Located in the Nelson M. Millsberg Platypus Habitat, these platypuses are the only two in the world currently residing outside of Australia. In addition to witnessing these one-of-a-kind freshwater wonders, guests can explore Walkabout Australia’s grasslands with Western gray kangaroos, see tree kangaroos up close, and interact with Australian wildlife ambassadors.

SAFARI EXPERIENCES*: The Africa Tram is an exciting expedition that takes guests on a guided adventure 2.5 miles around one of the Safari Park’s expansive savanna habitats. This guided tour provides guests the opportunity to connect with towers of giraffes, crashes of rhinos and flocks of exotic birds on a closer level. The tram is an open-air, soft-wheeled vehicle inspired by the legendary safari trains of Africa. The Africa Tram is included in Safari Park admission.

A Behind-the-Scenes Safari allows guests to venture deep into the Safari Park and get a closer look at their favorite wildlife, and meet the wildlife care specialists who care for them. During these small-group tours, a quiet electric safari cart takes guests to exclusive areas not accessible to the public, where a knowledgeable guide shares how we care for wildlife, design state-of-the-art habitats, and carry out conservation work in San Diego and around the globe. Behind-the-Scenes Safaris are subject to availability.

A Wildlife Safari is a great way to see antelope, giraffes, rhinos and more from the comfort of a covered, open-air safari truck, and journey into our African savanna habitats with an expert guide. Get an up-close view of African wildlife, including some of our newest babies! Wildlife Safaris are subject to availability.

A Cart Safari brings guests amazing views of wildlife—in our African savanna or Asian savanna habitats—from the comfort of our intimate safari carts. A knowledgeable guide will share information about our wildlife, and our conservation work locally and around the world. The relaxed pace allows for a more personalized look at the Safari Park, and includes stops to capture great photos. Cart Safaris are subject to availability.

Flightline Safari , an exciting zip line adventure, allows guests to soar like a condor over the Safari Park. Riders enjoy instruction and a short fledgling flight before taking a safari vehicle to the top of a hill overlooking the San Pasqual Valley. From there, riders soar more than two-thirds of a mile over the Asian and African savanna habitats of exotic wildlife, including rhinos and antelope. Flightline Safaris are subject to availability.

Enjoy unbelievable views shared only by the birds that soar over the Safari Park grounds! Modeled after the hot air balloon tours of the Serengeti, the Balloon Safari tethered helium balloon rises silently up to 400 feet. Adventurers spend 10 to 12 minutes in the sky over the Safari Park. The best time to fly is 9 a.m. to noon, and approximate hours of balloon operation are 9 a.m. to dusk.

Roar & Snore Safari is an overnight tent-camping experience that overlooks the East Africa savanna habitat, the Safari Park’s largest, inhabited by giraffes, rhinos, antelope and more. Seasoned campers may enjoy a Classic or Vista tent, while those who prefer a more luxurious experience should check out our Premium Tents with queen-size beds and other amenities. Campers enjoy walking tours, meals and up-close wildlife encounters. In addition to All Ages Roar & Snore Safaris, Adults Only Roar & Snore Safaris are available for ages 21 and older. There are special themed nights for various holidays and events. The Supreme Roar & Snore includes upgraded adventure elements including a zip line flight, Night Vision Safari, VIP viewing of a wildlife ambassador and more.

Sun Up Cheetah Safari gives visitors a chance to witness the fastest animals on land doing what they do best, all before the Safari Park opens. Safari guests take an early morning expedition with an experienced guide and enjoy the remarkable sights and sounds as a new day begins. The journey provides safari-goers with one of the only ways to see the Park’s bachelor gorillas. Once at our original Cheetah Run area, guests have a rare opportunity to see a wildlife ambassador cheetah run at top speed! Visitors then top off the experience with a morning tram ride. Bwabwata National Park safari | Travel guide

Bwabwata National Park is a large but little-known, sub-tropical game reserve in north-eastern Namibia. The park is an amalgamation of the Mahango and Caprivi Game Reserves and is an exceptional big game and birding safari destination.

Bwabwata includes a number of zones: the Divundu area, the West Caprivi Triangle, the Mahango Game Reserve, Popa Falls, former West Caprivi Game Reserve and the Kwando Core Area.

The Mahango Game Reserve presently has the largest concentrations of wildlife, while the Kwando Core Area is where the repopulation of carnivores is really taking off.

Table of Contents

Why visit Bwabwata National Park?

Bwabwata national park safari.

Bwabwata National Park is likely Namibia’s most unique protected area. With verdant landscapes, Bwabwata is home to abundant wildlife and several villages, making it quite different from Namibia’s other parks.

Humans and animals coexist within the national park which have led to novel conservation efforts to protect the wildlife within the borders of Bwabwata but also to improve the standard of living for the local population that calls this area home.

Bwabwata is also a key migration route of the famed elephants of Chobe National Park, making their journey from the Angolan Highlands to Botswana every year.

Safari visitors to the park will have access to this area’s unique biodiversity – self-drives are common on designated roads while an all-wheel drive and professional guide are recommended for authentic game viewing safaris.

Bwabwata National Park impala

Four of the Big Five are present, with rhinos excluded, but wildlife densities are low and animals tend to be skittish.

The abundance of water in the region supports huge herds of game and bird species. Animals that you will likely come across are African elephants, blue wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, a variety of large and small sable antelope, crocodile and hippopotamus.

Predators like the cheetah, spotted hyena and red lechwe can also be found but the dense bush and abundant water make this more of a challenge – more like a genuine safari of old where no wildlife sightings are guaranteed and you see and experience nature the way it is meant to be.

Visitors can also expect to see lions (which are making a big comeback in the area), leopards, African wild dogs, giraffes and the usual impala and kudu.

In the rainy season, the drainage lines fill with rain that sits in natural pans, providing drinking water for game long into the dry months. Once the water evaporates completely, the game moves to the Kwando and Kavango rivers.

Bwabwata National Park elephants

The Mahango Area and Kavango River in western Bwabwata are listed as an internationally Important Bird Area supporting globally threatened species and is an avian diversity hotspot.

Visitors can expect to find black-winged pratincole, slaty egret, wattled crane, African skimmer, African pygmy-goose, coppery-tailed coucal, white-backed night heron, rufous-bellied heron, Allen’s gallinule, Dickinson’s kestrel and the black-faced babbler.

Other birds known in the area include the swamp boubou, collared palm thrush, Meves’s starling, southern ground hornbill, barred owlet, Bennett’s woodpecker, wood owl, various warblers and cisticolas.

Bwabwata National Park African fish eagle

Bwabwata falls into the Tree and Shrub Savanna biome which is known for wetlands, floodplains and woodlands. Not many places allow you to experience the variety of sand dunes, swamps, forest and green river beds that this one does

Other activities at Bwabwata National Park

Here are some other Namibian safari activities that visitors to Bwabwata National Park can look forward to on their trip:

  • Game drive: Exploring Bwabwata National Park’s wildlife with spectacular views of large concentrations of elephants and buffalo as well as one of the last refuges of the wild dog in Namibia and hippo along the rivers.
  • Sundowners: On floating pontoons, go game viewing by boat, sunset cruises and canoeing adventures, a great way to relax. From a houseboat, you can watch wildlife at the water’s edge at prime times and enjoy wonderful passing scenery whilst cruising along.
  • Bush walks: Walk with professional guides at a peaceful, relaxed pace through the extraordinary Bwabwata NP where you can see birds wildlife and beautiful tree species

How to get to Bwabwata National Park?

You can fly to one of two airports: Hosea Kutako Windhoek International Airport or Kasane Airport in Botswana. From there the park can be reached by the B8 Trans-Caprivi Highway where it is located 200 km east of Rundu.

Trips to Bwabwata National Park are often combined to the Caprivi Strip and Etosha National Park .

Located off the Trans-Caprivi Strip Highway 900 kilometres from Windhoek, Bwabwata National Park isn’t a place you just end up as it’s quite out of the way from most of the other big destinations in Namibia.

Most visitors to Bwabwata arrive independently, rather than on organized tours as the national park is typically not on tour itineraries.

Carrying a small amount of local Namibian currency , the Namibian Dollar (NAD) is advised for smaller purchases.

Regulations

If you keep to park rules, you can stay with the animals as long as they are not disturbed by your presence.

Accommodation at Bwabwata National Park

Tourists at Bwabwata National Park can choose from a number of different options when deciding where to sleep.

Accommodation in the form of safari lodges ranging from luxury to low budget can be found just outside Bwabwata’s borders.

Namushasha River Lodge celebrates the wonders of the Zambezi water world with accommodation fit for a king.

Namushasha’s impressive central entrance, designed in true African style with a wooden chandelier and carved animals, leads guests into the attractive lodge set between the trees. The dining room, with its high thatched roof, is open on the sides to the river world, providing a suitable – and airy – welcome to wonderland.

Standard twin rooms, triple rooms and family rooms are available with prices for a 1-night stay for 2 adults at Namushasha River Lodge starting from USD $225, excluding taxes and fees.

Alternative lodge options includes Divundu Guest house which offers more affordable accomodation in a beautiful nature surrounding with clean ablutions, friendly staff, a restaurant as well as breakfast included.

Bwabwata has three community-operated campsites within the park, namely Nǁgoabaca, Nambwa and Bum Hill. Local communities, organised into communal area conservancies, earn revenue from these campsites.

Guests on a self-drive safari with a campervan can make significant savings by sleeping in their vehicle.

Bars/restaurants/amenities

Lodges will typically have all meals and drinks included in the lodge package.

Useful information

Bwabwata National Park occupies a large part of north-eastern Namibia in an area known as the Caprivi, which forms the northern part of Botswana’s Okavango Delta and Chobe regions.

The Bwabwata National Park is a sub-tropical climate – it is very hot and humid in summer, with heavy rainfall during the wet season (November to March).

The average rainfall is 550 – 600 mm per year, which makes it the wettest region in Namibia. The best time for game viewing is from April to September and it is during this period the weather is at its most pleasant as well.

During these dry winter months you can expect comfortable temperatures between 26 – 28°C (79 – 82°F) during the day.

Best time to go

Understanding the best time to visit Namibia is important as this will impact accommodation, flight prices, availability and the weather that visitors can expect on their safari vacation.

The best time for game viewing is from April to September and it is during this period the weather is at its most pleasant as well. Animals congregate around reliable water sources and foliage shrinks back due to the lack of rain, making it easier to spot wildlife.

Your doctor can also provide you with assistance in preventing malaria, which is a major concern in Bwabwata NP, especially in the wet months from October to April.

Anti-malarials are strongly advised, as well as covering up in the evening and using mosquito repellent (those containing DEET are most effective).

It is recommended to visit a travel clinic before coming to Namibia. Several Namibia vaccinations are recommended and usually administered before your departure.

Where is Bwabwata National Park located?

Bwabwata National Park occupies a large part of north-eastern Namibia in an area known as the Caprivi. Visitors can fly to one of two airports: Windhoek International (WDH) or Kasane Airport in Botswana. From there the park can be reached by the B8 Trans-Caprivi Highway.

What animals will visitors see at Bwabwata National Park?

Visitors to Bwabwata National Park will see Four of the Big Five including rhinos, elephants, blue wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, sable antelope, crocodile, hippopotamus, cheetah, spotted hyena, African wild dogs, giraffes and impala.

Juan Martinez in safari Car

Select the right country to visit:

Selecting the right country for your safari adventure is crucial when considering your budget. Not all safari destinations are created equal when it comes to cost. While some experiences may require a hefty investment, there are options available that won’t break the bank.

Countries like Botswana and Rwanda are known for their luxurious and expensive safari experiences. On the other hand, countries with higher tourism and more options tend to offer more affordable prices for equally fantastic safari adventures.

If you’re looking for budget-friendly safari destinations, consider exploring:

  • South Africa

These countries have a well-developed safari infrastructure, offering a range of packages to suit various budgets. By choosing the right destination, you can have an incredible safari experience without stretching your finances.

A group of giraffe in Serengeti National Park

Choose affordable national parks

While Masai Mara is undoubtedly the top national park in Kenya, it’s important to note that it is also one of the most expensive safari destinations in the world. Traveling for a safari in Kenya or South Africa doesn’t mean your budget will have no limits. It means you’ll need to do thorough research to save some money.

But don’t worry, these countries offer excellent safari experiences in other national parks at a fraction of the cost. While it may not be as spectacular as witnessing the wildebeest migration in Masai Mara, I can assure you that it will still be a worthwhile experience.

Here are three affordable national parks that I highly recommend for your next safari:

Tarangire National Park, Tanzania:

Located in northern Tanzania, Tarangire National Park is renowned for its large elephant herds, iconic baobab trees, and diverse birdlife. It provides more affordable safari options compared to its neighboring Serengeti. You can find camping sites and budget-friendly lodges both within and outside the park boundaries.

Etosha National Park, Namibia:

Etosha National Park is famous for its expansive salt pans and abundant wildlife. With a range of affordable accommodation options available, including campsites and self-catering lodges, you can explore the park at your own pace and enjoy incredible game viewing at the waterholes.

Amboseli National Park, Kenya:

Amboseli National Park is another fantastic option for an affordable safari experience. Known for its iconic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli offers stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, and cultural interactions with the local Maasai community. The park is particularly renowned for its large herds of elephants, as well as other wildlife species like lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, and various bird species.

Travel during the Shoulder Seasons:

To not only avoid the crowds but also save some money, consider traveling during the shoulder seasons. These are the months before and after the peak tourist season, and they offer unique advantages for photographers and safari enthusiasts. While perfect conditions may not be guaranteed every day, they are highly likely to occur during these periods.

During the shoulder seasons, prices can drop as much as 50% compared to the high season. In my experience, this is the best way to maximize your savings when planning a safari trip. Here are the shoulder seasons for some of the key safari destinations:

Masai Mara National Reserve:

  • Shoulder Season 1: March to May
  • Shoulder Season 2: October to November

Serengeti National Park:

  • Shoulder Season 2: November

Kruger National Park:

  • Shoulder Season 1: April to May
  • Shoulder Season 2: September to October

By visiting these parks during the shoulder seasons, you can enjoy lower prices, fewer crowds, and still have the opportunity to witness incredible wildlife sightings and capture stunning photographs.

Wildebeest Migration in Masai Mara

Join a safari group (but not a safari bus)

It’s evident that traveling in a group can help you have a safari experience on a budget. This is a common realization for many travelers. However, I want to emphasize the significant difference between traveling on a tour and traveling in a small group.

Tour companies like G-Adventures or Intrepid may offer attractive deals at first glance, and they certainly do provide value. However, when I crunched the numbers and compared the costs of traveling with a larger tour group (15+ people) versus a small group of just three other travelers, the difference was minimal.

While traveling with these companies may offer the cheapest available cost, I believe that a more memorable experience can be achieved by finding two or three like-minded individuals to join you and opting for a private vehicle for your safari.

So, where can you find people to join your group? Personally, I prefer traveling in small groups and often rely on hostel meetings, Facebook groups, and travel forums to connect with new travel buddies who are interested in joining me on my adventures. For safari trips, I often reach out to friends, but I also find the Facebook Group “Backpacking East Africa” to be a valuable resource for finding potential travel companions.

I prefer to travel with small groups

Understand your fix and variable costs

When planning a safari on a budget, it’s important to consider both fixed and variable costs. While certain expenses like flight tickets, visas, and entry fees to national parks are beyond your control, there are other aspects that you can adapt to fit your budget.

Variable costs such as accommodation, vehicle type, and itinerary play a significant role in planning an affordable safari. Accommodation options can vary greatly, and there can be a substantial difference between staying inside a national park versus outside. Additionally, some national parks like Etosha National Park offer public camping sites or private hotels, providing options for different budgets.

By opting for camping, you can significantly reduce your accommodation costs, often by more than 50%. Additionally, in popular destinations like Masai Mara, choosing to stay at guesthouses located near the park entrance instead of inside the park can save you up to 100 EUR.

Being flexible with your accommodation choices and exploring alternative options can help you stretch your budget while still enjoying a rewarding safari experience. It’s all about finding the right balance between cost-saving measures and making the most of your adventure.

Where should I not be cheap: I cannot stress enough how crucial it is to travel in a dedicated safari vehicle. It is a fundamental aspect of any safari I undertake, and I can confidently tell you that opting for a small van or a vehicle not specifically designed for safaris will only result in frustration due to the lack of comfort and limited visibility.

Where should I not skimp on expenses? While it may be tempting to save money by choosing a cheaper vehicle, I strongly advise against it. The diminished comfort and compromised views will outweigh any potential savings. Investing in a quality safari vehicle will enhance your overall experience and ensure that you can fully appreciate the wonders of the wildlife and surroundings during your safari.

What about Self-Drive Safaris?

Many blogs are advocating for the cost-saving benefits of self-driving safaris, but I fail to grasp the logic behind it. While self-drive safaris can be more adventurous and enjoyable for experienced independent travelers, I believe it is one of the least favorable choices for someone who is new to safaris.

For first-time safari-goers, embarking on a self-drive safari can lead to numerous challenges and drawbacks. Without prior knowledge of animal sighting locations and timings, you may find yourself more focused on navigating the roads rather than spotting wildlife. Additionally, you may need to acquire additional insurances and pay entry fees to drive within certain areas. Overall, I see more negatives than positives when it comes to self-driving safaris for beginners.

Even in self-drive-friendly destinations like Etosha National Park, I personally prefer entering the park with my own vehicle and then hiring a driver for a more personalized experience. By dividing the cost among fellow travelers (usually a group of four), the expense becomes quite reasonable. Having a knowledgeable guide accompanying you provides valuable insights about the species you encounter, and you can fully immerse yourself in the experience without worrying about flat tires or running out of fuel.

We traveled for an hour and a half to Clark Safari and Adventure Park. It is a big, instagrammable zoo in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.

We bought our tickets at the entrance of the park. Here are the 2023 Clark Safari and Adventure Park entrance fees:

They have a very photogenic entrance so we also took some photos before we entered the park.

They do not allow food and drinks inside the zoo but you can buy them inside the zoo.

The first area we entered is the Lagoon. It has big statues of giraffes and elephants in the middle of it. They also have a Kids Spot area where you can take instagrammable photos.

The first area with real animals is the Reptile Kingdom. They have a lot of turtles here – baby turtles and really big ones too like the African Spurred Tortoise.

Next, we saw a lot of crocodiles! It was a bit scary at first because there were a lot of them.

We also saw some cool big iguanas there like the Green Iguanas. It was so cool because they were living with turtles!

There were a lot of interesting, and a bit scary, reptiles in this zoo.

Rin’s Petting Zoo

Next, we went to Rin’s Petting Zoo. We saw a lot of fish there and we got to feed rabbits and goats. It was so much fun! This is my favorite part of the zoo.

Clark Safari and Adventure Park I Jamie's Escapades

Next, we went to see the bears! They had a very big area and we had a hard time seeing them first because they were sleeping.

We saw baboons beside the bears. There were quite a few of them!

⭐ Tip! Bring a camera with a good zoom if you want to take pictures. Sometimes, they sleep at the back and it can be hard to take pictures with just a phone.

We saw some Taal rescue horses in the middle of the zoo. We got some snacks and drinks in this area too.

There were also ostriches and zebras here.

I liked exploring Clark Safari and Adventure Park.

It is very clean and photogenic, the petting zoo was really fun for me and my brother and it is so huge! I wish they have an elephant and a giraffe but that’s ok since we had a great time.

Moscow Kremlin in 1700

No comments · Posted by Sergei Rzhevsky in Architecture , History

Moscow Kremlin 1700 is a graphical reconstruction of the Moscow fortress at the beginning of the 18th century. Engravings and plans made at the time, as well as more recent and modern reconstructions, were used to make these pictures.

By the beginning of the 18th century, the architectural ensemble of the Moscow Kremlin was completed, and the fortress received a recognizable look. You can see several undamaged buildings that later came to decay. Pictures by: Moscow Kremlin 1700 .
