DC Public Schools Releases Back-to-School Guide for Start of SY22-23

(WASHINGTON, DC) — DC Public Schools (DCPS) is prepared for the start of the new school year and is releasing important back-to-school resources for families through its new website, dcpsstrong.com. Families will have access to the latest DCPS COVID-19 protocols including our Test to Return to School policy, immunization requirements, and community clinics, along with critical updates from the Chancellor and the school district.

“I am excited to welcome students in grades K-12 back into our classrooms on August 29, and our Pre-K students on September 1,” said Chancellor Lewis Ferebee. “This school year, we will go deeper in creating joyful and rigorous learning experiences to accelerate the success of our students. We’ll continue to prioritize the needs of the whole child and their academic, emotional, and social development. I am thankful for all the DCPS staff whose commitment drives these efforts.”

District families will have the opportunity to join Chancellor Ferebee and others from DCPS this Thursday, August 18 at 5:00 p.m. to discuss important topics around student immunizations, health and safety, academics, attendance, and more at the DCPS Back-to-School Town Hall. Families can RSVP here , and tune into the livestream by visiting dcpsstrong.com/events .

Back-to-School Important Dates and Information to Know:

Tuesday, August 23 to Friday, August 26: Rapid Test Pick-up at Schools Sunday, August 28: Students in Grades K-12 Report COVID Test Results online Monday, August 29: First Day of School for Grades K-12   Wednesday, August 31: Pre-K Students Report COVID Test Results online Thursday, September 1: First Day of School for Pre-K students Monday, September 5: Labor Day (DCPS closed)    

Update and Submit Immunization Records

Have your child’s doctor complete DC’s Universal Health Certificate, to confirm your child is up to date on their immunizations to attend school, including the COVID-19 vaccine for students ages 12 and older. You can drop the health form off at your school or call the school’s main office if you have questions about how to submit your form. If you have not already submitted your child’s immunization records to your school, contact your medical provider, or visit dcpsstrong.com/vaccines  to find pediatric vaccine clinics across the city.  

Take a COVID-19 Test to Return to School

Schools will distribute rapid test kits next week from Tuesday, August 23 through Friday, August 26. Pick up a test kit at your school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., or on Wednesday and Thursday from 12:00 to 5:30 p.m. Students in grades K-12 will need to take a COVID test on Sunday, August 28 and Pre-K students will need to take their test on Wednesday, August 31.  

There’s Still Time to Enroll

You can still enroll your child in school if you have not done so! First, complete the DCPS enrollment packet and make sure to provide proof of DC residency . Once that’s completed, you can submit your enrollment packet to your school. For more information, visit enrolldcps.dc.gov .
