Each year, over 400 teams and their families take part in our youth and mini rugby festivals—and you really don’t want to miss out on all the fun! We’ve chosen the best locations to ensure that there is plenty to do when you’re off the pitch.

Whether played in the UK or Europe, our festivals are organised at the optimal time of year with feedback from our UK teams to ensure that what we offer is as good as it can be.

Our UK rugby festivals run on weekends from April through to July in seaside locations across the UK. With matches played for half the day on Saturday and half the day on Sunday, there is plenty of time to explore the area, enjoy the on-site entertainment and have some fun with your teammates, friends, and family.

European rugby festivals take place in the spring and summer, and we have hand-picked some of the best and favourite with UK teams. Not only will you get the exciting challenge of playing against international opposition, but you’ll get to experience a new culture and enjoy a holiday at the same time – what’s not to love about that?

The gauntlet has been emphatically thrown down as an abundance of countries awaits your team in the UK, Europe, and the rest of the world in this most traditional of touring sports.

Our rugby tours portfolio — developed alongside former England and Lions pro, Tim Stimpson — spans a variety of worldwide destinations, but remains equally focussed on locales that deliver excellence in both sportive and memorable travel experiences. From the neighbouring Irish counties to the glistening coasts in Fiji, right through to the fiercest competition any team could arguably face in sunny New Zealand, we’ve spent a great amount of care putting together amazing packages for rugby teams across all skill levels and age groups.

Meanwhile, our base of operations in the Basque Country makes challenging, competitive fixtures just a stone’s throw away. Often cited as the heartland of rugby, the standard of play is extremely high here — boasting France’s  Aviron Bayonnais and Biarritz Olympique as chief rivals in the region — and serves as the ideal base for touring teams looking to test their resolve on both sides of the Spanish and French border.  Teams can also prepare for the rigours of the season with a productive stay at one of our Basque Country pre-season rugby camps.

Wherever you decide to travel, all our rugby tours are expertly coordinated to combine focused training with competitive play, as well as giving teams the chance to immerse themselves in the local sights, attractions, and culture.

Nelson RFC are returning for their next big tour with us in 2022.  Back in 2018, the Unicorns embarked on a tour of Ontario, Canada with us. After missing out on their tour to Malta in summer 2020, they have gone even bigger. The club have given themselves something to look forward to by booking their next tour with us to the Deep South, USA.

In February half term 2020, Rhondda Schools Rugby , coached by former Wales international, Neil Boobyer, headed over to our European base in the Basque Country to test themselves against some of the toughest opposition in the region – including Top 14 academy team, Aviron Bayonnais. The team also enjoyed some surfing and experience the unique Basque culture.

In 2017, the boys and staff at Tonbridge School joined us for a  week of pre-season prep at one of our training camps in the Basque Country . During their seven-day trip, headed up by ex-Wales rugby player Ben Broster, the boys received expert coaching in between some challenging local matches.

3 nights accommodation in a choice of holiday park or hotel.

Each person staying at the holiday park will receive an entertainment pass that can be used to access all on-site entertainment.

Tour Intinerary

This is how your weekend is structured:.

Your executive coach will pick you up from your club for transfer to Holland. Cross on the channel crossing from Dover / Folkestone to Calais via Ferry or Euro Tunnel. You will then be transferred to your chosen tour accommodation. Settle in to your accommodation, spending the night at your leisure.

Optional friendly fixture day. You will be transferred from your accommodation to the a local rugby club, enjoy a great morning of rugby and sample superb Dutch hospitality. Why not take in an optional excursion? Ask the miTour team for some ideas.

Festival Day. You will be transferred from your accommodation to the Hilversum International Rugby Tournament for tournament day! Follwoing a full day of exciting rugby and superb hospitality where you will have the opportunity to mix with teams from all over Europe, enjoying the social side aswell as the rugby you will return to your accommodation base where the evening will again be at your leisure.

You will check out of your accommodation for return journey to Calais and your respective crossing. On arrival in the UK you will transfer to your rugby club.

We’re delighted to be returning to Butlin’s award winning resort on the South Coast in 2024 to stage the Tigers Challenge. Butlin’s resort is booked exclusively for the festival, meaning around 175 mini and junior rugby teams from all over the UK will be taking part in the event.

The Tigers Challenge combines a professionally organised rugby festival for U7 - U12 teams and U12 & U14 girls teams, with superb touring facilities and accommodation options at Butlin’s resort in Bognor Regis. If you’re looking for a action-packed tour, there’s nowhere better than Butlin’s! The Bognor Regis Resort has a fantastic range of facilities for everyone to enjoy.

Butlin’s £40 million swimming pool complex includes flumes, Helter Skelter and Stick of Rock slides, a wave pool and Pleasure Garden river rapids – your children are going to love it! There’s also the Funfair with free rides, which is another firm favourite for our teams. For extra thrills, you can pay a small charge for activities like the High Ropes course with Climbing Wall and Zip Wire, Go Karts, Adventure Golf and Ten Pin Bowling.

When the evening comes around, there’s a great variety of live shows, tribute acts, live bands and discos, so your party will enjoy an amazing family entertainment programme, at no extra cost!

DAY 1, FRIDAY – ARRIVAL DAY: No rugby is played on the day of arrival. Accommodation units should be available from 4pm – Butlin’s will confirm your check in time prior to your break. Guests can arrive on resort from 1pm and use the facilities at Butlin’s. There will be a full evening entertainment programme on the Friday. Our welcome meeting for coaches will take place on Friday evening at around 8pm.

DAYS 2 & 3, SATURDAY & SUNDAY: All teams will participate in festivals that take place on both the Saturday & Sunday. Each Age Grade will be organised in accordance with the RFU guidelines. The event format may vary depending on the number of teams registered in each Age Grade.

The celebrity presentation ceremony will take place on the Sunday evening. Teams are welcome to travel home on the Sunday evening after the presentation, or Monday morning.

DAY 4, MONDAY – DEPARTURE DAY: Check out of accommodation is 10.00am but you do not have to leave the resort until Midday.

AGE QUALIFICATION DATES

Consideration will be given to official dispensation where held under RFU Regulation 15. However this is at the discretion of the Organisers and subject to specific Tigers Challenge Rules. Please contact ESF Events for further details if required.

We would advise International teams from Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland and other countries to read RFU Regulation 15 carefully, so that you are aware of the Age Grade regulations of the RFU. As the Tigers Challenge is an RFU approved festival, the festival is played in accordance with the RFU regulations and subject to Tigers Challenge Rules.

PLEASE NOTE: As per RFU guidelines, mixed teams of boys and girls are not permitted in the U12 age sections. Therefore, girls cannot compete in the U12 boys age sections, and boys cannot compete in the U12 Girls and U14 Girls age sections at the 2024 Tigers Challenge in Bognor Regis.

TIGERS CHALLENGE WRISTBANDS

Each guest who has booked accommodation through ESF Events will receive a Tigers Challenge wristband when they check in at Butlin’s. Please be aware that the ESF Events wristband is required to participate in the festival, attend the presentation ceremony and enter evening entertainment venues at Butlin’s.

IMPORTANT: Accommodation for your whole party, including players, families, managers and supporters, must be booked through ESF Events. If members of your party do not book their accommodation through ESF Events, the team will not be permitted to participate in the Tigers Challenge. The only exception to this is ‘local’ teams who are invited to participate in the festival to ensure the best possible format in each age group.

TEAM ENTRY FEES There are no Team Entry Fees to enter the Tigers Challenge. All costs involved with staging the festival are included in the accommodation charges. As such, it is a condition of entry to the festival that all members of your touring party (players, coaches, officials, family members etc.), book accommodation through ESF Events.

General Rugby Festival Information

Your accommodation will be at one of the Holiday Parks we use in South Devon or just over the border in Cornwall, and will provide an excellent base for like minded rugby people enjoying a fantastic rugby weekend over the popular May Bank Holiday weekend; allowing you to maximise your time on tour!

There is plenty to do to at the Holiday Park with onsite activities such as an adventure playground, crazy golf, kids’ club and swimming pool and this is all available to keep you entertained away from the rugby field and add to the weekend’s fun. 

After dark, enjoy an action packed onsite entertainment programme and enjoy a drink as the sun goes down.

The surrounding area has plenty to explore as the holiday parks are located within a few miles of some of the UK’s best beaches such as Looe as well as picturesque coastal villages such as Polperro. Not to mention that the area is rated one of the highest for outstanding natural beauty.

The weekend’s rugby will provide your players with a fun and inclusive festival where they can test their rugby skills against new opposition in a festival format that provides the maximum amount of rugby for any one day in line with RFU guidelines.

This itinerary is appropriate for teams aged U7 – U15.

Your Rugby Tour Itinerary

Friday 3rd May 2024

You will depart at your leisure and make your way to your accommodation where on arrival you will be able to make use of the onsite facilities; such as the pool.  That evening your team can enjoy the onsite entertainment programme. If you are looking for pre-planned meal options, why not arrange for the accommodation to provide a BBQ for you and your group to enjoy! 

Saturday 4th May 2024

The junior age groups (U13 – U15) will depart their accommodation and make their way to the rugby festival!

The minis age groups (U7 – U12) will have free time to take advantage of the holiday park facilities, enjoy a light training session on the nearby beach or visit one of the many excellent activities available in the local area, such as the Eden Project, which offers the longest zip wire in England!

In the afternoon you may wish to visit Looe Harbour which is one of the most picturesque fishing villages in Cornwall. 

Boats provide fishing trips from the harbour, as well as pleasure cruises around Looe island, the bay and the river.

After a fun day you will have the chance to enjoy the park’s evening entertainment with a range of shows and music. Our Holiday Parks offer fantastic entertainment complexes full of big screens, sparkling costumes and spectacular choreography to entertain you after dark, with special guest Be Here Now at this years event, an Oasis tribute band! If you are looking for something a little more relaxed why not enjoy some drinks on the terrace while the children enjoy the open spaces and multisport court.

Sunday 5th May 2024

The minis age groups will depart from your accommodation in the morning  for an exciting day of festival rugby!

Whilst the Junior will have their free day to enjoy some adrenaline filled activities such as the zip wire, or make use of the holiday parks facilities.

After the rugby / activity you will make your way back to the park to enjoy the evening entertainment or run a tour court.

Monday 6th May 2024

What a way to enjoy the Bank Holiday where you will have the morning to enjoy the Park’s facilities, or explore one of the local beaches, before making your way home from a fantastic weekend of rugby.

Another fantastic tour. This was the second year Esher toured with Burleigh Travel and we have had another fantastic time. We played in North Cornwall and participated in the Big Devon Bash. The festival itself was well organised and all the boys enjoyed playing the other teams. We stayed at Trelawne Manor Holiday Park and had a great time. From start to finish the Burleigh Travel team were fantastic in all elements of communication, organisation and coordination on behalf of our U15's Rugby Team who stayed at South Bay Holiday Park, Brixham and participated in the Big Devon Bash 2023. The accommodation was excellent and event ran smoothly on the day. It was great to also meet some of the Burleigh team who were very hands on the day of the tournament. Thanks to Ivybridge RFC for hosting. Would highly recommend the team for future tour bookings and believe a large number of our M&J section are considering for 2024. Great service, thank you again.

Croesyceiliog RFC U15, The Big Devon Rugby Bash (April 2023)

We have just returned from a Bank Holiday weekend away on rugby tour and it was a fantastic experience for the whole family! The quality of the accommodation and site was perfect, entertainment, a takeaway restaurant, a lovely park and pool and lots of open green space for the children to play. The tournament its self was very well organised and the boys had a fabulous time. We'll be buzzing for weeks and will definitely use Burleigh Travel again.
