Game Results Between the Vikings & Lions

The Vikings and Lions rivalry is one of the most lopsided rivalries in the NFL. Playing twice a year since the Vikings entered the league in 1961, the Vikings have been largely dominant in the all-time series, winning 80 of their 123 total match ups. Through the 1970s and 2000s specifically, the Vikings beat the Lions 35 times in their 40 total games in those 10-year periods.

Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings History

In the early years of the rivalry, the Lions were dominant, winning the first six matchups between the two teams. However, the Vikings quickly turned the tables and went on to win 13 of the next 15 meetings.

One of the most memorable games in the history of the rivalry came on Thanksgiving Day in 1995. The Lions were leading the game 38-17 in the third quarter, but the Vikings stormed back to tie the game and send it into overtime. In overtime, Minnesota kicker Fuad Reveiz kicked a game-winning field goal to complete the comeback and give the Vikings a 44-38 victory.

Despite the Vikings’ overall success in the rivalry, the Lions have also had their share of memorable victories. In 2011, the Lions beat the Vikings 34-28 in a game that featured a 78-yard touchdown pass from Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford to wide receiver Calvin Johnson.

Off the field, the rivalry between the Lions and Vikings is fueled by the proximity of the two teams. Detroit and Minneapolis are just over 600 miles apart, and many fans of both teams live in the same region of the country. This has led to a friendly but fierce rivalry between the two fan bases.

Where Do the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions Play?

The Minnesota Vikings have called U.S. Bank Stadium home since its completion in 2016. Sitting on the site of the old Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis, the U.S. Bank Stadium is one of the only fixed-roof, enclosed stadiums in the NFL. Host to Super Bowl LII in 2018 , U.S. Bank Stadium has opened its doors to a variety of sporting and entertainment events, including arena concerts for iconic acts like Metallica, and the 2018 ESPN X Games.

Ford Field is an enclosed stadium located across Brush Street from Commercial Park in downtown Detroit. It became the home field of the Detroit Lions upon its completion in 2002, replacing the Pontiac Silverdom. The architectural firm Smith Group incorporated the former Hudson’s store warehouse into the construction of the stadium, paying homage to the industrial history of the town. The arena has a 65,000-person capacity for football games and hosts up to 80,000 fans for basketball games. The stadium is also home to hockey and soccer games as well as musical performances, and hosted the NCAA Final Four in 2009.

lions and vikings tour

The Detroit Lions got their first win of the season on Sunday at Ford Field, capping off an excellent weekend of Detroit and Michigan sports with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown as time expired to lift the Lions over the Minnesota Vikings, 29-27.

Lions beat Vikings on final play following long drive

The Lions take over at their own 25, trailing 27-23 with 1:50 to go in the game and no timeouts.

A second-down incompletion brings up third-and-10, where Godwin Igwebuike gets the ball to the 48 of Detroit, then gets out of bounds for a first down.

Then two more completions make it first-and-10 at the Minnesota 33. 44 seconds left.

After another first down, Detroit takes a delay of game. They pick up a first down at the 19, spike it, and have 12 seconds left. Another completion gets Detroit to the 11.

The Lions take over at their own 19, leading 23-21 with 5:32 left in the game.

The Lions can't make the line-to-gain on a third-and-1 situation, and will apparently look to go for it on fourth-and-inches at their own 28.

Timeout #2 Detroit (4:08 4th)

The Lions for some reason try to throw it, and that results in Goff getting strip-sacked for a loss of 8. The Vikings will get it at the 19.

Lions 23, Vikings 21 (4:01 4th)

Alexander Mattison rushes for 4, Justin Jefferson gets 4, and it's third-and-2. Huge play.

Mattison is stuffed, they bring out the chains, and he got just enough. It's first-and-goal at the 9.

Mattison scampers to the 4 on first down.

Two-minute warning.

Mattison is stuffed for a gain of 1 on second down, and that'll make it third-and-goal at the 3.

Timeout #3 Detroit (1:54 4th)

Touchdown, Justin Jefferson. The Vikings take the lead.

The Vikings line up for a 2-point attempt, and it fails. They lead by 4.

END 3RD: Lions 23, Vikings 15

K.J. Osborn hauls in a 21-yard pass on third down to keep the drive alive and give Minnesota first-and-10 at the 39 of Detroit. A 14-yard gain on the next play gets Minnesota to the 25.

The Lions stop Mattison for no gain on first down.

Timeout #1 Detroit (13:26 4th)

The timeout apparently didn't help Detroit, because Mattison scampers for a 16-yard reception that gives Minnesota first-and-goal at the 8.

Alex Anzalone swats away a pass from the 5 on second down, bringing up third-and-goal. Osborn hauls in a diving pass in the end zone, and the Vikings will get an extra yard on the 2-point attempt because Charles Harris is flagged for roughing the passer.

Mattison is stuffed short of the goal line on the 2-point attempt, and the Lions maintain their lead.

Lions 23, Vikings 21 (11:57 4th)

Lions extend lead to 23-15 near end of 3Q

The Lions take over at their own 25, looking to scrape together some momentum after what's been a pretty terrible start to the third quarter.

T.J. Hockenson draws a pass interference flag on Bashaud Breeland that gives the Lions first-and-10 at Minnesota's 36.

An incompletion and run for no gain brings up third-and-10: Williams picks up 5 on third down, and the Lions will try a 49-yard field goal.

Lions 23, Vikings 15 (1:56 3rd)

Lions go 3-and-out again, give up first TD

The Lions take over at their own 25, leading 20-9 with 9:26 to go in the third quarter.

Lions 20, Vikings 9 (7:49 3rd)

On the first play of the Vikings' drive, Kirk Cousins evades trouble, winds up, and lets go of a bomb that finds its way into the hands of Justin Jefferson for a gain of 48 yards to the Detroit 19.

But the Lions are able to force third-and-6 after a second-down incompletion. Tyler Conklin hangs onto the third-down throw for a gain of 7 to the 8-yard-line, where it'll be first-and-goal.

Alexander Mattison scores a play later, but the Vikings aren't able to convert the 2-point attempt. The Lions lead sits at 5.

Lions 20, Vikings 15 (6:13 3rd)

The Lions take over at their own 25, leading 20-6, to start the third quarter.

Mattison runs it twice to make it first-and-10 at the 12. The Vikings take a holding penalty on first down, though, and that'll make it first-and-20.

Amani Oruwariye nearly has an easy interception, but he drops it. A second-down completion brings up third-and-11, where Tyler Conklin goes up for a throw in the end zone that's initially ruled a touchdown, but after review, he didn't get his other foot down.

The Vikings will be forced to try another field goal. Greg Joseph makes it from 31 yards out.

END 2ND: Lions 20, Vikings 6

The Vikings take over at their own 25, and immediately get a 14-yard gain from Alexander Mattison.

But after a 2-yard run by Mattison on the next play, Charles Harris comes up huge for the Lions again and sacks Kirk Cousins for a loss of 6. He's in the backfield again, hitting Cousins, as he lets go of a third-down pass that goes for 6 to end the drive.

Lions 14, Vikings 6 (7:06 2nd)

The Lions will take over at their own 10 to start the drive. A couple short gains get Detroit first-and-10 at the 20, where a neutral zone infraction and 6-yard run moves the chains again.

Jamaal Williams runs for 8, then 2 to move the chains.

Josh Reynolds then gets open for a 27-yard reception that puts Detroit at the Minnesota 27.

Jared Goff picks up another first down with a 7-yard pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown, as Williams runs for 3 yards on the next play.

Timeout #1 Detroit (11:16 2nd)

Charles Harris strip-sacks Kirk Cousins, and it's scooped up by the Lions' Julian Okwara and returned to the 44 of the Lions, where it'll be first-and-10, Detroit.

Lions 7, Vikings 6 (11:08 2nd)

The Lions move downfield with a 5-yard run by Jamaal Williams, a 28-yard completion to Josh Reynolds, and a 23-yard touchdown pass to Brock Wright. This Lions offense is on fire, folks.

It'll be first-and-10 at the 42 when we come back to start the second quarter.

END 1ST: Vikings 6, Lions 0

Jared Goff drops a dime to T.J. Hockenson, who is hit hard and draws an unncessary roughness penalty that puts Detroit at the 15 of Minnesota, first-and-10.

Goff finds Hockenson in the end zone just two plays later to give the Lions their first lead.

Lions 7, Vikings 6 (13:50 2nd)

Vikings add to lead with another FG

The Lions take over at their own 25, trailing 3-0 with 6:49 left in the first quarter.

Greg Joseph makes the 41-yard field goal.

Injury alert: Vikings WR Adam Thielen was hurt on the play.

The ensuing punt goes for a touchback.

Lions 0, Vikings 0 (12:01 1st)

The Lions take over at their own 20, and quickly get to the 32 with a pair of runs by Jamaal Williams. After a first-down incompletion, T.J. Hockenson just drops the second-down throw that could have moved the chains.

Kalif Raymond's third-down catch isn't enough to move the chains, and the Lions are lining up to go for it on fourth-and-1 from their own 41: Jared Goff sneaks it on fourth down, and after the chain gang comes out to measure, they're about an inch short.

Turnover on downs.

Lions 0, Vikings 0 (9:40 1st)

The Lions are back in action for the first time since their Thanksgiving Day stumble against the Chicago Bears.

Winless Detroit (0-10-1) will try to break through against another NFC North foe as the Minnesota Vikings (5-6) visit Ford Field on Sunday.

The Lions will be without their top offensive threat, running back D'Andre Swift, who is dealing with a shoulder injury. The Vikings will likely be without their top rusher, Dalvin Cook.

Can Detroit's Jared Goff or Minnesota's Kirk Cousins make things happen through the air?

About Lions vs. Vikings

Vikings vs lions tickets.

There are so many fierce rivalries in the NFC North that it’s easy to forget about one or two of them. However, the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions have a rivalry that should never be forgotten or overlooked. They have met twice every year since Minnesota’s first season in 1961 and have never ceased to get on one another’s nerves. Of course, both teams have experienced their fair share of struggles and heartbreak, which only makes each game they play against one another that much more important.

Vikings vs Lions

In well over 100 all-time meetings between the Vikings and Lions, Minnesota has a healthy advantage in this rivalry. The Vikings were particularly dominant over Detroit during the 1970s and the first decade of the 2000s. However, the Lions have never failed to back down. It’s that attitude that has kept the Vikings-Lions rivalry alive and kicking for over half a century.

Of course, one thing that the Lions and Vikings have in common is that both play in domes, mostly out of necessity because of the cold weather during football season. U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis has quickly become one of the top sporting venues in the country since opening in 2016. It has the look of a cathedral on the outside, while inside “The Ship,” Vikings fans create an incredible game-day atmosphere. Meanwhile, Ford Field in Detroit was brilliantly designed as an homage to the city’s working-class and automotive roots. Even inside a dome, fans at Ford Field are privy to natural sunlight and gorgeous views of the Detroit skyline from the stadium’s south entrance.

Finding Cheap Vikings vs Lions Tickets

If you’re hoping to score cheap Vikings vs Lions tickets at the last minute, stay where you are. This is where fans go to check out dates, times, and ticket prices for every game involving these NFC North rivals. Even when tickets are in high demand, this is the place to find tickets at the last minute.

Whether you want Vikings tickets for a game at U.S. Bank Stadium or you’d rather get your hands on Detroit Lions tickets for a trip to Ford Field, we’ll be happy to help. NFL Draft 2024 needs for Bears, Lions, Packers, and Vikings in NFC North, plus pick breakdown

The 2024 NFL Draft is days away. What do the teams in the NFC North need?

NFC Championship - Detroit Lions v San Francisco 49ers

We are officially one week away from the 2024 NFL Draft .

Which makes today the perfect day to spin around the NFC North.

Why? Because a week from tonight Roger Goodell will officially declare the 2024 NFL Draft underway. In Detroit. And the first time on the clock? The Chicago Bears .

And a team that might rock the first round with a stunning trade up the board? The Minnesota Vikings .

It is almost like we planned this ...

Last season the Detroit Lions shocked the NFL world, advancing to the NFC Championship Game where they lost on the road to the San Francisco 49ers .

Just what do they need to get over that last hurdle?

Cornerback is again a need, particularly in the wake of the team releasing Cam Sutton after a warrant was issued for his arrest for domestic battery. They also need to add depth at a number of positions, from pass rusher and safety on the defensive side of the football to wide receiver and offensive line. While the Lions returned the bulk of their offensive line — and added Kevin Zeitler at right guard — backup options would be a wise investment.

Detroit Lions draft selections

  • Round 1, Selection 29 (Pick No. 2 overall)

  • Round 6, Selection 29 (Pick No. 205 overall)
  • Round 7, Selection 29 (Pick No. 249 overall)

We can look at the Chicago Bears a few different ways.

First off, the Bears do not have a ton of draft capital at their disposal, as they currently hold just four picks in the upcoming NFL Draft. Which might be okay, given the fact they addressed a number of needs already in free agency, adding players like Kevin Byard, D’Andre Swift, Gerald Everett, and Keenan Allen. The Bears also re-signed some key players, such as cornerback Jaylon Johnson.

But there are glaring needs, starting with quarterback. Followed by adding another pass catcher for that QB to target in the passing game.

Thankfully, two of their four selections are inside the top ten, so Chicago should be able to address those needs early. Later in the draft look for the Bears to add some depth in the trenches.

Chicago Bears draft selections

  • Round 1, Selection 1 (Pick No. 1 overall)
  • Round 1, Selection 9 (Pick No. 9 overall)
  • Round 3, Selection 11 (Pick No. 75 overall)
  • Round 4, Selection 22 (Pick No. 122 overall)

NFC Divisional Playoffs - Green Bay Packers v San Francisco 49ers

One of the most pressing needs in Green Bay was safety, but the organization addressed that need with the addition of Xavier McKinney, who might fit perfectly in the defense we expect to see under new DC Jeff Hafley. Expect Green Bay to perhaps add a safety later in the draft for additional depth. As the Packers build their new defense under Hafley, linebacker and cornerback are some other needs.

The release of David Bakhtiari means tackle becomes a more pressing issue on offense. Jordan Morgan, Amarius Mims, and Tyler Guyton have been popular picks for the Packers in mock drafts.

Thankfully, the Packers have a ton of draft capital at their disposal.

Green Bay Packers draft selections

  • Round 1, Selection 25 (Pick No. 25 overall)
  • Round 2, Selection 9 (Pick No. 41 overall)
  • Round 2, Selection 26 (Pick No. 58 overall)
  • Round 3, Selection 24 (Pick No. 88 overall)
  • Round 3, Selection 27 (Pick No. 91 overall)
  • Round 4, Selection 26 (Pick No. 126 overall)
  • Round 5, Selection 34 (Pick No. 169 overall)
  • Round 6, Selection 26 (Pick No. 202 overall)
  • Round 6, Selection 43 (Pick No. 219 overall)
  • Round 7, Selection 25 (Pick No. 245 overall)
  • Round 7, Selection 35 (Pick No. 255)

The most pressing need for the Vikings? Quarterback. Yes the team added Sam Darnold to the roster this offseason, but with Kirk Cousins now in Atlanta — and questions surfacing about how deep the 2025 crop of passers will be — this might be the year for Minnesota to add a QB at the top of the draft.

The Vikings have been rumored to make an aggressive move towards the top of the board for one of the top quarterbacks, but they do have other needs. They added Jonathan Grennard in free agency, but another pass rusher is an option for general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.

Additions to the trenches on both sides of the ball would be wise, and then there is the wide receiver room. With Jordan Addison and Justin Jefferson the Vikings have a tremendous WR tandem, but another option at receiver makes sense.

Especially when you consider Jefferson is a free agent in 2025.

Minnesota Vikings draft selections

  • Round 1, Selection 11 (Pick No. 11 overall)
  • Round 1, Selection 23 (Pick No. 23 overall)
  • Round 4, Selection 8 (Pick No. 108 overall)

  • Round 5, Selection 22 (Pick No. 157 overall)
  • Round 5, Selection 32 (Pick No. 167 overall)
  • Round 6, Selection 1 (Pick No. 177 overall)
  • Round 7, Selection 10 (Pick No. 230 overall)

NFL mock draft 4.0: Detroit Lions stick with OL; who trades up for Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy?

lions and vikings tour

The closer we get to draft day, the more convinced I am quarterbacks will go 1-2-3-4 for the first time in modern draft history.

There are too many quarterback-needy teams and too many tantalizing quarterbacks available for any of Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy to slip out of the top five, and I think one team — either the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants or Denver Broncos — will be motivated to trade up and get one.

I've incorporated trades into my mock for the first time this spring. Nothing too crazy, but enough to have a sense of who might go where and when.

No. 1 Chicago Bears: QB Caleb Williams, USC

The consensus on social media is that Lions fans will start a “Jar-ed Goff” chant when NFL commissioner Roger Goodell walks to the stage next Thursday to announce this pick.

NFL DRAFT HUB: Latest NFL Draft mock drafts, news, live picks, grades and analysis.

No. 2 Washington Commanders: QB Jayden Daniels, LSU

There’s been a lot of J.J. McCarthy buzz at No. 2 recently, but I’m sticking with Daniels, the dual-threat Heisman Trophy winner.

No. 3 New England Patriots: QB Drake Maye, North Carolina

This is the worst landing spot for a quarterback, given how barren the Patriots’ roster is.

No. 4 — TRADE — Minnesota Vikings (originally Cardinals): QB J.J. McCarthy, Michigan

The Vikings don’t have second- or third-round picks, but they can’t afford to haggle over the trade-up price and risk not getting their quarterback after dealing for a second first-rounder.

No. 5 Los Angeles Chargers: OT Joe Alt, Notre Dame

Give Jim Harbaugh his pick of the best nonquarterbacks in the draft and of course he’ll start with a lineman.

No. 6 New York Giants: WR Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State

The Giants are another trade-up candidate for McCarthy, but the draft's best receiver is a nice consolation prize if they sit tight.

No. 7 Tennessee Titans: WR Malik Nabers, LSU

The Titans could take just about any position here and find an immediate starter.

No. 8 Atlanta Falcons: Edge Dallas Turner, Alabama

It’s a coin flip here between Turner and Florida State edge rusher Jared Verse, but Turner gets the nod because he's two years younger.

NFL DRAFT PREVIEW: Kicker who kept Michigan Panthers' Jake Bates on bench tops draft class

No. 9 — TRADE — Arizona Cardinals (originally Bears): WR Rome Odunze, Washington

Much like they did last year, moving down to No. 12, then trading up with the Lions, the Cardinals get a haul to move down from No. 4 then move up and still get one of the best receivers in the draft.

No. 10 New York Jets: OT Olu Fashanu, Penn State

The Jets are all-in for what might be Aaron Rodgers’ last season, but they just signed a left tackle who hasn’t played a full season since 2015 so some insurance is in order.

No. 11 — TRADE — Chicago Bears (Originally Vikings): Edge Jared Verse, Florida State

The Bears have the first and ninth picks in Round 1, but only two other picks in the draft. By dealing down from nine, they get extra draft capital to build their roster and another pass rusher to pair with Montez Sweat.

No. 12 Denver Broncos: CB Quinyon Mitchell, Toledo

Sean Payton has to have something up his sleeve at quarterback, but there’s no one left worth taking at No. 12.

No. 13 Las Vegas Raiders: CB Terrion Arnold, Alabama

Back-to-back cornerbacks for AFC West teams who still have to figure out a way to beat Patrick Mahomes.

No. 14 New Orleans Saints: OL Taliese Fuaga, Oregon State

Fuaga likely would be a Day One starter at right tackle, but also could play inside if needed.

No. 15 Indianapolis Colts: TE Brock Bowers, Georgia

The Colts give second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson a trusty safety valve in the draft’s best tight end.

No. 16 Seattle Seahawks: DT Byron Murphy, Texas

Murphy has long been connected to the Seahawks and new coach Mike Macdonald as the best interior lineman in the draft.

No. 17 Jacksonville Jaguars: WR Brian Thomas, LSU

Christian Kirk and Gabe Davis won’t cut it as Trevor Lawrence’s top options at wide receiver.

No. 18 Cincinnati Bengals: OL Troy Fautanu, Washington

The Bengals will be back in the Super Bowl mix next season if they can keep Joe Burrow healthy.

No. 19 Los Angeles Rams: DT Jer’Zhan Newton, Illinois

Aaron Donald retired, so why not grab his replacement in the draft?

More: Detroit Lions host Illinois DT, potential 1st-round pick Johnny Newton on pre-draft visit

No. 20 Pittsburgh Steelers: OL Graham Barton, Duke

A college left tackle who might play center in the NFL, Barton is considered safer and more versatile than Oregon’s Jackson Powers-Johnson.

No. 21 Miami Dolphins: Edge Laiatu Latu, UCLA

Latu won’t be on every team’s draft board because of his medical history, but he’s unquestionably one of the draft’s top pass rushers.

No. 22 Philadelphia Eagles: OT JC Latham, Alabama

Lane Johnson turns 34 next month and hasn’t played a full season since 2015.

No. 23 — TRADE — Arizona Cardinals (originally Vikings): DL Darius Robinson, Missouri

With the second first-round pick they acquired in the Vikings trade-up for McCarthy, the Cardinals take one of the draft’s most versatile linemen.

No. 24 Dallas Cowboys: OT Tyler Guyton, Oklahoma

If the Cowboys don’t want to move guard Tyler Smith to left tackle, Guyton has as much potential as any lineman in this draft.

No. 25 Green Bay Packers: Edge Chop Robinson, Penn State

Robinson didn’t have great production at Penn State, but his upside is undeniable as a pass rusher.

No. 26 Tampa Bay Buccaneers: C Jackson Powers-Johnson, Oregon

Baker Mayfield took 40 sacks last season. Powers-Johnson could start Day One at center or guard.

No. 27 — TRADE — Las Vegas Raiders (originally Cardinals): QB Michael Penix, Washington

In this scenario, this is the Cardinals’ third first-round pick (by way of the Houston Texans) and it makes perfect sense to deal to the Raiders, who have the highest second-round pick of the teams still in need of a quarterback.

No 28 Buffalo Bills: DB Cooper DeJean, Iowa

DeJean can play cornerback or safety — both needs for the Bills — and might be the best punt returner in the draft.

No. 29 Detroit Lions: OL Zach Frazier, West Virginia

I’ve gone offensive line in three straight mock drafts for the Lions, both because I like the players (Frazier, as well as Barton and Powers-Johnson) and the fit. Had Darius Robinson or DeJean still been on the board, they’d make sense here. And there are a couple cornerbacks left I strongly considered, including Ennis Rakestraw Jr. from Missouri. Ultimately, though, Brad Holmes is a build-through-the-trenches guy and I think that’s what the Lions do here.

No. 30 Baltimore Ravens: OT Amarius Mims, Georgia

Mims is a pure developmental play, but the Ravens can afford to bring him along slowly at tackle.

No. 31 San Francisco 49ers: WR AD Mitchell, Texas

There are so many good receivers it’s tough trying to pick who belongs in Round 1. Mitchell is one of the best size-speed combinations in the draft and would give Kyle Shanahan another weapon to play with on offense.

No. 32 Kansas City Chiefs: CB Nate Wiggins, Clemson

The Chiefs struck gold with cornerback Trent McDuffie in the back half of the 2021 draft. They can sit tight here and get another playmaker for their secondary.

Lions vs. Vikings: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Sunday's NFL game

Live scores, highlights and updates from the lions vs. vikings football game, 3rd quarter report.

The Lions and the Vikings have shown up to the match, but their offenses sure haven't. The Lions have jumped out to a 20-13 lead against the Vikings. The Lions' offense has been firing on all cylinders thus far, outscoring their total from last Saturday with time still left to play.

If the Lions keep playing like this, they'll bump their record up to 12-5 in no time. On the other hand, the Vikings will have to make due with a 7-10 record unless they turn things around (and fast).

The Vikings have enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Detroit Lions at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday at Ford Field. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

The experts predicted a close game on Sunday and a win for Minnesota, but boy were they wrong. They were the victim of a bruising 33-10 defeat at the hands of the Packers. Minnesota was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 23-3.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, the Vikings had trouble moving the ball and finished the game with only 211 total yards. That's the fewest total yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Detroit went for two against Dallas on Saturday, and the resulting failed attempt cost them the contest. The Lions were just a hair shy of victory and fell 20-19 to the Cowboys. Detroit has struggled against Dallas recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite their defeat, the Lions saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Amon-Ra St. Brown, who picked up 90 receiving yards and a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all.

Minnesota bumped their record down to 7-9 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's lackluster offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.7 points per game. As for Detroit, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.

The Vikings are hoping to beat the odds on Sunday, as the experts think they're headed for a loss. Anyone thinking of taking them against the spread should keep this in mind: the team hasn't covered the last six times they've played the Lions.

Keep an eye on the quarterbacks in this one, as both both teams don't mess around when it comes to the passing game. The Vikings have been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 269 passing yards per game (they're ranked fifth in passing yards per game overall). However, it's not like the Lions struggle in that department as they've been averaging 267.9 passing yards per game. It's looking like Sunday's contest might be a classic QB duel. Check CBS Sports after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more NFL content.

NFC North Roundtable: Latest Draft Buzz for Vikings, Packers, Lions, Bears

What's the latest buzz on what the four NFC North teams are going to do in the draft?

  • Author: Will Ragatz

In this story:

Fan Nation's four NFC North site publishers are running a series of roundtables this month, leading up to the draft. The topic of today's is to describe the latest draft buzz for the team you cover.

Minnesota Vikings

Two weeks from now, the Vikings are going to draft a quarterback in the first round. There's zero question about that. This is a strong quarterback class, the Vikings have two first-round picks, and the current options on their roster are Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens. They've been building towards this seismic shift — moving on from Kirk Cousins and drafting a QB — since the new regime took over two years ago.

The question is which quarterback, and with what pick? The Vikings have the 11th and 23rd selections in the first round. GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is known for wheeling and dealing, so it would be quite surprising if they stay put and make those two picks as is. The most likely outcome still seems to be a trade up for one of the top non-Caleb Williams quarterbacks, whether that's Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels or J.J. McCarthy. The issue there is how much of a QB tax they'll have to pay to convince a team sitting in the top five to move down to 11.

The other option is to take Michael Penix Jr. or Bo Nix in the 10s or 20s, which would allow them to keep the other first-rounder this year, as well as their future draft capital. But if you're going to take a QB, you might as well be aggressive and go get your guy, right? — Will Ragatz, Inside The Vikings

Green Bay Packers

GM Brian Gutekunst hasn’t been one to reach to fill a need. From that standpoint, it will be interesting to see how he handles the first two days of the draft. The Packers have the 25th pick of the first round, the 41st and 58th picks of the second round and the 88th and 91st picks of the third round. That’s five early opportunities to hit the big needs – namely offensive line, cornerback, safety and linebacker.

With the ability to move around the draft board, will he stick at No. 25 and take the cliched best available player? Will he give up one of those Day 2 picks to go get his guy? Might he move back if the board is strong and, for sake of example, the Chiefs want to move up for a receiver or cornerback? Could he move way up for another pick in the early 30s?

One unrelated note: Gutekunst loves his quarterback tandem of Jordan Love and Sean Clifford. However, at one point during Brett Favre’s tenure, then-GM Ron Wolf drafted six quarterbacks in seven years. Gutekunst wants to get back to that way of doing business. Would he dare use a third-rounder on a signal-caller? Or wait to take a flier with one of his four picks in the final two rounds? — Bill Huber, Packer Central

Chicago Bears

The Bears' first pick in the draft is a formality as everything they've done and said leading to the draft indicates they'll take quarterback Caleb Williams No. 1 overall. The real interest will be in what they do at No. 9 in Round 1. Besides being an elite player, it could also set up what they select with their third-rounder (75) and fourth-rounder (122).

Bears coach Matt Eberflus has already said a major need in the draft is finding a defensive end opposite Montez Sweat, but it will be interesting to see if they're thinking the same thing at No. 9 because most pre-draft analysis puts three wide receivers above at least all but one edge rusher, if not all of them. It could be a case where the draft board dictates the Bears take a wide receiver and risk leaving their pass rush issues up to third- and/or fourth-round picks.

They've visited with all of the top receivers and edge rushers at this point. If Rome Odunze remains on the board, it will be a difficult pick to resist, especially because Keenan Allen is in the last year of his contract and could essentially be a rental player. The possibility of a Round 1 trade back exists if they find the top three receivers gone, because the edge rushers might be there a few picks later, as well. — Gene Chamberlain, BearDigest

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are in the unique position to be able to target the best player available when it is their turn to hand in their draft card. It is clear the organization is doing their due diligence at the cornerback and wide receiver positions pre-draft. I'm hearing Detroit's front office is enamored with cornerbacks who have the potential of also helping the team in the return game, which makes Kool-Aid McKinstry and Cooper DeJean realistic options at No. 29.

Terrion Arnold, who has also visited the Lions, is a player many teams will covet in the first round, as he played 301 combined special-teams snaps the last two years. Being a special teams contributor and being the only FBS player with 12 or more pass breakups and at least five interceptions last year will make it unlikely he is available when it Detroit's turn to pick.

Outside of the cornerback spot, it is also realistic general manager Brad Holmes targets an offensive lineman like Graham Barton, since their unit features three starters over the age of 30. Detroit has been successful building in the trenches and the dream scenario this year is if EDGE Darius Robinson somehow falls to Detroit late in the first round. — John Maakaron, All Lions
