Customer Reviews

Previous feedback.

Comments: I am trying this in my Volkl V-Sense 4 at 43.5 pounds. It feels really good and there is no "launch" problem at this low tension. For the price, it's a really good option for an oversize racquet. From: Mike, 11/12/18

Comments: As so many of the reviews have stated, this is indeed a sleeper poly and just a phenomenal string in my opinion. I have used it in my mids (Volkl PB 10 mid, Becker mid) at 56-57 lbs and now in my Babolat Pure Strike Tour/Vcore Duel G 330 at 53 lbs. There is some tension loss because it is a soft poly but once it stabilizes it's a great, comfortable, all around string with power, spin and touch. No arm issues whatsoever with the red version in both 17 and 18 gauge. My son now uses the 18g and loves it too. From: Partha, 9/28/18

Comments: I play with Volkl Cyclone 18 at 53 lbs currently. Thinking of trying this as it's rated softer and I have a bit of an wrist and elbow problem at the moment. As this is considered to be a more powerful string can anyone guide me on how much to string this at to get a similar feel to my current setup. From: Tariq, 9/15/18

Comments: I have used lots of co-poly strings, usually 17 or 18 gauge. Regular Cyclone 18 offers great spin, but I could feel it a bit in my elbow. I decided to try the Cyclone Tour 18, but was concerned that it would be too soft and lose tension. I added 4 lbs to my normal tension taking it to 50 lbs. I have played three times and I very happy with it. Zero pain, lots of spin and good feel. I am not a big string breaker and use spin and location to win points. This works for me. From: Mike, 7/25/17

Comments: This Cyclone Tour is the ultimate sleeeper poly. At first I strung it at 52/55 lbs and didn't like it. After that, I strung it at 54/55 lbs and wow it's awesome! From: Justin, 5/17/17

Comments: This is the sleeper of all polys if you are looking for feel, spin potential, easy on the arm, and value. Buy a set and try it even if you are reluctant to use "stiff" poly. A full set is fine. A hybrid with Gosen Micro Sheep 18 g is scary good. I am rated a 4.5 and am a 68 year old male. From: Jose, 1/17

Comments: This string plays amazing if you string it between 45-55 lbs. I have it set in 3 Wilson Blade 98s at 53 lbs each (the 2013 model) and the spin potential is unreal. The durability is also great and considering I live on the island of Molokai all the way in Hawaii, that's saying something. I switched over to this from RPM Blast, due to better comfort, and just as much spin potential and durability while saving your wallet a whole extra 8 bucks per set. A definite win! From: Kaipoi, 6/15

Comments: I've been using Volkl Cyclone 18 for 6 months and I really liked it. When I heard that Volkl Cyclone Tour was softer and has more power, I wanted to give it a try. The Tour version is softer but it doesn't last as long as the original. The original version lasts me about a month. The first time I used it, I strung this in the mains and used Gosen OG sheep as a cross and it only lasted 2 weeks. So I tried using this string for mains and crosses, and it lasted me a match. It's a great poly and very comfortable, but if you are frequent string breaker, I would suggest going with a thicker string. From: Chris, 4/15

Comments: Excellent string! My previous favorite was Tecnifibre Black Code 18. I liked how Tecnifibre Razor Code 18 played a bit better, but it was also harsher on my arm. Volkl Cyclone Tour 18 has the crispness and power of Razor Code plus the softness of Black Code with even better feel. I hybrid this with Forten Sweet 17. From: Ron, 11/13

Comments: Lots of spin and power, but quick tension drop. From: Marty, 5/13

Comments: Using this on a 16x18 6.1 95 Amplifeel and Donnay Pro One 16x19. The string does give excellent spin and power. The feel is a bit above average for co-poly. I string it @ 40-43 lbs in the mains and 36-40 lbs in the crosses. It works pretty well for an all court game like mine. I do have a bit of problem with drop and angled volleys but that's more due to the tension than the string. The durability is excellent for 18g. I play about 6 hrs a week of doubles. My NTRP rating is 5.5 level and this string survived for a month. Playability left after the 12th hour. From: Drew, 2/13

Comments: Great string, but 18 gauge on this string was way too thin for me. I felt like I was hitting with thread. From: Brendan, 1/13

Comments: I played with the original Cyclone for many months before Volkl came out with this new variation. I would call this string an improvement overall. It is softer with a lot more pop. I took the advice of the Tennis Warehouse testers and strung it a few pounds higher than my normal tension. If you play with a tight string bed, as I do (Head Microgel Radical MP 18 x20), I recommend the 18 gauge. The feel is amazing and I am not getting any negative vibration or arm pain. It simply does not feel much like a poly. The durability is excellent even when you hit a heavy ball. This string is now my string of choice. From: Joshua, 1/13

Red vs anthracite. Any difference in performance between the two?

CopolyX

Hall of Fame

string them up both on the same frame. blind fold yourself. hit like 100 balls... let us now... but really difference on colors it really subjective. also if I tell you the anthracite plays firmer, what are going to do and does that get in your head.... from most of my tests (RDC/ERTs) i have them pretty damn close. I have also seen the the same color and the same guage vary slightly mirroring the same results. Some can say, different dyes used with cause a difference ( stiffness). I say sure maybe... But for me it is the sum of the overall process....quality of the process... http://www.tennisindustrymag.com/articles/2011/03/how_synthetic_strings_are_made.html Also don't you think marketing would be all over this... Want a bit more arm friendliness....use the Red! Maximum, try our translucent or white string....

rooski

Professional

I've tried both in a FB and TBH...this particular string is just way too soft, too powerful, and looses tension way too fast in the 18g version. I was a long time VCT 16g user (FB Prestige Pro at 50) and that string is wonderful. The red somehow feels a little softer to me. In the 18g I couldn't really tell the difference between colors. They were just just ridiculously soft and launchy even at 52 lbs. Maybe they would be better at higher tensions. I don't know. I would probably only recommend the VCT 18 to lower level players looking to join the poly world with a powerful arm friendly string. If you must use 18g then try the regular Cyclone before the CT.

brooker

I tried the string (full-bed) with both colors and did not notice any difference. I stopped using them; however, because of quick tension loss.

Thanks for the feedback.

what soft polies do you use that have better/less tension loss?

Dandow93

  • Jun 20, 2018

Maybe cream?

g4driver

Don't use 1.25mm or 1.20mm Cyclone Tour. Posted on this forum many times about the dramatic differences between Cyclone Tour 1.30mm vs 1.25mm. The fact they sell 1.20mm Cyclone Tour is proof you can sell ice to an Eskimo. Cyclone Tour shouldn't be made in any gauge other than 1.30mm and larger. It simply doesn't hold tension at 1.25mm and smaller more than 6 hours. Been using 1.30mm Cyclone Tour for 5 years and have more USTA rated 4.5 men using it than any string in my inventory of a dozen plus polys.

Volkl Cyclone 18/1.20 String

We will match or beat any posted overall price advertised in-store or online on in stock items.

Spin! Spin! Spin! Volkl Cyclone's gear shape and excellent pocketing make it a spin machine. It's also surprisingly comfortable for a firm control string. Powerful baseliners who like to hit with heavy spin will love this one. Given the combination of spin, control and overall playability, Cyclone is one of the best values in its class.

Previous feedback  .

Comments: After a long break from tennis, I started to use the orange string as the mains in a hybrid setup, and I have not been disappointed. 16 gauge RPM Blast used to be my string of choice, but now it feels a bit too stiff for me as I get back into the swing of things. 18 gauge Cyclone is cheaper alternative that plays very similarly, but is also softer on my arm. Though, one thing I noticed is that it takes a little while for the strings to settle. They either feel a little too lively or too dead for about the first 15-30 minutes of playing before hitting their sweet spot for me. Other than that, my experience with the string is excellent, and it tends to feel better for me the longer I play with it, I string it in the high 40 pound range in the mains of a hybrid setup. I was a constant string breaker before my time away from tennis so playing with anything other than polyester strings tends to get very expensive for me, and having a history of tennis elbow problems really limits my string choices. The orange 18 gauge Cyclone hits a good place for me where it's not only more durable than multifilaments, but also softer on the arm than most other 16 gauge and 17 gauge polyester strings. The added spin and control is an added bonus that complements my playing style well, heavy-hitting baseliner. I'd definitely recommend trying out Volkl Cyclone even if it's not something normally in your wheelhouse. From: Aaron, 7/22/20

Comments: This string is great for the first two hours but then it feels like a trampoline. I pre-stretched the string the second time using it and still got the same result. I've read some comments that the color makes a difference which is interesting to me. I have been stringing with the yellow, I may try the orange after some of the other feedback. Also, I have a strung up in a Yonex DR 100 which has a 16x19 string pattern. The 18 gauge may just be not right for this frame, perhaps the 17g might be better. The very quick tension loss just caught me by surprise considering all the positive things stated about the string. Again, first two hours -- it's amazing! From: Chris, 4/10/17

Comments: I strung this (as a full bed) in my two Dunlop 300G (57RA) 105s with 18x20 pattern at 57 lbs. This is one of the more powerful polys I have tried and was concerned it would turn my OS racquet into a missile launcher. I'm pleased to report that this orange colored string works great in an 18x20 pattern. I think I might loose some control if I was playing a 16x19. The launch angle was higher than other polys which works for me. Good spin, good power, great pocketing, very good feel. No arm or shoulder issues. At first hit, the string feels a bit harsh, but after ten minutes of beating hard groundies on a ball machine, the sweetspot settled in and I get great pocketing. Subsequent outings feel very consistent for up to three weeks. You'll know when it's time to cut it out. Great price point. From: Mark, 3/30/17

Comments: My 12 year old tried this string at 53 lbs (open pattern racquet), after just 20 minutes of hitting, she complained about a funny sensation in the elbow, not painful, but she knew the string was not for her. She plays tournaments regularly and we are looking to find something best for comfort/spin/durability/power (in that order of preferences), She's been using "Sensation" for a couple years now (good comfort, but not easy to generate heavy spins). Might try to lower the tension to 49 lbs to see if that makes a difference. From: App, 12/16

Comments: I have used various polyester strings for about 10 years. I am 60 and have to protect my elbow, so the tension keeps going down and the gauge gets thinner. This time it was Cyclone 18 at 45 lbs. in an old Volkl Quantum V1. It feels good and I can generate heavy topspin that my opponents comment on. Last night, I hit several deep shots that dropped in, even though I thought that I had hit them long. I feel that I have a advantage using this string. Very nice. Keep the tension low on polyester string and it works much better. From: Mike, 10/16

Comments: I tried this string with hopes it would be similar to Luxilon Big Banger Ace 18g just to save some money. But it was a completely different string. It's stiff, with no power and average spin. Lux Ace is much, much better -- more spin, more comfort. Unfortunately it lasted me only 1.5 hours in a 16x20 Prince. Cyclone might last longer, but in my opinion it is a terrible string. From: Martin, 4/16

Comments: I also tried different colors of Cyclone 18g. I totally agree with M, that orange 18g and pink 18g are the best power and comfort-wise. Black 18g is very stiff and dead-feeling, which is not for me. Orange and pink 18g doesn't lose its liveliness after 20+ hours of hitting, they simply don't feel dead when they get a little looser. I strung it in a Head Microgel Prestige Pro at 45 lbs in the mains with Forten Sweet 17g at 53 lbs in the crosses. From: C, 5/15

Comments: I tried this string for about 3 weeks. The string was very stiff, spin was fine and the power was low. I don't recommed this string -- for those who love spin and power, I would recommend Tecnifibre Razor code 17 gauge. From: Anon, 4/15

Comments: I have been trying various strings in a hunt for a new reel of poly mains, since I've run into shoulder problems over the past year. Most recently, I've tried Cyclone 18g in both pink and orange, Kirschbaum Super Smash Orange 17g, and Tourna Big Hitter Black Zone 17. Super Smash Orange I found to be too stiff, causing some shoulder pain, but otherwise a great string and Black Zone was just way too lively for me. Cyclone in both pink and orange have been my favorites thus far, as I've tried them in yellow (too lively) and black (too stiff) in the past. I've found pink to be on the lively side as well, much like the yellow color, but the orange seems to produce the power and spin you put into it, which is exactly what I'm looking for. It has less pop than pink and a little less control than black, but has yet to cause me any kind of shoulder irritation whatsoever. Overall, my findings for:power: pink > orange > blackcontrol: black > orange > pinkcomfort: orange > pink > blackspin: orange > pink > blackI wish I could include yellow in the mix, but I don't remember exactly how it compares to the other 3 colors, but I'd say they are very similar to pink, if memory serves me correctly. I just thought I would give my findings on the colors from personal experience, and thought I'd note the differences between pink and orange are slight. In all honesty, black is my favorite of the 3, but I can't use it because of my shoulder. I suggest trying a set of each, strung identically to see which is your preferred color.Strung in my Head Youtek IG Radical Pro at 46 lbs (mains) and I'm a NTRP level 4.0/4.5 player. From: M, 2/15

Comments: Strung the black color at 52 lbs in a Head Prestige YouTek IG Mid (93 square inches; 18x20) -- it was absolutely fantastic! Razor like slices, incredible angles, and no shoulder irritation (often attributed to poly strings). Tried V-Star in the same racquet at 53 lbs. After a few hours/days it dramatically changed. Cyclone is an under the radar effective string. Simply fantastic! From: Rob, 11/14

Comments: This is the first string where I actually noticed a pronounced difference in spin production. I had been using various polys. Also, the string movement was minimal up until it broke. This is in a 16x20 frame. Feel is ok, nothing like gut, but when all is said and done this string has better control, it enables me to take a harder swing at the ball and still land in. That fact is important to me psychologically as with gut in the frame the worry will inhibit me to an extant. Going to test out Kirschbuam Spiky Shark yellow next! From: Tyko, 9/14

Comments: A word about the color diference here -- I was using the yellow version of this string, then tried the orange. The orange felt less springy with better control. So, even though they claim to be the same string, there is a difference. This was confirmed by the Volkl rep here. From: Johnny, 8/14

Comments: I strung this at 48 lbs and the spin was impressive at first but I've had a few arm pains since. I'll be going back to RPM Blast as I've never had problems with that. If you can handle something a bit stiffer, I would recommend this because it's such a good price on TW compared to the RPM. From: Tom, 8/14

Comments: I have this in a Wilson K Six.One 95 at 45 lbs and love it! Freshly strung, it feels great -- I am able to maintain reasonable control (at that tension), increased power, and boat loads of spin! If you are a club player, do not disregard this 18 gauge string. Try it, you'll like it! From: Rob, 6/14

Comments: I have been a big fan of the spin and control of the Dunlop Black Widow strings. They allowed me to improve my game so much that several of my teammates have switched to it because they saw what it did for my game. Now, after trying the Cyclone and Cyclone Tour, I found that I get extra power. Not as much spin as the Dunlop Black Widow, but still more than enough. I am now hitting the ball deeper in the court without having to change my strokes, which has helped my confidence in matches. In my serves, I am seeing 4-6 mph speed improvement over the Dunlop Black Widow strings. Even my coach noticed a change in my game that he looked at match video and noticed my stokes didn't change, but I now have the spin, control and power that fits my game. Volki Strings with my Babolat Pure Drive racquet is a great combo. From: Joseph, 5/14

Comments: Been using Cyclone 18 since it came out. Full bed and I love it -- it's hard to beat for the price and performance! All the features of RPM Blast except that it lasts longer and costs half the price! From: Willard, 3/14

Comments: Control and spin -- 2 words to describe this string. I get so much control by just putting the string in the mains. I will be switching to a full bed of this string soon. From: Hari, 2/14

Comments: Strung at 54 lbs in the Biomimetic 200 Plus. Compared to my previous strings, Genesis Typhoon, Volkl Cyclone does generate the level of spin and power as the Typhoon string but more than compensates for that with slightly improved control, comfort and feel. When it comes to shot placement or directional control, Volkl Cyclone strings are outstanding. I am sending opponents to the far corners of the court more often than before especially on serves. I think the Cyclone strings would suit an all court player more than an out and out baseliner because the power is a tad low and the strings are good for drop-shots and touch volleys. From: Joe, 11/13

Comments: Wow! I've hit with many different polys over the years from brands such as Prince, Luxilon, Genesis, Topspin, Gamma, etc. I've recently switched over from Adrenaline and must say I'm very pleased. This string is very responsive, has great spin potential, is soft on the arm, and seems fairly durable for an 18g string. I haven't noticed any huge drop in tension, and think this will be my go-to string for quite some time! From: Nick, 9/13

Comments: This is a great string because the combination of power, spin and tension maintenance is great. I have a string gauge and this string loses a couple of pounds at the beginning and than stays the same until it breaks. If you have an 18x20 string pattern try this string. I'm an all-court 5.5 player. From: Marty, 9/13

Comments: I just tried both Cyclone 18 and the MSV Hex 1.10. I strung both on my Pure Storm Tour at 50 lbs with a syn gut at 55 lbs in the crosses. Cyclone seemed to perform better than the MSV but I think the MSV needs to be strung tighter than 50 lbs because it is a lot more elastic. From: Alan, 8/13

Comments: The biggest issue with these strings is the tension retention or lack of it. I think it is the worst poly in this regard that I have tried. Tension drops significantly over the first few hours and within days it has dropped so much you have to cut them out and start over. I did try a hybrid (syn gut in crosses) to help with this, but this didnt help either. Great bite from the 18 gauge, great price at $8, but doesn't retain tension long enough to make it worth it. From: CF, 6/13

Comments: Fantastic strings. Used the Tourna Blue Rough before and loved those, but these are much better. Strung on Dunlop 4D 300 Tour at 52 lbs. They go dead after 8 hours max. Not sure if that's expected. From: Nik, 3/13

Comments: I absolutely love these strings. I originally tested it in a Head Youtek Prestige Mid and chose it over my usual (back then) Pro Line II 18. I went on to try other strings but something always brought me back to Volkl Cyclone. After I switched to the Yonex V-Core Tour 89, I automatically knew I had to have Volkl Cyclone 18 on them. I never looked back. The strings play amazingly. For a thin string they are very durable. I have yet to pop a set of cyclone. What I like most was the combination of power, control, and most importantly spin. The only string that comes close to the playability (for me at least) is Kirschbaum Pro Line II 18. But for the price of Cyclone it can't be beat! I don't think I will switch to another string in a long time! From: Duy, 3/13 String tension: 52 lbs

Comments: I have played with the Timo 18 Lux strings in the mains for the last 5 to 7 years, and I loved the crisp feel of those strings and the stiffness, but they quit making reels, so that opened the door for me to try a new string. After trying around 10 polys I was told about the Cyclone 18. It is an extremely soft poly and feels just incredible. I thought I liked the really stiff string but after playing with this (with syn gut in the crosses) I have fallen in love with it. And it holds tension extremely well. It is somewhat similar in feel to the WC Mosquito Bite, but I think this has more pop. And the price, it's an absolute steal. I also liked the RPM Blast, but that's a little stiffer, doesn't hold tension quite as well, and is double the price. If you like polys, you absolutely must try this string. From: Brian, 2/13

Comments: I love this string on a hybrid set up. I tried this string on the crosses at first to see how well it worked with my BLX Juice 108 along with the Volkl Classic syn gut 18g on the mains. While it felt good I didn't get the heavy topspin I was looking for using this configuration, so I tried the Cyclone on the mains and it felt very responsive producing massive spin! I also lowered the tension from 50 down to 49 on the mains and 54 on the Classic synthetic crosses. Overall, I was very pleased with the results and there was no break-in period at all. From: Ferdie, 11/12

Comments: I started to play with full poly 20 years ago with KirschbaumSuperSmash. The next step was SuperSmash Spiky. After that, MSV Focus Hex 18g was another step forward (more comfort, no string movement) and now Volkl Cyclone 18g is even better. Nice feel, power, tension holds well and the main thing for me it doesn't shrink in cold weather! From: Jan, 9/12

Comments: I was really surprised by how soft (in a good way) this string is. In my quest for improved control and greater spin without sacrificing power, I've tried several thin-gauge Luxilon strings, and although they improve control, they reduce power too much. They also feel tinny and brittle, causing unpleasant vibration in my wrist and arm. The Volkl Cyclone 18g is like a big comfy down pillow in comparison, right from the very first swing. No break-in required. I get quite a lot of pace and depth without any trampoline effect. It also seems to enlarge the sweet spot, so even off-center hits travel cleanly off the frame and cause no inordinate arm vibration or jarring. My former go-to string was Genesis Twisted Razor, but this is a bit softer and costs less. Why pay more for less? Volkl offers a great price on a great string. From: John, 9/12

Tour Itinerary

With the 1000-year history, Russia has had a rich portfolio of conflicts, battles, wars. On this Soviet tour, we'll talk about various wars that happened in Russia, focusing on WWII.

Mother Russia has undergone a lot in its long life. Since ancient times, Russian rulers have taken nearly all political power into their own hands. By the beginning of the 20th century, the Russian oppositional movement was deadly set for the total destruction of the ever-lasting tsarist regime. All of Russia got involved in the bloody revolution of 1917 in an effort to abolish the current state of the government and gain freedom for the ordinary people.

You will learn about the every-day life of the Soviet people during the bloody Second World War with the Nazis, including the legendary Battle for Moscow, the 900-day siege of Leningrad, the hardships that local citizens went through, the consequences of the war and the scars it left on the Soviet people, as well as why the Cold War happened and what was the fundamental reason.

Our mission on the Soviet Russia tour is to find out

  • - How much this 1917 revolution cost the people;
  • - Whether they actually got the freedom they wanted and was it worth it;
  • - What happened over the next 74 years;
  • - Who were the main political communist leaders of the Soviet Union;
  • - Were Russians happy and satisfied with the Soviet Union?

Our tour itinerary will lie in most Soviet areas of Moscow, which are quite spread throughout the city, as very few of them are left. You can choose how much you are ready to live this Soviet life on a 5, 7 or 10-hour tour. Depending on the duration of the tour, you will see part or all of the places below:

If you want to extend the tour, you are welcome to do so by paying $20/extra hour in cash on the tour.

Time stands still in Red Square. The Red Square is the heart of Moscow (and whole Russia). Saint Basil's Cathedral will make your mouth drop. If it is from May-October, have a cocktail on the outside terrace and simply people watch! The massive square offers so much to enjoy.

Lenin's Mausoleum

The burial place of one of the most influential communist leaders in the world.

Revolution Square Metro Station

Rub the Soviet dog's nose for good luck and admire the 76 bronze sculptures, devoted to the passionate, strong-willed and patriotic Soviet people.

Poklonnaya Hill

The highest point in Moscow, where Napoleon waited for keys of the city.

All-Russian Exhibition Center (VVC)

With its giant arch, amazing fountain, and huge pavilions of different Soviet Republics.

Victory Park Metro Station

The deepest undeground station in Moscow and one of the deepest in the world.

Victory Park

For an open-air museum as big as 135 ha (1 350 000 square meters), Victory park sure doens't lack diversity. The park is dedicated to the Russian victory in WWII, and was laid out in 1995 in commemoration of 50-year anniversary of victory.

Stalin had planned for its construction already in 1941, being sure of victory from the very start of the war.

Greeting Hill

The highest points in Moscow (172 meters), where Napoleon waited for keys of Moscow in vain.

Triumphal Arch

Stunning monument consisting of 12 cast-iron columns, each 12 meters high, and weighing 16 tons. Built to mark Russia's victory over Napoleon in 1812.

Museum of the Great Patriotic War

In the city that is as much about wars as it is about victories, there is one essential stopover - the Museum of the Great Patriotic War (that's what WWII is called in Russia). Must-do for those wishing to understand Russia's past and look at the whole war from the different perspective - Russian.

The museum is not for the faint-hearted. Here you can see films about the partisan experience, the scenes that will haunt you forever (no subtitles, but they are not necessary).

Museum of Contemporary History (from outside only)

We'll have a glance at Russian life of the XX century in the  Museum of Contemporary History , which houses bits of everything from Russian history of XXth century: from English club to a storage of Stalin's presents.
