Japanese school principal fired, loses $133k pension after getting caught stealing less than 50 cents worth of coffee.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

A principal in Japan has been fired after allegedly being caught underpaying for his coffee multiple times.

As a result, he will not receive his retirement pay valued at about 20 million yen ($133,000 USD).

The incident was reported in January in the city of Takasago, located in the Hyogo Prefecture, Honshu, by  local Japanese media .

The 59-year-old male principal of a Takasago junior high school was reportedly busted after using a self-service coffee at a convenience store.

He allegedly had been pouring himself a large-size coffee while only paying for a regular-size coffee.

Regular coffees sell for 110 yen (73 cents), but he was purportedly getting the larger size valued at 180 yen ($1.20), a difference of just 70 yen (47 cents).

The store clerk noticed, stopped the man, and immediately called the police,  Japan Today  reports.

The clerk claimed the man had done the sneaky act twice before.

The store did not press charges, but word got back to the school and during questioning by the Hyogo Prefectural Board of Education, the man is said to have admitted underpaying for coffee seven times, adding up to about 490 yen ($3.26) worth of coffee.

Japan Today reports the man did it the first time by accident, but repeated it, thinking he was getting away with it.

He told the board he did it “on the impulse of the moment” and declared that he was “truly sorry”.

He was reportedly fired on January 30 with the board citing gross misconduct unbecoming of an educational public servant.”

The board members stated they were sorry “from the bottom of [their] hearts” for allowing it to happen.

According to  Sora News , the incident led to heated debate online.

One person said: “He could have bought like 100,000 large coffees with those retirement benefits he lost.”

Another added: “He’s an older guy, he probably could have gotten away with saying he didn’t know how to use the machine.”

Takashi Sakata, a professor from Japan Women’s University, told news outlet  Asahi  that the punishment was “disproportionately severe”.

L.L.Bean Men’s Bean Boots (8-inch)

Our duck-boot pick for mixed terrain (men’s sizes).

Deftly balancing fashion and function, these duck boots are great for wet and muddy weather. They’re laced tighter to the foot than rubber boots, so they don’t slip on and off as easily as others, but they’re some of the most thoughtfully designed pieces of outdoor gear we’ve tried.

Other things to know: We like that these boots are unlined since it keeps the shoe true to its nature as a multi-seasonal, versatile piece of your outdoor kit. The leather upper and the coated laces require some breaking in.

A Rejected NASA Prototype Inspired Omega’s White Speedmaster Moonwatch

White Omega Speedmaster MoonWatch

Eagerly awaited by die-hard Omega fans since the watch was spotted on Daniel Craig’s wrist at a New York exhibition in November 2023, Omega has finally unveiled a new version of its famous Speedmaster Moonwatch chronograph. It is the first of the current generation with a white dial, a high-contrast alternative to the classic black aesthetic. Crucially, it also follows in the footsteps of some of Omega’s most experimental vintage Speedmasters.

The 42-mm, $8,100 (£7,600) hand-wound watch joins the core collection of Speedmaster Professional references, making it the first time Omega has offered a white dial option outside of now-discontinued limited editions. Powered by the METAS-certified Master Chronometer calibre 3861—Omega’s flagship manual-winding movement, offering up best-in-class magnetic resistance and a 50-hour power reserve—inside the new Speedmaster is mechanically unchanged, yet the simple change of dial color places it in a tradition of highly desirable rare Speedmasters.

The first Speedmaster debuted in 1957. It was first worn in space by Mercury 7 astronaut Walter Schirra in 1962, but the Speedmaster Moonwatch traces its lineage to 1965, when the watch was officially certified by NASA as “flight-qualified” for all manned space missions.

White Omega Speedmaster MoonWatch

Omega's new Moonwatch chrono dial color places it in a tradition of highly desirable rare Speedmasters.

But the history of white-dialed Speedmasters begins in 1969, as NASA engineer Jim Regan worked with Omega to prototype improvements to the watches worn into orbit and to the moon. The brief was for a more shock-proof and temperature-resistant watch for use on lunar expeditions and EVA (extravehicular activities), or spacewalks—temperatures could reach 120°C (248°F) in the direct glare of the sun.

Omega responded with a prototype known as the Alaska project (nothing to do with the state, it was simply Omega’s in-house codename for all NASA-commissioned watches). Cased in titanium—at the time a rare, exotic, and demanding material to work with—it boasted an additional shielding case of anodized aluminum in bright red. Inside, Omega upgraded the movement with various new components, more durable polymers, and lubricating oils specially chosen for their resistance to heat. The white dial was a purely functional choice, for its ability to reflect more heat.

Rejected by NASA as too expensive, the Alaska stood out for its white dial with checkered inner flange and large, triangular chronograph hands. These resembled the Apollo reentry capsule, but were designed with a purpose: It was supposed to make the watch easier to read under extreme vibration.

The 20 Best Portable Chargers for All of Your Devices

Brenda Stolyar

Closeup of OMEGA Alaska watch

The first titanium Project Alaska Omega watch had a shielding case of anodized aluminum in bright red.

Omega followed the first Alaska prototype with a second design the following year, cased in the conventional 42-mm Moonwatch case. It retained the oversize red aluminum outer case and white dial, while on this model the steel cases were bead-blasted rather than polished to reduce dazzling reflections. The “capsule” hands also remained, but in black, and the classic Speedmaster’s tachymeter bezel (most useful for tracking speed over a known distance; relatively impossible in space) was replaced by a 60-minute scale.

Despite its more conventional styling and cheaper production costs, NASA decided not to order the watch, preferring to stick with what it knew. The Alaska Project watches did eventually make it into space, however, worn by Soyuz 25 mission cosmonauts between 1977 and 1981.

A white dial would not grace another Speedmaster Moonwatch until 1997, when a commemorative limited edition was produced to mark the 40th anniversary of the Speedmaster, and it was only sold in Italy.

In 2008, a limited-edition Alaska Project homage was released, and others have since followed, including the Silver Snoopy of 2015. In 2021, a white-dial Speedy was released in Omega’s proprietary Canopus white gold.

But this new model in stainless steel (reference 310.30.42.50.04.001) is the most attainable white version so far. Today, Omega says the color scheme is a nod to astronauts’ space suits, which it may be—but for fans of the brand it will always relate back to those Cold War creations.

So important were the Alaska Project watches, they were also immortalized in MoonSwatch form in 2022, as the red-bioceramic-cased Mission to Mars.

There are a number of other touches that cement this new Speedmaster’s place as the spiritual successor to the Alaska Project watches: The red Speedmaster dial text is a subtle nod to the design of both Alaska models; and the glossy lacquer used for the dial (another small first for Omega-kind) is in its own way harking back to the highly reflective capabilities of those top-secret prototypes.

Equipped with a sapphire crystal, water-resistant to 50 meters, and machined to tolerances that engineers of the 1960s could only dream of, this is a thoroughly modern Speedmaster—but like all the best Speedmasters, it has a powerful connection to the past.

I went on an 8-month solo road trip after a breakup. I'm engaged now, but I still travel alone.

  • A few years ago, I lost myself in a relationship. After we broke up, I went on a solo road trip.
  • As I traveled across the country, I learned a lot about myself.
  • Now, it's three years later, and I still love traveling alone even though I'm engaged.

Insider Today

In my late 20s, I left my beloved Philadelphia apartment near friends and favorite restaurants and moved to the suburbs closer to my boyfriend and work. Then my boyfriend moved to Texas for a job. After five months of long distance, the pandemic hit, and I started working remotely from his home in Houston.

These choices seemed inevitable. Following cues from media and society for most of my life, I thought being in love meant adapting to my partner's needs. Though our relationship had been unsteady , I hoped bending to the demands of his life would help repair our bond. The opposite happened: I felt like I was losing myself.

Three months into lockdown, we broke up . I returned to the apartment I had left behind in the Pennsylvania suburbs and immediately felt lost. I passed my ex's old house on morning commutes to work, and our date-night restaurant was the only Thai place in the neighborhood.

I needed time away to heal, and the time I used to spend browsing for engagement rings online was now spent scanning travel blogs on top US destinations . Over the next few weeks, I loaded necessities into my orange Toyota Corolla hatchback.

With a plan that included a few national parks and states I'd never visited, I started driving west.

A solo road trip helped me focus on my own wants and needs

During my eight-month trip, I never quite knew where I would end up and spent most nights at campgrounds or self-check-in rentals reserved only a few days in advance. A month into the trip, I also booked the only remaining spot on a guided, three-night backpacking trip to summit Grand Teton three weeks in advance.

Though incoming storms made a summit attempt unviable, we made it to base camp. I spent three days admiring the peaks above and the valley below covered in stunning white snow.

I realized that traveling without an itinerary and only a few vague ideas of where I wanted to go allowed me to focus every moment on myself.

I found myself in the small decisions as much as the large

While I still felt heartbroken and lonely at times, I discovered small ways to return to myself. During a stay at Lake Huron, I made white lemon ginger tea with water from my camping stove after an early morning bout of insomnia — a small, nurturing act of self-care. Later that day, I bought five more flavors and continued a daily tea ritual throughout the trip.

Because I was only responsible for myself on the road, I was more attuned to what I needed, and I felt myself beginning to heal. I realized it wasn't selfish to pay attention to my own needs, it was self-care. Committing to my needs and wants was critical to building confidence and independence .

I'm now engaged, but solo trips are still integral to my life

It's been nearly three years since my solo trip , and when I got home, I felt ready to date authentically. Rather than mold myself to be more desirable, I listened to my wants and needs and looked for compatibility. Within a few months, I met someone special, and a year into our relationship, I felt he was the one.

Still, I craved the feeling the road inspired. So, one weekend, I kissed my partner goodbye and went car camping alone. On the way to Upstate New York, I stopped at a pizza parlor for a personal pie with mushrooms, a topping my fiancé dislikes. Later, I spent hours climbing a rocky trail toward panoramic views of fall colors painting the Catskills.

For me, traveling alone isn't only justified when our lives feel unmanageable. Such trips are how I remember who I am. On a weekend trip to DC last month, I took myself out to a fancy Sichuan restaurant after thrifting at a trendy shop. I watched the bartender make me a custom cocktail from a secret menu, ultimately finishing my dinner and novel at the end of the bar with a sense of contentment.

While I often prefer traveling with my fiancé, we both understand these experiences allow me to show up better for myself and our relationship, and I can't wait to see where these solo journeys take us both.

  • Quality of humidor
  • Size and shape

One of the features you need to keep in mind is the material; for both the interior and exterior. Leather, PU, or fabric exteriors act as insulating layers to ensure optimal interior conditions.

In addition to this, it also employs an individual leather pouch for securing your humidity pack inside the humidor.

Priced right at $70, the CiTree humidor includes both a metal cigar cutter and a triple-jet lighter, both of which are designed to be stored in their individual leather pockets. Boveda Large Cigar Humidor Bag

  • Country Of Origin:  USA
  • Type:  Humidor Bag
  • Lining: Barrier Laminated Plastic
  • Finish:  None
  • Humidifier: Yes
  • Count:  Small [4], Medium [20], Large [60]
  • Price:  $7 – $15 [ Buy Now On Amazon ]

While not strictly a travel humidor, Boveda’s humidor bags are very versatile indeed. The small version can contain three or four cigars, while we’ve managed to squeeze several boxes in the larger ones.

Indeed, these don’t offer much in the way of protection. However, either fit an entire cigar box in a large bag or even place a smaller bag in another container. As they come with Boveda packs, they’re fully equipped and can provide a year’s worth of humidity if used correctly.

We regularly rely on Boveda’s humidity packs as reliable and cheap storage. As such, we can’t rate them enough!

3. Davidoff Travel Humidor [Luxury Travel Humidor]

Davidoff Travel Humidor

  • Country Of Origin:  Italy
  • Lining: None
  • Finish:  Fabric & Leather
  • Price:  $280 [ Buy From Davidoff ]

Davidoff’s lavish Italian-made travel humidor is constructed from knitted Jacquard fabric and leather that is welded together for an airtight seal. A pull-out tray is designed with a flexible wave design to protect each cigar while a hidden magnetic clasp seals it shut.

Davidoff travel humidors used to be supplied with their own humidity packs, though there have since been replaced by Boveda packs. The above one pictured is a limited Churchill edition, but there are plenty of other designs available.

You can read more about it with our full, detailed review of the Davidoff travel humidor .

4. Colibri Explorer [Premium Travel Case]

Colibri Leather Travel Humidor With Cigars

  • Country Of Origin:  Unknown
  • Lining: Leather
  • Finish: Saffiano Leather
  • Price:  $290 [ Buy Now On Amazon ]

A more reasonably-sized luxury travel humidor, the Colibri Explorer offers a superior seal than the more affordable Lagute below. Capable of holding up to 12 Churchill cigars, it is made from Saffiano leather.

5. Lagute Travel Humidor [Elegant & Affordable]

Lagute Leather Travel Humidor

  • Finish:  Leather
  • Price:  $45 [ Buy Now On Amazon ]

If you’re planning to attend an event where you’ll be smoking cigars, the Lagute Goucho is an excellent accessory. Unlike other travel humidors, it’s very elegant with its leather exterior and cedar wood lining.

However, this isn’t ideal for storage over a long period of time. Firstly, it’s limited to only 6 cigars, which isn’t very many. While the zipper and seal on this are better than most leather cases, they aren’t airtight, so some moisture will escape over time.

6. Xikar 50-80 [Largest Travel Humidor]

Xikar 50-80 Travel Humidor

  • Lining: Foam
  • Finish:  ABS Moulded Plastic
  • Hygrometer: Yes
  • Count:  50 – 80
  • Price:  $70 [ Buy Now On Amazon ]

If you’re looking to transport a large quantity of cigars, Xikar’s 50-80 travel humidor is an excellent choice. Crushproof and airtight, the high-density urethane foam carefully protects your cigars.

We’d throw out the foam humidifier supplied with this and replace it with a few 60g Boveda packs . Remember to use one for every 25 cigar capacities, as mentioned above. Otherwise, this is probably the best heavy-duty travel humidor for large quantities.

7. Cigar Caddy 3540 [Versatile Travel Humidor]

Two Different Cigar Caddy Models

  • $38.95 [ Buy On Mike’s Cigars ]
  • $39.95 [ Buy Now On Amazon ]

One of the most common travel humidor designs that was popularised by Herf-a-dor, Cigar Caddy is probably one of the most reliable today. With its airtight seal, it floats on water but is still waterproof up to 100 feet.

We would recommend this larger one that can contain 15 Churchill cigars, as the smaller models provide less versatility in terms of storage. Furthermore, we don’t use the supplied humidifier but rely on Boveda packs instead.

8. Amancy Leather [Affordable Travel Humidor]

Amancy Leather Travel Humidor

  • Lining:  Cedar
  • Finish: Genuine Leather
  • Hygrometer: Analogue
  • Count:  3 – 5
  • Price:  $23 [ Buy Now On Amazon ]

This is another great travel humidor for attending events. It offers a great seal and its cedar lining absorbs some moisture for long-term performance. However, we’re not sure if it’s Spanish cedar, so don’t expect the same benefits.

While it can contain up to 5 cigars, this largely depends on the vitola. We find that it’s complicated with larger-gauge cigars, and you’ll probably only fit two or three cigars above 50 RG.

We also threw out the foam humidifier and just used Boveda packs. This also helps cushion the cigars and prevent them from rolling around inside the tube.

This is also the only travel humidor with a hygrometer. While the analogue hygrometer isn’t going to be very accurate, it’s still a nice decorative touch and gives you a fair idea when calibrated.

Why Buy A Travel Humidor For Your Cigars?

Different Cigar Travel Humidors

Therefore, they’re not for long-term storage but for short periods of transit or stays away from home. Nevertheless, travel humidors aren’t exclusive to jet setters and can be an invaluable tool for even the shortest trips.

For instance, if you’re heading out and want to take some cigars with you, they offer the best protection and environment for your cigars. While small cases tend to be quite attractive, travel humidors are more robust and will provide more space.

Whether you’re heading to an event, seeing some friends, or you’re even buying cigars from a shop, they’re a great way to transport them safely. As such, travel humidors are a truly handy accessory for every cigar enthusiast.

Cigar Travel Humidor Benefits

Cigar Locker Travel Humidor

Firstly, they need to offer an airtight seal so the necessary interior environment can be created. If they’re not airtight, they won’t retain the moisture provided by your humidifier of choice.

Furthermore, the humidor should be made from lightweight materials that are easy to carry. Yet, the materials need to be robust enough to resist shocks or being crushed.

Similarly, superior travel humidors are not only extremely crush-proof but also waterproof. After all, you never know what could happen when travelling, and it’s certainly a reassuring feature if you’re heading out to the beach.

All travel humidors should have strong latches to prevent accidental openings when carried or in your luggage. Meanwhile, some larger quality humidors will also feature locking mechanisms with combinations or a key so they can be securely stored without fear of wandering sticks.

Finally, some of the better, more advanced travel humidors will feature safety valves for air travel. Given that you may be leaving them in your checked luggage, you can open the valve beforehand to avoid the box breaking under low pressure.

Lagute Leather Travel Humidor

As such, they tend to underperform and are really only viable if you intend to smoke the cigars sooner rather than later. However, this doesn’t necessarily speak for all travel humidors as there are some good ones on the market. Just make sure that you’re buying quality rather than an attractive design or low price.

Another common issue among travel humidors is that they tend to offer little storage space compared to their size. Unfortunately, this is partly out of necessity.

The majority of travel humidors are filled with Ester, Polyethylene, or Pro-Cell foam to secure and cushion the cigars. However, this is a double-edged sword as it leaves little space is left for the cigars themselves, let alone the humidifier or hygrometer!

Nevertheless, the foam has an important function in that it prevents the cigars from being loose inside the container, which could cause them to damage one another.

Still, this may sometimes result in not having enough space for your cigars. Consequently, people may try to overfill their travel humidors, we could actually crush them from the inside!

Buying A Travel Humidor: What To Look

When looking for a travel humidor, consider reading some of our tips to make sure that you buy the right one to suit your needs.

Consider Alternatives

Boveda Large Cigar Humidor Bag

As they’re available in a number of different sizes, you can store as little as a few cigars to even a couple of boxes in a single bag. When travelling with entire boxes, you can easily slip these into a larger bag, which is perfectly secure in itself.

However, if you just have a few cigars, simply put them in a smaller bag and then place the bag itself in a harder box for protection. Not only is this perfectly sufficient, but it offers a better environment for your cigars than most travel humidors .

Finally, despite their appearance, Boveda bags aren’t simply branded ziplock bags with an included Boveda pack. In fact, they’re made from barrier-laminated plastic with an airtight enclosure. Meanwhile, regular ziplock bags do lose moisture over time and aren’t as reliable as we like to think.

Otherwise, you could even consider a small tupperdor for travelling . While less attractive, it’s certainly cheaper and more effective than the majority of travel humidors on the market.

Inspect The Seal & Latches

Cigar Caddy Travel Humidors

The best way to do this is by simply throwing in a humidifier with a hygrometer and closing it. Once set up, periodically check the humidity to see whether it’s consistent. If it’s too low or fluctuates, then you likely have a leak.

Of course, the humidifier may be over-performing in order to compensate for the leak, and you may not notice a drop in relative humidity. Therefore, the best way to do this is over a long period of time as we did with ours.

Herf-A-Dor Travel Humidor

If it retains water, then there’s a good chance that it also holds air.

Finally, the quickest and easiest way to check the seals is by closing it and giving it a squeeze if made from ABS moulded plastic. If it hisses when squeezed, then it’ll likely leak air even when under no pressure.

Finally, consider checking the latches as well as the seals. Some cheaper travel humidors come with loose or weak latches that break. If the latches are unreliable, there’s a high chance that the humidor could pop open and expose the cigars.

Check The Foam Type

Travel Humidor Foam

  • Ester: Probably the best foam for cigars, Ester offers an excellent cushion that protects delicate objects that can break under impact. Its cushioning is flexible and can store irregular-shaped objects.
  • Polythylene:  Absorbs more shock than Ester and is made for heavier objects, PE is a great foam for most uses.
  • Pro-Cell:  With its refined finish, Pro-Cell is better for displays. It’s more delicate than the other foams but is surprisingly dense.

There are also different cuts and shapes to the foam. You can opt for foams that have a flat finish, which is generally better for smaller, flatter humidors. Otherwise, there is also the convoluted, egg-crate-shaped foam that offers better protection.

Some travel humidors may actually have piped foam to give you a pre-shaped space for placing your cigars.

Use A Quality Humidifier

320g & 60g Boveda Humidity Packs

Your choice of humidifier for travelling will need to fulfil three requirements:

  • Compact size
  • Two-Way Humidity
  • Low Chance Of leakage

Firstly, the humidifier needs to be compact because of the small space available. As mentioned above, there is usually little space for the cigars themselves, so a chunk humidifier may take up too much.

Meanwhile, traditional humidification devices are usually charged with liquid, whether they’re based on gels, beads or foam. As such, they may have a tendency to leak all over your cigars.

Last but not least, most of these traditional devices offer only one-way humidification. This means that they continually release moisture close to them, which doesn’t diffuse. This can easily cause over-humidification in such a small and, hopefully, airtight space.

As such, two-way humidification ensures that excess moisture is absorbed when the humidity goes over a certain level. Meanwhile, it will diffuse it only when necessary.

CiTree Travel Humidor In Brown Leather From Amazon

CiTree Travel Humidor

For all the reasons mentioned above, we largely favour Boveda’s humidity packs. Not only do they come in more modest sizes for travel humidors, but they are also completely hassle-free. Their membrane lining is very hard-wearing and resistant to breaking, and the packs provide two-way humidity control.

Their small  8g Boveda humidity packs  are conveniently sized and provide enough humidity for 5 to 10 cigars. However, we tend to go for the typical 60g humidity packs as they’re still relatively small and tend to offer the best performance and value for money.

Buy Larger Than Necessary

Finally, we’ve already mentioned several times that travel humidors have a deceptively small storage capacity compared to their size. As such, it’s always worth keeping this in mind when buying your travel humidor.

Firstly, their labelled count capacity may refer to smaller vitolas than you’re intending to carry. It’s quite disappointing to find that your case can only carry 5 robustos when you want to transport 6 Churchills!

Secondly, you may only want to carry a few with you when buying the humidor. However, you may want to carry even more in the future. Unless you’re planning to buy a different travel humidor for every possible scenario, consider buying one that can contain more than you need.

Finally, care should be taken not to overfill a travel humidor. If you compress the foam too tightly, it will absorb shock but put the cigars under unnecessary pressure. An overfilled travel humidor may even crush the cigars if you’re not careful!

Travel Humidor Preparation & Maintenance

Unless made from cedar, which will require seasoning , travel humidors are generally very low maintenance.

Our only advice would be to place your humidifier inside the humidor for a short time before placing the cigars. This ensures that the environment is well-prepared and that the foam can absorb any humidity if necessary.

Best Travel Humidors for Cigars – 2023

travel humidor for cigars

If you’re a cigar lover that’s always on the move, you need to check out these top travel humidors for cigars. Whether you are looking for stylish leather cases or built-in hygrometers for precise humidity control, or simply a compact size, we have the perfect fit. These travel humidors make it easy to bring your cigars along with you, no matter where you go.

Check out our list of the top travel humidors for cigars and never let subpar storage ruin your experience again.

Best Xikar Travel Humidor

Xikar 5 travel humidor.

travel humidor large

This Xikar travel humidor is great for those looking for a basic storage and transportation option. Most importantly, your cigars will remain fresh and protected while you travel. But we also love that this can hold the larger sized Churchill’s too.

The drawbacks are that there are no slots, simply an egg carton foam liner. But this setup works well if you are looking for more flexibility in your sizing. Something else to note is that this does not include a humidifier. However, it does a really good job keeping moisture locked in, and these humidity packs are an easy addition in the case.

Note: if you are looking for a bit larger capacity (10 cigars), here is the bigger option for you to check out.

  • 5 Cigar Capacity
  • Box Size: 8 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ x 2″
  • Airtight, watertight, and crush-proof

Best Leather Travel Cigar Humidor

Cohiba leather cigar humidor travel case.

travel humidor large

This Cohiba travel humidor for cigars is one of our favorite high quality options. The craftsmanship is showcased in the design and high quality materials, such as the leather Cohiba case and the cedar wood interior. It also includes a humidifier and siphon, which makes it a great travel set, as well as a longer term storage and transport option

Which is why we think this option makes for a great gift option too. Especially since it has everything you need as a gift set, including a cutter and lighter. But make a note that the lighter does not come with butane to make shipping easier.

  • 4-6 Cigar Capacity
  • Box Size: 8″ x 5″ x 3″
  • Includes: leather case, cutter, lighter & punch (2 in), humidifier, siphon

Best Travel Humidor with Hygrometer

Mrs. brog cigar travel humidor with hygrometer & humidifier.

travel humidor large

This is a great travel humidor for anyone who only has a couple of cigars to pack, but wants to keep them as fresh and protected as possible. The sturdy aluminum casing with a textured grip finish makes it extremely durable. And the screw top and bottom make sure that it doesn’t ever open accidentally in transit. On top of that, the built in hygrometer and humidifier make it simple to keep your cigars at peak freshness during your adventure.

If you’re looking to travel with a higher quantity of cigars, however, you’ll want to check out one of our larger capacity recommendations.

  • 3 Cigar Capacity
  • Size: 7 3/4″ x 6.5″
  • Includes: aluminum case, hygrometer, humidifier

Top Small Travel Case for Cigars

Amancy cigar travel case set.

travel humidor large

This is a stylish pick for those that are looking to only keep a few cigars fresh while on a short trip or adventure. This option does not include a humidor, but it does come with a built in holder for the included cutter and lighter. So that makes it easy to pack on the go. And it’s just a great quality and good looking.

The drawbacks are that this case is not going to keep your cigars as fresh as our other cases that are airtight or have humidors. It also only holds a capacity of 6.5″ cigars and a ring gauge of 52. So make sure that this will hold your desired type of cigar beforehand as well.

Note: the lighter does not come with butane to make shipping easier. So be sure to add that when it arrives.

  • 7.5″ x 3.1″ x 2.5″
  • Includes: leather case, lighter, cutter

Best High Capacity Travel Humidor for Cigars

Mrs. brog large cigar humidor for travel.

travel humidor large

This Mrs. Brog large travel cigar case is perfect for any adventure. The heavy duty ABS exterior and slotted foam interior will protect it from rolling around in your truck, being tossed around by baggage handlers, or any other mishaps of travel. This is a great option to ensure your cigars arrive to your destination in perfect condition.

One drawback is that due to the heavy duty casing and levels of padding, this case is on the bulkier side. So if you’re tight on space for your travels, this may not be the right fit.

  • 15 Cigar Capacity and 5 Cigar Capacity options also available
  • Waterproof, shockproof, and airtight
  • Includes: humidor, cigar stand, cutter

Questions About Travel Humidors for Cigars

How much do humidors cost.

You can get a travel humidor for starting around $20, but as you go up in size and quality you can spend $50 or more. Our top picks of cigar humidors for travel includes a variety of price points to fit exactly what you’re looking for.

How do you use a travel humidor?

A travel humidor helps to maintain the freshness and flavor of cigars by maintaining an ideal humidity level.

The cigar humidor will have a sealable lid that helps to regulate the level of humidity inside, plus a lining of moisture-absorbing material, such as sponge or foam, which can be moistened to maintain the ideal level of humidity around 70%. This usually involves using an eye dropper to add a few drops of distilled water.

Some travel humidors also come equipped with a hygrometer for measuring the humidity level, ensuring that cigars are stored in the optimal conditions at all times.

This makes a travel humidor a must-have accessory for cigar enthusiasts, even when they’re traveling.

How often do you refill a humidor humidifier?

Usually you only need to refill the humidifier every few months if you’re keeping your humidor in good shape. However, the frequency you need to refill your cigar humidor’s humidifier depends on a few things, like the size of your humidor, the weather, and how many cigars you’ve got stored inside.

But, if it’s super dry outside, you may need to refill more often. Smaller humidors usually need to be refreshed more often as well.

The best way to know when it’s time is to keep an eye on the humidity levels inside using a hygrometer. If it drops below your desired level, it’s time for a refill.

The 8 Best Travel Cigar Cases of 2024 (Travel Humidors)

June 21, 2022 by Will Roby Leave a Comment

Here are my picks for the 3 best travel humidors for 2024:

  • Best overall travel humidor: XIKAR 10 Count Cigar Humidor
  • Best large travel humidor: Cigar Caddy 40
  • Best small travel humidor: HF Leather Travel Humidor (5 Count)

I have fond memories of my dad going everywhere with a cigar in his pocket.

In fact, I keep his last cigar with me on my writing desk.

Here’s a photo of it.

travel humidor large

This is the cigar he’d picked out the night before he died and put in his pocket for the next morning. I keep it here with me, wrapped up, to remind me of him. Typical for my dad, a very mild “session” type of cigar that he could enjoy absent-mindedly while doing the morning watering in the garden.

My dad never embraced much cigar tech. He didn’t care for fancy humidors or cigar lighters or whatever. He threw his sticks in his pocket, or in his briefcase or whatever, and just hit the road. I’m sure most of his cigars were worse for the wear.

Buy One Get One Free one over 50 of the most popular cigarillo, little cigars, filtered cigar brands

But that’s how he liked to do it. He didn’t mind a cracked wrapper or a cigar with a little bend to it.

I didn’t inherit my dad’s distaste for humidors, travel cases, and cigar gadgets. If anything, I overcorrected in the other direction. My miscellaneous junk drawer is chock full of cigar toys I bought and didn’t ever adapt. But there they sit, collecting dust, probably embarrassing my dad in the afterlife.

One thing that’s never left the rotation is my travel humidor. I’m on the road probably 20 weeks a year, visiting friends and family, going on vacation, or meeting with people for business. As a man who likes to enjoy at least one nice cigar every day , being on the road means protecting my cigars as I jostle through airports, grind out a 10-hour drive, and unpack and repack my suitcase.

Whether you prefer sweet cigars or spicy Corojos , you need a travel case or two to take them on the go with you.

So many companies are making travel cigar cases, you can pretty much take your pick. Travel humidors come in all shapes and sizes, some with gadgets and gizmos aplenty, others more austere and sophisticated. You can buy a travel cigar case in every color of the rainbow, including the rainbow itself.

In this post, I’ve reviewed my 8 favorite travel cigar cases for 2024. They each have something interesting to offer those of us who like to travel with our favorite smokes. Those reviews are below. I’ve listed them alphabetically for the sake of fairness.

I’ve updated this post for 2024 in February. Please note that cigarzine.com is reader-supported, and if you buy anything through the links here, the site gets a commission.

Also, here’s a link to the travel humidors available at Gotham Cigars . They have a really limited selection. The individual cases listed in this post were available at Famous Smoke, which has a much broader selection. But, as a service to my gentle readers, I like to make it easy to shop around and compare prices.

Table of Contents

1 – Cigar Caddy 40

This is my pick for the best big travel cigar case. It’s airtight and waterproof up to 100 feet (just in case you were planning on snorkeling with your favorite stogies in tow).

All jokes aside, you can put up to 40 cigars in this case and they’ll be safer than any piece of luggage you’ve ever owned.

The case comes in two colors, black, and camo. I like the black one. It just looks cooler and more sophisticated. The case has everything you need – mainly humidification and several travel trays for organization and storage. The case is rigid and crushproof, and it has nicely-built locks that don’t have that cheap feel you sometimes find in budget cases.

You’ll need to let this product do some off-gassing before you start to use it. For whatever reason, part of the manufacturing process leaves behind a typical manufacturing smell. Opening the package and letting the product air out for a day or two will completely rid you of that odor.

This case retails for around $100, but I’ve seen it on sale online for around $96 . Look for sales and wait it out if you can’t find a lower price right away. It’s a wonderful case with excellent reviews that can hold enough cigars for several weeks of enjoyment on the road. Please understand that I check these prices manually, and they might have changed by the time you read this.

2 – Craftsman’s Bench Passport XL

Having a functional humidor with good craftsmanship that can slide right into the backseat or the trunk is a good idea for any cigar smoker. That’s what Craftsman’s Bench Passport XL is great at – protecting small numbers of cigars and being really user-friendly along the way.

This isn’t a humidor. It’s literally just for protecting your sticks. It does a great job at that, and it looks sleek. When I know I’m going to smoke a half-dozen or so cigars in a couple days while I’m on the road, I reach for this case.

I use my Bench Passport XL for quick trips. It holds up to 8 cigars depending on the size. It’s become my go-to car humidor for road trips of just a few hours. In a pinch, I could pack a weeks’ worth of cigars, so long as I rationed myself to just one a day. I don’t want to do it, but if I was pressed for space, I could pull it off.

I bought my Bench Passport XL on sale for around $37 . I’ve seen it in cigar shops for a little more. I’ve also seen it for sale online for a little less. Honestly, it’s a great product even if you pay retail at your local cigar store.

3 – Firebird Travel Humidor

Styled after protective cases for cameras, Firebird’s Travel Humidor is a small but mighty protector and humidor for your cigars that looks cool and won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

I love the blaze orange color. It stands out in my luggage, on the train, on the airplane, or just in the back of my car. The latches feel strong and secure. It holds up to 10 cigars depending on the ring gauge. It includes a humidification device, which is a must if you’re checking your cigars in baggage or if you’re going to be away from them for any period of time.

I brought my Firebird Travel Humidor on a cruise, and it was perfect. I was able to buy some really nice cigars during the cruise, but I wanted a supply of some of my favorites for personal use along the way. Even through all the changing humidity and temperatures and lots of jostling about, I didn’t have a single issue with my sticks on that trip.

The case retails for just under $40 . It’s a good buy at that price, but you probably don’t have to pay it. My local shop had one on sale for a little less the other day. I can also find it for sale online right now for under $30.

4 – HF Barcelona Leather Travel Humidor (5 Count)

Put a drop or two of distilled water in the humidifier and go. That’s the appeal of HF Barcelona’s Leather Travel Humidor, a five-count travel case that’s really just a tiny leather-bound humidor. It’s stylish, it’s a little bit fancy, and I love the sound of the magnetic clasp on the leather binding. It’s somewhere between a “thwack” and a “thwump,” and it sounds like a device that a rich guy would have. If that makes sense.

Sure, you can only store five sticks at a time in it. That limits its use cases for sure. But the small size and high durability also make it perfect for going on adventures. It would look great on the golf course, but you can also use it on your riding lawnmower. The leather case is durable, and mine has started to show some really nice wear.

It’s well-made, the tray is composed of fine okoume wood, and it’s just generally a beautiful piece. Makes for a great gift for a cigar lover. This case and a good cigar lighter are all you need to smoke on vacation.

While you may not be able to pack a week’s worth of cigars for a road trip or your airplane carry-on, it’s a good almost pocket-sized transport humidor, and people will admire the way it looks.

The price range here is really wide. The manufacturer sells it for more than $240. While the materials and craftsmanship absolutely justify that price, you don’t really need to be pay retail. I’ve seen resale websites offering it for around $125. But I bought mine on sale from Famous-Smoke for $55 . You just have to be patient and look around and find a discounted price.

5 – Orleans International 3 Cigar Humidor Tube

Not everything on my list is functional and made of aluminum. This Orleans International 3 Cigar Humidor Tube is covered in leather, styled to look like either crocodile or ostrich. It’s neat-looking and would go better with formal attire than a typical bland humidor tube.

Not only does this little guy include humidification, but it also has a built-in hygrometer so you can easily check the status of your cigars. Most of the cases on this list lack a hygrometer, but Orleans International has stuffed one into this little travel case. That’s impressive.

It’s 2 inches wide and 7 inches deep, so plan accordingly. If you like big stogies, you obviously won’t get three of them in here. If you’re storing panatelas or cigarillos, you’ll probably get way more than three inside.

Orleans International sells this 3-cigar humidor tube for about $40 retail. You can find it online for under $30 . It’s a good buy at either price, but I’d always prefer to pay less.

6 – Private Stash Travel Humidor

I’m not a huge fan of humidors that you’re meant to stuff into your luggage. I prefer standalone devices with their own lock, latch, or clasp system. But not every travel humidor is made that way.

My favorite of these packable cigar travel cases is the Private Stash Travel Humidor. I like the materials first and foremost. It’s made of mahogany and feels luxurious to the touch. The clasp is strong it’s never opened up on me during my travels. I can fit 18-20 Robustos and I know they’ll be perfectly safe and humidified in the bottom of my carry-on or zipped into my checked baggage.

I love the Spanish cedar lining, which produces that lovely cigar box smell we all know and love. It’s inexpensive, so perfect for people just dipping their toe into the pool of cigar gadgetry. The 7-inch width means most cigar formats will fit, even if you can only get a few of them inside.

I bought my Private Stash Travel Humidor for under $20 at Famous-Smoke during a sale . I think the manufacturer charges about $30 retail. I sometimes see this brand in cigar shops, though the price is usually closer to retail than the sale price.

7 – XIKAR 10 Count Cigar Humidor

Here it is – my overall favorite cigar travel case for 2024. XIKAR’s 10-count Cigar Humidor.

XIKAR is probably the top brand in this space. You’ve seen these cases all over the place. They probably sell them in your local cigar shop. I see them all the time traveling for business, in airports and in checked bags, and everywhere else.

Put simply, these cases feel the most secure, with strong clasps, and materials that feel substantial and heavy to the touch. The 8.5-inch width is larger than a lot of travel cases, so our friends who like big cigars can store their stogies in peace.

The only thing missing is a humidification device. That’s not what this case is all about. You can absolutely add your own aftermarket product to help humidify your sticks, but this case is more about protection during travel, not long-term storage.

This case is $50 retail. I have found it on sale online for like $45 or so . Not a lot of discounts on products like this that represent the market standard. If you find a better price, let me know in the comments.

8- San Antonio Cigar Case

This one just came to my attention in February 2024, and it’s a beauty — especially for such an affordable price. ($50 as I write this.) The San Antonio Cigar Case holds 4 large cigars, includes Spanish cedar, and it’s all wrapped up in leather. You can check out the latest price on Amazon by clicking here .

Travel humidors vary in capacity, ranging from single-cigar holders to cases that can hold 40 or more cigars, depending on the model.

Not all models include these features. Some are designed primarily for protection during travel, while others have built-in humidification systems and hygrometers for longer trips.

Look for features such as a robust seal, durable construction, internal humidification options, capacity appropriate for your needs, and possibly a built-in hygrometer.

For the design, this travel humidor is quite minimal.

Some cigar lovers appreciate a minimalist design, as it doesn’t draw too much attention. A more fancy cigar aficionado may want something more eye-catching, but they would still admire the functionality of the 3240 Travel Humidor.

Instead of soft leather, this cigar case uses a durable crush proof matte black fiber.

One of my favorite aspects about this cigar case is its ability to float on water. Yes, that means you won’t have to sweat if you just so happen to drop your humidor in the pool. This Cigar Caddy travel humidor offers your cigars protection in virtually all circumstances.

Nonetheless, the elegant leather and stellar interior features make this a fantastic portable travel humidor for a globe-trotting cigar smoker. The retro-grade soft leather is impressive, but let’s take a closer look at the inside.

Once you open the AMANCY Travel Humidor, you get a nice whiff of the Spanish wood.

Having Spanish cedar inside is important because it retains humidity and keeps your stogies fresh longer. Meanwhile, it adds to the overall aroma and ambiance of the cigar case, giving you a better experience when it comes time for smoking cigars.

In terms of accessories, you get a nice welcoming gift from AMANCY once you purchase this cigar humidor.

Inside is a high-quality stainless steel cutter, butane lighter, and a built-in humidifier disc. All of these components are essential for any cigar smoker looking to enjoy a few cigars while one the road.

Prestige Import Group The Manhattan Ostrich Leather Travel Humidor

Prestige Import Group The Manhattan Ostrich Leather Travel Humidor

If you’ve been in the cigar world for some time, chances are you’ve heard of Prestige Import Group.

That’s because they’re one of the leading producers of cigar humidors, and are known for their innovation and world-class designs. The Manhattan Ostrich Leather Travel Humidor is one of their most popular storage containers, and could possibly be the best choice for your favorite cigars.

Right from the get-go, this travel humidor is a bit more pricey than others on this list.

However, the quality features and durable casing justify the slightly higher price tag. Moreover, it’s an incredibly stylish travel humidor that is sure to garner attention from other cigar lovers.

The frame is made from premium ostrich motif leather, which is naturally durable and long-lasting. The feel of this travel humidor is outstanding, you’ll love touching it as you pack your bags. The elite leather also makes it a perfect gift if you’re looking to get a friend an exclusive present to suit their cigar collection.

One feature I truly love is the built-in ventilation system.

The case does an incredible job of circulating humidity so that moisture is evenly distributed among your cigars.

The Manhattan also comes with a handy sponge to create a suitable living space for your stogies while you’re on the road. All you need to do is dampen the sponge with distilled water, and your cigars will be safe and sound.

The leather straps also keep your cigars safe from collision. If you’re packing your cigar humidor in your checking bag, you won’t have to worry about them breaking or tearing. Furthermore, this case comes with a stainless steel cutter and a butane torch for easier smoking.

If you’re looking for the best gift for a friend or yourself, you can’t go wrong with the Manhattan.

Xifei Travel Cigar Case

Xifei Travel Cigar Case

One thing that can make or break a travel humidor is how easy it is to store in your bag. If a cigar box is too robust, then traveling with it will be daunting. As a result, you want something that’s compact, but can still fit multiple cigars.

Here’s where the Xifei Travel Cigar Case reigns supreme.

This travel humidor comes in a tube shape, making it far easier to store in your suitcase than other travel humidors. Meanwhile, the tubular shape is easier to carry in your hands.

That said, don’t let this case’s slim design fool you. It still comes with all the useful features you need to keep cigars safe while traveling.

What’s more, the airtight seal ring makes the Xifei Travel Cigar Case completely waterproof. I especially like how you can engrave text on the external layer. Giving your cigar humidor as a personal touch is always fun, and you’ll always know which one is yours.

On the lid you have an analog hygrometer for monitoring the internal humidity levels.

Some users report that calibrating the built-in hygrometer can be tricky.

However, it comes in handy once you get it down.

The humidifier disc will ensure enough moisture is inside to keep your cigars fresh as long as you need them.

If you’re wondering how many cigars can fit inside the Xifei Travel Cigar Case, the answer is between 3-5. If your stogies have a smaller ring gauge, you can easily fit 5. However, I’d recommend only sticking with three to four cigars to ensure they don’t get crushed.

La Cubana Travel Humidor

La Cubana Travel Humidor

For those that are after a more classic cigar humidor look and feel, then the La Cubana Travel Humidor is right up your alley.

Moreover, it comes with several useful features that make it one of the best travel humidors available. All of the components come together so your cigars remain fresh throughout your entire travel.

The cedar wood from Spain makes an excellent finish, as you’re probably already aware that Spanish cedar helps retain moisture and maintains freshness.

Combined with the cedar wood is an elegant modern design, sporting soft PU leather for added durability. The leather is extremely tight, so you don’t need to worry about any harmful compounds seeping through the humidor.

Unlike other travel cigar cases on our list, the La Cubana can fit many cigars at one time. The maximum capacity is 15, but that would depend on max length and ring gauge. The cedar lined interior also adds a nice aroma to your stogies and can help boost their flavors.

Finally, the La Cubana comes with a reliable lock and key mechanism for added security. You can rest assured knowing that nobody can access your cigars without your permission.

Volenx Cigar Case

Volenx Cigar Case

The Volenx Cigar Case has an intriguing design that’s just bound to draw attention. The black leather casing with the gold Volenx logo will make your cigar case stand out, and the material feels amazing in your hands.

On top of that, it comes with various features and benefits to provide that your cigars remain fresh and secure as you get to and from your destination.

Inside, there’s a useful cedar lining that helps create a better aroma and storage environment for your cigars. Moreover, the case is compact, lightweight, and will deter tobacco beetles.

The cedar wood inside also retains moisture, which is needed if you plan to keep your cigars in there for several days. The internal humidifier allows you to create an optimum storage environment for your stogies, circulating moisture throughout the case.

The secure clasps and zipper give you easy access to your cigars. Moreover, the removable cigar tray allows for better organization of your favorite cigars.

The only downside is that the Volenx is relatively bulky when compared to other travel cigar humidors of this size. That said, that extra layer of leather could be what keeps your cigars safe.

Mr. Brog Traveling Cigar Humidor

Mr. Brog Traveling Cigar Humidor

Last but not least, we have the Mr. Brog Traveling Cigar Humidor. In my opinion this is the best travel humidor if you plan on going on a long trip. That’s because this travel humidor comes with plenty of storage space and allows for easy organization.

You can handpick which cigars you want to smoke first and place them on top. The rest can be stored in a separate compartment at the bottom. In terms of design, it looks quite modern and sophisticated. The latch is incredibly easy to open, and the airtight seal will prevent any moisture from escaping once closed.

Meanwhile, the Mr. Brog is completely waterproof.

While it’s not ideal to place your humidor in water, you won’t need to sweat if you do it by accident.

For storage space, you can fit around 10-15 cigars depending on max length and ring gauge. I’d personally recommend only stashing 10 inside so you can leave room for a few accessories.

Inside you have a lining of high density urethane foam cushioning that offers ultimate protection for your stogies inside. The built-in humidifier also helps maintain proper humidity levels so that your cigars remain nice and moist.

The molded plastic casing is also exceptionally durable. If you happen to drop your travel humidor, you won’t need to worry as the material is shock proof. Considering all these features and the relatively low price, you really can’t go wrong by choosing the Mr. Brog

What To Look For When Choosing Travel Humidors

If you’re thinking about investing in a travel humidor, then you’re making a wise decision. They make traveling with cigars so much easier, and reduce stress by offering adequate protection for your precious stogies.

That said, you need to know what qualities make a reliable travel humidor. To make your life easier, I’ve included this guide to teach you what factors to look for before reaching your decision.

1. Look for Durability

Since your travel humidor will be moving around a lot, it’s crucial that you choose something durable. Moreover, you need something that can handle a wide range of elements, such as heat, cold, water, etc. Otherwise, your humidor could break while in transit and your cigar stash would be ruined.

Investing in a travel humidor is like anything else, your goal is to not have to buy a new one. Choosing one that’s durable will provide that you can use your travel humidor over and over again without issues.

Luckily, all the humidors listed above are made from durable materials and contain several components that add security to your cigars. From stainless steel hinges to tough cedar wood, there are several materials used to construct a durable travel humidor.

2. Consider Storage Space

One drawback of using a travel humidor is the limited storage space. It makes sense considering you don’t need to take your entire cigar collection with you on the road. However, you should still try to find a container that offers sufficient storage space for your travels.

In most cases, you probably don’t need to pack more than 10-15 cigars at a time. There are a few portable humidors that offer that kind of storage capacity, but most are in the 5-10 range. That said, some of the smaller portable humidors might be more resilient and reliable.

Furthermore, you can usually fit more cigars if you pack shorter stogies. You might not be able to cram all your favorite Churchills inside a travel humidor, so you might need to compromise and pack your corona. Remember to think about how many cigars you plan on taking with you before you invest in a travel humidor.

3. Good Portability Is Crucial

I can’t stress how vital portability is when choosing a travel humidor. That’s because I’ve been down the road of having a robust humidor in my suitcase during my trips. All it does is create more frustration and take up much-needed space in your bag.

The travel humidor you choose needs to be simple to carry around, whether it’s to your buddy’s house or halfway around the world. If it’s too much of an inconvenience, it defeats the whole purpose of buying a travel case.

While you want to make sure you get a case that can fit a decent number of cigars, try to refrain from choosing the biggest one possible. You’ll thank me later when you’re not putting in a ridiculous amount of effort transporting your cigars.

4. Choose the Right Price

Like with all cigar products, you want to make sure you’re getting a good bang for your buck. It’s only natural considering smoking cigars isn’t always the cheapest pastime. Fortunately, portable humidors tend to be cheaper.

You can typically find reliable options well under $50. That said, don’t always go with the cheapest option. Above, I mention that you want something durable, portable, and spacious enough for your on-the-go stash.

If you go cheap, chances are you won’t get all three of those. In fact, you might get a humidor that breaks after your first trip. Instead, find a nice humidor that’s within your budget . With all the options on the market, it shouldn’t be too challenging.

Are travel humidors worth it?

A question I hear a lot is whether or not investing in a travel humidor is worth it. A lot of cigar lovers skip out on investing in a travel humidor because they have their own method of temporary storage.

Some just place their cigars and a plastic humidifier inside a Ziploc bag and hope for the best. While there are other ways you can transport cigars, investing in a reliable travel humidor is the safest way to go.

It doesn’t matter if you’re headed to a work event, a friend’s house, or going on a family vacation. A travel humidor provides you with everything you need to keep your cigars safe while you travel.

Since they are cost-effective, I don’t see a reason to not give one a try. As long as you pick one that aligns with your style and needs, then you’re bound to have a pleasant experience.

How long can you keep cigars in a travel humidor?

The length of which you can keep your cigars in a travel humidor depends on the case you get.

Ones made from cedar wood retain a sufficient amount of humidity for long-term storage. Plastic humidors might not have the same effect.

In general, cigars can stay inside a travel humidor anywhere from 14 to 90 days. After about 3 months, you’ll need to find a more long-term storage solution. However, most people don’t travel for that long.

How do you keep cigars fresh when traveling?

Maintaining your travel humidor while on the road is similar to using a standard humidor. You need to fill the humidifier with distilled water or a PG solution and keep your eyes on the hygrometer (if it comes with one).

What’s more, occasionally monitor your cigars to see if they’re drying out or becoming too moist. If you choose a dependable travel case, then it should have a tight seal that will trap the moisture inside.

How do you humidify a travel humidor?

Now that you know you need to keep the inside of your travel humidor moist, how do you go about doing that? While not all travel humidors have the same setup routine, there are a few basics you’ll need to know to ensure success:

  • Open the humidor and place your cigars on top of the foam or cedar lining
  • Place the humidification unit inside the humidor above your cigars
  • Close your humidor and make sure it’s sealed shut
  • That’s it!

As you can see, setting up a travel humidor is quite straightforward. Some cases might require a little more attention to filling the humidifier or seasoning the wood. But in most cases, you’ll just need to place your humidification unit inside along with your cigars.

Can you use a travel humidor as a regular humidor?

If you’ve gotten your hands on a stylish travel case, you might be wondering if you can use it as your standard humidor. In most cases, a travel humidor won’t work for long-term storage. However, you might be able to only use a travel case if you don’t have an ongoing collection.

For example, a person that only owns a few cigars at a time and smokes often probably doesn’t need a sophisticated desktop humidor or cigar cabinet. A travel humidor might be enough to maintain that small collection.

However, you’ll need something larger if you plan on owning more than 10 cigars at once.

Reviewing all the best travel humidors has certainly got me in the mood to hit the road.

Personally, the Galiner travel cigar humidor is my favorite.

If you need a travel cigar humidor case that gets the job done without breaking the bank, then you can’t go wrong with the Galiner.

As you can see, there are several options out there that are perfect for storing stogies on-the-go, and you should definitely check them out for yourself.

What is a Travel Humidor?

A travel humidor is a portable storage device designed to maintain a consistent humidity level for cigars while on the move.

Whether you’re going on a short business trip or a lengthy vacation, a travel humidor ensures that your cigars stay fresh, properly humidified, and ready to enjoy.

They vary in size, design, and material, but all have the common purpose of protecting cigars from harsh environmental conditions and physical damage.

They are specially engineered to combat pressure changes, temperature fluctuations, and other travel-related stresses.

Why is a Travel Humidor Necessary?

Travel humidors are necessary for several reasons.

When traveling, your cigars are exposed to varying humidity levels and temperatures, which can negatively affect their flavor and burn rate.

With a travel humidor, you ensure your cigars remain at their peak condition no matter where you are.

Moreover, travel humidors provide physical protection, preventing cigars from being crushed or damaged during transportation.

They are built to be durable and often come with secure clasps or locks to keep your cigars safe.

What Factors Should I Consider When Buying a Travel Humidor?

When buying a travel humidor, consider the following factors:

  • Size and Capacity: How many cigars do you plan to carry? Travel humidors can accommodate anywhere from 5 to 100 cigars.
  • Material: Travel humidors are made from various materials, including wood, leather, and plastic. The choice of material can impact the humidor’s durability and effectiveness in maintaining humidity.
  • Seal Quality: A good seal is crucial to prevent humidity from escaping. Check for a humidor with a strong, tight seal.
  • Portability: Consider the humidor’s weight and dimensions. If you’re a frequent traveler, opt for a lightweight, compact design.

What is the Best Material for a Travel Humidor?

Travel humidors are typically made from plastic, metal, or wood, each with its own pros and cons:

How Many Cigars Can a Travel Humidor Hold?

Travel humidors can hold anywhere from 1 to 100 cigars, depending on their size.

However, most travel humidors are designed to hold between 5 and 20 cigars, which is often enough for most trips.

How Do I Maintain a Travel Humidor?

Maintaining a travel humidor involves monitoring and regulating the humidity levels and occasionally cleaning the interior.

A hygrometer can help track humidity, while a humidifier (either a passive sponge-type or an active electronic one) can regulate it.

Clean the interior with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap, then dry thoroughly to prevent mold growth.

Does the Shape of the Cigar Matter When Choosing a Travel Humidor?

Yes, the shape of the cigar does matter when choosing a travel humidor.

Different cigar shapes require different storage space, and not all travel humidors can accommodate every cigar shape.

For example, a travel humidor that can hold 10 Coronas might only hold 6 Torpedos.

Always check the interior design and spacing of the humidor before purchasing.

Is a Travel Humidor Better Than a Regular Humidor?

A travel humidor is not necessarily better or worse than a regular humidor – it’s more about their different uses.

Regular humidors are ideal for long-term storage at home or in a stationary location, while travel humidors are designed for temporary storage during travel.

If you often bring cigars on your trips, a travel humidor is a necessary addition to a regular home humidor.

Are Travel Humidors Worth the Investment?

Yes, travel humidors are worth the investment, especially if you frequently travel with cigars.

They not only ensure the quality of your cigars by maintaining ideal humidity levels but also provide physical protection.

Without a travel humidor, cigars can dry out, become unsmokable, or even be crushed during transportation.

Wrapping Up

Before embarking on your next journey, make sure you’re equipped with all the necessary travel gear essentials , including a top-notch travel humidor.

Navigating the world of cigars can be a complex endeavor, particularly when it comes to preserving their freshness during your travels.

As we’ve discussed throughout this guide, a travel humidor is an invaluable asset for any cigar enthusiast on the move.

It provides an optimal environment for your cigars, safeguarding them against unfavorable conditions, and ensuring you can enjoy them at their best no matter where you are.

Remember, when selecting a travel humidor, prioritize its capacity, the quality of the material, seal, and portability.

Moreover, remember that routine maintenance is key to keeping your travel humidor at peak performance.

We hope this guide has shed light on the importance of the best travel humidors and how to choose the right one.

And for those of you wondering about cruise ship policies on smoking alternatives, our guide on ‘ Can you vape on cruise ships ‘ sheds light on the rules you should be aware of.

Here’s to many more flavorful and fresh cigars on your travels!

The Moscow Kremlin

The churches inside the Moscow Kremlin are the Cathedral of the Dormition, Church of the Archangel, Church of the Annunciation, and the bell tower of Ivan Veliki (a church tower).

The five-domed Cathedral of the Dormition is considered the most famous. It was built from 1475–1479 by an Italian architect and has served as a wedding and coronation place for great princes, tsars, and emperors of Russia. Church services are given in the Kremlin’s numerous cathedrals on a regular basis.

The Grand Kremlin Palace was the former Tsar’s Moscow residence and today it serves as the official workplace of the President of the Russian Federation (Vladimir Putin seems to have bagged that title for life) .

St. Basils Cathedral

The interior of the church surprises most people when they visit. In contrast to the large exterior, the inside is not so much one large area, but rather a collection of smaller areas, with many corridors and small rooms. There are 9 small chapels and one mausoleum grouped around a central tower.

Visiting the inside is like walking through a maze, there are even small signs all around the cathedral tracing where to walk, and pointing you in the right direction! The walls are meticulously decorated and painted with intricate floral designs and religious themes.

The park is beautiful and well maintained with paths to walk on and benches to rest on. The park contains three separate gardens: the upper garden, middle garden, and lower garden.

The Alexander Garden

Located in the upper garden, towards the main entrance to the park is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with its eternal flame. This monument was created in 1967 and contains the body of a soldier who fell during the Great Patriotic War!

The park stretches along all the length of the western Kremlin wall for about half a mile. Due to its central location in the city, it’ll be easily accessible when you’re out exploring The Red Square.

Museum of Soviet Arcade Games

The best part is, most of the games are still playable! Purchase tickets and try the games out for yourself! The museum also has a neat little screening room that plays old Soviet cartoons and an area with Soviet magazines! This unique attraction is a fun addition to a 3 day itinerary in Moscow, and an attraction that all ages will enjoy!

Whether you’re spending one day in Moscow, or more, safety is an important thing to keep in mind when traveling to a big city! Overall, Moscow is a very safe place to visit. However, it is always recommended that tourists take certain precautions when traveling to a new destination!

The police in Moscow is extremely effective at making the city a safe place to visit and do their best to patrol all of the top Moscow, Russia tourist attractions. However, tourists can still be a target for pickpockets and scammers.

Moscow has a huge flow of tourists, therefore there is a risk for pickpocketing. Simple precautions will help eliminate your chances of being robbed. Stay vigilant, keep your items close to you at all times, and don’t flash your valuables!

If you’re planning a solo Moscow itinerary, you should have no need to worry, as the city is also considered safe for solo travelers, even women. Stay in the populated areas, try and not travel alone late at night, and never accept rides from strangers or taxis without a meter and correct signage.

The threat of natural disasters in Moscow is low, with the exception of severe winters when the temperature can dip below freezing! Bring a good, warm jacket if you visit in Winter.

However, please note that Russian views on homsexuality are far less accepting than those in Western Europe. Likewise, Non-Caucasian travellers may sadly encounter racism in Russia .

Don’t Forget Your Travel Insurance for Moscow

ALWAYS sort out your backpacker insurance before your trip. There’s plenty to choose from in that department, but a good place to start is Safety Wing .

They offer month-to-month payments, no lock-in contracts, and require absolutely no itineraries: that’s the exact kind of insurance long-term travellers and digital nomads need.

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

7-day Moscow itinerary

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

travel itinerary for one week in Moscow

How to Get a Decent Haircut in a Foreign Country

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

exploring Moscow

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Moscow sights

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

top things to do in Moscow

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

one week Moscow itinerary

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

12 Stunning National Parks and Regional Parks In France

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

Moscow itinerary

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

things to do in Moscow in seven days

You Will Also Like: 3-Day London Itinerary

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

Random Russian guy

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!
