Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Kona Dinner Cruise

Historical sunset boat ride.

a couple stands at the railing on a boat with the sunset behind

Round up the family and drive into the heart of Kona where you’ll board Kona’s largest luxury catamaran, the Body Glove. Cruise from beautiful Kailua Bay en-route to historic Kealakekua Bay where you will learn the story of Captain Cook’s final landfall with music, food, drink and dramatic scenery. Book ahead as this opportunity tends to sell out in advance.

Who is this for?

The historic dinner cruise is great for all ages. If you like to eat, drink, learn about Hawaii’s history and culture, watch the sunset, and listen to live music, all while cruising the open seas, you will love this Kona dinner cruise.

The Body Glove is Kona’s largest boat and is considered a luxury catamaran, so it can handle most ocean conditions easily. The space on the boat means your Keiki (children have space to roam) the height of the boat over the water makes for a great view and allows easy spotting of whales, dolphins, and other marine animals commonly seen in Big Island waters.

This is the only Kona dinner cruise available on the Big Island of Hawaii. The Body Glove is fully shaded and offers expansive outward views with plenty of seating and railing to lean against while you take a sunset selfie. Perhaps you can catch a glimpse of a green flash ?

the sun sets over the ocean with peoples silhouettes in the foreground

What’s included?

  • One complimentary tropical fruity beverage or octal of your choice
  • Historical talk
  • Dinner of Hawaiian Cuisine
  • Sunset views, live music, and dancing

What Will We See?

You’ll begin in beautiful Kailua bay and downtown Kona. As you cruise south Kona’s beautiful coastline will follow along. There’s a chance to see whales during whale season or many other open ocean creatures in cladding dolphins are seen during these tours.

As you head south you’ll encounter beautiful Kealakekua Bay home of the Captain Cook Monument. This is one of the most spectacular sites on the island with a unique and tragic story. This Big Island dinner cruise has so much to offer between food, drink, music and story there’s something for everyone.

Last time we went on this cruise we saw dolphins and whales close to the boat!

What Kind of Food is included?

The food on this Kona dinner cruise contains local ingredients and we are happy to report it’s delicious!

  • Big Island Grown Macadamia Nuts
  • Local spinach, strawberry’s, feta cheese and candied Mac nuts with strawberry vinagrette.
  • Mashed Potatoes served with Kona coffee Demi-Glace
  • Fresh baked coconut dinner rolls
  • Thai coconut curry with Big Island grown sweet potatoes
  • Chocolate Torte
  • Kona Coffee

What is a Green Flash?

A green Flash is a color change that occurs when the sun dip below the horizon. It’s called a flash because it happens very quickly and is an effect that is most apparent on a clear day. The suns rays bounce off the atmosphere causing the effect. We see them frequently in Kona when the skies are clear year around.

This is a great opportunity to experience the sunset from an excellent vantage point with drinks, music, and great food.

What Should We Bring?

Wear some nice clothes and don’t forget to put on sunscreen and sunglasses. Most importantly bring your hunger and thirst! Drinks are inexpensive and plentiful on this Kona dinner cruise!

From January to March you may even see some whales so bring binoculars if you have them!

Overall rating

The trip was great. Nice being out on the ocean. Catamaran felt safe. Captain and crew were friendly and competent. Lots to drink plus snacks. Always a beautiful sunset. Highly recommended. Would do it again. Mahalo!

We had a wonderful time on the sunset cruise. We had a one year old and three year old with us, and the whole family had a great time. The crew was amazing, the boat was clean, and the drinks were strong. My husband usua ... lly gets sea sick, but this was the first time he was completely fine. The boat is big and stable. The crew had several drink choices, snacks, and even brought out teriyaki rice bowls for everyone. They let my three year drive the boat, which made his whole trip. We’re definitely going again on this next time we’re on the Big Island.

Great crew, very friendly and provided a fantastic sunset!

Family trip to HI and topped it off with a great sunset cruise. Thank you to the staff for smooth sailing and a wonderful sunset. Definitely recommend this tour on every vacation to HI.

The Kamanu Catamaran

The  “Kamanu Catamaran”  is Kona’s only custom 36′ catamaran built for speed and comfort. She’s 22 feet wide, making for a large stable platform with an expansive “trampoline” or webbing net up forward for lying on.  Soak in the sun and watch the ocean flow by you as you gaze through the net into the deep blue on a catamaran tour of Big Island Hawaii. Relax in the shaded open air cabin area and “talk story” with the captain and first mate.

Why Customers Love Kamanu Catamaran

a drawing of a face

We had a wonderful ,relaxing voyage! Captain and his assistant were very friendly, informative and funny! It was a beautiful evening-we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect excursion.

Amazing opportunity to get sunset pictures. Enjoyed the company of the others on the boat and the boat crew.

We did the Sunset Cruise. Our captain was very patient, and waited 20 minutes for a couple who said they were 2 minutes away, and never did show up. That doesn't include the 30 minutes prior to launch that everyone was told to arrive at. Great crew, beautiful sunset, mai tais, beer and wine were great, and the food was more than anticipated for appetizers. Definitely would recommend!

We loved our sailing and snorkeling trip! The team was wonderful, and it was magical to snorkel and see the fish. We even saw Eagle Rays, swimming in parallel, a breaktaking highlight for us. Thank you!

Beautiful snorkelling trip with a great crew. Small group, very personable and friendly crew. Really enjoyed it. Would highly recommend to anyone who would love to enjoy snorkelling without the crowds.

Captain Peter or Paul and first mate Patrick were awsome on our sunset sail out of Kona. My son wanted a sailing catamaran not a motor sail and I found Kamanu on yelp. It did not disappoint, the crew snd boat was fabulous. Felt more intimate then the larger tours. You can’t go wrong with this crew.

Highlight was seeing a momma whale with her baby. Crew was professional and very safe. Well worth the price of tickets. Would definitely use this company again. Be prepared to remove your shoes before getting on board the boat. Also there is not a sign for the tour company at the marina, just look for the large catamaran. Read more Written March 6, 2024

  • morrish889 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Whale breaches galore! My wife and I have done a few whale-watching trips in Hawaii, Alaska and California, but this one surpassed them all. Best by far, because the number of actual whale breaches we saw was HUGE! They were more numerous than the number of spouts we usually see! I don't think that's just luck -- I think Capt. Cindy really knew her stuff. Read more Written February 28, 2024
  • 1garlicgirl 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Fantastic!!!!! Captain Brian and deck hand Jewel provided an incredible afternoon, going to their favorite places for us, with known whale sightings and dolphin encounters. Jewel was a wealth of information about both the whales and the dolphins. While Brian with his trusty sonar found whales who just happened to be in a very entertaining mood, doing tail flaps, full body breaches out of the water, with twists and turns! It was amazing to watch. As an added attraction, we came across a school of dolphins swimming alongside the boat, getting so close we could almost touch them. While Captain Brian entertained us on board with stories of past incredible whale encounters, Jewel jumped in the water and said the could actually hear the whales! How cool is this? This is the second year in a row we’ve used this company and I highly, highly, highly recommend this company! You’ll have a great experience. Read more Written February 26, 2024

The catamaran was large, with space inside and on the front decking. Don’t the put off by the appearance of the marina parking lot. It’s a bit rough around the edges. The cruise was professional and well done. Read more Written February 25, 2024
