted a six-footer for par.
On the sixth playoff hole, back at 18—well, we already talked about that one.
On the seventh playoff hole, we’re at 18 permanently now, they traded routine pars.
After the eighth playoff hole, they rested.

Keegan Bradley Survives Late Wobble To Win Travelers Championship
The hometown hero set a new tournament record to win by three at TPC River Highlands
- Sign up to Golf Monthly Newsletter Newsletter
Keegan Bradley survived a late scare to win the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands and set a new tournament scoring record.
Bradley had never converted a 54-hole lead or co-lead on the PGA Tour in four previous attempts but put that right as he mixed five birdies with three late bogeys in a round of 68 to finish 23-under and win by three from Zac Blair and Brian Harman.
The 2011 PGA champion began the day one clear of Chez Reavie and extended that advantage to six shots with six to play before three bogeys in four holes briefly opened the door to Patrick Cantlay .
But the 37-year-old hometown hero was able to hang on, finishing par-par to secure the $3.6 million first prize and put himself in contention for a Ryder Cup spot.
An emotional Bradley said: "This is for all the kids who grew up in New England, who had to sit through the winters and watch other people play golf. I'm just so proud to win this tournament.
"Travelers and everybody involved puts on such a first-class tournament and it's been like this for a decade. I'm so happy to have my family here, they're my lucky charm and I love them so much.
"I'm so lucky to be from this New England area. This feels like a dream."
Blair finished in a tie for second on 20-under after a superb closing 62. The American is playing on a medical exemption following a string of injuries and looks set to regain his full card with his strong showing.
He was joined on that mark by Harman, with Cantlay, Scottie Scheffler and Chez Reavie a shot further back in a tie for fourth.
World No. 1 Scheffler continued his run of top-12s, which amazingly stretches back to the end of October last year.
Rory McIlroy had it going early and looked like he might threaten a sub-60 round when he fired in five birdies in his first seven holes. A bogey on the short par-4 ninth stalled his progress but the closing 64 earned him a T-7 finish just seven days on from his US Open heartache.

Hello and welcome
TPC River Highlands is the venue for the final round of the 2023 Travelers Championship. Keegan Bradley leads by one from Chez Reavie with Patrick Cantlay a further four behind. Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott, Justin Thomas and Scottie Scheffler are also in the mix should the leaders falter.
Rory McIlroy began nine behind and is already out on the course, having picked up his first birdie of the day at the short par-4 second. The scoring has been incredibly low all week, so expect another birdie-fest as players battle it out for the latest PGA Tour designated event.
The final pairing are out at 1.55pm local time (6.55pm BST).
List showing what's capable
Eight birdies in a nine-hole stretch have Luke List at 14-under. He's seven-under for the day with two to play and showing the leaders what is capable out there today.
JT and Scheffler underway
The former World No. 1 and current World No. 1 get their final rounds underway. Both are seven back so will need to go mega low today to have a shot of winning. However, for Thomas it's already been a great week after a disastrous US Open in which he missed the cut after a second-round 81.
As for Scheffler, he is on course for another strong finish to add to his ridiculously consistent season.
The pair hit pretty poor opening tee shots, with Thomas well left and Scheffler well right.
McIlroy on the move
Right at it 🎯@McIlroyRory grabs his second birdie of the day on No. 4 @TravelersChamp. pic.twitter.com/obaRkOz31R June 25, 2023
McIlroy gets off to the perfect start, making his second birdie of the day at the fourth to get to -14.
McIlroy charging
Developing situation - my laptop is being a riot. It's back up and running for now, though.
As for the golf, it's now four birdies in six for McIlroy, who gets to -16 with a four at the par-5 sixth. He really is unbelievable to watch in full flow.
Elsewhere, Scheffler birdies the second to get to -15.
Leaders off
Everyone is now on the course for this final round. Both Bradley and Reavie find fairway and green at the first so will have birdie putts upcoming.
Thomas bogeys, final group hold station
A bogey at the fourth takes Thomas back to -14 after an earlier birdie. Alongside JT, Scheffler makes par but still trails Bradley by six.
The final group have made a quiet start to the day, both opening with two pars.
McIlroy bogeys
Expect Twitter to explode, Rory McIlroy has taken a drop. He pulls his tee shot on the short par-4 ninth and it's tight to a boundary fence.
The graphic says he's playing his third, meaning he's taken a penalty drop, and he leaves himself a long putt for par. He can't get it to fall and drops to -16. Very costly.
Bradley extends lead
The leader rolls in a 12-footer on the third for his first birdie of the day to get to -22 and two clear of Reavie.
Ahead, Scheffler hits a stunning tee shot to the par-3 fifth and misses from four feet. The story of his season.
Bradley goes back-to-back
“Be good.” It was.@Keegan_Bradley extends his lead to three @TravelersChamp 💪 pic.twitter.com/LOT24YCeIn June 25, 2023
A sublime second into the fourth sets up another birdie for Bradley, who all of a sudden leads by three from his playing partner.
McIlroy hits a good tee shot into the par-3 11th to get back to -17. He needs to make that and reignite his charge to have a chance.
Birdie for Rory
McIlroy converts for birdie on the 11th to get back to -17 after he dropped a shot on the ninth. If he birdies in he might have a chance.
In the final group, Reavie misses from 5ft for par at the fifth to slip to -19 so Bradley's lead is four.
Women's PGA Championship restarts
In other news, after a lengthy weather delay, the final round of the KPMG Women's PGA Championship is back underway. Leona Maguire led at the start of the day but now trails Jenny Shin and Xiyu Lin by one.
What of the chasing pack?
Here's a round-up of some selected other scores:
-15 Schauffele, Thomas, Scott, Fowler -14 Lowry, Matsuyama -13 Scheffler -12 Hovland, Im -10 Finau -8 Fitzpatrick
Potential weather delay upcoming
There is some inclement weather in the vicinity of TPC River Highlands so there could be an interruption to the action soon. I'll keep you posted.
Bradley in command
Bradley finds the par-5 sixth in two and two-putts for another simple birdie. He's now -24 and making this look easy.
Can Reavie respond? No, his birdie putt slips by the right edge and he's now five behind. It's Bradley's to lose.
Blair eagles to get to -17
The American holes from within 10ft to get to -17 and into a share of third. He's playing on a medical exemption so could really do with a strong finish here. Big few holes coming up.
McIlroy makes sure to avoid the water up the right of 13 with his tee shot, pulling it into the fairway trap on the left. From there, he nukes a long iron to the right-hand fringe to give himself a good eagle look. He can't get it to go but makes the birdie putt to get to -18.
He's joined on that mark by Blair, who picks up another shot on 14 after his eagle on 13.
Bradley in trouble
The leader faces a tough up-and-down after blocking his tee shot on the eighth into the front-right trap. He splashes out well but will have 10ft for par.
Ahead, McIlroy has a good chance for birdie on 14 to get to -19. Could be a two-shot swing.
Bradley saves
You know things are going your way when you get this to drop. Keegan by five. pic.twitter.com/724DqHo6zR June 25, 2023
Bradley's par putt 360s round the hole but it eventually drops. We could have done with that missing for the competitiveness of this final day. Alas.
McIlroy misses so stays -18 but Blair makes another birdie at the short par-4 15th to join Reavie at -19.
Another birdie for Blair
Another birdie for @Z_Blair 🔥He's 8-under on the day and is currently solo 2nd @TravelersChamp.Blair would secure his status with a solo 2nd finish or better. https://t.co/Bk3HHYqIXK pic.twitter.com/JTtVAUUQ3z June 25, 2023
What a run Blair is on here. With a birdie on 16, he's five-under for his last four holes and eight-under for his last 11. He's now -20 and into solo second. Should he stay there, he'll pocked $2.18 million.
Behind, McIlroy is unable to take advantage of the short par-4 15th and has to settle for a par that leaves him on -18.
Reavie drops, Cantlay birdies
It's just not happened for Chez Reavie today. He must be the only player on the course not to have a birdie on his card so far. Another bogey at nine drops him to -18 and six back of his playing partner.
Ahead, Cantlay birdies the 10th to get to -18. It looks like these players are battling it out for second with Bradley in control but you never know.
Bradley stiffs it on 11
This is a clinic in front-running from Bradley. He's still in attack mode and lasers an iron shot into a couple of feet on the par-3 11th. He'll have that to restore his five-shot lead.
WATCH: How Bradley moved five clear
What a shot from @Keegan_Bradley 🎯He leads by FIVE with seven to play @TravelersChamp. pic.twitter.com/YmnvVsJL70 June 25, 2023
Blair in the house at -20
What a round of golf that was. Blair finishes with a par on 18 for a round of eight-under 62. He leads in the clubhouse at -20 and currently sits on his own in second.
Harman to -19
The left-hander makes a ridiculously good up-and-down from the bunker right of the 15th green to get to -19 and within one of Blair in second.
He makes no ground up on Bradley with the leader birdieing the 12th to get to -26. Incredible golf, although it is making for a rather subdued atmosphere.
McIlroy closes with par
Sounds weird to say but McIlroy settles for a six-under 64 to finish. He had it going early with five birdies in seven holes as he looked on for a really low one but a bogey at the short par-4 ninth stalled his progress.
He picked up a couple more birdies to get to -18 but couldn't make up any more ground. Still, after the disappointment of last week, it's another solid showing for the Northern Irishman.
Bradley in the water!
He leads by six so no need to panic yet if you're a Keegan Bradley fan, but he has just launched one into the water on 13. It's a big wide so he'll be dropping a long way back.
Ahead, Harman joins Blair in a tie for second on -20 with his fourth birdie in a row.
Eagle for Scheffler
The shot of the day on No. 15 👀Scottie Scheffler moves to T4 after the eagle @TravelersChamp. pic.twitter.com/BTIPn73Sw7 June 25, 2023
The World No. 1 is four-under for his last three holes after a stunning eagle on the par-4 15th. He's now -18 and in a tie for fifth.
Scheffler hasn't finished worse than tied 12th since last October. Ridiculous.
Bogey for Bradley
After hitting it in the water off the tee, the leader salvages a bogey on the par-5 13th to slip back to -25. He's still five ahead so little damage done. It's just his second bogey of the week and first since the 14th hole on Thursday.
Cantlay from downtown
From almost 30ft, Cantlay drops a monster birdie putt on the 14th to join the group at -20. He's within five of Bradley and has the short par-4 15th next so could apply a little pressure.
Bradley in trouble again
The leader is looking very nervy. Bradley comes up short and right with his second into 14 and his third from off the green with his putter pops up into the air on impact and comes up well short. It's looking like another dropped shot.
Cantlay leaves himself 6ft for birdie on 15.
Two-shot swing
Bradley makes bogey and Cantlay makes birdie to get to -21, meaning the lead is now three. Less than 30 minutes ago it was six. Huge moments coming up for the 2011 PGA champion - can he regain his composure?
Bradley misses birdie chance but Cantlay bogeys
The gap at the top is back to four. Bradley fails to take advantage of the short par-4 15th, missing from about 8ft for birdie. But he still makes up ground as Cantlay's par effort on the 16th is weak and pulls up short.
Scheffler closes with birdie
The man is a machine. A birdie at 18 gets Scheffler to -19 and into a tie for fifth after a closing 65. One of the most incredible runs of golf ever.
Another bogey for Bradley
Bradley comes up well short with his tee shot on 16, barely carrying the water. He chips to 9ft but can't save par and drops his third shot in four holes. He's back to -23 and three clear.
Cantlay misses great birdie chance
That is a huge miss. From 6ft on the 17th, Cantlay can't get his birdie putt to drop. It would've got him within two of Bradley, who is leaking oil, but that could now be his race run.
Par for Bradley on 17
A nerveless tee shot on 17 with water tight right helps Bradley make an easy par on the 17th and take a three-shot lead to 18. He'll struggle to lose it from here now.
Closing bogey for Cantlay
What a poor finish that is by Cantlay. He had chances to put some pressure on Bradley coming down the stretch but instead closes with bogeys on 16 and 18 to finish in a tie for fourth on -19. He's sneakily quite poor when in contention to win.
The stage is clear for Bradley, who has pulled a great lie in the left rough.
Keegan Bradley is the champion!!
Bradley finds the green in two and a smile appears on his face for the first time all day - he knows it's done. He duly two-putts to seal his second win of the season and pick up the biggest paycheque of his career.
Thanks for joining
As ever, thanks for following along. It wasn't a classic final day by any means but it got a little exciting at the end.
We'll be back next week for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Until then, goodbye!

2022 Travelers Championship leaderboard: Rory McIlroy stands on top with more big names in contention
There were no signs of a major championship hangover for mcilroy on thursday.
Birdies were flying all day at TPC River Highlands as the 2022 Travelers Championship got underway Thursday. Leading the charge, both on and off the course, was none other than world No. 2 Rory McIlroy. Signing for a bogey-free 8-under 62, the Northern Irishman has positioned himself atop yet another leaderboard.
Victorious just two weeks ago at the Canadian Open, a "disappointing" top-five finish at the U.S. Open has done nothing to damper the spirits of the 21-time winner on the PGA Tour. Coming into this tournament as the betting favorite, McIlroy's price has shortened considerably from 9-1 to 9/4 at Caesars Sportsbook as he and co-leader J.T. Poston hold a slim one-stroke lead over Xander Schauffele and Martin Laird.
"Anytime you start with a 62, you're going to take it," said McIlroy, whose 62 matched his lowest round of the season. "I feel like the start I got off to was sort of slow in a way. I birdied the two holes on the back nine that you should, 13 and 15, and then made a nice one on 18 to turn in 3-under par. Then once I got going on the front side there, that's when I started to really feel it and started to hole some putts and hit some quality shots ... overall a really good round of golf and a great start."
McIlroy was not the only star to shine in the opening round of the Travelers Championship. Schauffele was terrific from tee to green en route to his 63, and his good friend Patrick Cantlay was sharp in the afternoon with a 64. While they thrived, Jordan Spieth dwindled and finds himself at 5 over with plenty of work to do just to make it to the weekend.
1. Rory McIlroy (-8): The Travelers Championship marks McIlroy's fourth consecutive week of competition as he has not taken a break since the week following the PGA Championship. As such, there were discussions of possible fatigue both leading into the tournament as well as after his opening 62. This isn't anything new for the 33-year-old as he plans to put his full force behind the remaining 54 holes before taking some much deserved time off.
"I didn't hit any golf balls Monday and Tuesday. I flew back down to Florida for a day, spent the night in my own bed, flew back up Tuesday, didn't come to the course, and then [Wednesday] playing the pro-am in the rain wasn't really great preparation, but I feel -- I played well at Brookline," said McIlroy. "I'm not going to lose it in two days. I knew my game was good. I think at this point it's just -- energy levels are OK. I'm feeling a little under the weather, but it's just concentration at this point. I've got three more rounds left until I have a couple of weeks off and prepare for The Open Championship. I'm going to put everything into those three rounds."
Other contenders
T2. Xander Schauffele and Martin Laird (-7)
T5. Patrick Cantlay, Webb Simpson, Charles Howell III (-6)
T8. Matthew NeSmith and Cameron Davis (-5)
T10. Harris English, Wyndham Clark, Hank Lebioda, William McGirt and Keith Mitchell (-4)
From a statistical standpoint, Schauffele was the most impressive as he ranked second in strokes gained tee to green Thursday. We will get to Schauffele, but I wanted to touch on Simpson, who is slowly but surely rounding into some form. After carding the round of the day in the third round of the PGA Championship, the 36-year-old went on to finish in a tie for 20th and then collected a top-30 result the following week at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Signing for a bogey-free 64, Simpson is well-positioned to contend for his first title on the PGA Tour since the 2020 RBC Heritage. Two years removed from his most recent triumph and ascending as high as fourth in the Official World Golf Rankings, the now-world No. 60 has a fantastic opportunity to get back to his winning ways.
"Yeah, it was a great start. ... It was a fun day," said Simpson. "No bogeys. I can't remember the last time I had a bogey-free round, so it feels nice. Tried to make bogey on the last but got up-and-down. But you know, it wasn't easy. The wind was swirling. It's picking up a little bit right now. So, I feel great, solid all around I would say."
Xander hits all 18 greens in regulation
It was an excellent day for the five-time PGA Tour winner and current Olympic gold medalist. Hitting 18 of 18 greens in regulation, Schauffele eventually signed for a 63, one back of the leaders. In what may be the most shocking statistic on the PGA Tour, Schauffele has not won a full-field individual stroke-play event since his very first back in 2017 at the Greenbrier Classic and will hope to change that over the course of the next three days.
"I've done it in practice back at home, but it's a totally different thing, obviously, with the wind kind of being a lot of crosswinds," said Schauffele of hitting every green in regulation. "Sometimes, it's OK. I think 9 is a good example, if you go just over the green on the right it's not that hard of a putt, so there's spots out here where it's OK to miss the green and be on the fringe."
Sticking it close 👏 @XSchauffele is T1 at 5-under. pic.twitter.com/HxExdjhbhW — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) June 23, 2022
Travelers Championship odds, picks
Here is a look at the updated odds after 18 holes of play, via Caesars Sportsbook.
- Rory McIlroy: 9/4
- Patrick Cantlay: 5-1
- Xander Schauffele: 5-1
- Webb Simpson: 14-1
- Scottie Scheffler: 16-1
- J.T. Poston: 16-1
- Keith Mitchell: 22-1
- Martin Laird: 28-1
- Charles Howell III: 35-1
- Seamus Power 35-1
- Cam Davis: 40-1
The pricing at the top of the market is fairly aggressive but should come as no surprise given the name value. The presence of McIlroy, Cantlay, Schauffele and Scheffler may be daunting, but it does provide a solid opportunity to load up on players down the board. Harris English (-4) at 80-1 is of considerable interest as the defending champion made his return to competition a couple weeks ago at the Memorial Tournament after undergoing hip surgery in the winter.
He missed the cut at Jack's place but was present over the weekend at the U.S. Open and even ranked inside the top 15 in strokes gained approach in the middle two rounds. From a strokes gained perspective, the ball-striking was not all too impressive on Thursday, but the elementary data was strong as he peppered fairways and greens in regulation. It may still be a touch too early for English, but I'd rather be early to the party than miss the cake entirely.

Inside THE PLAYERS Championship: the PGA TOUR's Home Game
Exploring the past, present and future of golf’s fifth major..
For a sports fan the idea of taking the mound at Yankee Stadium a month before the World Series or unleashing a forehand on the All England Tennis Club’s green lawns in the lead up to Wimbledon is equally enticing, and equally unrealistic. That’s part of what makes golf so unique. At a venue like TPC Sawgrass, which hosts the PGA TOUR ‘s flagship event THE PLAYERS Championship annually, the public is welcome up until three weeks before the tournament. That’s what made getting to play the iconic 17th hole for the first time all the more special.
As we drove up the 4th hole on the Stadium Course with a representative from The TOUR, whose headquarters are just next door, we discussed how one might explain THE PLAYERS to a layman. Outside of the Masters which is played at Augusta National Golf Club, THE PLAYERS is the biggest golf tournament that returns every year to the same course. And that creates a familiarity where viewers are invited to recall past moments of greatness like Tiger ’s ‘better than most’ putt , Hal Sutton’s 6 iron or a young Adam Scott ’s breakout win. Many of us grew up playing Sawgrass in those Tiger Woods PGA Tour video games, and there are a lot of iconic golf venues out there, but none of them say “golf” quite like the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.
