Fishing travel insurance

Going fishing is a favourite pastime for many people, and can be as relaxing or extreme as you choose to make it. Some types of fishing can be quite adventurous so you’re going to need adequate travel insurance .

Our travel insurance policies all come with automatic cover for  over 50 sports and activities  including insurance for surfing,  jet skiing  and even basic  scuba diving ! If you’re going fishing on holiday, you’ll be pleased to know that cover for all types of fishing, including deep sea fishing, is included at no extra charge. You’ll be covered for fishing while you’re away, even if you’re doing it for your entire trip.

Whether you’re new to fishing or experienced in fishing at sea, you can rest assured knowing that your travel insurance won’t be something to worry about. As always terms and conditions apply, so check the  policy wording  for full details of these and the other activities we cover.

Why do you need travel insurance for fishing?

While incredibly fun, fishing can carry hidden risks. Slipping on a wet surface or cutting yourself with a pocket knife could lead to an injury abroad, and you may need medical attention. It’s important to think about having a thorough travel insurance policy which will cover you in the event of an accident or injury. Rest assured, we’ll have you covered!

What is included with fishing insurance?

As fishing falls under all our policies as one of  50 amazing adventure sports and activities , you’ll be able to easily ride those waves knowing that you’re covered for:

  • Medical expenses and hospital benefit
  • Personal accident and liability
  • Cancelling and cutting short your holiday
  • Abandoning your trip
  • Delayed departure
  • Accommodation cover
  • Personal belongings and baggage
  • Personal money, passport and travel documents
  • Legal expenses

Will my fishing equipment be insured?

While fishing is automatically covered under all our policies, sports equipment can be expensive, so if you’re travelling with yours it’s important that it’s fully insured. All our policies include cover for valuables, including sports equipment, so make sure you choose the right level of cover for your needs. If your fishing equipment is particularly expensive, you can even add extended valuables cover to your policy, which covers up to £1,000 per item – see our  policy wordings  for more details.

Fishing safety tips

Don’t let an accident on the first day ruin the whole week; remember a few simple tips and ensure a great time fishing.

  • Make sure to use a qualified and a recognised guide
  • Always make sure equipment is fully functional
  • Choose the right travel insurance policy for you,  get a quote online  or read our  policy documents  for more information on our travel insurance for fishing.

Please note: ‘Fishing travel insurance’ is a general term for cover included within our standard travel insurance. We don’t offer specialist insurance cover for this specific activity.

  • Unlimited emergency medical expenses available on Black level policies.

Best Fishing Tackle Insurance for 2023

Fishing is one our favorite activities, but it isn’t the cheapest sport out there. If you’re an avid fisherman, you probably have a good amount of equipment. We can easily spend thousands of dollars on our fishing gear, and we should protect it. Finding the best fishing tackle insurance of 2023 is an excellent way to protect your investment and give you some peace of mind.

Our Top 3 Best Fishing Tackle Insurance Providers

Here are three solid options for fishing tackle insurance. Please keep in mind, it’s important to check with your current providers as well. Your home insurance may already offer some type of coverage, or an add on. Also, if you don’t own a boat but you have a heft amount of gear, going with a rider to your home insurance policy may make more sense.

1. BoatUS / Geico

BoatUS has teamed up with Geico to provide some quality boat/fishing tackle coverage.

Here’s some more details:

  • Up to $5,000 per incident for fishing equipment and gear lost, damaged or stolen.
  • Automatic Tournament Coverage. Our coverage follows you to all the competitions you enter in North America, including Canadian and Mexican waters. (Note: Mexican Liability Coverage – required when boating in Mexico.)
  • PLUS entry fee reimbursement should a claim cause you to have to withdraw from a tournament.

2. Progressive

Progressive offers some solid boat insurance that you can add your fishing gear to. Coverage starts as low as $100/year!  They also offer home and auto which may offer a good opportunity to bundle everything together.

3. American Family Insurance

AMF is another good provider who offers fishing tackle coverage on their boat policies.

How to Select the Best Fishing Tackle Insurance

Luckily, there are several options when it comes to insuring your fishing gear. We’ll discuss all the options throughout the rest of this article.

1. Insuring Your Fishing Tackle through Boat Insurance

Many boat insurance policies can include fishing gear. Some offer personal possessions coverage with every policy. Fishing gear will often fall within this coverage. Policies will likely cover:

  • Rods & Reels
  • Trolling motors

Keep in mind, not all policies automatically cover your personal possessions or fishing gear. You might have to add a policy rider to your existing boat coverage to qualify for this protection. Also, this type of coverage will come with dollar limits. You might face a total limit on your gear, as well as a per-item limit on your possessions. Fishing equipment coverage pays for loss or damage to your fishing kit while you are carrying your fishing equipment on or off the boat or while on board an insured boat. You may receive as much as $10,000 coverage, or up to $1,000 per item. Also, note that sometimes, a tackle box is considered to be an item regardless of what is inside. Be sure to check with your provider on specifics related to your tackle box.

2. Insuring Your Fishing Tackle through Home Insurance

Your fishing equipment is typically considered part of your Personal Property coverage on your Homeowners, Tenants or Condo insurance policy. This means you have coverage for your gear at home,or if temporarily away from your home (for example, while on the lake). If your gear is damaged or stolen, you can often provide receipts to get reimbursed the “replacement cost.”

Replacement Cost:  The cost to repair or replace your damaged item with a new piece of like kind and quality.

The caveat is that your fishing equipment is subject to your Personal Property deductible. These will vary but can range from $500 to $1,000 or more. This can obviously be a disadvantage to many anglers. If your deductible is high, you could eaasily still be on the hook (no pun intended) for a good amount of lost gear.

Best Fishing Tackle Insurance Tips

Aside from actually selecting a policy, the most important thing to remember os documentation, especially for pricier pieces of gear (think $500-1000+). Your insurance provider will likely require receipts substantiating the costs of these bigger ticket items.

We would highly recommend building a log for documentation breaking out the cost of all of your gear. You should also include pictures of each piece to go along with your cost information.

Hi, I’m Ben Hartsfield, you can also follow me on Twitter, and I’ve been passionate about fishing for longer than I care to recollect.

The first thing I can remember doing when I was young, was fishing on the lake that was next to the cabin we used to spend our Summers in, willing the days away with my dad and Grandpa.

I guess fishing is in my DNA, and it’s a generational love affair that’s been passed down from one generation to the next.

TRAVEL AND TRIP INSURANCE: WORTH IT?

WHY TRIP INSURANCE IS A GOOD IDEA

Here at Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures we recognize that when traveling to far-off places, things happen that our company, ourselves, and our customers cannot always control. For that reason, we strongly recommend that our clients purchase trip insurance for all angling packages and vacations - no matter where in the world they are traveling. Why do we recommend trip insurance? Read on! Trip insurance policies for the traveling angler are inexpensive, quick, and really easy. That said, however, the fact is that most destination anglers will never need to use the travel insurance policy that they purchased. Trips almost always go smoothly, and it is rare that people run into serious, last-minute problems that keep them from going on their trip or enjoying their trip once they are there. The reality, however, is that every once in a while, things can go wrong. And – if you’ve bought a policy that you end up needing – you will feel like it is one of the best investments you ever made! Trip insurance does not cost very much at all, and complete trip coverage on a week- long saltwater trip for a customer between the age of 35 and 59 will usually cost less than $200.00 for the entire policy. If you have just paid $4000.00 for a fishing package and another $500.00 to $700.00 on your airline tickets, this is well worth the price. After exploring numerous insurance options for our clients and working with several insurance providers in the past, Yellow Dog has chosen to partner with Travel Guard to offer coverage for our client. Travel Guard is a well-know, respected, and experienced company that offers high quality, affordable insurance designed for traveling anglers.

Once you purchase a trip insurance policy, you can be covered on everything from trip cancellation due to jury duty all the way to a trip cut short by a tropical storm or hurricane. This policy covers almost everything you can imagine, and includes such things as lost equipment coverage, delayed baggage and equipment coverage, outright trip cancellation, reimbursement for license costs, medical expense coverage, coverage in the event of airline or tour operator bankruptcy, and even coverage if pre-existing medical conditions force a trip cancellation or interruption. Our hope and expectation is that every destination angling trip that we book be problem-free, and the reality is that 99% of the trips that we handle are. Weigh the situation, however, and decide for yourself whether to purchase a supplemental trip insurance policy. If you end up needing the coverage, you'll be very glad that you have it! Call our in-house travel insurance specialist today to get your quote, and talk through the details to see if travel insurance is a good fit for you.

If you are interested in purchasing a trip policy, or if you have any questions at all, please feel free to call us here at the Yellow Dog office at 800-777-5060.

Fishing in America

Fishing holidays in America are a popular choice for many U.S citizens, with countless lakes, rivers, and coastal areas offering plenty of opportunities for fishing enthusiasts. However, planning a fishing holiday requires some consideration, especially when it comes to travel insurance. In this article, we’ll explore the different types of fishing holidays in America and how travel insurance can help protect your investment.

  • Freshwater fishing holidays: Freshwater fishing is a popular choice for many Americans. Whether you’re looking to catch bass, trout, or catfish, there are countless lakes and rivers throughout the country that offer excellent freshwater fishing opportunities. Some of the best freshwater fishing destinations in America include the Great Lakes, the Ozarks, and the Adirondacks. When planning a freshwater fishing holiday, it’s important to consider travel insurance that covers any unforeseen events such as trip cancellations or delays due to inclement weather or natural disasters.
  • Saltwater fishing holidays: If you’re looking for a more challenging fishing experience, saltwater fishing may be the way to go. America’s coastlines are home to a wide variety of fish, from marlin and tuna to redfish and snook. Some of the best saltwater fishing destinations in America include Florida’s Gulf Coast, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and the waters off the coast of Southern California. When planning a saltwater fishing holiday, travel insurance can help protect against any unforeseen events, such as medical emergencies, trip cancellations or delays due to weather, or lost or stolen fishing equipment.
  • Fly fishing holidays: Fly fishing is a unique and challenging way to fish, requiring a combination of skill, patience, and technique. America’s rivers and streams are home to a wide variety of trout and other fish, making it an ideal destination for fly fishing enthusiasts. Some of the best fly fishing destinations in America include Montana’s Madison River, Colorado’s Frying Pan River, and Wyoming’s Snake River. When planning a fly fishing holiday, it’s important to consider travel insurance that covers any unforeseen events such as trip cancellations or delays due to inclement weather or natural disasters, as well as medical emergencies.
  • Ice fishing holidays: For those who enjoy fishing in colder temperatures, ice fishing is a great option. America’s northern states, such as Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin, offer some of the best ice fishing opportunities in the country. When planning an ice fishing holiday, it’s important to consider travel insurance that covers any unforeseen events such as trip cancellations or delays due to inclement weather, as well as medical emergencies that may arise from exposure to the cold.
  • Deep sea fishing holidays: If you’re looking for an adventure on the high seas, deep sea fishing may be the way to go. America’s coastal waters offer some of the best deep sea fishing opportunities in the world, with a wide variety of fish species to catch. Some of the best deep sea fishing destinations in America include Florida’s Gulf Coast, Hawaii, and the waters off the coast of Southern California. When planning a deep sea fishing holiday, it’s important to consider travel insurance that covers any unforeseen events such as medical emergencies, trip cancellations or delays due to weather, or lost or stolen fishing equipment.

In conclusion, fishing holidays in America offer a wide variety of options for U.S citizens looking to cast their line in some of the country’s best fishing locations. However, it’s important to consider travel insurance when planning a fishing holiday to protect against any unforeseen events that may arise. Whether you’re planning a freshwater, saltwater, fly, ice, or deep sea fishing holiday, travel insurance can help ensure that your investment is protected.

International Fishing Trips

Fishing holidays are a great way to unwind and connect with nature, and there are many popular international destinations that offer a wide variety of fishing experiences. For U.S citizens who are planning a fishing holiday abroad, it’s important to consider travel insurance to ensure that you are protected in case of any unforeseen events. In this article, we will explore some of the most popular types of fishing holidays at international destinations and the importance of travel insurance.

  • Fly Fishing in Patagonia, Argentina

Patagonia is one of the most popular destinations for fly fishing enthusiasts. This region offers a wide variety of fishing experiences, from pristine rivers to crystal-clear lakes. Some of the most sought-after species in Patagonia include brown trout, rainbow trout, and brook trout. Travel insurance is particularly important for fly fishing holidays, as there is always a risk of injury or accidents in remote locations.

  • Deep Sea Fishing in the Caribbean

The Caribbean is known for its crystal-clear waters and abundant marine life, making it an ideal destination for deep-sea fishing. Popular species in the Caribbean include marlin, sailfish, tuna, and dorado. Travel insurance is important for deep-sea fishing holidays, as there is always a risk of accidents and injuries while out at sea.

  • Ice Fishing in Lapland, Finland

For those who enjoy the winter months, ice fishing in Lapland is a must-try experience. This region offers some of the best ice fishing experiences in the world, with popular species including pike, perch, and trout. Travel insurance is particularly important for ice fishing holidays, as the cold weather and remote locations can increase the risk of accidents and injuries.

  • Bass Fishing in Mexico

Mexico is a popular destination for bass fishing, with the country’s many lakes and rivers offering a wide variety of fishing experiences. Popular species in Mexico include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and striped bass. Travel insurance is important for bass fishing holidays, as there is always a risk of accidents and injuries while out on the water.

  • Trout Fishing in New Zealand

New Zealand is known for its beautiful landscapes and diverse fishing experiences, with trout fishing being one of the most popular activities for visitors. Popular species in New Zealand include brown trout and rainbow trout. Travel insurance is important for trout fishing holidays, as there is always a risk of accidents and injuries while out in remote locations.

In addition to considering travel insurance, it’s important for U.S citizens to research the entry requirements and visa policies of their chosen destination. Some countries may require a visa or other documentation before entering, and failing to meet these requirements can result in denied entry or even deportation.

In conclusion, fishing holidays offer a great opportunity to unwind and connect with nature, but it’s important to consider travel insurance to ensure that you are protected in case of any unforeseen events. By researching your destination, understanding the risks involved in your chosen activity, and purchasing comprehensive travel insurance, you can enjoy your fishing holiday with peace of mind.

How is Fishing Insurance different?

Despite fishing being generally considered as a safe sport that is enjoyed by people of all ages, there are certain risks associated with it.

Incidents such as minor burns from overhead electric power lines or drowning following a slip or fall have been reported, therefore insurance is always recommended for your fishing activities.

The time has finally come. You’ve saved enough coins to book your Vanuatu fishing trip . Dates have been blocked off, flights and hotels booked and paid for in advance, new rods and reels spooled with fresh braid prepared and packed, new lures rigged with brand new hooks. Ready for take-off!

But you’ve read our recent article about fishing travel woes and realized that you have yet to purchase a fishing travel insurance. Not really as exciting as having a big doggie at the end of your line, but travel insurance is a necessity, based on my personal experience.

Having worked in the fishing charter industry for the past few years, I have dealt with a lot of situations wherein I’ve gained a lot of knowledge and experience in fishing travel disaster world. Lost luggage, cancelled flights, natural disasters and even cancelled trips can throw a spanner into your well-oiled plans, proving how crucial it is to have an insurance policy covering these things mentioned above.

I will be sharing discussions I’ve had with past and current guests to provide context. I am not a travel insurance expert, but I do know how important it is to have and how great it is to have when you “need” it.

“No, you don’t “NEED” travel insurance, but if you find yourself “NEEDING” it, you’ll be glad you have it.”

Why do I Need Fishing Travel Insurance?

Even the most seasoned fish travelers fail to understand the importance of having a fishing travel insurance policy to cover them, and I’ll try to keep things extremely quick to understand.

Let’s pretend that you aren’t a tough and outdoorsy individual and you get a bug or influenza after the guy seated next to you on the plane sneezed into your dinner tray while you were in the loo. Yum. What if you broke your wrist by slipping off the boat’s gunnel straight into the transom well? Basic medical treatment in most countries are fairly affordable and easy. But what if all your expensive camera and fishing gear gets lost or stolen? What if you need emergency evacuation after an 800lb blue marlin impales you in the upper thigh? Unforeseen events and disasters may happen in a blink of an eye and you suddenly find yourself in a situation where you need to cancel your trip. Sucks balls doesn’t it? All of the above situations are very unlikely but can still happen. Spending a few hundred bucks on travel insurance will be worth it. No, you don’t “NEED” travel insurance, but if you find yourself “NEEDING” it, you’ll be glad you have it.

What kind of Fishing Travel Insurance Do I Need?

Let’s focus on fishing trip specific needs. Different companies offer heaps of different policies and even more possible combinations of the said policies. Sifting through all of them will take a lot of effort but doing so, you’ll find something that will be best for you as a fisho. Just like your car insurance, they are different levels of coverage depending on how much you are willing to spend. Some more pricier policies can cover everything, from emergency evacuation, trip cancellations to lost or stolen luggage. Warning: always read the fine print! It’s in the fine print where they tell you (or try not to tell you) all about the monetary limitations on your policy.

If you feel extra healthy and good, you can customize your policy to only cover major medical evacuation and just let you deal with your chicken tandoori related diarrhea on your own, all for a cheaper price.

As standard practice, I always recommend my guests get the following covered:

  • Sickness or Injuries coverage
  • Trip cancellation coverage
  • Trip interruption coverage
  • Emergency evacuation coverage
  • Lost or stolen luggage coverage

Let’s revisit the scenario earlier. Trip booked and everything fully paid. All gear purchased and packed. Then a sudden illness forces you to cancel your fishing Vanuatu trip days before your departure. Trip cancellation coverage will be your savior here and can cover the above-mentioned expenses. Trip cut short due to a sudden hurricane or “Act of God”? Flight cancelled due to a natural disaster? Trip interruption insurance to the rescue. 50kg barracuda bite two fingers off you while unhooking the green bastard? Emergency evacuation coverage has your back! All your fishing gear stolen in transit? Lost or stolen luggage coverage at your service.

Again, different companies, different policies, different costs. Make sure to buy one that you feel is right for you.

Emergency Evacuation Insurance? How Dangerous is the Fishing Trip I Booked?

I signed up for a fun and relaxing trip, not to wrestle with sharks!

The likelihood of getting into extremely life-threatening situations are slim, so no need to over react, but as I’ve said earlier, you’ll be glad you have it if you end up needing it. Mobilizing an emergency response team to rescue you from a remote fishing location , then rushing to the nearest facility that are qualified to handle your case is not cheap at all. Some policies may cover up to $100,000, $1M or even unlimited coverage! Depends on what your budget is or what risks you are willing to take. Well known and world trusted companies offer short term coverage that covers you only from the start date to the end date of your trip, which is a smarter and significantly cheaper choice.

What if My Fishing Gear Gets Lost or Stolen? Will They be Covered?

I cannot tell where or when theft or loss may occur, but this is another aspect I always ask my guests to look into, hard. Ensure lost or stolen items are covered in your policy. I hate repeating myself but different companies will provide varying levels of coverage. Some will cover only $50 per item and some will cover the full cost. Just make sure you have all the receipts and photo evidence of your gear to make things easier come claim time.

Once a claim has been sent to the insurance company, it will take some time for them to review and there are really good insurance companies that act really fast and ensure they keep their clients happy and satisfied. Diamonds in the rough.

If our Fishing Trip Gets Cancelled, How Will I Get Reimbursed?

If a fishing trip gets cancelled by the charter company you booked with, booking managers or fishing guides will assist you in your claim by providing all the necessary documents and evidence required by your insurance company. We’ve had times where we had to send them detailed weather reports from the national weather bureau to prove a trip was cancelled or cut short due to bad weather. We’ll do these for you with no drama and we’ll be extremely happy if you get reimbursed.

I truly hope you consider getting a fishing travel insurance policy to cover yourself for your next Vanuatu fishing trip . Not a necessity but is awesome to have when you eventually need it.

Fishing Tackle Insurance, Are You Covered?

Several months ago, I was on a fly fishing trip in Colorado. It was a trip I had planned with some friends for months, and after two days of amazing fishing, we were packing up to head to another river for a few more days. We loaded all the gear in the back of my car, went to bed, and woke up the next morning with the back windshield broken and all our gear missing. We had a few rods in our house, but other than that, we had lost it all.

This is what caused me to look into purchasing fishing gear insurance. Losing thousands of dollars in gear is heartbreaking. It was an arsenal I had spent years building, and it would likely take years for me to rebuild it.

We have insurance for all sorts of other expensive items we own, so it would make sense that we should be able to insure fishing gear.

Let’s look at some general fishing gear insurance options, the best companies, and what to pay attention to when choosing your fishing gear insurance.

Disclosure Note: This article is not professional insurance advice; always check and confirm with your insurance agent or company on all matters with liabilities and coverage.

Understanding Your Fishing Tackle Insurance Options

Bass fishing boat insurance

First of all, what type of coverage is available for your fishing tackle? There are generally three main categories:

  • Coverage on your homeowners’ insurance plan
  • Coverage when you are out on a boat
  • Coverage when you are actually fishing by a river/lake

Finding coverage for your fishing gear isn’t always straightforward. Often, it has to be combined with another insurance policy you have, and all these plans from insurance companies are very complicated (with a lot of fine print! )

Fishing Gear Covered Under Homeowners Insurance

If you want to cover any losses while your gear is at your home, always check your existing house owner’s insurance policy. Usually, this is covered under the contents coverage section, with a subset category of theft from outbuildings (garage/shed) AND contents in the open. (in your garden or yard) These subset categories have different limits and excess amounts.

Most home insurance policies will have this cover for your fishing tackle, however, I would advise that any costly items that you want to cover, are individually listed in the agreement. Typically, they fall under the classification of sporting equipment. Depending on how much gear you have, you’ll have a deductible that you have to pay, and then you’ll be covered for the rest!

Another option within homeowners insurance is to schedule your gear with an endorsement. This allows you to have a $0 deductible, but you also have to make a list of every rod, reel, and other major piece of equipment that you want covered! Thankfully, you can group the smaller items into one.

This home insurance option does not cover items whilst you are fishing, left in your vehicle, or on your boat! If you are unsure or the policy is not clear, always check with the insurer to confirm any “grey areas”

Fishing Gear Covered Under Renters Insurance

If you’re renting your place to live, you likely have renters insurance. Renters’ insurance companies can cover your fishing equipment. They likely cover everything that you own and have on your property. Make sure you list it under your property!

A detailed inventory of each piece of equipment and the cost of replacing it is required! The more detailed you are, the easier it will be to file a claim and get everything replaced.

Fishing Gear Covered Under Boat Insurance

Standard boat insurance does not cover your fishing gear! It will only cover your boat, trailer, and outboard motor if you have specified these items.

If you have boat insurance, you can tack on additional insurance for any gear you have. Many companies call these separate categories “binders”. This is a fairly easy option since insurance companies are used to tacking on an added amount for all the gear you own.

Fishing Gear Coverage Whilst Out Fishing

If you are not on a boat, but instead just fishing by the river, lake, and seashore, you will need personal effects coverage for your gear. The coverage of these personal possessions will always have limits and often an excess.

All items of any substantial value must be itemized in the policy.

Keep Proof Of Purchase

Insurance companies often get away with not replacing your gear if you don’t have proof of purchase. Often, the proof of purchase must be a receipt that proves you purchased it brand new. As a result, it can be difficult to replace used gear, so keep this in mind. They will do everything they can not to have to pay a few thousand dollars to replace your gear.

When you purchase your insurance, do a detailed photo inventory of all your rods, reels, and other equipment. Take photos of each piece of equipment and inventory them. Also, make sure to clarify how much each piece of equipment would cost to replace. Use the MSRP to quantify how much it will cost to replace it all.

You’ll find that many companies have caps unless you can specify the exact amount it would cost if you lose them.

The biggest thing to remember is to save your receipts! Receipts are the first thing many companies will ask for when you file your claim.

Also, it doesn’t hurt to bring an adjuster out to your property to take a look at your inventory and do an assessment of your gear! So, in case it is stolen or damaged, they have seen what you have and won’t fight you as hard when it is time to file a claim.

Fishing Gear Insurance Options In The UK

Garden shed for storing fishing tackle

There are far more fishing gear insurance options in the United Kingdom. There are specific companies that exist that deal solely with fishing gear insurance claims and issues.

Insurance Choices

Depending on the company you choose to work with, you’ll often get a general coverage policy that you can tweak depending on your equipment arsenal. When you get your policy, the premium will depend on the overall worth of your fishing gear. From here, you can add more coverage to certain things!

Most insurance policies for fishing equipment in the United Kingdom cover loss, theft, and accidental damage. These policies include fishing rods, reels, and any technology you utilize on the water! Fish finders and GPS systems attached to your boat will also be able to be covered.

Best Fishing Gear Insurance Companies In The US

Since you won’t find insurance companies that just insure fishing gear on their own policy, you want to ensure the company you use has good boat insurance or homeowners insurance. Whatever you choose to attach it, you want to ensure it covers absolutely everything you need.

It’s not a bad idea to go with local insurance companies due to the individual attention you’ll receive, but most larger companies do have local branches for you to visit in case of any individual questions!

Progressive Insurance – You must have a Boat to Qualify!

Progressive Insurance is a nationwide company that offers insurance for your boat for as little as $100 a year! Again, you must have a boat or watercraft to qualify for fishing gear insurance. When you insure your fishing boat, take the necessary steps to include any fishing gear as part of your boat insurance policy.

Progressive will insure fishing rods, reels, power poles, and fish finders. Progressive will cover theft, the loss of gear, and general damage.  Progressive has local agents to help find you the best deal for your fishing tackle insurance, and they’re fairly easy to contact if you have any issues or questions.

Allstate Homeowners Insurance

If you own your place of residence, Allstate is a good option for people looking to insure their fishing gear. They have an entire category of sporting equipment that allows you to highlight any fishing gear that you have that you might want to be covered. Like other companies, Allstate will cover lost, damaged, and stolen gear.

On average, you’ll pay around $100 to $200 monthly for homeowners insurance!

Be detailed with your inventory and be able to provide proof of purchase for as many items as possible. Documentation is going to keep you protected!

Lemonade Renters Insurance

If you rent your place of residence, Lemonade should be the company you choose to go with when trying to insure your fishing gear. They protect your gear in case of a break-in, storm, or any other damage caused to it on the property. Be sure to inventory everything you own because they will want full details if you have to file a claim. Renters insurance is an absolute must for anyone with expensive gear they keep on their property.

Renters insurance isn’t overly expensive! You’ll only pay around $20 to $40 per month.

Best Fishing Gear Insurance Companies In The UK

Car loaded for going fishing

Since the United Kingdom has companies specifically dedicated to fishing equipment, you can find policies that fit your needs. You can also compare the costs and coverage against your homeowners’ policy to see which provides the best fishing insurance.

The Insurance Emporium

The Insurance Emporium offers UK residents a policy specifically dedicated to their fishing gear. The cost is generally around £15 per month! In your policy, you will get coverage for loss, theft, accidental damage, and a few other optional categories.

Generally, the company covers fishing rods, reels, and any other types of equipment that you use on your fishing excursions. The Insurance Emporium offers the option to attach fishing clothes, gadgets, and cell phones to your policy, depending on what you want to do! These customizable insurance options for fishing equipment are great options.

You’ll be okay if you have a fully documented arsenal with pictures and replacement prices.

Anglers First Insurance

Anglers First Insurance is another company in the UK that is specifically dedicated to fishing equipment. They can insure up to £18,000 of your gear. You can get coverage for your rods, reels, and technology that you own. Like most other companies, they will cover lost, damaged, or stolen property.

Is Fishing A Sport Or A Hobby? From An Angler’s Viewpoint

72e9980adff2c1d84f3bf761655e0797?s=30&d=mm&r=g

At around £12 to £20 per month, you can have peace of mind that you’ll be covered regardless of what happens to you.

Plus, their website is fairly easy to use. All you have to do is list the overall price of your equipment arsenal, and they’ll figure out the best options for you. Anglers First has a full range of scaled policies for any angler.

Just ensure you have a fully documented listing, preferably with pictures and replacement prices. You can add and subtract fishing gear to the policy throughout the year without any extra costs.

Full Replacement Coverage? Or Actual Value Coverage?

Be aware that insurance companies are not all the same and don’t follow the same claim process. Anglers must consider whether the insurance coverage is for the actual value OR the replacement value. Again, check around and ask the fishing tackle insurance agent – you should always opt for the “Stated Value” coverage for all your fishing-related tackle.

If you have expensive specific rods or reels, then get them valued , if you have antique equipment that is impossible to replace then they could be worth a huge amount of money.

Replacement coverage will likely give you back a small % of the cost you paid when new , and can be very subjective!

How Much Does Fishing Tackle Insurance Cost?

The average cost for one year’s insurance for fishing tackle is minimal, considering the price of new fishing gear these days. The price will vary from one insurance company to another, in my experience for $5,000 coverage you will likely pay $40 to $100 per year. Unfortunately, insurance costs continue to rise every year.

For most anglers, £5,000 will be sufficient, but if you own a pole like the 16m Matrix MTX3 Ultra , then the £5,000 is unlikely to be enough since these and other long poles are over £2000!

We spend a lot of money on all sorts of gear each year, and it doesn’t take much to reach £5,000! If you’re a diehard carp specimen hunter fishing regularly on carp syndicates , you will know what I mean……..

Fishing Tackle Insurance – Frequently Asked Questions

What are the personal effects covered in a boat policy.

If you’re in the US and looking to insure your fishing gear as well as your boat, look for the personal effects option. This personal effects option is where you’ll list the overall price of everything besides your boat.

How Do You Insure A Fishing Rod?

Check out the agents online and ask for a quote. Using an insurance company that deals specifically with boats and fishing tackle is the better option. Always carefully confirm the small print when comparing the different insurance policies and pricing.

Does Fishing Equipment Insurance Cover Other Liabilities?

Insurance for your fishing equipment may cover public liability and personal accidents as part of the cover. Check your schedule on what is being insured.

Does Fishing Gear Insurance Cover Worldwide?

Yes, you can get a policy that covers fishing in countries outside of your own. Usually, these cover 30 days upwards to a maximum of 90 days per year in most foreign countries.

Is My Fishing Gear Insured If Stolen From My Vehicle?

You can only claim from fishing insurance companies for theft from a car if it is lost whilst traveling to and from your fishing location. When you have the vehicle parked, there is no coverage for theft.

Are My Fishing Clothes Insured?

Yes, most insurance covers even your fishing clothes and other apparel . But remember that any expensive items should be itemized and your receipts kept whenever a claim occurs.

Final Thoughts

We all love our fishing gear. It’s what brings many of us an extreme amount of joy. The last thing we want to happen is to lose, damage, or have it stolen.

Do your part to find an insurance policy that works best for you so you can fish without worry!

I hope this article was informative and helpful, please check out some of my other in-depth articles on fishing rods , and all types of reels covering freshwater, saltwater, and fly fishing options.

Angling insurance, specialist sports insurance for: angling coaches & instructors , angling teams & anglers.

Angling Coaches Insurance

Angling teams insurance, anglers insurance.

Fishing is a sport that millions participate in every year. And with increasing rod licence sales in the UK, cleaner rivers attracting new fans to the sport, and the sport being accessible to people of all ages and physical abilities, its popularity is rising. Speaking to anglers, we understand you want peace of mind that if anything happens to either yourself or the equipment you’ve invested in, you’re covered.

Fishing can quite rightly be considered a safe sport, and with the right kind of preparation and safety precautions in place, it is a fantastic activity for even the youngest of children. However, if water is close at hand then so is danger, and it pays to be prepared should an accident happen. Insure4sport offers comprehensive individual, coach and team insurance for anglers.

Why do you need a specialist Angling Insurance policy?

For many anglers, fishing is a satisfying pastime; you’re more of a catch-and-release kind of angler. For others, like match anglers, it’s much more about the competition. But no matter what type of angler you are, a specialised fishing insurance policy could be an important catch for you.

It’s highly likely that you’ve invested a significant amount of money on your angling equipment over the years, and gathered quite an array of rods, reels, lures, baits and flies in your tackle box.

So to simply have this collection stolen from you could be devastating. Sadly it does happen, as sheds, garages and your vehicle are places the opportunist thief may look in to find your gear. A lot of people seem to think their fishing equipment will be covered under their household contents policy; in most cases this is not true. And if you are covered under a household policy, a claim will likely raise your household contents premium.

In addition to covering you against theft, angling insurance can also protect you against damage to your equipment. Unfortunately this can happen all too easily around wet surfaces and claims following slips which have resulted in a snapped pole are common.

For complete peace of mind it makes sense to take out specialist angling insurance cover.

Get your instant fishing and angling insurance quote today and start enjoying peace of mind.

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro

2 Comments · Posted by Alex Smirnov in Cities , Travel , Video

The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.

The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.

Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.

The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.
