Chapter 28: e-HRM Application in Tourism and Hospitality in Sinai of Egypt Abstract The emergence of e-HRM in tourism and hospitality industry in Sinai of Egypt depicts the challenges in competency, performance and compensation associated with progressing the human resource function towards handling the effective managerial decisions. The emergence leads to a variety of investment vehicles evolving a competitive and user friendly tool which is available for anytime, anywhere access. Thus, the delicate situations of dependency on person-based decision-making, which is highly pervasive on memory and mood consistencies for making judgements are regularised and facilitated by data. Thus, puzzles and mathematical reliance on human-based sincerities are delinked and merged to machine-based delivery, subjected to auditing at varied levels of inputs and alerts. Many intuitive, heuristics and biases that deviate the rationalisation of decision-making process are leveraged and captured continuously so that various possibilities can be formed as an algorithm at later stages. These determine the tendency to bond stronger on technology reliability. The competitiveness among decision-makers to tackle situation is completely matched to performance dependent and competency of the resources applied to the activity of deployment. The evolved system is through the stakeholders’ inputs through ‘one-to-one’, ‘one-to-many’ and ‘many-to-one’ of the tour management team, with vital inclusive of the guest responses which make it as an essential connect in the genesis for understanding the market segment for the content knowledge on the guests’ profile, behaviour and preferences expected. Sinai of Egypt is a nice place for tourism, it’s a paradise in offering, with places such as Sharm El Sheikh, Naama Bay, Ras Mohammed National Park, Mount Sinai, St Catherine’s Monastery and Resorts of Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba for travellers to choose a wide range of plush five-star resorts at relatively low prices, with good weather, beyond sea-and-sand. The News media Harteez in the year 2019 had quoted that according to the Egyptian Tourism Ministry, the tourism industry had brought in $12 billion in 2018, which a mere half during the previous year. This potential can be harnessed with the adorable use of technology which can help this industry to reach unlimited geography and bring travel and leisure customers to enjoy the beauty of the creator. Rasoolimanesh, S., Law, R., Buhalis, D. and Cobanoglu, C. (2019), "Guest editorial: Progress on information technology in hospitality and tourism", Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology, Vol. 10 No. 4, pp. 481-488. https://doi.org/10.1108/JHTT-11-2019-143 and special issue https://tinyurl.com/ProgressIT4Tourism Tourism and hospitality areas have been strongly influenced by the rapid development of ICT in the past few decades (Law et al., 2014). The fast development of internet has tremendously revolutionized the tourism and hospitality industries (Buhalis, 2003). Using the internet, Web 1.0, and then Web 2.0/social media environments have effectively connected the travelers and tourists around the world from one hand, and the tourism and hospitality businesses from other hand much more than ever before (Buhalis and Law, 2008). The rapid development and adoption of IT in tourism and hospitality industries influenced the behavior of consumers, such as information search, purchase decision and post-purchase behavior, as well as the suppliers marketing and management approaches (Law et al., 2014). Smart systems can dynamically interconnect all stakeholders and empower a tourism and hospitality ecosystem to support value cocreation for all. Contextual information and real-time services will be driving the future use of cutting edge technology for tourism and hospitality (Buhalis et al., 2015; Buhalis and Leung, 2018; Buhalis and Sinarta, 2019). Because of the important role of IT on the hospitality and tourism development, several studies have reviewed this role. However, most of previous review papers generally focused on the progress of IT in tourism and hospitality areas, and have not focused on specific topics.

The report focuses on some of the digital technologies in tourism and hospitality, namely digital displays, kiosks, mobile applications, smart appliances, intelligent automation, chatbots, biometric technologies, voice-controlled virtual assistants, virtual and augmented reality, drones, robots, and the internet of things. It discusses the scope of technologies and the areas of their application. From the perspective of tourists, it looks at technologies they could use during the pre-trip, trip and port-trip stages of their travel. From the perspective of tourism and hospitality companies, it looks at technologies that could be incorporated in the four functional areas of the companies (operations, human resource management, marketing, and finance) and outlines the role of technology in each of them. The report critically evaluates the factors that determine the choice of a technological solution, namely technology-related, task-related, economic, company-related, customer-related, employee-related, partner-related, competitive, and macroenvironmental factors. Additionally, the report delves deeper into the specific digital technologies and discusses their characteristics, advantages, disadvantages and application in tourism and hospitality context. Finally, a list of exhibitions on digital technologies for tourism and hospitality companies is provided to help managers in their investment decisions.

This chapter introduces mobile technology and discusses its emergence in the tourism industry. As has been the case with other Information Communication Technologies (ICTs), tourism has manifested as one of the most well suited sectors to mobile technology and mobile applications. In contrast to other ICTs in the tourism domain however, mobile applications are capable of enhancing the tourist experience at the destination, creating a paradigm shift in how information is accessed and digested, and transactions performed. Nonetheless, little is known concerning how mobile technologies are changing the landscape of tourism and tourist behaviour and the content offered by tourism applications. In order to address the scarcity of research in this emergent area this paper focuses on mobile applications in the tourism industry and based on a literature survey proposes a framework for evaluating mobile tourism applications.

Law , R., Buhalis , D., Cobanoglu, C., Progress on information and communication technologies in hospitality and tourism, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Volume 26 Issue 5 pp. 727 - 750 The purpose of this paper is to establish the progress of information and communication technology (ICT) based on a review of papers published in tourism and hospitality journals between 2009 and 2013. Based on three major databases, 107 journal papers were retrieved and reviewed. The papers were grouped into two major categories, consumer and supplier, which generally comprise the key players in the industries. A content analysis showed that hospitality and tourism industries use ICT in different functional units and for different applications. This, in turn, indicates their wide adoption in the industry. Industrial implications are discussed. On the basis of the content analysis, industry practitioners can learn about up-to-date practices and decide how to take advantage of recent technological developments. A major contribution of this paper is the comprehensive review of recently published papers in tourism and hospitality journals from the perspectives of consumer and supplier.
