bio tour

This group goes the extra mile to introduce guests to Laguna Grande and the bioluminescent experience, and keep you extra safe. I highly recommend this group if you're a beginner kayaker and are interested in experiencing the bio bay. I also recommend going during a New Moon.

The bay is so beautiful in the dark, and kayaking there through the mangrove channel is unforgettable. These guys are very professional, focused on safety, helpful and nice. They are very knowledgable about wildlife and about bioluminescence of the laguna. Highly recommend Puerto Rico Bio Bay Tours!

As inexperienced kayakers, we felt confident getting into the water, that if anything were to go wrong, it would easily be fixed! It was a clear night, we saw so many stars, and although we visited at a time when the glow wasn't as bright as it can be, we still got to see some definite glow!

Michael and his crew were very knowledgeable, professional and organized. They taught us basic kayak skills so we could maneuver the narrow channel safely. We were informed beforehand that the bioluminescent effect may not be as vibrant as the summer months and unfortunately this was the case but the experience was still very enjoyable. We were never rushed and were encouraged to take our time and enjoy the evening.

All the guys were informative and helpful. Considerate of beginner and advanced kayakers. Highly recommend this company over the others in the area due to their organization and professionalism. Eric was our tour guide he was great and informative of the bioluminescent algae. The bay at night is beautiful and peaceful and the stars were great to gaze. Do not wear sneakers they will get wet!

Bioluminescent Kayak Tour

A night adventure begins with a leisure paddle from Rum Point to the Bioluminescent Bay along a sheltered coastline. Be dazzled by a sky full of stars and awed by the bioluminescence below on the darkest nights of the lunar cycle. Our skilled Naturalists will use a laser pointer to guide you through the constellations, planets, and galaxies! Stargazing is a great way to experience nature, explore science, and ponder history.

Cayman Kayaks, established in 2006, is a family-run business and the original tour operator of Bioluminescent Tours in Grand Cayman. We specialize in providing sustainable Bioluminescent Tours by double kayak and Cayman’s only electric boats. Our top notch guides will lead you through the night, teach you about this natural phenomenon, and the importance of exploring in an environment-friendly manner.

Our guide has a blinking light and guests have a solid light for identification on the water. The kayaks are all sit-on-top with a solid and comfortable backrest for your journey to the bay’s calm water. The low draft of the kayaks makes them easy to maneuver. These kayaks are suitable for all skill levels or lack thereof. It is important that you are comfortable with the water and are capable of swimming. We recommend some paddling experience (kayaking, canoeing, or paddleboarding) to participate in the tour. The guide has a tow rope to help you along if you are coming for the first time and need some guidance.

Come prepared to get wet.

Kayaking is a great way to appreciate Cayman’s Bioluminescence Bay quietly and eco-consciously.

Upcoming Tour Dates:

January 28th – February 13th February 26th – March 13th CLICK HERE for future dates and availability

We schedule our tours around the moon cycle each month, to ensure a quality experience. We only go on the darkest nights of the month! Looking for a future date? Send us an email! [email protected]

What to Wear:

You will get wet while kayaking! Wear attire you feel comfortable to get wet in; swimsuit, t-shirt, and sandals. Leave a towel behind in your vehicle for after the tour.

Is it safe to swim?

You are allowed to swim, but our company discourages swimming to prevent fouling the water and the risk of being stung by jellyfish.

It is a fact that thousands of jellyfish live in the bay year round on the sea bed. These jellyfish have a mild sting, but it may be very uncomfortable when stung depending on the individual and where on their bodies they get stung. There may also be other species of jellyfish with a more potent sting so again, we generally discourage swimming.

However , if you are determined to swim, PLEASE ensure you arrive for the tour free of chemicals/lotions that are not reef safe from your body before the tour. Wearing a long-sleeved rash guard would be a good idea too.

Harmful chemicals/lotions in and on your skin/hair wash off your body and end up trapped in Bio Bay harming the microscopic organisms due to the low water exchange. Since the glowing creatures are trapped in the bay, allowing their glow to increase in number, this also means that if we bring pollution to the bay these pollutants foul the waters and are also trapped. Pollutants trapped in the bay take longer periods of time to be washed out or break down and decompose. Please be respectful to the natural phenomenon.

This ecosystem is fragile!

The Best In Adventure Travel Packages

Bio Bio Expeditions’ roots are grounded in our deep love for the wild rivers and mountains of Chile. We began running trips on the Bio Bio River and named our adventure travel company out of respect for this iconic river and the indigenous people living on its banks. Unfortunately, the Bio Bio River was eventually dammed, so we ventured further south to the Futaleufu River in Chilean Patagonia and chose a most stunning and serene location as the setting for one of the preeminent riverside basecamps on the planet! Our Futaleufu River basecamp continually sets the standard for multi-sport adventure, cuisine, guides and staff, in addition to being a sanctuary to recharge and revitalize yourself. Join us in Patagonia or explore one of our exciting international adventures.

See What Others Had to Say ★★★★★

"My husband and I drove from San Juan for the 8:00 tour. The tour was great, only downside is a few people struggled to steer their kayaks. Made for some good laughs. The lights in the bay are like little firecrackers. I recommend you go early, there are lots interesting restaurants in the same area as the tour departs. There are changing rooms, but they are public restrooms in the park nearby."

"Our kayak trip was amazing! Derek and his crew were fun and informative while keeping everyone safe. The kayak trip through the mangroves was enjoyable on its own but the bioluminescent bay was the icing on the cake! Our tour started and ended on time (we had heard that some tours do not). We will definitely go again!"

"Last night my wife and I did the Biolumenesant experience in Fajardo. The guides were amazing and not only did everyone get a life jacket for safety, but they also got a brief refresher course on how to kayak if you are rusty or a beginner. The three guides were very kind and funny too! We had a great experience and would recommend it to anyone that loves the outdoors!"

"We were a little apprehensive as none of us had any kayaking experience. Nathan and Anthony were great with the instructions and we're extremely helpful and informative throughout the tour. They paid attention to everyone, helping out whenever they saw someone struggling. They were well prepared for the tour . They even had tarps to ensure you get to experience the bioluminescent bay to the fullest. Would definitely recommend them."

Brit Turner of the country rock band Blackberry Smoke dies at 57 after glioblastoma diagnosis

bio tour

Brit Turner , a drummer and founding member of the country rock band Blackberry Smoke , has died. He was 57.

Turner was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a cancer of the brain, in the fall of 2022. His band, who announced his death in a Sunday Instagram post, said he "fought every day" following the diagnosis.

"If you had the privilege of knowing Brit on any level, you know he was the most caring, empathetic, driven and endearing person one could ever hope to meet," the band captioned a graphic featuring a photo of Turner in a blue hat and sunglasses. "Brit was Blackberry Smoke 's True North, the compass that instituted the ideology that will continue to guide this band."

USA TODAY has reached out to Blackberry Smoke and the band's label Rounder Records.

Glioblastoma is an aggressive and fast-growing brain tumor, according to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons . The cancer often occurs more in older adults and men.

Turner founded the Atlanta-based country rock band with bandmates Charlie Starr, Paul Jackson, Brandon Still and Turner's brother, Richard Turner, in 2000.

The band has topped Billboard U.S. and U.K. country album charts with 2015's "Holding All The Roses" and 2016's "Like An Arrow" and charted in the top 10 on rock album charts. The band appeared on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and "Conan."

Fellow musicians shared their condolences after Brit Turner's death in the comments on Instagram, including rock musician Nick Perri, frontman of The Underground Thieves, who said it was the "saddest news in the world" and said the drummer was "so kind and supportive of me and us."

Former SouthGang guitarist and singer-songwriter Butch Walker called Brit Turner his "longtime brother" and said he had been "crying all night" following his death.

Taylor Swift Announces The Eras Tour With Four New Acoustic Songs on Disney+

We all should experience cardigan live at least once in our lives.

taylor swift performing on stage during eras tour

Taylor’s Version of the concert movie will be available on Disney+ . The streaming service does not offer a free trial, so you’ll have to sign up for the basic plan (with ads for $7.99 per month ) or the premium plan (no ads for $13.99 per month ). Disney+ also offers a joint plan with Hulu (either the duo basic or duo premium) or a trio plan with Hulu and ESPN+ (either the trio basic or trio premium). The differences in pricing depend upon your choice of advertisements—or lack thereof.

In October 2023, Swift initially dropped Taylor Swift : The Eras Tour in partnership with AMC Theaters. According to a press release , the film racked up $261.6 million globally—higher than any other concert film or documentary in history, including the former record holder, Michael Jackson’s This Is It . This is also not the first time that Swift has teamed up with Disney+, as Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions was available for streaming in 2020 before the release of her ninth studio album, Evermore . It’s a smart move to drop the latest Eras Tour concert film a few hours ahead of midnight. That way friends and family can watch on the premiere date versus waiting until the next day. Total Duration : Approximately 12 hours

SATURDAY TOUR DETAILS: Saturday’s tour is longer (approximately 1 additional hour) and more strenuous than Sunday – Friday. It’s very important that you are able to comply with all of the tour restrictions, have a strong physical fitness level and are able to bring your knees up to your chest.

Important Note: One of the things that we enjoy the most about our excursions is that every day on the water, in the rainforest, or anywhere in Puerto Rico, it’s a unique experience. Things change according to the weather and season, and as such, our trips may vary slightly from what’s advertised.

On these rare occasions, our tour guides will select the stops and routes they believe will be the most enjoyable for the entire group. At times, this might mean an additional stop, or it might mean one less. For this reason, we encourage you to choose your Puerto Rican adventure based on the rough descriptions provided and trust that we’ll provide you with a wonderful experience, no matter the conditions.

6 Best Bioluminescence Tours In La Parguera Bio Bay, Puerto Rico (2024)

  • Bioluminescent Bays
  • La Parguera Bio Bay

Puerto Rico has three bioluminescent bays.

La Parguera Bioluminescent Bay is the only one you are allowed to swim in.

I first visited this bio bay when I was a child, and I have taken these tours at least a dozen times since.

Below are the 6 best tours in La Parguera:

1. Glass bottom catamaran tour

As the name says, this is a catamaran with a glass bottom.

image of the glass bottom boat

On this tour, you don’t get to swim in the bioluminescent bay.

When you arrive at the bioluminescent bay, the captain briefly explains the bio bay. Then, t hey collect a bucket of water, and you can agitate the water with your hands to activate the bioluminescent organisms.

After that, they send some crew members to swim under the catamaran. As the crew members agitate their arms and legs, you can see how the water starts to illuminate through the glass bottom.

This tour is excellent and inexpensive, perfect for the elderly and younger family members.

You can book this tour with the Fondo de Cristal Tour .

2. Bio bay swimming tour

La Parguera Bioluminescent Bay is the only bio bay in Puerto Rico where you are allowed to swim.

image of 2 girls swimming in La Parguera Bioluminescence Bay

Some tours allow you to get in the water and activate the bioluminescence yourself by moving in the water.

The tour operator will take you on a boat to La Parguera’s Bioluminescent Bay.

You will get a brief explanation of what makes the water glow, and then you will swim in the bio bay, spending about an hour in the water.

This tour is physically demanding, but if you can swim, I highly recommend it.

To book a swimming tour in the bay, visit Parguera Eco Tours.

3. Snorkeling and bioluminescent bay tour

They call this tour the best of both worlds.

image of a guy snorkeling at bio bay

At 4:00 PM, they take you to snorkel some of the best shallow reefs in Parguera. A PADI professional will accompany you on the trip to ensure your safety.

At 6:00, they will serve you Puerto Rican empanadas and your choice of soda or local beer.  After you have eaten, they will take you on a boat to the bioluminescent bay.

At the bio bay , they will provide you with a mask and a snorkel.

This tour lasts half an hour and allows you to experience bioluminescence with an underwater view.

You can book this tour with Paradise Scuba Snorkeling PR .

4. Nightime bio bay kayak tour

If you like kayaking, this is the tour for you.

image of 2 people kayaking at night in Bio Bay

On this tour, they take you to the bioluminescent area on one of the company’s vessels, towing the kayaks with their boat.

The tour operators will provide you with a life vest, a glow stick, and a sound device.

You will be allowed to go in the water and swim in the bioluminescent bay . These tours take two hours from start to finish.

Large families or groups should call in advance for scheduling purposes.

To book this tour, go to the Parguera Water Sports website.

5. Private bioluminescence tour

Do you want to experience La Parguera’s bio bay more intimately?

In that case, this tour is the right one for you.

image of a 19-foot boat used for Private Bioluminescence Tour

This tour has a six-passenger maximum. The tour operator will take you to bio bay in a 19-foot boat. You are allowed to swim so you can experience it firsthand.

Tours use a skiff which is a shallow, flat-bottomed open boat with a sharp bow and square stern.

The US Coast Guard regulates all marine vessels, and they have the following regulations:

The maximum weight the boat can carry is 1,400 pounds. The ladder to get in and out of the boat might not hold more than 250 lbs.

For more information about booking this more intimate tour, contact Alelí Tours .

6. La Parguera bio bay tour from San Juan

Do you want to go to the bio bay from San Juan but don’t want to drive 5 hours round trip?

Then a tour from San Juan to La Parguera is suitable for you.

image a group of people swimming in La Parguera Bio Bay

These tours take care of everything. They will pick you up at your hotel and drive you to La Parguera . Once you arrive, you will get appetizers.

You will then board a private boat that will take you to see the floating homes and the mangrove keys at La Parguera.

After sunset, they will take you to the bio bay.

You will get bottles of water and local beers on the boat. On the bioluminescent bay, you will be allowed to swim, and as you agitate the water, it will start to glow.

After you have experienced the bio bay, they will take you back to your hotel in San Juan.
