One of the oldest ships in the Carnival fleet, Elation was introduced in 1998 and most recently refreshed in 2023. It received some fresh paint, new steam and sauna rooms at the spa and other routine cosmetic updates. Carnival Elation holds 2,190 passengers and 900 crew members. Cruisers can choose from Interior, Ocean View, Balcony and Suite category rooms, all of which offer flat-screen TVs and 24-hour room service. Recent passengers said that while the ship is clearly older, rooms are clean and well-maintained.

Beyond the cabins, entertainment options include the WaterWorks water park, the Punchliner Comedy Club, a piano bar and the Seuss at Sea program. Kids can take part in one of the ships age-appropriate youth clubs, while grown-ups can head to the adults-only Serenity Retreat or sip a cocktail at one of the ship's bars or lounges.

When it's time to eat, passengers have multiple dining options to choose from, including Lido Restaurant, BlueIguana Cantina, Guy's Burger Joint and a three-course main dining room. Although Carnival Elation is by no means intimate, past cruisers agree that the crew members – from the wait staff to the room stewards – are especially friendly and accommodating.

Elation sails to the  Bahamas  from Jacksonville, Florida .

The Carnival cruise ship Elation has a total of 33 wheelchair-accessible cabins (for disabled passengers) and no Spa cabins (with exclusive access to Spa Carnival facilities). The number of all cabin categories is 19.

During the CCL Elation ship's drydock refurbishment in 2017 were added 38 new cabins, of which 2x Grand Vista Suites (GV), 22x Junior Suites, 2x Scenic Oceanview (6J), 12 Interior. Balconies were added to 98 existing cabins (on decks 5-Main, 6-Upper, 7-Empress). This changed the ship's passenger capacity from 2052 (max 2606) to 2128 (max 2554).

Follows the review of Carnival Elation staterooms as amenities, furniture, and complimentary services:

The S&S credit program allows charges on purchases and tips/gratuities directly to a personal account throughout the Carnival cruise. The card has a designated owner and must be utilized for all money transactions on the ship as cash is accepted as a form of payment only at the casino. These cards are provided to all passengers (incl minors) immediately upon boarding the ship. Balance updates are provided at Guest Services desk (at any time). They can also be checked via the interactive/smart TV in each stateroom.

There are 2 complimentary movie channels showing a film every 3 hours (both starting at 12 noon). The following TV channels are Carnival-themed and also complimentary: Fun Finds TV, Cruise Director, Fun Aboard, Park West Art, Shore Tours, Ship Position, live cam views (webcams positioned forward and on lido deck), Audible Funtimes, Photo, Music. Sporting events (ESPN, ESPN 2) are shown only on big screens – at the ship’s Sports Bar and Seaside Theatre (not in cabins/suites). All the TV’s connection ports are intentionally disabled, which makes it impossible to connect it with personal devices (cameras, DVDs, USBs, iPods, gaming consoles, etc).

Bathroom amenities vary each time, so it’s advisable you bring your own. Samples may include toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss, body lotion, razor, antiacids. There is a wall-mounted dispenser in the shower stall (for liquid soap and shampoo). Electric power outlets are located in the desk/vanity area – one 110 V outlet (3-pronged, USA grounded) and one 220 V outlet (European standard). They are available in 3 sizes – adult, child, and infant. Each of the cabins has a safe (located in the closet) with approx dimensions (inches/centimeters) – width (10/25), height (9/23) and depth (8/20). Cabin safes can be accessed by any magnetic strip card. It is advisable not to use a valid credit card (or driver’s license), but an old expired card (or some rewards card) instead. Some safes are with a keypad (personal code). Safes can be opened also by the ship’s security.

All cruise cabin and suite mini-bars are stocked with premium liquors ($6-9,25), beer ($6,25), energy drinks ($5), soft soda/beverages ($2), bottled water ($3,75). In-cabin babysitting is not available (read more at Camp Ocean below). All guests can also specify how often the bed linens to be changed during the cruise. Your personal preferences can be selected from a services menu card left in each of the ship’s staterooms. Carnival Elation

About Carnival Elation

Carnival Elation was one of the first of Carnival Cruise Line's popular Fantasy-class ships and has been delighting cruisers of all age groups ever since. Chock full of amenities and activities, she was designed to create a fun-filled vacation for everyone in the family. Welcoming and comfortable, the 70,367-ton, 2,052-guest ship is sure to give you the time of your life! Fabulous upgrades in 2009 have modernized her as part of the line's "Evolutions of Fun" refurbishment program, including an adults-only sundeck, remodeled staterooms, suites and bathrooms and flat-screen TVs. Further enhancements are scheduled for late 2017.

Excitement is everywhere on the Carnival Elation, from its bustling multi-deck atrium to the spiraling three-level-high Twister Waterslide offering thrills at every turn. Relaxing amenities also abound, such as three swimming pools, six Jacuzzis and the Mark Twain Library, a quiet area where you can catch up on your reading. Indulge in a soothing treatment such as a hot stone massage at the 12,000-square-foot Spa Carnival. Try a new style at the Beauty Salon and keep in shape at the Fitness Center. Find the perfect gift at the Fun Shops.

Throughout Carnival Elation are fun bars and lounges where you can have conversations and your favorite drink. Relaxing Gatsby's, the swinging Duke's Piano Bar and the beautiful Plaza Bar in the lobby are just some of the popular venues. Stroll along the Promenade and stop in the Drama Bar. Another hot spot is the bustling Jekyll and Hyde Dance Club, complete with a DJ.

Both adults and kids will find plenty to do. Supervised age-specific fun youth activities will keep kids from ages 2 to 11 years happy and busy at Camp Carnival, which is like a summer camp, but at sea. Delighting children, is Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast with The Cat in the Hat and Friends. Circle "C" club offers a "cool" place for those ages 12 to14 with a host of video games, dance parties, Karaoke and more. Pleasing teenagers ages 15-17 isn't easy, but they are sure to be thrilled with their very own Club 02 — open around the clock — with music, video games, food and new friends. Families can play 9-hole mini-golf course, shoot some hoops and jog around the padded track at the City Sports Park.

Be as active or not as you like on Carnival Elation. Quiet will surround you at the adults-only Serenity Retreat — a delightful oasis of tranquility. Experience this blissful area with swaying hammocks in the sea breeze and enjoy your favorite drink from the nearby bar as your cares simply melt away while you plan your next exciting day.

Treat your palate to a variety of delicious cuisine from an ever changing menu at the two grand main dining rooms, Inspiration and Imagination, serving exquisite cuisine, including healthy Spa Carnival selections, as well as vegetarian choices. The Taste Bar is another choice, while the Chef's Table is a foodie favorite. International cuisines and made-to-order options will make your taste buds smile at the poolside Tiffany's, featuring the Mongolian Wok custom stir-fry station, a deli and a dessert station with mouthwatering delights. Satisfy that craving for something tasty at the Pizza Pirate, known for its popular hand-tossed pizza. Stop in for specialty coffees, rich milkshakes and scrumptious desserts at the Musical Café.

After a day of fun, return to your comfortable home base. Settle in for the night in your choice of accommodations. Select from an Interior, Ocean View, Grand or Suite, all well-appointed. Enjoy the many perks, day or night a room steward will be available. Have your attendant call for your complimentary room service offered 24/7. After all, you are on vacation!

Exciting evenings include a dazzling Las Vegas-style production at the two-level Mikado Theatre and a show at the Cole Porter Club, where you can enjoy a more intimate ambiance. Go dancing and have an unforgettable time at the many music-filled piano bars, Duke's Gatsby's and the Musical Café. Hang out with your friends, family and fellow passengers at the Drama Bar or Romeo and Juliet Lounge. Hang out at the stunning Plaza Bar in the beautiful main atrium. Play some poker or slot games at the Casablanca Casino where the action never stops.

Carnival Elation sails on short cruises year-round to the Bahamas.

Pizzeria

The On Carnival ships, the captain tends to be kind of a big deal — almost a celebrity. On a few select ships, they’ve even got their own pizza kitchen. The best part? Pizzeria del Capitano is open to everyone, 24 hours a day! And since our captains tend to be Italian, you know the quality of the ingredients truly pass muster. (Sorry, nautical pun.) Hand-tossed dough, made from imported Italian flour, plus fresh mozzarella form a solid base, and a choice of toppings put the finishing touches on this piping hot, fresh-from-the-oven mealtime — or anytime — classic.

And these good looks go beyond the usual — we even offer services like teeth whitening… great for taking those ‘I’m on vacation and I’m looking great!’ smiles to the next level.

Fitness center

Fitness center

We have some bad news for you — your ship has a gym. In other words, there’s no excuse for leaving your fitness routine back on land. That’s great news, however, for your body, which will definitely benefit from all the extra energy that vacationing pumps directly into you. And let’s not forget the extra time you’ll have, since you won’t be waking up and spending most of the day at the office or anything like that. If those were some of your go-to excuses, we’re sorry, but we all know this is important. Why not treat yourself to some of our fitness classes — you might even have a little fun while you do something great for yourself!

Sometimes you just need to get away… from all that vacation. We know — sitting at home, it’s hard to imagine that, but trust us — it’s really, really nice to have a place to unwind from the day’s excitement. Escape to a world designed, from the ground up, for relaxation. Cloud 9 Spa™ staff are masters (or, maybe more like artists) trained in the craft of simply helping you chill. What’s their secret? Massages, facials, body wraps, thermal suites and more — plus, on certain ships, the amazing Hydrotherapy Pool — these are the tools of the trade. And the trade is ultimate relaxation.

Steam

The little ones can enjoy the best parts of summer camp, year-round aboard their Carnival cruise. At Camp Ocean kids will have a blast in supervised, age-based groups and give each a cool marine-life label: Penguins (2 to 5 years), Stingrays (6 to 8 years) and Sharks (9 to 11 years). Together with their group they’ll enjoy tons of fun-filled, age-appropriate activities like arts and crafts, songs, games, toys, dancing, movies and video games.

Jacksonville will get a second cruise ship when Norwegian Cruise Line joins Carnival

the elation carnival cruise

Norwegian Cruise Line is on its way to Jacksonville in 2025, giving cruise travelers boarding here a second option for their tropical voyages.

The JaxPort board unanimously approved an agreement Tuesday for a 2,394-passenger Norwegian Cruise Line ship that will offer seasonal sailings starting in November 2025 from Jacksonville to the Bahamas and the Eastern Caribbean. Some of the trips will be 11-day and 12-day voyages, adding a longer cruise option than exists today from Jacksonville.

"There's been a lot of buzz around town about this move, so let's get right to it," JaxPort CEO Eric Green said as he brought the agreement before the board at a special meeting.

The ship called the "Norwegian Gem" will depart from Jacksonville between November and April every year through 2028. It will use the same JaxPort cruise terminal as Carnival Cruise Line.

Talleyrand shift: Enstructure will become one of JaxPort's biggest tenants. Here's the cargo it will move.

More: JaxPort gets $13.7 million in relief money to offset pandemic-cost cruise business loses

Carnival Cruise Line has had a ship sailing out of Jacksonville since 2004, currently with the Elation ship to the Bahamas. Carnival will keep doing its year-round trips out of Jacksonville.

Green said Carnival is the cruise line "that got us to the dance" and will continue to be a mainstay of the city's cruise business.

"It was always a question of whether or not we could host two cruise lines at the same time, but we're able to do it," he said.

What does Norwegian bring to Jacksonville?

Norwegian , known for its colorful hull art , is one of the biggest cruise operators in the world with trips spanning the globe. Headquartered in Miami, Norwegian has used Port Canaveral, Miami and Tampa as its departure ports from Florida. Norwegian cruises also go to Key West. Jacksonville will become its latest homeport.

"Today marks a new milestone in the relationship between Norwegian Cruise Line and JaxPort," company president David J. Herrara said.

Norwegian is no stranger to Jacksonville. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Norwegian moved three of its ships — the "Norwegian Sky," “Norwegian Gem“ and "Norwegian Pearl" — to JaxPort docks in 2020 because of the industry's  voluntary suspension of cruises . That shutdown forced cruise lines to bring their ships back to ports and PortMiami didn't have enough room for all the ships, so Jacksonville stepped in to offer dock space.

The cruise ships didn't let any passengers on board during their time in Jacksonville. Now Norwegian is set to put the "Norwegian Gem" on the itinerary for cruise passengers out of Jacksonville.

Norwegian will start taking reservations on Feb. 15 at its web site ncl.com for a mix of travel itineraries.

The three 12-day and two 11-day round-trip journeys each year will depart Jacksonville and make calls on Great Stirrup Cay, the cruise line's private island in the Bahamas, with other stops at Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas and St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Antigua, Basseterre in St. Kitts, San Juan in Puerto Rico, and other destinations.

Norwegian also will have four-day and five-day cruises to the Bahamas with stops at Great Stirrup Cay, Freeport, and Nassau.

The "Norwegian Gem's" capacity of 2,394-passengers would be a bump up in size from the Carnival Elation whose normal guest capacity is 2,052 when estimating two guests per stateroom, according to JaxPort.

The "Norwegian Gem" was built in 2007 and refurbished in 2015. It sails now from Boston.

The JaxPort cruise terminal is off Heckscher Drive west of Interstate 295 and the Dames Point bridge. The height of the bridge limits the size of cruise ships that can pass under its so the jumbo-sized ships that use Port Canaveral and Miami are too large to call on Jacksonville.

Jacksonville has built its cruise business by catering to travelers who like the convenience of boarding here rather than driving farther south. In November, Jacksonville surpassed the 3 million mark for cruise passengers . JaxPort says the city is a growing drive-to cruise market with 98 million consumers living in driving distance of the cruise terminal.

How did JaxPort strike the deal with Norwegian?

The four-year agreement will have three two-year renewal options. JaxPort will pay Norwegian a $2.7 million trademark licensing fee. Norwegian will pay $1.6 million per year to JaxPort to use the cruise terminal.

The contract talks began late last year and moved quickly to reach a deal for Norwegian to use the JaxPort cruise terminal.

In addition to Norwegian's experience of JaxPort from when its ships docked here during the pandemic, the company's Seven Seas Navigator boat has come to Jacksonville for port-of-call visits. A division of Norwegian operates the 496-passenger Seven Seas.

"Today's agreement is a natural evolution of that partnership," Green told the board.

The deal also had a personal connection between Green and Juan Kuryla, the senior vice president of port development and construction for Norwegian. Kuryla previously was port director and CEO of PortMiami so he knew Green from their work in the port industry. In the "it's a small world" nature of that industry, JaxPort almost hired Kuryla to be its CEO in 2013 but Kuryla decided to stay at PortMiami.

When he interviewed for the JaxPort CEO job back then, Kuryla said he would want to bring more cargo and cruise ships to Jacksonville.

He represented the company Tuesday afternoon and told the board Norwegian was pleased at the relationship it has with JaxPort.

"Something we like to say is we go where we are wanted," he said. "We go where we are felt as a partner and as a stakeholder."

City Council President Ron Salem and Mayor Donna Deegan's chief of staff Darnell Smith joined JaxPort leaders for the ceremonial signing of the agreement.

"We all know our city is a gem, and soon it will be fitting to have this ship at our port," Salem said in remarks to the board.

Smith noted a study found the cruise industry in Jacksonville generates about 800 jobs, thousands of hotel room nights, and $187 million of economic impact.

He said when people come to Jacksonville for their cruises, he hopes they will spend time and money in the city's various neighborhoods as part of their vacations.

"We want them to enjoy Jacksonville," he said. "We want them to see all the great things we have to offer."
