Yes, the points earn rate may differ for each account if you have multiple accounts enrolled in the Value Program. This is because each account will be assessed individually to evaluate the number of eligible product categories you have associated with each account, which determines the rate at which your account(s) earn Avion points.

For example, if you have two personal deposit accounts enrolled in the Value Program and 5 eligible product categories:

  • One account would have 3 product categories, which means you would earn 1 Avion point for every $3 spent on debit in-store and online using the enrolled account.
  • The second account would have the remaining 2 product categories, which means you would earn 1 Avion point for every $5 spent on debit in-store and online using the enrolled account.

Clients with one of the following products are RBC Avion credit card holders:

Only RBC Avion credit card holders are eligible to redeem their Avion points for flights on the Air Travel Redemption Schedule . Before booking, you should keep in mind:

  • Check the number of points needed for your destination in the Air Travel Redemption Schedule.
  • Destinations have a Maximum Ticket Price (All taxes and service fees are separate and are not part of the maximum ticket price). In the event that a ticket costs more than the allowed amount, the additional cost can be charged to your credit card or you can use your Avion points at a rate of 100 points = $1 CAD.

For example:

A flight from Toronto to Vancouver has a Maximum Ticket Price of $750 CAD. If the base fare of the flight you select is $825 CAD, you can charge the excess amount of $75 ($825-$750=$75), (plus taxes and fees) to your credit card or redeem points at a rate of 100 points = $1 CAD (75x100= 7500 points)

If the base ticket price exceeds the Maximum Ticket Price, the additional cost can either be charged to your credit card or you can use any remaining points at a rate of 100 points = $1 CAD to pay for the amount over the maximum ticket price. Terms and Conditions .

A flight from Toronto to Montreal requires 15,000 Avion points and has a Maximum Ticket Price of $350 CAD (all taxes and service fees are separate and are not part of the ticket price.)

The base fare of the flight you select is $400 CAD. This amount exceeds the maximum ticket price ($350 CAD) by $50.

You can either charge the excess amount of $50 (plus taxes and fees) to your credit card, or use any remaining points at a rate of 100 points = $1 CAD (50x100=5 000 points).

For RBC Avion credit card holders who do not want to redeem from the Air Travel Redemption schedule, there is no Maximum Ticket Price for airline tickets.

Yes, you can pay for your booking with a combination of points and credit card.

For ION or ION+ cardholders, Avion Rewards Core Product Accounts and Avion Select members, 172 points = $1 CAD. A minimum of 2,500 points must be redeemed and the remaining balance can be paid with a credit card.

Other Avion Rewards members can redeem travel at a rate of 100 points =$1 CAD. A minimum of 1,000 points must be redeemed and the remaining balance can be paid with a credit card.

RBC Avion Visa cardholders who are redeeming Avion points for flights from the Air Travel Redemption Schedule can use their credit card to pay for taxes and fees and any amount above the Maximum Ticket Price.

RBC Avion Visa cardholders can also purchase additional points to use towards flights on the Air Travel Redemption Schedule and must have at least half of the required points for their booking in order to purchase additional points. The minimum amount of points to purchase is 1,000 and maximum is 15,000, and every 1,000 points costs $40 CAD plus applicable taxes.

Yes. There are three ways to redeem Avion points for first or business class seats.

Select either first class or business class before searching for flights. Then, redeem the required number of Avion points for the destination of your choice, up to the Maximum Ticket Price as indicated in the Air Travel Redemption Schedule. The Maximum Ticket Price excludes any applicable taxes, surcharges and fees. Finally, pay for the price difference between the Maximum Ticket Price and the total price of your first or business class ticket by redeeming your points at the rate of 100 points = $1.00 CAD.

Redeeming for a flight from Toronto to Vancouver from the Air Travel Redemption Schedule requires 35,000 points for a Maximum Ticket Price of $750 CAD. The Maximum Ticket Price excludes any applicable taxes, surcharges and fees. If the cost of the flight you select in business class is $1,000 CAD, you can pay for the price difference of $250 by redeeming 25,000 additional points (100 points = $1 CAD). In total, you would need to redeem 60,000 points.

If you are an RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege for Private Banking, RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege, RBC Avion Visa Infinite Business or RBC Commercial Avion Visa cardholder, you can pay for the entire price of a first or business class ticket (including any applicable taxes, surcharges and fees) by redeeming your points at the rate of 100 points = $2.00 CAD.

If a flight from Toronto to Vancouver in first class costs $3,200 CAD (including any applicable taxes, surcharges and fees), you would need to redeem 160,000 Avion points (100 points = $2 CAD)

Convert your Avion points to WestJet dollars or to British Airways Avios, American Airlines AAdvantage Miles or Cathay Pacific Asia Miles. Converting your Avion points gives you the flexibility to redeem for rewards and benefits these programs offer, including for first or business class seats. Once converted, points cannot be transferred or converted back to Avion points.

All travel reservations made over the phone will be subject to a $30 booking fee per ticket or hotel booking.

Avion Rewards members with an Avion Rewards Core Account can't make new bookings over the phone.

Yes. If the airline you have selected provides this service, you may pre-select your seat while booking travel online or after you have completed your redemption

Note: If fees apply, payment for your seat selection is by credit card only.

Unfortunately, at this time, booking travel to Cuba or Iran is unavailable through the Avion Rewards website, mobile app and the Avion Rewards Travel call centre. If you want to travel to Cuba or Iran, please call 1-800-ROYAL-1- 2.

Eligible Avion Rewards members with an RBC points-earning credit card can use their points to redeem towards eligible transactions as a statement credit.

Note: Clients must have an RBC points-earning credit card in order to Pay Back Purchases with Points and RBC Commercial Avion Visa is not eligible.

Here’s how to Pay Back Purchases with Avion points:

  • Sign in to RBC Mobile or Online Banking
  • Go to credit card transaction details page
  • Double click on any particular transaction
  • There will be transaction details like purchase date, merchant name etc. and a Pay with Points button
  • Click on the Pay with Points button and go to the Pay Back with Points page where transaction details appear along with the current full points balance that is available
  • Choose any amount of points to use to “offset” all or even just a portion of the purchase amount
  • Redemption is completed with a confirmation and Avion points will be deducted from account balance right away
  • A credit will be posted on credit card account within 1-2 business days with a description of “rewards redemption – merchant name”

Note: This feature is only available in the RBC Mobile app.

Pay In-Store with Points is a capability available in the RBC Launch app that allows you to redeem your Avion points for purchases completed in stores with an eligible mobile wallet (iOS and Samsung).

Any purchase transactions between $1 and $250 CAD completed through an eligible mobile wallet using your device qualify.

  • Make sure you’ve downloaded the RBC Launch app. Sign in with your credentials and enable push notifications. There are 2 ways to redeem:
  • Sign in to the RBC Launch app. Select the transaction banner at the top, and redeem points towards your last purchase with Apple Pay.
  • Turn on push notifications for the RBC Launch app. We’ll let you know when your purchase is eligible to redeem points.
  • Get started by selecting the Samsung Pay app icon or by swiping up from the bottom of your screen.
  • Select Pay with Avion Rewards Points and choose how many points you’d like to use towards your purchase.
  • Tap to pay, and your purchase is complete.

The full purchase amount will be charged to your credit card for your purchase and a statement credit for the points redemption will be applied on your credit card account within 2-3 business days from the date of your purchase. Your statement credit will indicate which merchant your transaction was made with.

You will still continue to earn Avion points for the full purchase amount even when you redeem points for that purchase.

All redemptions are final and cannot be cancelled or reversed once submitted. The points redeemed will remain as a statement credit towards your account balance even when you return or refund your purchase. The number of points redeemed may vary during promotional campaigns.

Note: Push notifications may display account information, such as account balance and transaction information, on the screen of your device in a locked state and in your device notification center. You can disable push notifications in your notification settings.

Yes. If you’re an eligible Avion Rewards member and a member of the Hudson’s Bay Rewards program, you can:

  • Convert your Avion points to Hudson’s Bay Rewards points.
  • Turn on auto-convert to have your Hudson’s Bay Rewards points automatically converted to Avion points.

With auto-convert, your current Hudson’s Bay Rewards points will automatically be converted to Avion points on an ongoing basis, until you turn it off. When auto-convert is turned on, you won’t be able to convert Avion points to Hudson’s Bay Rewards points.

You must be a member of the Hudson’s Bay Rewards program in order to complete either of the conversions above, and the Hudson’s Bay Rewards account must be in the same name as your RBC Royal Bank credit card account.

For one-time conversions, a minimum of 500 Avion points must be converted and they can only be converted in increments of 2 Avion points thereafter. For auto-convert, your Hudson’s Bay Rewards points will be automatically converted to Avion points when you have a minimum of 40 points in your Hudson’s Bay Rewards account and in increments of 4 Hudson’s Bay Rewards points thereafter.

Note: At this time, RBC ION Visa and RBC ION+ Visa cardholders are not eligible to convert their Avion points to the Hudson Bay Rewards Program and vice versa.

To turn on auto-convert:

  • Sign in to Avion Rewards
  • Select Redeem in the top navigation or menu.
  • Select Hudson’s Bay Rewards from the Convert Points menu.
  • Select the tab, Auto-convert your Hudson’s Bay Rewards points, and follow the steps.

This benefit is only available to Avion Elite and Avion Premium members with an eligible RBC credit card. At this time, RBC ION Visa and RBC ION+ Visa cardholders are not eligible to convert their Avion points to the Hudson Bay Rewards Program and vice versa.

No, we don’t currently offer this option. You can only convert Avion points to Hudson’s Bay Rewards as a one-time conversion with a minimum of 500 Avion points.

Transfer points gives you the ability to consolidate your Avion points where you need them most. Through a simple set of steps, you can transfer Avion points from one points account to another. Check out the individual perks and benefits of your points-earning account to see where you can maximize the value of your points.

Note: Points are transferred on a 1:1 basis, meaning the number of points you transfer will not change from one points-earning product to another. In addition, there is no fee to transfer points.

If you have more than one Avion points account, you can transfer points between most accounts that appear on your profile. Transfers are only eligible between points accounts that you own. Points earned by an authorized credit card user, belong to the primary credit cardholder.

Yes, you can combine the Avion points you have earned using your eligible personal deposit account (by making in-store or online debit purchases) with the Avion points you have earned with your personal, and business credit card and vice versa.

Here’s how to combine your Avion points between points-earning products:

  • Log in to avionrewards.com and click the "Transfer" menu.
  • On the landing page, select "Transfer Now” in the “Transfer Points” option. You can transfer points between the products shown in the drop-down menu.
  • Within "Transfer Points", you can set up a one-time transfer or an auto-transfer so that all the points you earn with your points-earning product(s) can be pooled to one points account, making it easy to keep track of your points in one place and get you closer to your redemption goals.

No. There is no minimum or maximum. You can transfer Avion points between accounts as you need, with no limits. Also, if you realize that you have transferred too many points in a points account, or into the wrong points account, you can always transfer them back, with no fees.

When you transfer Avion points from your U.S. Dollar Visa Gold points account to another Avion points account (non U.S. dollar), the points will be transferred at a rate of 1:1.

No. Avion points transfers are final, and cannot be reversed or cancelled. However, if you choose the wrong points account for your transfer or need the points back into the account you transferred from, you can just set up another transfer. Don’t worry, you will not pay any fees, or experience any loss in the transfer.

Yes. If your business banking profile is linked to your personal banking profile, you can transfer points to or from your business rewards account online.

If your business banking profile is not linked to your personal banking profile, you can transfer points from or to your business rewards account by calling us at 1-800-769-2512 .

Avion points will be awarded based on how many points you have earned up until the day you opt out. As long as your personal deposit account remains open (and in good standing?), you will not lose the points you have previously earned when you opt out of the Value Program .

If you close a personal deposit account that is enrolled in the Value Program:

  • The monthly fee rebate 1 you receive will be based on the number of eligible product categories you had and the specific account activities you completed (pre-authorized payment, direct deposit, eligible bill payment) in the previous calendar month. If you close your account on a day other than the last day of the calendar month, your monthly fee rebate will be pro-rated and paid on your next statement cycle date.
  • Avion points are earned up until the day the account is closed and are based on debit purchases made from the first day of the calendar month through the date you close your account.

After closing your personal deposit account, you have 12 months to use your Avion points, which can be redeemed by calling the RBC Advice Centre at 1-800-769-2512 .

Yes you can. You will be able to redeem Avion points you have earned (based on the rates associated with the closed account) for up to 12 months after closure. You can also transfer your points to any active points account you have and redeem from there. If you are not ready to redeem your points, be sure to transfer them to an active account before your 12 months are up.

Through the Value Program , Avion points are reported monthly and take into account all in-store and online debit purchases from, and returns to, an enrolled personal deposit account.

For example, say you purchase a $300 blender with your debit card in December and received your Avion points. In January, you return the blender and get a $300 credit to your personal deposit account, but you also make $500 in debit purchases. For January, you would be awarded points for $200 of your debit spend ($500 in debit purchases minus the $300 return). Alternatively, if in January you do not make any debit purchases and only return the $300 blender, you would not be awarded any points for January and 300 points will be removed from your points account.

Cash back on eligible offers is issued in Canadian currency. For foreign currency transactions, the cash back earned may be subject to foreign exchange fees, foreign currency fluctuations or other factors that may influence the amount of cash back earned when calculating the Canadian dollar equivalent amount.

For cash back offers, there is a holding period before it is moved to an earned status and available to be cashed out by a member. This holding period varies by merchant as it is dependent upon each merchants return window plus associated processing time which can typically be up to 120 days after the original transaction date. During this period cash back will be reflected in your activity dashboard and can be found under the Pending tab. Once the holding period is complete it will move to the Earned tab within the activity dashboard.

  • You made the purchase directly on the merchant’s site without clicking on “Load Offer” in Avion Rewards first. Offers are only activated when you click through from Avion Rewards

Let’s walk through how the Avion Rewards program works and how to redeem your Avion points across various rewards categories.

  • Log in to your account. Login to avionrewards.com or download the Avion Rewards app for Android or iOS. You’ll need your RBC Online Banking login credentials.
  • Browse rewards. See available rewards including flights, travel packages, gift cards and merchandise. You can also convert Avion points into other types of loyalty points, pay down your credit card bill, donate to charity and more.
  • Select your reward or transfer points. Once you choose the reward you want, select Pay with Rewards . Alternatively, you can select Transfer Points to aggregate your points across multiple RBC products.

When purchasing a flight on the RBC Avion website, you have the option to redeem Avion points when inputting your payment information during the checkout process.

You’ll also be able to convert your Avion points to partner airline loyalty programs such as American Airlines, Asia Miles, British Airways or WestJet Rewards using this online portal.

What makes flight redemptions so special?

Flight redemptions will usually give you the best value when you redeem Avion points. Other features that make flight redemptions unique to Avion include no blackout dates or restrictions and no booking fees.

Your points will also never expire and you’ll be able to use them to cover the taxes and fees on your flight. These are features that aren’t typically available with other frequent flyer programs like Aeroplan or Air Miles.

Who is most likely to be researching how to redeem Avion points?

Finder data suggests that men aged 25-34 are most likely to be researching this topic.

Shop for items and gift cards on the Avion Rewards website like you would on any other online marketplace—but pay with points instead of money.

If you want to redeem Avion points for merchandise or gift cards, you can visit RBC’s online rewards catalogue. There are over 100 brands available for gift cards, as well as thousands of consumer goods to purchase including electronics, kitchen appliances, fashion and much more.

You can easily search for the product or gift card you want and redeem your points using your online account. You can also use the portal to make a donation to the charity of your choice.

When paying bills online with RBC, select the “Avion Rewards” option on mobile or the “Pay with Avion Rewards Points” tab on desktop to redeem your Avion points.

You’ll be able to redeem Avion points to pay for a number of RBC’s financial products. You can use your points to pay off your credit card, contribute to your investment products, pay off your loans or pay your monthly bills. All you’ll have to do to redeem your points is sign into your RBC online banking account or the RBC Mobile banking app.

Avion is a bank-specific frequent flyer program operated by the Royal Bank of Canada (one of Canada’s Big Five banks). With this program, you’ll earn points whenever you spend money on your credit card.

There are several Avion credit cards that let you earn between 1 and 3 Avion points for every dollar spent , depending on the card you choose. Points can be redeemed for a wide variety of rewards.

You no longer need to have an RBC credit card to participate in the Avion Rewards program, but you will gain access to higher tiers and more Avion rewards if you do.

Avion points will be worth different amounts based on how and what you redeem the points for and whether or not you take advantage of a promotion. That said, the average value for each Avion point is approximately 1-2 cents per point.

As a rule of thumb, Avion points are worth more when you cash in those points for flights and other travel-related purchases. The value of Avion points are typically worth less when redeemed for items such as merchandise, gift cards and RBC financial products.

The number of points you can earn depends almost exclusively on how much money you spend on your Avion credit card. The average number of points you’ll need to take a short-haul flight between provinces or to some US states is 15,000 points (for a max ticket price of $350). Depending on the RBC Avion credit card, you’ll need to spend $5,000-$15,000 to earn these points.

If you’d prefer to earn points faster, you can check out RBC’s promotions page to see if there are opportunities for you to get more points for making certain purchases or spending money at specific stores.

You may want to pay more for a premium card so that you earn more points for every dollar you spend and get a bigger welcome bonus. It also helps to give additional cards to family members so you can earn points when they shop as well.

Avion works a little bit differently from frequent flyer programs like Aeroplan and Air Miles because it doesn’t offer a membership, which means you won’t earn bonus points for shopping with certain partners. Instead, you’ll receive a flat rate for spending money on your card.

It’s easy to earn points with the RBC Avion Rewards program as long as you use your Avion credit card on eligible purchases including daily expenses (like gas, groceries and drugstore purchases) along with bill payments and one-off purchases. Some cards offer 1 RBC point for every $1 you spend, while others like the RBC ION+ Visa offer up to 3 points for every $1 spent.

Most Avion credit cards will also give you a welcome bonus when you sign up. With this points surplus, you’ll usually be able to afford at least a short-haul flight anywhere in North America. You can also add this to the points you collect in your first year to redeem for many other rewards.

Another way to earn Avion points faster is to keep track of RBC promotions that allow you to earn more points during limited time promotions. You can also pay more for a premium RBC credit card that let’s you earn more points for every dollar spent — plus most RBC premium credit cards will offer a bigger welcome bonus.

Another easy option is to link your RBC Avion card to your Petro Canada account to earn 20% more points when you fill up on gas or purchase other products at Petro Canada stations across Canada.

Aeroplan and Avion are two popular frequent flyer programs in Canada. Both Avion and Aeroplan offer a good mix of travel rewards and benefits, and come with a number of program-affiliated credit cards. The main difference between Avion vs Aeroplan relates to how your membership in the program works:

  • Aeroplan. Aeroplan is a standalone travel rewards program owned by Air Canada that isn’t affiliated with a particular bank. To earn Aeroplan Points (formerly called Aeroplan Miles), you have to sign up for a membership and shop with Aeroplan partners. You can also sign up for a program-affiliated credit card to earn extra points with partners and for making daily purchases.
  • Avion. Avion works a bit differently than Aeroplan in that it’s operated by the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and doesn’t require a membership to participate. Instead, you have to sign up for an Avion credit card to earn points for making everyday purchases. While you won’t earn points for spending money with partners, the selling feature of Avion is that the rewards are fairly flexible and RBC offers a decent customer service program.

How many points can I earn with Avion vs Aeroplan?

You’ll earn a different number of points with Avion vs Aeroplan depending on what kind of credit card you have and whether you can earn extra points with partners.

  • Aeroplan. Aeroplan typically lets you earn one point for every dollar you spend with partners. You can also earn accelerated points when you shop at Aeroplan’s eStore or make purchases with your Aeroplan credit card. Depending on what kind of card you have, you’ll usually be able to earn between 1 and 3 Aeroplan points for every dollar spent on everyday purchases.
  • Avion. The number of points you can earn with Avion will depend on what type of Avion credit card you sign up for. Some cards offer 1 Avion Point for every dollar you spend, while others offer 3 points per dollar. It may take you a bit longer to accumulate points since Avion doesn’t have a network of partners, which makes Avion a less desirable option than Aeroplan for many Canadians.

Keep in mind that it’s not possible to transfer Aeroplan Miles to Avion Rewards, or vice versa. This is because the points have different values and there’s no system for bridging your Aeroplan Miles to Avion.

Summary of program differences: Avion vs Aeroplan

Aventura is CIBC’s rewards program that offers a series of credit cards that let you earn points for every dollar you spend. These cards include fee-free, premium, business and student cards.

You’ll typically earn between 0.5 and 1.5 points for every dollar you spend on your card, and you’ll get a wide selection of benefits based on how much you pay for the annual fee. It’s also possible that you may be able to cash in on extra points by taking advantage of some of CIBC’s promotional offers.

Just like Avion points, many estimates place the value of Aventura Points at around 1 cent per point. You can redeem Aventura Points for hotel stays, car rentals, merchandise, gift cards and bill payments.

There are no major differences between Avion vs Aventura other than which bank each program belongs to as well as what types of cards you can qualify for. Both programs are well-known for offering flexible rewards, no blackout dates on flights and points that don’t expire.

If you value flexible points over the chance to earn more points on every purchase, an Avion Visa is probably a good fit for you. Compare these features to find the best fit for your needs.

  • Return on travel rewards. Earn between 1 and 3 points for every $1 you spend.
  • Welcome offers. You’ll get around 3,500 to 55,000 points when you sign up for an Avion credit card.
  • Annual fee. The RBC ION Visa costs $0 per year, but more premium cards cost $48-$399 per year.
  • Benefits. Each class of card has different benefits, with Visa Infinite cards offering the best bang for your buck.

Before you decide on an RBC Avion Visa, you should compare cards from several frequent flyer programs. This will help you narrow down which card best suits your specific lifestyle and spending habits. Compare the following features to get a better idea of which program to go for.

  • Points to dollars ratio. Aim for a card associated with the frequent flyer program that gives you the best cash for points value.
  • Partner companies. Select the program that partners with the companies you shop at most frequently to earn more points per dollar spent.
  • Points redemption. Think about which card gives you the most options for redeeming your points and look at what you can redeem them for aside from airline tickets.
  • Available airlines. Look at which airlines are willing to accept your points and what restrictions they might place on bookings.

Avion can be worth the time and energy it takes to collect points, especially if you already bank with RBC. Depending on the reward type, you can redeem Avion points through the Avion Rewards website or RBC online banking.

That said, Avion doesn’t work with a network of partners and the points you earn are worth less on average than the miles you’ll accumulate with Aeroplan or Air Miles. The main benefit of Avion points is that you can exchange them for more flexible rewards than what you’ll be able to find with other frequent flyer programs. Avion offers a wider range of redemption options and special perks like no blackout dates and no booking fees when you redeem points for flights.

Are Avion Rewards and RBC Rewards the same?

Yes. On August 25, 2022, RBC Rewards points were renamed Avion Rewards points. RBC Rewards points balances were unaffected by the name change.

What sets Avion apart from other frequent flyer programs?

Avion is well-known for its flexible points systems, especially when it comes to flight redemptions. It also offers no blackout periods on travel, and you won't run into seat restrictions or other booking issues when you fly.

Do I need an RBC Avion Rewards credit card to earn points?

Yes. Unlike Aeroplan and Air Miles , RBC requires you to spend money on your card to earn points. It doesn't work with a network of partners or offer a membership program, so you'll only be able to earn points when you spend money on your credit card.

How do I check my Avion points balance?

You can check your Avion points balance through the Avion Rewards app (available on Google Play and the Apple App Store) or by logging into RBC Online Banking. Go to Accounts Summary, then click on your credit card and you'll be able to see your rewards balance under Avion Rewards at the top of page.

What if I don't want to use my Avion Rewards with RBC?

You can convert your points to other loyalty programs including WestJet dollars and Hudson's Bay Rewards points.

Can I still earn Avion points even if I pay for part of the purchase by redeeming points?

Yes. If you redeem Avion points to pay for part of your purchase, you can still earn points by paying for the rest of the purchase with your card. But you'll only earn points for the portion of the purchase that wasn't covered by points.

Can I exchange my Avion points for cash back?

You won't be able to exchange your points for cash in hand. However, you can apply your points as a statement credit on your credit card, so it will help to pay down your outstanding balance. You can also contribute to RBC investment products, pay down your loans or pay your monthly bills using your points.

Is it possible for my Avion Rewards to expire?

No. Your Avion points will never expire so you can use them whenever you want, even if it's years down the line.

How to Maximize the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule

RBC Avion Rewards is a flexible loyalty program that allows you to redeem points for travel, merchandise, gift cards, and more.

When it comes to redeeming Avion points for travel, you can transfer points to American Airlines AAdvantage , British Airways Executive Club , , Cathay Pacific Asia Miles , and WestJet Rewards , or you can choose to redeem Avion points for flights through the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule.

In This Post

What is the rbc air travel redemption schedule, how does the rbc air travel redemption schedule work, how to book flights with the rbc air travel redemption schedule.

The RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule is one of the ways in which you can redeem RBC Avion points for travel.

Bookings are made through the Avion Rewards portal, which in turn, is powered by Expedia. Therefore, most, if not all, airlines available on Expedia are also accessible through Avion Rewards.

With the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule, you can redeem a fixed number of points to book flights to various destinations. However, it’s important to note that the fixed number of points only applies to a maximum ticket price, which we’ll discuss in detail below.

Note that this redemption option isn’t available to RBC ION Visa or RBC ION+ Visa cardholders, which earn “Avion Premium” points. Rather, the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule is only available with the highest-tier “Avion Elite” points, which can be earned on the following Avion credit cards:

It’s worth noting that you can transfer Avion Premium points earned on an RBC ION or RBC ION+ card into Avion Elite points, if you happen to have both an ION and an Avion credit card.

The 1:1 transfer can be completed in your Avion Rewards account, and it’s certainly worth considering, since Avion Elite points are more flexible than Avion Premium points.

With the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule, you can get a value of up to 2–2.3 cents per Avion point (all figures in CAD).

This is a solid redemption option, since you can redeem Avion points at a much lower rate of 1 cent per point on average – unless, of course, you transfer them to an airline program, which can extract even greater value.

There are six different categories under the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule, with each one based on the flight’s origin and destination.

For example, if you’d like to book a short-haul flight under the Quick Getaways section, 15,000 Avion points will get you round-trip economy flights, with a base fare of up to $350.

You’ll need to pay the same 15,000 points if the base fare totals, say, $100, as you would if the base fare totals $350.

Therefore, you’ll get the best value from your points if you come as close to the maximum permitted ticket price in each category.

Just keep in mind that you’ll also have to cover the taxes and fees on the booking, which you can either pay for with cash, or redeem Avion points at a rate of 1 cent per point.

Furthermore, you can also exceed the maximum ticket price for any itinerary; however, you’ll have to pay the difference in cash, or use more Avion points at a rate of 1 cent per point.

If you’d rather book a one-way flight instead of a round-trip, the number of points required is halved.

The RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule only applies to economy flights, and not for flights in any other class of service.

Quick Getaways

The shortest flight option on the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule, Quick Getaways, also happens to provide the most value per Avion point.

For flights within or to an adjacent Canadian province/territory, and within or to an adjacent US state, the pricing is as follows:

  • 7,500 Avion points for a one-way ticket, with a maximum base fare of $175
  • 15,000 Avion points for a round-trip ticket, with a maximum base fare of $350

At either 7,500 points for $175, or 15,000 points for $350, you’ll score a redemption rate of up to 2.33 cents per Avion point.

Some examples of other flight pairings available under Quick Getaways might include the following:

  • Toronto and New York
  • Winnipeg and Minneapolis
  • Vancouver and Calgary

Unfortunately, airports in Alaska aren’t included under Quick Getaways, despite Alaska being adjacent to British Columbia and the Yukon.

Explore North America

For flights anywhere within the Canada and the US (excluding Hawaii and Alaska), which fall under the Explore North America section of the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule, the pricing is as follows:

  • 17,500 Avion points for a one-way ticket, with a maximum base fare of $375
  • 35,000 Avion points for a round-trip ticket, with a maximum base fare of $750

Either of the two options above yields a value of up to 2.14 cents per point.

With no distance limitations in this section, you could technically fly all the way from Yellowknife to Miami, and the ticket would still fall under the Explore North America category.

Holiday Destinations

Under the Holiday Destinations category of the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule, you may fly between the following areas:

  • Western Canada/US and Mexico, Hawaii, or Alaska
  • Eastern Canada/US and Bermuda, Central America, or the Caribbean

In Canada, the dividing line between Western and Eastern Canada is somewhere between Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Thunder Bay, Ontario – with Winnipeg being the start of Western Canada, and Thunder Bay being the start of Eastern Canada.

For this category, you may redeem Avion points as follows:

  • 22,500 Avion point s for a one-way ticket, with a maximum base fare of $450
  • 45,000 Avion points for a round-trip ticket, with a maximum base fare of $900

Redeeming Avion points this way yields a value of up to 2 cents per Avion point.

Take a Vacation

The Take a Vacation category is the reverse of the Holiday Destinations category above, which allows for the following routing options:

  • Eastern Canada/US and Mexico, Hawaii, or Alaska
  • Western Canada/US and Bermuda, Central America, or the Caribbean

Since these routes are generally longer, you’ll need to redeem more Avion points, outlined as follows:

  • 27,500 Avion points for a one-way ticket, with a maximum base fare of $550
  • 55,000 Avion points for a round-trip ticket, with a maximum base fare of $1,100

Redeeming this way also yields a value of up to 2 cents per Avion point.

Visit Europe

Should you wish to book a trip to Europe, you may fly from any major airport in Canada or the US and redeem your points as follows:

  • 32,500 Avion points for a one-way ticket, with a maximum base fare of $650
  • 65,000 Avion points for a round-trip ticket, with a maximum base fare of $1,300

Interestingly, Hawaii and Alaska are also included under this category, and the redemption also works out to a value of up to 2 cents per Avion point .

See the World

Lastly, the See the World category includes all other destinations not covered by any other categories above.

Under this category, you may fly from Canada or the US to destinations in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South Pacific, Middle East, Africa, and South America, for the following amounts of points:

  • 50,000 Avion points for a one-way ticket, with a maximum base fare of $1,000
  • 100,000 Avion points for a round-trip ticket, with a maximum base fare of $2,000

Similar to the last few categories, the redemption rate is up to 2 cents per Avion point.

To book a flight using the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule, you’ll first have to log into your RBC account, either on the RBC Avion website or through the Avion Rewards app.

As a reminder, you’ll need at least one of the eligible “Avion Elite” cards listed above to book flights with Avion Rewards directly.

Once you log in, select the “Travel” tab, and click “Book Travel”. From there, select “Flights”, and simply search for your desired flight route and dates.

As you search for your preferred flight, you’ll have the option to choose between “Fixed Points Pricing” and “Flexible Points Pricing”.

You’ll want to make sure “Fixed Points Pricing” is selected, since Flexible Points Pricing option will give you a flat redemption value of 1 cent per point (100 points = $1 CAD). If you don’t have enough points in your account to book a flight with the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule, you’ll only see the Flexible Points Pricing option.

From there, you’ll see the available flights, the number of points required, and the amount of taxes and fees you’ll have to pay. Once you’ve selected your preferred flight(s), simply complete the booking process.

If you’re having difficulty finding your desired flights, or if you can’t get online booking to work, you can always phone RBC Travel at (877) 636-2870.

One of the best features of the RBC Avion Rewards program is that you can use your points in multiple ways. The most valuable way to redeem your Avion points is for travel, since it offers the best value in terms of cents per point.

If you choose to redeem points through the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule, there are a few optimizations to keep in mind to make sure you’re getting the most out of your points.

Use the Full Base Fare Limit

To make the most of an RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule booking, you should strive to reach the base fare limit in each category. This way, you’ll get the best return for your points.

In an ideal world, the best available flights for your trip would also max out the allowable base fare. Otherwise, it may not be worth booking flights with extra connections just to maximize your points, if a cheaper direct flight is available instead.

If you aren’t able to get close to the maximum allowed base fare, paying for the flight with cash, and saving your points for other redemptions, might make better sense.

For example, you can redeem 17,500 Avion points for a one-way ticket from Orlando to Toronto, with a maximum base fare of $375.

However, you might be able to find a cheap flight with a base fare of just $75 (CAD).

In this case, you’ll still be required to redeem the full 17,500 Avion points, and you’ll get a suboptimal redemption rate of 0.4 cents per point in the process, instead of the maximum of 2.14 cents per point if you used the full allowable base fare.

To determine the base fare for a flight, pay close attention to the breakdown of prices on the airline’s website. After selecting your flights, you should see a row that shows “Air transportation charges”, and another that displays the taxes, fees, and other charges.

In this area, keep an eye out for an option to view the full price breakdown. In the breakdown, the base fare is displayed under “Air transportation charges”, which is what your RBC Avion points will cover at a fixed rate through the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule.

When you search for the same flights on the RBC Avion Rewards platform, you’ll have to pay the full 17,500 points, even though it’s only covering the $75 base fare, and you’re still on the hook for the remaining taxes and fees.

In this case, you’re much better off just paying cash for the flight, and saving your Avion points for a more valuable redemption instead.

You could also book the same flight using Flexible Points Pricing, and it’d only cost 12,877 Avion points, and you wouldn’t have any out-of-pocket expenses. Just keep in mind that this results in a value of 1 cent per point, which is less than what you can otherwise get through the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule.

However, you’ll also want to make sure that the flight’s base fare isn’t too much more than the maximum allowed. Remember that you’ll be charged the excess amount in cash, or Avion points at a flat rate of 1 cent per point.

Book Positioning Flights

One of the realities of award travel is that there’s frankly much more award availability at US airports than you’d find in Canadian cities.

If you’re able to find an award flight that originates in the United States, you could use the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule to book your positioning flights between Canada and the US.

For example, if you need to catch a positioning flight from Ottawa to New York, from where you’ll depart on a long-haul flight booked with another loyalty program, you could easily book a one-way flight under the Quick Getaways category for only 7,500 points.

The flights you book don’t have to be direct, and as long as your origin and destination fall under the definition of the category, your redemption will qualify.

For instance, flying from Vancouver to Seattle with a stop in San Francisco will still qualify under Quick Getaways, since the origin and destination (British Columbia and Washington, in this case) are adjacent to each other.

Take Advantage of Flexibility

One of the best aspects of the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule is the flexibility it offers. You’re not restricted to a specific airline and its alliance, and you’re not constrained by airline award seat availability and blackout dates, either.

You might find the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule particularly useful for airlines that aren’t part of an alliance, and are otherwise difficult to book with points. Some examples of this might include Philippine Airlines, Caribbean Airlines, and Montreal-based Air Transat.

Furthermore, you could take advantage of the flexibility of the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule by using it in tandem with award seats in other programs, which are usually limited.

For example, let’s suppose you’d like to book a family of four on a summer trip from Toronto to Vancouver. Air Canada’s Aeroplan program has award availability at 12,600 points, but the number of seats available at that price is limited to three.

If you add a fourth passenger to the search, the cost moves up to 19,900 points, which is a considerable jump in price.

Instead, you could book three passengers at the lower cost of 12,600 Aeroplan points, and then look into using the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule to book the fourth seat using Avion points. This would also come in handy if you didn’t have enough Aeroplan points to cover the fourth passenger to begin with.

A flight from Toronto to Vancouver falls under the Explore North America category, which means it’ll cost 17,500 Avion points for a one-way flight, plus around $85 for taxes and fees.

Boost Your Avion Balance with the RBC ION+ Card

Despite its minimal monthly fee, the RBC ION+ Visa actually has the most competitive earning rates among RBC’s line-up.

With the RBC ION+ Visa, you’ll earn 3 Avion points per dollar spent on groceries, dining, food delivery, transit, gas, electric vehicle charging, streaming, and digital gaming. By contrast, you’ll only earn 1 Avion point per dollar spent on those categories with the higher-tier RBC Avion Visa Infinite .

However, remember that you won’t get access to the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule with the ION+ card alone, since the card earns “Avion Premium” points, which can be redeemed for travel at a lower rate of 0.6 cents per point.

On the other hand, if you happen to have both an RBC ION+ Visa and an RBC Avion credit card that earns the higher-tier “Avion Elite” points, you can transfer “Avion Premium” points into “Avion Elite” points.

By doing so, you can redeem them at a higher value, either by transferring them to airline partners, or by making a booking on the Air Travel Redemption Schedule.

Therefore, you can get the best of both worlds by earning Avion Premium points on the RBC ION+ Visa, and then converting them into Avion Elite points, as long as you have an eligible Avion credit card, too.

The RBC Avion Rewards program provides a number of options for you to redeem your points towards travel. You can convert your Avion points to a partner airline, or you can redeem them through the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule.

While you can get great value by transferring Avion points to airline programs, there’s also great value to be found in the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule, potentially unlocking value of up to 2–2.3 cents per Avion point.

If you have a healthy balance of Avion points, be sure to consider the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule the next time you need to book a flight.

How much commission do you make off your RBC links? I read your blog religiously and don’t bother with the other Canadian ones.

Imagine my surprise and annoyance when after applying for my and P2’s Avion Visa Infinite that I learn GCR was offering $100 back!!! Even some blogs are offering $100 back in their own way to people that apply through them.

Either you guys missed it, but the more I read this blog, I suspect you just wanted to keep the extra money for yourselves. Shame on me for forgetting to check GCR and shame on you for withholding info like that just to make a buck.

RBC and Avion Rewards launch strategic loyalty partnership with Pattison Food Group and More Rewards

R BC and Pattison Food Group have launched a new loyalty partnership between  Avion Rewards , Canada's largest proprietary loyalty programme, and  More Rewards , one of Western Canada's leading loyalty programmes from Canada's largest Western-based provider of food and health products.

Upon launch, Canadians shopping at participating Pattison Food Group locations, including Save-On-Foods, will receive unique savings on grocery and everyday purchases, value and wide-ranging benefits from both loyalty programmes,  Avion Rewards  and  More Rewards .

Broadening Avion Rewards grocery offering

RBC and Avion Rewards launch strategic loyalty partnership with Pattison Food Group and More Rewards

HSBC clients may not love their new RBC credit cards, but RBC’s Avion Rewards can be exciting

Barry Choi

A person walks into an HSBC Bank on Yonge Street in Toronto, Nov. 29, 2022. Duane Cole/The Globe and Mail

At the end of the month, HSBC Canada credit cardholders will receive Royal Bank of Canada RY-T cards as part of the biggest domestic banking takeover on record . And some consumers might think they’ll end up with credit cards that are a downgrade.

But that’s not to say you should cancel your cards immediately. RBC Avion Rewards points are still more flexible and potentially more rewarding than what HSBC offered. It is, however, a good time to shop around.

HSBC cardholders have already been informed about which RBC credit card they’ll be getting. That decision was based on what HSBC credit card you currently hold. Most former HSBC credit cardholders will end up with the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card. While it’s great that RBC is adding no foreign transaction fees as a standard benefit to the card and honouring the travel credit HSBC cardholders received for one year as part of the transition, the earning rate is just 1.25 Avion points per dollar spent on travel purchases, and one point on everything else.

If your goal is to earn a lot of points on all your purchases, you might be better off with the American Express Cobalt Card. You’ll earn five points per dollar spent on eats and drinks including grocery stores, three points on streaming services, two points on travel and transit and one point on all other purchases. American Express Membership Rewards points are highly valuable since you can redeem 1,000 points for a $10 statement credit.

Another thing to consider is that the new RBC cards use the Visa network. That means if you mainly used your HSBC card where Mastercard is accepted, such as Costco, you’ll likely want to get a new card regardless.

Rogers, Fido or Shaw customers should look at the Rogers Mastercard as an alternative since they can earn up to 3 per cent in cash back rewards. If you don’t use those service providers, a PC Financial Mastercard or RBC WestJet card are good solutions.

Anyone looking for a card with premium travel benefits might be best served with the American Express Platinum Card, which gives you unlimited airport lounge access, an annual $200 travel credit, hotel status upgrades, a $100 NEXUS credit, travel insurance and a $200 annual dining credit.

Even though there are better credit cards available than what RBC offers, there’s no denying that Avion Rewards – the points you earn with some RBC cards – are highly appealing, so it could be worth sticking around.

The standard redemption rate is 1,000 Avion points for $10 in travel. You also have access to the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule, where you could more than double the value of your points. Alternatively, you can transfer your points to RBC airline partners, such as British Airways, Cathay Pacific, American Airlines and WestJet.

Another redemption worth considering with RBC is 12,000 points for $100 in financial rewards – such as paying down your mortgage or contributing to your registered retirement savings plan. Even though travel redemptions give you better value immediately, financial rewards could be worth more in the long term when you factor in compound interest. However, for this to be beneficial, you would need your mortgage or investments to be with RBC.

It’s worth noting that HSBC users being transitioned to the RBC ION Visa will have their points switched to Avion points at the premium level – Avion Infinite cardholders earn points at the elite level. You won’t lose any value on the points transferred over, but premium tier points are less flexible since they require more points for travel redemptions and have fewer airline transfer partners than the elite tier.

Since the points you’ll earn with the RBC ION Visa also earn you premium tier points, you may want to consider switching to a more lucrative card. That said, you still have access to financial rewards at the premium level, so that’s a good reason to stay.

Despite all of these changes, there’s no reason to rush. All of your cards and points will automatically be transitioned over to RBC with no hit to your credit score by the end of the month.

When you’re ready to review your credit-card needs, you shouldn’t look at just the earning rate and benefits. It’s just as important to consider the points you’ll be earning and what you can redeem them for.

Some people may feel that the RBC credit cards they’re getting aren’t as good as what they currently have with HSBC, but most people will agree that RBC Avion Rewards is a better rewards program.

Avion Rewards teams up More Rewards

RBC Avion Rewards teams up with More Rewards

There’s a new partnership in the Canadian loyalty landscape that will go live later this year. RBC and Pattison Food Group have announced the launch of a new loyalty partnership between RBC’s Avion Rewards and Pattison’s More Rewards .

Here’s how RBC and More Rewards describe this new collaboration:

Upon launch of this powerful partnership, Canadians shopping at participating Pattison Food Group locations, including Save-On-Foods, will receive unique and compelling savings on grocery and everyday purchases, value and wide-ranging benefits from both loyalty programs, Avion Rewards and More Rewards .

We recently saw the first inkling of this partnership with Save-On Foods recently being added to the RBC Offers program which provides statement credits, discounts or bonus points for RBC credit cardholders. The grocery retailer’s offer was also extended to Avion Select , which is the tier of Avion Rewards that is open to all Canadians, not just RBC clients.

I was wondering if there was going to be more to this beyond the Save-On foods offers but it was tough to judge seeing there were other groceries offers from out east added to the offers list including Metro.

What will the partnership entail?

As this is quite early notice of the partnership that hasn’t gone live yet we can only go on what RBC and More Rewards have provided in the press release. They mention “unique and compelling savings” which we already see in one form in RBC Offers and Avion Select, but I would assume it will go beyond that once the partnership is live.

They also mention “This partnership will bring customers even more opportunities to earn points in the future.” so perhaps we’ll see additional More Rewards points for using RBC cards at Pattison Food Group grocery stores just as we see with their current partnership with CIBC.

What about CIBC and AIR MILES link ups with Pattison Food Group?

Currently CIBC customers who pay with their CIBC credit card at More Rewards’ grocery stores earn 2x More Rewards points on those purchases. I would assume this partnership is going to be dissolved prior to More Rewards and Avion Rewards officially launching their partnership. I’ll reach out to my contacts to see if I can get more details on this !

Update: Thanks to Adam M. for letting us know in the comments below that the CIBC-More Rewards partnership will be ending on July 31, 2024.

You may recall that AIR MILES had a card linked offer for Save-On foods not too long after they were no longer partnered with any Empire stores (Sobeys, Safeway etc.) which leads me to believe Pattison Food Group may have been testing the waters with various potential partners including AIR MILES but it is now obvious Pattison has moved on to or chosen RBC and Avion Rewards as the way to go.

Wrapping it up

Like other loyalty partnership announcements of late, this announcement is providing early notice of the link up between RBC Avion Rewards and More Rewards. Almost no details have been revealed as the actual partnership won’t go live for members of both programs until later in the year.

RBC Avion : How to Use Your RBC Avion Points for Travel Rewards

RBC Avion Rewards Credit Cards

There are several RBC Avion credit cards part of the Avion Rewards program . One of the best is the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card .

It has excellent insurance, including one for mobile devices, which is rare. In addition, as a welcome offer, it offers a lot of points with little effort.

Other cards that earn Avion Points are:

  • RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card
  • RBC ION+ Visa Card
  • RBC ION Visa Card
  • RBC ® Avion ® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card
  • RBC Avion Visa Platinum
  • RBC Avion Visa Infinite Business Card
  • RBC Avion Visa Business Card

With this exceptional offer for the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card, you can earn up to 55,000 Avion points:

  • 35,000 Avion points on approval
  • 20,000 Avion bonus points when you spend $5,000 in your first 6 months

You can use your Avion Rewards points for travel or redeem them with other loyalty programs such as :

  • American Airlines AAdvantage
  • British Airways Executive Club (and Qatar Airways Privilege Club)
  • Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
  • WestJet Rewards

For example, with the current welcome offer, you can get 55,000 British Airways Avios Points or 550 WestJet Dollars .

With the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card, you earn 1 point per dollar and 1.25 points for travel purchases.

And you’ll benefit from a wide range of insurance coverage: Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance, Out-of-Province/Country Emergency Medical Insurance, Rental Vehicle Collision/Loss Damage Insurance, Mobile Device Insurance.

How to Use Your Avion Points for Travel Rewards

Use the fixed fare chart for airline tickets.

One way to use your Avion points for travel is with the purchase of an airline ticket. This is the best way to get the most value out of the RBC Avion Rewards program . This is described in detail in this article .

Depending on the destination, 15,000 to 100,000 Avion points are required per ticket.

RBC Avion Rewards points can be used to travel anywhere in the world with a round-trip ticket. A one-way trip requires half as many Avion points. Here is the airfare table for a round-trip flight:

On average this equals about 2 cents per Avion point .

Use the Flexible Fare Chart for Airfare

The Flexible Fare Plan uses 100 Avion points for a $1 discount on your airfare. The transaction must be made directly on the Avion Rewards website, using the flight search tool.

For example, with the flat rate fare, 35,000 points will get you a round-trip ticket anywhere in Canada and the U.S., up to a value of $750.

If you choose to purchase that same $750 ticket with the flexible fare structure , you will need 75,000 points. So using the flexible fee schedule would be more of a disadvantage in this case. It’s up to you to make your calculations, depending on the number of points you have banked.

Redeem Avion Points for Any Trip

For even more flexibility, book your hotel, car rental, cruise or airline tickets as you wish on the Avion Rewards site to have your account credited.

Avion credit cardholders can redeem 100 Avion points to deduct $1 from this travel expense. For example, for a night at the hotel that cost $200, 20,000 points are required to bring the balance down to zero.

For ION and ION+ credit card holders, it’s different. They redeem their points using a conversion rate of 172 points = $1.

Buy Gift Cards

There are approximately 250 gift cards to purchase with Avion points. About ten of these geared towards travel. For example, buying a gift card for future stays at Fairmont or Best Western hotels. Or Tim Hortons, for roadtrips !

Generally, the cost is 1 cent per Avion point, so 5,000 points for a $50 gift card .

Uber is different, with 7,000 points for $50.

Transfer to Other Airline Loyalty Programs

Did you know that it is possible to transfer your Avion points to other airline loyalty programs? We explain how in our tutorial on this subject:

Another way of exchanging RBC points in the event of technical problems

Occasionally, the Avion Rewards site may experience technical difficulties or your flight may not appear in the search results.

During that time, call Avion Rewards Customer Service at 1-800-769-2512.

  • Get an authorization number to book the flight you want;
  • Book your own flight directly on the desired airline’s website;
  • Send an e-mail to [email protected] with your authorization number obtained earlier from Customer Service, your name, the number of tickets reserved, proof of ticket purchase and itinerary details.

Avion Rewards will then deduct the required points from your RBC Rewards points account to credit the cost of your airline tickets, according to their fare structure.

Frequently asked questions about the Avion Rewards program

How many avion points are needed for a free airline ticket.

Depending on the destination, 15,000 to 100,000 Avion points are required.

Can I buy a ticket for another person?

Yes , make sure that the person’s personal information is written down perfectly at the time of booking.

What is the definition of a basic Avion Rewards account?

These are the people enrolled in the Value Program , who earn Avion Rewards points.

Where can I redeem my Avion Rewards points for travel?

Go to the site Avion Rewards or click on the Avion Rewards icon in your RBC Direct Banking session. Then go to the Travel section.

The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) announced that it is expanding its Avion Rewards Program, making its newly launched Avion Select tier membership free and available for all Canadians, no matter where they do their banking . Avion Select members can access up to 40% in savings on everyday purchases from more than 2,400 partners, including McDonald’s, DoorDash, Rexall, Metro, WestJet, Petro-Canada, and more. The Avion Rewards program gives members a chance to earn and redeem points through a wide range of options.

“Accessing value and savings has never been more important for Canadians, and by enabling all of our members to shop, save, earn, and redeem, we’ve created a more inclusive program that offers them limitless choice, freedom, and flexibility. By transforming Avion Rewards and expanding the scale and breadth of our program, we’re able to deliver an end-to-end loyalty experience that brings everyday value to millions of more Canadians while also increasing reach and access for our retail partners,” said Niranjan Vivekanandan, Senior Vice President and Head, Loyalty & Merchant Solutions, RBC.

Avion Select members can enjoy benefits such as earning cashback that is transferrable to any Canadian bank account. Members will also have access to Avion Rewards ShopPlus, a browser extension that searches for the best deals and discounts from thousands of retailers. They’ll also receive access to exclusive experiences and contest opportunities, such as a chance to win tickets to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, as RBC is designated as the Official Financial Services and an Official Ticket Access Partner of the Canadian Eras tour. In addition, members can use points to book their travel through Avion Rewards Travel.

Avion Rewards is promoting the program’s expansion by rolling out its “Leave Limits Behind” campaign, which will employ an omnichannel approach with ads across digital, social media, and television.

“Our goal is to show Canadians the limitless potential of Avion Rewards, moving beyond the constraints of traditional loyalty programs,” finishes Carolyn Hynds, Vice President of Marketing at Avion Rewards.
