Specials & Offers For Your Getaway

Newsletter signup, visitor guide, teams ’22 to convene sports-events industry, conference in oklahoma city will focus on title ix, youth sports and the olympic and paralympic movement.

The TEAMS Conference & Expo, presented by  SportsTravel  and hosted by the  Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau , will convene the sports-events industry at a time when sports events are leading the travel and tourism comeback. TEAMS ’22 at the Oklahoma City Convention Center will also feature educational programming from leaders in the industry, including explorations of the 50th anniversary of Title IX and the state of youth sports, and deep dives into the latest trends in sports-related travel.

TEAMS ’22  — to be held October 24–27 — will feature programming in partnership with the  U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee , which will host its NGB Best Practices Seminar for the national governing bodies of Olympic and Paralympic sport, as well as SportsLink, an educational series designed to unite NGBs with the destinations and venues interested in hosting their events. SportsLink topics will include Oklahoma City’s rise as an Olympic and Paralympic training site for paddle sports, the growth of the NCAA Women’s College World Series and the potential for a new sports series with multiple governing bodies competing at combined events.

The conference will also once again see the  National Congress of State Games  locate its annual symposium with TEAMS and recognize its Athletes of the Year and lifetime achievement winners at the  SportsTravel  Awards luncheon on October 26. Two new partnerships will also be highlighted during the week, including the  National Council of Youth Sports , which will recognize National Youth Sports Week during TEAMS, and  Compete Sports Diversity , which will honor its person of the year in the sports industry who has dedicated themselves to issues of diversity. The  Sports Events and Tourism Association  will also offer education that will count as credit toward its Sports Tourism Strategist certification.

“TEAMS ’22 will see attendance even greater than we saw before the pandemic began, which is reflective of the growth and vitality of the sports-events industry,” said  Jason   Gewirtz , vice president of Northstar Travel Group’s Sports Division and the executive editor and publisher of  SportsTravel . “There is reason to believe the industry is more than back, and TEAMS ’22 in Oklahoma City is a prime example.”

Impactful Speakers

The Opening Session for TEAMS ’22 and SportsLink will examine what may be the most consequential piece of legislation to the Olympic and Paralympic movement and the sports landscape in the United States. From its signing in 1972, Title IX has become the backbone for which women’s sports have climbed from decades of inequity and ignorance to the spot they have today.

In a session exploring the anniversary, panelists will discuss the leaps that women’s sports have made in the past 50 years but also what remains to be done in the future for true equality to be achieved. Along with USA Hockey superstar  Hilary   Knight , also appearing will be Oklahoma City resident  Kaleo   Maclay , a Paralympian in sitting volleyball; 1984 Olympic gold medalist  Benita   Fitzgerald   Mosley ; USRowing Chief Executive Officer  Amanda   Kraus ; and Greater Columbus Sports Commission Executive Director  Linda   Logan .

One of the best examples of the increased visibility of women’s sports in recent years is the NCAA Women’s College World Series, which has become one of the most-watched softball tournaments in the world. But that growth hasn’t come by accident. Leaders from Oklahoma City, the NCAA and USA Softball, and Olympian  Aubree   Munro , will discuss how they have partnered for the long term on stadium development, event development, marketing and promotion to take an event that was already a best-in-class tournament to a new level.

Oklahoma City is known for more than just softball. The revitalization of the Oklahoma River has allowed the city to become the center of rowing and canoe/kayak and is a case study in how a destination can rethink its landscape with creative thinking and community goodwill. After hearing from Riversport’s  Mike   Knopp , Oklahoma City National High Performance Center’s  Reilly   Dampeer , Paralympian  Blake   Haxton , Olympic hopeful  Gus   Cooke  and  Beth   Spilman  of the American Canoe Association, attendees will tour some of the city’s Boathouse District and see how a community investment in sports can be a benefit on and off the field of play.

Another SportsLink session will examine how the concept of an Olympic and Paralympic sport series is one where NGBs can combine resources by hosting several of their championships in one location, adding overall prestige to the events and increasing community interest in a variety of sports. Among the panelists will be USA Table Tennis Chief Executive Officer  Virginia   Sung , Indiana Sports Corp President  Patrick   Talty  and  Tom   Shephard  of Shephard Consulting.

The State of Youth Sports

Along with SportsLink panels, TEAMS educational sessions will include deep dive on the state of youth sports. The conversation will include  Wayne   Moss , the executive director of the National Council of Youth Sports, and  Ju’Riese Colon , CEO of the U.S. Center for SafeSport. Other programming will focus on how gravel cycling events have changed the view of dirt roads in small- and mid-sized destinations that have attracted record numbers of visitors; the Great Race auto festival’s embrace of multi-city events; the challenges in retaining and recruiting volunteers for destinations to organize sports events; and the evolving landscape of youth sports from a participation, athlete safety and technology perspective.

Olympian Keynotes

Along with the panelists during the TEAMS programming, a group of Olympians will share their personal journeys and experiences.  Brittany   Bowe , the 2022 Team USA flag bearer at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, will give a keynote address on October 26 about her journey in speedskating and the act of sportsmanship that allowed her teammate a spot on the roster that led to a gold medal — one of the celebrated moments surrounding the Games. And the emcees of SportsLink will be Olympic curlers  John   Shuster  and  Chris   Plys . Shuster led Team USA to gold at the 2018 Winter Games, the first American team to win gold in curling.

Recognizing Award Winners

In addition to education, TEAMS will include the annual  SportsTravel  Awards, which will be handed out during a special luncheon on October 26. The awards will honor the best events on the amateur, collegiate and professional level over the past 12 months, as well as the best new venue of the year and the best sports host city as voted on by  SportsTravel  readers. The National Congress of State Games as well as the USOPC and Compete Sports Diversity will also hand out their own awards during the luncheon.

Ten-Year Partnership Agreement with Visit Anaheim Will Bring the World’s Largest Gathering of Sports-Event Organizers to Southern California

Northstar Meetings Group today announced that the TEAMS ’19 and TEAMS ’24 Conference & Expo will be held in Anaheim, California. The announcement is the result of a 10-year partnership agreement with Visit Anaheim, which will increase Anaheim’s visibility in the sports-related group travel market served by TEAMS during the coming decade. Visit Anaheim will showcase key facets of the destination’s $6 billion investment in venues and attractions during TEAMS, which will be held November 11–14, 2019.

“We’re a city built on imagination, possibility and creativity,” said Jay Burress, president and CEO of Visit Anaheim. “That spirit is inspiring a new cast of uncommon characters and unleashing a fresh wave of sights, sounds, flavors and fun across our landscape that we’re excited for the sports-event industry to experience during TEAMS ’19 in Anaheim.”

Attendees at TEAMS ’19—including the gatekeepers to the 88 million room nights and $31 billion in direct spending generated by sports-related travel annually—will convene at the Anaheim Convention Center. Already the West Coast’s largest convention center, ACC opened an additional 200,000 square feet of meeting space last year and is regularly attracting multi-year commitments from event organizers.

“The TEAMS Conference & Expo is an event built on long-term partnerships,” said Timothy Schneider, founder of the TEAMS Conference and chairman of the Sports Division of Northstar Travel Group, which organizes the TEAMS Conference & Expo. “Visit Anaheim’s 10-year commitment to growing the sports-event industry and hosting TEAMS ’19 and TEAMS ’24 demonstrates why sports organizations should put Anaheim at the top of the list when selecting a destination for their events.”

The TEAMS Conference & Expo serves as the exclusive home of the U.S. Olympic Committee’s SportsLink and NGB Best Practices Seminars. The co-location of Olympic SportsLink with TEAMS helps assure the participation of chief executives and event directors from all 50 Summer and Winter Olympic sports governing bodies, 25 Paralympic sports and 38 multi-sport organizations. All told, these organizations represent nearly 90 million members and participants in the United States.

Other co-location partners of TEAMS include the National Congress of State Games and the Geneva-based Sport Integrity Global Alliance. Northstar also produces the EsportsTravel Summit and a Sports Betting Forum in conjunction with the TEAMS Conference & Expo.

Representatives of Visit Anaheim and Sports Anaheim will travel to TEAMS ’18, October 1–4, in Louisville to invite attendees to Anaheim for TEAMS ’19. Sports Anaheim is the division of Visit Anaheim that works to attract local, national and international sporting events to the destination. In addition to being the home of MLB’s Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim ® and the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks ® , Anaheim has established a reputation of excellence in hosting a variety of events including the USA Fencing North American Cup and the International Weightlifting Federation’s World Championships.

TEAMS Compete Web Graphic

Northstar Meetings Group and Compete Sports Diversity have renewed their agreement for a three-year term to host the members of Compete to attend the TEAMS Conference & Expo , both to conduct business specific to the group as well as for individual event organizers to meet with destinations, venues and suppliers interested in LGBTQ+ sports events. “We were excited to have the members of Compete Sports Diversity with us at TEAMS ’22. It brings me great joy to capitalize on our partnership to strategically combine their resources with our DEI education standards and vast community.”

The TEAMS Conference & Expo, organized by Northstar Meetings Group, is the world’s largest gathering of sports-event organizers and the destinations and venues interested in hosting their events. sports travel teams conference

The EsportsTravel Summit is the unique gathering place for travel-industry professionals who want to capitalize on the worldwide esports phenomenon.

How does the EsportsTravel Summit differ from other esports conferences?

While there are other esports business conferences, the EsportsTravel Summit is the only one that focuses entirely on the in-person events side of the industry. The summit attracts key stakeholders that you don’t find at other conferences — the decision-makers at esports organizations who are responsible for the site selection of venues and host cities for in-person esports events. At the summit, you can have one-on-one appointments with these decision-makers. In addition, we provide exclusive education on the key trends affecting in-person esports events and unrivaled networking opportunities to enhance your business development. For esports event organizers, the summit is the one event where you can make important connections with destinations, venues and suppliers that want to help you in the organization of your events.

How does the EsportsTravel Summit work?

At our marketplace, you can meet in pre-arranged appointments with up to 22 event organizers one-on-one to discuss their event needs. If you choose not to participate in our marketplace, you can still gain access to our world-class education and networking opportunities, including off-site tours, an opening party, a happy hour and a late-night lounge where you can have more casual conversations to ask the questions you have about the industry and make new connections.

Why should my market care about esports?

As esports and video-game competitions evolve, they do so with a generation that is growing up to be invested in different game titles and competitions — often with more affinity than traditional sports. Your community likely already has a thriving gaming community that you may not be connected with. And there are gaming communities elsewhere that are willing to travel — and spend money while they’re traveling — to see the best gamers compete at in-person events. Your local universities likely already field an esports team and are likely offering scholarships for those athletes to compete, and your local high schools and middle school are likely developing programs as well.

What is the economic impact of in-person esports events?

Esports events generate room nights, and increasingly so, although many communities are experiencing additional returns on investment not related specifically to room nights. Esports fans have been proven to spend considerable money while in destinations, from concessions at venues to off-site activities. Esports events also provide an opportunity for you to engage with the next generation of sports fans that are already in your community and surrounding communities.

What are esports event organizers looking for?

As the industry evolves and matures, the need for substantive conversations between event organizers, CVBs, sports commissions, venues and suppliers is paramount. Each side can help the other. Esports event organizers are looking for partners who can help enhance their events, work with them to secure venues and hotel room blocks, and suggest other activities in the community for their participants to experience. Esports represents a growing market, and a loyal one not unlike traditional sports. Organizers are looking for long-term relationships.

Our destination doesn’t have a venue large enough to host esports. Why should we pursue these events?

Your destination likely has many venues that can host in-person events. Like in traditional sports, there are professional events that do require large arenas. But the majority of esports events are staged in convention centers, conference centers, hotel ballrooms, theaters and other smaller venues that most destinations can accommodate. And esports event organizers are looking for help in siting their events.

Jayson Tatum has taken a major step forward as a primary defender and ball handler.

The NBA playoffs are set to begin Tuesday, with the play-in tournament featuring some of the league’s more interesting teams.

These matchups feature intriguing teams in the Lakers, Pelicans, Warriors and Kings in the Western Conference, while the Sixers and Heat clash in the Eastern Conference.

However, none of these teams are likely to win the title, despite the Heat making the NBA Finals as a play-in No. 8 seed last season.

The Eastern Conference is much stronger than last year, with the Boston Celtics completely reloaded to new heights this year.

Meanwhile, the Jalen Brunson-led Knicks added OG Anunoby, Donte DiVincenzo and more to a stronger roster than the one the Heat saw last season, albeit one without an injured Julius Randle.

NBA Finals odds

Nba finals prediction.

It’s all about the Boston Celtics winning the Finals these days, with wild +180 odds before they even start Round One, where they could easily face the Miami Heat, who eliminated them last year.

It’s incredibly difficult to argue against the Celtics, who, in theory, would have a first-round matchup against the Heat/76ers, and the Cavaliers/Magic winner in the No. 4 vs. No. 5 series.

With relative ease, you can look at that side of the bracket and pencil the Celtics into the Eastern Conference Finals.

sports travel teams conference

The other side of that bracket is brutal, with the Knicks, Bucks and Sixers/Heat setting up a painful go-around.

Whoever emerges from that slog will be beaten and battered heading into a possible showdown with the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.

We’re making a lot of projections here, but should the Celtics indeed avoid Philadelphia in the first round, they are looking at a much stronger case at covering these wild +180 odds.

The Celtics have the lowest odds of winning the NBA Finals entering the playoffs since the 2019 Golden State Warriors (-178), according to SportsOddsHistory.com.

Kristaps Porzingis is the secret weapon of the Celtics should he remain healthy.

Injuries are always going to play a factor in the NBA playoffs, but Boston has tons of depth, more than any other team.

If you’re looking at betting who will win the finals, you’re on Boston +180 with a hedge spot worth snagging should they face the dreaded matchup with the Denver Nuggets.

Arizona soccer releases first Big 12 schedule

Arizona soccer has its first Big 12 Conference schedule. It’s a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to competition level and travel.

The biggest surprises are the teams Arizona will not play. The Wildcats do not face Colorado for the first time since the Buffaloes joined the Pac-12 in 2011. The program will not play last year’s Big 12 regular season champion Texas Tech, which is one of the programs geographically closest to Tucson, or Iowa State. The Wildcats have had the two Big 12 programs on their nonconference schedule fairly regularly in recent years. They also will not play Oklahoma State this year.

The Big 12 makes up for the misses by holding a conference tournament. The tournament will be held in the Kansas City Current’s new facility, CPKC Stadium. In 2024, the tourney runs from Oct. 30 through Nov. 9.

The Wildcats will spend the first two weeks of league play on the road. Their Big 12 debut comes against fellow Pac-12 vagabond Utah on Thursday, Sept. 12. It will be Arizona’s third straight year playing in Salt Lake City. The Pac-12 has had the head-to-head matchup in Utah for the past two seasons.

Arizona goes to Texas in the second week. It will play at Baylor on Thursday, Sept. 19 before going to Fort Worth to face TCU on Sunday, Sept. 22. The Horned Frogs finished third during the regular season last year at 6-2-2 but only had a 10-6-3 record overall. The Bears were eight in the regular season with a 4-4-2 record. They finished 9-7-3 overall.

That brings the Wildcats home at last. They will have their Big 12 home opener against Cincinnati on Thursday, Sept. 26. The Bearcats were ninth in the league last year with a 2-3-5 conference record to go with their 4-8-7 overall record.

West Virginia arrives in Tucson for the Sunday, Sept. 29 match. The Mountaineers finished fifth in the Big 12 last season. They were 5-3-2 in league play and 7-8-4 overall.

Arizona plays a third straight home game when BYU comes to town on Friday, Oct. 4. Although they finished second in the regular season and at the conference tournament, the Cougars were the best team in the league last year. They had a 7-0-3 Big 12 record and a 20-3-3 overall record. They finished the year ranked No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches poll, five spots ahead of regular season champs Texas Tech.

Arizona then leaves town for a two-state doozy of a road trip. The Wildcats play UCF in Orlando on Thursday, Oct. 10. They then have to fly to Houston to face the Cougars on Sunday, Oct. 13. The saving grace of the trip is that both cities have major airports. Multiple airlines have nonstop flights between the two cities every day.

The Knights finished in the top half of the league last season. They were sixth with a 5-4-1 Big 12 record. Overall, they were 10-7-1.

The other Cougars had more difficulty with the step up to a major conference. They finished 12th of the 14 teams that constituted the Big 12 last season. They had a 2-7-1 conference record and an 8-8-2 overall record.

The Wildcats wind up their home schedule by hosting Kansas on Thursday, Oct. 17 and Kansas State on Sunday, Oct. 20. The two teams finished in the cellar of the Big 12 last year. The Jayhawks were 1-7-2 to finish 13th while the Wildcats were 1-8-1 to finish last. KU was 4-8-6 overall and KSU was 3-12-3.

The final game of the regular season will be at ASU on Friday, Oct. 25.

Sport Industry Conference brings industry leaders together to talk sustainability, philanthropy, and the business of sports

Tyler Epp, president of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix, shares a laugh with Tywan Martin, associate professor in the School of Education and Human Development, during the Global Sport Industry Conference.

By Amy Ellis 04-15-2024

When Tyler Epp, president of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix, tells you success in sports is all about relationships, it’s more than a generic bit of career advice.

Epp, whose wide-ranging career includes stints with Major League Baseball, the National Football League, NASCAR, and now Formula One racing, has an impressive story to back it up.

When he was just starting out as an intern at a Kansas City racetrack, making $6.50 an hour, he was assigned to escort legendary quarterback Joe Montana, who was a partner in the Chip Ganassi racing team, around the track.

That day, Epp made what he thought was a casual connection with one of the team officials—"just two guys talking at the racetrack," he said.

That conversation would affect his life and career for years to come, Epp told a rapt audience of sport administration students, faculty, and sport industry officials at the ninth annual Global Sport Industry Conference , held at the Donna E. Shalala Student Center.

"I gave him my business card—I’d literally made it myself—and within six weeks, I was interviewing, and then shortly after that, I was working for him," Epp said. "That one person has had a greater impact on my career than anyone else, including my decision to leave the NFL a few years ago and come down here to Miami."

Epp regaled students with stories of how he navigated his career, including candid observations about keeping a fan base engaged—"the #1 challenge of any sports organization"—and how globalization has dramatically changed the world of sports.

"The world has shrunk and it’s easier to get to places," he said. "For us, it’s no longer just about cars. It’s about the experience you are providing. It’s the food, the beverages, the art, the entire cultural event."

Epp stressed that, regardless of the sport, the fundamentals of sport management do not change. He urged students to be open to seizing opportunities as they come, rather than holding out for what they think will be a "dream job" in a specific sport.

"These are all revenue-driven sports organizations," he explained. "What I learned in NASCAR can apply with the Kansas City Chiefs. Always be willing to try something new. My current job found me. There are many paths to find your way in this business."

Harrison Blech, who is pursuing a master’s in sport administration through UOnline , said he found that message about different career paths particularly inspiring.

"That was most impactful for me, the idea that there is no correct path in the sports industry," said Blech. "Many of the panelists said their careers took multiple unexpected twists and turns that led them to the positions they are in today."

A similar message emerged during the Green Future Forum, a panel on sustainability that featured leaders from the Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat, and Florida Panthers.

Teddy Lhoutellier, sustainability director for the University, said diverse paths is one of the great things about a career in sustainability.

"It’s a big umbrella and there are a lot of different components underneath it," he said. "There is tremendous opportunity. You are working toward a higher purpose. It can be hard to define but it also keeps the job fun and rewarding."

Cynthia Miller, director of health, safety, and environment for the Miami Dolphins, said she sees her position as a "platform to change the world."

She noted that the 37-year-old Hard Rock Stadium, where the Dolphins and Miami Hurricanes play, had recently received its LEED Gold certification for sustainability, a recognition that is often difficult for older facilities to obtain.

"It’s about changing the culture, from top leadership to every staff member," she said. "Hard Rock is now a plastic-free facility, and our goal is to be as close to carbon zero as we can be. To send nothing to the landfill that we shouldn’t be. We are very proud of that."

For the Florida Panthers, conducting a sustainability impact assessment throughout the organization was a critical first step, said Michael Prairie, director of sustainability and business optimization.

"It’s given us a framework to continue moving forward," said Prairie, who noted that he is the first to hold his position in the organization. "We’ve made tremendous strides in a short amount of time, but we know we’ve got to get better across the board."

Blech, who said he hopes to work in venue management one day, said it was exciting to hear what local sports teams are doing for the environment.

"I have a passion for environmental sustainability, so it was inspiring hearing how some of South Florida's most prominent sports venues are positioning themselves for a more sustainable future," he said. "My favorite aspect was hearing about the Florida Panthers’ initiative to create fully circular and reusable aluminum cups for their fans."

Though each year, the topics and panelists are different, the conference is an invaluable experience for her sport administration students, both online and on campus, said professor Windy Dees, graduate program director in sport administration.

"The event brings in top industry professionals and executives from around the world of sports," she said. "Both our on-campus and UOnline students get an incredible opportunity to learn from the best in the business about trends and best practices in sport management. The networking opportunities are invaluable."

For UOnline student Blech, attending the conference on campus was a game-changer.

"I met some of my professors face to face for the first time," said Blech, who lives in Fort Lauderdale. "I was able to establish real connections, which will help me grow my network in the sports industry for the future."

Professor Erin McNary has led the conference for seven years and said comments from students like "career changing" and "left feeling inspired" let her know how valuable the event has become. She said the event would not be possible without the planning committee made up of sport administration students.

"I enjoy coordinating this event because it brings together members of our sport administration community, such as industry professionals, UM athletic directors, professors, alumni, staff, students, and community members," she said. "We all had similar end goals of educating or learning about the "evolution and growth of the sport industry," this year's conference theme, discussing best practices to be successful, and creating long lasting personal and professional relationships."

New commissioner wants American Athletic Conference to take ‘big swings’

  • Associated Press

New American Athletic Conference Commissioner Tim Pernetti said Thursday that College Football Playoff expansion is good for the sport and he believes there is room for more growth.

Pernetti, the former Rutgers athletic director and IMG executive, officially takes over for the retiring Mike Aresco in June.

In his first news conferences — both in-person and on a video conference — since being hired last week, the 53-year-old Pernetti said he wants the conference to take “big swings” and is not interested in chasing the status of certain labels that are now more nebulous than ever in college sports.

Pernetti said he won’t be using terms like Power Five or Group of Five, which became the common way to delineate the 10 major college football conferences during the College Football Playoff’s first decade.

“When I look at college football, to me college football is college football. Are there different levels of competition and levels of play? Of course there are,” he said. “Is there a financial disparity? We know that.

“We don’t control a lot of that stuff but what I will try to focus on with the staff and the schools is what do we control? What is the stomach for taking some big swings.”

The 10 Bowl Subdivision conference commissioners, along with Notre Dame’s athletic director, make up the College Football Playoff’s board of managers.

The American has been the strongest of non-power conferences during the CFP’s first 10 seasons as a four-team event. Seven times the AAC has produced the highest ranked Group of Five champion in the playoff rankings at the end of the season and Cincinnati in 2021 became the only non-Power conference team to play in the semifinals.

The CFP is expanding to 12 teams this season and could grow to 14 as soon as 2026.

“I actually think the evolution of the postseason in college football is encouraging because there’s more access and there’s more slots,” Pernetti said. “But there’s 134 institutions playing (FBS) football, and as the CFP continues to grow and evolve, I think there’s room for more.”

Pernetti said he’s not sure what the right number of teams is for the CFP, but believes more postseason opportunities could be added to enhance or complement the current playoff and bowl system.

“Our coaches need to be able to look kids in the eye and explain to them that based on certain results we can compete for a national championship,” Pernetti said.

Pernetti said he will attend a board of managers meeting later this month with Aresco. He said the CFP has the “ability to move the entire industry” of college sports.

“So I think everybody in that room tearing down the walls and having transparent conversations (has) never been more important,” Pernetti said.

Conference realignment stripped the American of three of its power programs when Cincinnati, UCF and Houston moved to the Big 12 last year. The American added six schools in response: North Texas, Rice, Charlotte, UAB, UTSA and FAU.

SMU is leaving for the ACC this summer and Army is set to join the AAC as a football-only member similar to rival Navy.

Pernetti said he’s not naive to think realignment will ever end.

“But I do think there’s a window ahead of us to do some things differently and quite frankly, resource this conference in a way where members don’t need to leave,” he said.

Pernetti also talked about the possibility of the conference being involved in compensating athletes for name, image and likeness as a way to help retain top talent and looking into non-traditional forms of revenue generation such as private equity.

“Private equity has been heavily investing in sports for an extended period of time already. And it’s like circling the neighborhood in college sports, but it hasn’t parked its car in anyone’s driveway yet,” Pernetti said. “I think that’s inevitable.”
