LOS ANGELES (August 11, 2022) — The Music Center today announced that Grammy® and Latin GRAMMY® winning band Ozomatli will headline the performing arts organization’s first annual free concert, as part of the Live at The Music Center series, on Saturday, September 3, at 8:00 p.m., on Jerry Moss Plaza. The concert, which will take place over Labor Day weekend, is made possible by a major gift from Tina and Jerry Moss & the Moss Foundation, which calls, in part, for The Music Center to develop an annual celebration of music on Jerry Moss Plaza each summer.

The special evening will begin with a 40-minute A/V set by renowned Stones Throw label head L.A.-based Peanut Butter Wolf. Getting his initial start spinning and playing Hip-Hop beats, Peanut Butter Wolf developed the careers of Madlib, J Dilla, Quasimoto, Madvillain, Dam-Funk, Mayer Hawthorne, KNX, Mild High Club, MNDSGN and Anderson Paak.

“We are thrilled to have Ozomatli perform a free concert on Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center for all Angelenos to enjoy—what a fantastic way to kick off Live at the Music Center with one of L.A.’s homegrown bands!” said Rachel S. Moore, president and CEO of The Music Center. “We have been able to provide this free event thanks to a major gift from Tina and Jerry Moss & the Moss Foundation. Their deep love and appreciation for music will reverberate in the many free and low-cost events we produce year-round. So, mark your calendars for September 3 and get ready to rock the night away under the stars!”

Ozomatli's music is as multifaceted as its members and influences. Meeting as young political activists and musicians, the original band formed in Los Angeles in 1995 to play a notorious urban-Latino-and-beyond collision of Hip Hop and Salsa, Dancehall and Cumbia, Samba and Funk, Merengue and Comparsa, East L.A. R&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga—all while following a key mantra: Ozomatli will take you around the world by taking you around Los Angeles. Their music has been recognized and celebrated widely with three Grammy® Awards (for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album and Best Alternative Music Album, among others), and the City of Los Angeles has declared April 23 as “Ozomatli Day” in recognition of the band’s sizable contribution for more than 25 years to the city’s cultural life. The band, which is comprised of six members (Wil-Dog Abers, Ulises Bella, Raul Pacheco, Justin Poree, Asdru Sierra, and Jiro Yamaguchi), recently released a new album called Marching On on Blue Élan Records.

“Ozomatli is an award-winning group which formed right here in Los Angeles so their upcoming concert over Labor Day weekend will be like performing in their own backyard,” said TMC Arts Executive Vice President Josephine Ramirez. “Ozomatli’s ability to influence and create change through their music perfectly aligns with The Music Center’s vision to provide arts experiences that build healthier, more compassionate and more equitable places to live. Join us on September 3 for an energizing performance—it is the perfect way to celebrate the last days of summer and our L.A. community’s strength.”

In October 2020, Jerry and Tina Moss provided The Music Center with $25 million, the largest single contribution for programming in the organization’s history. The monies are designed to support The Music Center’s work to increase the breadth and depth of its public presentations with a particular focus on quality, affordable arts programming that is relevant to and reflective of Los Angeles’ diverse communities. This free summer concert—part of the Live at The Music Center series—is open to all and will be held annually outdoors on Jerry Moss Plaza. The Music Center continues to embrace important safety practices to protect guests, artists and staff. Guests are encouraged to wear face coverings while on its campus and at Jerry Moss Plaza. No proof of vaccination or testing is required for Live at The Music Center. Beverages will be available for sale on-site. No outside food, beverages, alcohol or seats allowed. Self-parking will be available in The Music Center Main Garage (accessible via the Grand Avenue entrance) and the Walt Disney Concert Hall Garage. Valet parking is not available. In accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health directives, The Music Center worked behind-the-scenes during the pandemic to prepare for the return of live performances in its venues, both indoors and outdoors, by implementing new measures and procedures. The Music Center became the first performing arts organization in the nation to earn the UL Verified Healthy Buildings Mark for Indoor Air and Water Quality. The Music Center underwent an extensive assessment process to earn the verification, demonstrating that each of its four venues, Grand Park’s administrative office and The Music Center Annex, has excellent quality for indoor air and water. Additionally, The Music Center enhanced all cleaning procedures, installed hand sanitizer dispensers in all public spaces and created a contact-free experience in its public restrooms as well as

instituted electronic ticketing and a digital program book, among other measures. Live at The Music Center is generously supported by Tina and Jerry Moss/Moss Foundation. *Programs, artists and safety protocols subject to change. Photos available here. Situated on the ancestral and sacred land of the Tongva and many other indigenous groups who call these grounds home, The Music Center acknowledges and honors with gratitude the land itself and the First People who have been its steward throughout the generations. About The Music Center The Music Center convenes artists, communities and ideas with the goal of deepening the cultural lives of every resident in Los Angeles County. The $70 million non-profit performing arts organization has two divisions: TMC Arts and TMC Ops. TMC Arts, The Music Center’s programming engine, provides year-round programming inside The Music Center’s four theatres, on Jerry Moss Plaza, outside at Grand Park—a 12-acre adjacent green space—in schools and other locations all over Los Angeles County and on a digital platform called The Music Center Offstage. TMC Arts presents world-class dance with Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center, free and low-cost public concerts and events, as well as live and digital K–12 arts education programs, workshops, performances, interactive experiences and special events. TMC Ops manages the theatres, the Plaza and Grand Park, which comprise $2 billion in county assets, on behalf of the County of Los Angeles. The Music Center is also home to four renowned resident companies—Center Theatre Group, Los Angeles Master Chorale, LA Opera and LA Phil. For more information, visit musiccenter.org. The Music Center's Walt Disney Concert Hall Reopens To The Public

Venue welcomes summer visitors with revamped free self-guided audio tour.

pixeltracker

The Music Center today announced the reopening of the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall and its beautiful outdoor spaces to the public, and the resumption of free self-guided audio tours that provide visitors with the history and behind-the-scenes anecdotes surrounding the building's construction. The tour uses updated technology to make it easier for Angelenos and guests to learn about the Concert Hall's history from conception to completion.

Narrated by Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor John Lithgow , the tour offers an in-depth and comprehensive exploration of the Concert Hall and provides insight from visionary architect Frank Gehry and other key contributors, including Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen; acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota; daughter of principal donor Lillian Disney, Diane Disney Miller; and landscape designer Melinda Taylor. Visitors can use personal smartphones or Podcatchers provided onsite to access fascinating facts about the building's interior, gardens and the creative processes and technology involved in the Concert Hall's creation.

"As The Music Center slowly reopens its doors to the community and tourists alike, we are very pleased to offer an updated audio tour with new, more inclusive options for people to learn about the rich history of one of Los Angeles' most iconic buildings and to get an insider's perspective on the reasoning and rationale behind the building's design and ground-breaking architecture," said Rachel S. Moore, president and CEO of The Music Center.

The 60-minute audio tour starts in the Grand Lobby where visitors learn about Frank Gehry 's architectural choices of interior wooden "tree trunks" and exterior curved stainless steel, as well as a Lillian Disney-inspired carpet pattern in the upper-level lobbies. Some of the most notable spaces of Walt Disney Concert Hall that visitors can explore and learn about in more detail include BP Hall, the pre-concert program space designed for smaller programs and events; the Ira Gershwin Gallery, a collection display from The Library of Congress that rotates every six months; and the garden skylight, Walt Disney Concert Hall's largest skylight showing the contrast of the finished surfaces and the raw structural elements. As audiences venture into The Blue Ribbon Garden, they learn exactly how it was constructed 35 feet above the ground and explore the nearly one-acre community garden and its vast amount of plants. Audiences have access to all these spaces and can also learn about some of the more minute details that make Walt Disney Concert Hall unique.

Safety remains The Music Center's top priority. For the safety of the community and Music Center staff, Music Center ushers and designated tour staff at Walt Disney Concert Hall continue to wear face coverings during the hours of tour operation. Additionally, in accordance with L.A. County guidance, face coverings are required indoors and recommended outdoors for those who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The Music Center's four theatres, including Walt Disney Concert Hall, recently received the UL Verified Healthy Buildings Mark for Indoor Air Quality, validating The Music Center's commitment to the safety of its staff, artists and visitors. Visit musiccenter.org/safety for more information about The Music Center's safety and security measures.

The Music Center's Walt Disney Concert Hall guided tours and Music Center Symphonians full campus tours are temporarily unavailable and will resume at a later date. For more information about tours at The Music Center's Walt Disney Concert Hall, visit musiccenter.org/visit/Exploring-the-Center/ .

Moscow theatres

Moscow has always been and still remains the city of theatres. This magnificent capital attracts theatregoers from all over the world. Here are the theatres we like and truly recommend you to visit.

Bolshoi Theatre

The Bolshoi Theatre

The Bolshoi Theatre

On 28 March 1776, Catherine II granted the prosecutor, Prince Pyotr Urusov, the privilege of maintaining theatre performances of all kinds, including masquerades, balls and other forms of entertainment. And that is where Moscow’s Bolshoi ( Big ) Theatre starts its history. The building of the Bolshoi Theatre, one of Moscow’s symbols, was opened on 20 October 1856, on Tsar Alexander II’s coronation day.

The Bolshoi Theatre is a symbol of Russia for all time. It was awarded this honor due to the major contribution it made to the history of the Russian performing arts. This history is on-going and today Bolshoi Theatre artists continue to contribute to it many bright pages.

Visit the theatre to watch the magnificent Russian operas and ballets. Make sure you are going to see the performance on Historic Stage.

Maly Theatre

The Maly Theatre

One of the oldest Moscow theatres – the Maly (Small) Theatre – is situated on Teatralnaya Ploschad (Theatre Square) neighboring the famous Bolshoi (Big) Theatre. The history of the theatre dates back to 1756 when the theatre company was founded by Catherine the Great’s will. During the 19th Century the theatre has become a favorite stage for some of the Russian most noted playwrights, in particular Ostrovsky who premiered 40 of his 52 plays here.

If you want to enjoy classical Russian theatre, see plays written by Chekhov, Pushkin, Ostrovsky and Gogol the Maly is probably one of the best choices. The theatre follows Russian drama tradition and makes classical productions. So with a little prior knowledge of the general plot of the play will be able to follow the action quite well without the help of subtitles.

Moscow Art Theatre

The Moscow Art Theatre (MKhAT)

The theatre was established by K. S. Stanislavsky and V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko in 1898 under the name Moscow Art Theatre (MKhAT). This is the first theatre in Russia, who practiced the real reform and together with young actors created modern repertoire. Nevertheless, in today’s Theatre classic world literature is staged as well as the modern patriotic literature. It is loved by Muscovites and the capitals guests for traditions, wonderful cast and bold experiments.

The debut production was Victor Rozov’s play «Forever Alive».

Nowadays it is one of the most popular Moscow theatres, with interesting premiers and wide basic repertoire, involving masters of Moscow stage and talented beginning actors.

Theatre of Nations

The fascinating building in pseudo-Russian style has been taken by theaters from 1885. Nowadays, Theatre of Nations, a unique structure that has no analogues in national theatre, is located there. Thus, it introduces the Russian audiences to outstanding examples of European theater. The Theatre of Nations holds a variety of theatre programs, organizes national and international festivals, presents the best Russian and foreign productions of all genres and trends and produces its own performances. Lack of a constant troupe allows keeping star cast and genre flexibility — from drama and comedy to post-drama and ballet.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard

I saw these guys at the Subterranean in Chicago-- what an insane show. They electrified the crowd with non stop moshing, shoving, and stage diving, it was absolute madness. By the end of the gig I was utterly soaked with other peoples beer (theres always someone with a sloshing cup in a pit; why? just drink it!) and dripping with sweat. this show was epic, if you ever have the opportunity to see these guys you have to seize it-- they put on one hell of a show.

Tyler, The Creator

I have been a fan of Tyler for a long time, as well as the whole group of OFWGKTA, and seeing him live was something I had on my bucket list. I went in with high expectations for his show, already knowing of how much energy and enthusiasm he puts into his live performances. What I got at The Forum went above and beyond anything I could have hoped for. The crowd was amazing, knowing every song and shouting and yelling along with unrivaled amounts of energy. Tyler was just as, or even more, energetic and knew how to work the crowd perfectly by interaction, be it between moments talking about random things or talking about his music and singing. I was blown away by the fact that at least twice he called to stop the song just to start it again because he loved how into it the crowd was and wanted to see it again. Of course we, the crowd, loved it and drained our lungs out with every lyric. I've seen the Arctic Monkeys, Sleigh Bells, Banks, Pendulum, Wolf Alice and others and can honestly say Tyler was the best overall. Everyone exited the venue with shirts soaked in sweat and with cracking voices, with grins on their face from having experienced something they'd never forget. If you like Tyler, or by extension OFWGKTA, you have to see him live if you get the opportunity, you can never anticipate how godly his live performances will be. I will definitely be waiting for his next visit to see him again.

Maggie Rogers

I'm so glad I got to see her in a small venue; what a magical and powerful experience. This girl radiates happiness and joy and on top of all of that, she sounds great live! There was confetti, a disco ball, Neil Young, and lots of dancing. I don't think it would have had the same effect in a large or open space, definitely jump on any chance you have to see her before she really blows up! So much love!

Moses Sumney

Moses was amazing. Very enigmatic but still approachable, and he had a lot of fun with the crowd. The performance was incredible, his voice is truly something to behold. I've listened to "Worth It" a million times but still got chills when he hit the high note. Would highly recommend seeing Moses live, especially before he gets really famous and expensive to see.

Absolutely the best concert I was ever at, honestly I don't think any other artist could top this. She had such an incredible presence on stage, every eye was on her and her wonderful team. Dua and her dancers moved gracefully and fluidly, with bursts of power and energy. Her vocals were insanely beautiful, every word was sung with such passion and love. Her grand finale of IDGAF and New Rules was simply amazing, with breathtaking choreography and stunning visuals behind her. The band sounded great and the backup vocalists and dancers were on point for every minute. Without a doubt in my mind it was the very best live performance I have ever seen, and I don't think anything in the future will ever compare to it. Dua Lipa, Olympia Theatre, Dublin. Monday 9th April 2018.

Ethereal, hopeful, humble, powerful... just absolute ART. The show was focused on everyone, a celebration of culture, love, identities, and struggle. I love that she made it more about the group on stage as a whole than just her- Tons of stage presence nonetheless. Beautiful band, beautiful backup singers. The lighting was amazing and the stage was so well done and simple. Solange holds her own and I cannot wait to see her when she comes back. You can tell she was feeling it when she got down on the left side of the stage and started singing to us, beautiful moment that reminds me why I love going to live shows/concerts. Flying Lotus was an absolute trip as well. I wish she would've brought Kelela out on this date... Scales is such a beautiful song and I'd of loved to see it live with them two.

For new users looking to follow their favorite bands and performers, our Artists pages are often the best place to start.

Whether you're on our site, or using our free app for iPhone and Android, the Songkick artists search engine is the fastest and simplest way to keep track of who's doing what right now. Be the first to learn which acts are touring, when they might be playing a venue near you, and how to get tickets for any future shows you like the sound of.

Looking to discover someone new? Hey, you’re our kind of music fan. That's why we've also included upcoming Live Stream Concerts alongside our artist searches, meaning you can easily schedule a more casual drop-in from the comfort of your couch.

Since launching our first app back in 2007, you guys - the fans, the concert-goers, the musical explorers - have been at the very heart of everything we do here. Our dream and our drive was always to bring Songkick members closer than ever before to the sounds they love, and the people who create them. Simply put, we pride ourselves on being your direct link to the greatest music artists on the planet.

Who are they, exactly? Well, according to our members, that changes almost by the hour...so let's talk about how Songkick keeps you in the loop.

Best live artists

A quick glance at our Most Popular Artists chart might tell you a few key things about the sorts of music fans we vibe with. For starters, it shows just how varied our members' tastes are. Pop, rock, dance, hip-hop, indie/alt and R&B all feature heavily, alongside a whole bunch of underground genres and rising scenes.

No two of you are quite the same - and frankly, we love to see it! Any time you check in, our 'most popular artists worldwide' and 'trending artists this week' leaderboards always read like a line-up for the greatest, most diverse live festival on Earth.

Among the top searches and best-selling music artists on our global roster, you might find anyone from Rhianna, Coldplay, Eminem and Ed Sheeran, through to Drake, U2, Kanye West,

Maroon 5, Beyoncé, The Midnight, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, Imagine Dragons, Justin Bieber - and that's barely looking outside the top 20.

After all, if the weekly race for a spot on our most popular charts tells us anything, it's that the whole concept of 'best live bands' is a tricky one to pin down. Everybody's looking for a completely different type of experience, every night of the year.

That's another thing we love about our users: you're incredible at keeping us on our toes. In return, we’ve made it our mission to help keep you on yours.

Find and follow your favorite artists on Songkick

When people talk about the 'best live bands in the world', a few big names will reliably come up time and time again. Just as crucially, there'll always be a good handful of newcomers, hot tips and total curveballs in there too.

For us and our members alike, that's a huge part of what keeps the live concert scene so fresh and exciting. There's nothing quite like the thrill of discovering a new favorite artist you'd previously never even heard of - and when that discovery involves a performer blowing you away with an incredible live show or streamed concert, the feeling is enhanced tenfold.

Songkick started out with the goal of helping you capture that moment as often as possible. Now, more than a decade into this, it's 100% what we're still about today.

Music | Review: Bruce Springsteen delivers incredible evening of music for fans

Jetlag? What jetlag?

Bruce Springsteen certainly seemed no worse for wear after making two quick cross-country flights over the last few days before playing what turned out to be a dynamite show at Chase Center in San Francisco on Thursday.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer performed Monday in San Diego then zoomed back East to make a guest appearance (with fellow troubadour Maggie Rogers) at a show by country star Zach Bryan at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday night.

Then it was right back to the West Coast in time to play the first of two sold-out shows at the home of the Golden State Warriors.

The next gig is on Sunday, which gives Springsteen time to — oh, I don’t know — perhaps fly to Kauai for fish tacos before returning to Chase for Night 2.

And if he does decide to do just that, well, you can rest assured that he’ll still deliver the goods for Bay Area fans on Easter Sunday.

That’s why he’s The Boss.

The 74-year-old Springsteen was in nothing short of legendary form as he led his mighty E Street Band through a 29-song show that absolutely captivated the approximately 16,500 fans in attendance for three hours.

He’d draw from a wide selection of his songbook, touching upon 11 of his studio albums. There were a few debuts for this 2024 tour — which, granted, is only a few dates old at this point — as well as the favorites fans can pretty much expect to hear at every Springsteen show these days.

Backed by 17 people onstage — including a versatile horn section and excellent backing vocalists — the bandleader opened the show right around 7:45 p.m. with “Something in the Night,” one of five songs that he’d pull from the classic 1978 platter “Darkness on the Edge of Town.”

The song — which was being played live for the first time on this tour — proved to be a bit of a mellow starter, but things would quickly heat up as The Boss turned to 2002’s “The Rising” for a powerful version of “Lonesome Day.”

The next two offerings, “Ghosts” and “Two Hearts,” were both solid, but the show reached a whole new level when Springsteen and company unleashed “Prove It All Night.” The tune, another “Darkness on the Edge of Town” standout, featured the first prominent sax work from Jake Clemons (who is the nephew of the late E Street legend Clarence Clemons) as well as some really aggressive and muscular guitar playing from the bandleader himself.

They’d keep the party rolling in high gear with the defiant “Born in the U.S.A.” anthem “No Surrender” before thrilling the audience with the tour debut of “Atlantic City,” delivering a full-band version that shared the lyrics — and not much else — with the stark solo recording originally found on 1982’s “Nebraska.”

Springsteen’s voice was on point throughout the night, showing no signs of the medical condition that originally forced him to postpone these Chase shows — which were originally scheduled for last December — as well as other dates. The star did bring up the subject about 80 minutes into the show, which was first time he paused to really talk to the crowd all evening.

“My belly hurt so bad, I couldn’t sing,” explained Springsteen, who underwent treatment for peptic ulcer disease. “Every time I went to sing, my belly ached. When I went to do anything, my belly ached. Then it ached some more. So, we couldn’t make it. But I’m glad to be back tonight.”

The last third of the main set was all A-list material, as the singer rolled through “Backstreets,” “Because the Night,” “She’s the One,” “Wrecking Ball,” “The Rising” and “Badlands” before closing, some 130 minutes after he started the show, with the always-popular “Thunder Road.”

The 18 musicians would take their well-deserved bows, but then, instead of leaving the stage, it was right back to business as they rolled through a generous encore highlighted by “Land of Hope and Dreams” (another tour debut), “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” and, of course, “Born to Run.”

“San Francisco!” Springsteen exclaimed as the encore drew to a close. “I want you to go home tonight and then I want you to wake up tomorrow morning and I want you to tell everybody that you see that you that you’ve just seen the heart-stopping, pants-dropping, earth-shocking, hard-rocking, booty-shaking, earth-quaking, love-making, Viagra-taking, history-making legendary E Street Band.”

Consider it done, Boss.

About Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson is one of the most influential entertainers of the modern era. Her music has won her 5 GRAMMY® Awards, 2 Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a nomination for an Academy Award along with dozens of American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards. She has received accolades as an actress as well including the NAACP Best Supporting Actor award. Janet is a published author, dancer, businessperson, philanthropist and one of biggest-selling artists in popular music history. With sales of over 180 million records worldwide, Janet Jackson stands as one of the best-selling artists of all time with a string of hits that have left an indelible impression on pop culture. She is the record holder for the biggest selling debut tour in history and is the first woman to debut in the Top 10 of the Hot 100 charts. She also stands as one of only four artists to have a #1 album for four successive decades alongside Barbra Streisand, Bruce Springsteen and U2. Even today she continues to make an undeniable impact. In 2018, her last single, “Made for Now” with Daddy Yankee, released by her own Rhythm Nation Records, hit #1 on the Dance Clubs Songs chart making it her 20th single on the chart in the span of her career. In 2019, she was inducted the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside her brothers and in that same year her critically acclaimed Las Vegas residency, “Metamorphosis” closed out to record breaking ticket sales with only 18 dates at the Park MGM's Park Theater. As reported by Billboard Boxscore, the legendary singer, dancer, songwriter, producer, and actress is among the biggest Vegas performers of this decade, ahead of Celine Dion (2011), Britney Spears (2013) and the Backstreet Boys (2017). Her critically acclaimed and award-winning documentary “Janet Jackson.” brought in over 20 million viewers in one week.

On February 4, 2021, Janet Jackson’s iconic mega platinum-selling third album Control turned 35. The album also returned to the top of the charts, hitting #1 on the Apple Top 40 US Pop Album chart. Led by five chart-busting hit singles — “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” “Nasty,” “Control,” “When I Think Of You,” —with their complementary, tightly choreographed music videos — and “Let’s Wait Awhile,” Control became Jackson’s first No. 1 Pop album. The album also made Billboard chart history for having the longest continuous run on the Hot 100 with singles from one album, ultimately tallying a remarkable 65 consecutive weeks from that perch. To date, Control has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.

About Nelly

A savvy rapper with crossover appeal, Nelly seemed like a novelty when he debuted with the Top Ten pop hit 'Country Grammar (Hot...)' in 2000, but he quickly proved to be a legitimate hitmaker with 'Hot in Herre,' 'Dilemma,' and 'Shake Ya Tailfeather'—and those three only account for a fraction of his Hot 100-topping and Grammy-winning hits. These feats built the foundation of a career that boasts six consecutive Top Ten albums, from the diamond 'Country Grammar' (2000) to the platinum '5.0' (2010) and 'The Fix' (2015), leading to warmly received collaborations in the 2020s. Amidst his recent studio recording sessions, Nelly is actively promoting his freshly introduced moonshine brand, "MoShine," preparing some huge entrepreneurial announcements and unveiling his latest philanthropic initiative, 314 Education.

Jazz at Lincoln Center’s New Season Includes Tribute to Bayard Rustin

The civil rights activist’s life and legacy will be honored in a 2024-25 lineup that will also include spotlights on jazz history, and a rising star to warm up November.

By Christopher Kuo

Jazz at Lincoln Center announced its 2024-25 concert season on Tuesday, which will include performances that celebrate the 20th anniversary of the center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, a tribute to the civil rights activist Bayard Rustin and concerts by Grammy Award-winning artists.

The season will run from Sept. 19, 2024, to June 14, 2025, and will begin with Hot Jazz and Swing, in which the music director Loren Schoenberg will guide the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra through revitalized arrangements of 1920s and ’30s tunes.

On Oct. 18-19, Bryan Carter, a drummer and composer, will lead the Jazz at Pride Orchestra in honoring the life and legacy of Rustin.

Other nods to the past will focus on the history of jazz. Led by Wynton Marsalis, the artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, the center’s orchestra will perform 10 concerts that will each pay homage to a decade of jazz history, from the 1920s to the present.

Performances in February will honor the early years of jazz and its many inspirations by incorporating cuts from blues, gospel, country and bluegrass, as well as from recordings by Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and others. On Nov. 8-9, a pair of concerts will focus on the jazz pioneers Thelonious Monk , Bud Powell, Tadd Dameron and others.

From Jan. 16-18, Cool School & Hard Bop concerts will explore midcentury jazz, featuring works from Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Max Roach and others. And May 29-31, the saxophonist Ted Nash will lead the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in performances of new arrangements of music associated with the 1970s.

The season will also include more modern performances, including concerts that will feature music from Joanne Brackeen, Charlie Haden, Terence Blanchard and others.

Several concerts will also spotlight specific musicians. On Nov. 15-16, Joshua Redman will return to the Rose Theater in a collaboration with Gabrielle Cavassa, a rising star from New Orleans. Later in the season, on Feb. 14-15, Dianne Reeves will perform in a Valentine’s Day celebration filled with songs about romance and heartbreak. The pianist and composer Monty Alexander will celebrate his 80th birthday by performing on Jan. 24-25, while Anat Cohen and her brothers will celebrate her 50th birthday with performances of early swing, post-bop and Brazilian choro on March 14-15.

The final performances of the season, June 13-14, will feature music directed by Marsalis and will showcase works by the veteran band members Chris Crenshaw, Vincent Gardner and others.

Country music star Colt Ford suffers heart attack, hospitalized after Arizona concert

Country music star Colt Ford suffered a heart attack after his concert in Arizona Thursday night.

Ford, 53, had just wrapped up his set at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row — a restaurant and night club named after the hit singer — in Gilbert, Ariz. when he experienced a medical emergency, according to 12News.

The “Workin’ on” singer was transported to Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa where he is in the Intensive Care Unit.

Ford was listed in stable but critical condition, the outlet added.

The Post has reached out to his reps for comment.

Ford, whose real name is Jason Farris Brown, is prominent on the country-rap music scene and has been featured on several tracks with other country music stars.

He, alongside Brantley Gilbert, co-wrote “Dirt Road Anthem” which the duo originally recorded before Jason Aldean made the song famous on his 2010 album “My Kinda Party.”

Ford has also collaborated with various stars including Jake Owen, Chase Rice, Walker Hayes, Toby Keith, Lady A and Willie Nelson.

In 2022, Ford was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, a chronic neuromuscular autoimmune disease that causes weakness in the voluntary muscles.

The singer previously said the disease affected his eye more than his throat or face.

“It hadn’t really affected my throat, but it really affected my eye. I had no control over my right eye,” Colt told Taste of Country in 2023. “It really messes with your vision. I could see perfectly out of either eye, but then I would look together and I’d see three of you and you would be melting together like a lava lamp.”

A year earlier he announced he was diagnosed with eye cancer but escaped needing full chemotherapy because it was detected early.

“The doctor told me I was a week to 10 days from having to go on full chemo,” he told PEOPLE at the time.

He underwent surgery following the diagnosis and was back on stage days later, the outlet reported.

The Georgia native was originally a professional golfer on the Nationwide Tour before he found passion in country and hip hop.
