What is “Lost Spirits Distillery?” Area 15, Las Vegas

' src=

An Alcohol Playland. Speakeasy-Meets-Distillery Tour, that’s the easiest way to describe this one-of-a-kind tasting experience. Lost Spirits takes the classic distillery tour and turns it into an amusement park of sorts. One with strong booze, atmospheric rooms, and stories; surrounding your senses and enhancing a traditional tasting.

distillery tour las vegas

Lost Spirits does not have a conventional barrel room, instead, you begin the experience walking through a live chemistry experiment. Fermentation & Distillation Rooms are beautifully presented with piping disguised as a dragon and great lighting casting shadows on the walls. Next, you arrive at some sort of mad-science demonstration.

Here, wood chips are placed in tanks and also added into an Actinic Light Reactor with coils and lights. It looks as futuristic and dumbfounding as it sounds, and it’s probably better to just think of it as a Flux Capacitor that helps to make booze for you to drink. Photodegradation is performed at an intensity of three times the sun in a glass chamber and instead of using a DeLorean, this shiny tube pretty much makes the alcohol age 10-20 years in just six days . The alcohol has won awards in blind taste tests and you’ll feel the burn as you drink the first spirit, a 122-Proof Navy Rum that you sip on during the tour.

distillery tour las vegas

Then the real fun begins.

The Village is where you can explore and discover four tasting experiences. Themed to alternate environments, you explore the area to taste the spirit while in different tasting rooms, for instance, you can walk into a Chapel where you will encounter the “Angel Sucker,” or wonder onto a Submarine. Each space dedicates itself to the flavor and stories that go along with the booze.

Shows periodically begin in areas around the village. Burlesque, magic acts, and small aerial stunts are of very high quality and all are worth your time.

I’m a beer drinker with an occasional spirit, so I’m not one to specifically go into detail about the tastings themselves. My favorite was the pineapple one. I loved them all, they were strong, burned sometimes, I learned how to smell and taste, and I feel like this was an incredible couple of hours for someone who is not experienced in spirits, and I’m sure someone with knowledge would love it even more.

distillery tour las vegas

Make sure to ask questions when inside the distillery, talk to the Spirit Guides and Performers. They all have a fascinating story to tell about the drinks or their performance, for instance, the Ball Python is named Cinnamon and the snakes live with Sabrina, one of the dancers!

Honest opinion, if you are looking for something to do in Vegas, Lost Spirits is one of the best things I’ve ever done in the area. Escape the Casinos and traditional bars and head on over, it’s highly recommended. Considering the price of alcohol at a bar in Vegas plus the entertainment, the value of the tour feels correct at $89. Our group sure was in a great mood by the end.

Now what about that Orlando Lost Spirits location? Keep your ears open – we hear they’re in talks currently to have a space at the new 2024 ‘Area 15 Orlando!’ Fingers crossed!

Lost Spirits Distillery Area 15 Immersive Tour

' data-class=

Lost Spirits Distillery is among the world’s top-ranked distilleries., but the quality of their spirits isn’t the only thing that sets them apart. The Lost Spirits Distillery tour at Area 15 in Las Vegas is a tasting tour like no other. Fully immersive and whimsical, Lost Spirits has been coined as the “Willy Wonka of Booze” by Playboy magazine.

So, what makes this experience so memorable? Come along and find out.

Lost Spirits Distillery Tour

lost spirits distillery area 15 4

Distillery tours are often fairly lackluster, leading you through the workings of the distillery for a behind-the-scenes look and sipping a few samples along the way. This is NOT the experience you’re going to have at Lost Spirits Distillery in Las Vegas. This tour is fully immersive, surrounding you with visual and audio stimuli that leave you feeling a bit like a kid on a wild adventure.

Touted as an adult Disneyland and the Willy Wonka Factory of booze, you instantly understand all of the hype the minute you step foot in this immersive experience. You’ll be guided through a number of tasting rooms that include the Magic Elevator Room, The English Parlor, The Candle Lit Forest, The Havana Hologram Lounge with holographic performers, The Dorian Gray Tasting Room, and one that seems to be everyone’s favorite – 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea tasting room.

As you might have noticed, there’s a bit of a literary theme throughout the tasting rooms. Owner Bryan Davis admits that some of his favorite scenes from literature have been the inspiration behind the theme of each tasting room.

If you’re lucky, you might find yourself on a tour with Bryan Davis himself as your tour guide, leading the way through what can best be described as an amusement park for lovers of fine spirits.

lost spirits distillery area 15 2

The fully immersive tour includes boat rides, a trip through a faux aquatic fantasia, holographic performers that include calypso dancers, a candlelit jungle, and a tasting in an opium den scene in the Dorian Gray room. A tasting tour through lost spirits is a bit like falling back into history and losing yourself in the most fantastical scenes at the same time.

Of course, the ambiance and nuances of the tasting rooms aren’t the only attraction at Lost Spirits Distillery in Las Vegas. It’s also about the booze. Lost Spirits is a highly acclaimed distillery with accolades that include being called “America’s Best Distillery Experience,” “Best in Class,” “Winners of the Gold Medal & Consumer Choice Award,” and being named winner of the “Liquid Gold Award.”

During the tours, you’ll experience the taste of fine whisky, Navy rum, and brandy. Each tour includes four tastings, plus the opportunity to pay extra for special tastings in hidden rooms along the way. Keep in mind that during peak times, these hidden rooms might be full. If you have your heart set on wandering off and exploring these secret treasures of this adult Willy Wonka factory, plan on visiting during a less busy time slot.

Lost Spirits Distillery Las Vegas Location

Lost Spirits Distillery is located in Area 15 in Las Vegas. Area 15 is located at 3215 S Rancho Dr., Las Vegas, NV, in a nondescript warehouse building with a simple sign. From the appearance of the outside of the building, you’d never expect the epicenter of incredible surprises and journey that awaits you in this massive entertainment complex.

Once you enter Area15, turn right when you see the skull and then look for the holograms that hold the Lost Spirits sign (this sentence alone should tell you that your visit will be anything but ordinary). Once inside, all you need is a valid ID that says you’re at least 21 years of age.

Prices and Policies

Admission prices vary for the tours at Lost Spirits Distillery, depending on the day of the week, and whether there are any holidays or special events in Las Vegas that increase the demand for a space in line. Tickets are generally priced around $55, and that provides four tastings of whisky, rum, and brandy and a tour of their amazing distillery.

Lost Spirits is currently open Thursday thru Monday, with Tuesday and Wednesday as dark days. Friday evenings and Saturdays typically include live performers as well. This schedule is subject to change.

You should plan on spending anywhere from 1-2 hours at the distillery, depending on how long you want to spend lingering in your favorite room. There’s no rush, and you’ll want to take a little time and enjoy all the nuances of each exquisitely distilled spirit.

lost spirits distillery area 15 6

The pours are quite generous, so it’s strongly encouraged that you don’t drink before you arrive, and also that you don’t plan on driving. Las Vegas has some pretty stiff penalties for drinking and driving, so it’s best to play it safe and not ruin your time in Vegas. Also, know your own tolerance and sip accordingly during your visit.

Lost Spirits Distillery is open to anyone who is at least the legal drinking age of 21. While younger visitors might enjoy this surreal world, they’ll have to leave it to their imagination because they’re not allowed in.

Due to the nature of this immersive tour, it’s suggested that you wear comfortable shoes. Otherwise, there is no dress code.

World’s Most Immersive Distillery

Lost Spirits Distillery at Area 15 in Las Vegas is an experience like none other. Bring your sense of adventure, your love of fine liquor and spirits, and allow yourself to escape for a moment to a world that previously only existed in your imagination. Purchase your tickets and make your reservations today.

Lost Spirits Distillery Las Vegas – What You Need to Know Before You Go

  • In the City / Las Vegas

Looking for something unique to do in Las Vegas? Check out Lost Spirits Distillery!

We sat in silence mesmerized by the chandeliers, floating fish, and Leonard Cohen music that felt written for the moment. Although I was being transported into another world, I thought to myself how I haven’t felt more present in a long while.

The Lost Spirits Distillery tour has been called  adult Disneyland  or  Willy Wonka Factory for booze . It’s unlike any other distillery tour we’ve been on, and can’t wait to see what they come up with in their next phase.

Planning checklist, more resources, about lost spirits distillery las vegas.

Bryan Davis and Joanne Haruta founded Lost Spirits Distillery in 2010, and from the get-go, they mixed art, science, and innovation.

Over the years, they dabbled with different concoctions and multiple distillery locations, including a Japanese-style tea garden in  Monterey County .

In 2015, Bryan received global attention when he invented a new way of aging spirits that they still use today. Using his new distilling method (the Davis method), he was able to replicate the chemical signature and taste of spirits aged for 20 years in a barrel in less than a week. Having a background in chemistry, I was so impressed that he was self-taught.

We had the pleasure of meeting Bryan and Joanne during our tour, and after spending only a couple of hours with them, it’s clear how passionate they are about what they do. They have their hands involved in every aspect of developing their spirits, the design, and the tour experience.

Local Tip: As they continue to expand the Las Vegas location, you will regularly see them around. Bryan is always more than happy to chat and will point out details you might miss on the tour.

Lost Spirits Distillery Tour and Show in Las vegas

The Lost Spirits Distillery Tour is located near  AREA15 , which couldn’t be a more fitting location in Las Vegas. With incredible but hard-to-describe immersive experiences like Wink World and  Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart , this distillery is right at home.

When they create their spirits, they aim to transport you to a specific place in their imagination. During the distillery tour, they create these imaginative places so that you can see them yourself.

During the tour/show, you will wander throughout the space discovering the 44 resident performers. Within that space, you’ll also find stations where you can do your tastings and even a bar to purchase pre-made cocktails. One of the areas, while you explore, is where you can do the distillery tour too.

Lost Spirit Distillery Tour and Show Tickets

Tickets for the distillery tour  cost between $59-89  ($49 for locals) depending on the day and time and what package you want. It  lasts over 2 hours,  and the normal tickets include  four drinks . Currently, they run  Wednesday to Monday  with extended days on holiday weekends.

They will be rotating through what they have available but should always have their signature rum, the Navy Style Rum.

How to Get to Lost Spirits Distillery

Lost Spirits is located in a building near  AREA 15 , where there is plenty of parking. If you’re facing the main AREA15 entrance, it will be to your back left in the furthest away building. You’ll see hanging lights.

Spoiler Alert: We think it’s more fun to go without knowing what to expect behind each door or area. If you want to leave a little mystery, you should skip the rest of this post until after. If you’re the type that hates surprises and likes everything planned out, read on.

When we visited Lost Spirits for the first time after they opened, the experience is much different than what it is now.

You go through the tour at your own pace and have a passport that you get stamped at each drink station. During our visit, Bryan walked us through the entire facility to give us more insight.

Original Visit

After checking in, the tour started in a room where we got our first pour and an introduction to Lost Spirits. There was a fun interaction with the chandelier, and then we took a journey through a magical forest to a Havana-themed room. We sat down to enjoy our first drink while the stage was filled with holographic performers and a holo-Bryan.

Next, we stepped outside and hopped on one of their carts at the entrance of AREA15. Then they pedaled us to another building on-site, where the remainder of the tour was.

There, we received 3 more pours and saw the distilling process, including Bryan’s patented method. Lastly, there are two additional rooms where you can lounge. We don’t want to give everything away, since part of the magic is in the mystery. However, we will say our favorite room is their  20,000 Leagues Under the Sea  room with the swaying chandeliers.

You can see the room in the photo below (we went back when it was closed to grab a few shots while it was empty).

Recent Visit

The tour and show now open at the same building. After checking in at the carts outside, you make your way into the building. Once inside, you are free to explore. There are multiple areas where performers have shows and each area has a host of some sort that will announce each act. Once you’re inside, you’re free to wander and explore as you wish. Our group loved the jazz band so we stayed to hear them a couple of times.

Local Tip: Take a close look at all the floating fish. Each has its own story.

THE DISTILLERY

THE DISTILLERY

Prohibition made it illegal to brew beer or distill liquor, so America’s unquenched thirst for alcohol demanded an underworld solution. The Mob filled the void, smuggling spirits into the country and producing moonshine from hidden stills.

This exhibit tells the stories of bootleggers, rumrunners and the government agents who tried to take them down. The centerpiece is a working still producing moonshine so you, too, can have a taste of this formerly forbidden engine of American commerce.

DISTILLERY TOURS

Take a journey through Prohibition with The Mob Museum’s Distillery Tours that involves sampling a variety of distilled spirits.

Good moonshine required skill and patience to make during Prohibition, and getting it to the public was a perilous endeavor. But hooch as smooth as ours would have been well worth the risk, making bootleggers rich and speakeasies the talk of the town.

With notes of buttery, sweet popcorn, you won’t find moonshine like this anywhere else.

The Mob Museum’s Moonshine is now available for purchase at all Lee’s Discount Liquor and Total Wine & More stores across Southern Nevada.

The Underground at The Mob Museum Review

“Got a secret, can you keep it?” There’s a hidden speakeasy in the The Mob Museum in Las Vegas that you can enter (for free) if you have the password. Find out more about it in this The Underground at The Mob Museum review .

For more help planning your trip, check out all of our posts about Las Vegas .

There’s a Taylor Swift interview that floats around on social media from time to time where she talks about enjoying things, like genuinely enjoying things. And how that’s okay.

She says , “I don’t think you should ever have to apologize for your excitement. Just because it’s like, I don’t know, just because something’s cliché doesn’t mean that it’s not something that’s awesome. The worst kind of person is someone who makes someone feel bad, dumb or stupid for, like, being excited about something.”

I bring this up here, in our The Underground at The Mob Museum review, because that’s how I feel about this spot so much. It’s quirky, it’s gimmicky, it’s cliché, and I loved every single bit of it. We had such a good time there earlier this month.

The Underground is a secret speakeasy hidden in The Mob Museum in Las Vegas. You search for a barrel to find a staircase that leads to a door with a sliding peephole where you need a password to enter.

We have a similar speakeasy in Wilmington, which is down a hallway and then you knock on a door with a sliding peephole (which doesn’t require a password).

These are very much IYKYK places, which most people about because they’re the worst kept secrets. And yet, they feel secret. Which is really fun. And why The Underground should be on your list of things to do in Las Vegas next time you’re in town. That and because the beer-braised beef sliders are very good.

The Mob Museum is located in Downtown Las Vegas, which is somewhere you should visit when you’re in town. Get off the Strip. Live a little. And, if you decide to, our list of 10 Must Do Things In Downtown Las Vegas will help you plan that portion of your trip.

Quick note about The Mob Museum (technically the National Museum Of Organized Crime And Law Enforcement). It’s a really great museum, located in a former Las Vegas post office, that has floors of exhibits where you can learn about the history of organized crime. So I hear. We didn’t go.

You don’t have to purchase a ticket for The Mob Museum in order to check out the speakeasy. If you have a general admission ticket to enter the museum, you can get to the speakeasy, which is in the basement of The Mob Museum, through a stairway located in the box office in the lobby of the museum. If you don’t have a ticket, you can still enter. You just need a password.

How to Get Into The Underground Speakeasy at The Mob Museum

If you’re looking at The Mob Museum from Stewart Avenue, you’ll want to head to the right side and go to the back of the building where you’ll see a large wooden barrel.

To the right of the barrel is a nondescript staircase. Walk down it.

Once you’re down the staircase, you’ll see a green door. Knock.

A doorman will greet you, open the sliding peephole, and ask you for the password (which you can find daily in The Mob Museum’s Instagram stories or on its website).

The door will open and the doorman will give you wristband that allows you access to The Underground. The wristband doesn’t allow you access to the actual museum or any of the museum’s exhibits.

Then, you’ll walk right into the speakeasy.

The Speakeasy

At its core, the speakeasy is an exhibit, just like other exhibits in the museum. The difference is that this exhibit contains interactive experiences: eating, drinking, and a distillery tour (for ticket holders).

The Underground is modeled as a prohibition era speakeasy, with plush leather couches and a fully stocked bar. But, since it is an exhibit, there are tons of artifacts and information cards around the speakeasy, plus videos that play non-stop (although you can’t actually hear them while you’re there). That’s a nice perk for anyone (like us) who came solely for the speakeasy and not for the museum. You do get a little big of mob history with your drink.

There are a bunch of tables and seating in The Underground, both within the speakeasy itself and at the bar.

There’s free live music on the weekends (8 pm to midnight on Friday and Saturday; 7 pm to 11 pm on Sunday).

The Cocktails

The hand-crafted cocktails reflect the cocktails made at the time. If you’ve been to a craft cocktail bar since the resurgence about a decade ago, you’re familiar with this prohibition-era style.

Pete started with the Bathtub Fizz, a nod to  “bathtub gin”  (the name for alcohol made during prohibition because it was either made with water from the bathtub or made in the bathtub, depending on which folklore you like best). This cocktail was basically a Sloe Gin Fizz, made from gin, sloe gin, aperol, sugar, lemon, egg white, and bitters.

It’s served in a bathtub, which you can keep for an additional $20.

But, rather than spend money on a tub, Pete ordered a second cocktail. This time, he went with the Giggle Water. That’s seasonal fruit-infused vodka, lillet, bitters, and sparkling wine (a nod to the popular 1920’s drink the French 75 , according to the menu).

This one wasn’t served in a fancy class, but rather, with a wafer paper that, in a simple typeface, says, “Remember, you were never here.”

Little things like that, they’re just fun.

What I did really appreciate is there are three non-alcoholic mocktails on the menu: Raspberry Lavender Fizz (which I ordered and was amazing), The Test Pilot (which my mom loved), and Pineapple Smash (whcih no one ordered because my dad ordered a domestic beer).

I like when there are fancy mocktails on the menu. It makes me, who doesn’t drink, feel included. Which bars don’t actually do often enough.

We got to The Underground at lunchtime (it opens at noon), so of course we had to eat. And, if you’re going to be sampling some of the drinks in The Underground, it’s a good idea to get some food in your stomach.

We ordered the pretzel bites with beer cheese, which of course we had to try. And, quick side note: The Mob Museum actually brews 60 gallons of craft beer per month, including  The Big Al’s Ale , named for the famed mobster  Al Capone . We also had the aforementioned beer-braised beef sliders and the spinach and artichoke dip.

Everything was very good. And very easy to split (which is honestly how we were ordering because it was four of us sharing).

But, better than the taste is the story behind the items. Instead of explaining to you what spinach and artichoke dip is (because we all know that already), the menu actually describes the  Great Artichoke War  — which I never heard of until I saw the menu.

But apparently, New York City Mayor Fiorello La Guardia (who yes, the airport is named after) banned artichokes after this war because  Ciro “Artichoke King”  Terranova (yes, his real nickname) of the  Morello crime family  made a million dollars importing artichokes from California into New York, tripling the price, and selling them to Italians.

You can’t make this stuff up if you tried.

So of course, we had to have the once banned vegetable along with our once banned alcohol.

The Distillery

The Mob Museum actually has an on-site distillery, which you can see through a window in The Underground. Moonshine is made in a 60-gallon still there.

One of the add ons to Mob Museum tickets is a 30-minute guided tour of the distillery. Tastings are available on the tour, so there are age restrictions (you do have to be 21 or older to partake in The Underground distillery tours). And, you have to have a ticket to the museum in order to add on the interactive experience.

But, why, is there a distillery in the basement, you ask? Because, during prohibition, alcohol wasn’t allowed to be made. So the mob smuggled spirits into the United States and made moonshine in hidden stills. And that’s why there’s one “hidden” in the secret speakeasy in The Mob Museum.

Speaking of interactive distilleries, if you want to see another, you need to check out Lost Spirits Distillery & Circus when you’re visiting Las Vegas.

The Bathroom

In case you’re wondering, yes, there’s a bathroom in the hallway next to The Underground that’s open to patrons of the speakeasy.

Go. Even if you don’t have to go. Go. Because in that hallway, there are some other exhibits and artifacts, plus a fish tank with the words “Lizzie D” behind it.

The  Lizzie D  was a tugboat that was carrying illegal alcohol that sank in 1922. It wasn’t discovered until a dive 55 years later found the boat and bottles of bootlegged alcohol.

The Secret VIP Room

Oh? You though the secret speakeasy was the only secret in The Underground. Think again.

Along the wall furthest from the secret entrance is a large painting of a woman dressed in 1920’s style. Surprise. It’s not just a framed photo. That’s a secret door leading to the private  VIP room . That’s the type of room where mob bosses held their meetings. And only people who needed to know knew about the room.

And now you know about this one. So you know the most secret secret of the secret speakeasy.
