DP World tour

Twenty-eight-year-old Swede Jesper Svensson won his maiden DP World Tour title in Singapore by matching the course record and prevailing in a three-hole-playoff.

He shot a 9-under 63 at Laguna National Golf Resort Club to climb the leaderboard to 17-under, where Kiradech Aphibarnrat also finished after 72 holes.

Svensson birdied the 17th and 18th holes to grab the clubhouse lead, while Aphibarnrat made an eagle later to tie.

Then, in the playoff, both birdied the first playoff hole—the par-5 18th—and then exchanged a pair of pars the second time around.

The third time was the charm for Svensson, a DP World Tour rookie. Aphibarnrat air-mailed his third shot into the 18th and thus settled for bogey while the Swede two-putted for par and the victory.

“It’s been a long journey,” Svensson said after the win per the DP World Tour.

Jesper Svensson, DP World Tour, Porsche Singapore Classic

“To win on my first season out here, I couldn’t have dreamt of it. It’s always been a dream to be a winner on the DP World Tour and to achieve it feels amazing.”

The Swede turned professional in the summer of 2019 and joined the Nordic Golf League, two levels below the DP World Tour in European professional golf. After winning the season finale in 2020, he was promoted to the Challenge Tour, the DP World Tour’s equivalent of the Korn Ferry Tour .

He continued to rise up the rankings, finishing 36th at the end of the 2021 Challenge Tour season, which afforded him some playing opportunities on the DP World Tour the following year.

But his first win on the Challenge Tour did not come until May 2023, when he finished one stroke ahead of Branden Stone at the B-NL Challenge Trophy in Holland.

That, coupled with two runner-up finishes late in the year, helped Svensson finish 5th in the Challenge Tour rankings, elevating him to the DP World Tour for 2024. He has since finished runner-up twice, at the Investec South African Open in December and, most recently, at the Bahrain Championship.

“Combined with Challenge Tour last year and the beginning of this season, I’ve had five second-place spots in the last year,” Svensson added.

Jesper Svensson, DP World Tour, Porsche Singapore Classic

“I really wanted to come out on top here.”

Svensson began his final round five shots off the lead, but quickly made up ground with birdies at the 1st and 2nd. He followed those up with an eagle at the par-5 3rd. Two more birdies at the 6th and 8th holes ensued, the latter being a chip-in.

He then dropped two shots at the 9th and 10th holes, bringing him back to 11-under for the championship.

Yet, Svensson bounced back with birdies on the 12th and 13th, which gave him a one-shot lead.

A shot worthy of any champion ⭐️ #PorscheSingaporeClassic pic.twitter.com/apNudYeFkl — DP World Tour (@DPWorldTour) March 24, 2024

Then, he hit the shot of the day at the par-5 14th, reaching the green in two as his ball settled eight feet away from the pin. He then poured it in for eagle, and suddenly, Svensson held a three-shot lead.

“On 14, we were thinking about laying up,” Svensson said.

“We both said, ‘No, we’re not finishing second again,’ and it was the best shot of the week.”

The move paid off, as Svensson bogeyed the 15th but finished birdie-birdie to shoot 63. But he needed extra holes to get that first victory, and luckily for him, he prevailed.

Other players in contention included Matthieu Pavon , who finished fifth, and Paul Casey of LIV Golf , who finished solo sixth. Shane Lowry also played, tying for 29th.

PGA TOUR Internships

The PGA TOUR is actively seeking new talent who want to grow a career on the business side of golf. And you don’t even have to play golf!

Your journey begins here in beautiful Northeast Florida and on the campus of our state-of-art headquarters. Located in Ponte Vedra Beach, but recruited from all over the country, the TOUR’s renown Internship Program – now in its 26th year – is the ideal opportunity to explore the golf business: communication, technology, finance, media entertainment, data analytics, marketing and more. Join a select few who will participate in this 8-week program which provides development opportunity to currently enrolled students.

The TOUR’s internship program is a critical talent pipeline for the organization. Our continued investment ensures a world-class experience for our summer interns who work on meaningful projects, are exposed to multiple teams and are a major part of our community.

While a love of the game is certainly appreciated, knowing how to play is not a prerequisite for the internship. Your summer experience will be enhanced by activities and projects that will allow you to gain a full picture of how the PGA TOUR and other golf organizations work together to support our players, charities and events both domestic and international.

For interns who successfully complete the summer internship, there may be opportunities for full-time virtual fall internships.

Eligibility: As of May 2023, all applicants must be enrolled in a graduate degree program or be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program and be a rising junior or senior.

Note: All interns must be legally permitted to work in the United States. International students must be currently enrolled at a U.S. college or university and obtain all visas and employment authorizations prior to the start of the internship. We strongly encourage these students to begin this process early as it may require several months to complete. Contact the International Student Advisor at your university for specific information and requirements.

The 2023 PGA TOUR Summer Internship Program application window will open in October 2022 and close on January 31, 2023 at 11:59 PM.

The dates of 2023 PGA TOUR Internship Program are June 5 – July 28, 2023.

Hero Indian Open 2024: Heartbreak For Rasmus Hojgaard as Shocking WD Follows ‘Nightmare’ Start

A fter becoming the top-ranked face in the Hero Indian Open, Rasmus Hojgaard discreetly exited the DLF Golf Course. The twin brother of Nicolai Hojgaard entered the Indian Peninsula ranked 78th, the highest for the field, and was playing the event after his brother teed up last year.

Flying in, Hojgaard even asked his brother about the DLF Golf Course to better prepare for the event. And at first, it seemed that the 4-time DP World Tour winner was indeed ready for a huge showdown. But was he actually prepared to face the nightmare that DLF GC has shown him?

Rasmus Hojgaard withdraws without citing a reason

Landing in Delhi, India, Rasmus Hojgaard was having the time of his life at the Hero Indian Open. The youngest Dane to win on the European Tour was excited to debut at the DLF Golf Course and display his prowess. However, the course has proved to be a challenge for the Dane, and not just for him but for most o nthe field.

Round one started on Thursday, March 28th, and Hojgaard opened with five par putts till he reached the par-4 sixth hole. There, the 23-year-old made his first double bogey of the round, but disaster was to follow a hole later. After making a par on the next hole, Hojgaard reached the par-5 6th hole. Inarguably, one of the most difficult holes and a nightmare for pros playing at the DLF Golf Course.

The DP World Tour tweeted that on the 8th hole, 14 double bogeys or worse were scored. Among those, Hojgaard was also the pro who struggled at the par-5. He shot a quadruple bogey as his first swing met with a water hazard. After taking a two-stroke penalty, he hit another from the bunker and the rough, before finally making the putt four strokes over the par-5. Overall, Hojgaard finished 7 over 79 and before round two starts, withdrew from the Hero Indian Open.

The withdrawal comes as shocking but could be linked to his disappointing performance as he was the favorite at the Indian Open and was predicated by many to lead the field but he stood tied at 136. There might be several reasons that pushed Rasmus Hojgaard to opt out of the event but could it be related to not breaking his record?

Did Hojgaard withdraw to safeguard his streak?

At the Hero Indian Open, the Dane was excited to experience the new course in Delhi. However, the way Hojgaard’s first round ended, it could have been predicted that he would miss the 36-hole cut that would be observed after the Friday rounds as he was well outside the top 65 and ties.

So, though Hojgaard has not revealed the reason for his exit, it could also be due to an undisclosed health issue. But notably, the 23-year-old has not missed a single cut since the 2023 BMW PGA Championship in September and this has been his longest streak of cuts made (13 events) since he debuted in 2019.

Alternatively, Rasmus Hojgaard might have been disappointed with his underwhelming performance and didn’t want to continue, which would have broken his momentum. Regardless of the reasons, the Dane will not be seen at the DLF GC going further.

Hero Indian Open - Day two digest

Everything you need to know from day two in New Delhi.

Keita Nakajima led the way, Espen Kofstad produced a 19-shot swing, Veer Ahlawat was feeling right at home and Shubhankar Sharma was left in a nightmare position on day two of the Hero Indian Open .

Here is everything you need to know from Friday in New Delhi.

Nakajima on top

Nakajima fired a second consecutive 65 to open up a two-shot lead before play was suspended due to storms. The Japanese held a six-shot advantage after 11 holes in round two but was reeled in by Frenchman Romain Langasque before he finished birdie-eagle to once again give himself some breathing space at 14 under. Langasque's 66 left him a shot clear of Italian Matteo Manassero and two ahead of fellow Frenchman Jeong weon Ko. Dutchman Joost Luiten was at ten under playing the 16th when the hooter sounded at 4.57pm at DLF Golf & Country Club and will be one of 46 players returning to complete their rounds at 7.30am local time on Saturday.

Comeback kid Kofstad shatters course record

Kofstad bettered his first-round score by an incredible 19 shots as he smashed the DLF G&CC course record. The Norwegian had already booked his flights home after carding an opening 81 over the Gary Player-designed layout, which is considered to be one of the very toughest on the DP World Tour. But after starting his second round with three birdies he barely looked back, carding a single bogey and six more birdies to get to eight under on the day after 15 holes. He needed another gain to break Sharma's course record of 64 but went one better, eagling the eighth after a stroke of good fortune to card a 62 that is also his lowest round on Tour by two shots. "Today was just unbelievable," he said. "Everything came off and I've holed so many putts, I have no idea how many feet I've holed but it's been quite the day. I changed my flights last night to go home tomorrow. So I'm going to have to change them again."

Ahlawat enjoying home comforts

Ahlawat was leading the home charge after a 66 moved him just five shots off the lead heading into the weekend. The 28-year-old plays most of his golf at DLF G&CC and he fired an ominous warning to his rivals as he looks for a first DP World Tour win. "This is my home course and it helps for sure," he said. "I feel mentally I'm much stronger, like I'm not afraid to go deep on this course. So I know if I start hitting the ball close to the flag and start holing a few putts, I can go low. I'm not scared to do that."

It takes two

Holing your second for an eagle is a rare feat but it was all the rage on Friday. First it was Manassero on the 17th, with the Italian saying: "I used the bank on the right, it came out perfect. I knew it went in from the reaction of the guys at the back of the green, it was a special one.” And later in the day, Ko got in on the act when he holed his second shot at the first. “It’s the first time I’ve had two days in a row where I’ve wedged in," he said. "I had a sand wedge in. We saw it bounce and couldn’t see it. The others were laughing saying ‘it must be in the hole’ and it was actually in the hole. That was a great feeling.”

Getting out of jail

A bunker shot to eight feet may not sound like anything special for a professional. But it is when it's from here.

A plugged lie, in a bunker, over another bunker, to a near pin. How are you playing this shot? 🫣 #HIO24 pic.twitter.com/5DRbkS6gmv — DP World Tour (@DPWorldTour) March 29, 2024

No problem for Sharma . Take a bow.

Pretty good going, @shubhankargolf 👏 #HIO24 pic.twitter.com/j1MSVTOZci — DP World Tour (@DPWorldTour) March 29, 2024
